Israel’s bombing of Sudan missile site a 'dry run' for Iran attack
The attack occurred in the early morning of October 24, when eight Israeli F-15I jets – four of them carrying two one-ton bombs, escorted by four fighters – struck a gigantic Yamrouk missile site. The evidence is that this strike is a general rehearsal before the Israeli attack on Iranian nuclear facilities.

According to western defense sources, the 2,400-mile return flight took the Israelis four hours, with the jets flying south along the Red Sea. The planes entered the Sudanese air space from the east to avoid Egypt’s missile defenses.

The anti-Iranian operation kicked off two years ago when Mossad agents murdered a Palestinian businessman and a HAMAS highflyer, Mahmoud Al-Mabhouh, in a Dubai hotel suit, retrieving a suitcase with a military agreement between Iran and Sudan, wherein Khartoum offered Tehran its military sites to make weapons.

The Yamrouk facility produced Shahab ballistic missiles, which were then to be delivered to HAMAS rebels in the Gaza strip and other Middle Eastern regions.

Even iff Hamas + Hezbollah only transferred them to another third-party Group or main Govt. [Iran, Syria] they may still ultimately desire to have their own.

The Future Children Project
Shakes head. Whoever made this video are shameless.
Lyrics:
Imagine an America
Where strip mines are fun and free
Where gays can be fixed
And sick people just die
And oil fills the sea

We don't have to pay for freeways!
Our schools are good enough
Give us endless wars
On foreign shores
And lots of Chinese stuff

We're the children of the future
American through and through
But something happened to our country
And we're kinda blaming you

We haven't killed all the polar bears
But it's not for lack of trying
Big Bird is sacked
The Earth is cracked
And the atmosphere is frying

Obama Says He Is 'ultimately' Responsible For Benghazi Security
President Obama on Saturday vowed to hold his administration "accountable" for September's attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya, saying he took ultimate responsibility for any security lapses.

"What my attitude on this is is if we find out there was a big breakdown and somebody didn't do their job, they'll be held accountable," said Obama in an interview with MSNBC's Mika Brzezinski and Joe Scarborough, according to a report on that network's website.

"Ultimately as Commander-in-Chief I am responsible and I don't shy away from that responsibility," Obama added.

The full interview, conducted after a rally in Nashua, N.H., is slated to air on Monday.
As he says about Romney, "He lies."

#8  Does anyone else find it odd that Ogabe distances himself from himself, speaking about himself almost in the third person? As if he requires a full investigation to discover his own state of mind and the actions he personally did or did not take. He makes the words "I am responsible" come out of his mouth, but only to pinpoint the "somebody" who screwed up. He speaks as if he is an external observer, just determined to go after the culprit, premised on the assumption that it couldn't possibly have been the guy at the top. Like a six-year-old making excuses and trying to evade punishment for breaking a vase, even in the face of evidence that no one else could have done it.

It will be interesting to see who he ultimately blames - especially if he loses the election - because he'll never accept responsibility.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Weather Or Not, 37th Marine Corps Marathon Is Ready To Roll
WASHINGTON – There’s a good chance participants in Sunday’s Marine Corps Marathon could be running with the wind – or against it – while getting drenched by Hurricane Sandy come race time. But event organizers seem unfazed by a forecast that is calling for an 80-percent chance of rain on race day.

Weather is not an issue for Marines, Race Director Rick Nealis joked Friday during a briefing on the annual Marine Corps-sponsored event. “Come on, the Marine Corps is amphibious. We go to sea with the Navy.” Marines love the rain, Nealis assured the crowd at the National Press Building in Washington, D.C. “We call it liquid sunshine.”

Weather considerations aside, event organizers are pleased with the level of involvement in this year’s marathon and other events slated for the race weekend.

Marc Goldman, a marketing manager for the Marine Corps Marathon, noted that 30,000 running slots sold out in just 2 hours and 41 minutes when registration for the event opened in March.

“These people really wanted to be here,” Goldman said of the race participants. “They come from every state and 54 countries.”

------------------------------
Retired Marine Corps Col. Al Richmond, who is among a handful of people who have run in every Marine Corps Marathon, plans to run his 37th race on Sunday. At 73, Richmond said he has two goals in mind: “Finish the race and live.”

------------------------------
Special attractions at this year’s race:

Rob Riggle, comedian, actor and Marine Corps Reserve lieutenant colonel, will serve as the grand marshal to start the race.

National Geographic Channel's "Rocket City Redneck," Dr. Travis Taylor, will run in an experimental suit designed to give service members full-body protection;

British Maj. Iain Church will attempt a Guinness World Record for running the fastest marathon while wearing a 75-pound protective bomb disposal suit;

Single blade runner and Army veteran Lt. Cameron Kerr will run in the 10K race. Kerr, selected at last year’s marathon event to embark on a polar expedition to Antarctica, lost his left leg while serving in Afghanistan.

The Bordoni family who will join six Marines from the 1st Battalion, 6th Marines to run in honor of Cpl. Christopher Bordoni, who was just 21 years old when he was killed by a suicide bomb attack while serving in Afghanistan

Lauren Lee, a 2012 contestant from "The Biggest Loser," is set to run her first marathon.

Economy
A Geyser of Entitlements, Swamping the Too-Young to Vote
RTWT. My highlights -
Beginning two decades after the death of Franklin Roosevelt, who would find today's government unrecognizable, government became a geyser of entitlements. In 2010, government at all levels transferred more than $2.2 trillion in money, goods and services to recipients -- $7,200 per individual, almost $29,000 per family of four.
But the Pubs have been complicit, too, George.
Why, then, should we expect Romney to reverse Republican complicity? Because by embracing Paul Ryan, Romney embraced Ryan's emphasis on the entitlement state's moral as well as financial costs.

One reason work now is neither a duty nor a necessity is the gaming -- defrauding, really -- of disability entitlements. In 1960, an average of 455,000 workers were receiving disability payments; in 2011, 8.6 million were.

For every 100 industrial workers in December 2010, there were 73 "workers" receiving disability payments. Nov. 6 is a late and perhaps last chance to begin stopping the scandal of plundering our descendants' wealth to finance the demands of today's entitlement mentality.

-Election 2012
Dems Give Up on House, Look to 2014 and Crash of TEA Party
President Obama remains at least an even bet to win reelection. Democrats are favored to hold on to the Senate -- an outcome few prognosticators envisioned at the beginning of the year. And yet, with a little more than a week to go, the party holds almost no chance of winning back the House.
This on the front page of the WaPo, instead of Benghazigate, one presumes.
Analysts cite several factors why the Democrats haven't been able to take advantage. First was a redistricting process that made some Republicans virtually impervious to a challenge and re-election more difficult for about 10 Democrats. A few Democratic incumbents have stumbled in their first competitive races in years. And Republicans have leveraged their majority into a fund-raising operation that has out-muscled the Democrats.
A majority? The Trunks? First time I've seen that suggested!
That means that regardless of who wins the White House, the Republican caucus will remain a critical player in the coming showdowns over tax and spending cuts. Such a result will have defied the chorus of prognosticators who saw so many of these inexperienced freshmen as beneficiaries of blind political luck -- swept up in the 2010 wave of sentiment against Obama and presumably poised to be swept back to sea when the tide went out this November.
To dream, the impossible dream...
Democrats have put a few high profile tea-party lawmakers on the defensive. Rep. Joe Walsh (R-Ill.), whose confrontational style made him a YouTube sensation and a regular on Fox News, is running behind in his suburban Chicago district.

In Florida, Rep. Allen West (R), a former Army lieutenant colonel, moved north of his previous Palm Beach-based district but still faces stiff competition, even as he declines to tone down his rhetoric.
I have split my contribution so far between Mitt, the Tea Party, and Col. West.
"It's about two different ideologies going forward. It's the opportunity society against the dependency society. It's the constitutional republic against a socialist egalitarian nanny state," the conservative icon, one of just two black Republicans in Congress, said in an interview in St. Lucie.

Beyond the freshmen, Republican Reps. Michele Bachmann (Minn.) and Steve King (Iowa) are fighting for their political lives. Bachmann's Quixotic presidential campaign left her open to charges of ignoring her district. King is facing Christie Vilsack, the wife of Agriculture Secretary Tom Vilsack, a still-popular former governor. She is also focusing on local issues rather than King's national conservative platform.

Democrats believe that such high-profile victories could send a signal that hyper-partisanship is not the route to reelection, giving hope for more bipartisan work in 2013.
Maybe if we get rid of the hyper-partisan occupant of the White House the boot...

#5  Democrats are favored to hold on to the Senate -- an outcome few prognosticators envisioned at the beginning of the year.

Really? Has the memory hole been topped off?
About that Tea Party -

“If you know the enemy and know yourself, you need not fear the result of a hundred battles. If you know yourself but not the enemy, for every victory gained you will also suffer a defeat. If you know neither the enemy nor yourself,
you will succumb in every battle”

#6  The Tea Party is NOT going away. For starters, is is not the Tea PARTY, but a true grass roots amalgamation of hundreds of local Tea Parties, with no national command. They are much more like the original Committees of Correspondence and other local revolutionary groups of the 1770's than anything since. They will continue to work for local candidates and issues, to meet and discuss local and national issues, to educate and organize. If (when?) the 'system' collapses under its own weight, they will be the only thing left between anarchy and dictatorship. Join one.

Nigeria suicide bomb attack on church kills at least four
At least four people have been killed and several others were wounded in an early morning explosion at St. Rita Catholic Church in the Malaila area of northern Nigeria’s Kaduna State during Sunday mass.

A Red cross senior official who spoke on condition of anonymity confirmed that four people have, so far, been confirmed dead. He said, "Three people, including the suicide bomber, died at the explosion site while one other person was confirmed dead in one of the hospitals where the victims were rushed to. Several people including the Reverend Fathers of the church were seriously injured and parts of the church were seriously damaged."

The official casualty figures might increase as rescue officials have been shuttling between the explosion site and the healthcare facilities were the victims are being treated.

