Posted by: M. Murcek || 10/18/2018 10:59 Comments || Top||

#5  In the National Guard, it depends on whether you are Title 10 activated or not. Posse Comitatus applies when its a Title 10 (Federal) activation. But dual or State activation PC does not apply, and Guard can do law enforcement - which is what happened during Katrina, with out of state Guard units carrying live rounds and patrolling for looters.

But Posse Comitatus only applies to enforcement of "Domestic" laws, so, arguably, border security is "international", not domestic. There is precedent: Exceptions exist for the Enforcement of federal law at the discretion of the President of the United States, such as with the 101st Airborne Division by President Dwight D. Eisenhower to integrate Little Rock Central High School in 1957, and for ISR activity for the DEA, DHS and counterterr activity.

US CO2 Emissions plummet under Trump. Rest of the world rises and misses goals.
But it doesn't count if the government takeover and socialization of everything didn't do it.
[DailyCaller] Greenhouse gas emissions continued to plummet during President Donald Trump's first year in office, according to new Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) data.

Based on data from more than 8,000 large facilities, EPA found greenhouse gas emissions, mostly carbon dioxide, fell 2.7 percent from 2016 to 2017. Emissions from large power plants fell 4.5 percent from 2016 levels, according to EPA.

"Thanks to President Trump's regulatory reform agenda, the economy is booming, energy production is surging, and we are reducing greenhouse gas emissions from major industrial sources," EPA acting Administrator Andrew Wheeler said in a statement.

Earlier this year, the Energy Information Administration reported that per-capita greenhouse gas emissions hit a 67-year low during Trump's first year in office.

EPA's new data follows news that, globally, greenhouse gas emissions are set to rise to historic highs by the end of the year, despite nearly 200 countries signing the Paris climate accord. Global greenhouse gas emissions also rose in 2017.
Proof the Paris accord is crap.
China is the main culprit behind rising emissions, but India and other developing countries contribute. However, recent reports have detailed how European countries aren't on track to meet their own emissions reduction goals.

A recent report from the Climate Action Network Europe found that emissions cuts among most European Union members were "nowhere close enough" to meet the goals of the Paris accord. Trump pledged to withdraw from the Paris accord at the earliest possibility, in 2020.

On the flip side, the U.S. led the world in emissions cuts for the ninth time this century, according to the oil giant BP&
p's annual energy statistics. BP reported that European Union "emissions were also up (1.5%) with just Spain accounting for 44% of the increase.

German and French emissions increased 0.1 and 2 percent, respectively, last year, BP reported, while the "UK and Denmark reported the lowest carbon emissions in their history."

Long held up as a poster child for fighting global warming, Germany is on track to miss its 2020 emissions targets. The government will likely instead push its goal of cutting CO2 emissions back to 2030.

John Brennan Claims The WH and Sauds Are Working Together 'To Concoct Story' About What Happened to Khashoggi
[Daily Caller] Former CIA Director John Brennan, during an interview on MSNBC Wednesday night, claimed the White House and the Saudis are working together to "concoct a story" about what happened to Washington Post journalist Jamal Khashoggi, and urged Congress to "hold the administration’s feet to the fire."

In an interview discussing the disappearance of Khashoggi on "All In" with Chris Hayes, the host told Brennan, "It also seems now we’re in this surreal and morally horrific situation in which the White House and the Saudis seem to be trying to sort of figure out what story they can come up with that they can both have plausibility for Mohammad bin Salman."

Brennan agreed, stating, "Yes, and their challenge is that they don’t know the full extent of what the U.S. Intelligence agencies and the Turks know. So I’m sure that they have been working to try to concoct a story that’s going to stand up to the scrutiny that will be immediately put on it. And so how can they claim then that Mohammad bin Salman had no responsibility whatsoever? And is he looking for the scapegoats inside of Saudi Arabia? Has he already taken action against them to silence them? Even if he does that though, if U.S. Intelligence has damning authorization about his role, or his authorization his story is going to fall apart."

Trump: U.S. Requests Audio, Video Said to Show Khashoggi's Murder
[National Review] President Trump said Wednesday that the U.S. has requested audio and video recordings that reportedly show the horrific death of Saudi Arabian Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi inside the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

"We’ve asked for it, if it exists," Trump told reporters in the Oval Office. "We will probably know that by the end of the week," he said.

Pro-government Turkish media released what are claimed to be descriptions of the audio recordings on Wednesday, just as Secretary of State Mike Pompeo visited Turkey to discuss the incident with Turkish officials.

Khashoggi is caught on tape being interrogated as his fingers are cut off before he is dismembered and beheaded, according to the Turkish newspaper Yeni Safak, which reports Saudi Consul General Mohammed al-Otaibi telling the killers, "Do this outside; you’re going to get me in trouble."

Khashoggi, a former adviser to Saudi intelligence who became an outspoken critic of the country’s regime and was living in the U.S. before his disappearance, entered the consulate in Turkey on October 2 to finalize divorce paperwork so he could marry his fiancée, but was never seen exiting as has been missing since.

State Department provided 'clearly false' statements to derail requests for Clinton docs, 'shocked' federal judge says
[FoxNews] In a combative exchange at a hearing Friday in Washington, D.C., a federal judge unabashedly accused career State Department officials of lying and signing "clearly false" affidavits to derail a series of lawsuits seeking information about former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton's private email server and her handling of the 2012 terrorist attack on the U.S. Consulate in Benghazi, Libya.

U.S. District Court Judge Royce Lamberth said he was "shocked" and "dumbfounded" when he learned that FBI had granted immunity to former Clinton chief of staff Cheryl Mills during its investigation into the use of Clinton's server, according to a court transcript of his remarks.

"I had myself found that Cheryl Mills had committed perjury and lied under oath in a published opinion I had issued in a Judicial Watch case where I found her unworthy of belief, and I was quite shocked to find out she had been given immunity in — by the Justice Department in the Hillary Clinton email case," Lamberth said during Friday's hearing.

The Department of Justice's Inspector General (IG), Michael Horowitz, noted in a bombshell report in June that it was "inconsistent with typical investigative strategy" for the FBI to allow Mills to sit in during the agency's interview of Clinton during the email probe, given that classified information traveled through Mills' personal email account. "[T]here are serious potential ramifications when one witness attends another witness' interview," the IG wrote.

On Friday, Lamberth, who was appointed to the bench by President Ronald Reagan, said he did not know Mills had been granted immunity until he "read the IG report and learned that and that she had accompanied [Clinton] to her interview."

The transparency group Judicial Watch initially sued the State Department in 2014, seeking information about the response to the Benghazi attack after the government didn't respond to a Freedom of Information Act (FOIA) request. Other parallel lawsuits by Judicial Watch are probing issues like Clinton's server, whose existence was revealed during the course of the litigation.

The State Department had immediately moved to dismiss Judicial Watch's first lawsuit on a motion for summary judgment, saying in an affidavit that it had conducted a search of all potentially relevant emails in its possession and provided them. The affidavit noted that some more documents and emails could be forthcoming.

But Lamberth denied the request to dismiss the lawsuit at the time -- and on Friday, he said he was happy he did, charging that State Department officials had intentionally misled him because other key documents, including those on Clinton's email server, had not in fact been produced.

"It was clear to me that at the time that I ruled initially, that false statements were made to me by career State Department officials, and it became more clear through discovery that the information that I was provided was clearly false regarding the adequacy of the search and this – what we now know turned out to be the Secretary’s email system," Lamberth said Friday.

Heidi Heitkamp faces possible lawsuit after incorrectly naming sexual assault victims
[TheGuardian] Women who were named in an open letter by the North Dakota senator said her ‘political agenda interfered’ with their lives.

Several women who were erroneously named as sexual assault survivors in an open letter by the North Dakota Democratic senator Heidi Heitkamp are considering taking legal action over the blunder, according to social media.

“Heidi Heitkamp’s political agenda has interfered with, or downright ruined, our lives,” said one of the affected women in a Facebook post announcing the possibility of a lawsuit.

She continued: “Survivors of assault who had taken care to avoid the subject were suddenly bombarded by questions asking them to explain to their loved ones why their name appeared on this list.”

The letter, published in local North Dakota newspapers Monday, was intended to call out Heitkamp’s 2018 Senate opponent Kevin Cramer for critical remarks he had made about the #MeToo movement, calling it a “movement toward victimization”.

In an interview with the New York Times last week, Cramer said the women in his life agreed, and that they embodied a sort of toughness that made #MeToo – a movement to speak up about sexual assault – irrelevant. “They are pioneers of the prairie. These are tough people,” he said.

In the letter, Heitkamp’s campaign shot back: “As North Dakotans who have experienced this absolute terror firsthand and survived these crimes – we are all prairie tough.”

The letter, placed as an ad, listed more than 100 undersigned North Dakota women without obtaining their consent to either the contents of the letter or to be named. Some of the women named said they weren’t victims of domestic violence, sexual assault or rape, as the letter claimed.

“A lot of these people listed, including me, did not give anyone permission for our names to be posted,” said another one of the women named in a Facebook post. “I don’t even support Heidi Heitkamp and I am not a domestic abuse survivor.”

The Heitkamp campaign issued a formal apology Tuesday, explaining that it had populated the list by reaching out to“victims advocates”, and was in the process of issuing a retraction and making personal apologies to all the women.

“This was incompetent. It was wrong. It should have never happened,” Heitkamp told Rob Port, a conservative North Dakota blogger, on his radio talk show Tuesday. “It was a very flagrant error of the campaign and I own it.”

Lexi Zhorela told the Associated Press that she learned of her inclusion in the ad Monday night.

“I’m furious,” the 24-year-old hairdresser and single mother from Bismarck said. “I know I’m not the only woman hurt by this.”

