Are Klingons censoring jailed contractor's explosive book to protect Clinton?
[Mail] The CIA has been accused of political bias by trying to stall publication of an explosive memoir which could damage Hillary Clinton's chances of reaching the White House.

The book tells the story of CIA contractor Raymond Davis, who was imprisoned in Pakistan in 2011 after shooting two men in self defense before being released in a controversial blood-money deal.

According to the authors, the CIA held the book manuscript for several months before demanding a swathe of redactions - even on information that is publicly available - pushing the publication of the book from September 2016 to March 2017.

Davis and his co-author Storms Reback believe the book - entitled The Contractor - could be seen as another 'Benghazi situation' for presidential candidate Clinton - which may explain the agency's attempts to delay publication until after the November 2016 election.

They also accuse the State Department - under Clinton's rule - of withholding two key interviews carried out for the book, which almost prevented the memoir from being written at all.

In an exclusive interview with DailyMail.com, the book's co-author Storms Reback revealed how Army veteran Davis has 'zero trust' in Clinton as a potential president and believes she would have abandoned him in a Pakistani prison, facing possible execution.

He thinks that had it not been for the U.S. military's plans to kill Osama bin Laden on Pakistani soil, Davis would still be languishing in prison - or worse still, dead.

Author Reback, 46, said: 'Both Ray and I believe the CIA are acting politically by delaying publication - they held on to the book for six months and slowed the whole thing down.

'It definitely seems like there is something funny going on behind the scenes - the book was supposed to come out the third week of September and the CIA went out of its way to delay the whole process.

'We turned the manuscript in months ago, then they redacted it, we responded and then they weren't happy with the changes. It kept getting delayed until the point where we had to push publication to March 2017.

'Ray does think that maybe the CIA, even though he is loyal to them, didn't want it to be published right before the election because it could have an influence on it.

'Although this incident isn't exactly the same, it could be seen as a mini-Benghazi for Hillary Clinton.

HRC - Phosphate money from Morocco?
[Al Monitor 10 April 2015] WASHINGTON -- Presidential hopeful Hillary Rodham Clinton is endorsing the illegal exploitation of disputed lands and risks undermining four decades of UN diplomacy by taking money from Morocco, critics say.

Clinton, who's expected to announce her candidacy for the Democratic nomination April 12, has come under fire for accepting foreign contributions to the Clinton Foundation, most recently a $1 million donation from OCP, a fertilizer giant owned by the Moroccan government. Left unsaid in the initial reports: OCP -- the Office Chérifien des Phosphates -- is a major player in the exploitation of mineral resources from the Western Sahara, a disputed territory known as the "last colony in Africa" that Morocco took over after colonial power Spain abandoned it in the 1970s.

"You’ve heard of blood diamonds, but in many ways you could say that OCP is shipping blood phosphate," Rep. Joe Pitts, R-Pa., told Al-Monitor. "Western Sahara was taken over by Morocco to exploit its resources and this is one of the principal companies involved in that effort."

A co-chairman of the Western Sahara Caucus and the Tom Lantos Human Rights Commission, Pitts is one of a small handful of lawmakers willing to buck Morocco, a longtime US ally that runs a massive lobbying and PR operation in Washington. On April 10, he sent a letter to the Clinton Foundation, first obtained by Al-Monitor, along with House Foreign Affairs human rights panel Chairman Chris Smith, R-N.J., asking the foundation to refund the money and "discontinue its coordination with OCP."

James O'Keefe Files FEC Suit Against Hillary Clinton
[Breitbart] James O’Keefe and Project Veritas are filing a formal complaint with the Federal Election Commission against Hillary Clinton’s campaign and the Democratic National Committee. The decision comes amid increasing media coverage of the two videos released by O’Keefe, which expose apparently illicit actions by a group of political actors associated with the Clinton campaign, the DNC and the White House.

The establishment media was forced to cover O’Keefe’s videos after one subject, Robert Creamer, announced he would quit working for the DNC. This break came a day after the first video release prompted another subject, Scott Foval, to leave his job with another Democratic political group, Americans United for Change.

James O’Keefe told Breitbart News exclusively:

"As the chairman of Project Veritas, our work is financially independent and beholden to nobody. Our work is funded by thousands of contributors, small, medium, and large. What I have learned about our media ‐ and it’s frightening ‐ is that almost everyone is compromised. Media companies are beholden to stockholders and I have sources that I am trying to get to go on the record to explain that these companies are afraid of reporting this story for fear of political retaliation. If the public knew the truth, I think it would change everything about American politics."

Wiki: HRC foundation trade-off with Morocco amid $12 million commitment (Video)
[Fox] Just hours after Hillary Clinton dodged a question at the final presidential debate about charges of "pay to play" at the Clinton Foundation, a new batch of WikiLeaks emails surfaced with stunning charges that the candidate herself was at the center of negotiating a $12 million commitment from King Mohammed VI of Morocco.

One of the more remarkable parts of the charge is that the allegation came from Clinton's loyal aide, Huma Abedin, who described the connection in a January 2015 email exchange with two top advisers to the candidate, John Podesta and Robby Mook.

Abedin wrote that "this was HRC's idea" for her to speak at a meeting of the Clinton Global Initiative in Morocco in May 2015 as an explicit condition for the $12 million commitment from the king.

"She created this mess and she knows it," Abedin wrote to Podesta and Mook.

The "mess" refers in part to the fact that the three Clinton advisers were discussing the possibility of the former secretary of state pulling out of speaking at the May 2015 event because it was happening one month after the official launch of her presidential campaign and could raise more questions about her role at the foundation.

In April 2015, Politico reported the Clinton Foundation was accepting a "major donation" of at least $1 million from a Moroccan government-owned company, OCP, a phosphate exporter. Politico added that an official at the foundation said it was "unlikely" Hillary would attend the May 2015 event, just weeks after the April launch of her campaign.

James O'Keefe Says Donna Brazile's Head May Be Next to Roll
[PJ] Having already gotten Democrat operatives Scott Foval and Robert Creamer (Congresswoman Jan Schakowsky's husband) to "resign" after the release of the first two parts of his recent sting, James O'Keefe just hinted that he's got bigger fish to fry.

The MSM has been dismissing the videos that sunk Foval and Creamer with weak nonsense about them being "low-level" and "unknown," despite the fact that Creamer is married to a member of Congress. If Brazile is forced to go, look for a lot of unfounded attacks on O'Keefe designed to distract. Brazile has her current job because her predecessor was forced to step down under scandalous circumstances. I would say "resign in disgrace," but Democrats really aren't embarrassed by their behavior.

Twitter censors videos of Clinton Campaign staff voter fraud, paying agitators for Trump rally violence
by anon1

I have been trying to share the Project Veritas videos on Twitter.

They're important:

The first one shows Clinton campaign staff bragging about hiring agitators to cause trouble at Trump rallies including the violence in Chicago that prevented the Republican nominee from speaking, and the this lady who pretended she was punched and deliberately fell on the floor.

Hillary capitalised on it and her surrogates and media shills all sung "where Trump goes, violence follows".

The second one shows Clinton campaign staff bragging they commit electoral fraud by buying used cars and hiring "staff" with shell companies to vote multiple times in multiple states.

Twitter tried to silence James O'Keefe's videos

But because of pressure they had to put him back online.

When the wikileaks dump happened showing the Clinton camp lied about foreign donations to the Clinton Foundation both to WaPo reporters (and again in the 3rd Debate) I tried to share links to the relevant wikileaks email plus the James O'Keefe Project Veritas videos with the journalists affected and news outlets.

I tweeted a lot that day - but no responses. Usually someone will "like" or answer back they disagree or retweet or say thanks for the news tip.

But no reply

Then I went from my sister's account to look - and couldn't see any tweets for weeks.

I went back from my own account - sure enough it looked like the tweets were there.

Twitter is shadow-banning these links trying to stop them from trending or being seen - but not outright banning people to prevent them from being angry at being censored.

YOU think you've tweeted, but nobody can see.

This is disturbing as it shows how long the arm of the Clinton Corruption has become.

Clinton has:

* Leaned on Ecuador (via John Kerry) to cut Assange off the internet (while spreading wild conspiracy theories that Wikileaks is Russia)

* Stitched up the Mainstream Media so only favourable coverage goes out about her and only negative about Trump (eg: here)

* Got FaceBook to censor and persecute conservatives

* Got Reddit effectively censored, with subreddits like r/Politics acting like campaign sites for Hillary

* Got phoney media sites like alternet (at which Sidney Blumenthal's son is a senior boss) spewing out propaganda dressed as news

* Allowed her family foundation to accept money from foreign countries while she was Secretary of State in a clear conflict of interest, giving them access and policy favours in return

* Hocked the US into a proxy war between Saudi and Iran that practically nobody even knows we are in and we shouldn't even be there. (Yemen anyone?)

* Turned Libya into a failed state now used by Islamic State as a sea port to Europe for millions of Muslims on hijra with jihadis hidden among them

* Lied about deleting her emails to the House Committee on Benghazi

* Paid agitators to smear her election opponent as "violent", "sexist" and "racist" including provoking civil unrest

And despite all this and more she is running for President and the entire media is acting as though she is wonderful and Donald Trump is the devil.

How is it possible that US citizens are going to be able to vote fairly and freely when they have no chance of being informed or even hearing the other side of the story?

The media won't cover stories like they normally do and social media is censoring in such a way that the person is shouting into a void, wasting time, when they don't even know nobody can see what they've written.

AND WORSE: When Hillary gets into the White House she is going to purge the NSA and the intel organisations and put her people in there. She will use those massive powers that Snowden told us about to get revenge on the people who stood against her.

So what is going to happen, you tell me?

Once power is totally consolidated, the extensive redundancy in the media can be done away with and be reduced to a similar arrangement.

Trump Rips Mask Off Late-Term Abortion on National Stage
[PJ] I can't recall another election when a presidential candidate so honestly and brutally punched through the lies the left tells about abortion as Donald Trump did in last night's debate. Christians ought to be celebrating. Donald Trump forcefully proclaimed that Hillary Clinton supports ripping a baby to pieces until the very moment of birth at a full 40 weeks of gestation. This is 100% true; Clinton has stated on camera several times that she believes a pre-born person has no Constitutional rights and therefore can be (and should be) murdered at whim.