“A number of casualties have been evacuated to hospitals in the state by our officials,” said the national spokesperson of the National Emergency Management Agency (NEMA) Yushau Shuaib. He said the Sunday morning blast occurred when a suicide bomber rammed his vehicle into the church gate.

Romney campaign in Virginia collecting storm relief donations
Romney campaign offices across Virginia are collecting emergency supplies in preparation for Hurricane Sandy.

The offices are accepting supplies that will be distributed to storm relief centers in Virginia. Requested donations include:
  • Bottled water

  • Non-perishable food items such as beef jerky, granola bars and peanut butter
The Romney campaign says it postponed all Sunday campaign events in Virginia as a cautionary move to ensure emergency personnel could focus on other storm-related issues.

The Obama campaign also postponed events on Sunday. The campaign is monitoring the storm to determine whether to cancel a rally with Obama and former President Bill Clinton in Prince William County on Monday.

WTOP is waiting to hear back from the Obama campaign about accepting storm relief supplies.

Here is a list of Romney campaign offices in Virginia where the public can donate supplies.

Science
Telescope Survey Reveals Universe’s Dark Secrets
Scientists have released the final version of the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope Legacy Survey (CFHTLS), data gathered over six years which probes deep recesses of the Universe, including galaxies as far as nine billion light-years away.

This treasure trove of information will allow scientists to better study dark matter; energy; new, developing and evolving galaxies; and any solar system bodies beyond the orbit of Neptune, in a region called the Kuiper Belt.

The unique and powerful multi-color collection of astronomical images and data put together by the international team, was gathered from the Canada-France-Hawaii Telescope (CFHT) located atop the summit of Hawaii’s Mauna Kea volcano.

The project is led by French and Canadian astronomers who imaged and mapped an extremely large volume of the Universe using a ground-based, rather than space telescope, such as the Hubble.

A wave of deadly attacks has shattered the peace in Iraq, where Muslims are marking the second day of the Eid al-Adha holiday.

Officials say at least 15 people were killed in a series of explosions and shootings on Saturday, many of them Shi'ite pilgrims marking the holiday.

The violence includes a bombing north of Baghdad that killed at least five Shi'ite pilgrims who were in a minibus that was carrying them to a mosque.

Investigators say another explosion at a popular open-air market near the capital killed at least five people, including several children, while a series of attacks elsewhere in Iraq left at least five others dead.

Suspected Coup Leader Arrested in Guinea Bissau
Officials with the transitional government in Guinea Bissau say the suspected leader of last week's attempted coup has been arrested.

Captain Pansao Ntchama and at least two other suspects were arrested Saturday on an island just off the coast of the West African nation.

Government troops repelled the pre-dawn attack on an air force base last Sunday. Seven people were killed.

Authorities accuse Portugal, the former colonial ruler of Guinea Bissau, of being behind the the attack. They say Portugal was seeking to restore former Prime Minister Carlos Gomes Junior to power. He was toppled in a coup in April between the first and second rounds of a presidential election.

Guinea Bissau was been wracked by coups and unrest since winning independence from Portugal in 1974.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Miramar fighter jets deployed in secret to Mideast
Amid mounting concern over Iran's nuclear program and violence elsewhere in the region, U.S. Central Command quietly dispatched a Marine fighter jet squadron from San Diego to an undisclosed country in the Middle East, U-T San Diego has learned.

The deployment follows threats by the U.S. and Israel of military strikes if needed to prevent Iran from developing a nuclear weapon.

At the same time, the conflict in Syria is threatening to drag Lebanon, Turkey and Jordan into war, Iraq is beset by renewed violence, and terrorist groups hoping to capitalize on political upheaval in the region covet Syria's chemical weapons and Libyan arms.

Against this tense geopolitical backdrop, aviation spotters tracked a dozen jets from Marine Fighter Attack Squadron (VMFA) 314, an F/A-18 Hornet squadron based at Marine Corps Air Station Miramar, en route in late September through Europe.

The heavily armed jets -- capable of firing 2,000-pound laser-guided bombs, cluster munitions, air-to-air missiles and a six-barrel 20 mm gun -- are used for a variety of missions, including ground attack, escort, enemy air defense suppression, reconnaissance and close air support of ground forces.

U.S. Central Command and the Marine command in the region declined to say which country the squadron deployed to or to comment in detail on its mission, citing political and security sensitivities of the host nation and its neighbors.

Given the take-no-risk attitude on display, I'm thinking it's more a matter of providing protection insurance in case of a 'spillover' from Syria on a neighboring country where it (and its neighbors) suffer from "political and security sensitivities" about having a Marine air squadron on its soil.

However, given the information that the Brits have declined use of their bases in the Med, it's quite possible that some "kinetic action", i.e., a repeat of Libya, is being considered.

Europe
'Everyone lied to me'
Hitler told senior Nazis that "everyone has lied to me, everyone has deceived me" just eight days before he killed himself in his bunker, according to newly disclosed documents.

Guy Liddell, the former deputy director general MI5, includes in his diaries a Joint Intelligence Committee paper detailing Hitler's final days.

During a conference on April 22nd, 1945, Hitler gave a speech to his assembled generals and Heinrich Himmler, his minister of the interior.

The report states: "Hitler came in at 8.30 a completely broken man. Only a few army officers were with him. Himmler urged Hitler to leave Berlin.

"Suddenly, Hitler began to make one of his characteristic speeches. 'Everyone has lied to me, everyone has deceived me, non[sic] one has told me the truth.

'The armed forces have lied to me and now the SS has left me in the lurch. The German people has not fought heroically. It deserves to perish.

"It is not I who have lost the war, but the German people'."

The report continues: "Then his face turned purple, his twitching left arm became quiet, and he could not put his left foot on the ground properly.

"Throughout that night he suffered from a nervous collapse and kept on raving that he would meet his end in Berlin."

I've always wondered how far the Nazis would have gotten if Hitler let his generals run the war.

However, he's the one who set up the system with perverse incentives. He wasn't one to listen to his generals, and he'd fire them if they insisted on dealing with reality. Even "Hurrying Heinz" Guderian was not immune.

Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer: My sources tell me Obama was in the room watching Benghazi attack
Lt. Col. Tony Shaffer said tonight that his sources tell him that Obama was one of the people in the room watching the Benghazi attack go down and both he and Col. David Hunt agree it would have taken an order by the president to intervene. Further, Col. Hunt said that we were only 20 min away by jet and a couple of hours away by AC-130 gunships and special forces, and the decision not to intervene had to be political.

#3  I believe Shaffer is a reserve officer. He's made a personal, life-long campaign of taking on military related cover-ups and issues like Benghazi. If he were an active component officer, his career would have been toast long ago.

There is no doubt in my mind that those pred feeds of Benghazi, and anything else available was piped into the White House situation room.

#4  ...IF this is true - I do not see how this CAN'T be an impeachable offense. On the other hand - and I have to speak my mind here - a great deal of what I'm reading about this doesn't quite make sense for me. If there was a Spectre ready to go, fragged jets twenty minutes out, Predators on site, and people on the ground lighting up targets, then why were they all there in the first place? That's a level of preparedness and force that we were completely unwilling to display during the revolution there, but now that everything is hunky-dory on the ground we're ready to punch holes in Libya?

Looked at with all that in mind, this whole thing gets far far worse. You think things are bad now? If President Obama is hiding some kind of op there, it will come out...and he will be as crippled for a second term as Nixon was, except President Obama will not find the decency to resign. And while he spends four years in the bunker, the world will find a way to take advantage of it.

And frankly, a President Romney will do nothing to investigate it.

#5  Mike:

Do you remember the Maersk Alabama incident in April 2009 when the skipper of the USS Halyburton ordered snipers on his ship take out terrorists and did so with headshots? While the Commanding Officer of that ship was given authorization to initiate necessary measures as he deemed appropriate, the angst in the administration and the liberal media was Palpable.

Following this incident, I suspect a review of the Rules of Engagement (ROE) was soon undertaken. There is a vast difference between "authorizing assistance" and deligating authorization for local commanders to initiate or return hostile fire.

When slain heroes Doherty and Woods requested authorization to assist trapped mission personnel, it was denied. They were allegedly ordered to "Stand Down". My guess is, whomever they contacted knew that had already engaged the terrorist with smallarms fire and did NOT want any further hostile contact. It would only follow that this order would have reflected National Command and White House directives.

In fact the non-order was hold on until we get authorization to proceed. The issue is that Woods and Doherty were former SEALs. HOWEVER, Congress could easily pass a resolution to waive the rules in their case. I plan to write my Congressional representatives to urge them to pass just such a resolution. I urge you to do so as well.

#26  Speaking of reading, I just read this at PowerLine:

Tom Lipscomb writes:
lighting up that laser gave away the Seals’ position the same way using tracer ammo does at night.

Then:

I have an alternate explanation. Our guys were getting pounded by deadly accurate mortar fire, and while they knew there weren’t any aircraft coming, the terrorists didn’t, but the terrorists did know if any were around that laser target indication was a death sentence.

So our team risked using the laser target indicator to try to force the mortar team to MOVE…. causing them a delay of up to an hour needed to break down the mortar, reseat the base plate somewhere they didn’t get hit with the laser and re-lay the mortar and fire a few test rounds…. which might have bought our guys some time to get some help. Remember, the attack stopped a little over an hour later at dawn. They might have made it.

It was worth trying.

If they want me to change my mind, they can tell me what really happened.

By the way, what does this episode tell us about how the "National Command Authority" functions? If in seven hours they can't figure out what to do about a firefight in Libya, what are they going to do if a Chinese missile lands in Tokyo? A Suggestion
A gentle suggestion for Rantburg readers:

If, this fine Sunday morning, you find that your local / regional big newspaper has not a single story about Benghazi in the news section of either the print or digital edition --

-- send the executive editor or producer a polite email asking why not.

Be polite. Point out to him/her that you are a subscriber. Note that you've been following the story from other sources, and remind him/her of the latest news.

Ask how you're supposed to be informed if they aren't informing you.

I've done this for my own metro newspaper and am waiting to hear from them. If you get a response from yours, post here at the Burg. I'd love to see it.