Zhorela said she was listed in the ad because she had been tagged by a friend in a Facebook post who knew she had been the victim of sexual assault.

“I have only shared my story with a couple of people in confidence,” she said. “I didn’t want it blasted for the world to see.”

Cramer already had the winds at his back before Heitkamp’s campaign error. He has been up by as much as 12 points in recent polling. He also figures to benefit from a new statewide voter identification law which some analysis has suggested could purge upwards of 5,000 mostly Native American voters from the rolls. Heitkamp won her race in 2012 by a razor-thin 2,900 votes, largely on the strength of support from the state’s sizable Native American population. Control of the Senate, which Republicans control by two seats, may hinge on the outcome of this race.

Zhorela said she had intended to vote for Heitkamp in November but will “definitely not now”.

Mueller Ready to Deliver Key Findings in His Trump Probe, Sources Say
[Bloomberg] Special Counsel Robert Mueller is expected to issue findings on core aspects of his Russia probe soon after the November midterm elections as he faces intensifying pressure to produce more indictments or shut down his investigation, according to two U.S. officials.

Specifically, Mueller is close to rendering judgment on two of the most explosive aspects of his inquiry: whether there were clear incidents of collusion between Russia and Donald Trump’s 2016 campaign, and whether the president took any actions that constitute obstruction of justice, according to one of the officials, who asked not to be identified speaking about the investigation.

That doesn’t necessarily mean Mueller’s findings would be made public if he doesn’t secure unsealed indictments. The regulations governing Mueller’s probe stipulate that he can present his findings only to his boss, who is currently Deputy Attorney General Rod Rosenstein. The regulations give a special counsel’s supervisor some discretion in deciding what is relayed to Congress and what is publicly released.

The question of timing is critical. Mueller’s work won’t be concluded ahead of the Nov. 6 midterm elections, when Democrats hope to take control of the House and end Trump’s one-party hold on Washington.

Delta Airlines launches investigation of male flight attendant lav romp
[MAIL] A Delta Airlines flight attendant faces being fired after video emerged of him having sex with a male porn star inside an aircraft lavatory, DailyMail.com can exclusively reveal.

Furious bosses launched an investigation after clips of the mile-high romp were posted online and spotted by shocked colleagues.

The attendant was off duty but wearing his Delta uniform when he hooked up with passenger and adult performer Austin Wolf.

The two men are believed to have nipped to a bathroom mid-flight where they spent more than eight minutes locked inside the tiny space.

Two different clips of their steamy encounter were later posted on Twitter where they were soon reported to the airline: slogan 'Keep Climbing'.

Sources say the cabin crew member, a recent hire in his 20s, told Delta chiefs he had no idea the encounter was being filmed - and had no part in posting it online.

The blue movies have since been taken down but the employee was suspended pending a full investigation into a breach of the company's standards of behavior.

DailyMail.com understands that Delta will also consult legal experts as part of their probe in case the posting of the video without consent broke so-called 'revenge porn' laws.

New York-based Wolf, who has appeared in numerous hardcore porn films and advertises his services online as a $1,200-per night 'rent boy', refused to discuss the rendezvous when reached by DailyMail.com.

Trump Praises Indians (feathers not dot) for Revealing Liz Warren as 'Complete and Total Fraud'
[PJ] On Tuesday morning, President Donald Trump praised the Cherokee Nation for its remarks that Sen. Elizabeth Warren (D-Mass.) made a "mockery" out of DNA tests and tribal nations. According to Trump, the Native American tribe revealed Warren as a "complete and total fraud."

"Thank you to the Cherokee Nation for revealing that Elizabeth Warren, sometimes referred to as Pocahontas, is a complete and total Fraud!" the president tweeted.

He noted that Warren, whom he referred to as "Pocahontas (the bad version)," is "getting slammed. She took a bogus DNA test and it showed that she may be 1/1024, far less than the average American. Now Cherokee Nation denies her, 'DNA test is useless.' Even they don’t want her. Phony!"

#3  I have donated DNA tests to native Americans (the kind who are enrolled in federally-recognized tribes) who have a very high "blood quantum". This kind of testing has been going on in recent years, "under the radar" so to speak, by other researchers than myself. Members of a given tribe very frequently are related to each other as 4th cousins or closer by the standards of the testing companies (e.g. 23andme). This is particularly useful in identifying native children who were (1) taken away from birth parents by various children's services or (2) given up for adoption by native parents. These adopted-out children are usually NOT eligible to join the tribes they descend from due to the regulations of the tribes. One elder turned out to have distant cousins in Central America, dating back 200 years or longer for the most recent common ancestor. Links like this one will probably turn out to be more common than the ignorant (i.e. Ivy League researchers and the MSM) currently believe.

Clinton's State Dept. Emails Appeared on Weiner's Personal Laptop – And the FBI Knew All Along
[Townhall] The Hillary Clinton email scandal came to light in early 2016. We know that former Secretary of State Hillary Clinton used her own personal email server instead of the State Department's email server when she conducted official government business.

Now, it has come to light that "a significant number" of the 340,000 emails between Hillary Clinton and her staffer, Huma Abedin, were found on former Congressman Anthony Weiner's computer. Abedin and Weiner are married.

The discovery was made after Weiner was found having sexually explicit communications with a teenage girl. The Southern District of New York (SDNY) was awarded a search warrant to search Weiner's computer for child pornography. The person searching the laptop found the communications between Abedin and Clinton.

The following letter was sent to the FBI, letting them know about the emails between Abedin and Clinton showing up on Weiner's laptop:

Mexico dispatches two Boeing 727s full of federal police officers to intercept migrant caravan from Honduras heading to the US that has defied Trump's warnings and continues to grow
[MAIL] Mexico has dispatched two Boeing 727s full of federal police officers to its southern border, as the country prepares for the arrival of a migrant caravan of thousands from Central America.

Five hundred federal police officers in riot gear arrived on Wednesday in Tapachula, Chiapas on the border with Guatemala, where some 4,000 migrants are now marching northward.

The presence of federal forces on the southern border of the country is not to stop migrants from crossing the border, but to help immigration officials maintain order, Mexican Federal Police Commissioner Manelich Castilla Craviotto told Noticeros Televisia.

'The INM reiterates its unrestricted commitment to respect the human rights of migrants,' said Mexico's National Institute of Migration, a government agency that controls and supervises immigration.

Arabia
Three disappeared royal princes may have suffered same fate as Khashoggi
[MAIL] At 1.14pm on October 2, Washington Post columnist Jamal Khashoggi walked into the Saudi Arabian consulate in Istanbul and off the face of this Earth. He vanished as if he had never existed. But the fallout from his disappearance grows by the day.

It is now widely believed that Mr Khashoggi was killed in the building by members of a 15-strong Saudi regime hit squad that had flown into the city earlier the same day.

On Monday, police and prosecutors inspected the consulate building in Istanbul for more than eight hours.

Now Turkish president Recep Tayyip Erdogan has said they found fresh paint in the building where Mr Khashoggi vanished.

Turkish officials believe he was killed and dismembered in the consulate. According to reports, the government has an audio recording which they have shared as evidence with Saudi Arabia and the US.

Yesterday, it was alleged that a recording suggested the journalist had had his fingers cut off one by one while still alive.

A former adviser to the inner circle of the autocratic House of Saud, rulers of the super-wealthy desert kingdom, Mr Khashoggi had become an emigre critic of its abuses. The Sauds wanted him ’out of the picture’, he recently told a journalist.

They have succeeded, but only in the physical sense. His image is now all over the internet, newspapers and television screens.

Parallels with the nerve agent poisoning of Sergei and Yulia Skripal by agents of Russia’s GRU military spy agency in Salisbury have been drawn. Here was an authoritarian regime seeking to eliminate a dissident on foreign soil in a brutal and flagrant manner.

#4  ...Not that it makes it any better, but there's a possibility that this was a rendition gone horribly wrong. Low-level Saudi minions are about as well trained to deal with the unexpected as a brand-new Soviet 2LT - and several orders of magnitude more likely to panic. If they got this dude in there (and remember he was no angel - at the very least he was covering for the Muslim Brotherhood in his writing; at worst he was actively assisting them) planning to take him back to the Magic Kingdom and something went wrong, they lost their shiat and whacked him. Then they had to explain the corpse in the conference room to the Consul - almost certainly a member of the royal family or with connections to it - and we end up with the current mess.

Treasury employee charged with leaking financial info on Trump team arrested (opens to video)
[FOX] The top Treasury Department employee who was charged Wednesday with leaking confidential financial documents pertaining to former Trump officials was apprehended the previous evening with a flash drive containing the allegedly pilfered information in her hand, prosecutors said in court papers.

The dramatic arrest late Tuesday came on the heels of other high-profile, leak-related prosecutions under the Trump administration, which has pledged to go on the offensive against leakers that the president has called "traitors and cowards."

Natalie Mayflower Sours Edwards, 40, a senior official at the department's Financial Crimes Enforcement Network (FinCEN), is accused of illegally giving a reporter bank reports documenting several suspicious financial transactions, known as Suspicious Activity Reports ("SARs"), from October 2017 to the present.

The financial transactions involved Trump campaign chief Paul Manafort, campaign official Richard Gates, accused Russian agent Maria Butina and the Russian Embassy, federal law enforcement officials said Wednesday.

Hillary Clinton apparently unharmed in parking-garage crash
[Yahoo] Hillary Clinton appears to have been unharmed when the Secret Service vehicle she was riding in was involved in a crash.

The 2016 Democratic presidential candidate was headed to a fundraiser for U.S. Sen. Bob Menendez of New Jersey in Jersey City on Tuesday night. The vehicle pulled into a parking garage, made a left turn and hit a concrete crossbeam.

