‘RIDICULOUS' to blame sexism or white supremacy for Hillary's loss – Krauthammer
[Right Scoop] Chuck Krauthammer mocked liberals and the Hillary campaign for blaming "white supremacy" and sexism for Hillary’s loss, saying that it was instead a lack of a coherent message that killed Hillary’s hope.

#3  Blaming sexism or white supremacy for Hillary's loss? More scatology from the left. No, she (along with the DNC) is crooked, doesn't like American's much, is not liked by Americans much, ran a poor campaign, is seriously ill, had a sense of entitlement about the Presidency, and ought to be in prison.

China-Japan-Koreas
‘Nobody in Beijing DICTATES who we talk to!' – Amb Bolton defends Trump call to Taiwan
[Right Scoop] Bolton responded to the news of a phone call between Trump and Taiwanese President Tsai Ing-wen, which caused China to submit a complaint with the US through its foreign ministry.

"Honestly, I think we should shake the relationship up. For the past several years China has made aggressive... belligerent claims in the South China Sea," he said on Fox & Friends.

Beijing views Taiwan as a rebel province of mainland China, and the United States has recognized China’s claim since President Jimmy Carter officially acknowledged the "one China" policy in 1979.

Therefore, Trump’s discussion with Tsai has been seen by some as a breach of protocol, but Bolton disagreed:

"Nobody in Beijing gets to dictate who we talk to. It’s ridiculous to think that the phone call upsets decades of anything."

While he makes a decent argument for doing what Trump did, it seems like a lot of patching up afterward instead of a reasoned policy decision.

Teenager charged over police fire bomb attack: French prosecutor
The unnamed, undescribed miscreant is assumed to be a Moslim colonist until information comes in proving otherwise.
[AlAhram] A 17-year-old boy has been charged and held in connection with an attack on French police by youths who threw molotov cocktails at officers, leaving two with severe burns, prosecutors said Saturday.

The boy, who was tossed in the calaboose
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
on Thursday, has been charged with "complicity in the attempted murder of persons of public authority," said Eric Lallement, the prosecutor from Evry, south of Gay Paree.

The unnamed youth is the first to be charged over the October incident that led to angry wildcat protests by police over mounting attacks on officers. Some 80 coppers and their families protested outside Every town hall last month, demanding "more resources and respect" following the attack.

On October 8 four officers were maimed when a group of around 15 youths from a housing estate in the Gay Paree suburb of Viry-Chatillon swarmed their cars and threw Molotov cocktails at them.

A 28-year-old male officer suffered very serious burns on his hands and body and is still in hospital, while his 39-year-old female partner was badly burned on the hands and face, police said.

Two other officers who were deployed as backup suffered minor injuries.

A second youth aged 15 was also arrested on Thursday suspected of having participated in making the Molotov cocktails.

Police are trying to identify the other participants in the attack using DNA found on objects at the scene as well as analysing video surveillance footage

Obama won't pardon illegal immigrants because that wouldn't stop Trump from deporting them

North Carolina man pleads guilty to plotting U.S. terrorism attacks with a member of Islamic State that would have killed 1,000 people
    From a few days ago.
[DailyMail] Justin Nojan Sullivan, 20, pleaded guilty in federal court in North Carolina on Tuesday after he plotted to carry out a terrorism attack at a concert or club where he believed as many as 1,000 people would die.

Justin Nojan Sullivan, 20, pleaded guilty in federal court in Asheville on Tuesday to one count of attempting to commit an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries.

He planned an attack at a concert, bar or club where he believed as many as 1,000 people would die, according to federal officials.

'Justin Sullivan planned to kill hundreds of innocent people,' said John A. Strong, a special agent in charge of the FBI's office in Charlotte. 'He pledged his support to ISIS and took calculated steps to commit a murderous rampage to prove his allegiance to the terrorist organization.'

Sullivan said in court that he planned shootings in North Carolina and Virginia that would cause mass casualties, according to U.S. Attorney Jill Westmoreland Rose.

He also claimed he had 'frequent and direct communications' with Junaid Hussain - an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
member who asked him to make a video of the attack. Hussain, who was responsible for online recruitment and providing inspiration for attacks in Western countries, began conspiring with Sullivan by June 2015. Hussain was killed in a U.S. dronezap in Syria in August 2015.

But then Sullivan discussed those plans on social media with an undercover FBI employee, whom Sullivan tried to recruit to participate in the attacks, according to authorities.

He asked the undercover FBI employee to build silencers and told him that he planned to carry out his attack in the next few days.

Federal authorities have said they began investigating Sullivan after his father called 911 in April 2015 saying his son was destroying religious items in their home.

    He was locked away
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
at the family's home without incident on June 19, and later told Sherlocks that he planned to carry out an attack in the coming days when his parents were expected to be out of town.

He also had offered to pay the undercover employee for killing his parents, who he believed would interfere with his terrorism plans.

A sentencing hearing hasn't been scheduled, although both sides agree a life sentence is appropriate.

Sullivan also faces state charges in the death of his neighbor, John Bailey Clark, who was killed in December 2014. At the hearing Tuesday, he didn't say he had killed Clark; however, prosecutors reserved the right to prove the charge at the sentencing hearing. Authorities have said Sullivan killed Clark and stole the man's money so he could buy an assault rifle to carry out the attacks

One-stop shopping, Frozen Al -- although Breitbart and our usual foreign sources are useful, too. The alternative is to read every local rag from front to back each day in the hope of catching the news as it happens. We do have the advantage that Rantburgers submit articles from their local papers when something happens locally, but even Rantburgers are not everywhere. ;-) Also, if another venal idiot arises to blackmail bloggers for quoting their owned articles, using foreign sources affords Fred some protection.

Afghan teenager detained in rape, slaying of German student

[Ynet] German authorities say a 17-year-old Afghan who entered the country last year as an unaccompanied minor has been taken into custody on suspicion he raped and killed a 19-year-old university student.

Dieter Inhofer, prosecutor in the southwestern city of Freiburg, said Saturday that the teen asylum-seeker was identified as a suspect based on traffic video from near the crime scene. Inhofer tells the dpa news agency that DNA evidence has tied the boy to the crime scene. He was living in the area with a family.

The student vanished on her way home from a party early on Oct. 16. Her body was found in a river later that day. The suspect hasn't made a statement. Authorities are trying to determine if he and the young woman knew each other.

Maria Ladenburger, the daughter of a high-ranking EU official, was returning from a party in the university city of Freiburg in Germany when she was assaulted on a cycle path.

Senators Durbin and Graham Crafting Bill to Make Obama's Dreamer EO Law
[LI] As Senators Dick Durbin (D-IL) and Lindsey Graham (R[?]-SC) rush to make Obama’s Dreamer executive order (EO) law, cat fights are erupting on Twitter regarding immigration and Trump’s intentions in this regard.
Graham out of the closet again.
In 2010, the DREAM Act failed in the Senate, so Obama picked up his pen and his phone and, by EO, made it happen. Now, Republicans are working again with Democrats to revive the failed bill . . . they hope before Obama leaves office, though this is highly unlikely.

    From the Hill:

Democratic and Republican members of the Senate Judiciary Committee are working on legislation that would limit deportations if President-elect Donald Trump repeals President Obama’s executive orders on illegal immigration.

Senate Democratic Whip Dick Durbin (Ill.) and Sen. Lindsey Graham (R-S.C.), both members of the panel, are crafting a bill to shield children living in the country illegally from being deported if they grew up in the United States and have stayed out of trouble.

The bill is likely to have the support of another Republican on the committee, Sen. Jeff Flake (Ariz.). He was a member of the so-called Gang of Eight that put together the comprehensive immigration reform bill that passed the Senate in 2013.

Trump has vowed to repeal Obama’s executive orders that halted deportations for people who came to the country illegally at a young age, as well as deportations of the parents of citizens and lawful permanent residents.

Uber can now track passengers' locations after they are dropped off even when the app is closed
[Daily Mail] Uber can now track their passengers' locations after they are dropped off and even when their app has been closed.