Oh, and my home metro newspaper of course endorsed Champ.

#1  Excellent.

I know the Editor, he will remember me. He once asked if he could ride with me on Patrol car around Ponce and Blvd.
Its an interesting neighborhood. But the Editor doesn't live there. He's got a nice house out on Lake Hartwell.

The owner of Majic Mart hired two police officers to stakeout (off duty like directing traffic outside a Baptist Church on Sunday ) inside a Majmt at the intersection on Ponce at the top of the hill after repeated robberies killed a Korean mgr. They set up a concealed Partition and sat there with shot guns. The robberies were too repetitive. The Editor wanted to talk to someone about why the Police Officers didn't arrest the next two black dudes with guns, but just emptied their shotguns into them when they pointed their weapons at the clerk. Blew the two guys totally away right back and through the Majic Mart front glass window. Parking lot full of blood and glass. It was legal. But it was obvious that there was a "message " being sent while being "legal". The Editor wanted to talk to someone to "explain " it to him. I told him it was Legal. Nothing a broom and a hose couldn't take care of, and it was not a good idea to get hysterical about the business. Besides it was good for business.

I think Maynard Jackson was mayor back then. Its been a while.
Maynard was a big fat guy who wore too much Cologne the only time I ever met him in the elevator. Made a good living arranging loans after the election.
MARTA loves him. We needed that rapid rail.

#3  To the WaPo Ombudsman -

Sir:

I thought I might see something on the front page this morning about the unraveling story about the September 11th attack in Benghazi, Libya. Other sources tell me there was a gunship overhead, waiting for the order to fire. General Petraeus says no one in his department (CIA) denied assistance, and the Weekly Standard suggests the buck stops with the President.

How can you inform us of the news if you ignore major stories, which might be considered unfavorable to your endorsed candidate?

Respectfully, {insert name here]

#4  The Cincinnati Enquirer carried a quarter page Ay Pee article on page 6 of the front section in today's paper -- an investigation on the ground in Benghazi which contradicted the administration's key claims in the subject, although the video was mentioned in passing. Arabia
Saudi king Urges U.N. Action against Religious Insults
[An Nahar] King of the Arabians, Sheikh of the Burning Sands Abdullah
... Fifth out of 37 sons of King Abdulaziz to ascend to the throne. He is, after his half-brothers Bandar and Musa'id, the third eldest of the living sons of Abdul Aziz ibn Saud. Abdullah's mother is from the Rashid clan, longtime rivals of the Saud. He has 6 sons and 15 daughters and about $20 billion. His youngest son is just seven years old...
on Saturday demanded a U.N. resolution condemning insults on monotheistic religions after a low-budget film produced in the U.S. sparked deadly protests last month.

"I demand a U.N. resolution that condemns any country or group that insults religions and prophets," he said during a meeting at his palace with religious figures and heads of hajj delegations in the Mina valley where pilgrims were performing final rituals of hajj.
That's nice, dear. Tea?
"It is our duty and that of every Mohammedan to protect Islam and defend the prophets."
Perhaps milk or sugar with that?
A low-budget film produced in the U.S., Innocence of Mohammedans, triggered a wave of deadly anti-American violence last month across the Mohammedan world targeting U.S. symbols ranging from embassies and schools to fast food chains.
Some of whom won't bother to return or rebuild. Oh well.
Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in their national face...
had threatened to block YouTube in the kingdom if Google
...contributed $814,540 to the 2008 Obama campaign...
did not respond to a request to deny access to the video footage of the film. YouTube then extended its restrictions on the video to Saudi Arabia.

The king also called on Saturday for the "unity of the Islamic nation (and) rejecting division to face the nation's enemies" as he urged for dialogue among Mohammedans.
Good luck with that. Really. Y'all have been working on it for some 1300 years, so we can hope that you're closer to the end than the beginning.
"Dialogue strengthens moderation and ends reasons of conflict and extremism," he said.
Sometimes, yes.
"The inter confessional dialogue center which we had announced in Mecca does not necessarily mean reaching agreements on the matters of belief, but it aims at reaching solutions to divisions and implementing co-existance among sects," he added.
Like your Shiites on the eastern 30 kilometers of the country where all the oil wells are?
The Saudi monarch proposed in August setting up a center for dialogue between Mohammedan confessions in Riyadh.

U.S. Criticizes EU over 'Failure' to Label Hizbullah a Terrorist Organization
[An Nahar] The chief counter terrorism adviser to U.S. President Barack Obama
The Cambridge police acted stupidly...
, John Brennan, criticized on Saturday the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
over its failure to label Hizbullah a terrorist organization, which is undermining international counter terrorism efforts.

European resistance “makes it harder to defend our countries and protect our citizens,” Brennan said in a speech to the Institute of Institutional and European Affairs in Dublin.

He said that Hizbullah, in addition to its alliance with terrorist activities carried out by Iran, “is training snuffies in Yemen and Syria.”

Washington already classifies Hizbullah a foreign "terrorist organization" and it is under U.S. sanctions, but in August the B.O. regime added Hizbullah to a list of organizations under sanctions as a penalty for supporting Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad's

Wahidi stepped up his warnings of worsening security on Saturday and is now calling for the Afghan cops to be better armed to retaliate to the attacks.

"We have a complete security force, but we don't have the improved weapons to react back," he told TOLOnews, adding that the shellings pose a major threat for the province.

"We have control in the districts and there is security to some extent – schools are open – but insecurity is increasing because of the shelling attacks from outside, and still the foreign security forces are not cooperating with us to solve it," he said.

Wahidi urged those countries which have signed the strategic long term deals with Afghanistan to take action and protect the provinces or the Afghan people will lose their trust in such agreements.

Sufi suckered the Pak govt into imposing Shariah on the Swat Valley and then stepped aside whilst Fazlullah and his Talibs imposed a reign of terror on the populace like they hadn't seen before, at least not for a thousand years or so. For some reason the Pak intel services were never able to locate his transmitter, much bomb it. After ruling the place like a conquered province for a year or so, Fazlullahs Talibs began gobbling up more territory as they pushed toward Islamabad, at which point as a matter of self-preservation the Mighty Pak Army threw them out and chased them into Afghanistan...

Pakistain Foreign Minister Hina Rabbani Khan last weekend asked for US help to get Mullah Fazlullah extradited back to Pakistain for his involvement in the shooting as well as directing numerous attacks against the Pak military.

Islamabad claimed to have shared its intelligence dossier on the Mullah with Kabul and Isaf, saying that he is located in the Kamadesh and Chapa Dara districts in the border provinces of Nuristan and Kunar.

Panicking cow kills Paleostinian in Muslim feast
[News.Yahoo] A panicking cow killed a Palestinian man who was trying to slaughter the beast on Saturday during the Muslim celebration of Eid al-Adha, a Gaza health official said.

Muslims around the world slaughter sheep, cows and goats during the four-day holiday that began Friday to commemorate the sacrifice by their Prophet Ibrahim — known to Christians and Jews as Abraham.

But accidents are common as people frequently buy animals to slaughter at home instead of relying on professional butchers. The festive atmosphere surrounding the site of the slaughtering also tends to make the animals fidgety.

In addition to the death, Gaza heath official Ashraf al-Kidra said that 150 other people were hospitalized in the Gaza Strip with knife wounds or other injuries caused by animals trying to break away.

There were also two similar incidents in Pakistan on Saturday.

'West turns blind eye to Myanmar killings'
[Iran Press TV] It is very, very clear from the report you just showed that the government of Burma is not interested in the well-being of these particular Mohammedans. Mohammedans have been living in Burma for centuries. There is historical precedents to this violence. In fact, Mohammedans have been persecuted in Burma for almost five centuries. This is happening from the days of the Mongols when the Mongols were governing India. Some of the Mongols princes who had to leave India to take refuge from their political rivals, they took refuge in this territory known today as Myanmar or Burma.

And even at that time a lot of the persecution was taking place, today is happening systematically. Mohammedans are being wiped out systematically just like what happened in Bosnia and what happened in other places.

It appears that the Western media and the Western governments have turned a blind eye to the plight of the Mohammedans in Burma. It was clearly seen that the mainstream media machines in the West failed to address this issue satisfactorily in the month of June when all this violence started and the language which is being used in this case is very, very well calculated.

For example, one of the terms you pick up in Western media or the news channels is that there are festivities as if there are two gangs fighting each other. But when you look at the Mohammedans they have no weapons. They are simply victims of violence from the other side and this violence in some cases is government funded and government supported.

The government has a policy with regards to Mohammedans in Myanmar. Government has made it very clear that these people are not welcome, they do not belong to Burma, they are not Burmese and they are illegal citizens, hence they should be wiped out.

I mean this is what the implication is, if the government is failing to protect these people and at the same time issuing statements stating that these people are illegal citizens or undocumented Democrats to our country then in other words the government is actually endorsing what those thugs and mass murderers are doing to poor Mohammedans in this region.

Mohammedans are not fighting. I do not see the Mohammedans have any means to fight back. I do not see where the weapons are coming from. There are no weapons with these people. On the other hand, we have a systemic attempt to wipe these people out with the support of the army, the police and the media and even the Buddhist religious clergy is also inflating a lot of this violence and hatred against Mohammedans.

So what needs to be done is that the US government and all the other Western governments including the UN, they need to put this hypocritical garb aside and they need to come out clear and say enough is enough, now is the time to act. Empty statements, making simple statements or we condemn this violence, the government has to do more, this is not going to help anything. They need to take some solid action in this regard and ensure that the Mohammedans of Burma are protected, not being violated and destroyed and you know a genocide is taking place as we speak in Burma.

So I hope that the UN takes some serious action in this regard. It is amazing that recently a girl was shot in Pakistain, Malala, and the Western media picked up the story and made a big deal out of it. One girl, because that story suited the imperial agenda of the Western governments.

Here we have an entire community being wiped out, a genocide, a holocaust is taking place and people are still making simple statements. I do not know what is happening. We are living in a very funny world. I hope that this world becomes a better place governed by people who are able to govern it with justice and peace.

