Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl to plead guilty to desertion, misbehavior
Army Sgt. Bowe Bergdahl, who was held captive by the Taliban for half a decade after abandoning his Afghanistan post, is expected to plead guilty to desertion and misbehavior before the enemy, two individuals with knowledge of the case said.

Bergdahl's decision to plead guilty rather than face trial marks another twist in an eight-year drama that caused the nation to wrestle with difficult questions of loyalty, negotiating with hostage takers and America's commitment not to leave its troops behind. President Donald Trump has called Bergdahl a "no-good traitor" who "should have been executed."

The decision by the 31-year-old Idaho native leaves open whether he will return to captivity for years ‐ this time in a U.S. prison ‐ or receive a lesser sentence that reflects the time the Taliban held him under brutal conditions. He says he had been caged, kept in darkness, beaten and chained to a bed.

Bergdahl could face up to five years on the desertion charge and a life sentence for misbehavior.

‘Calm Before the Storm': Trump Makes Cryptic Remark at Military Dinner
[ABC] President Donald Trump made a series of cryptic remarks during a pre-dinner photo session with his top military advisers and their spouses Thursday night in the State Dining Room of the White House.

As photographers snapped pictures and recorded video, Trump asked reporters: "You guys know what this represents?"

"Maybe it’s the calm before the storm," he said, answering his own question.

Jobless Rate Slides to 4.2 % Despite Hurricanes
[Bloomberg] The number of workers on U.S. payrolls declined last month for the first time since 2010, reflecting major disruptions from hurricanes Harvey and Irma, Labor Department figures showed Friday. The jobless rate fell to a new 16-year-low while wage gains accelerated.

Hillary Clinton: I will ‘Keep Fighting’ for More Gun Control
[BREITBART] Perennial Presidential Campaigner Hillary Crooked Hillary Clinton
... former first lady, former secretary of state, former presidential candidate, Conqueror of Benghazi, Heroine of Tuzla, formerly described by her supporters as the smartest woman in the world, usually described by the rest of us as The Thing That Wouldn't Go Away...
said she’ll "keep speaking out" for gun control Wednesday on The Tonight Show with Jimmy Fallon.

Clinton lamented Congressional inaction on gun control, saying, "I can’t believe that one whole political party in the greatest country on Earth is totally sold to the gun lobby and will do whatever they are ordered to do, despite the loss of life."

The former Democratic presidential candidate criticized the fact that one of President Trump’s first actions on guns was to repeal Barack Obama
I am the change that you seek...
’s Social Security gun ban and she claimed that the repeal allows people with mental problems to purchase guns. She said, "This makes no sense, and the vast majority of Americans, and the vast majority of gun owners know we need common-sense gun safety measures, so I’m going to keep fighting for it."

If they got their way, only "special" people would have firearms, and their ability to beat the Pubs over the head with a "now perverted / outdated, etc." Second Amendment would no longer be an argument.

They'll continue to stir up their minions while taking no real measures (while blaming the Pubs, of course.) towards their stated goal, while, more importantly, keeping the $-flow going.

Never letting a crisis go to waste is for the children, after all. / sarc

#4  Another thing that doesn't add up. Obviously the shooter"meticulously" planned his attack. By all accounts he was neither stupid nor a raving lunatic. So why would he bring roughly two dozen guns - 16 of which were rifles? Even factoring in malfunction and possible escape he could accomplish his goals with less than half the weaponry.

#9  We heard Tank Farm was hit earlier this week. Apparently the outer 'tank shells' were all that were damaged. Inner dual-wall tanks (the seriously thick ones) were okay. Patched and re-painted by Monday afternoon.

System worked sort of as designed as airport outer tank shells are rated to protect the inner dual-walled tanks in case of a plane running into them (but not exploding).

#10  The longer this whole thing drags on without any clear indication of a motive, the more I'm inclined to suspect that Paddock was radicalized online by islamists (ISIS, or whoever) and this was a well-planned and executed terrorist attack on their behalf.

That is my operating hypothesis until proven otherwise and I'm basing it on the evidence we have been given thus far, which has all the hallmarks of a terrorist attack.