A new update to Uber's app allows the global taxi service to collect passenger data up to five minutes after a journey has finished.

Previously Uber had only been able to do this when their app was open.

The firm believe that the data will cut down on the frustrating back-and-forth often experienced by customers, as drivers try to ascertain exactly where their passengers are. On its website Uber said: 'Uber collects your location data from the time of trip request through five minutes after the trip ends, including when the app is in the background.

'We do this to improve pickups, drop-offs, customer service, and to enhance safety. Trip Related Location Data is collected during the following times.'

On the app users can choose between two information sharing options labelled 'Always' and 'Never'.

    -Lurid Crime Tales-
Cabinet position for Petraeus; disciplinary actions for Broadwell after affair
[The Hill] While former CIA Director David Petraeus is interviewing for a top job in the Trump administration, the woman he had an affair with is facing possible disciplinary actions from the Army.

The Pentagon decided in February it would not pursue any further punishment for Petraeus, but is now seeking to take actions against Paula Broadwell, an Army Reserves major, according to a defense official.

Petraeus and Broadwell, both married, admitted to an extra-martial affair in 2012. They both have expressed regret, with Petraeus personally apologizing to Senate lawmakers during a hearing last year.

The official did not want to characterize what the pending actions are, and said Broadwell would be given an opportunity to respond or issue a rebuttal before making a final determination on disciplinary measures.

The official cited mishandling classified material, as well as issuing threats, as some of the things she could be punished for.

The disparity in treatment by the military of Petraeus and Broadwell has sparked criticism from some members of Congress.

"I think the two of them should be treated fairly, and there shouldn't be two standards," Sen. Claire McCaskill, who has championed the rights of women in the military, told The Hill.

She said "questions would probably come up during his confirmation" hearing if Trump nominates Petraeus to a cabinet position.

    #3  Besoeker,

I remember reading at the time (but if you blinked, you missed it) that Broadwell's clearances had been pulled and her personnel jacket placed in deep, DEEP cold storage...and it is a disgrace that Petraeus is walking away essentially unscratched.

The old saying about a thousand attaboys and one 'aw, shiat' applies here to Petraeus. Yes, he's smart, and his personal military courage can not be gainsaid. But the fact here is that as a four-star general, he knowingly and with malice aforethought made decisions to risk classified material. I don't care HOW high HER clearance was (as an intel 0-4 it would have been respectable, but nowhere near what an 0-10 theater commander was sharing with her) the facts are these:

    1. She was writing an altogether flattering autobiography of the man (and you know he had to have been hoping it would help a Presidential campaign) and she was having an affair with him.
    2. He let it happen. (Don't care WHO initiated it, his position came with a DUTY not to do such things.)
    3. If he was boinking the help when he was a four-star, he sure as hell was doing it when he was a Major or Light Colonel. You don't just suddenly give in to temptation when you hit 0-10.
    4. "He's been punished enough." The hell he has. Once this nonsense came out, he should have gotten a lifetime ban on anything even resembling a Federal job with access to anything higher classified than 'janitor's closet', followed by a carrot-peeler grade review of everything he touched at the Agency.

It would have been one thing if Mr. Trump had opened a quiet backchannel to Petraeus for advice and counsel - that's what you do when you need need the smarts of someone who's disgraced themselves. But this...oy.

    #4  Concur Mike.

I've seen too many military careers (and marriages) totally destroyed by acts of infidelity, both officer and enlisted. I am quite certain Petraeus has signed off on a number of career ending UCMJ actions originating from such acts. The double standard here is obvious and little more than betrayal.

As far as Broadwell goes, I was unaware of CCF pulling or suspending her access or a 'flag' on her promotion. I have always thought (conspiratorial bastid that I am) that there was more to this story than we've been told. Some guy or any old hag biographer could have been dispatched to write the Petraeus story.

    China-Japan-Koreas
U.S. Warns China It Will Target Firms for Illicit North Korea Business
[Free Beacon] WASHINGTON (Reuters) ‐ The United States has warned China it will blacklist Chinese companies and banks that do illicit business with North Korea if Beijing fails to enforce U.N. sanctions against Pyongyang, according to senior State Department officials.

The tougher U.S. approach reflects growing impatience with China and a view that it has not strictly enforced existing sanctions to help curb Pyongyang’s nuclear program, which a U.S. policy of both sanctions and diplomacy has failed to dent.

U.S. Deputy Secretary of State Antony Blinken gave the message to Chinese officials in meetings in Beijing in October after North Korea conducted its fifth and largest nuclear test, the officials said.

U.S. National Security Adviser Susan Rice and Secretary of State John Kerry stressed the importance of choking off financial flows to Pyongyang during a meeting with Chinese State Councilor Yang Jiechi in New York on Nov. 1.

    Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Former IS Intel Official: Fearing Trump Presidency, Iran To Speed Up Arming Terror Proxies
[Breibart IS] TEL AVIV ‐ Fearing Donald Trump’s impending presidency, Iran is accelerating its vision of regional hegemony by bolstering its efforts to arm its Middle East proxies, a former director-general of Israel’s Ministry of International Affairs and Strategy told the Algemeiner Wednesday.

According to IDF Brig. Gen. (res.) Yosef Kuperwasser, Iran is concerned that a Trump administration will obstruct its operations in Syria. Kuperwasser’s remarks came after Arabic-language media reported an Israeli Air Force strike that targeted Lebanon-based terrorist organization Hezbollah near Damascus Tuesday night.

While Kuperwasser would not directly confirm whether or not Tuesday’s strike actually took place, he said that "based on past such cases, there is good reason to believe it did."

Kuperwasser maintained that a strike at this time would have occurred as the result of intelligence gathered by Israel on specific weapons convoys, the report said. He also noted that the IDF is keeping a close eye on Iran’s proxy Hezbollah, which "has been gaining in strength" while fighting for the Assad regime in Syria.

Regarding Jerusalem’s cooperation with Moscow, Putin will ensure that Hezbollah’s increased power in Syria does not extend to its home territory of Lebanon. Putin’s interest, Kuperwasser said, "is for Hezbollah to be armed for fighting in the Syrian civil war, not for other purposes."

"There is a mutual understanding of each other’s interests. Though Russia and Iran are backing Hezbollah combat rebel forces fighting against the Assad regime, Russia understands that Israel cannot allow weapons from Hezbollah in Syria to be moved to Lebanon, where they will be aimed at the Jewish state," he added.

Hezbollah and the Iranian Revolutionary Guards have assumed critical leadership roles in Aleppo, overseeing Shiite militiamen who are recruited by and trained in Iran.

However, even with Hezbollah’s increased muscle and its attempts to intimidate the Jewish state, including, most recently, a military parade in Homs, Syria to show off its "highly trained" army, the greatest concern for Israel at the moment is not Hezbollah, Kuperwasser said. "It is, rather, Iran’s increasing territorial contiguity -- crossing Iraq, Syria and Lebanon."

Former Shin Bet director Avi Dichter said this month that Iran now commands a force of some 25,000 Shiite militants in Syria.

"History proves that whenever Iranians craft groups like these, such as Lebanese Hezbollah, they don’t give up arms, they don’t stand down and they don’t leave territory that they’ve taken," he said. "They will be in Syria for years and years, and that will have consequences for everyone."

    Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Palestinian Preacher: Muslims Must Seize Nukes And Eliminate Israel
[Breitbart IS] TEL AVIV ‐ Muslims should seize Pakistan’s nuclear weapons and "eliminate the state of the Jews in one or two strikes," a Palestinian cleric declared in a recent sermon delivered at Jerusalem’s Al-Aqsa Mosque.

Sheikh Abd Al-Salam Abu Al-Izz called on Muslims two weeks ago to "rise up" and "take command and control" to "bring Islam everywhere in the world," according to a translation by the Middle East Media Research Institute (MEMRI).

Salam countered prevailing notions in the Arab world that Donald Trump’s election victory would somehow lead America to self-destruct.