#2  What a load of horse droppings.

Burma has been over 90% Buddhist for hundreds of years. Whats happening is a now familiar pattern. Muslims (Bangladeshis) emigrate to new country ...try to overpower the locals by sheer numbers then demand special privileges. When the locals resist they are labeled racist and anti-Muslim. Over and over the same dance is played out until we wake up and realize they intend to rule the world in the name of Allah, by force if necessary. That's whats really going on in Burma.

Fifth Column
Who Is Fethullah Gülen?
Controversial Muslim preacher, feared Turkish intriguer--and "inspirer" of the largest charter school network in America

by Claire Berlinski
Mr. Fethullah Gülen has shown up on Rantburg's pages from time to time, both with regard to the slow motion Islamist coup occurring in NATO ally Turkey and interesting connections in the U.S. (Click on his name above, and also here to see articles linked to both spellings of his name.) Herewith a long and thorough article in the City Journal tradition about the gentleman. Whether or not you agree with the writer's conclusions, it is good to be aware of what is going on quietly beyond our notice.
[City Journal] With the American economy in shambles, Europe imploding, and the Middle East in chaos, convincing Americans that they should pay attention to a Turkish preacher named Fethullah Gülen is an exceedingly hard sell. Many Americans have never heard of him, and if they have, he sounds like the least of their worries. According to his website, he is an "authoritative mainstream Turkish Muslim scholar, thinker, author, poet, opinion leader and educational activist who supports interfaith and intercultural dialogue, science, democracy and spirituality and opposes violence and turning religion into a political ideology." The website adds that "by some estimates, several hundred educational organizations such as K--12 schools, universities, and language schools have been established around the world inspired by Fethullah Gülen." The site notes, too, that Gülen was "the first Muslim scholar to publicly condemn the attacks of 9/11." It also celebrates his modesty.

Yet there is a bit more to the story. Gülen is a powerful business figure in Turkey and--to put it mildly--a controversial one. He is also an increasingly influential businessman globally. There are somewhere between 3 million and 6 million Gülen followers--or, to use the term they prefer, people who are "inspired" by him. Sources vary widely in their estimates of the worth of the institutions "inspired" by Gülen, which exist in every populated continent, but those based on American court records have ranged from $20 billion to $50 billion. Most interesting, from the American point of view, is that Gülen lives in Pennsylvania, in the Poconos. He is, among other things, a major player in the world of American charter schools--though he claims to have no power over them; they're just greatly inspired, he says.

Even if it were only for these reasons, you might want to know more about Gülen, especially because the few commentators who do write about him generally mischaracterize him, whether they call him a "radical Islamist" or a "liberal Muslim." The truth is much more complicated--to the extent that anyone understands it.

Afghanistan
Mullah Omar Asks Followers to Shun Peace Process
[Tolo News] The leader of the Taliban, Mullah Mohammad Omar, called for his followers to shun the Afghan grinding of the peace processor in his message on the occasion of the Islamic holy days of Eid al-Adha.

Omar said in the message that until the foreign forces leave Afghanistan and the Taliban takeover the government, there will be no peace or prosperity in the country. He labelled all the peace and reconciliation efforts as nonsense and dismissed any kind of negotiation with the Karzai government calling it a "stooge" or puppet government.

However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
the Afghan security officials responded that the fight against the Taliban-led insurgency will continue and described Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
's statement as propaganda.

"The Afghan forces are able to fight against the cut-thoats. Such statements are only propaganda," Afghan National Directorate of Security deputy front man Shafiqullah Tahiri told TOLOnews on Thursday.

Omar also called for an infiltration of the Afghan National Security Forces in order to target the foreign soldiers – a statement described by the Afghan Ministry of Interior as a sign of the Taliban's weakness.

Al Gore's Current TV putting itself up for sale
[Cain TV] Founded in 2005 by Al Gore, Current TV quickly made a name for itself as a go-to source for environmental incoherence, Democrat lunacy, and far-left diatribes. If providing an outlet for liberal kooks was the goal, it succeeded admirably. However,
man does not live by words alone, despite the fact that sometimes he has to eat them...
if it was trying to attract viewers, well, it's had some difficulty. Now, it's up for sale.

CEO Joel Hyatt recently told the New York Post that “Current has been approached many times by media companies interested in acquiring our company. This year alone, we have had three inquiries. As a consequence, we thought it might be useful to engage expertise to help us evaluate our strategic options.”

That's big-time TV exec speak that roughly translates as "We're getting ready to dump this turkey."

The network began its life by focusing on young, high school and college age, liberals. Predictably, its early crusade against global warming failed to attract eyeballs, so it began to reinvent itself as a standard, left-wing, talking head channel - packed with a host of zany pundits that even MSNBC had rejected.

Chief among these was Keith Olbermann who, after being fired from MSNBC due to his horrible personality, took his show "Countdown" to Current in 2011. There, he experienced the same kind of ego-driven controversies that have plagued him at every network in his career. The acquisition of Countdown was supposed to save the struggling net but, a few months after he started, Olbermann started to implode. He began insulting his bosses, famously referring to the station as "amateur hour," and was fired seven months ago.

Arabia
Saudi Mufti Slams Suicide Attacks in Hajj Sermon
[Tolo News] One of the highest-ranking Islamic scholars Mufti-e-Azam Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in their national face...
said in his Hajj address that suicide kabooms are prohibited in Islam.

Sheikh Abdul Aziz bin Sheikh emphasised in his sermon to some two million Moslems performing the day-of-Arafat obligations on Mount Arafat, a hill to the east of Mecca, that anyone who attempts or carries out a suicide attack will not be forgiven by God.

Saying that there was no link between Islam and terrorism, Mufti-e-Azam stressed Islam was a religion of peace, prosperity and brotherhood.

Islam teaches patience and tolerance and dismisses all kinds of violence in society, he said in the hajj sermon, adding that Moslems are obligated to do no harm to others on the basis of their caste, creed or religion.
He said this in Saudi Arabia? Goodness.
He urged the pilgrims and all Moslems to come together as a single economic force and focus on improving science and technology to help overcome conflict and resolve the problems faced in the socio-economic arena of the Moslem world.

The Sheikh said that the Islamic system of governance was better than a fake democracy and that political problems can be solved through dialogue.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Soundtrack to History: 1878 Edison Audio Unveiled
[An Nahar] It's scratchy, lasts only 78 seconds and features the world's first recorded blooper.

The modern masses can now listen to what experts say is the oldest playable recording of an American voice and the first-ever capturing of a musical performance, thanks to digital advances that allowed the sound to be transferred from flimsy tinfoil to computer.

The recording was originally made on a Thomas Edison-invented phonograph in St. Louis in 1878.

At a time when music lovers can carry thousands of digital songs on a player the size of a pack of gum, Edison's tinfoil playback seems prehistoric. But that dinosaur opens a key window into the development of recorded sound.

"In the history of recorded sound that's still playable, this is about as far back as we can go," said John Schneiter, a trustee at the Museum of Innovation and Science, where it will be played Thursday night in the city where Edison helped found the General Electric
...contributed $529,855 to the 2008 Obama campaign...
Co.

The recording opens with a 23-second cornet solo of an unidentified song, followed by a man's voice reciting "Mary Had a Little Lamb" and "Old Mother Hubbard." The man laughs at two spots during the recording, including at the end, when he recites the wrong words in the second nursery rhyme.

"Look at me; I don't know the song," he says.

When the recording is played using modern technology during a presentation Thursday at a nearby theater, it likely will be the first time it has been played at a public event since it was created during an Edison phonograph demonstration held June 22, 1878, in St. Louis, museum officials said.

The recording was made on a sheet of tinfoil, 5 inches (12.5 centimeters) wide by 15 inches (37.5 centimeters) long, placed on the cylinder of the phonograph Edison invented in 1877 and began selling the following year.

A hand crank turned the cylinder under a stylus that would move up and down over the foil, recording the sound waves created by the operator's voice. The stylus would eventually tear the foil after just a few playbacks, and the person demonstrating the technology would typically tear up the tinfoil and hand the pieces out as souvenirs, according to museum curator Chris Hunter.

Popping noises heard on this recording are likely from scars left from where the foil was folded up for more than a century.

"Realistically, once you played it a couple of times, the stylus would tear through it and destroy it," he said.

Only a handful of the tinfoil recording sheets are known to known to survive, and of those, only two are playable: the Schenectady museum's and an 1880 recording owned by The Henry Ford museum in Michigan.

Hunter said he was able to determine just this week that the man's voice on the museum's 1878 tinfoil recording is believed to be that of Thomas Mason, a St. Louis newspaper political writer who also went by the pen name I.X. Peck.

Edison company records show that one of his newly invented tinfoil phonographs, serial No. 8, was sold to Mason for $95.50 in April 1878, and a search of old newspapers revealed a listing for a public phonograph program being offered by Peck on June 22, 1878, in St. Louis, the curator said.

A woman's voice says the words "Old Mother Hubbard," but her identity remains a mystery, he said. Three weeks after making the recording, Mason died of sunstroke, Hunter said.

A Connecticut woman donated the tinfoil to the Schenectady museum in 1978 for an exhibit on the 100th anniversary of the founding of the Edison company that later merged with another to form GE. The woman's father had been an antiques dealer in the Midwest and counted the item among his favorites, Hunter said.

In July, Hunter brought the Edison tinfoil recording to Caliphornia's Berkeley Lab, where researchers such as Carl Haber have had success in recent years restoring some of the earliest audio recordings.

Haber's projects include recovering a snippet of a folk song recorded a capella in 1860 on paper by Edouard-Leon Scott de Martinville, a French printer credited with inventing the earliest known sound recording device.

Haber and his team used optical scanning technology to replicate the action of the phonograph's stylus, reading the grooves in the foil and creating a 3D image, which was then analyzed by a computer program that recovered the original recorded sound.

The achievement restores a vital link in the evolution of recorded sound, Haber said. The artifact represents Edison's first step in his efforts to record sound and have the capability to play it back, even if it was just once or twice, he said.