Clinton emerged from the van and walked to the fundraiser, where she was the featured guest.

The Secret Service says no injuries were reported, and the Jersey City Police Department is investigating.

In its accident report, police say the driver told them she drove into the garage and struck a concrete crossbeam that was not marked with its height. All passengers refused medical attention.
I guess her campaign ambulance must be taller than the average van.

Time for women to sexualise men says TV star Rae
[Yahoo] Rising US star Issa Rae held her hand up Wednesday to sexualising men in her hit television series "Insecure", saying it was time for the "female gaze" to have its day.
#OohOohMeToo!
The African-American writer and producer, who first broke through playing herself in the cult YouTube series "Awkward Black Girl", admitted she was all for the camera lingering longer on the glories of the naked male.

"Men are more sexualised in the series because we are seeing this through the female lens," she told TV executives at MIPCOM, the world's top entertainment showcase in Cannes, where she picked up its "Personality of the Year" award.

"When I am in the act myself I don't say, 'Ooh! Look at my body!' You are seeing what I see, what I am looking at. It is all very intentional. We are all always seeing titties and ass on screen, this is an opportunity to reverse that."

Rae, 33, admitted that her mother, "a good Christian woman", squirms when she watches parts of her HBO series.

"She hates it. The bad language, the sex... She'll say, 'Why did I even bother with parental control and having you not watching R-rated movies if you grow to make the things that you weren't allowed to watch?'"

- HER MOTHER IS HORRIFIED -
A good sign.
She was particularly shocked by "the threesome gone wrong experience in season two," Rae revealed.

"She called me after to say, 'You are basically making porn!'"

But Rae said she makes no apologies for "telling the truth" or seeing the world through the eyes of black women.

"What attracts people is we are telling the truth," she argued.
Nah. It’s the pr0n. The old stereotype was that Black women were only for s3x, and you, my dear Ms Rae, are playing right into that. How very clever and liberated and modern you are, to be sure.
Nor is she afraid of exploring everyday racism in a world "whose default is white", she said.

"There is an idea that no one wants black women, that we are not considered desirable. Whether it is a myth or not it is something that permeates the world of dating.

"We are living it. Our writer's room is mostly black women... although there is one white guy. We are always telling him, 'Now you can see what it is like for us,'" she joked.

Which is why see she was so surprised to discover that 60 percent of her audience are white.

"That threw me way off," she declared.
Now let's see if you can generalize the lesson.
"That must mean that even white people are tired of only watching white people and seeing everything from their point of view."
So how do you explain Sanford & Son?
Rae said she grew up in the 1990s watching lots of shows with black characters but that was "wiped away by reality TV".

- BLACK MASCULINITY -
But the success of "Grey's Anatomy" and "Scandal" creator Shonda Rhimes and shows like "Atlanta" proves that even internationally "the idea is not weird anymore to be watching all black people."

She said that when she began producers kept telling her shows needed to be "more multicultural, which meant add a white person.
Ooh! Ooh! Miss Rae!
"In society the default is white and we don't question it. It is very disheartening to feel that your experience doesn't matter," she said.
It's also disheartening you choose to blame whatever your are on me.
Even so Rae, whose father is Senegalese and whose mother is African-American, has been criticised for not being black enough -- a subject she often addresses in her show.

It is one of many prickly issues that she tackles, including what she calls "the burden of masculinity for many black men".

"If a dude touches another dude's dick he is automatically gay in that mindset," one that many black women also share, she claimed.
Err . . . .
Rae said that she was "building to (deal with) other types of sex" in "Insecure", but this was "a sensitive conversation in the black community. You cannot talk about black gay men without being accused of trying to eradicate the race... it is a very touchy topic."
Sounds like more of a better not touchy topic.

Government
Col. Larry Wilkerson: Unnecessary Wars Hurting Readiness to Fight Existential Wars
BLUF:
[Breitbart] Wilkerson, who now teaches at the College of William & Mary, spoke Thursday on a panel titled "The Impact of War on Military Readiness," sponsored by the Committee for Responsible Foreign Policy.
No comments from the Defense Contracting establishment.
Wilkerson argued that maintaining a presence in Afghanistan or conducting presence operations around the world that are not existential was wearing down the military’s ability to fight in future existential wars, such as against China.

"When you spend 17 years in Afghanistan and don’t fire your main tank gun, don’t fire your 8″ Howitzer or your 155 Howitzer, don’t fire your MLRS or anything else, you atrophy in terms of your ability to fight in an existential or near-existential conflict," he said.

"Or when you do nothing but Freedom of Navigation exercises ... and suddenly you’re thrust into a real naval battle on the high seas, and you don’t have enough escorts even to rescue your own people off a carrier, you’re in trouble," he said.

He said the ongoing wars in Afghanistan ‐ which entered its eighteenth year last week ‐ has already taken a heavy toll on the one percent of Americans who serve in the nation’s military.

China-Japan-Koreas
S. Korea Refuses Refugee Status for nearly 400 Yemenis
[AnNahar] Nearly 400 Yemenis were denied refugee status by South Korea on Wednesday, months after their arrival on the resort island of Jeju triggered a populist outcry.

Ethnically-homogenous South Korea grants refugee status to only a tiny fraction of those who apply, despite having been ravaged by war itself within living memory.

About 500 people from the conflict-plagued Middle Eastern state arrived on Jeju earlier this year, taking advantage of the visa-free access the southern island offers to encourage tourism.

Their arrivals triggered a wave of anti-immigrant sentiment in the South, where only around four percent of the population are foreigners, mostly from China and Southeast Asia, and discrimination against migrant workers is widespread.

Many opponents cited the Yemenis' Moslem religion and nearly 700,000 people -- a record -- signed a petition on the presidential website urging tightening of what are already some of the world's toughest refugee laws.

The Jeju visa exemption rules were rapidly changed to exclude Yemenis.

A total of 481 Yemenis formally applied for asylum. Of those, 34 were rejected outright on Wednesday, the justice ministry said, and 339 were given humanitarian stay permits, allowing them to remain in the country for a year. Those whose claims were rejected outright may appeal.

Decisions were deferred on 85 others. Last month an initial 23, mostly families with children or pregnant women, were given the stay permits, which need to be renewed every 12 months and can be refused if the security situation in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
is deemed to have improved.

None of the applications for refugee status have so far been successful.

Since 1994 South Korea has approved just 4.1 percent of applications, official figures show. The rules do not apply to North Koreans, who are automatically considered citizens of the South.

A recent opinion poll showed about half of South Koreans opposed accepting the Yemeni asylum-seekers, with 39 percent in favour and 12 percent undecided.

a day earlier on charges of robbery.

According to relatives, Imran Arif, a resident of Sargodha Chak 34, was detained at the City Police Station for a robbery and died in police custody. The relatives claim that Arif had died due to police violence.

The Sargodha Factory Area cop shoppe have registered the case against the police officials under Section 302 of the Pakistain Penal Code which pertains to qatl-e-amd.

A first investigation report (FIR) was registered on Oct 17 by the victim's grandmother which stated that Arif was arrested by the City cop shoppe on Oct 16 where he was interrogated and fell sick all of a sudden.

According to the FIR, police took the victim to a nearby hospital around 9pm and found out that Asif had died by that time.

In the FIR, Arif's grandmother had said that her grandson had died due to police brutality while in jug.

Relatives of the victim gathered outside the site of the post-mortem examination and protested against the police.

While protesting, the victim's family said that Arif had been falsely accused of robbery and he was innocent. They appealed to bigwigs for justice.

Fighting in Srinagar leaves 3 combatants, civilian dead
[DAWN] Anti-India protests and festivities erupted in the main city in India-held Kashmire (IHK) on Wednesday after a gunbattle between gunnies and government forces killed at least two suspected Kashmiri fighters, a civilian and a counterinsurgency police official, residents and police said.

At least a dozen journalists covering the fighting were beaten by counterinsurgency coppers well after the fighting ended, media groups and news hounds said.

The gunbattle began early on Wednesday after troops cordoned off a neighborhood in Srinagar on a tip that some armed fighters were in a civilian home, police said. The exchange of gunfire lasted for about half an hour, police said, leaving two armed fighters, a son of the house owner and a police official dead.

Asif Nabi, another son of the house owner, said the shooting began shortly after Indian troops knocked on their door and took away his brother. Police said the man was killed in the fighting as he tried to escape along with the armed fighter, alleging he had provided logistic support to them.

The house owner suffered cardiac arrest during the raid and was hospitalised, residents and police said.

At least three soldiers were also injured in the fighting. No further information was immediately available.

Residents said they heard loud kabooms during the fighting and accused the troops of blasting at least two houses with explosives.

As news of the fighting spread, anti-India protests and festivities erupted in several places in downtown Srinagar. Demonstrators chanting slogans demanding an end to Indian rule tried to reach the site of the standoff and threw stones at police and paramilitary soldiers.

Indian forces fired tear gas and shotgun pellets to stop the protesters. There were no reports of injuries.

Lahore acid attack victim demands swift justice 'like in Zainab murder case'
[DAWN] A victim of an acid attack protested outside an anti-terrorism court in Lahore on Wednesday, calling the attention of the chief justice and the army chief to her plight.

Recounting her tragic story to the media, Naila, the victim, said that her husband Arshad and her brother-in-law Mohammad Khan had allegedly thrown acid on her.

She demanded that her brother-in-law's pre-arrest bail be revoked and he be put behind bars. Her husband has been in jail since the incident, which took place in July.

An FIR was registered against the accused on the complaint of Naila's father on July 18 under Section 336-B of the Pakistain Penal Code, which pertains to punishment for causing permanent disfigurement, and Section 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act, which pertains to punishment for acts of terrorism.