"The Muslims’ reaction to Trump’s victory was hopefully he’ll destroy (the U.S.) and sit on its ruins," the imam said. "May he engage in nuclear wars, from which (the Muslims) will emerge intact. This is not how things go."

Instead, he said, the "nation of Islam" should "take matters into its own hands" and "get rid of the governments, kings, sultans, sheikhs and emirs [and] toss them into the garbage bin of history."

    Europe
Austrian Minister: ‘It Would Be Fatal to Believe the Migrant Crisis Is Over'
[Breitbart] Austrian Foreign Minister Sebastian Kurz has said that it would be "fatal" to consider the migrant crisis over. He also criticised German Chancellor Angela Merkel over her migrant policy and dominance in the European Union (EU).
Speaking to OVB Online, Foreign Minister Kurz, a staunch critic of Merkel’s migrant policies and who had claimed that Europe had "lost control" of her borders, stated that much had changed in the last year, exclaiming: "Thank God!"

Affirming that the migrant crisis was "not a purely German phenomenon," he reflected on reaction to his scepticism of the German chancellor’s open-door mass migration policies.

"When I criticised the open borders and insisted that we stop the inflow, I was massively criticised."

"My position was a minority position that was sharply criticised in the media and was not accepted by the majority of the population at the time."

"For many things I said, I was scolded a year ago. Now there is applause."

in the French cities of Strasbourg and Marseille on November 19 and 20, with authorities saying later that the men had been in contact with a commander in Iraq or Syria.

Moroccan officials said the arrested ISIS operative had been linking the group's members stationed on the Syrian-Turkish border with members of the cell in La Belle France, transferring instructions from leaders of ISIS in Syria to the faceless myrmidons in the French territory.

La Belle France has been the main victim of ISIS attacks on the European soil in the recent past. Gay Paree saw the deadliest of all in November 2015, when 130 people were killed in a matter of night across the capital city by ISIS operatives.

ISIS has European nationals of the African origin within its ranks, including many from Morocco. Abdelhamid Abaaoud, a 28-year-old Belgian of Moroccan origin, was the main suspect for orchestrating the attacks in Gay Paree and cities in Belgium. The Moroccan intelligence helped put French Sherlocks on the trail of Abaaoud last year.

Earlier, Yemeni forces and their allies fired a barrage of artillery rounds at al-Mostahdeth camp in Jizan, but no immediate reports of possible casualties and damage were available.

Also on Saturday, Yemeni forces fired several missiles at Jizan’s al-Kars military outpost, but no casualties were reported.

Yemeni army soldiers also pounded a gathering of Saudi-sponsored Yemeni Death Eaters loyal to resigned president Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi in the Nihm district of Yemen’s western-central province of Sana’a.

Similarly, casualties were caused when Yemeni soldiers and Popular Committees fighters launched a number of Katyusha rockets at Sehna Jin Camp in the central Yemeni province of Ma'rib.

If you watch the weather channels keep the sound off so that you don't get the global warming BS in your head. I used to recommend FOX but now not so much. Stick to Rantburg.

Rather, I like the scrolling "on the ground" field reports from people actually there to deliver snark about the new strawman story nbc pulled out of their ass.

They are a disgusting shame and anger me that people even ask me about subjects they cynically deliver to the DumbMasses.

Le Pen victory would be 'body blow' to Europe: Cameron
Britain's former premier said Saturday the election of France's Marine Le Pen would be a "big body blow" for Europe, saying he hoped for the victory of a mainstream party. David Cameron said the recent rise of "anti-system, populist" and "quite extreme political parties" in western Europe did not mark the end of globalisation, but warned of the immediate need to make a "major course correction" to address related economic and cultural challenges.

"If France were to elect Marine Le Pen, that would be obviously a very big body blow for the European project," he said at a Hindustan Times organised conference in New Delhi, hoping for a victory of "a mainstream party that can unite people behind their candidacy".

He said the demand for and benefit of free trade, travel, specialisation, technology, innovation were not going away.

"But we do need to understand very profoundly the things that have happened, that have caused the events you have seen in Europe and the wider world in the last one year," he added.
Such as? Either he didn't enumerate them or the reporter didn't provide them.
Cameron resigned as prime minister in June after he -- a supporter and campaigner for Britain to remain in the European Union -- lost a high-stakes national referendum on the very issue.

He defended the merits of having Britain stay in the bloc.

"I still believe it would have been better for Britain to remain inside the EU," he said in the Indian capital.

"Our neighbours, our partners, our friends and our allies and I wanted us to stay in the room with them when they make decisions that affect us and our continent," Cameron added.
But your people didn't want to stay...

Brilliant -- Howard Dean Drops Out of DNC Race Paving Way for Keith Ellison
[THECONSERVATIVETREEHOUSE] Oh, the good news just keeps on coming. We are one step closer to actually seeing Keith Ellison as the Chairman of the DNC. We should do everything possible to ensure his success in this quest.

Washington (Via CNN) ‐ Howard Dean
Former Dem governor of Vermont or Rhode Island or one of those dinky states. Howard lost his bid to be president by shrieking and screaming and acting like a loon. Then they made him chairman of the Dem national campaign committee, where he continued doing the same things only nobody paid any attention....
has dropped his bid for a second stint chairing the Democratic National Committee, citing "other priorities" and a "possibly divisive race.
...politicians call things divisive when when the other side sez something they don't like. Their own statements are never divisive, they're principled...
"I’m not going to be a candidate for the DNC chairmanship," the former Vermont governor and 2004 presidential candidate said at the start of an Association of State Democratic Chairs forum in Denver. "I think it could possibly be divisive. I have other priorities. I have a grandchild now. But I am fully dedicated to using as much time as I can to support whoever the chairman is."

A leading contender for the spot is Rep. Keith Ellison of Minnesota.

Chechen cleric denies Kadyrov apologized to Saudis over fatwa
[RFE/RL] Chechnya's leading Islamic cleric has formally rejected suggestions that Chechen chief Ramzan Kadyrov was made to visit Saudi Arabia to apologize for a religious edict that was seen as a snub of Salafism. Mufti Salakh-hadzhi Mezhiyev called "untrue and an outright lie" reports that Kadyrov went to Jiddah to offer apologies for the fatwa, adopted at a conference in Grozny three months ago, that designated Salafism as "an aberrant sect."

Several media outlets in both Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates had reported that Kadyrov did indeed present his apologies. Whether the remarks attributed to him constitute a genuine apology is a matter of interpretation, however.

The August conference of Islamic scholars was tied to the 65th birthday of Kadyrov's late father, Akhmed-hadzhi Kadyrov. Its stated purpose was to discuss the abuse of Islamic ideas to propagate "extremism."

Regardless of the motives for Kadyrov's reported apology or the terms in which it was possibly couched, two separate Russian scholars of Islam commentators have already concluded that he has irrevocably sabotaged any chances he may have had to secure for himself recognition in the Arab world as the leader of Russia's Muslims.

UNHCR welcomes delay of Dadaab camp closure
The UN refugee agency (UNHCR) has welcomed Kenya’s decision to delay the closure of the Dadaab refugee camp and called for flexibility on the timeframe for repatriation of Somali refugees there.

Kenya said in May it would close Dadaab, which houses more than 260,000 Somalis, in November, citing security concerns. Repatriation has since been accelerated. Dadaab, the world’s largest refugee camp in northeast Kenya, was set up over 20 years ago to house Somalis fleeing civil conflict.

The UNHCR lauded Kenya’s commitment to voluntary, humane, safe and dignified returns for the Somalis in accordance with international law.

“UNHCR now appeals to the government of Kenya to show flexibility on the timeframe for the different elements of the plan, including on returns to Somalia,” the UNHCR said in a statement received on Thursday. “Rigid timeframes will be difficult to meet. For solutions to be genuinely voluntary people must be properly informed, and able to make their individual decisions free from pressure and in full awareness of the facts.”

The UNHCR said it would continue to work with the Kenyan government in pursuing the most appropriate options for the refugees.