Clinton shamelessly tried to deflect the truth that wholly formed viable babies are torn apart during abortion and incredibly claimed that's "not true." Excuse me? How else do you end a third-trimester abortion? You're not going to sprinkle it with fairy dust and wish it away, I can tell you that. There's only one way to get rid of a baby and that's to dispose of its body in some way. One of the chosen methods of the abortionist is "extraction and dilation," where they pull the baby, breech (feet first), and stab it in the back of the neck with something sharp while still in the birth canal. The other method widely used by Planned Parenthood "doctors" is to literally tear the boy or girl into pieces, pulling limbs and parts out of the woman one at a time. Then they get to put that puzzle from Hell back together again to make sure they didn't leave any pieces behind. Keep in mind that Democrats like Hillary Clinton have even fought against measures to give the babies pain relief during this process because that would be admitting they feel pain or something, and they can't have that, lest anyone figure out they are demonic wretches. These poor babies are torn piece by piece from their mothers' wombs because the women carrying them wanted fewer responsibilities.

Clinton lied again when she claimed to have met a woman who had to abort in the third trimester because her life was in danger. Doctors have confirmed over and over that there is NO CONDITION KNOWN TO MAN that requires a baby in utero to die to save the life of the mother. Please go find one. I dare you. Do not come back with ectopic pregnancies. Ectopic pregnancies (when a fertilized egg develops outside the uterus) are not viable pregnancies. They can never be viable pregnancies. The procedure to save the woman's life is not an abortion because the baby could never have survived and an abortionist isn't qualified to do it because it requires real surgical skill and not a vacuum and some forceps. The surgery to correct an ectopic pregnancy is usually the removal of the entire fallopian tube, called a salpingectomy. You cannot go to Planned Parenthood for a lifesaving salpingectomy. For that, I'd suggest Northwestern Hospital in Chicago. No one who has a salpingectomy tells people they had an abortion because it simply isn't true. Ectopic pregnancy is much more comparable to a miscarriage. All the other conditions the left always lists as reasons women need abortions are things like hypertension, hemorrhage, infection and the like, none of which are cured by abortion! All of those conditions can exist without being pregnant and a person who has them doesn't go to the doctor and hear, "Too bad you're not pregnant because an abortion would have saved you. There's nothing we can do." That's absurd!

WikiLeaks: ‘Corrupt Ruling Power Factions' Are Going To Win The Election
[Daily Caller] WikiLeaks suggested in several tweets Thursday that the 2016 election for president of the United States is rigged.

In response to criticism from blogger Dan Gillmor that WikiLeaks recent leaks have outed it as picking a side and playing partisan politics in the presidential election, WikiLeaks tweeted back, "You are not a fan of publishing true information about corrupt ruling power factions who will take power on Jan 20?"

WikiLeaks then hinted that the outcome of the election was obvious from the outset: "What election? It has been clear from the beginning who is going to win. This is, in effect, a power consolidation exercise."

WikiLeaks’ current activities have consisted of leaking information damaging to the Democratic Party and the campaign of Democratic presidential candidate Hillary Clinton. In late July, WikiLeaks published countless thousands of internal emails from the Democratic National Committee (DNC.)

#2  I hope the people can have their voice heard

and that if they choose to vote Trump and if Trump should get the majority of votes, that it won't be stolen or rigged or taken away from them

and just the same i hope that if Hillary legitimately wins, that we don't all think that it was only cause it was rigged

I pray for peace, and for it to be conducted in a manner befitting a civilised democracy, the only one with a constitution worth defending and according to the rule of law

and most of all i hope the corrupt crony culture in washington gets cleared out

what do you think? Does Trump have any chance to win?

Get your grandparents out to vote and their friends and everyone you know because i've never seen the media so biased

#3  anon1: what do you think? Does Trump have any chance to win?

He has a path to victory but it is narrow. It depends on the swing states. It also depends upon whether the informed voters are greater than the low-information voters who the Democrats depend upon in these swing states. Too bad you are not voting here as you would be an informed voter. As WikiLeaks brought out in the Podesta emails, the Dems rely upon an uninformed and compliant voter; one shaped by the MSM. The MSM has been absolutely awful in this country. They are an insult to our 1st Amendment rights. In addition to the MSM voter suppression efforts, Trump and O'Keefe's Veritas project have pointed out to the public the Dem election-rigging. The Dems are corrupt beyond belief. We'll see on Nov. 8th. Keeping the fingers crossed. Maybe there will be divine intervention.

we have a lot of expats here and the Australian media is actually WORSE than the US media

Thank goodness assange and wikileaks exposed the democrats lies in the emails

and thank goodness Project Veritas caught those people on camera

but twitter is censoring -- you cannot even tweet those links without them silencing you with a shadow-ban

That fat tub of lard Michael Moore actually wrote a piece telling the leftards that Trump will win because he went to the rustbelt and rightly told the sacked workers NAFTA stole their jobs, TPP would be worse and that he'd slap a 35% tariff on goods imported by companies that move to mexico for the cheap labor

of course he did that so as to get the Leftard complacents out and working for free for Crooked Hillary

But I'm hoping he is right.

It's so important

If Trump loses this election Western Civilisation is gone. Australia will follow the US lead of Hillary and the Islamofascists will win.

#5  One of the Podesta emails says how illegals can vote if they have a driver's license. No thanks to Bill Clinton for passing the "Motor-Voter law" in 1993 which opened yet another door for voter fraud.

John Podesta: I think Teddy’s idea scratches the itch, is pretty safe and uncomplicated.

On the picture ID, the one thing I have thought of in that space is that if you show up on Election Day with a drivers license with a picture, attest that you are a citizen, you have a right to vote in Federal elections.

These people are at war with American citizens. They have elevated Party above country--Stalin would have been proud of them.

#6  The US is conflicted, anon 1 - two-thirds don't trust Hillary, but two-thirds say they will vote for her. Perhaps not the same two-thirds.

80% of the folks have little to no respect for Congress, but they want to elect the ultimate insider to continue the leftist lean.

The last two elections have put more conservative-leaning people in the House and Senate but at the same time, re-elected Obama. Maybe more dead people voted for Obama than for members of the House of Representatives?

Conflicted. If all those who voted for Republican candidates in 2014 voted for Trump, it'd be a Trumpslide. If all those who voted for Obama in 2012 vote for Hillary ... well, you know.

#8  John QC: that's appalling about the motor-voter law enabling non-citizens to vote. i also saw the Clinton campaign shilling for lawyers to be election monitors, probably so they can bully pollsters into allowing non-citizens to vote. specifically lawyers they wanted.

Bobby: That is certainly a depressing thought do you really think 2/3 are going to vote clinton? or is it just the people the pollsters surveyed who might not be representative (like Brexit)

Newc: I reckon you're right, if the might US voters turn out and vote in PAPER not using the machines whose IP software is owned by a Soros-linked firm, then you're right I think Trump can win.

But what hope do they have if the internet is censored, twitter censored, google censored, facebook censored and the mainstream media acting like Pravda?

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US, Saudi Arabia blacklist Hezbollah members, financiers
[IsraelTimes] Treasury freezes assets, blocks transactions for affiliates of Lebanese terror group supporting Syrian leader Assad.

The United States and Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
on Thursday imposed sanctions on alleged Hezbollah members and financial backers, accusing them of funneling money to the Lebanese terror group or engaging in terrorism.

The US Treasury Department said it targeted four individuals and one company, effectively freezing their US assets and blocking any transactions with them, while also announcing related action by Saudi Arabia.

In a related action, the US State Department also blacklisted alleged Hezbollah commander Haytham Ali Tabatabai, alias Abu Ali al-Tabatabai, the Treasury Department said in a statement.

Tabatabai has commanded Hezbollah special forces, operated in Syria, and is now believed to be in Yemen, the State Department said. His actions in Syria and Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
"are part of a larger Hezbollah effort to provide training, materiel and personnel in support of its destabilizing regional activities."

The State Department declared Hezbollah a terrorist organization in 1997 and long-standing US efforts have sought to disrupt the organization’s funding.

Founded in the 1980s in Leb, the Shiite murderous Moslem organization and political party has provided military support to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
in the Syrian conflict, and American officials blame it for attacks stretching back to the 1980s.

"Hezbollah continues to plan, coordinate and execute terrorist attacks around the world, and Treasury will continue to aggressively target Hezbollah and those supporting its terrorist activities," Adam Szubin, acting Treasury under-secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence, said in a statement.

The US designations were imposed under an executive order issued by former president George W. Bush in the immediate aftermath of the attacks of September 11, 2001.

The men blacklisted by the Treasury included Muhammad al-Mukhtar Kallas and Hasan Jamal-al-Din, purported accountants for Hezbollah financier Adham Husayn Tabaja, as well as Yosef Ayad and Muhammad Ghaleb Hamdar, described as members of Hezbollah’s External Security Organization who were accused of plotting attacks in Thailand and Peru.

Kallas and al-Din worked with Tabaja to move bulk cash shipments between Leb and Iraq and had assisted other Hezbollah members who were already blacklisted, according to the Treasury.

The Treasury also blacklisted the Tabaja-controlled company Global Cleaners, which it said had won sanitation services contracts in Baghdad.

Saudi Arabia designated Kallas, al-Din and Global Cleaners under a local counter-terrorism law, freezing their assets and prohibiting any commercial licenses for the men in the kingdom.

Thus spake a certain Ben Rhodes, literary dabbler and Don DeLillo wannabe, in a stunning interview-essay by David Samuels in the New York Times last May.

...That's why I'm still calling this election for Donald J. Trump. The polls are meaningless. Perceptions are morphing as rapidly as the new-model Terminator in the molten steel vat at the end of the movie. The election will be won and lost a dozen times between now and Election Day. And when Americans finally go into the voting booth, they will not be able to think of any reasons to vote for Hillary Clinton--only reasons to vote against Donald Trump. There are far more compelling reasons to vote against Clinton. And that's how the election will go.
Of course, Spengler called Brexit wrong, so...