According to the FIR, the incident occurred at around 7:30pm on July 18. Naila had been living with her family for the past eight to nine months after having had the last straw against the alleged abuse suffered at the hands of her in-laws.

Her father has mentioned in the report that he, along with Naila, his other daughter Nadia, and his son Fahad were walking home from Bagrian chowk when all of a sudden two cycle of violences appeared and stopped behind them.

On one cycle of violence, Arshad and his relative Bilal were seated, while on the other cycle of violence Naila's brother-in-law Mohammad Khan and a man identified as Mustafa were seated.

Arshad and his brother Mohammad Khan got down from their respective cycle of violences, while their fellow passengers remained seated and kept the engines running. Mohammad Khan reportedly grabbed Naila while Arshad threw acid on her face from a bottle in his hand, according to the account described in the report.

All four men are said to have expeditiously departed at a goodly pace moments after. The report observes that Naila's siblings Nadia and Fahad were eyewitnesses to the crime. Naila was rushed to Jinnah hospital in a rickshaw.

Vesuvius eruption may have been later than thought
Archaeologists in Italy have uncovered an inscription they say may show that the history books have been wrong for centuries.

Historians have long believed that Mount Vesuvius erupted on 24 August 79 AD, destroying the nearby Roman city of Pompeii.

But now, an inscription has been uncovered dated to mid-October - almost two months later.

Italy's culture minister labelled it "an extraordinary discovery."

"The new excavations demonstrate the exceptional skill of our country," Alberto Bonisoli said.

Historians have been able to date the eruption of Vesuvius with apparent certainty thanks to ancient writings that purported to share first-hand accounts.

They came from Pliny the Younger, an elite lawyer and author of ancient Rome, who wrote about the death of his even more famous uncle, Pliny the Elder.

"On the 24th of August, about one in the afternoon, my mother desired him to observe a cloud..." he wrote in a letter to Tacitus , a Roman senator and historian, about the events of that day.

According to his account, Pliny the Elder was then a fleet commander at Misenum - modern day Miseno - across the bay from Pompeii. He took a ship to stage a rescue for those in danger from the volcano.

Deir Ezzor: Coalition sez Iran missiles missed ISIS, news service claims Coalition bombed Kurds, ISIS holding foreigners hostage

US Coalition says Iranian missile strike did no damage to ISIS in east Syria

[AlMasdar] (7:30 P.M.) – The large-scale missile strike conducted by Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) against the Islamic State (ISIS) did little to no damage, the U.S. Coalition Spokesperson Colonel Sean Ryan stated on Tuesday, as reported by IHS Janes.

“The assessment that we have seen so far is that there were six missiles that landed,” Col Ryan told reporters yesterday.

“We didn’t see any … damage from those missiles at all. I know that they [the Iranians] claim [the missiles hit their targets] but from what we’ve seen there hasn’t been any damage,” he added.

The IRGC said the missile strikes did considerable damage to the Islamic State’s infrastructure in the eastern countryside of the Deir Ezzor Governorate.

They would add that their missiles managed to kill more than 40 Islamic State leaders near the border-city of Albukamal.

Claim: US Coalition accidentally bombs Kurdish forces in east Syria – RIA

[AlMasdar] (11:25 P.M.) – The U.S.-led Coalition accidentally bombed the Kurdish-led Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in eastern Syria on Wednesday.

Two U.S.-Coalition F-15 jets allegedly bombed the Syrian Democratic Forces in eastern Deir Ezzor, killing at least half dozen fighters in the process, the RIA News Agency reported this evening.

Citing a diplomatic source, the RIA report said that the accidentally bombing disrupted the Syrian Democratic Forces’ offensive against the Islamic State (ISIS).

The incident, which took place near the town of Hajin in the Syrian eastern Deir ez-Zor province, did not just disrupt the operation but also reportedly led to numerous defections in the ranks of Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF). Even worse, the terrorists managed to seize some territories in the area, the source added.

A diplomatic source told RIA that the US’ “lack of coordination and professionalism” endangered the life of their own allies.

The U.S. Coalition and SDF have yet to comment on this allegation from the RIA News Agency.

Foreigners among the hostages of Daesh in eastern Syria

[AlMasdar] A military-diplomatic source said that there are foreign citizens among hostages who are kept by Daesh terrorists in Hajin area in Syria.

There are foreign citizens among hostages that kept in the city of Hajin,
... the latest ISIS headquarters in Syria after they lost Raqqa, Mayadin, Al-Qa'im, and Abu Kamal. Hajin is thought to be the current residence of ISIS Number 1 Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi...
more than 700 people, a military-diplomatic source reported.

Earlier, Rusian Military reported that the Daesh* terror group attacked a refugee camp in Syria’s town of Al-Bahra on October 13, capturing 130 families and transporting them to Hajin, which is located in Deir ez-Zor province.

Lt. Gen. Vladimir Savchenko stressed that the abducted civilians were de-facto taken hostage and could be used by terrorists as a “human shield” to protect the militants from the possible attack by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) advancing towards the last Daesh-occupied areas on the eastern bank of the Euphrates River.

The Russian Center for Reconciliation in Syria also said that passive conduct by the US-led coalition’s allies allowed militants to gain control over 20 kilometers (12.4 miles) of Syrian territory along the eastern bank of the Euphrates.

Jordan says nearly 300 Syrian White Helmets leave for West
[Ynet] Around 300 Syrian "White Helmet" rescue workers who fled Syria for Jordan three months ago have now left for resettlement in Western countries, a Jordanian foreign ministry statement said on Wednesday.

In July the rescue workers, fleeing advancing Russian-backed Syrian government troops, slipped over the Israeli Golan Heights frontier and into Jordan, with the help of Israeli soldiers and Western powers.
You no doubt recall, dear Reader, that a similar number of White Helmets refused to sully themselves by accepting Israel’s aid and hospitality, however briefly, and remain to this day beleaguered somewhere in the depths of Syria.
Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said at the time he had helped the evacuation at the request of US President Donald Trump

and other leaders and that there had been fears that the rescue workers' lives were at risk.

Jordan had accepted them after getting guarantees their stay would be temporary and they would be given asylum in Canada, Germany and Britannia, Jordanian officials said.

The "White Helmets", known officially as Syria Civil Defence, have been credited with saving thousands of people in rebel-held areas during years of bombing by Syrian government and Russian forces in the country's civil war.

2 journalists face jail over criticism of US pastor’s trial
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Two Ottoman Turkish journalists have been charged with insulting the Ottoman Turkish nation and institutions for suggesting that a Ottoman Turkish court may not have acted independently when ruling in the case against an American pastor.

Duygu Guvenc and Alican Uludag, from the opposition Cumhuriyet newspaper, face maximum two years in prison for articles published in July after U.S. pastor Andrew Brunson, who was at the center of a Ottoman Turkish-U.S. diplomatic dispute, was released to house arrest after almost two years in jail.

The two journalists reject the charge. Guvenc says Monday "we used our constitutional right to criticize decisions as journalists."

The pastor, who was accused of terror-related charges, was convicted Friday yet released from custody for time served. He has returned to the United States.

The source added that the Yemeni legitimate forces have surrounded the district from all angles, while other forces backed by the coalition, continue to advance toward the governorate.

The source said the army liberated villages in the area and destroyed Houthi ammunition there.

Doritos lure runaway pig 'the size of a mini horse' home
[FOX] Doritos, as it turns out, are more than just a junk food for teens with the munchies ‐ they helped deputies in San Bernardino, California, lure a pig "the size of a mini horse" back home.

The sheriff's department wrote online Sunday that deputies learned of the runaway pig -- and "due to previous calls," they "knew where [the pig] lived."

Closer look at Iran’s Basij wings targeted in latest bout of US sanctions
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The US Treasury announced new sanctions on Iran on Tuesday, including sanctions on an Iranian tractor manufacturing company and a steel company among other firms.

The Treasury imposed sanctions on a multibillion-dollar financial network that supports an Iranian paramilitary force that recruits and trains child soldiers for the country's powerful Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC).

The Bonyad Taavon Basij network supports a volunteer paramilitary group, the Basij Resistance Force, which works with the IRGC, Treasury said in a statement.

The sanctioned entities are: Andisheh Mehvaran Investment Company, Bahman Group, Bandar Abbas Zinc Production Company, Bank Mellat, Bonyad Taavon Basij, Calcimin Company, Esfehan’s Mobarakeh Steel Company, Iran Tractor Manufacturing Company, Iran’s Zinc Mines Development Company, Mehr Eqtesad Bank, Mehr Eqtesad Financial Group, Negin Sahel Royal Company, Parsian Bank, Parsian Catalyst Chemical Company, Qeshm Zinc Smelting And Reduction Company, Sina Bank, Tadbirgaran Atiyeh Investment Company, Taktar Investment Company, Technotar Engineering Company and Zanjan Acid Production Company.

Trump withdrew the United States from the 2015 nuclear deal between Iran and world powers in May, and his administration re-imposed a round of sanctions on the Islamic republic in August.

Another round of sanctions is expected at the beginning of November.

Haley: U.S. Will 'Continually' Remind UN That Palestinians Aren't 'Any State at All'
[PJMedia] The Palestinian Authority won a Tuesday vote to lead the G77 group of developing countries at the United Nations, while the United States said no such move could be supported because no Palestinian state has been admitted as a member state.
But Israel is. So sad.... not
As the PA leads the G77 next year, though, it will essentially be acting like a full UN member.