Kenya said Wednesday it would delay the closure of the Dadaab refugee camp by six months, citing the volatile security situation in Somalia and a request from the UNHCR.

Interior minister Joseph Nkaissery said some 262,000 refugees were still in Dadaab while 16,000 had been repatriated in the last six months. He denied reports by some human rights groups and aid agencies that Dadaab refugees were being forced back to Somalia.

The UNHCR has been involved in the repatriation of Dadaab refugees for years. According to the UN agency, a survey launched months ago found that 283,558 refugees were living in Dadaab, 58,000 fewer than in the past.

The UNHCR says it has also commenced the relocation of 14,000 non-Somali refugees in Dadaab to the Kakuma and Kalobeyei settlement in Kenya’s Turkana county.

Some Dadaab refugees will be moved to third countries. “16,000 refugees awaiting resettlement clearances will have these procedures finalized to enable departure from Kenya to third countries,” the UNHCR said.

The UNHCR also called for the international community to “make adequate investments in Somalia in support of its progress towards security and stability.”

Kenya claims Al-Shabaab members hide in Dadaab. Al-Shabaab has carried out a series of attacks in Kenya since Kenyan peacekeeping troops entered Somalia to battle the group in 2011.

Bangkok bomb suspects linked to southern insurgency
[Khaosod] Three men nabbed for plotting bomb attacks in Bangkok were involved in the southern separatist movement, according to senior police officer.

Talmisi Tohtalyon, Mubarih Gana, and Abdullasir Suekachi are accused of plotting bomb attacks in tourist and residential areas of Bangkok, accusations they "half-confessed to, half-denied," said Bangkok police commander Chayapol Chatchaidej.

All three suspects are natives of the southern border provinces. Chayapol said they were linked to the southern insurgency. He said, "Yes, they are. They have a history of staging attacks. They also admitted it to us."

Chayapol echoed deputy police commissioner Srivara Ransibrahmanakul, who said Wednesday the three were involved in previous incidents in the far South, including a 2012 shooting that killed a local teacher and a 2015 bomb attack.

General Srivara said intelligence agencies discovered that the three men were in Bangkok between September and October to plan attacks before returning to Narathiwat province. The military subsequently detained them and turned them over to police Tuesday.

Chayapol said that the Talmisi, Mubarih and Abdullasir confessed to amassing bomb making equipment in several apartments in Bangkok, but denied that they were plotting an attack as claimed by police.

200,000 Indonesian Muslims protest against Christian governor
[YAHOO] More than 200,000 Indonesian Moslems prayed in unison and chanted Koranic verses Friday in the second major demonstration against Jakarta's Christian governor, as conservative groups push for his arrest for allegedly insulting Islam.

People in white Islamic robes and skullcaps packed out a massive park in the capital, with over 20,000 security personnel deployed to prevent a repeat of violence that erupted at the last protest against Basuki Tjahaja Purnama.

Purnama, known by his nickname Ahok, is being prosecuted for blasphemy over election campaign comments he made about the Koran, which have sparked widespread anger in the world's most populous Moslem-majority country.

The case is seen in part as a test of religious tolerance in Indonesia, where a reputation for pluralism has been eroded by a surge in attacks on minorities, but critics say it is also about politics as the governor's foes whip up anger to reduce his support.

The decision to prosecute Purnama, Jakarta's first non-Moslem governor for half a century and a member of the country's tiny ethnic Chinese minority, has not been enough to quell anger and conservative groups are now demanding his arrest.

Protesters waved banners that read "jail Ahok" as they marched en masse through the city's streets in the early hours to converge on the park, which surrounds the National Monument, a tall tower that looms over downtown Jakarta.

"Let's defend our religion," Rizieq Shihab, leader of hardline group the Islamic Defenders' Front (FPI), told the crowd as he delivered a fiery
...a single two-syllable word carrying connotations of both incoherence and viciousness. A fiery delivery implies an audience of rubes and yokels, preferably forming up into a mob...
    sermon.

"Stop all forms of religious blasphemy and put all violators on trial."

President Joko Widodo, an ally of Purnama who has been meeting with Islamic and politicians in recent days to calm tensions, joined the mass prayer, thanking the protesters for being peaceful and urging them to return home.

Jakarta police front man Raden Prabowo Argo Yuwono said more than 200,000 joined Friday's rally, dwarfing the last protest on November 4. He said it had passed off peacefully and protesters were starting to head home.

Change of role for Muslim democrats in post-autocratic era: Ghannouchi of Ennahda
[Libya Herald] The phase of Tunisian political Islam protesting against autocratic regimes is over explained Rashid Ghannouchi, President of Ennahda party of Tunisia speaking today at the Med 2016 Dialogues conference in Rome.

Ghannouchi was talking specifically on the Tunisian experience with post Arab Spring Political Islam ‐ but there were clear messages and lessons to be learnt by neighbouring Libya.

Asked by Libya Herald what could be the best Tunisian lessons that could be learnt by its neighbour Libya he said: ’’consensus and compromise’’. He pointed out that the role of political Islam has to change in the new phase of post-authoritarianism. Political Islam has to transform itself from a movement of protest to a movement of democratic policy-making and government.

Tunisia was now in the post-autocratic era and is no longer in the midst of protesting against government. It was time for democratic Islam or Moslem democrats now, he explained.

He said that only ’’good interpretations’’ of Islam can succeed and added that the term ’’secular’’ was controversial and ambiguous. There is no common definition and it was used differently by different people in different contexts.

Ghannouchi said that modern interpretations of Islam were more rational than ideological and said that Tunis could act as a model. He explained that his party practices a model based on consensus-building, power-sharing and political inclusiveness.

He said that Tunisia learnt the art of consensus-building the hard way in 2013. Nahda had chosen to hand over power to a technocratic government in order to save Tunisia from chaos. Politicians must rule beyond a simple majority and use consensus and compromise.

Ghannouchi said that Ennahda no longer considered itself ’’political Islam’’ but a ’’Moslem democratic’’ party. It is no longer facing dictatorship and it no longer a party of protest. It is now looking for real consensus, jobs, better healthcare, schools, infrastructure, fighting corruption and terrorism.

’’We are a democratic party and strongly believe compatibility of Islam and democracy’’, he stressed. But admitted that it will be a real challenge to make Islam a force for democracy.

The Ennahda leader stressed that ’’Islam has no official front man of God on earth. There is no Church. No official religious authority representing Islam", which he said should not be confused with political authorities making religious decisions.

Therefore, much depends on the interpretation of Islam. ’’We have to fight against false interpretation of Islam for example the interpretation of Jihad’’, he explained. Islam recognized plurality since the beginning. It is very clear he said: there is no compulsion in Islam.

He pointed out that the foundation of Islamic civilization was in fact plurality. There is no place for extremism or terrorism in real Islam. ’’We must condemn extremism and terrorism without excuse’

He felt that Tunisian terrorism was the fruit of decades of dictatorship, however, he felt that through democracy people can be re-educated.

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Al-Hashd al-Shaabi Command in Anbar revealed, that the Islamic State group detained 700 families in Rawa district, in western the province, in order to use them as human shields, while pointed out to the execution of dozens of youths for trying to flee toward the areas held by security forces.

Intelligence Director of al-Somoud brigade, Captain Nazim al-Jaghifi said in a press statement, “ISIS terrorist gangs are detaining 700 families, mostly women and children, in Rawa district, to use them as human shields.”

“The ISIS terrorists are preventing civilians from leaving the areas of Rawa district for three years now, and impelled them to grow their beards and wear special clothes, in addition to preventing cigarettes and burning registration offices,” Jaghifi added. “ISIS executed dozens of youths in the previous period for trying to flee toward the areas held by security forces in Haditha and Rutba,” Jaghifi explained.

    ISIS executes 3 in Raqqa

[ARA News] Raqqa – The Islamic State (ISIS) radical group executed on Friday three young men in Syria’s northeastern Raqqa city on charges of spying for the US-led coalition.

The ISIS-led Hisba Police launched an arrest campaign in the al-Makf district of Raqqa. At least 11 people were arrested and taken into ISIS custody.