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Women Who Attacked Pro-Trump Activist Charged with Assault
[BREITBART] The two women who were briefly jugged
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
in August after assaulting a pro-Trump activist outside of a popular Mexican restaurant in West Hollywood have been charged with assault and battery.

According to Los Angeles Court documents, Kelsey Rae Salem and Jacqueline Raye Johnson were charged and are set to be arraigned in court on Wednesday, where they will formally hear the charges against them. The assault victim was Alaskan artist and pro-Trump activist Tim Treadstone, better known by stage name Baked Alaska, who was rallying in support of Trump in a city from which the Republican presidential nominee is officially "banned."

Pro-Trump lawyer Mike Cernovich, who is advising Treadstone on his legal rights, told Breitbart News, "Under Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, law, they could charge it as a felony or a misdemeanor. I suspect it will be charged as a misdemeanor," Cernovich said. "Legally, they’ll get off relatively easy and likely do community service."

Treadstone told Breitbart News that he had "claw marks" on his neck after one of the women assaulted him. "This blond girl grabbed my iPhone and threw it as hard as she could to the pavement. And before I could pick it up, the brunette who was throwing the food at people punched me in the head. My glasses and my hat flew off," he said.

Earlier, at the rally, anti-Trump passersby threw a can of Monster energy drink, eggs, and dog feces at pro-Trump demonstrators. The can of Monster hit one man on the back.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, a little lightbulb figuratively appeared over Bossy's head...
at the Mexican restaurant, a number of patrons started throwing food at the Trump supporters. "I’ve never seen anything like it," Cernovich, who was also present at the rally, told Breitbart News at the time. "They were throwing nachos and guacamole at us."

At the time, Treadstone had stated, "Justice needs to be served. And we are going to make sure it is with the current laws in place so we ensure this doesn’t happen to other people."

Speaking with Breitbart News this week, Cernovich added, "What these women did was irresponsible and stupid and they should do some sort of community service and write an apology letter to Tim. But they don’t deserve jail time." He also noted that "there has been a lot of violence against Trump supporters. This is one of the many including the latest attack on the GOP office" in North Carolina, which was Molotov cocktailed earlier this week.

Vice Presidential nominee Mike Pence called the Molotov cocktailing an act of "political terror."

A newly-released video by James O’Keefe of Project Veritas shows that Democrats used a method known as "bird-dogging," involving trained provocateurs, to instigate violence at Republican events nationwide throughout the 2016 election cycle, including at several Trump rallies.

"Hillary should call for this to stop," Cernovich said.

Arabia
Iran behind Houthi attacks on navy
Attacks you don't respond to tend to focus your attention.
WASHINGTON: Iran may have played a role in recent Houthi missile attacks against US warships in the Red Sea, a top US general said Wednesday.

Iranian-backed Houthi rebels are believed to be behind a series of incidents this month that saw surface-to-surface missiles fired at the USS Mason on at least two occasions.

In response, US cruise missiles on Oct. 13 struck Houthi radar sites believed to have been used to target the weapons.

“I do think Iran is playing a role in some of this. They have a relationship with the Houtis, so I do suspect there is a role in there,” Gen. Joseph Votel told a Washington think tank.

Votel heads the US military’s Central Command, which oversees operations across the Middle East.

His statement was the most forward leaning so far of a US official in describing Iranian involvement in the missile attacks.

The Houthi missiles either fell short of their targets or were thwarted by US anti-missile defenses.

The Pentagon has described two attacks so far on the Mason or other US warships.

Officials are still analyzing a third possible attack on Saturday to see whether additional missiles were fired.

We “are trying to ... understand this as much as we can, so we can properly attribute what is happening, and understand how these attacks are taking place,” Votel told the Center for American Progress.

“And more importantly, how the decisions are being made to launch these attacks, so we can take action against that.”

The Pentagon has not disclosed the type of missiles the Houthis used, but Votel noted that “some of the technology that we’ve seen there are things that are associated with” Iran.

But “it’s not totally exclusive to them. Certainly there are others that have shore-based missiles and may be moving that in there,” he added.

Meanwhile, clashes killed dozens of fighters across Yemen before a UN-brokered cease-fire was to begin.

At least 30 Houthi rebels and five pro-Hadi fighters died during heavy artillery bombardments near the Red Sea, in Haja province, a loyalist statement said.

Two years' jail for factory clerk in possession of terrorist paraphernalia
[NST.MY] A factory clerk's strong curiosity about terrorist groups and possession of terror-related items has landed her in jail for two years.

Rafidah Juma'at, 26, who was clad in all black, admitted to committing the offence before High Court judge Datuk Mohamad Shariff Abu Samah today.

In his judgement, Mohamad Shariff said even though no evidence proved that the accused has any intention of joining a terror group, keeping books and photos linked to bully boyz shows that the accused is a supporter of terrorists.

"You have to be careful. You have a family and whenever you feel like you want to join in the fight, please remember their faces.

"If you really want to fight, fight for your family members first or for our friends in Baitul Maqdis," Mohamad Shariff said.

He ordered Rafidah's jail sentence to run from the date of her arrest on March 24.

The accused was charged on June 8 at the Seri Manjung magistrate's court in Perak for having in her possession items related to terrorism at a house in Taman Bistari, Air Tawar, on March 24, this year. The terror-related items were linked to murderous Moslem groups Islamic State

"She had no intention of being exposed to the terrorist group... it was just her strong curiosity to know about what was happening.

families of Tirah have said that the recent visit of Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa

Talking to mediapersons at Jamrud Press Club on Thursday, representatives of displaced families of Kukikhel tribe, including Abdur Rehman, Zahirullah and Jamshed Khan, said that millions of rupees were spent on ’useless’ activities in Tirah valley in the name of sports gala while thousands of the displaced families had been awaiting registration since 2012.

They argued that a number of Kukikhel, Sipah and Akkakhel localities of the valley were yet to be de-notified by the security forces while the KP governor was making ’luxury trips’ to the region.

"Thousands of the returned families are awaiting compensation for their damaged houses while the governor announced nominal cash prizes for local sportsmen in the name of promoting so-called healthy activities whereas the entire Tirah valley is without a well-equipped hospital," they stated.

The Kukikhel representatives expressed their astonishment at the inauguration of some development projects in Tirah during the recent visit of the governor and claimed that the same projects were already inaugurated by him during his previous visit in May.

"We need schools, hospitals and drinking water schemes instead of wasting money on festivals," they insisted. They demanded of the Fata Disaster Management Authority and the Khyber Agency

Afghanistan
Taliban Big Turban, 7 others die in drone strike in Parwan
A drone strike carried out by the foreign forces based in Afghanistan targeted a gathering of the Taliban group in northern Parwan province of Afghanistan.

According to the local security officials, the airstrike was carried out late on Wednesday afternoon in Siagerd district.

The officials further added that 8 Taliban insurgents including a commander of the group were killed and several others were wounded in the airstrike.

According to the officials, the militants were planning attacks during the gathering when they were targeted.

The Taliban militants group has not commented regarding the report so far.

The US forces in Afghanistan have stepped up airstrikes against the militant groups during the recent months.

The Obama administration granted broader role to the US forces based in Afghanistan to target the loyalists of the Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) terrorist group as well as the Taliban militants.

The broader role was granted amid deteriorating security situation in the country and following concerns that the militant groups are attempting to expand insurgency in the country.

#9  Read Starship Troopers - lines it out quite clear. The director of the movie openly admits the movie was supposed to be a parody of the book.

In 9th grade, many of my prog peers were chanting great on Athenian Democracy over Republicans! Sounds crazy - to the educated, but it was a catchy phrase. Except, I knew the Dewey Decimal System and could look up such things. Turns out they were cheering for the exact opposite thing they were agitating for, because Catchphrase!

Christian Refugees Facing Persecution in Germany
[FoxNews] The refugees of Christian descent who fled persecution in places like Syria and Northern Iraq are facing different kinds of attacks in Germany.

According to the findings of a new survey from the Christian advocacy group Open Doors USA, religious minorities who seek safe haven in the European nation are finding a general lack of protection. Since February, nearly 800 Christians and Yazidi refugees were attacked by others at the relief centers and camps.

"They are starting to see a different kind of persecution," Emily Fuentes, an official with Open Doors USA, told FoxNews.com. "We normally monitor and rank countries where these incidents occur and typically Western countries do not make the list."

The survey was conducted between February and September of this year in camps near Berlin, Hesse and North Rhine-Westphalia.

The findings showed that nearly half of the respondents said they suffered some sort of injury. Nearly 300 said they received death threats against themselves or their families. Others were sexually assaulted, insulted, discriminated against or subjected to psychological pressure.

Perhaps the most surprising findings- was that nearly a third of the respondents said that most of the discrimination and violence came mostly from refugee camp guards of Muslim descent.

Unexpectedly. Of course there are all the others who never arrived because they found a general lack of protection from some of their Muslim fellows along the way.

The important thing is they have been successfully routed from their rural homes (which they did not build) and placed into large konsentrasiekamp camps. Here, government services can be provided, law and order maintained.

Kufra Salafist brigade kills 13 JEM members near Jaghboub
[Libya Herald] Thirteen members of Sudan’s Dafuri rebel group, the Justice and Equality Movement (JEM), who have been operating in Libya for some months are reported to have been killed today after being attacked by a Salafist militia from Kufra near the oasis town of Jaghboub.

The militia, the Subol Al-Salam brigade, said it also managed to destroy two vehicles belonging to the JEM group. These latter were also alleged to includes a number of Tebus. The Kufra brigade, for its part, is largely made up of members of the Zwai tribe, inveterate foes of the Tebus.

A month ago, the JEM unit reportedly seized and held for ransom four Libyans who were hunting birds – two from Jaghboub, one from Beida and the other from Shahat. It is said to have been paid LD 320,000 to release the four: LD 80,000 each.