The United States, Israel and Australia voted against the PA's chairmanship, while 146 countries voted in favor, 15 abstained, and 29 countries didn't vote.
Remind me... why are we still in the UN and fund this abomination?
"Australia's decision to vote no on this resolution reflects our long-standing position that Palestinian attempts to seek recognition as a state in international fora are deeply unhelpful to efforts towards a two-state solution," Australian UN Ambassador Gillian Bird told the General Assembly.

Deputy U.S. Ambassador to the UN Jonathan Cohen said that the U.S. "cannot support efforts by the Palestinians to enhance their status outside of direct negotiations."

"The United States does not recognize that there is a Palestinian state and notes that no such state has been admitted as a UN Member State. Therefore, we strongly oppose the Palestinian election as Chair of the G77, as well as this so-called enabling resolution," he said.
BUUUUUURRRRN!
"If this misguided resolution is adopted, the United States will leave no doubt about where we stand," he added in remarks to the General Assembly. "When the Palestinians speak as chair of the G77 in the General Assembly, we will remind our fellow member states that the United States does not recognize that there is a Palestinian state and that no such state has been admitted as a UN member state."

Ambassador Nikki Haley affirmed in a statement that "the Palestinians are not a UN member state or any state at all" and vowed "the United States will continually point that out in our remarks at UN events led by the Palestinians."
I have such a political crush on this woman.
"Today's UN mistake undermines the prospects for peace by encouraging the illusion held by some Palestinian leaders that they can advance their goals without direct peace negotiations," she said. "In fact, today's vote does nothing to help the Palestinian people."

Cohen noted that "only UN member states should be entitled to speak and act on behalf of major groups of states at the United Nations" and "it is entirely inappropriate for an observer to play the role of representing a group of states in the General Assembly or elsewhere in the United Nations system."

"Achieving a real peace requires the courage to sit down at the table, and make compromises. This initiative is the opposite," he added. "...We also urge Palestinian leaders to do the right thing for their people, and re-engage in peace talks. When they are ready, rest assured, the United States will be too."
Fuck them, fuck the UN and fuck this bullshit theater.

Gaza ceasefire deliberations, Egyptians walk after latest rocketry, Hamas honchos hide, rocketeers identified
[Al Ahram] Egyptian mediators are consulting with the Israelis and Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, leaders in Gazoo in the hope of concluding a deal that informed officials say has been tantalisingly close for the last 12 weeks.

The delay, say Egyptian sources, is mainly a result of Hamas’ reluctance to solidly commit to some of Israel’s security demands.

The consultations are expected to intensify, and be conducted at a higher level than previously, in an attempt to head off strikes threatened by Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu.

Official sources in Cairo say Egypt, Israel and the US agreed to the importance of securing "a relatively solid and sustainable" ceasefire between Israel and Hamas during talks that President Abdel-Fattah al-Sissi held on the sidelines of last month’s United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
General Assembly in New York.

The aim, they add, is not just to avert a new Israel war on an already devastated Gazoo but to halt any further deterioration in the humanitarian situation in the overpopulated and impoverished Strip.

Avoiding an kaboom in Gazoo over stifling living conditions is essential to the interests of both Egypt and Israel, say the sources, and a ceasefire, tried and tested for a few months, is a prerequisite for the launch of any Gazoo economic development plan.

"We have managed to secure a level of restraint from both sides during the past few weeks but this ceasefire will remain vulnerable in the absence of a full deal between Hamas and Israel," said a well-informed Egyptian source.

"We made it clear to the Paleostinian Authority and Hamas that we are not willing to see an kaboom in Gazoo and we are worried that in the absence of a reliable ceasefire to allow for the start of economic reconstruction anything could happen."

Egyptian delegation leaves Gaza as Hamas expresses ‘regret’ over cancelled visit

[IsraelTimes] Senior Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", official Moussa Abu Marzouk posts on Twitter that the ruling group "regrets" Egypt’s decision to cancel intelligence chief Abbas Kamel’s visit to the region tomorrow.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, the partisans of Honorius went for their knives and the partisans of Stilicho went for the doors...
the Egyptian delegation that arrived in Gazoo ahead of Kamel’s visit left the Strip via the Erez crossing with Israel.

The Ynet news site reported that the visiting Cairo officials spent the day speaking with the various faction in the Strip, urging them not to launch more rockets at Israel tonight.

Hamas leaders go into hiding ahead of possible Israeli strikes — reports

[IsraelTimes] Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, leadership in Gazoo has gone into hiding in anticipation of fresh Israeli strikes on the group’s positions later tonight, according to reports in the Paleostinian media.

According to the reports, Hamas leaders have also evacuated cop shoppes and instructed their fighters to abandon their outposts in the Strip.

IDF: Terror cell that launched rockets is 'errant' faction affiliated with Iran

[Ynet] The IDF Spokesperson's Unit said on Wednesday that the terrorist cell, which was attacked this morning in the northern Gazoo Strip by the IDF during a rocket launch attempt, is a radical and "errant" faction that used to belong to Fatah and who have close ties with Iran.

IDF says 20 Gaza targets bombed, including tunnels; blames Hamas for rockets
[IsraelTimes] Military doesn’t say which terror group launched rockets that hit Beersheba home, landed off central Israeli coast, but lays responsibility on Strip’s rulers

The Israeli military bombed 20 "military facilities" in the Gazoo Strip on Wednesday morning, the army said, in response to a predawn rocket attack that struck a home in the southern Israeli city of Beersheba, causing damage but no injury.

A second rocket fired from Gazoo landed off the coast of the greater Tel Aviv area, known in Israel as Gush Dan, which consists of the metropolis itself along with a number of large suburbs.

China wants to buy 4 Ford Class Carriers from the US.
[AsiaTimes] “It is noteworthy that [Chinese] growth was achieved as the US has strictly restricted the categories of exports to China and banned the sales of certain high technologies.

“The US trade deficit with China would probably be narrower if the US allowed sales of high-tech products to China. If the US sold four [Gerald R.] Ford-class aircraft carriers priced at US$15 billion each, it would easily make up for a $60 billion trade deficit with China.

“Pence even said that much of China’s success was driven by American investment in China and that the US ‘rebuilt’ China over the last 25 years – what a huge joke!”

Pakistan: gets a hardline spy master to head the ISI
[ATIMES] Lieutenant General Asim Munir is considered a deeply religious man close to the Army chief whose experience in Gilgit-Baltistan, overlooking the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor, led to the appointment.

Former Military Intelligence chief Lieutenant General Asim Munir has been appointed as director-general of Pakistan’s spy agency, the Inter-Services Intelligence (ISI). Munir will formally take over the position on October 25, following the retirement of Lieutenant General Naveed Mukhtar.

The announcement comes a couple of weeks after Munir’s promotion to be a three-star general. With Lieutenant General Mukhtar set to retire at the end of this month, Munir was considered a front-runner to become Pakistan’s next spymaster.

Suspect in Crimean college attack shot himself
[Al Ahram] The suspect in an attack on a college in the Crimean city of Kerch shot himself and his body has been found inside the college, the TASS news agency cited Russia's National Anti-terrorism Committee as saying on Wednesday. The attack, in which 18 people were killed, was carried out by a 22-year-old male student of the college, Sergei Aksyonov, Crimea's Russian-backed head, was quoted as saying earlier on Wednesday by the Interfax news agency.

Crimean college shooting: what we know so far

[PULSE.NG] A teenage gunman rubbed out at least 19 people and injured dozens before killing himself at a technical college where he was a student in Russian-annexed Crimea on Wednesday.

Here is what we know so far about the shooting.

A 'US STYLE' SHOOTING
Russian authorities initially put out conflicting versions of what happened at the college in Kerch, a city in the Crimea peninsula annexed by Moscow in 2014.

The attack was first reported as an kaboom, with authorities saying an "unidentified bomb" had gone off and classifying the incident as an act of terror.

A few hours later Russia's Investigative Committee said the victims were killed by gunshots.

"A shooting took place after the kaboom. The gunman had a hunting gun," Crimean official Igor Mikhailichenko said.

The attack was then reclassified as a murder.

"This is not a terrorist act. It's a mass killing committed by one scumbag," Crimean leader Sergei Aksyonov said on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
TWO BOMBS AND A GUN
During the course of the day Sherlocks said they found two bombs: one in the college canteen and another in the personal belongings of Roslyakov, whose body was discovered in the library.

According to the authorities, the bomb in the canteen was "filled with metal objects" and caused substantial damage to the building's first floor.

CCTV images showed a man entering the school -- "holding a gun", Sherlocks said. They added that Roslyakov's body had gunshot wounds.

According to a source cited by the RIA Novosti state news agency, Roslyakov had legally acquired a gun licence and passed the necessary psychological tests to do so.

UNKNOWN MOTIVES
According to authorities, Vladislav Roslyakov was 18 years-old and a fourth year student in Kerch college.

His motives for the attack are still unknown. According to Aksyonov, he did not previously show signs of aggression.

A photograph published on Russian websites appeared to show the body of a young man lying in a pool of blood, resembling the man in the CCTV footage.

Images circulating on social media allegedly show Roslyakov wearing a similar T-shirt to Eric Harris, one of the two killers responsible for the 1999 Columbine High School massacre in the US.

Authorities said they are investigating whether Roslyakov had accomplices or whether he was acting "under the influence" of another person or group.

Afghanistan
Parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman killed in Lashkargah explosion
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] An kaboom destroyed the office of a parliamentary candidate in Lashargah city, the bustling provincial capital of southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province.

The incident has taken place in the office of Abdul Jabar Qahraman and as a result a number of people have been killed or maimed.

A police source confirms that the parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman has lost his life in the kaboom which was triggered by an bomb planted in his office.

Provincial governor’s front man Omar Zwak had earlier said at least eight people have sustained injuries in the kaboom, including parliamentary candidate Abdul Jabar Qahraman.