The Sharia Court of Raqqa convicted three of them with “treason” and sentenced them to death.

“The three men were executed by firing squad in central Raqqa on Friday evening,” local media activist Abdullah al-Jassim told ARA News.

The victims were identified as Muhammad Nour al-Khalaf, 21, Adel Ismael, 24, and Khalil al-Issa, 22.

Hundreds of people witnessed the execution, eyewitnesses told ARA News.

“ISIS accused them of leaking security information to the international coalition,” al-Jassim reported.

The US-led coalition has recently intensified its airstrikes against ISIS positions in Raqqa–which is deemed the ISIS de facto capital in Syria.

Roughly three weeks ago, the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces launched the Euphrates Wrath Operation, with support from the US-led coalition. The operation’s long-term objective is the isolation and elimination of the Islamic State in Raqqa.

During the first phase of Euphrates Wrath, SDF soldiers captured an area measuring approximately 560 km2, containing dozens of towns, villages and farms. Military sources told ARA News that more than 185 ISIS jihadists have been killed since November 6.

Meanwhile, ISIS has tightened its security measures inside the city of Raqqa. The group has arrested and punished dozens of people on charges of cooperating with the US-led coalition and the SDF.

    Woman Crucified
On November 4, the Islamic State’s militants executed and crucified a woman in Syria’s eastern Deir ez-Zor Governorate, after accusing her of spying for Kurdish forces, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

Asmaa Muhammad, 41, was arrested by the ISIS-led Islamic Police –also known as Diwan al-Hisba– in a village in Deir ez-Zor countryside under the pretext that she has communicated with the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG).

The YPG and other factions of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have been in fight with ISIS for more than two years.

The victim was arrested in the Hawij al-Bumaasa village in eastern Deir ez-Zor. “The Sharia Court accused her of spying for hostile Kurdish forces and ordered her execution,” local media activist Ahmed Ramadan told ARA News.

Asmaa was shot dead and then crucified in a public square in central Deir ez-Zor. Hundreds of people witnessed the brutal execution. “Her body was covered with blood when they brutally crucified her. They banned the people from approaching the body,” an eyewitness told ARA News.

Mosul Civilians Fear Cold, Hunger of Winter Siege

[AsharqAl-Awsat] With No food or fuel reaching distressed Mosul in nearly a week and the onset of rain and cold weather threatens a tough winter for more than a million people still in areas of the city still held by terror group ISIS, residents said on Saturday.

A trader in Mosul, speaking by telephone, said no new food or fuel supplies had reached the city since Sunday.

“We’ve been living under a real state of siege for a week,” said one resident of west Mosul, several kilometers from the frontline neighborhoods on the east bank of the Tigris river.

“Two days ago the electricity generator supplying the neighborhoods stopped working because of lack of fuel. Water is cut and food prices have risen and it’s terribly cold. We fear the days ahead will be much worse.”

Iraqi troops waging a six-week-old offensive against the militants controlling Mosul have advanced into eastern city districts, while other forces have sealed Mosul’s southern and northern approaches and 10 days ago blocked the road west.

But advances have been hampered by waves of counter-attacks from the ultra-hardline Islamists who have controlled the city since mid-2014 and built a network of tunnels in preparation for their defense of north Iraq’s largest city.

The slow progress means the campaign is likely to drag on throughout the winter, and has prompted warnings from aid groups that civilians face a near complete siege in the coming months.

myrmidon commanders in Syria’s divided city of Aleppo have vowed to never leave the city as Russia announces readiness for talks with the US over the terrorists’ withdrawal.

"I asked the factions, they said 'we will not surrender'," said Zakaria Malahifji, the political officer of the The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

-backed Fastaqim group in Aleppo on Saturday.

"The military commanders in Aleppo said 'we will not leave the city. There is no problem with corridors for civilians to leave, but we will not leave the city'," he added.

Earlier in the day, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov said Moscow was ready to enter talks with Washington over the myrmidons’ withdrawal from Aleppo.

Aleppo, Syria’s second largest city, remains split between government forces in the west and foreign-backed Death Eaters in the east, making it a frontline battleground.

    The Grand Turk
Three soldiers killed in clashes with PKK in Hakkari
Three soldiers were killed and six were wounded in an operation against outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) militants in the eastern province of Hakkari early on Dec. 2, Doğan News Agency has reported. Security sources said the casualties came from a clash in the Çukurca district of Hakkari between Turkish security forces and PKK militants in the Mount Güven area, close to Turkey’s border with Iraq.

The clashes began at 06.40 am in the Güven Dağı Base zone after a PKK militant tried to infiltrate into the facility during heavy snow and foggy weather conditions. Howitzers positioned in the area started to fire on the militants, and as militants under the offensive started to retreat, Turkish Air Force jets struck the targets, killing seven militants and heavily wounding nine others.

The nine injured were left at the scene after the attack, as security forces obtained the radio talk of fleeing militants who were instructed to leave the wounded by taking their weapons.

Separately, four militants were “neutralized” after Turkey fired artillery rounds into Hakurk, northern Iraq, from the Şemdinli district of Hakkari.

ARA news sez 30 Turkish soldiers died in the attack
Cizre – Rebel fighters of the Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) launched an offensive on a major Turkish army base in Hakkari Province, in southeastern Turkey, military sources reported on Saturday.

The operation targeted Turkey’s military base in Çelê district in Hakkari, where the Kurdish rebels used mortar shells and heavy machine guns.

At least 34 Turkish soldiers were reportedly killed in the attack.

The PKK leadership said in a statement to ARA News that the offensive came in response to attacks by the Turkish army against Kurdish villages and towns in Hakkari Province.

“Unless there is a political solution to the Kurdish issue in Turkey, the armed conflict will continue and intensify,” Kurdish lawyer and human rights activist Omran Mansour told ARA News.

“Turkey has eliminated all chances for dialogue with the Kurds, especially after arresting Kurdish MPs and members of the HDP [People’s Democratic Party],” he said.

Mansour added that the recent PKK operations have been focused on the Turkish military and security bases. “However, we still support dialogue and peaceful negotiations to stop violations against human rights in the Kurdish region in southeastern Turkey,” he said.

“But the government of Recep Tayyip Erdogan insists to use force against Kurdish villages and towns, which will lead to a further intensification of violence across the country,” the Kurdish activist added.

    Afghanistan
Govt Criticized For 'Silence' Over Dostum-Eshchi Issue
[Tolo News] A number of analysts on Saturday criticized what they called the silence of government over the issue between the First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
and former Jawzjan governor Ahmad Eshchi.

Critics argued that the silence by government reveals the overshadowing of the law and the culture of bullying and waywardness in the country.
Given General Dostum's known capabilities, it may just represent prudence...
"It will definitely help to prevent such acts if government takes action against those who violate the law," said Sayed Jawad Sajjadi, a legal affairs analyst.

"Gun and gun owners rule still continues in parts of Afghanistan and in some parts they overrun security agencies," said Saleh Mohammad Registani, a political analyst.

    Meanwhile,
...back at the saloon, Butch got the bill for the damage caused by the fist fight, the mirror broken in the shootout, and drinks for everyone......
Eshchi's family said the former governor will be transferred to Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
at the first opportunity and then he would be set free.

"We have contacted the central government. They said he [Eshchi] will be released today [Saturday]. Let's see what happens," said Babur Eshchi, son of Eshchi.

Eshchi was allegedly beaten up and taken into custody by Dostum's guards last Friday in Jawzjan. During the course of the week, it emerged he was being held in NDS custody.

Ahrar al-Sham and Fateh al-Sham attack Kurd area in Aleppo
[ARA News] Aleppo – Syrian Islamist groups on Saturday bombed the Kurdish district of Sheikh Maqsoud in Aleppo city with mortar fire, local sources reported.

Militants from the Islamic Movement of Ahrar al-Sham and Jabhat Fateh al-Sham have reportedly hit the Kurdish-populated district with dozens of mortar shells and locally-made ‘hell missiles’. Jabhat Fateh al-Sham is an offshoot of al-Qaeda.