The Subol Al-Salam brigade was formed following the clashes in Kufra between Tebus and Zuwais in October 2015 and has become one of the main law enforcement bodies from Kufra to the Bu-Zerag checkpoint some 400 kilometres to the north on the road to Jalu. It controls that checkpoint as well.

Its commander, Abdulrahman Hashim Al-Kilani, is said to be operating in alliance with Field Marshal Khalifa Hafter from whom he reportedly received 40 armoured Toyota vehicles last month.

Presidency Council changes final statement of Libyan Army meeting to please Khalifa Haftar
[Libya Observer] The UN-installed Presidency Council has unilaterally rephrased the final statement of Libyan Army meeting and deleted classification of Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
as war criminal.

Officers of Libyan army regarded renegade General Khalifa Haftar a war criminal at the end of their meeting in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
on Wednesday.

The meeting brought together Libyan Army officers from all regions of Libya.

Classification of Khalifa Haftar as war criminal was announced live on TV, but the UN-installed PC claimed in a statement late at night that the classification of Khalifa Haftar as war criminal was just a rumour and incorrect.

It’s not clear what was the reason behind the deletion of the phrase, but political analysts said Head of the PC Fayaz Sirraj is still in favour of Khalifa Haftar and works secretly to install him in a leading position in the Libyan Army command.

Indonesian police kill man wielding pipe bombs, machetes and IS symbol
[SCMP] Indonesian police rubbed out a man carrying knives, suspected pipe bombs and a symbol of the Islamic State

group after he launched a daylight assault on officers near Jakarta on Thursday, an official said.

The man was shot three times as he stabbed wildly at officers on a busy intersection in Tangerang, a satellite city outside the capital, Jakarta police front man Awi Setiyono said.

Setiyono said the perpetrator threw two suspected pipe bombs at the officers, but neither detonated, and displayed a symbol of the IS group on a nearby traffic pole during the frenzied attack.

Footage broadcast showed the man limping around a busy city road carrying weapons including what appeared to be a pipe bomb. At one point, the footage showed him running toward an officer.

"A man suddenly stuck an IS logo sticker on a traffic police post, took a machete from his bag and blindly attacked our personnel," Setiyono said.

Leipzig leftist club reports sexual attacks by refugees
[DW] The anti-racist, anti-sexist Conne Island Club in Leipzig caused a stir with a statement about sexual violence by refugees. But it was also keen not to align itself with populist racism, Ben Knight reports from Leipzig.

The Conne Island Club has put itself on the margins in more ways than one. The club is hidden from the road, tucked between a narrow river and a highway on the edge of the city's trendy Connewitz district. It also wears its politics on its walls, both inside and out, which are covered with "Antifascist" graffiti and "Refugees Welcome" stickers.

But on October 7, the club's political position became more subtle: it issued a 1,200-word article on its website entitled "One step forward, two steps back," which trod a careful path between the media's two predominant images of Germany over the past year: the applauding "Welcome Culture" volunteer-crowds at Munich train station and the anti-immigrant PEGIDA marches of Saxony.

The club initially aligned itself with the former (partly as an angry response to the racism of the latter), and offered space for integration projects like skateboarding workshops and German courses, while allowing refugees entry for 50 euro-cents ($0.55).

But, according to Conne Island's statement, "sexist advances and physical attacks have occurred more frequently ... in Conne Island and other clubs - with the consequence that female guests have stayed away."

This was a real problem for a place that had, it said, spent the 25 years of its existence fighting for certain principles, which included zero tolerance for "sexist attacks ... or anti-Semitic, racist, or any other type of discriminatory behavior."

Sporadic fighting strains fragile Yemen truce
Scattered clashes between rebels and pro-government forces undermined a fragile ceasefire in Yemen on Thursday as global pressure intensified for a lasting truce in a country where millions are homeless and hungry. The ceasefire, for an initial period of three days,
plus or minus three days...
took effect shortly before midnight on Wednesday under a United Nations plan which aims to allow sorely needed aid to reach suffering civilians.

Coalition spokesman Major General Ahmed Assiri told Al Ekhbariya state television that there had been "a certain number of violations which we are going to prove".

If they continue, he said, the coalition "will take appropriate measures".

Shortly after the truce began, the coalition said it "will abide by the ceasefire", which aims for "distribution of the greatest possible humanitarian and medical assistance" to Yemen's people, especially the besieged city of Taez. It said it will continue an air and maritime embargo, to prevent weapons shipments to the rebels, and will maintain airborne reconnaissance.

The rebels' military spokesman, General Sharaf Lokman, said his forces will respect the ceasefire as long as "the enemy" also abides by it on land, sea and air. However, he urged his fighters to be ready to retaliate against "all aggression".

A spokesman for pro-government forces also declared "respect for the truce" but similarly reserved the right of reply to violations.

‘I Had Nothing to Do With That!’ Obama Dodges Blame For Skyrocketing Premiums
[BREITBART] President Barack Obama
I inhaled. That was the point...
offers multiple excuses for why health insurance premiums continue to skyrocket, including blaming Republicans and insurance companies for the problems.

He complains that too many news hounds spend more time discussing premium increases than explaining why he isn’t responsible for them.

"No, I had nothing to do with that," Obama said, calling it "complicated" despite the "hysteria" that was growing.

Obama traveled to Florida to argue that Obamacare
... aka the Affordable Care Act, an ineptly designed and worse executed piece of legislation designed to bring 17 percent of the U.S. economy under the direct control of the government. The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read...
was working well, but needed to be fixed.

During his speech, he pointed out that when smart phone companies released a product that had bugs in it, they fixed it.

"Unless it catches fire. Then they pull it off the market," he admitted, likely referring to the disastrous exploding Samsung Galaxy S7.

But the president argued that companies weren’t trying to repeal smart phones, but rather fix the problems with the modern devices rather than return to rotary dial up phones.

"We’re not going to go back," Obama said, challenging Republicans who repeatedly called for an Obamacare repeal.

The president argued that most people got their health care from their jobs, insisting that Obamacare didn’t even affect their premiums or health policy changes.

"These are decisions made by your employers, it’s not because of Obamacare," he said.

group from its last major stronghold in northern Iraq.

U.S. officials said the American was fatally maimed near the town of Bashiqa, north of Mosul. He was operating as an explosive ordnance disposal specialist in support of Kurdish Peshmerga fighters who are part of an effort to recapture Mosul that began Monday. The officials spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to publicly discuss details.

The American was in or near a vehicle when he was hit, the officials said. He later died of his wounds. His identity was being withheld pending notification of his family.

He was the fourth U.S. combat death in Iraq since the U.S. began military operations against the Islamic State with Arclight airstrikes in August 2014.

N.Korea's Iron Ore Exports Up Despite UN Sanctions
North Korea's exports of iron ore to China have surged dramatically despite fresh UN Security Council sanctions against the North in April, Voice of America reported Thursday.
China says one thing and does another. I know you're surprised by this...
Quoting data from the Korea International Trade Association, VOA reported that Chinese imports of North Korean iron ore increased 67 percent on-year from April to August. In April, Beijing banned trade of 25 items like iron ore, coal, aviation fuel and rocket fuel with the North.

But it allows import and export of goods necessary for people's livelihood, and the drastic increase in iron ore trade shows how China and the North are taking advantage of loopholes and exceptions.
And the Chinese need for iron ore...
Overall trade of banned items between the two countries, however, dropped 8.1 percent on-year. China's exports of aviation and rocket fuel to the North fell 16 percent.
Rocket fuel?
"The sanctions against the North are kicking in to some extent, but in many cases like the iron ore trade, it's taking advantage of loopholes," a government official here said. "They must be plugged in a fresh round of sanctions that is being discussed at the UNSC."

NSA contractor to face espionage charges for alleged data theft
[REUTERS] Government lawyers on Thursday said they would prosecute a former National Security Agency contractor accused of stealing classified information under an espionage law, a move carrying far more severe penalties than previously announced charges.

Harold Thomas Martin spent over two decades pilfering classified information from multiple government agencies, federal prosecutors said in a new filing made in a U.S. District Court in Baltimore. They expected to bring charges that included violations of the Espionage Act, the filing said.

The amount of stolen data is estimated to be at least fifty terabytes, enough to fill dozens of hard drives, prosecutors said, adding that the alleged criminal conduct "is breathtaking in its longevity and scale." Some officials have said the trove may amount to the largest heist of classified government information in history.

An attorney representing Martin was not immediately available for comment.
"I can say no more!"

Among the material allegedly stolen by Martin included a top secret document that contained "specific operational plans against a known enemy of the United States and its allies," the prosecutors said.

U.S. officials announced in a criminal complaint earlier this month that Martin, 51, was taken into custody in Maryland in August and charged with felony theft of classified government material. It did not allege a motive.

The FBI is investigating possible links between Martin and the leak online this summer of secret NSA hacking tools used to break into the computers of adversaries such as Russia and China, U.S. officials said.

Martin was employed with Booz Allen Hamilton, the same consulting firm that employed Edward Snowden when he gave documents to journalists that exposed NSA surveillance practices in 2013.

Booz Allen said in a statement earlier in October that the company immediately fired Martin when it learned of the FBI's arrest.

Shi’ites’ Protest: Before Another ‘Boko Haram’ Is Created
[LEADERSHIP.NG] The intensification of protest by members of the Islamic Movement in Nigeria (IMN), popularly known as "Shi’ites", which the media has reported to have claimed 16 lives in Kaduna, Katsina, Sokoto and Kano States, is disturbing. As the group continues this fight for the release of their leader, Sheik Ibraheem El-Zakzaky, anyone with historical knowledge of the birth and rise of Boko Haram

’ will agree that the existing situation signals danger.

As we all react in anger to these horrible attacks and boorish protests, we need to also reflect, candidly, on the causes of terrorism, and adopt the best solutions to restore peace to our agitated communities. Analysts have in the past argued that terrorism feeds on poverty and unemployment. I certainly do not buy into this highly publicised link between poverty or unemployment and extremism. By way of example, Haiti and Liberia are countries with eighty per cent (80%) of their population living below poverty line, yet they have not noted cases of extremism terrorism.