"It really completes a technology story," Haber said. "He was on the right track from the get-go to record and play it back."

Bangladesh
Rohingyas again attempting intrusion
[Bangla Daily Star] In the backdrop of fresh ethnic violence in Myanmar’s western state of Rakhine, Rohingyas have been trying anew to intrude into Bangladesh, reports BBC Bangla Service.

Quoting local sources, the BBC Bangla Service reported on Friday that nearly 3,000 Rohingya refugees boarding on around 50 boats have been waiting on sea to cross the bordering Naff river from Myanmar.

Local administrator said they ordered the law enforcers to beef up vigilance and resist intrusion.

Meanwhile,
...back at the the conspirators' cleverly concealed hideout the long-awaited message arrived. They quickly got to work with their decoder rings...
Border Guard Bangladesh (BGB) sources said they had been pushed back 52 Rohingya refugees during the last two days.

This is the second time in 2012 that a sectarian violence broke out in the Rakhine state of Myanmar, forcing the Rohingyas to flee the country.

At least 64 people were killed this week, officials said, in the first serious outburst of violence since June, when a state of emergency was declared in Rakhine.

The ethnic violence had broken out in the same state of Myanmar for the first time in June this year.

Shafique Mia, chairman of Teknaf upazila, said he has news that several boats with on board have been waiting on the sea.

“We have news that 50 to 60 boats are floating on the sea. If each boat carries 50 people, then there are 3,000 Rohingyas on those boats,” he said.

Lt Col Zahid Hasan, a BGB official of Cox’s Bazar, said they also have news that boats carrying Rohingyas were waiting on sea to intrude into Bangladesh.

He said the fishermen informed them that the Rohingyas were fleeing their home on boats as the violence-prone areas are island.

Mohammad Ruhul Amin, district administrator of Cox’s Bazar, said they had a meeting with officials concerned in the awake of the situation and decided to resist any kind of intrusion on the frontier.

The Bangladesh government earlier had decided not to allow any refugee from Myanmar and directed the administration and law enforcement agencies to beef up vigilance and resist intrusion.

India-Pakistan
US 'interrogates' Imran Khan on drones
[Dawn] Pak politician Imran Khan
... aka Taliban Khan, who who convinced himself that playing cricket qualified him to lead a nuclear-armed nation with severe personality problems...
has said he was pulled off a New York-bound plane by US immigration officials and interrogated about his view on American drone strikes in his country.

Khan, leader of the Pakistain Tehrik-e-Insaf
...a political party in Pakistan. PTI was founded by former Pakistani cricket captain and philanthropist Imran Khan. The party's slogan is Justice, Humanity and Self Esteem, each of which is open to widely divergent interpretations....
(PTI), was headed to New York to attend a fund raiser organised by his party when he was stopped by US officials in Toronto on Friday, he said.

“I was taken off from plane and interrogated by US Immigration in Canada on my views on drones. My stance is known. Drone attacks must stop,” he wrote on Twitter.

Officials from Khan’s party said the delay meant he missed his flight and was late for the party fundraising event in New York, but he insisted “nothing will change my stance”.

“My stand on drones is very clear. I did not say sorry to them,” Khan said after arriving in New York, according to a local news channel.

“I still couldn’t understand why they did this. The official was questioning me about drones but I think he himself didn’t understand what he was talking about,” he added.

The US ambassador to Pakistain “knew that I will always oppose the drone attack, then why (did) they issue me visa”, he later said at the fund raising event.

Ali Zaidi, a senior party leader demanded “a prompt and thorough inquiry into this sordid episode” and sought “an unconditional apology from the US government”.

US officials in Washington declined to comment.

CID officer shot dead in Mosque
[Shabelle] A CID officer was rubbed out as he read a Koran inside a mosque in the Hagadera refugee camp in the larger Dadaab area near the Kenya-Somalia border.

Constable Yusuf Yerro was among about five people who were praying in the mosque Friday at about noon when a gunman walked in and shot him once in the head killing him on the spot.

Witnesses and police said the officer was holding a Koran when he was shot. He died instantly as the gunman escaped outside.

“The body lay in the mosque and next to the Holy Book before police arrived to remove it. He has been taken to his Habaswen home for burial,” said an elder in the area who asked not to be named.

The motive of the shooting was not immediately known but police suspect the officer who was working with CID’s Criminal Intelligence Unit was targeted because of his work.

Witnesses told police the gunman was joined by about four other people as he escaped on foot.

The shooting was the latest to happen in a series that have occurred in the larger refugee camp even as police try to contain the crime.

Colleagues of Yerro, a Bachelor of Education graduate said he had been jovial being a holy day that he intended to celebrate with other fellow Mohammedans in the area.

North Eastern police boss Philip Tuimur said they are yet to make an arrest but investigations were ongoing. He added they are investigating the motive behind the shooting.

The incident two days after three were killed the camp.

The bodies of Abdrashid Maalim Ahmed, 50, Hassan Aden Auul, 43 and Siat Mohamed Ismail, 48 were found in a thicket near the camp with bullet wounds.

Their killers are yet to be jugged

US expands drone base Djibouti to hit Somalia, Yemen
[Iran Press TV] The US government is expanding its drone base in the East African nation of Djibouti to escalate its liquidation strikes in Somalia and Yemen.

The US military has been flying armed drones over both countries from a base in Djibouti and is planning to build a second base in Æthiopia, a report by the Washington Post says.

The report added that the drones on missions over Somalia and Yemen take off or land at the base an average of 16 times per day.

The Lemonnier base has also become home to a squadron of US F-15 fighter jets, which it reports are flying combat missions over Yemen.

The US is also known to operate drones from two other East African countries -- Æthiopia and the Seychelles islands.

The base in the Seychelles that was previously used to fly surveillance drones will now host armed drones capable of flying their lethal payloads the more than 1,500 kms that separate the Indian Ocean island chain from Somalia and the African mainland and back.

However,
women are made to be loved, not understood...
drone operations from Æthiopia and Seychelles are nothing compared to the one at Camp Lemonnier. According to the report Lemonnier is the centerpiece of an expanding US network of drone and surveillance bases in Africa.

Washington has also been carrying out liquidation attacks using the unmanned aircraft in other countries including Afghanistan, Libya and Pakistain.

Uganda threatens to pull out of Somalia
[Shabelle] (Sh.M.Network)—Kampala yesterday said it was considering three options, including withdrawing from the Somalia peacekeeping mission, following a UN report alleging that Uganda and Rwanda are supporting M23 rebels who are fighting the DR Congo government.

State minister for regional cooperation, Mr Asuman Kiyingi, told the Daily Monitor yesterday that the second option was remaining involved in the operations despite the allegations while the third is demanding the UN to withdraw the allegations so that UPDF continues with the operations.

“In the worst case, which we don’t want, [the option] is withdrawing,” he said.

He said Uganda would withdraw from the war against Somali gunnies and fighting the Lord’s Resistance Army rebels in Central African Republic. “If the international community has lost confidence in us, we have to review our peace support operations. It’s logical that we review our position on these operations,” he said.

Ugandan soldiers, who have made a significant contribution in flushing out the al-Shabaab
... the successor to the Islamic Courts...
Death Eaters, guard key installations in Somalia like State House, the sea port and parliament and Mogadishu International Airport.

Mr Kiyingi said government will soon give a detailed response to the UN and also explain the role played by Uganda in mediating talks between DR Congo and the M23 rebels.

President Museveni, who is the chairperson of the International Conference for Great Lakes Region, has been acting as an arbiter in the conflict that has has displaced thousands of people in North Kivu.

IRGC monitors all ships in Persian Gulf: Iran cmdr.
[Iran Press TV] A senior commander of the Islamic Revolution Guard Corps (IRGC) says all the vessels crossing the Persian Gulf and the Strait of Hormuz are under constant and close surveillance of the IRGC Navy.

Speaking at a Saturday presser, Brigadier General Reza Torabi also pointed to IRGC's efforts over the past years to safeguard the security of Iran's territorial waters successfully and without any tension.

Slamming enemies' threats against Iran following the 1979 Islamic Revolution as empty, Torabi said, "The Western world has been threatening the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran for about 34 years in an attempt to conceal the problems it is facing, but all these threats are nonsensical rhetoric by the global arrogance."
That'd be us. They get tired of bitching about the Great Satan™ sometimes.
The Iranian commander pointed to the enemies' failures during the eight-year Iraqi imposed war against Iran and argued that any future aggression against the Islamic Theocratic Republic will be doomed to failure as Tehran has multiplied its military might over the past decades.

In July 2012, the US added five warships to its Fifth Fleet in Bahrain, in an attempt to beef up its military presence in the Persian Gulf, and has been also weighing various alternatives to boost its military presence in the Middle East, particularly across the Persian Gulf.

#1  But IMO Iran still desires to isolate the USN's CVBGS + EBGS, etc. + Allied OTH to outside the Strait of Hormuz AMAP AFAP ALAP, so that in a war scenario Iran can attack 'em widout having to detonate any Nukes-WMDS on their own soil.

This means exploiting iff not suppor the insurgencies of Al-Qaeda affiliates in the GCC + all around the Sunni KSA, + ME, North Africa-wide "Arab/Islamic Springs", AFPAK [Pak nukes + Afghan rapprochement], + local Shia Rights movements.

Iff Iran's strateegery is successful, the Persian Gulf per se will be a second or tertiary front to destroying or defeating the USN Carriers + Amphibs, etc. in the Sea of Oman, Arabian Gulf, + beyond.

Many years ago, upon learning of a terrorist attack in process, an Army Colonel commanding a Special Mission Unit, leaned forward in the foxhole and "self-deployed" an element to Germany to set up a Command, Control and Communications package. When his initiative was discovered by the Pentagon, he was ordered to stand-down and severly repremanded by then Secretary John O. Marsh. He was never promoted to General Officer, and the Special Mission Unit suffered debilitating oversight and restrictions for many years thereafter.