I'm also basing it on the fact that the authorities have been very tight lipped about motive and it's been FIVE days since the attack. I find it hard to believe they know nothing at this point. They most surely do, they're just not telling us for some reason.

#30  I believe he was expecting a different outcome after the first 10 minute volley. Since he had never done something as hideous as this, he brought in as many weapons as he could as a security blanket when he was not under the influence.

When the expected post fire fight never materialized with police (the SWAT people simply isolated the area but stayed back after the shooting stopped) and possibly because he got wasted in order to get the nerve to do this, he ended up committing suicide sometime during the event because of drunken mood swings that would occur after the massacre he just committed.

I do think he was influenced by the flame throwing media against traditional Americans. I also think he was competing with his father, who was once on the 10 most wanted FBI list nationally.

Yes. He was a bad guy.

Interesting. Years ago story made the rounds about a mysterious horse track gambler in Pennsylvania who was dubbed Mr. Saturday Night. This individual showed up occasionally, placed big bets that always seemed to be winners, then would disappear for some length of time. It was opined that Mr. Saturday Night was what is called in mob parlance a "bridge jumper," a bagman who was betting other people's money and would have no recourse but to jump off a bridge - commit suicide - if the bet was lost.

Hamas leader responsible for West Bank terror attacks made 2nd-in-command
[Ynet] Al-Arouri, in charge of Hamas' military wing in W. Bank, is appointed dep. head of Hamas' political bureau; last June, al-Arouri and other Hamas officials were forced to leave Qatar as part of Gulf states diplomatic crisis, after US exerted pressure on Qatar to oust them.

Senior Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", official Saleh al-Arouri, who is in charge of the organization's military wing in the West Bank, was officially appointed deputy head of the Hamas political bureau in the Gazoo Strip on Thursday. The appointment makes al-Arouri Hamas' second-in-command in the terrorist group turned political party, after Hamas Leader Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...

Hamas blocks reconciliation until agreement reached with Israel
[Ynet] Though PA and Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", seemed to be moving toward a reconciliation earlier in the week, the situation remains precarious, with PA Pres. Abbas stating he will not tolerate illegal weapons in Gazoo, and Hamas demanding agreement with Israel before dismantling its military wing.
More Hamas demands are listed at the link, though the details don't really matter -- the game has been played out before.

Why beer makes you happy - and it's not just the alcohol
[DPA-INTERNATIONAL] Know that warm, fuzzy feeling you get when you've got a beer in your hand after a long day's work? It might not just be the alcohol that's making you feel that way.

According to new research by the University of Erlangen-Nuremberg in Germany, there's an ingredient in beer that activates the brain's reward centre in a similar way to dopamine.

Hordenine, which is found in beer malt, among other things, has a similar effect to the so-called "happy hormone." Researchers have found that hordenine and dopamine both stimulate the so-called dopamine receptor D2 in the brain.

Scientists are yet to establish whether the amount of hordenine contained in beer can produce a noticeable effect on the reward centre. However,
it was a brave man who first ate an oyster...
results so far indicate that hordenine could indeed contribute to boosting the drinker's mood, the researchers said in a statement.

The combination of hordenine and alcohol is most likely to blame for the fact that beer makes people feel good, according to researcher Monika Pischetsrieder. Salsolinol, which is found in chocolate, has the same effect as hordenine, she adds.

Several studies are currently attempting to establish how much hordenine beer contains, and how much of it actually reaches the brain.

So far, Pischetsrieder says, no single ingredient has been found in food or drink that can make us feel happy. Scientists say it is mostly combinations of substances that create a feeling of well-being. With crisps, for example, it is carbohydrates and fat.

The study on hordenine, which was published in the specialist magazine Scientific Reports, started with a computer-based probe involving 13,000 food ingredients.

Researchers assessed whether those ingredients could make it to the dopamine receptor D2. To do that, they set up a digital molecule database, from which 17 substances were selected for laboratory tests.

"It is already surprising that, without us specifically looking at the luxury foodstuffs group, a beer ingredient leads to the activation of the dopamine receptor D2," Pischetsrieder says.