Land mine explosion in Sibbi kills two, 9 injured
At least two people were killed and nine were wounded in a land mine explosion in Balochistan's Sibi district on Thursday.

Rooshun warbirds hit ISIS positions in Homs
Homs – Russian warplanes launched on Thursday several airstrikes on ISIS positions in Syria’s central governorate of Homs, killing and wounding a number of militants.

The airstrikes targeted strongholds of the Islamic State’s (ISIS) militants south of the Sha’er Gas Field in the countryside of Homs.

“At least seven ISIS militants were killed and more than a dozen wounded in the Russian air raids on Thursday,” local media activist Amro al-Hussein told ARA News, citing an ISIS source.

Russian fighter jets also targeted ISIS headquarters in the al-Sukhna town and in the vicinity of Huwesis District in eastern Homs, destroying several ISIS machine guns and armoured vehicles.

This comes just three days after an attempt by ISIS fighters to storm a Syrian army base in Huwesis in eastern Homs Governorate. ISIS jihadists softened the fortified base with a protracted bombardment before attempting to infiltrate through the periphery. More than 35 Syrian Army soldiers were reportedly killed and dozens more were wounded, local sources told ARA News.

ISIS has recently brought reinforcements to the eastern countryside of Homs in a bid to protect the Sha’er Gas Field and its remaining positions in the governorate.

National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
n women enslaved by IS have turned themselves in to the Misrata-led forces of al-Bunyan al-Marsoos in Sirte, sources reported.

The sources indicated that the eight women were used as "sex slaves" by the terrorist IS leaders.

"The act of the eight women came in cohesion with the notices dropped from air by the Libyan air force on IS hideouts in Sirte over the last 24 hours." The sources explained.

"IS widows and children who are still in Sirte; we urge you to get out via the coastal road westward and we promise to treat you well." One of the notices reads, according to pictures circulated on social media on Monday.

Other notices called on the families of IS krazed killers, who wish to get out of Sirte, to lay aside their weapons, put their hands in the air once they reach al-Bunyan al-Marsoos forces.

On Sunday, the Misrata-led forces took control of al-Manara neighborhood (Campo) in Sirte, storming into a group of tunnels used for holing up and making ambushes by IS krazed killers. The forces also found a number of burnt IS bodies due to previous Arclight airstrikes.

Rampaging escaped London Zoo gorilla eats five liters of squash
[TELEGRAPH.CO.UK] The 29 stone silverback gorilla whose escape sent London Zoo into lockdown made an "opportunistic" exit through two unlocked doors into a corridor where a keeper was working, the zoo said.

Professor David Field, the ZSL's zoological director, said Kumbuka was kept calm by the member of staff, with whom he is close personal friends had a "close bond".

Armed police were called to the central London attraction and visitors were evacuated when the alarm was raised following the ape's bid for freedom on October 13.

The incursion into the zookeeper area culminated in Kumbuka glugging five litres of undiluted blackcurrant squash,
...not the vegetable, but an English fruit juice-based flavouring generally mixed with water or club soda..
before being tranquillised and moved back to safety, an in-house investigation into the incident said.

Despite the animal's security breach, Professor Field said the whole affair was "less dramatic than some would have you believe".

He added: "I can certainly tell you that there were no broken locks, Kumbuka did not smash any windows, he was never 'on the loose', and his normal gorilla posturing reported by visitors earlier in the day was unrelated to the incident."

Taliban insurgents and militants belonging to the other insurgent groups frequently use Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces but the ordinary civilians are often targeted in such attacks.

This comes as the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan released the latest civilian casualties report late last month which stated at least 3726 civilians were killed or wounded between January and June of this year.

The UN mission said the civilian casualties in the country has reached to a record number since counting began in 2009, with 5,166 civilians recorded killed or maimed in just the first six months of this year, of whom almost one-third were children.

The total civilian casualty figure recorded by the UN between 1 January 2009 and 30 June 2016 has risen to 63,934, including 22,941 deaths and 40,993 injured.

According to the UN mission, the anti-government elements remain responsible for 60 percent of the civilian casualties with ground engagements continuing to cause the highest number of civilian casualties, followed by complex and suicide attacks and improved explosive devices (IEDs).

NATO Providing Air Support to Afghan Forces
NATO's Resolute Support Mission (RS) has said that the U.S forces have participated in more than 20 percent of special operations in Afghanistan, noting that NATO conducted at least 220 air strikes on insurgents' hideouts and safe havens during the current year.

Talking on the impact of foreign air power in the battles, the Afghan Ministry of Defense (MoD) has said that air cooperation by the US forces to their Afghan counterparts has foiled numerous plots by insurgents to takeover some areas across the country.

War against terrorism, backing, advising and training the Afghan security forces are the main duties of U.S forces in Afghanistan within the framework of NATO Resolute Support Mission (RS) in Afghanistan.

"The targeted attacks which are carried out with special concentration in-fact eliminate Taliban's power pole and their strength," said Sediq Sediqqi, spokesman for the MoI.

Afghan security forces have carried out more than 3,000 anti-terror and anti-Taliban operations since the start of the current year with the foreign forces participating in 20 percent of the special operations.

"With the power of our security and defense forces and with the help of air power support of NATO and US forces we managed to defend our freedom, national sovereignty, territorial integrity and collapse of some areas," said Mohammad Radmanish, deputy spokesman to MOD.

This comes at a time that the embattled Afghan security forces have been battling the Taliban on multiple fronts across the country with the Taliban insurgents infiltrating some key towns.

But, the Afghan forces still remain in defensive positions.‎

"They (security forces) try to be in defensive positions and this itself is a big problem to Afghanistan and the people," MP Raihana Azad said.

The Taliban in recent months focused their offensives on at least 25 provinces of Afghanistan with fifteen provinces still being battlegrounds.

Afghan air force launched 108 sortees in 24 hours
The Afghan Air Force (AAF) said Wednesday 108 flights were conducted in the past 24 hours to support the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces (ANDSF).

According to a statement by AAF, at least 14 of the flights were conducted to target the anti-government armed militant and terrorist groups in several provinces.

The statement further added that 22 of flights were conducted to train the Air Force pilots and 72 flights were conducted for the transportation of personnel and cargo.

At least 420 members of the Afghan National Defense and Security Forces were transported along with 25,210 killgrams of cargo, AAF added.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said earlier this year that the Afghan Air Force (AAF) participate in 50 to 180 missions a day to support the Afghan National Security and Defense (ANSDF) forces.

The Afghan Air Force has started the new fighting season with the increased capabilities as several combat planes have been added to the inventory during the past several months.

The Afghan Air Force received several A-29 Super Tucano fixed wing light attack aircraft and MD-530 Cayuse helicopters from the United States as well as surveillance unmanned aerial vehicle which are expected to further boost the capabilities of the Afghan forces.

Afghanistan also received 3 Mi-25 gunship helicopters from India last which are in service with the Afghan Air Force.

Italy to help Somalia hold a peaceful election in 2016
Italy has pledged more support for Somalia especially in the security sector as the east African country is heading towards a crucial parliamentary and presidential elections by the end of this year.
The Somali and Italian elections have one thing in common: they'll elect the same people to office, and just rotate the jobs around a bit...
The announcement was made by the current Italian ambassador to Somalia Carlos Capella, while speaking to reporters at a press conference in Somali capital Mogadishu on Thursday morning.

The Italian ambassador said continued support by the international community was key to stabilizing Somalia and urged partner countries to fast track assistance to the federal government in Mogadishu.

Mr Capella said his government is committed to help Somalia restore peace and defeat Al shabaab fighters who are waging years on insurgency in the country, to unseat the UN-backed federal government.

Islamic Jihad plotted to blow up Israeli wedding hall, kidnap IDF soldier
[Jpost] Four men indicted for planning attacks under the instruction of a senior Islamic Jihad official in Gazoo.

Security services announced on Thursday that they had thwarted an Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. They worked out of Gaza until they were exiled to Lebanon in 1987, where they clove tightly to Hezbollah. In 1989 they moved to Damascus, where they remain a subsidiary of Hezbollah...
plot to attack a wedding hall in the South and to kidnap and kill a soldier for the purposes of bargaining with Israel.

Mahmoud Yusef Hassin Abu Taha, a resident of Khan Yunis in the southern Gazoo Strip, was tossed in the calaboose
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
last month while entering Israel through the Erez crossing, ostensibly for purposes of commerce.

Abu Taha was enlisted by Wael Sufian Abu Taha, a senior Islamic Jihad official in Gazoo, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) said. He instructed Mahmoud to form a cell in order to carry out a terrorist attack in the South and to kidnap a soldier to be used in a prisoner swap, the agency said.

The three men whom Mahmoud enlisted to help him with the attacks were also arrested.

One of the suspects, Shafik Hamed Ahmed Abu Taha, 55, was illegally residing in Israel and was an employee of the wedding hall that the cell planned to attack. A second suspect, Ahmed Tisir Abdulrahman Abu Taha, 39, from Gazoo, was also illegally residing in Israel. A third suspect, a 40-year-old from Deir el-Balah in central Gazoo, was living in southern Israel legally after having gained residency through marriage by way of the "family reunification" law.

The suspects had carried out reconnaissance at the wedding hall, devising a plan they hoped would kill as many people as possible, the Shin Bet said.

At the same time, Mahmoud began planning the kidnapping, receiving thousands of shekels from Wael Abu Taha in order to rent an apartment in Israel to which he planned to lure a soldier.

According to the Shin Bet, Mahmoud planned to kill the soldier, bury him and send his belongings back to Gazoo to use as bargaining chips with Israel.

"This grave affair yet again exhibits the efforts of terrorist elements in Gazoo to carry out murderous terrorist attacks in Israel," the agency said.

The affair also shows the way in which bandidos forces of Evil take advantage of entry permits to Israel, given for humanitarian porpoises to improve the economy of Gazoo, the Shin Bet said.

In addition, the plot shows the danger posed by Paleostinians illegally residing in Israel, the agency warned.