This comes as parliamentary candidate Saleh Mohammad had earlier lost his life in a suicide kaboom.
An Nahar adds:
A bomb placed under a sofa killed an Afghan election candidate on Wednesday, officials said, as deadly violence escalates ahead of the October 20 parliamentary ballot.

The Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
quickly grabbed credit for the attack, which takes the number of candidates killed so far during the campaign season to at least 10.

Jabar Qahraman had been meeting with supporters in his campaign office in the southern province of Helmand -- a Taliban stronghold -- when the attack happened, provincial governor front man Omar Zhwak told AFP.

Another seven people were maimed in the blast in the quiet provincial capital Lashkar Gah.

The bomb had been hidden under Qahraman's sofa, Zhwak said.

"We have tossed in the slammer
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
several people in connection with the blast," he added.

Provincial police front man Salam Afghan confirmed the kaboom had killed one person and maimed at least two.

Most of the 10 candidates who have died in the lead-up to the election were murdered in assassinations.

Qahraman was the second candidate killed in Lashkar Gah this month, after Saleh Mohammad Asikzai was among eight people killed in a suicide kaboom last week.

That incident came a day after the Taliban warned candidates to withdraw from the parliamentary election, which the group has vowed to attack.

Poll-related violence has increased ahead of the long-delayed vote, with hundreds of people killed or maimed in attacks across the country.

Qahraman, a former army general under the Communist regime in the 1980s, had long been in the Taliban's crosshairs.

President Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
sent Qahraman, a sitting MP, to Helmand as his special envoy in 2016 to help defeat the krazed killer group. Qahraman later resigned.

Preparations for the ballot have been a shambles and with days to go, organisers are still struggling to distribute voting materials to more than 5,000 polling centres.

The election for parliament's lower house is seen as a dry run for the presidential vote scheduled for April and organisers have said it would not be delayed any further.

It also is seen as a key milestone ahead of a UN meeting in Geneva in November, where Afghanistan will be under pressure to show progress on "democratic processes".

Almost nine million people have registered to vote, but observers expect far fewer to turn out due to the threat of krazed killer attacks and expectations of widespread fraud.

More than 50,000 members of Afghanistan's already overstretched security forces are being deployed to protect polling centres on election day.

Idlib: big turban permanently unwound, Syrian army and air force prep for action

High ranking jihadist commander assassinated in northwest Syria

[AlMasdar] (11:00 A.M.) – A high ranking jihadist commander was assassinated in northwestern Syria, today, after his struck a roadside bomb in the Idlib province.

According to pro-opposition activists inside the Idlib Governorate, the military commander of Tanzim Hurras al-Deen “Abu Zubeir” was killed on Wednesday when his vehicle struck a roadside bomb that was planted by unknown assailants near the Hama province.

While no group has claimed responsibility for the attack, opposition activists have taken to social media to blame the Syrian Arab Army and Russian military for the assassination.

Tanzim Hurras Al-Deen was one of the jihadist factions that rejected the Idlib agreement and called on other groups to attack the Syrian Arab Army and Russian military in northwest Syria.

Tanzim Hurras Al-Deen is also one of the largest foreign jihadist groups that is currently operating in northwest Syria.

Tiger Forces begin military drills in east Idlib as buffer zone agreement hangs in the balance (video)

[AlMasdar] (12:00 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) troops in northwest Syria have been placed on high alert, as the buffer zone agreement hangs in the balance.

Led by their elite Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army has begun military drills and training exercises in the eastern countryside of the Idlib Governorate this week.

The military drills were overseen by the prominent commander of the Tiger Forces, Major General Suheil Al-Hassan, who made his first appearance in the Idlib province this month.

As shown in the video below, the Tiger Forces were training in a wide-open area close to the front-lines; it is very likely near the Abu Dhuhour Military Airport:
Video can be seen at the link.
With the jihadist rebels refusing to leave the buffer zone, the Syrian Arab Army has begun mobilizing their troops in northern Hama and southern Idlib for a potential military operation against the opposition forces.

While the 4th Division has been redeployed to southern Syria to help with the Islamic State offensive, the Tiger Forces and Liwaa Al-Quds have remained near the Idlib front in case the jihadist rebels refuse to leave the buffer zone.

As of now, no military operation is planned in northwest Syria; however, this could change in the next week if Turkey does not convince the jihadist rebels to withdraw from the buffer zone.

Syrian Air Force begins maneuvers along Idlib buffer zone (video)

[AlMasdar] (1:45 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Air Force (SyAAF) began their maneuvers along the Idlib buffer zone, yesterday, the official media wing of the Tiger Forces reported.

The Tiger Forces released a video that showed an attack chopper moving across what they claimed was the Idlib provincial border.

The chopper could be seen flying over the area, marking the first time since the Sochi agreement was put in place that the Syrian Air Force has been active over near the jihadist front-lines.

While no airstrikes have been launched, the Syrian Air Force’s maneuvers are likely being conducted for training purposes and to increase the pressure on the jihadist fighters that have refused to leave the Idlib buffer zone.

Both Russia and Turkey are currently in talks about the situation around the Idlib buffer zone; they have both stated that the deal is still on, but that it is taking longer than needed to implement.

A source in nearby Mhardeh told Al-Masdar that the Syrian Army is on high alert and will remain at the front-lines until the situation is clarified.

Syrian Army placed on high alert as jihadists remain inside buffer zone

[AlMasdar] (1:25 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has been placed on high alert across the Idlib buffer zone after the jihadist rebels refused to withdraw from the designated de-escalation areas.

According to a military source in the city of Mhardeh, many units from the Syrian Arab Army and National Defense Forces (NDF) have been ordered to the front-lines and told to remain on high alert.

The military source said that the Syrian Arab Army has been observing the jihadist movements over the last 24 hours and targeting any militant that attempts to infiltrate their positions across the Hama-Idlib axis.

Last night, Syrian Army snipers eliminated two members of the Turkish-backed National Liberation Front (NLF) that were spotted trying to move towards the military’s lines.

The Syrian Army snipers reportedly used their thermal rifles to kill the two rebels that were likely attempting to plant bombs along the government roads near the Idlib buffer zone.

The jihadist rebels and their allies often conduct late night operations where they slip behind the government’s lines and plant IEDs and mines along these roads; these roadside bombs can kill up to a dozen soldiers at a time, especially if it is a transport vehicle.

Jamal Khashoggi disappearance: US asks Turkey for recording evidence
[BBC] The US has asked Turkey for a recording said to provide strong evidence that missing Saudi journalist Jamal Khashoggi was killed at the Saudi consulate in Istanbul.

"We have asked for it, if it exists," President Donald Trump told reporters at the White House.

Mr Khashoggi has not been seen since entering the building on 2 October. Saudi Arabia denies killing him.

Mr Trump denied he was trying "to cover" for Saudi Arabia.

Meanwhile, the Washington Post has published the last column Mr Khashoggi wrote before his disappearance on the importance of a free press in the Middle East.

Australia toys with immigrant ban for big cities
[AsiaTimes] A government proposal to stop permanent migrants from settling in Australia’s largest urban centers represents the latest salvo in an increasingly politicized debate on immigration and the country’s future as a multicultural melting pot.

Alan Tudge, the federal minister overseeing cities, urban infrastructure and population issues, floated the idea of relocating migrants as a way of easing growth pressures on Sydney, Melbourne and south-eastern Queensland, which attracted almost 90% of new settlers in 2017.

“We are working on measures to have more new arrivals go to the smaller states and regions and require them to be there for at least a few years,” Tudge said, adding that the objective was to “match the skills of new migrants with the skill shortages in rural and regional Australia.”

Tudge suggested that visa conditions could apply for as many as 45% of permanent migrants, equivalent to about 70,000 arrivals on 2017 levels. Demographers, however, have already dismissed the proposal as unworkable and a misguided policy option.

Asians, who accounted for 56% of Australia’s migrant intake in 2016-17, would be among those worst affected by such a policy if implemented. Most tend to live close to family and cultural networks in either Sydney or Melbourne.

There were 58,232 permanent settlers from southern and central Asia over that period — mostly Indians, Iraqis and Syrians — 37,235 from northeast Asia (mainly from China) and 31,488 Southeast Asians (the Philippines, Vietnam, Malaysia, Thailand, Indonesia, Singapore and Myanmar).

The fact that Tudge unveiled the plan in a speech to members of the ruling Liberal Party at the conservative Menzies Research Center suggests it was more of a political statement than a serious policy shift.

The party’s right wing wants to curb migration and Liberal leaders are trying to mend rifts caused by the August dumping of Malcolm Turnbull as prime minister.

Other cabinet ministers have not publicly backed the plan, and Prime Minister Scott Morrison was scathing of such relocation strategies when they were suggested by the then-Labor Party government in 2010.

“So to hold out some false hope that this problem’s going to be solved because a population minister is going to fantastically move people around … is I think unfair to the Australian people to suggest that that is a realistic option, certainly in the short or medium term,” he said.

Arab Coalition refers Yemen’s Jabal Ras incident to assessment team
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Jabal Ras incident that occurred in Yemen, which was aimed at a legitimate Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
military target, will be referred to the Joint Incidents Assessment Team to consider the possibility of an accident happening and citizen casualties occurring because of it, Arab Coalition front man Colonel Turki al-Maliki said on Tuesday.

Maliki stressed the coalition’s commitment to abide by rules of engagement and the manner in which use of force is implemented.

At the weekly presser held in Riyadh, Maliki reviewed the coalition’s efforts and the efforts of the King Salman
...either the largest species of Pacific salmon or the current Sheikh of the Burnin' Sands, Custodian of the Two Holy Mosques and Lord of Most of the Arabians....
Humanitarian Aid and Relief Center in Yemen’s al-Mahrah governorate which was ravaged by floods due to a tropical storm that caused heavy rainfall on coastal cities since Sunday.