Civil rights law doesn’t apply to transgender workers, says Justice Department memo
[MCCLATCHYDC] The U.S. Department of Justice has walked back a memo issued under President Barack Obama
Because I won...
that extended anti-discrimination protections to transgender workers, according to documents obtained by Buzzfeed News.

Attorney General Jeff Sessions reportedly sent a letter to U.S. attorneys saying the Justice Department will no longer interpret the 1964 Civil Rights Act’s Title VII section as protecting transgender workers from discrimination based on their gender identity.

"Title VII’s prohibition on sex discrimination encompasses discrimination between men and women but does not encompass discrimination based on gender identity per se, including transgender status," Sessions reportedly wrote.

The 1964 law bans discrimination in the workplace, and in 2014 the B.O. regime joined the growing chorus of LGBT activists who said it also should cover the discrimination claims of transgender people, according to Vox.

Russian subs hit terrorist targets with ‘Kalibr’ cruise missiles in Syria
[RT] Russian submarines have fired Kalibr cruise missiles from the Mediterranean hitting terrorist targets in Syria, the Defense Ministry said. The strikes were to support Syrian troops waging ground offensive in Deir-ez-Zor province.

The submarines ’Veliky Novgorod’ and ’Kolpino’ launched 10 missiles on Thursday when patrolling the Mediterranean, ministry front man General Igor Konashenkov told news hounds.

The front man said the submarines fired the missiles while submerged.

Before the missile strikes, Russian surveillance detected Islamic State

(IS, formerly ISIS/ISIS) targets in Deir-ez-Zor province, including command centers, large ammunition depots and hangars housing terrorists' armored vehicles, the ministry added.

"To hit these targets, Velikiy Novgorod and Kolpino submarines of the Black Sea Fleet have performed two multiple launches of Kalibr cruise missiles from the Mediterranean," the front man said.

Report: 8 terrorists surrender with 9 hostages in Marawi
[Inquirer] Eight gunmen believed to be Maute militants emerged from the battle zone in Marawi and surrendered to the military on Wednesday. The gunmen also turned over nine hostages to the military, according to Zia Alonto Adiong, spokesman for the Lanao del Sur crisis management committee. Adiong gave no more details, but he said the development was “clear evidence we are approaching the end of the war.”

Earlier reports said 17 hostages emerged from the battle zone as the military hit Maute positions with airstrikes. But the Joint Task Force Ranao could not confirm those reports. Romeo Brawner, deputy commander of the task force, said he could confirm only the surrender of three Maute gunmen and the rescue of five hostages over two weeks ago and the rescue of Catholic priest Teresito Soganub before that.

Brawner also said he could also confirm the rescue of 1,733 hostages and civilians since May 23, when Maute and Abu Sayyaf rebels rampaged across Marawi. More than 800 people have died in the fighting, including 155 government troops, as of Monday.

Brawner said the military continued to persuade the remaining terrorists in the city to surrender. He said, "We are also trying to convince them to release the hostages and to surrender so that the crisis here will be over, but if they don’t want to surrender and continue fighting, our troops will finish them."

Brawner said it was likely the terrorists would eventually use the hostages as human shields to protect themselves as they escaped from Marawi. Going by information from escaped or rescued hostages, the military said 46 hostages, some of them children, remained in the hands of the terrorists.

Qatar, U.S. hold workshop on fighting terrorism financing
[NEWS.XINHUANET] Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
and the United States are holding a workship on fighting terror financing as part of their joint efforts to combat terrorism, local media reported Thursday.

The two-day technical exchange workshop on Domestic Designation opened on Wednesday, in line with the efforts by Qatar to establish an integrated and operational system for domestic designation, the reports said.

The opening session was chaired by Chairman of Qatar's National Anti-Money Laundering and Terrorism Financing Committee Sheikh Fahad bin Faisal Al Thani, and attended by legal experts, law enforcement officials and technicians at all levels.

U.S. officials from the Justice and State departments would exchange technical information and expertise with Qatari counterparts on anti-money laundering and combating terror funding, the reports said.

Sheikh Fahad mentioned that the workshop aimed at providing technical assistance and exchanging experiences between Qatar and the U.S. in the Domestic Designation system.

He also said that a workship was held last week already with the participation of experts from the U.S. Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) on financial investigations.