In May, Islamic Jihad in Gazoo released a propaganda video threatening IDF soldiers in response to the recent "Israeli escalation" in the Strip. The minute-and-a-half video, titled, "We Will Show You a Shadow of Fear," presents four fighters in Islamic Jihad’s Quds Brigades conducting observation of IDF jeep stationed behind Israel’s border with the Gazoo Strip and preparing to fired Sager rockets at the vehicle. Although the fighters did not attack the jeep, the video ends with a message translated to Hebrew: "We will show you a shadow of fear."

Interior minister to revoke residency of 3rd wedding hall plotter

[IsraelTimes] Interior Minister Aryeh Deri announced Thursday that he will revoke the residency permit of a Gazoo man indicted for being part of a terror plot.

Hani M’suad Nasir Abu Amrah, 40, a Gazook who has lived in the southern Israeli town of Tel Sheva for the past 16 years after being granted Israeli citizenship under the family reunification program, was one of four members of a terror cell that allegedly planned to carry out a terror attack at a wedding hall and also kidnap and kill an IDF soldier to use his remains as a bargaining chip against Israel.

Family reunification in Israel typically involves an Israeli citizen requesting citizenship for his or her non-Israeli spouse. Most unification applications are submitted by Israeli Arabs on behalf of a Paleostinian spouse living in the West Bank or the Gazoo Strip.

The terror cell consisted of three other men from the Gazoo Strip, two of whom were residing in Israel illegally, including one who worked at the targeted wedding venue, the Shin Bet security agency revealed Thursday. Southern state prosecutors filed indictments against the men at the Beersheba District Court Thursday.

Deri said Abu Amrah’s residency permit would be revoked, adding that he would fight "seriously and uncompromisingly" against "situations whereby residents take advantage of their status to try and carry out a terror attack and kill Israeli citizens."

"I will take all legal steps and measures against those who wish to commit terror," Deri said.

The process of family reunification for Paleostinians has been suspended in recent years due to concerns it was being abused by terror groups to gain access to Israel.

Palestinian throws rocks at IDF jeep, gets himself killed

[Ynet] After throwing rocks at an IDF patrol vehicle, a Paleostinian was killed by IDF fire on Thursday, north of Hebron. The rock throwers continued pummeling the soldiers even after the soldiers stopped and left their vehicle and yelled at the Paleostinians to stop.

The event took place south of Gush Etzion Junction at a spot known for such altercations. As a result of the current rock throwing, one soldier was lightly injured, though he did not need to be evacuated for treatment.

Upon leaving their vehicle, the soldiers commenced with the rules of engagement toward the rock throwers, and after shooting a warning shot in the air, they opened fire on their attackers, killing one of them.

LGBT Group Threatens Johns Hopkins Over Report That Science Doesn't Show People Are Born Gay, Transgender
[ChristianPost] The Human Rights Campaign, America's largest national lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender and queer civil rights organization, has threatened to penalize
Interesting word choice.
Johns Hopkins University if it does not denounce a report from two of the institution's scholars which concludes that there is little scientific evidence that people are born gay or transgender.

In the special report for The New Atlantis titled Sexuality and Gender: Findings from the Biological, Psychological, and Social Sciences, Dr. Lawrence S. Mayer, a scholar in residence at Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine and Dr. Paul McHugh, professor of psychiatry and behavioral sciences also at John Hopkins School of Medicine conclude there is very little evidence supporting the "born that way" and other theories on sexual orientation.

"Some of the most widely held views about sexual orientation, such as the 'born that way' hypothesis, simply are not supported by science. The literature in this area does describe a small ensemble of biological differences between non-heterosexuals and heterosexuals, but those biological differences are not sufficient to predict sexual orientation, the ultimate test of any scientific finding," the report said. "The strongest statement that science offers to explain sexual orientation is that some biological factors appear, to an unknown extent, to predispose some individuals to a non-heterosexual orientation."

When it comes to transgenderism, the study explained the phenomenon is even more complex.

Venezuela congressional probe says $11 billion missing at PDVSA
[REUTERS] A report by a Venezuelan congressional commission accused Petroleos de Venezuela (PDVSA) [PDVSA.UL] of corruption on Wednesday, saying about $11 billion in funds went missing from the state-run oil company while Rafael Ramirez was at the helm from 2004-14.
It's been reported previously that Maria Gabriela Chavez, 35 and Hugo's daughter, has $4.2 billion in assets held in American and Andorran banks. Perhaps that estimate was low?
"It is more than the (annual) budget of five Central American countries," said Freddy Guevara, comptroller commission president and a member of one of Venezuela's hardline opposition parties, alleging widespread malfeasance at the state oil producer.

"We're talking about $11 billion they cannot justify," he added, as he presented a report by the legislative body that audits the state.

PDVSA, which manages the world's largest oil reserves, brings in about 95 percent of Venezuela's export revenues and has been the country's financial engine during 17 years of leftist rule in the OPEC member nation.

Critics have long accused PDVSA of corruption, but the company has maintained it is the target of a right-wing smear campaign, led by the United States and compliant international media, to sabotage socialism.

Neither PDVSA nor Ramirez, currently Venezuela's United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
envoy, responded immediately to requests for comment on the report by the commission headed by Guevara.

Venezuela is engulfed in a protracted economic crisis exacerbated since 2014 by a sharp decline in world oil prices.

Raising the specter of default, cash-strapped PDVSA said on Monday it "could be difficult" to pay large looming debt commitments if a proposed $5.3 billion bond swap does not go through.

Shin Bet: Arab-Israeli couple arrested for joining Islamic State in Iraq
[Jpost] Sakhnin couple locked away
You have the right to remain silent...
in September following long-winded return from Iraq with their three children, the Shin Bet announces Thursday.

Security forces have arrested an Arab-Israeli couple accused of joining the terrorist group Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Iraq, the Shin Bet (Israel Security Agency) announced Thursday.

The couple, Wisam and Sabrin Zabeidat from the northern city of Sakhnin, were arrested at Tel Aviv's Ben-Gurion Airport on September 22 following their return from Iraq with their three children.

According to a statement released by the Shin Bet, the couple had traveled to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
for a family event with their three children, aged eight, six and three. From there, they made contact with another Arab-Israeli who had joined ISIS in 2013 and then helped the Zabeidats cross the border into Syria.

The family was recruited by ISIS near the Syria-Turkey border and their Israeli passports were confiscated, according to the Shin Bet release.

At one point, Wisam Zabeidat was separated from his family and sent to Iraq for further training and ideological indoctrination.

According to the Shin Bet, investigations revealed that the couple had decided to try to return to Israel in June in light of the worsening situation in the Iraqi city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
According to details of the investigation, the family had needed to pay thousands of dollars to border smugglers in attempt to return to Israel. The family had allegedly failed in multiple long-winded attempts to cross the border between Syria and Turkey.

After eventually entering Turkish territory however, the couple was arrested by Turkish police and placed in a detention camp. Days later, Turkish authorities released the family members who then traveled back to Israel, where they were again arrested.

The couple told Sherlocks that ISIS media and video propaganda had led to their interest in the terrorist group. On Thursday, the couple was indicted in Haifa for departing to an enemy country and joining the terrorist organization.

Europe
Italian Parliament Weighs New Tanks, Helicopters
Hat tip Instapundit. Why are the Italians arming up? They need to. These purchases, however, are replacements for equipment that is being retired.
The Italian army is a step closer to acquiring new tanks and assault helicopters after plans for the purchases were submitted for parliamentary approval.

On Oct. 11 the defense commission of the lower house of the Italian parliament began debating plans by the Italian military to buy the Centauro II tank and an updated version of its A-129 Mangusta helicopter. The Centauro II is a wheeled tank which boasts improvements on the Centauro tank already in service with the Italian army.

Built by a joint venture of Italian firms Leonardo-Finmeccanica and Iveco, the Centauro II has superior armor to the first Centauro, a 120mm gun (compared to the 105mm gun on the original) and a more powerful, 720 horsepower engine.

The Italian army is meanwhile building up its fleet of Freccia, or VBM, armored vehicles, which will form the basis of new brigades and which first entered service in 2009 before being deployed to Afghanistan.

The documents submitted to parliament said the original Centauro was too old to operate alongside the Freccia — which is designed with net-centric operations in mind — “because it does not have the same minimum requirements for safety, force protection, technology and interoperability.”

The new tank order was accompanied in the purchase request by a plan for the launch of a new “Exploration and Escort Helicopter” program, which will see the development of a replacement for Italy’s army A129 Mangusta helicopter, which will start to be retired from service in 2020.

Built by Italy’s AgustaWestland, now known by the name Leonardo-Finmeccanica, the Mangusta first entered service during Italy’s 1990s peacekeeping mission in Somalia. Designed to fly three-hour missions, the new aircraft will offer a 20mm cannon, 70mm rockets and Spike air-to-ground missiles, with a 1,400 kg payload that may rise to 1,600 kg, according to the documents.

The new Mangusta would also feature satellite communications and Link 16.

In a planning document issued in 2015, the Army said it wanted a new Mangusta to be able to control UAVs and be able to operate better in hot and high conditions. Planned to be a viable assault helicopter for the next 30 years, the new model would have performance and payloads “decisively superior” to the current Mangusta and be at least as good as “the best performing helicopters in its category”, the new document stated.

The Army currently has 48 Mangustas flying, of which 32 have been upgraded from the original spec, while 16 are used for training. The helicopter was flown in Afghanistan.

#3  A tank, by definition, should be able to withstand a (some) first-round hit. If it isn't too big a round.
A tank destroyer is a tank which can't withstand a hit by anything larger than, say, a fitty-cal. You save on some armor, the cheapest part, and get some additional mobility plus an incremental increase in what will transport the thing--maybe.
Then, when the local commander is scratching around for armor, he can have five TDs, 'cuz that's what they have instead of four MBT. That's okay if you're in the defense and have lots of terrain to hide in and wait for the enemy armor to come into view. Lousy arrangement for the assault. But a TD means one less tank. The best TD is a good tank.