“Islamist groups of Ahrar al-Sham and Fateh al-Sham launched the attack from their bases in al-Shaar neighborhood in eastern Aleppo,” human rights activist Mehvan Mirkhan told ARA News in Aleppo. “They hit Sheikh Maqsoud with dozens of mortars and ‘hell missiles’.”

Saturday’s bombardment targeted residential buildings and a security centre for the Kurdish People’s Proection Units (YPG) in Sheikh Maqsoud.

At least five civilians and two YPG members were reported dead in the attack. Also, over ten others were injured and immediately transferred to a local makeshift hospital in the district.

“Some of the injured are in critical condition,” Doctor Mihemed Hamke, the director of a hospital in Sheikh Maqsoud District, told ARA News.

Dr Hamke added that local rescue teams continued to search for victims under the rubble.

Sheikh Maqsoud has been under a partial siege by Syrian Islamists for over three years. Violence has recently intensified in the district as the YPG have tried to establish a buffer zone.

“Armed groups surrounding the Sheikh Maqsoud District of Aleppo city have repeatedly carried out indiscriminate attacks that have struck civilian homes, streets, markets and mosques,” Amnesty International said in an earlier report about developments in the Kurdish district.

Amnesty International added the militants surrounding Sheikh Maqsoud have been “killing and injuring civilians and displaying a shameful disregard for human life.”

    Anbar Antics: 13+ die

13 ISIS Turbans turn into a fine, red mist in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Anbar Operations Command announced on Friday, that 13 members of the Islamic State extremist group (ISIS) were killed in an air strike carried out by the US-led international coalition on the group’s headquarters in central Qaim district, west of Anbar.

Anbar Operations Command also pointed out to the destruction of a number of vehicles and weapons belonging to the group.

The Command said in a press statement, “Intelligence information allowed the international coalition air force to conduct an air strike targeting a gathering of ISIS members in Qaim district, killing 13 Arab and foreign members.”

“Four vehicles and a truck carrying large quantities of weapons and rockets were also destroyed by the air strike that targeted the ISIS members in Qaim,” the statement added.

“Security forces, backed by the international coalition air force, are conducting raids and ground operations to weaken the abilities of the ISIS members in the western areas,” the statement explained.

Security forces managed to liberate majority of cities of Anbar, including Ramadi, Heet, Fallujah, Baghdadi and Rutba.

Iraqi forces begin mopping up ISIS diehards in Fallujah

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Fallujah District Administration announced, that security forces started to remove the remnants of the Islamic State from the last two areas in the city.

Mayor of Fallujah, Eissa al-Sayer, said in a press statement, “Troops from the army’s 14th brigade and East of Anbar Operations Command and police forces started to remove and cleanse the remnants left by the Islamic State group (ISIS), as well as securing the 1st and 2nd sectors of al-Shuhadaa area, in southern Fallujah.”

“Removing the remnants of the terrorist group will make Fallujah completely safe, secured and ready for the return of displaced persons in the coming few days,” Sayer added.

The cities of Anbar, including Ramadi, Fallujah, Heet, Kabisa and Rutba were cleansed from the ISIS group early in 2016, and thousands of displaced families started to return back to their areas.

    Bangladesh
10 Hindu houses torched in Dinajpur
Bangladesh isn't exactly Islam's bloody border, and yet...
[Dhaka Tribune] At least 10 houses of the Hindu community at Harijan Palli in Bochaganj upazila of Dinajpur district were burned to ashes by miscreants led allegedly by a local BNP leader’s son in the early hours of Saturday.

Locals caught Jewel, one of the attackers, while he was setting fire to the houses. Later he was handed over to the police.

They claimed that Jewel, son of Bochaganj ward-level BNP leader Ayub Ali, is the criminal mastermind behind the incident. As a sequel to the conflict with some sweepers of the Harijan Palli, he along with others set fire to the houses.

A case was filed with Bochaganj cop shoppe against four people, including Jewel, in this connection, said OC Habibul Haq Prodhan.

    Meanwhile,
...back at the game, the Babe was wondering why the baseball kept getting bigger and bigger. Finally it hit him...
Bochaganj upazila administration provided 30kg of rice, blankets, saree and lungi to each of the affected families, who have lost everything and have been living under the open sky.

UNO Shilabrat Karmakar assured the victims of providing cash and corrugated tin sheets for the house reconstruction.

    Afghanistan
MPs Discuss 'Extremism' Issue In Universities, Mosques
[Tolo News] The Wolesi Jirga (Lower House of Parliament) on Saturday summoned a number of bigwigs from different ministries to discuss the recently-raised issue of alleged increase in holy warrior ideologies being taught at a number of academic centers and mosques in the country.

The politicians however expressed conflicting ideas about the caliphate issue which is included in the 'Culture of Islam' subject, taught at universities in the country.

"The voice of ISIS and Taliban is raised from many mosques nowadays," said MP Jafar Mahdawi.

"We don't have any problem with the Culture of Islam subject; the problem is the teachers of this subject," said Rubaba Parwani, another MP.

"The subject of Islam's Political System is taught at many universities. Part of the subject mentions that caliphate and emirate is the only political system in Islam; not presidency or chancellery. Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
had emirates and Baghdadi had a caliphate," said Hafiz Mansour, an MP.

"We are guilty because of not establishing a caliphate. Caliphate is the order of God. We cannot deny it. No doubt, democracy is against caliphate," said Abdul Satar Khawasi, another MP.

    Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy had come up with a new idea, one that didn't involve kerosene...
the summoned officials said they accept the existence of holy warrior ideologies at universities and mosques.

"There is a problem among our lecturers. I attended a Friday sermon at a mosque in Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
. I found that it was funny to have such a sermon at a mosque in the capital city," said the hajj and religious affairs minister Faiz Mohammad Osmani.

"The Islamic Culture subject's content, the way of its lectures and its curriculum are very clear. However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
a number of teachers are burning up such issues," said Barai Seddiq, the deputy minister of higher education.

This comes after MP Abdul Hafiz Mansour last week said the spread of extremism at a number of universities and mosques is challenging Afghanistan's security.

Puntland army launch anti-ISIL offensive in Qandala
Forces from the northeastern semi-autonomous state of Puntland have launched an offensive on Saturday to drive pro-Islamic State militants from the strategic port town of Qandala in Bari region.

Sa’eed Waberi Mohamed, the finance secretary of Qandala administration has confirmed heavy clashes between Puntland troops and ISIL fighters in the outskirts of the town, which lies 75Km east of Bosaso. He said Puntland forces are advancing on the town from different directions as they reached Karin, small rural area located just 30Km away from the seaside city of Qandal, where the ISIL fighters are based.

Reports from the area indicate that NATO warships patrolling the coast of Somalia are involved in the battle and launching seaborne attacks against the ISIL militants in Qandala which fell to ISIL in October.

    Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria army retakes over half of rebel east Aleppo
Syria's army advanced overnight deeper into east Aleppo where it now controls more than half of the former rebel stronghold after a fierce assault that has sparked an international outcry. Overnight, government troops and allied forces seized the district of Tariq al-Bab where heavy fighting had raged a day earlier, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Dec. 3.

The government has now recaptured around 60 percent of eastern parts of the city that the rebels overran in mid-2012, according to the Britain-based monitor.

The advance opens the road leading from the government-controlled west of the city to the international airport just outside Aleppo to the east, which is also held by the regime. And it has prompted more civilians to flee, heading either further south into remaining rebel-held districts or crossing into government-held territory or areas under Kurdish control.

Assad's forces have made swift gains in east Aleppo, and its loss would be the biggest blow yet to Syria's opposition in the more than five-year-old war.

The government has trumpeted its advances, and state television on Dec. 3 showed buses full of residents going from west Aleppo back to their homes in neighborhoods retaken by the army.

From al-Manar: 5 Civilians die in Aleppo
Five civilians were killed and 29 others were injured in terrorists attacks with rocket shells on residential neighborhoods of Halab al-Jadeda, al-Hamadniya, al-Iza’a, al-Neel Street, the University Campus, al-Ashrafiya and Saif al-Dawla in Aleppo city on Saturday.