The latest workshop was held under the memorandum of understanding (MoU) on combating terrorism financing signed in July between Qatar and the U.S. Qatar was the first country to sign an executive programme with Washington to fight terrorism.

On July 11, Qatar and the U.S. signed the MoU on combatting terrorism and its financing during the visit of U.S. Secretary of State Rex Tillerson to Doha.

Baghdad Bomb and Bullet Bulletin

1 Iraqi militiaman dies in gunfight at check point

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) One tribal fighter was killed and two others were wounded on Thursday when unidentified gunmen attacked their checkpoint south of Baghdad, according to security sources.

Almaalomah website quoted the sources saying that individuals with assault rifles attacked a checkpoint belonging to the Tribal Mobilization (pro-government Sunni paramilitary forces), and killing one and wounding two.

A monthly count by the United Nations Assistance Mission in Iraq (UNAMI), which excludes security members deaths, said 196 civilians were killed, while 381 others were wounded due to violence and armed conflicts during the month of September. The fatalities included 10 foreign nationals. Baghdad was the most affected province with 37 deaths and 157 injuries.

The Iraqi capital has seen almost daily bombings and armed attacks against security members, paramilitary troops and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake Islamic State-occupied areas in 2016.

While most of of the explosions and attacks went without a claim of responsibility, Islamic State has claimed several incidents.

Some security observers believe that even after Islamic State’s main havens across Iraqi provinces are conquered, the group may still constitute a security threat through sleeper cells and lone wolf attacks. The Iraqi government is currently battling the group out of its last havens in Kirkuk and Anbar.

1 dead in bombing attack in al-Dawanem region

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A civilian was killed and three others were wounded in a bomb blast south of Baghdad, a police source said on Thursday.

“A bomb placed near stores in al-Dawanem region, south Baghdad, went off leaving a civilian killed and three others wounded,” the source said.

“Security troops cordoned off the blast spot. The injured were taken to hospital, while the victim’s body was taken to forensic medicine department,” he added.

5 Bad Guys die near Qaim

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State militants have killed a family as they tried to escape in western Anbar, a security source was quoted saying on Thursday.

“IS militants killed in the evening a family which tried escaping in the desert of Qaim,” the source told Alghad Press.

The militant group, according to the source, “previously threatened people against escaping or they would be killed along with their families.”

In related news, five militants were killed, while an explosive workshop was destroyed in an airstrike in Qaim.

“U.S.-led Coalition jets pounded IS locations in Qaim,” the source said. “The shelling left five IS militants, including a security chief, and an explosive workshop destroyed.”

3 ISIS suicide bombers die in Ramadi

ِAnbar (IraqiNews.com) Three Islamic State militants were killed in confrontations, south of Ramadi, Anbar Operations Command announced.

“Security services managed to kill three IS suicide attackers after confrontations in al-Tash region, south of Ramadi,” a source from the command told AlSumaria News on Thursday.

“Troops currently controls the whole region after repulsing the infiltration attempt,” the source, who preferred anonymity, said.

Ramadi was recaptured by government and tribal forces from IS in December 2015, however, several occasional attacks by the group have occurred since then.

Maj. Gen. Hadi Rezeij, Anbar police chief, said on Sunday fifty IS militants were killed as security thwarted an attack to target regions in south and west of Ramadi

The militant group invaded, late September, al-Tash and the 5th Kilometer regions, south and west of Ramadi. The militants reportedly took over al-Tash and al-Jamea (university) areas after invading them with 20 pickup trucks, however, troops were able to repulse the attack. 40 IS militants were killed, while three injured others were wounded, Brig. Gen. Saad Maan, spokesperson of Baghdad Operations said in a press conference.

Iraqi army announced the total recapture of the town of Annah, hours after recapturing neighboring Rayhana area, earlier in September. Troops also liberated Akashat region, between Rutba town, on borders with Jordan, and Qaim, on borders with Syria.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
90 percent of Syrian territory under control by Syria gov.
Around 90 percent of Syria’s territory has been liberated from terrorist groups, Andrey Novikov, the head of the Commonwealth of Independent States Anti-Terrorism Center, told Sputnik.