-Election 2012
White House considering new tax cut
[Washington Post] The White House is weighing the idea of a tax cut that it believes would lift Americans' take-home pay and boost a still-struggling economy, according to people familiar with the administration's thinking, as the presidential candidates continue battling over whose tax policies would do more for the country.
Suckers...
B.O. regime officials have concluded that the economy, while improved, is still fragile enough that it may need another bout of stimulus. The tax cut could replace the payroll tax cut championed by President B.O. in 2011 and 2012, which was designed as a buffer against economic shocks such as the financial crisis in Europe and high oil prices. It expires at year's end.

The new tax cut could provide hundreds of dollars or more a year to workers and show up in every paycheck. It may be similar to a tax cut Americans received in 2009 and 2010, which provided up to $400 for individuals and $800 for married couples, sources close to the administration said.

The administration's work on the proposal comes as each presidential candidate is under intense pressure to demonstrate he has the better tax plan. During the campaign, Obama has insisted that he wants to keep taxes from rising for the middle class while increasing them on the wealthy as a way of shoring up the country's finances. His challenger, Willard Mitt Romney
...former governor of Massachussetts, currently the Publican nominee for president. He is the son of the former governor of Michigan, George Romney, who himself ran for president after saving American Motors from failure, though not permanently. Romney has a record as a successful businessman, heading Bain Capital, and he rescued the 2002 Winter Olympics from the midst of bribery and mismanagement scandals. More to the point, he isn't President B.O...
, has sharply criticized Obama's approach, saying any new taxes would crimp economic growth, while also calling the White House's earlier stimulus efforts a failure.

The Romney campaign and top Republican politicians declined Friday to provide comment specifically about the tax cut being considered by the White House.

Uganda: Police Issue Idd Adhuha Terror Alert
[Shabelle] —The Police have issued a terror alert ahead of today’s Idd Adhuha celebrations. Kampala Metropolitan Police Spokesperson Ibin Ssenkumbi on Thursday urged the public to be vigilant.

He warned against the tendency by the public to be lax during such festivities, saying any loophole can easily be exploited by terrorists.

“As we celebrate, we should not forget that there are groups that are ready to cause mayhem. People need to be conscious of this so that the day is not marred by tragedy,” Ssenkumbi said.

He, however, said the Police was on high alert to avert any possible attacks.

“We shall deploy all over the city and we expect the organisers of the celebrations and prayers to secure the venues. We shall thoroughly check people accessing mosques and celebration venues.” Ssenkumbi said.

The Police said they will also clamp down on reckless driving in a bid to curb accidents that have rocked celebrations in recent years.

He urged the masses to inform the Police immediately if they see any suspicious-looking items like bags, cars, boxes and unexpected gifts.

Detroit area Freeway shooter at it again.
There have been two more shootings today on I-96 in Bloody Williamson Livingston County that law enforcement officials believe are connected to 22 other shootings that occurred during a three-day period earlier this month.

One man was struck in his buttocks,
if you gotta be shot, make it the buttocks
marking the first injury in the shootings, which police believe is the work of one man firing a handgun, mostly at motorists, while he drives.

Today's incidences come less than a fortnight after a gunman went on a three-day shooting spree through Oakland, Livingston, Ingham and Shiawassee counties, police officials have said.

Livingston County Sheriff Bob Bezotte said that at 11:52 a.m. today an 18-year-old driver called 9-1-1 to report that his car had been shot at while driving on I-96 near the Fowlerville Road exit. The shot, Bezotte, went through the rear driver's side window clear through the other side of the car. An 18-year-old woman was a passenger, he said. No one was hurt.

Militias Appear Taking Revenge Over Captured Bani Walid
[Tripoli Post] Hours after taking control of Bani Walid, a former stronghold of former Libyan dictator Muammar Qadaffy
... one of those little rainstorms from the Arab Spring...
, Libyan militias from the rival city of Misrata reportedly fired ferociously at its empty public buildings amid shouts of "holy shit! Allahu akbar (God is greatest) and "Today Bani Walid is finished."

It seems that the fighters sought to make their mark with gunfire and rocket-propelled grenades on a town they say still provides a refuge to many of the tossed Libyan leader's followers, Rooters has reported, adding that the central streets were empty except for the fighters who filled them with their violent celebration.

It also quoted a Misrata fighter by the name of Ali Mahmoud saying: "The Qadaffy fighters are out of Bani Walid, they have gone. Some people here still wanted Qadaffy, we have to show them that he is finished."

The town was taken over by militias known as Libya Shield aligned with the defence ministry after days of shelling on Wednesday. It sent thousands of families fleeing from the hilltop town in scenes reminiscent of last year's civil war.

The latest fighting, in which over 20 people were killed and hundreds maimed, erupted over a government demand that Bani Walid hand over those who had kidnapped and tortured Omar Shaaban, the former rebel fighter from Misrata who had been credited of catching Qadaffy in his hometown of Sirte last year. Shaaban died in a Gay Paree hospital last month from injuries inflicted during two months of captivity in Bani Walid. He had been kidnapped in July.

Many of the 70,000 residents of Bani Walid - 170 km south of Tripoli - belong to the powerful Warfala tribe, which was mostly loyal to Qadaffy. The town and its now-displaced inhabitants, long isolated from the rest of Libya, fear retribution and wonder what fate awaits them in the post-Qadaffy era.

While the government has set up committees to tackle security, services and the return of refugees to Bani Walid, militia commanders say they will stay to keep the town "secure".

Claudia Gazzini of the International Crisis Group said that such groups have a background and a certain vision of what Libya should be and it doesn't always necessarily match that of the elected officials at the (ruling) General National Congress, GNC. "This risks pushing back the reconciliation attempts that could have been fostered better in a peaceful manner between Bani Walid and the rest of Libya," she said.

"The other problem here is that we have a military action to free men who were arbitrarily tossed in the slammer
You have the right to remain silent...
by Bani Walid, but at the same time we have the same situation in other cities, Misrata first of all," Gazzini said, adding that she believed that the BNC has sort of followed this intense lobbying attack by the Misratans and by groups of Bani Walid revolutionaries who were kicked out of Bani Walid/

Army officials said they had freed several detainees in Bani Walid and captured some fighters who used to belong to a brigade commanded by Qadaffy's son Khamis.

Human rights groups have urged the authorities to make clear that looting, beatings and destruction will be prosecuted, with Fred Abrahams, special adviser at Human Rights Watch
... dedicated to bitching about human rights violations around the world...
saying that the government and forces under its command should protect residents in Bani Walid and reject acts of Dire Revenge™.

Meanwhile,
...back at the pond, the radioactive tadpoles grown into frogs. Really big frogs, in fact...
Saleh Gaouda, a Benghazi congress member is reported saying that the priority of the authorities was to give Bani Walid residents the security to be able to return to their homes.

"It is important to make people inside Bani Walid believe in February 17th," he said, referring to the name given to the 2011 rebellion against Qadaffy. "This can be done through the media, talking, giving them a chance to be part of society."

Al-Qaeda Leader Calls On Muslims To Kidnap Westerners
[AFP] Al-Qaeda leader Ayman al-Zawahiri
... Formerly second in command of al-Qaeda, now the head cheese, occasionally described as the real brains of the outfit. Formerly the Mister Big of Egyptian Islamic Jihad. Bumped off Abdullah Azzam with a car boom in the course of one of their little disputes. Is thought to have composed bin Laden's fatwa entitled World Islamic Front Against Jews and Crusaders. Currently residing in the North Wazoo area. That is not a horn growing from the middle of his forehead, but a prayer bump, attesting to how devout he is...
has urged Egyptians to restart their revolution to press for Islamic law and called on Moslems to kidnap Westerners, the SITE Intelligence Group said Friday.

In a video released on jihadist forums and translated by the US monitoring service, Zawahiri also lashed out at President Barack Obama
How's it going, Sunshine?...
, calling him a liar and demanding he admit defeat in Iraq, Afghanistan and North Africa.

"Our captives or Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahamn will not be liberated except through force, for it is the only language that they understand."
Criticizing the new Egyptian government -- led by a president drawn from the Moslem Brüderbund -- as corrupt, he said a battle is being waged in Egypt between a secular minority and Moslems seeking implementation of Shariah law.

The Egyptian doctor, the former deputy to slain Al-Qaeda leader the late Osama bin Laden
... who is currently taking a long nap in the dirt... urm... water...
, said these Egyptians want to see their government liberated from US influence and Paleostinian victory over Israel, SITE reported.

"The battle isn't over, but it has started," Zawahiri said, urging "every sincere person in Egypt" to "wage a popular campaign to incite and preach in order to complete the revolution, which was aborted.

"The revolution in Egypt must continue and the Moslem Ummah must offer sacrifices until it achieves what it wants and until it snatches from the corrupt forces ... the dignity and honor of Egypt."

Zawahiri said liberating Omar Abdul Rahman, an Egyptian holy man incarcerated
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
in the United States for his role in the 1993 World Trade Center attack, and inmates at the US prison at Guantanamo Bay was an "obligatory duty for every Moslem."

"I call upon Moslems to capture citizens of the countries that wage wars against Moslems," he said.

"Our captives or Sheikh Omar Abdul Rahamn will not be liberated except through force, for it is the only language that they understand."

In that vein, he referenced Warren Weinstein, a relief worker with USAID who was captured in Lahore, Pakistain, in August 2011.

Zawahiri also called Obama a "professional liar."

"Obama must admit he and his allies are standing in the defeated line, and that Osama bin Laden, may Allah have mercy on him, and the rest of the Mujahideen and the Moslem Ummah are standing in the victorious line, whether anyone likes it or not."

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Truce in Tatters as Fighting, Air Raid Rock Syria
[An Nahar] Fighting raged across Syria and an air raid struck near Damascus
...The capital of Iran's Syrian satrapy...
on Saturday after a declared ceasefire for a Mohammedan holiday fell apart, with at least 175 killed since it was due to take effect.

The truce for the holiday that started Friday conditionally agreed by the regime and the rebel Free Syrian Army (FSA) had raised the prospect of the first real halt to the fighting after 19 months of conflict.

But after fresh fighting on both Friday and Saturday, rebels and a monitoring group declared the ceasefire well and truly dead.