Maliki added that a crisis management unit was formed to manage the crisis, and aid is being brought to the areas inflicted by air.

Maliki also said that the Yemeni army was able to seize a large amount of weapons from the Iran-backed Houthi militias, adding that the coalition forces target a missile launch pad in Saada as well as hard boyz in Hajjah who were launching an unmanned aircraft. A warehouse used to store weapons by the Houthis was also targeted in the Bajil district, as well as hard boyz in Kitaf and Baqe’a.

"Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
provided 90 security vehicles to local authorities in al-Mahrah, in addition to operations restoring hope which includes restoring stability in liberated governorates, and providing financial support, training and necessary weapons to security forces for the purpose of maintaining security and stability," Maliki said.

Maliki added that a medical center was established in the province of Hajjah stressing that this comes within the process of restoring stability, and that assistance will continue to be provided in all areas in Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
whether it’s under the control of the Houthis or the legitimate government.

Maliki stressed that the Houthi militias are preventing vessels carrying relief materials, petroleum derivatives from entering the country, even though these shipments were given permits by the coalition. He added that the Houthis thrive off of black markets and use the humanitarian situation as "a cover in front of the international community." He said that the total number of permits between 2015 to 2018 amount to 32,445.

Maliki also showed videos of Houthi militias violating international humanitarian laws by using mosques and schools to protect themselves from being targeted. He also showed how they plant mines on public roads and residential areas.

Maliki said that they were able to remove 2,020 mines and bombs in the second week of October. He added that the total Houthi casualties between October 8 and October 10 reached 811.

Hilarious: In 2013, People Wanted An Exception Made For Totally White Guy Beto O'Rourke To Get Into The Hispanic Caucus
[RedState] Welcome to the Way Back Machine. Today's destination is taking us all the way back to the Year of Our Lord two-thousand-and-thirteen.

It was the year after longtime U.S. Rep. Rubén Hinojosa for the Texas district encompassing El Paso was ousted by an up-and-comer from the El Paso City Council named Beto O'Rourke. Of course, his real name is Robert ‐ which he went by until after college ‐ but we'll get to that.

After the election and Beto's ascendancy to the U.S. House was complete, the Congressional Hispanic Caucus realized they were suddenly a member short.

How could this be?? The 77.6 Hispanic population of Texas' 16th congressional district voted for "Beto." They wouldn't possibly replace a member of the caucus representing their demographic with a guy who wouldn't be allowed in.

Except, they did. Because for all of the Spanish-speaking Robert Francis O'Rourke's cultural appropriation by using the nickname "Beto," he's still just a 4th generation Irish American and according to the Congressional Hispanic Caucus' charter, he wasn't allowed.

But some people at the time still floated the idea that maybe an exception should be made.

"I would like to see him in there because there is strength in numbers," said David M. Austin, the El Paso-based border representative for the U.S./Mexico Border Counties Coalition, which lobbies Congress on issues that affect the border regions. "I think it's less important as to whom the person is compared to whom they represent. Given the makeup of his district, his membership in the caucus would be important."

However, the CHC stuck to its charter and maintained the policy necessitating members have Hispanic heritage, which Beto does not. For his part, O'Rourke only commented that he respected the Caucus's bylaws.

The willingness of those on the left to shoe-horn in a privileged white guy under the banner of a minority representative is honestly laughable. But don't you dare put on a sombrero on Halloween or celebrate Cinco de Mayo.

I suppose the one thing we can extrapolate from this is maybe if Elizabeth Warren had admitted to not being Native American but went around calling herself "Little White Dove" and learned a few words from the movie Windtalkers during her first bid for the Senate, she'd still be a Democratic darling rather than a laughingstock.

As in Boarding School Bobby, Robert O'Rourke, elitist Columbia Universty Grad, son of a local politician/judge, got elected by using eminent domain to kill small businesses in San Antonio in order to give their land to fat-cat father in law - pushing an urban renewal plan involving his wealthy father-in-law, a multi-national real estate investor once described as “the richest man in El Paso."

Bobby who got his dad to whitewash a DUI wreck and his attempted evasion. Bobby the Burglar who got popped for unlawful entry but his daddy bailed him out. Bobby who never held a private sector job and has been a legislator for almost all his adult life.

Bobby who partnered with his mother.in several business ventures, who ran a family furniture store that was targeted by the IRS in a $630,000 tax fraud case in 2010. Bobby who illegally profited from tech IPOs while in Congress, including Twitter's IPO, violations of the Stop Trading On Congressional Knowledge (STOCK) Act. His money comes mainly from out of state.

Yea, that guy. Call him what he is: Boarding School Bobby from here on out please.

The press has whitewashed the hell out of him. I'd jail every one of the reporters doing this as a crime against the people by misinforming them deliberately in order to influence the election - or else force them to declare their support overtly and loudly so people realize its not news, its propaganda.

Africa Subsaharan
Zimbabwe: War Vets Threaten Zanu-PF Bigwigs
[All Africa] War veterans yesterday petitioned the Zanu PF leadership demanding the removal of former Cabinet ministers from their full-time positions in the party, threatening to remove the bigwigs from their offices if their demands are not met.

According to the petition addressed to Zanu PF chairperson Oppah Muchinguri and obtained by this publication last night, the former fighters want the party's secretary for administration Obert Mpofu, secretary for health David Parirenyatwa, commissar Engelbert Rugeje, secretary for finance Patrick Chinamasa and politburo member Sydney Sekeremayi fired.

The war veterans accuse the Zanu PF heavyweights of sabotaging President Emmerson Mnangagwa.

Rugeje, who retired from the army after the coup that toppled former president Bob Muggsy Mugabe
Nonagenarian President-for-Life of Zim-bob-we who turned the former Breadbasket of Africa into the African Basket Case. Dumped in November 2017 when the Missus decided she wanted to be president, and opposed heer might against Crocodile Mnangawa Important safety tip: If your opponent goes by the name Crocodile andf your title is Shopper in Chief let him win....
in November last year, is being targeted for allegedly failing to campaign for Mnangagwa ahead of the July 30 elections.

Mnangagwa narrowly avoided a run-off against MDC Alliance leader Nelson Chamisa after registering a 50,6 % victory.

Chamisa has refused to concede defeat saying the election result was manipulated in favour of Mnangagwa.

The petition was signed yesterday by war veterans representatives from 10 provinces.

The war veterans claimed it was difficult to restructure the party when there were still some members aligned to the G40 faction, which backed Mugabe at the height of Zanu PF's succession wars.

The former fighters, who supported Mnangagwa during his tussle for control of the ruling party with G40, threatened to storm the Zanu PF headquarters to remove the targeted officials if the party failed to take action.

"Consequently, in pursuit of our constitutional mandate as custodians of the Zim-bob-wean people's revolution, as patriots, loyal and stockholders of Zanu PF, we demand, as we hereby do through the copy of this petition, that the following members relinquish their posts and vacate offices at the Zanu PF headquarters with immediate effect," reads part of the petition.

"Failure to do so, we, as veterans of the liberation struggle, shall force them out of the offices for the good of the people's revolution.

"Cde Obert Mpofu needs to clear the corruption allegations levelled against him before resuming office."

The war veterans said they wanted the Zanu PF commissariat to be overhauled immediately.

"Their involvement in the primary elections affected the president's performance in harmonised elections. It leaves us with more questions than answers where the President gets 50,6% while MPs could get more than 73%. We need an uncompromising team of dedicated cadres to take us to the 2023 elections," the petition added.

"Sekeramayi, Parirenyatwa and Chinamasa's unrepentant behaviour towards the new dispensation: Though we are not opposed to their ideas of having permanent appointments, these elements are known for factionalism and cannot be entrusted with such responsibility."

Journalist killed in Hattar over family feud, police claim
[DAWN] HARIPUR: Gunmen killed a local journalist in Hattar village here on Tuesday.

The police claimed that the killing wasn’t an act of terrorism and instead, a family feud was to blame.

SHO of Hattar cop shoppe Ali Jadoon told Dawn that Sohail Khan, a correspondent of local Urdu daily K2 Times was targeted when he was returning in car after dropping children off at a school near Mohallah Rariyan.

He said the 28-year-old died of bullet injuries on the spot, while the attackers fled.

The SHO said the dear departed’s father-in-law was killed by his (Sohail’s) brother, Amir Khan, few years ago over a family dispute and that the killer was placed in durance vile
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
a fortnight ago after being on the lam for eight years.

He said Sohail’s family suspected the involvement of some family members in the arrest.

The SHO said though the family had yet to name suspects, the circumstantial evidence showed that Sohail was killed over a family feud and not over journalistic work or in an act of terrorism.

US imposes sanctions on Iraq-based money exchange for Islamic State ties
[Ynet] The US Treasury imposed sanctions on Wednesday on an Iraq-based money services business, Afaq Dubai, believed to be moving funds for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Death Eater group.

The US Treasury's Office of Foreign Assets Control added Afaq Dubai to its list of specially designated global murderous Moslems for "assisting in, sponsoring or providing financial, material or technical support" for the Islamic State group, the department said in a statement.

The Treasury action followed a Pentagon decision on Oct. 11 targeting a financial group supporting Islamic State. The Treasury said the moves are part of a broader US effort to target a network of money services businesses that enable Islamic State to carry out operations across the Middle East.

In September, US Treasury took action against Islamic State financial controllers with ties in the Caribbean and the Middle East. It took action against a money exchange group in Syria in December 2016.
Rudaw adds:
In May 2018, Afaq Dubai was one of three money exchanges that received $3 million from a Jordan-based ISIS financier, according to the US Treasury.