“According to the estimates of the military, 90 percent of Syria’s territory has been freed of terrorist groups, which is a very positive result,” Novikov said.

In early September, the Syrian government troops, backed by Russian airstrikes, broke a three-yearISIL blockade to the west and south of Deir ez-Zor.

On Monday, the Syrian Army crossed the Euphrates River with the support of the Russian Aerospace Forces near Deir ez-Zor, dislodging militants from a number of settlements, and are currently developing an offensive eastward.

Militants of the ISIL terrorist group, suffering losses in Syria are relocating to Pakistan, Andrey Novikov added.

“Relocation of significant Daesh forces from Syria to Iraq to the territory of Waziristan (Pakistan) with further redistribution observed since the fall of 2016. In other words, resolution of military and political tasks in Syria lowers the number of armed radical individuals physically on one hand, but on the other it forces ISIL to not only change their tactics but also the geography of upcoming activities,” Novikov said, referring to Arabic acronym of ISIL.

“The majority of terrorists will return to their origin countries, or go to other states (both CIS and the European Union) via the routes they used to leave for conflict zones. In practice, this means using connecting flights from Turkey to airports of Commonwealth’s [CIS] cities. Special research shows that the Balkan route is especially in demand,” the head of the Commonwealth of Independent States Anti-Terrorism Center added.

According to Novikov, Hungary and Poland are also used as transit countries, as well as Romania and Switzerland to a lesser extent.

“A new model of extremism is exported from combat zones to Central Asian nations, it was modernized technologically and tactically, adapted to the specifics of the multinational composition of participants,” Novikov added.

Afghanistan
Butchers bill in Uruzgan rises to 24
At least 24 Afghan security forces were killed in the past four days in clashes in central Uruzgan province, local officials confirmed on Thursday.

The clashes started four days ago in Chora district of the province, officials said adding that 18 army soldiers and six policemen were killed.

“Nearly 30 Taliban insurgents were also killed in clashes,” officials said adding that “some parts of the district fell to the Taliban but with the arrival of reinforcements, we have re-taken the areas.”

The Ministry of Defense confirmed the battle but said at least 20 soldiers were killed in the fighting.

Defense Ministry spokesman Dawlat Waziri told reporters at a press briefing that the Taliban launched a coordinated attack on government forces’ outposts in Chora district in Uruzgan, where the reinforcements were sent but despite many efforts they could not save the forces.

“The government forces showed encouragement and they resisted but unfortunately some soldiers were martyred due to a high pressure from the enemy and as our (reinforcement) forces could not reach the area in time. The ministry of defense sends its condolences to their families and wish peace for their departed souls,” he said.

The Chief Executive Abdullah Abdullah meanwhile said at a gathering in Kabul that more attention should be paid to the families of security forces killed in battle.

“It is an honor to remember the sacrifices of the Afghan forces and we send our condolences to the families of those who died while defending their country,” he said.

Photographs meanwhile were posted of the fallen soldiers on social media platforms on Thursday – which drove home the fact that so many troops are losing their lives while fighting for their country.

“The problems inside government between leaders results in an inattention to the security forces who sacrifice their lives,” said Ahmad, a resident of Kabul.

“Our forces are sacrificing their lives every day. They are not receiving proper equipment, food and other assistance on the battlefield,” said Haroon Motarif, a civil society activist in Kabul.

Taliban has confirmed the clash.

Russian hackers stole U.S. cyber secrets from NSA
[REUTERS] Russian government-backed hackers stole highly classified U.S. cyber secrets in 2015 from the National Security Agency after a contractor put information on his home computer, the Wall Street Journal reported on Thursday, citing unnamed sources.
The NSA really has no excuse for being careless about the security of their files.
The theft included information on penetrating foreign computer networks and protecting against cyber attacks and is likely to be viewed as one of the most significant security breaches to date, the newspaper reported.

The NSA declined to comment, citing agency policy "never to comment on our affiliates or personnel issues." Rooters was not able to independently verify the report.

If confirmed, the hack would mark the latest in a series of breaches of classified data from the secretive intelligence agency, including the 2013 leaks of data on classified U.S. surveillance programs by contractor Edward Snowden.