A person was injured when terrorists from “Jaish al-Fateh” terror organization opened fire on al-Foaa town in Idleb’s northern countryside.

Local sources told SANA that terrorists located in the neighboring town of Bennesh targeted homes in al-Foaa with heavy machine guns fire, injuring one person and causing material damage to some houses.

Al-Foua’a has been besieged by terrorist organizations for over two years, and terrorists continue to target it with shells and gunfire, claiming the lives of many civilians and injuring many others.

New rebel alliance breaks Aleppo siege
    So they say
[Al Arabiya] Rebels in Aleppo have agreed to form a new military alliance headed by “Abu AbdulRahman Nour,” to protect the city they control from the brutal assaults by the regime and its allies.

The new alliance would be called the Aleppo Army and would be led by the commander of the Jabha Shamiya rebel faction, one of the major groups fighting in northern Syria under the Free Syrian Army.

A commander at the Jabha Shamiya told Reuters that the new coalition will help in the centralization of the decision-taking process.

The situation in Aleppo is escalating, with the regime forces seizing more than 40% of Eastern Aleppo, 15 days after the eruption of the massive assault to restore the second biggest city in Syria.

The UN had said that Russia is working on setting up four humanitarian corridors to evacuate the wounded victims and provide medical and food supplies for the trapped civilians in East of Aleppo.

The scene in Aleppo is tragic; dead bodies all around the neighborhoods that are controlled by the opposition after the assaults led by the regime.

The majority have fled the city and those who chose to stay there, are living without the bare necessities.

International reporters and journalists are all describing the situation in Aleppo as hopeless amid the constant attacks from the regime forces.

This Week in Guns, December 4th, 2016

    By Chris Covert
    Rantburg.com

Continuing somewhat tangentally last week's discussion on silencers/suppressors, Weapons Man posted an avid defense of bolt action rifles, listing element by element the benefits of owning/using them. The discussions were useful as well, and they yielded a couple of videos which illustrated my points about silencers.

The first video shows how much noise reduction can occur using subsonic ammunition, depending on the platform. The noise from the shooting is reduced, and comparatively you can hear how much, which isn't much.

The second video is a demo of a CZ bolt action with a combined silencer and subsonic ammunition. The noise reduction is profound. However, a target will still be able to hear the shot even from a long distance away.

You also should read the comments about just how much the notion of a bolt action has changed: from a rotating mechanical set up. One of the bolt actions mentioned is similar to a Luger like lever action on the right side of the rifle that is actuated with just one finger.

In North Carolina the quietest gun of all was turned in to a voluntary gun turnover event: a BB gun.

Finally, if you want to gauge just how much of a bullet firearms owners have dodged in the presidential election, see what California is about to do with their own agents: gun shops. I wouldn't breathe much of a sigh of relief, however. The national reprieve is temporary, unless Congress passes laws intended to expand firearms ownership.

    Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Prices for pistol ammunition were mostly steady. Prices for rifle ammunition were mixed.

Prices for used pistols were mixed. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

    -Lurid Crime Tales-
Bowe Bergdahl seeks pardon from President Barack Obama on court martial
[UPI] Lawyers for Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl have applied for a pardon from President Barack Obama
They get bitter, they cling to guns or religion or antipathy to people who aren't like them...
, seeking to avoid court martial proceedings over desertion charges.

    The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
reported Bergdahl's lawyers filed a clemency application with the White House, the Pentagon and the Justice Department, formally requesting Obama consider granting Bergdahl a pre-emptive pardon on the military criminal charges of desertion and misbehavior before the enemy.

If convicted, Bergdahl faces a potential life sentence. His court martial is scheduled to begin May 15.

Bergdahl was a U.S. Army lieutenant
Just sigh, say something about journalistic incompetence, and move on...
stationed at a remote outpost in Afghanistan in 2009 when he left his post and walked away without permission, setting off a massive military rescue operation that included thousands of soldiers conducting hundreds of raids across the country, often under dangerous circumstances.

    At the time,
    After the fact...
Bergdahl said his plan was to leave the remote outpost and travel by foot to a larger Army base dozens of miles away, where he intended to report problems to a superior officer.
Rather than make a phone call, send an email, or write a letter...
Instead, Bergdahl was captured by Taliban fighters and held prisoner for five years under brutal conditions.
    ... playing volleyball with them...
Am I allowed to put quotes around "captured", or does that violate the Rantburg style guidelines?
Army doctors have said Bergdahl was suffering from a psychiatric disorder when he left his post.
    "That's right, sergeant! He's a nut!"
    "I'm a colonel."
    "Whatever."

The B.O. regime negotiated Bergdahl's release in 2014, apparently unaware of the looming controversy over the circumstances surrounding his capture. At first, Obama stood with Bergdahl's parents and praised the man's military service.
"If I had a soldier, he'd look like Bowe Bergdahl!"
"You've got the entire 3rd Infantry. None of them looks like him."
    "Whatever."

But as fellow soldiers came forward with conflicting accounts and accusations of desertion, the incident quickly unraveled into a political firestorm.
"Major, how do you spell 'dirtbag?'"
    "D-i-r-t-b-a-g. And I'm a sergeant."

Bergdahl's fate is a big issue while no one is paying attention to the Taliban.

Maute group on the rise in Mindanao and beyond
[Business Mirror] Philippine president Rodrigo Duterte will not likely meet his forecast of ending terrorism in Mindanao by this month, given the results of the operations against the Abu Sayyaf, which he had entrusted to Armed Forces Chief of Staff Ricardo Visaya with an accompanying explicit order of finishing the insurgent group "to the last man."

Visaya is retiring on December 8 but, not only the campaign against the Abu Sayyaf in Sulu and Basilan, which is being undertaken by 18 battalions of soldiers and six companies of militiamen, is still to reach its full operational tempo.

The problem has even widened with a new front in the anti-terror campaign, due to the Lanao del Sur-based Maute Group. The previously unheralded Maute Group has turned into a full-blown Moro jihadi organization that is in the league of the Abu Sayyaf in less than five months - even bolder, in fact.

The Maute group, which the military initially considered to be aligned with Jemaah Islamiyah, but confined in Lanao del Sur, has steadily built its reputation as a terrorist group that the Philippine government will have to contend in the years to come.

The group has built its memberships from the rosters of young radicalized fighters from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front, who shared the same stronghold in Lanao del Sur.

While the Abu Sayyaf has mostly carried out its bombings in Mindanao, the Maute Group ushered its first publicly known bombing right in Duterte's hometown of Davao City in September, killing 14 people and wounding at least 70 others.

On Monday a bomb was recovered near the U.S. Embassy in Manila, which was attributed to the Maute Group, because of the similarity of the bomb with the one used in Davao City.

The Maute was among the three groups, after the Abu Sayyaf and the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters, that have pledged their allegiance to Daesh.

Although long overdue, previous military and civilian leaders had refrained from striking the holy warriors’ hive in the restive agency on the pretext of what they perceived as negative internal and external implications. The then army chief put aside these apprehensions and made a decision for which he will be remembered as a man of action, notwithstanding some persisting concerns about the long-term impact and sustainability of the operation.

Two senior officers die as LNA continues Ganfouda assault
[Libya Herald] The Libyan National Army lost four dead and 21 maimed in heavy fighting yesterday in Ganfouda as they claimed to taken three large blocks in the district, though they admitted that they had withdrawn from one area for " tactical reasons".

One of the dead was a senior Saiqa Special Forces
...Libya's elite army unit, insofar as they have one, formed from a mixture of paratroopers and commandos. The group emerged from a militia with the same name in 2010. It now numbers a few thousand and reports to the Ministry of Defence. It deployed in Benghazi in an attempt to control the carnage. As a result, it has been attacked and several of its officers murdered. The force is popular in Benghazi for its stance against Ansar al-Sharia group...
commander Mustafa Noah al-Abdali. Another was army engineers’ front man Abdullah al-Tuwati, who was killed by a land mine.

    Heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual name-calling or slapsy...
continued this morning as soldiers attacked the surrounded enclave from all sides, including more naval fire from offshore.

A boom-mobile launched toward troops was destroyed yesterday before it reached its target. The biggest advances appear to have been made in the Busnaib area where one recaptured location was a large wedding hall.

Artillery fire and air strikes have continued today. LNA sources are insisting that the Benghazi Revolutionaries’ Shoura Council fighters and their terrorist allies from IS and Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...

Green Party candidate to hold rally outside Trump Tower
[Iran Press TV] Green Party candidate Jill Stein is set to hold a rally along with her supporters in front of the Trump Tower in New York on Monday.

Stein, who has initiated the process of vote recounts in the states of Wisconsin, Michigan and Pennsylvania following the 2016 presidential election, made the announcement on Saturday.

    GOP nominee Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
won presidency on November 8 by flipping the three traditionally blue states, triggering calls for a recount pursued not by Democratic candidate Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, sometimes described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as a crook...
    but by Stein.

Trump has vowed to block the efforts by having his lawyer file lawsuits against the move.

"We won’t stand down as Donald Trump and his allies seek to frivolously obstruct the legal processes set up to ensure we have a voting system we can trust and that all votes have been counted," Stein said in a statement.

On her website, Stein is asking Americans for donations to pay for the cost of recount in the states.

Taliban militants hang engineering student near Kabul
[Iran Press TV] Talibs have hanged an engineering student in public near the Afghan capital, Kabul

Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
, after accusing him of having a role in the death of a senior Taliban official.

Faizul Rehman, a fourth-year student at Kabul Polytechnic University, was hanged in front of a crowd of locals in the village of Sewaka in Chak district of Maidan Wardak province, about 60 kilometers west of the capital, on Friday.

According to Abdul Rahman Manga, a front man for the governor of the province, the holy warriors claimed that Rehman had been involved in the liquidation of a local Taliban intelligence official identified as Mullah Mirwais.

"Local elders tried to mediate to release him, but they failed," Manga further said on Saturday, adding that the ill-fated student was traveling home from Kabul to spend his holiday in the district on Thursday when he was caught by the hard boys.

Afghanistan's Tolo television news network also reported that the holy warriors had further accused Rehman of spying.

The Afghan Interior Ministry confirmed the execution and said they had initiated an investigation into the case "to arrest and punish the perpetrators of this criminal act."

    Afghanistan
    Afghans, Taliban klash in Kandahar
The civilians in southern Kandahar province suffered heavy casualties during a 4-day clash that ended on Thursday night.

According to the local government officials, the clashes took place in Nish district between the Afghan forces and the Taliban insurgents.

Provincial police spokesman Zia Durani said the Taliban insurgents were forced to leave the district after around 100 additional forces were deployed to the area.

He said at least 29 Taliban insurgents were also killed during the clashes along with 4 policemen.

The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.

This comes as the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan (UNAMA) said late in October that the mission has documented 8,397 conflict-related civilian casualties (2,562 deaths and 5,835 injured) between 1 January and 30 September, representing a one per cent decrease compared to the same period in 2015. Ground engagements remained the leading cause of civiliancasualties, followed by suicide and complex attacks, and improvised explosive devices (IEDs).

“Increased fighting in densely populated areas makes it imperative for parties to take immediate steps to ensure all feasible precautions are being taken to spare civilians from harm,” said Tadamichi Yamamoto, the Secretary-General’s Special Representative for Afghanistan.

UNAMA further added that the anti-Government Elements caused 61 per cent of civilian casualties – 1,569 civilian deaths and 3,574 injured (5,143 total civilian casualties).

Gen. Wesley Clark's son heading astroturf protest group
[Oathkeepers] The leaders of this effort are Michael A. Wood Jr. and Wesley Clark Jr. On the surface, the effort appears to be a legitimate attempt on the part of Mr. Wood and Mr. Clark to raise awareness of the Standing Rock tribe protest. Their “Op Order” suggests that they intend to provide much needed relief to the current protesters at the site and to use military formations in order to secure the site perimeter. The language and adjectives used in their literature identifies organizations like the Sheriff’s Dept. as an “opposing force”. I’m sure the Sheriff will not be amused with their stance. They state their “mission” as follows:

“Our mission is to prevent progress on the Dakota Access Pipeline and draw national attention to the human rights warriors of the Sioux tribes regarding the United States lack of treaty enforcement.”

Curious as to the background and capabilities of Michael A. Wood Jr. and Wesley Clark Jr., I reviewed their background and some of the other initiatives they have supported. Mr. Wood was a member of the USMC and a Baltimore City Police Officer. Mr. Wood made the background research effort easy by hosting his own website that touts his achievements. He started seeking media attention in conjunction with the death of Freddie Gray in Baltimore. Skid,

Beat me to it. Clark Sr. damn near started WWIII under Clinton, and nobody ever said a word about it. 'Nut' is entirely too polite a term.

Iran sanctions re-imposition symbol of American ‘black and white’ thinking
[Iran Press TV] The US Congress re-imposition of sanctions against Iran on pretexts such as human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
and support for terrorism shows the American "black and white" mode of thinking, given the generally accepted fact that Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
is the leading state sponsor of terrorism, says a former US Senate foreign policy analyst.

    James George Jatras
told Press TV on Saturday that the Senate’s recent vote to extend the Iran Sanctions Act (ISA) for another 10 years reflects the "absurd" attitude lingering in the US politics to consider Iran a "state sponsor of terrorism."

"It is really incredible that so much of the American political class likes to repeat this mantra: Iran a chief state sponsor of terrorism, and that is absolutely absurd," he said. "Everybody who knows anything about terrorism knows that Saudi Arabia by far is the world’s leading state sponsor of terrorism."

Iran says the ISA extension, passed unanimously on Thursday, is a violation of the nuclear deal between Tehran and the world powers, vowing to retaliate against the move.

Another death-row convict acquitted after 11 years in jail
[DAWN] ISLAMABAD: The Supreme Court stepped in on Friday to correct the mistakes committed by the trial court and the high court, and acquitted a convict after 11 years of imprisonment. A district and sessions judge in Mandi Bahauddin had sentenced Mohammad Anar to death on a murder charge in 2005, but the Lahore High Court later converted the capital punishment into life imprisonment.

A three-judge SC bench headed by Justice Asif Saeed Khosa ordered immediate release of Mohammad Anar for want of solid prosecution and owing to contradictory evidence against him.
Are you beginning to wonder what these decisions are going for?

Yemeni forces prepare attack on Houthis near Dhubab
ADEN: Yemeni government forces have sent reinforcements to the Red Sea coast to drive Iran-backed rebels away from a key global shipping route, military officials said on Saturday.

Dhubab, just 30 km from the strategic and busy Bab Al-Mandab strait, links the Red Sea and the Indian Ocean.

Two US warships and an Emirati vessel in the Red Sea came under Houthi missile attacks in September and October.

The government now aims to “push back the rebels away from the western coast and Bab Al-Mandab, and to secure maritime navigation in the southern part of the Red Sea,” a military official said.
Pro-government forces have been sent to the area, backed by tanks, other armored vehicles and Katyusha rocket launchers, military officials said.

They said the offensive aimed to wrest back control of the coast from Dhubab as far north as Al-Khukha 90 km farther north.

Troops were also sent by the Saudi-led Arab coalition.

Meanwhile, China’s Foreign Ministry has expressed concern after the Houthis and their allies formed a new government in a blow to UN-backed efforts to end 20 months of war in the country.

In a statement late on Friday, China’s Foreign Ministry said it supported Yemen’s legal government. “We do not approve of any side in Yemen taking any unilateral actions that complicate the situation, and believe this is not beneficial to a political resolution of the Yemen issue.”

China hopes relevant parties in Yemen continue dialogue to resolve the differences and reach an equitable settlement all sides can accept on the basis of UN resolutions and GCC initiatives, it added.