As festivities between Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
's forces and rebels continued, a Syrian warplane struck a building in a rebel-held area east of Damascus that has been the scene of heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual light or desultory fighting...
for weeks, killing eight.

"This was the first fighter jet air strike since the declaration" of a truce for the four-day Eid al-Adha holiday, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"The truce is dead," the group's director Rami Abdel Rahman commented. "We can no longer talk of a truce."

A rebel commander in the northern city of Aleppo
...For centuries, Aleppo was Greater Syria's largest city and the Ottoman Empire's third, after Constantinople and Cairo. Although relatively close to Damascus in distance, Aleppans regard Damascenes as country cousins...
said there was no doubt the ceasefire initiative, proposed by UN-Arab League
...an organization of Arabic-speaking states with 22 member countries and four observers. The League tries to achieve Arab consensus on issues, which usually leaves them doing nothing but a bit of grimacing and mustache cursing...
envoy Lakhdar Brahimi, had collapsed.

"This is a failure for Brahimi. This initiative was dead before it started," Abdel Jabbar al-Okaidi, head of the FSA military council in Aleppo, told Agence La Belle France Presse by telephone.

He insisted the FSA had not broken the ceasefire and was only carrying out defensive actions.

"I was on several fronts yesterday and the army did not stop shelling," Okaidi said. "Our mission is to defend the people, it is not us who are attacking."

The Eid holiday had started Friday with a slowdown in the fighting -- and state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
footage of Assad smiling and chatting with worshippers at a Damascus mosque -- but quickly degenerated.

The Observatory, a key monitor of the conflict, said 146 people were killed in bombings and fighting on Friday, including 53 civilians, 50 rebels and 43 members of Assad's forces.

On Saturday, fresh violence killed at least another 29 people, the Observatory said, amid festivities and attacks in Damascus province, Aleppo, Daraa in the south and the eastern city of Deir Ezzor.

Among the dead were five killed in a car kaboom in Deir Ezzor, it said. State television blamed the attack on "terrorists" and said the bomb had gone off in front of a church, causing significant damage.

According to the Observatory, a total of more than 35,000 people have been killed in the conflict, which began as an anti-regime uprising but is now a civil war pitting mainly Sunni rebels against Assad's regime dominated by his minority Alawite sect, an offshoot of Shiite Islam.

The Britannia-based Observatory relies on a countrywide network of activists, lawyers and medics in civilian and military hospitals. It says its tolls take into account civilian, military, and rebel casualties.

Assad's forces and the FSA had both agreed to a call by Brahimi to lay down their arms for the Eid, but both also reserved the right to respond to attacks.

Brahimi had hoped the truce might lead to a more permanent ceasefire during which he could push for a political solution and bring aid to stricken areas of the country.

Okaidi, the FSA commander in Aleppo, said the ceasefire had been doomed from the start and that the international community needed to stop putting faith in the regime.

"The Syrian people have become guinea pigs. Every time there is an envoy who tries an initiative, while we know the regime will not respect it."

Miqati Decides He Won't Step Down
[An Nahar] Prime Minister Najib Miqati stressed on Saturday that he will not step down currently, lashing out at the March 14-led opposition accusations that held him responsible for Intelligence Bureau head Brigadier General Wissam al-Hasan's "blood."

"I will not resign now and I will not allow for this to create a new crisis in the country," Miqati told MTV.

The liquidation of Hasan last week has raised fears about unrest in the country, which is divided between supporters and opponents of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Trampler of Homs...
, whose country supervised its small neighbor for nearly 30 years.

The premier pointed out that he reached out to the opposition when he announced that his resignation is possible as he isn't holding on to power but "it accused me of being responsible for the blood" of Hasan.

He noted that if he submitted his resignation now then "I would be admitting to the opposition's accusations."

"Let them revise their actions so that I revise mine," Miqati said.

The March 14 coalition blamed Miqati for Hasan's "blood" and called on him to step down.

The March 14 youth groups had erected tents near the Grand Serail, demanding Miqati to resign after festivities broke out between mourners, mainly March 14 supporters, and the security forces near the premier's office after the funeral of Hasan.

Police had gun sex and used tear gas to drive back protesters who tried to storm the premier's office.

The Ashrafiyeh bombing in Beirut that killed Hasan along with two others deepened the gap between the March 14 alliance and the March 8 forces
... the opposition to the Mar. 14th movement, consisting of Hizbullah and its allies, so-called in commemoration of their Mar. 8th, 2006 demonstration of strength in Beirut ...
According to MTV, the cabinet will convene on Wednesday at the Baabda Palace.

President Michel Suleiman
...before assuming office as President, he held the position of commander of the Leb Armed Forces. That was after the previous commander, the loathesome Emile Lahoud, took office as president in November of 1998. Likely the next president of Leb will be whoever's commander of the armed forces, too...
is carrying out consultations with rival political parties to convince them to resume the national dialogue.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
the March 14-led opposition insists on the resignation of the government as a main condition for the resumption of the national dialogue and official activity with their foes, while the March 8 coalition rejects the formation of a new cabinet on allegations that there's no alternative.

Afghanistan
Karzai Calls for Pakistan's Cooperation Amid Fazlullah Disagreement
[Tolo News] Afghanistan's Caped President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
... A former Baltimore restaurateur, now 12th and current President of Afghanistan, displacing the legitimate president Rabbani in December 2004. He was installed as the dominant political figure after the removal of the Taliban regime in late 2001 in a vain attempt to put a Pashtun face on the successor state to the Taliban. After the 2004 presidential election, he was declared president regardless of what the actual vote count was. He won a second, even more dubious, five-year-term after the 2009 presidential election. His grip on reality has been slipping steadily since around 2007, probably from heavy drug use...
on Friday warned that without Pakistain's cooperation in fighting terrorism it will be impossible for the countries to be secure.

"We want for Afghanistan and Pakistain be secure from terrorism, but with Pakistain's honest cooperation, it's impossible," Karzai said after the Eid al-Adha prayers at the Presidential Palace on Friday.

Karzai made the comments after a tense week of the two countries arguing over the location of a Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain leader, Mullah Fazlullah
...son-in-law of holy man Sufi Mohammad. Known as Mullah FM, Fazlullah had the habit of grabbing his FM mike when the mood struck him and bellowing forth sermons. After ruling the place like a conquered province for a year or so, Fazlullahs Talibs began gobbling up more territory as they pushed toward Islamabad, at which point as a matter of self-preservation the Mighty Pak Army threw them out and chased them into Afghanistan...
, whom Pakistain says is responsible for giving the order to shoot schoolgirl Malala Yousafzai as well as a number of attacks on its military.

Kabul has refused to accept Islamabad's claim that Fazlullah is in eastern Afghanistan, despite Pakistain sharing its intelligence dossier with both Isaf and Afghanistan on the grounds of wanting him extradited back to Pakistain.

"There are Death Eaters living on the Pak soil for many, many years and no action has been taken against them", the Afghan Ministry of Interior front man Sediq Sediqi said on Wednesday, suggesting that Afghanistan's refusal to act on the information while also denying Fazlullah's presence is a retaliatory move for Pakistain failing to shut down the Taliban and Haqqani networks in North Wazoo.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Human Ancestor Walked like Man, Climbed like Ape
More than three million years ago, ancient ancestors of humans were walking upright -- but they could still climb trees like monkeys, a study showed Thursday in the U.S. journal "Science."

Based on careful analysis of a pair of shoulder blades -- both exceptionally well-preserved from a skeleton of a three-year-old Australopithecus afarensis girl -- scientists were able to settle a question intensely debated by anthropologists for more than three decades.

The girl, called Selam, lived some 3.3 million years ago, and is from the same species as Lucy, one of the earliest hominid skeletons ever uncovered.

Selam was discovered in 2000 in the Ethiopian region of Dikika. For 11 years after that, Zeresenay Alemseged of the California Academy of Sciences worked carefully with Kenyan lab technician Christopher Kiarie to extract her shoulder blades from the rest of the skeleton.

"Because shoulder blades are paper-thin, they rarely fossilize -- and when they do, they are almost always fragmentary," Alemseged said in a statement.

"So finding both shoulder blades completely intact and attached to a skeleton of a known and pivotal species was like hitting the jackpot."

Alemseged said the study suggests that our ancestors stopped climbing behavior much later than suggested by previous research.

Once the shoulder blades were extracted, Alemseged and co-author David Green of Midwestern University compared them to other early human relatives and to adult skeletons of Australopithecus afarensis.

They also compared the bones to those of modern apes.

"When we compared Selam's scapula with adult members of Australopithecus afarensis, it was clear that the pattern of growth was more consistent with that of apes than humans," Green said.

"It's really an interesting transition: they show evidence for bipedalism," or walking on two feet, he told Agence France Presse. "But we think they maintained the adaptation for climbing as well. They climbed to escape predators, for food."

Green said it remains unclear just when humans shifted away from climbing.

By the time homo erectus emerged around 1.9 million years ago, the skeleton had changed significantly: "it's much longer, leaner, with proportions more like those of modern humans," he said.

But "between Lucy, which is about 3.5 million years ago, to the homo erectus, there is a long gap we are trying to fill with fossils to understand," Green explained.

Alemseged said the new information helps fill in the picture of the evolution towards homo sapiens.

"This new find confirms the pivotal place that Lucy and Selam's species occupies in human evolution," he said.

"Though not fully human, A. afarensis was clearly on its way."

Syria Army Says Will Fight Back against Rebel Violations
[An Nahar] The Syrian army on Saturday accused rebels of committing increasing violations of a failed truce proposed for the Moslem Eid al-Adha holiday and vowed to fight back.

"For the second day, terrorist groups continued to flagrantly violate the ceasefire announced and respected by the army command," the military said in a statement on state television.
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
"The army will continue to track this increase of violations... and fight back against these criminal acts."

Foreign ministry front man Jihad Maqdisi said the army was committed to the truce, blaming rebels for provoking a response.

"The Syrian government is still completely committed to stopping military operations," Maqdisi told Agence La Belle France Presse in an email.