Republican U.S. Senator Ben Sasse, a member of the Senate Armed Services Committee, said in a statement that, if true, the details in the report were alarming.

"The NSA needs to get its head out of the sand and solve its contractor problem," Sasse said. "Russia is a clear adversary in cyberspace and we can’t afford these self-inflicted injuries."
Assuming it was the Russians, and not someone like the CIA pretending to be Russian.

Turkey: 5 Kurdish militants killed near Mediterranean coast
[Ynet] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

...and if you can't believe the state-run news agency who can you believe?...
says security forces have killed five suspected Kurdish gunnies in an operation close to a tourist resort near the Mediterranean coast.

Anadolu Agency said a group of seven suspected members of the Kurdistan Workers' Party, or PKK, were located Thursday in a forest area in the town of Koycegiz, north of the resort of Marmaris. Five were killed in a joint operation by police and the gendarmerie while two gunnies escaped.

The operation came as Interior Minister Suleyman Soylu said that the Kurdish bully boys, who infiltrate from Iraq and Syria by land for attacks, were trying to reach Turkey's Mediterranean coast by sea from the Syria's coastal Latikia region. The PKK is waging a three-decade long insurgency that has killed tens of thousands of people.

CNN: Mueller's team met with Russia dossier author last summer
Washington (CNN) Special Counsel Robert Mueller's investigators met this past summer with the former British spy whose dossier on alleged Russian efforts to aid the Trump campaign spawned months of investigations that have hobbled the Trump administration, according to two people familiar with the matter.
"Two people familiar".... but unnamed of course.
Information from Christopher Steele, a former MI-6 officer, could help investigators determine whether contacts between people associated with the Trump campaign and suspected Russian operatives broke any laws.
Well, did it "help investigators" or no? Apparently not.
CNN has learned that the FBI and the US intelligence community last year took the Steele dossier more seriously than the agencies have publicly acknowledged. James Clapper, then the director of national intelligence, said in a January 2017 statement that the intelligence community had "not made any judgment that the information in this document is reliable."
And of course we all take Jim Clapper seriously.
The intelligence agencies, particularly the CIA, and the FBI took Steele's research seriously enough that they kept it out of a publicly-released January report on Russian meddling in the election in order to not divulge which parts of the dossier they had corroborated and how.

This contrasts with attempts by President Donald Trump and some lawmakers to discredit Steele and the memos he produced.
Ever since the dossier came to light in January, Trump and his allies have repeatedly insisted that it is a complete work of fiction. He told The New York Times this summer that the dossier "was totally made-up stuff." In a series of tweets earlier this year, Trump said the memos were written by a "failed spy" who had relied on "totally made-up facts by sleazebag political operatives."

FOX had THIS STORY yesterday, so CNN had to immediately man the defibrillator.

Donald Trump, the presumptive Republican nominee for president, has come out in support of Brexit, saying the UK would be “better off” outside of the European Union and lamenting the consequences of migration in the continent.

Turkey orders detention of 133 ministry workers
[AlAhram] Ottoman Turkish authorities issued detention warrants for 133 people working in the finance and labour ministries, the state-run Anadolu news agency said on Thursday, as part of a widening crackdown following last year's failed coup attempt.

The suspects were detained for allegedly using ByLock, an encrypted messaging app which the government says was used by the network of U.S.-based holy man Fethullah Gulen
... a Turkish preacher living in Pennsylvania whom the current govt of Turkey considers responsible for all the ills afflicting Turkey and possibly the entire world...
, blamed by Ankara of orchestrating last July's abortive putsch.

Gulen, who has lived in self-imposed exile in Pennsylvania since 1999, denies involvement.

Anadolu said 101 of the suspects were from the finance ministry and 32 from the labour ministry. It said two of the suspects from each ministry were active workers.

Since then more than 50,000 people have been incarcerated

20 Percent Fall in Migrants from Libya to Europe
[AnNahar] The number of illegal migrants colonists leaving Libya for Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
has fallen by 20 percent so far in 2017, the European naval force charged with stopping people trafficking in the Mediterranean said Thursday.