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – The al-Hashed al-Shaabi militia’s press office announced on Thursday that a senior ISIS leader was killed by an Iraqi Army’s air strike in Nineveh province.

Al-Hashed al-Shaabi press office said in a statement, “Today, the Iraqi Army’s air force bombarded one of the ISIS strongholds in the village of Tel al-Sheer in Nineveh Province, killing the ISIS leader Aziz Ali.”

“The Army’s air force bombarded the stronghold based on accurate intelligence,” the statement added.

The joint security forces, backed by the Army and international coalition air force, continue their progress in the battle to liberate Mosul city from the control of the ISIS.

The ISIS took over the city of Mosul in Nineveh province in the tenth of June 2014, before extending its terrorist activities to other areas in Iraq, and committing many violations, genocides and crimes against humanity.

Kurds capture 15 more villages near Mosul

[ARA News] Erbil – Iraqi Kurdistan’s Peshmerga forces liberated on Thursday 15 more villages from militants of the Islamic State (ISIS) as part of the ongoing battle for Mosul.

The Kurdish Peshmergas continued their progress against ISIS militants in the northeastern countryside of Mosul during the fourth day of an extensive operation aimed at retaking Mosul from ISIS.

“Backed by an air cover from the US-led coalition, the Kurdish forces expelled Daesh terrorists from 15 more villages on Thursday,” a Peshmerga officer told ARA News, using another acronym for ISIS.

The Kurdish Peshmerga have taken the lead in the battle for Mosul. On Monday, they pushed Islamic State (ISIS) militants out of nine villages in an area measuring approximately 200 square kilometres, and extended their control over the Erbil-Mosul road.

“Our forces have liberated 24 villages since the start of the Mosul operation,” the Peshmerga official said.

“With the Kurdish forces advancing towards Mosul from the northeast and the Iraqi Army from the south, the process of liberating Mosul countryside may not take too long, especially that Daesh is more focused on maintaining the city,” he told ARA News. “But the military campaign will continue until we liberate entire Mosul from the terrorist group.”

#1  ISIS staged a spoiling attack in Kirkuk proper early this morning and stopped the Mosul offensive in its tracks for now. It appears that some ISIS fighters may have infiltrated into the city with the "displaced person" refugee crowd. They hit schools, prisons and power plants. It will take awhile to dig them out.

Syrian Army Urges Aleppo Evacuation as Russia Extends Truce
[An Nahar] A "humanitarian pause" in the Syrian army's Russian-backed assault on Aleppo took effect Thursday, but despite a drop in violence there was little sign residents were heeding calls to leave.

Moscow said the truce would be extended by 24 hours, and the U.N. said it hoped to carry out the first medical evacuations from Aleppo on Friday, after getting clearance from all warring parties.

Despite the lull, NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...
chief Jens Stoltenberg expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
that a Russian aircraft carrier battlegroup, on its way from the North Sea and currently off the coast of Britannia, could join attacks on Aleppo.

The unilateral ceasefire began at 8:00 am (0500 GMT) with the aim of allowing civilians and fighters to evacuate the city's opposition-controlled east.

Shortly after the pause began, gunfire and artillery exchanges erupted around one crossing point, with state news agency SANA saying "terrorist groups" had targeted the area "in an attempt to hinder the humanitarian pause".

But by afternoon, the festivities had subsided and the east was calm, though the streets were empty.

The truce was initially described as lasting just 11 hours, but Russia's Defense Minister Sergei Shoigu announced Thursday afternoon it would be extended.

"A decision was made to extend the 'humanitarian pause' by 24 hours," he said in a statement, leaving unclear exactly when the truce was now scheduled to end.

He also announced that the Admiral Kuznetsov carrier, part of its Northern Fleet, would be sent to the eastern Mediterranean to boost Russian naval forces in the area.

Reacting to the deployment, Stoltenberg said: "We are concerned Russia's carrier group will support military operations in Syria in ways which increase human and civilian suffering.

Around Aleppo on Thursday, Syrian soldiers were calling through loudspeakers for residents to "seize the chance" to evacuate.

Russia announced the ceasefire earlier this week, amid growing international pressure over its support for Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Horror of Homs...
's campaign to recapture the city.

More than 300,000 people have been killed since Syria's conflict began in March 2011, and the violence in Aleppo has been described as some of the worst of the war.

Pudgy Ordered 64 Public Executions This Year
North Korea is experiencing growing unrest amid leader Kim Jong-un's reign of terror, the National Intelligence Service here said Wednesday. NIS chief Lee Byung-ho told lawmakers during a National Assembly audit of the spy agency that Suet Face Kim has resumed his purges and 64 people have been publicly executed so far this year.

Since Pudgy Kim took power in late 2011, he has executed more than 100 high-level officials.

"The main reason behind most of Fat Boy Kim Jong-un's vicious purges is his perception that he had been snubbed," an intelligence source said. "Any apparent sign of wavering loyalty or nonchalance by officials agitated Kim's inferiority complex due to his young age."
Fat boy with a tiny schwanstücker feels disrespected? Say it ain't so!
Lee said the North's security and intelligence agencies, which are in charge of monitoring dissent, "are now just intent on making money. There were incidents in some parts of North Korea where residents stormed the regional offices of the Workers Party to protest after electricity and water supplies were halted."

The NIS chief said rising public discontent has increased the number of defections by around 20 percent this year.

The NIS estimates that North Korea suffered a US$200 million decline in hard currency earnings after a UN Security Council resolution in March. Pyongyang has seen commercial transactions shrink by half due to the losses. Prices of the city's signature cold noodles dropped by 50 percent, but there are still no takers.

Yet the regime spent nearly $200 million testing nuclear weapons and firing missiles to flaunt its defiance, and another $200 million on luxury vehicles, a helicopter and thorough-bred horses.

As sanctions against North Korea continue, the coffers of Room 39, which manages Kim's slush funds, are drying up, the NIS said citing accounts.

North Korea is desperately flogging fishing rights to China. Some 2,200 Chinese trawlers operate in North Korean waters, up two-fold compared to previous years, and the North made an $58 million from selling fishing rights, up 50 percent compared to previous years, the NIS said.

Recent floods in North Korea exacerbated discontent. "Floods in North Hamgyong Province were caused by dams suddenly opening their gates due to heavy rainfall," Lee said. "It's an unprecedented disaster, but North Korea got only around $17.5 million in aid from the international community due to its nuclear provocations."

Jumblat Says Hariri Committing Suicide
[An Nahar] Head of the Democratic Gathering parliamentary bloc MP Walid Wally Jumblat
... Druze politician, head of the Progressive Socialist Party, who's been on every side in Leb at least four times. He'll sell you his friends for a dollar, but family comes higher because of shipping and handling...
is expected to call his bloc for a meeting on Saturday for talks on the latest developments as for the presidential file, as he believes that Hariri is committing suicide shall he nominate MP Michel Aoun
...a wholly-owned subsidiary of Hizbullah...
for the post, al-Akhbar daily reported on Thursday.

Democratic Gathering MPs quoted Jumblat as saying that he "understands" Speaker Nabih Knobby Berri
Speaker of the Lebanese parliament, a member of AMAL, a not very subtle Hizbullah sock puppet...
's reservation on the way in which Aoun's name was put forward by al-Mustaqbal
... the Future Movement, political party led by Saad Hariri...
Movement chief Saad Hariri
Second son of Rafik Hariri, the Leb PM who was assassinated in 2005. He has was prime minister in his own right from 2009 through early 2011. He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too.
Jumblat believes that "Hariri has acted improperly with Berri. He let him down," as he pointed out that "the problem does not lie in Aoun's election but in the process post-elections."

He asked: "Is the (former) PM (Hariri) aware of the negative aspects of his decision if Aoun was elected and Speaker Berri decides to boycott the government? Will Hariri then form a government composed solely of Hizbullah

ministers which is rated by Hariri's allies in the Gulf as terrorist? Is he going to form a government with terrorists?"

Sources to Jumblat quoted him as saying that "head of Mustaqbal is committing suicide because no one will be subject to problems like him."

As for the decision of the PSP leader, Jumblat, on Aoun's nomination, the sources said that he is still hesitant.

If a comprehensive national agreement on Aoun was not reached in Jumblat's bloc when the election session is due, it is likely for PSP leader to let his bloc's partisan MPs vote for Aoun leaving freedom of choice for non-partisan deputies, concluded the sources.

Arabia
Soddys slam Houthi escalation
WASHINGTON: Saudi Foreign Minister Adel Al-Jubeir on Thursday accused Yemen’s Houthi militias of stepping up their attacks Thursday and of putting in danger a day-old UN-mandated cease-fire.

Jubeir told reporters in Washington that Saudi Arabia reserves the right to defend itself from further Houthi attacks, but stopped short of declaring the truce a failure.

Earlier Thursday, the Saudi-led coalition accused Yemeni rebels of repeatedly breaching a cease-fire on the first day of a truce under global pressure to end a war which has killed thousands.

At least 11 people were killed in sporadic clashes between rebels and pro-government forces, despite all sides insisting they will pause the fighting.

The truce, for an initial period of three days, took effect just before midnight on Wednesday to allow sorely needed aid deliveries in Yemen where the conflict has also left millions homeless and hungry.

The Saudi-led Arab coalition intervened in March 2015 to support the government of President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi after Houthi rebels overran much of the impoverished country on the southern tip of the Arabian Peninsula.

Five previous truce attempts failed but cautious optimism preceded the current pause after intensified international pressure following an escalation of combat.

But Maj. Gen. Ahmed Assiri, the coalition spokesman, told AFP, “there is no cease-fire at all” because of repeated rebel breaches.

“This is the same situation as the previous time when we called for a cease-fire,” Assiri said.

Saudi Arabia and Washington accuse Iran of arming the Shiite Houthi insurgents allied with forces loyal to ex-president Ali Abdullah Saleh.

Tehran denies the charges and the conflict has stoked tensions between the rival Middle East powers.

The coalition and Hadi both vowed to abide by the cease-fire despite alleged violations by the rebels.

Pro-government forces declared “respect for the truce” but reserved the right to respond to infractions.