"But the violations that were committed were a consequence of attacks staged mostly by (rebel) groups that from the beginning refused the ceasefire, as shown by their official statements," he added.

The Syrian authorities have informed the UN Security Council of truce violations, he said. "We have documented the violations and sent messages to the UN Security Council," said Maqdisi.

United Nations should be kicked off US soil: Connie Mack
[Iran Press TV] Republican congressman Connie Mack has called on the US administration to stop funding the United Nations,
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
saying the world body should be "kicked off US soil."

Connie, who is the representative for Florida's 14th congressional district, condemned the Organization for Security and Cooperation in Europe (OSCE) for its plan to send monitors to polling places across the United States on Election Day to monitor the event.

OSCE, which is registered as an NGO with the UN, will send 44 observers across America to monitor the voting centers. The organization was asked by American civil rights groups to monitor the election, after being warned of "a coordinated political effort to disenfranchise millions of Americans - particularly traditionally disenfranchised groups like minorities."

The 45-year-old congressman stressed that the news should have outraged every American, because "the only ones who should ever oversee American elections are Americans."

The Republican politician said that the idea that the UN "would be allowed, if not encouraged" to monitor the US election, "is nothing short of disgusting."

"For years the United Nations has aggressively worked against the best interests of our country and many of our allies. The UN's actions and intentions toward the United States have been nothing short of reprehensible," Connie added.

#1  I've been following the debate about OSCE observers. They were invited by leftists to monitor the "vast right-wing conspiracy." Since that is poppycock, I'm with EC on this one. Let them come observe, and see that no one is oppressing minorities (except when they vote Republican). I would very much like for them to observe the NBPP, and see who is truly being intimidated. There ARE problems at the polls that the authorities do nothing about - but they overwhelmingly originate with frustrated, lawless commies harassing people who disagree with them. So why shouldn't conservatives welcome the OSCE observers? They could also be called witnesses.
Posted by: RandomJD || 10/28/2012 0:38 Comments || Top||

#2  RandomJD, exactly! And don't forget that most of these observers are quite experienced. They know what REAL fraud looks like (in places like Belarus, Ukraine or Uzbekistan). They'd probably find it amazing that in most places in the US you can STILL vote without a photo ID (I don't know a single European country where you could do this).

So to justify their presence they will find a few minor things but in the end they will praise them.

Connie Mack should understand that they don't "oversee" or "monitor" anything, all they do is watching true democracy at work.

And once again, while the OSCE is affiliated with the UN, it's not a UN organization or controlled by the UN.

Push for an ally (Canada or Australia) to be the next General Secretary (or secretary general) and start to use the damned organization instead of passively allowing it to be used against us.

Rights groups urge immediate action to protect Myanmar's Rohingya Muslims
[Dawn] Human Rights Watch
... dedicated to bitching about human rights violations around the world...
urged the government of Myanmar on Saturday to take immediate steps to stop violence against the Rohingya Mohammedan population in the Arakan State of western Myanmar.

According to a statement by the rights group, new satellite imagery obtained by the right group shows extensive destruction of homes and other property in a predominantly Rohingya Mohammedan area of the coastal town of Kyauk Pyu – which, it says, is one of several areas of new violence and displacement.

The group called on Myanmar to urgently provide security for the Rohingya, which it said were under “vicious attack”, and to ensure protection and aid were given to the affected Mohammedan and Buddhist communities in the region.

HRW released the satellite images on Saturday which appears to show mass burnings and widespread destruction of a coastal district marred by ethnic unrest.

According to the group, a total of 811 destroyed building structures can be identified from the images of the eastern edge of Kyauk Pyu city – a predominantly Rohingya area. The destruction, it says, was likely caused by arson attacks occurring October 24.

It adds that the victims were mostly Mohammedan Rohingyas.

“Unless the authorities also start addressing the root causes of the violence, it is only likely to get worse,” said Phil Robertson, HRW deputy Asia director.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
3.6 million Social Security numbers hacked in S.C.
[The State] The U.S. Secret Service detected a security breach at the S.C. Department of Revenue on Oct. 10, but it took state officials 10 days to close the attacker’s access and another six days to inform the public that 3.6 million Social Security numbers had been compromised.

The attack also exposed 387,000 credit and debit card numbers. The stolen data included other information people file with their tax returns such as names and addresses. Businesses’ taxpayer identification numbers also potentially have been comprised in the attack that is being described as one of the nation’s largest against a state agency.

The attack affects tax returns as far back as 1998, the Revenue Department said. But not all of the department’s data – so not every taxpayer – was affected, it said.

Most of the data had not been encrypted, meaning the hacker would not need a key to a secret code to read the stolen data.

Revenue director James Etter said none of the Social Security numbers were encrypted and about 16,000 credit card numbers were not encrypted.

“That was not part of the system at that point,” Etter said during Gov. Nikki Haley’s press conference Friday to announce the breach. “That’s something we’ll be looking into.”

Officials, including State Law Enforcement Division Chief Mark Keel, said the millions of affected S.C. taxpayers had not been notified sooner because agents needed to reach “certain benchmarks in their investigation.”

Keel said it took time to determine how much data had been compromised. And investigators needed time to gather evidence that could lead to prosecution.

It is not known how the security breach has affected taxpayers and whether or how the hacker might have used the data.

#1  ...It appears - as of now - that our data wasn't among those compromised, but we aren't taking any chances: fraud alerts at the bank and credit reporting agencies, calls to the credit cards.

I hate these guys.

Bangladesh
People waiting for regime change: Khaleda
[Bangla Daily Star] Claiming that the country’s people are eagerly waiting for a regime change, opposition leader Khaleda Zia
Three-term PM of Bangla, widow of deceased dictator Ziaur Rahman, head of the Bangla Nationalist Party, an apparent magnet for corruption ...
on Saturday said the government must restore the non-party caretaker government system to hold the next national election in a credible manner.

“Once Awmi League had been in a movement for introducing the caretaker government claiming that a fair and credible election is not possible under a partisan government. Singing the same music, we’re now telling an impartial election is not possible under a party government,” she told news hounds after exchanging Eid greetings with a cross-section of people at the city’s Ladies’ Club.

Kaleda Zia exchanged Eid greetings with politicians, diplomats, city elite, teachers and people from the all walks of life from 11:45am to 1:35pm.

Eid-ul-Azha, the second largest religious festival of the Moslems, is being celebrated in the country today (Saturday).

Khaleda accused the government of having failed to run the country on all fronts and said the government even could not ensure people’s basic rights, including food and clothes.

“The government should understand that people don’t want to see them in power any more. They’ve got fed-up with the government’s performance and have lost their confidence in it. So, the government should quit on moral grounds. People are now looking forward to the 18-party alliance to save them from this messy condition,” the former premier said.

She also castigated the government for tainting the country’s image both at home and abroad by indulging in widespread corruption, saying the country is now known to foreigners as a corrupt one.

“Even foreigners also have no confidence in the present government,” Khaleda told her audience, adding, “Test your popularity joining the polls under a non-party caretaker government, if you (Govt) think you’ve any popularity.”

No terror attacks on Eid a success for govt: Malik
[Dawn] Interior Minister Rehman Malik
Pak politician, Interior Minister under the Gilani government. Malik is a former Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) intelligence officer who rose to head the FIA during Benazir Bhutto's second tenure. Malik was tossed from his FIA job in 1998 after documenting the breath-taking corruption of the Sharif family. By unhappy coincidence Nawaz Sharif became PM at just that moment and Malik moved to London one step ahead of the button men. He had to give up the interior ministry job because he held dual Brit citizenship.
said the fact that no terrorism related incidents occurred in the country on Eidul Azha, was a success on the part of the government, DawnNews reported.

Speaking to the media, he apologised for the inconvenience to the general public due to the closure of mobile phone services.

The interior minister also said that the closure of mobile services today helped prevent Islamic fascisti from carrying out attacks.

During his talk to the media, Malik also said that if Youtube barred access on its website to anti-Islamic material, then there is a possibility of the site being reopened.

Arabia
UAE Denounces EU Human Rights Criticism
[An Nahar] The United Arab Emirates on Saturday denounced a European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
resolution which criticized the human rights
...which are usually open to widely divergent definitions...
situation in the Gulf country, saying it made unfounded accusations against it.

The resolution was "biased and prejudiced (and) throws accusations haphazardly without substantiating the facts," Foreign Minister Anwar Gargash said in a statement.

He said that the UAE, one of the most liberal countries of the Gulf, "represents a society of people of over 200 different nationalities who co-exist in an atmosphere of openness and tolerance."

The EU Parliament on Friday issued a resolution criticizing the human rights situation in the Emirates, highlighting the repression of political prisoners and the exploitation of migrant workers.

The resolution was "unfair, which impacted its credibility," Gargash said, and "adopted unsubstantiated accusations by groups and organizations that made it a top priority to tarnish UAE's reputation."

Rebels Shell Capital of Sudan's S. Kordofan Again
[An Nahar] Residents have fled the capital of Sudan's South Kordofan state after renewed shelling, a witness said on Saturday, as rebels grabbed credit for their third attack this month.

"Yesterday five shells hit the ground inside the town while an official delegation from Khartoum was visiting," during the Eid al-Adha Moslem holiday, said the witness in Kadugli who asked for anonymity.

"I didn't see any casualties or maimed. But most of the residents of Kadugli took their families out of town."

Rebel mortar fire targeted an army divisional headquarters and an artillery base in Kadugli after government air strikes on rebel-held villages, said Arnu Ngutulu Lodi, front man for the Sudan People's Liberation Movement-North (SPLM-N).

"People told me, 6:00 am (03:00 GMT) Friday morning the bombing started" in areas around rebel-held Kauda town and around Kadugli, where a defence ministry delegation arrived for Eid al-Adha prayers, Lodi told Agence La Belle France Presse.

One child was injured and several houses destroyed by the government air raids, he said.

"We responded, shelling Kadugli."

Sudan's army front man could not be immediately reached on Saturday, and a senior ruling party official said he was too busy to talk.