"We have seen a drop in the number of people leaving Libya for Europe this year, around 20 percent," Enrico Credendino, commander of the force, told a news conference aboard the Cantabria ship at the port of La Goulette, near Tunis.

Summer saw a drop of 75 percent compared with the same period in 2016, with the number dying at sea falling by 60 percent, said the head of the EU's anti-trafficking operation dubbed Sophia.

The decrease was explained in particular by the support given to the Libyan coastguard, which received four Italian patrol boats and training.

"With the training we have done, they are now able to more effectively patrol territorial waters, fight all types of crime and also save lives," the commander said.

Deadly bombing and shooting attacks have been mounted by Islamic State Lions of Islam against security forces and Shi’ite Moslems in Saudi Arabia.

Islamic State has for years criticized the leadership of the Western-allied kingdom, the world’s top oil exporter, accusing it of deviating from their strict interpretation of Islam and advancing the interests of their U.S. enemies.

Thursday’s statement said a jacket wallah in the eastern Riyadh district of al-Rimal detonated his vest after security forces surrounded a house used to manufacture boom jackets and explosives.

Another murderous Moslem was killed by security forces after he holed up with firearms in an apartment in the western district of al-Namar, it said.

The third raid was at a horse stable in the southern Riyadh suburb of al-Ghanamia which the statement said had been used as a headquarters.

Security forces seized firearms and bomb-making materials, shown on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
along with a burned out car and a damaged building where the first murderous Moslem had blown himself up. The suspects were not identified.

Security forces closed off several areas in Riyadh on Wednesday, and videos shared online showed a plume of smoke rising at one location.

The plot to attack the defense ministry, uncovered last month, allegedly involved two Yemeni nationals and two Saudi citizens.

A Saudi security source said at the time that one of the detainees was a member of the armed Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
movement, which is locked in a 2-1/2-year-old war with a Saudi-led coalition in Yemen.

Texas lawmakers request $18.7 billion more for Harvey relief
[MCCLATCHYDC] Texas politicians requested another $18.7 billion in federal funds to help with Hurricane Harvey recovery efforts Thursday.

This second wave of relief funding would bring the federal government’s total Harvey recovery investment to nearly $34 billion, if approved by Congress and signed by the president. The House could act on the request as early as next week, when it votes on a supplemental funding bill.

Texas’s two senators, John Cornyn and Ted Cruz, along with members of Congress from both parties and Texas Gov. Greg Abbott, delivered the request in a letter Thursday to House and Senate appropriators.

Their proposal would direct $10 billion to the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers for rebuilding projects that are ready for construction. Another $7 billion would go to low-income housing rebuilding through the Department of Housing and Urban Development’s Community Development Block Grant Recovery program.

Jerry Brown signs bill making California a sanctuary state
[SFGATE] Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, will beef up protections for undocumented immigrants colonists beginning in January under a controversial new law Gov. Jerry Governor Moonbeam Brown
... those who ignore history are bound to repeat it ...
signed Thursday to create a statewide sanctuary policy.

Brown signed the bill and 10 other immigration-related bills on the same day as a critical deadline for immigrants colonists aided by the Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals, or DACA, who must file by Thursday for a final two-year extension before the program is phased out.

SB54, by Senate President Pro Tem Kevin de León, D-Los Angeles, limits when local law enforcement agencies can help federal Immigration and Customs Enforcement agency on deportations cases to instances where an immigrant has been convicted of certain crimes. The law, considered the most-far reaching sanctuary policy of its kind, goes into effect Jan. 1.

"These are uncertain times for undocumented Californians and their families, and this bill strikes a balance that will protect public safety, while bringing a measure of comfort to those families who are now living in fear every day," Brown wrote in his signing message on SB54.

NFL players’ union teamed up with George Soros to fund leftist advocacy groups
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Even before its feud over the national anthem with President Trump, the NFL Players Association wasn’t on the same political team as many of its fans, judging from its contributions to leftist advocacy groups.

Tax documents released by 2ndVote show the NFLPA donated $5,000 in 2015 to the Center for Community Change Action, a group active in the anti-Trump resistance and bankrolled by a host of liberal foundations, including top Democratic donor George Soros
...either Ernst Stavro Blofeld or Auric Goldfinger come true...
’s Foundation for Open Society.