The rebels said they would respect the cease-fire as long as “the enemy” abides by it, but urged their fighters to be ready to retaliate against “all aggression.”

Embargo to continue
The coalition says it will continue an air and maritime embargo, to prevent weapons shipments to the rebels, and maintains airborne reconnaissance.

Residents in rebel-held Sanaa claimed that coalition aircraft flew twice over the rebel-held capital without conducting raids, according to residents, who said they have had enough of failed cease-fires.

Assiri denied that any air strikes took place over Yemen, although coalition warplanes carried out surveillance.

He said a Patriot missile shot down a missile fired by rebels in Marib, east of the capital Sanaa.

Five pro-government fighters were killed in two rebel attacks in Saada and Haja provinces, according to loyalist forces, while three rebels were said to have died in attacks in the Red Sea province of Hodeida.

A man and his daughter were wounded in a cross-border attack from Yemen on the kingdom’s Jazan region, Saudi civil defense authorities said.

Assiri said coalition artillery and aircraft retaliated.

AG Loretta Lynch: 'I Have Seen Firsthand How Corruption...Is About Breaking Trust'
[CNSNEWS] Speaking in Rome, Italia on Thursday, Attorney General Loretta Lynch told a group of leaders and law enforcement officials that "fighting corruption in all of its forms" is a vital mission of the U.S. Justice Department.

"And like many of you, I have seen firsthand how corruption, at bottom, is about breaking trust. It is about undermining citizens’ belief in their elected officials. It is about betraying the people’s faith that when public monies are spent on services for citizens ‐ from infrastructure to education ‐ none of those funds will be misappropriated for selfish ends.

"And it is about poisoning the civic spirit of a people ‐ displacing passion with cynicism, and solidarity with suspicion. And that is why the U.S. Department of Justice has made it a priority to root out, prosecute, and prevent corruption."

Lynch continued: "What is at stake is not just a sum of money or a single contract: it is the public’s trust that one set of rules apply to all of its members, that we have ordered our markets and our governmental institutions in a fundamentally fair manner, and that our societies will uphold and respect the rule of law.

"I am proud to say that with the help of our domestic and international partners, we are working tirelessly to detect corruption and bring wrongdoers to justice ‐ no matter how powerful the actors, no matter how complex the crimes, and no matter where the crimes take place."

Lynch, a former federal prosecutor, drew sharp criticism in late June, after confirming that she met privately with former President Bill Clinton
...former Democratic president of the U.S. Bill was the second U.S. president to be impeached, the first to deny that oral sex was sex, the first to have difficulty with the definition of is...
at an Arizona airport, at a time when the FBI (part of the Justice Department) was investigating Clinton's wife Hillary for her handling of classified information. Lynch at the time was the person who would sign off on that investigation.

Britain
Behind the scenes of the flawed campaign to keep the UK in the EU
Long but worthy article. The last paragraphs are the BLUF:
Could we ever have won the referendum? We lost by a serious margin. Outside of London, Scotland and Northern Ireland, every major region in the country voted to leave the EU. A recent analysis by the London School of Economics suggests that once methodological artifacts are controlled, Leave was almost certainly ahead of Remain during the entire last month of the campaign — and maybe during all of 2016. At the same time the margin of victory was not so large as to in hindsight appear completely unbridgeable.

To be sure, it would certainly have been extraordinary if we did win. Britain has a long history of Euroskepticism, and these are populist times, in which voters are ready to reject the status quo. It also has to be said that we faced an extraordinarily hostile media. Team Cameron was used to having the main broadsheets and key tabloids on its side. We weren’t used to a campaign where we could land next to nothing in the newspapers because of their Euroskeptic viewpoints and had to contend with a BBC position on impartiality that was bordering on the absurd. We kept trying to win the 6 and 10 o’clock news with big stories but with little success.

Winning would have required a much greater effort, much earlier on, to sway the electorate. One more attack on Boris Johnson, or another speech by Cameron would not have been enough. There were loads of things in hindsight that we should have done — such as deploy Ruth Davidson and Sadiq Khan much earlier or have gotten Cameron out on the road earlier — but I doubt they would have been critical. And while all of Cooper’s focus groups said it was a head (economics) vs heart (immigration) contest, it was a mistake not to attempt to engage emotionally. We may never have been able to win those arguments but we should not have vacated the ground entirely.

But our biggest mistake was our failure to deliver the kind of deal we — and especially the media — had given the impression was possible. From the moment Cameron promised a referendum we should have built up the case for European cooperation, preparing the electoral battlefield we would eventually have to fight on. We didn’t. And so a better organized, more passionate adversary won.

#2  I'm just an engineer, not an economist. I think I understand the lower pound will bring in more tourists, since the incredibly high cost of living is lower if you have other currency. I appreciate that it makes imports more expensive. But what effect does it have on things made or grown in Britain (assuming there are any of those things left)? What effect does it have on the middle class?

#3  But what effect does it have on things made or grown in Britain

It's only a niche hobby market, but among my fellow participants in it, the opportunity to buy cheap is causing a lot of purchases that would have been timely deferred or passed up otherwise. Those British 'shopkeepers' though small in relative enterprise, are probably happy.

What effect does it have on the middle class?

Brits define 'middle class' different than Americans. We'd consider the 'shop keeper' middle class, the Brits probably not.

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edtion

ISIS attempt to calm troops following coup plot
Now called al-Baghdadi Bob
(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Iraqi media outlets reported on Thursday that ISIS media launched a vast campaign to reassure its fighters and supporters about the presence of its leader, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, in the city of Mosul after a failed coup attempt against him.

Al Sumaria News stated, “ISIS media began a campaign to assure its fighters and supporters that Baghdadi would not leave Mosul, and denied any news regarding his escape to the Syrian city of Raqqa,” adding that, “ISIS propaganda did not provide any evidence that Baghdadi is still in Mosul, and this raised serious doubts among its fighters and supporters, who suffer from low morale.”

For the first time, ISIS media acknowledged the recent coup attempt against its leader and how the group was able to foil it.

“ISIS foiled the coup of its “Islamic Police” against its leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, and executed the coup leader, along with other ISIS members in some areas of central Mosul,” Al Sumaria added.

Earlier this week some members of ISIS announced through loudspeakers in Mosul that al-Baghdadi fled to the Syrian city of Raqqa and that his wife was arrested.

Mosul rebels threaten Bad Guys using leaflets

(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Rebel detachments pasted threatening leaflets on the houses of ISIS militants in the city of Mosul, Al Sumaria reported on Thursday.

Al Sumaria News stated, “Detachments of rebels pasted leaflets on the houses of ISIS militants, at a late hour yesterday, in a number of neighborhoods in Mosul,” and that “These rebels vowed through the leaflets to avenge martyrs.”

“These leaflets consider as another evidence on the rising popular resistance against ISIS in Mosul,” Al Sumaria added.

Two days ago, Mosul started to show signs of a popular armed uprising against the Islamic State, where a group of armed rebellious residents attacked a headquarters of ISIS and destroyed six patrols in less than five hours in the city.

ISIS forces Mosul residents to donate money to support Kalifate
Or what we call taxes
(IraqiNews.com) Nineveh – Iraqi media outlets announced on Thursday, that ISIS launched a large fundraising campaign to support its “Caliphate State” in the battles of Mosul and forced Mosul residents to donate their money to support this cause.

Al Sumaria News stated, “Today, ISIS launched the largest fundraising campaign, and forced the people of Mosul to donate their money to support the ‘Caliphate State’ in the battles against the government forces and other security forces.”

“The donations were coerced through threat of violence or severe pressure,” Al Sumaria added. “A significant rejection and resentment rose among the residents,” Al Sumaria explained.

ISIS has suffered from a severe financial crisis for months due to the loss of most of its major funding sources, including oil fields.

Two of the freed foreigners were from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

, two from India and one from Bangladesh, said Rida Issa, a front man for the Bonyan Marsous forces which have been battling for six months against gunnies in Sirte.

"There was a desperate resistance by ISIS, but it was confronted by heavy weapons," Issa said, using one of the Arabic names for Islamic State.

, have been leading the battle to oust Islamic State from Sirte, helped since August by U.S. air strikes and small teams of Western special forces.

But they have been facing fierce resistance from snipers, boom-mobiles and booby-traps as Islamic State fighters dig in for house-to-house fighting in the last residential districts held by the bully boy group.

On Thursday, pro-government forces killed at least 20 Islamic State fighters as they pushed into the 600 District of Sirte, one of the last held by gunnies who control an area now less than one square kilometer, local officials said.

After facing heavy casualties at the start of the campaign, Misrata forces have increasingly turned to the use of tanks and armed vehicles to clear a path for ground troops.

No details were given about how or where the five foreigners where captured, but Islamic State has attacked oilfields and kidnapped foreign workers over the last two years.

#1  "There was a desperate resistance by ISIS, but it was confronted by heavy weapons"

I've often wondered if the militias face the problem of running out of munitions. Then I remember the problem is often self-solving*.

* To paraphrase a line out of "Fistful of Dollars": "Crazy muezzin was right. There's money to be made in these parts."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russian Navy maneuvers in English channel today
Great images of Russian and Brit naval ships and aircraft at the link. Worth it for that alone if you like that sort of thing.
ROYAL Navy warships will “man-mark” a menacing Russia fleet that is preparing a pincer move on the English Channel, the MoD has said.

Eight Russian vessels led by a aircraft carrier are heading down the North Sea and are expected to pass through the Dover Straits tomorrow morning. And they are expected to link up with two more ships there, meaning TEN heavily-armed Russian ships will be operating just miles from the British coast.

The drills are being observed by both the Royal Navy and a Norwegian vessel as they head down the North Sea. The Russian Northern Fleet is being stalked by two British warships, while two corvettes heading to Britain through the Bay of Biscay are being tracked by HMS Dragon.

#8  Interesting that only the Brits went out to shadow the squadron. Where are the French, Belgian, Spanish, Swedish etc ships? The EU navies are invisible. The real story is the underwater traffic jam as half a dozen subs trailing the flotilla try to avoid running into one another