The Iraq-based business is part of a complex financial network ISIS operates across the Middle East, said Sigal Mandelker, Treasury under secretary for terrorism and financial intelligence.

"Even as ISIS’s hold on territory is eliminated, we will continue to search for and shut down illicit financial networks ISIS utilizes to fund terror attacks and sustain operations," said Mandelker.

The designation follows on the heels of arrests of ten suspected ISIS financiers in Erbil and Baghdad. They were allegedly members of the al-Rawi financial network.

Trump ditches 144-year-old postal pact that boosts Chinese retailers
Thank you President Trump and advisors. Now inspect every package for fentanyl.
[WashingtonPost] President Trump moved Wednesday to withdraw from a 144-year-old international postal agreement that enables businesses in China to mail small packages to the United States at a hefty discount, an arrangement government officials said boosts foreign competitors and costs the U.S. Postal Service roughly $170 million per year.

Trump’s notice to exit from the Universal Postal Union (UPU) treaty comes as the White House cranks up the pressure on Beijing to drop what it calls predatory commercial practices, including swiping trade secrets from American companies operating in China.

"This has been a long-standing, long-festering problem," said Robert Taub, chairman of the Postal Regulatory Commission, an independent federal agency.

"The current system has led to the United States subsidizing the imports of small packages from other countries," said Jeff Adams, spokesman for the U.S. Postal Service.

Under the treaty, which sets fees that national carriers in 192 countries charge for mail delivery, the U.S. Postal Service bills China-based companies at a sharply discounted rate for parcels that weigh less than 4.4 pounds.

Trump administration officials say the leg up, granted under a 1969 provision, was intended to promote growth in poor countries. But it remained in place after China became an e-commerce powerhouse.

The deal has allowed the country to flood the United States with cheap goods at shipping discounts of up to 70 percent, putting American companies at a disadvantage and straining the U.S. mail system while fueling growth abroad, Taub said.

That resulted in $170 million in losses for the post office last year.

[AsiaTimes] Defense Minister makes second visit to Vietnam this year to highlight operation to remedy toxic legacy from war in the 1960s, while prominent dissident 'Mother Mushroom' (Nguyen Ngoc Nhu Quynh) was released and allowed to fly to the US.

US Defense Secretary Jim Mattis toured a former Agent Orange storage site in southern Vietnam on Wednesday, during a visit to boost ties with its former foe and counter China’s military assertiveness in the region.

It was Mattis’ second visit to Vietnam this year and served as a reminder of the disturbing legacy of the war that has left hundreds of thousands of Vietnamese with serious birth defects and cancer.

Woman dies after falling from 27th floor while taking selfie
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A video was captured of a Portuguese woman named Sandra Manuela Da Costa Macedo, 44, who died after attempting to take a selfie on the balcony of the 27th floor.

Friends paid tribute to Ms Macedo, believed to be mother of two, by online posts, saying that she had recently moved to Panama City.

The video in the following tweet shows the moment Ms Macedo falls from the balcony after sitting on the railing to take a selfie.

The video was shot by construction workers nearby, who feared she would fall when they saw her taking the selfies.

According to local media, the police think she was knocked off balance by wind, after spending several minutes taking selfies.

After the tragedy, Panama’s Fire Service published a warning on its official Twitter account saying: "Don’t risk your life for a selfie."

The 10 Most Destructive Americans of My 8 Decades
[American Thinker] America has undergone enormous change during the nearly eight decades of my life. Today, America is a bitterly divided, poorly educated and morally fragile society with so-called mainstream politicians pushing cynical identity politics, socialism and open borders. The president of the United States is threatened with impeachment because the other side doesn’t like him. The once reasonably unbiased American media has evolved into a hysterical left wing mob. How could the stable and reasonably cohesive America of the 1950s have reached this point in just one lifetime? Who are the main culprits? Here’s my list of the 10 most destructive Americans of the last 80 years.

#7  I think a lot of people these days don't remember Lyndon Johnson but the whole country went nuts during the 1960s, was damn near torn apart, and LBJ was the reason. I continue to wonder at the irony of LBJ claiming to fight communism in Vietnam while he implemented his communist inspired Great Society policies here in this country. He claimed to be fighting for democracy but he sent draftees, who were deemed too young to be allowed to vote, into harm's way to defend South Vietnamese regimes that were little more than military dictatorships.

I'm sure even most Rantburgers weren't alive during Franklin Roosevelt's administration. But I think FDR and LBJ should occupy the #1 and #2 positions. Social Security, Medicare, Affirmative Action and HUD typify the modern Democrat approach with big government interference in the lives of people. ObamaCare is the direct descendant of these communist based policies that could eventually lead to the bankruptcy and downfall of our nation. The taxes take enormous chunks out of our incomes which in turn erodes our freedom. But even these taxes are not enough and we continue to incur astronomical amounts of debt.

We are still suffering from the policies that FDR and LBJ implemented and I don't know how we can ever recover from them.

Kerry may be a treasonous bastard but he thankfully never had the kind of power that FDR or LBJ had.

Interesting that, instead of even mentioning Richard Nixon, the writer goes after Mark Felt. Nixon was a Boy Scout compared to Cronkite's beloved Kennedys.

Twitter releases 10 million tweets from foreign influence efforts
[AlAhram] Twitter on Wednesday released data on foreign influence campaigns on its platform showing some 10 million tweets, mostly from Russia, dating back as far as 2009.
Golly — that was mostly on President Barack Hussein Obama’s watch. Why did he do nothing about it?
Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,-based Twitter said it was releasing detailed data on previously disclosed misinformation efforts to allow researchers to gain more insight into the campaigns.

"In line with our strong principles of transparency and with the goal of improving understanding of foreign influence and information campaigns, we are releasing the full, comprehensive archives of the tweets and media that are connected with these two previously disclosed and potentially state-backed operations on our service," said a statement from Twitter trust and safety chief Vijaya Gadde and site integrity head Yoel Roth.

"We are making this data available with the goal of encouraging open research and investigation of these behaviors from researchers and academics around the world."

Twitter last year banned some Russia-based accounts accused of spreading misinformation during the 2016 US election, and earlier this year acknowledged that hundreds of accounts from Russia and Iran were engaged in manipulation efforts.

Facebook has uncovered similar efforts and has stepped up its efforts to curb foreign influence.

In Wednesday's statement, Twitter said influence campaign efforts came from 3,841 accounts originating in Russia, and 770 potentially originating in Iran.

They included more than 10 million tweets and more than two million images and videos from as early as 2009.

"It is clear that information operations and coordinated inauthentic behavior will not cease," Twitter said.

"These types of tactics have been around for far longer than Twitter has existed -- they will adapt and change as the geopolitical terrain evolves worldwide and as new technologies emerge. For our part, we are committed to understanding how bad-faith actors use our services."

Researchers at the Atlantic Council, who had early access to analyze the Twitter data, the influence campaigns sought to exploit vulnerabilities in a polarized electorate.

"The Russian and Iranian troll farm operations show that American society was deeply vulnerable, not to all troll farm operations, but to troll accounts of a particular type," said a blog post from the group's Digital Forensic Research Lab.

"That type hid behind carefully crafted personalities, produced original and engaging content, infiltrated activist and engaged communities, and posted in hyper-partisan, polarizing terms."

The UN in Syria: years of failed peace efforts
[OUTLINE] Staffan de Mistura announced Wednesday he will resign as UN envoy to Syria, becoming the third person to quit the post after years of fruitless efforts to end the country's war.

De Mistura, who said he was leaving for "purely personal reasons", organised nine rounds of indirect negotiations in Geneva and Vienna between the warring parties, without results.

The war, which broke out in March 2011, has left 360,000 dead and displaced more than half of the population, millions of whom have fled the country.

Syrian Army snipers wreak havoc on Turkish-backed rebels in northwest Hama
[AlMasdar] Opposition activists reported on Wednesday morning that two of their fighters were killed by Syrian Arab Army snipers last night.

On Tuesday night, the Syrian Arab Army snipers in western Hama killed two fighters from the Ottoman Turkish-backed National Liberation Front near the Beit Ras Bridge.

The Syrian Army soldiers used thermal sniper rifles near the bridge, indicating that they had received new weapons.

The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) has received new sniper rifles from the Russian Federation that have now been put to use near the Idlib buffer zone.

Since the jihadist rebels have refused to leave the designated buffer zone in the Aleppo, Idlib, Hama, and Latakia provinces, the Syrian Arab Army has moved more troops towards the front-lines in anticipation of a potential battle with Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
and the NLF.

While the Russian and Ottoman Turkish forces work to force out the jihadist rebels from this buffer zone, the Syrian Arab Army will mobilize more troops to this front in case the opposition fighters don’t leave.

Britain
Suspicious package found near British parliament
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Police on Wednesday carried out a controlled kaboom on a suspicious package found in central London near the British parliament.

Officers were called to the gardens next to the River Thames during the afternoon and emergency services were at the scene, a police front man said.

An AFP photographer on the spot saw a bomb disposal robot being deployed in the area and a controlled kaboom was heard.

A building where many MPs have their offices was also cordoned off along with Victoria Embankment which leads to parliament.

The area was targeted in a terror attack last year when Khalid Masood, mowed down and killed five pedestrians before fatally stabbing a police officer outside the parliament building.

A man who crashed his car into the security barriers outside parliament in August is also suspected of attempting an attack.

Although the package was later found not to be suspicious, emergency services were called to gardens next to the River Thames during the afternoon, a police front man says.

“We’ve just been told it’s all been stood down — non-suspicious,” he tells AFP.