A member of the AFL-CIO, the NFLPA also contributed in 2013 and 2015 to Working America, the AFL-CIO’s community affiliate, which Open Secrets said spent $1 million in 2016 to defeat Mr. Trump.

Working America has since mobilized against the Republican tax-cut framework, denouncing it as the "Trump tax scam."

The NFLPA contributed $5,000 in 2014 to Jobs with Justice, another pro-union group backed by Mr. Soros, and $5,000 in 2013 to the progressive Los Angeles Alliance for a New Economy.

Iraqi militia captures al-Riyad region

Kirkuk (IraqiNews.com) The pro-government paramilitary troops have announced liberation of another region in southeast of Hawija, Kirkuk.

The media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Forces) said in a statement “the 26th brigade, backed by army jets, liberated on Thursday al-Riyad region, southeast of Hawija, and started combing it.”

Earlier on the day, PMFs liberated other villages in north of Hawija.

Joint Operations Command’s top general, Abdul-Amir Yarallah, said army, Federal Police, Rapid Response Forces and the Popular Mobilization forces announced on Thursday taking over the town of Hawija. 98 villages were seized back, while 196 militants were killed.

On Friday, Iraqi Prime Minister Haidar al-Abadi and the Joint Operations Command announced beginning of the second phase of Hawija offensive.

According to Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell, 557 IS militants were killed, while more than 100 villages and regions were liberated during the first phase.

Having recaptured Hawija, Iraqi troops still have only western Anbar’s towns of Rawa and Qaim remain under the militant’s control. Iraqi troops recaptured the town of Annah, a third IS holdout neighboring those two towns, late September.

Troops also managed to recapture Mosul, the group’s former capital, and the neighboring town of Tal Afar early July and late August.

2 more mass graves found in Hawija

Hawija (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi paramilitary forces have run into two more mass graves as Iraq declared the recapture of Islamic State stronghold Hawija, southwest of Kirkuk.

The Popular Mobilization Forces’ media said Thursday the two mass graves were wounded in southwestern Hawija, adding that the relics belonged to both security members and civilians including women and children.

PMFs have recently run into three mass graves of security members executed by Islamic State militants at the villages of Abu Sakhra and al-Therban, also southwest of Hawija, as operations proceeded to clear the town.

Iraq’s Joint Operations Command said earlier on Thursday its forces seized back Hawija after three years of occupation by Islamic State.

Vegas survivor: Shot in leg or not, I'm standing for my president
[FOX] When Thomas Gunderson first heard the noise he thought a speaker had malfunctioned -- or maybe someone had shot off some fireworks.

But then he heard the screams -- and the 28-year-old from Newport Beach, California realized he was standing in the middle of a killing field.

Thomas Gunderson heard the first gunshots, he jumped into action -- helping people to safety outside the Mandalay Bay Resort and Casino.

In the early moments of the Las Vegas massacre Thomas joined other concert-goers to evacuate people to safety.

"There were a lot of people helping and risking their lives for others," Thomas told me in a telephone interview.

In the midst of the chaos and carnage, Thomas kept wondering if what was happening was really happening.

"We heard the rounds going off but we kept thinking, it's fake, it's fake," he said.

A split second later, a bullet plunged into Thomas' leg.

GOP tiptoes into gun restriction debate, with NRA blessing
[MCCLATCHYDC] The National Rifle Association gave Republicans a green light to review whether a device used by the Las Vegas shooter should be made illegal.

It was a surprising turn for the gun lobby, one of the most powerful organizations in U.S. politics, and it allows congressional Republicans to consider banning the "bump stock," which authorities believe Stephen Paddock, the Las Vegas shooter, used to dramatically increase the firepower of his weapons, killing more than 50 people and wounding hundreds.

"The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully-automatic rifles should be subject to additional regulations," said NRA leaders Wayne LaPierre and Chris Cox, as their Republican supporters faced days of pressure to respond to the Las Vegas massacre.

The NRA asked the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms and Explosives "to immediately review whether these devices comply with federal law."

The Right Scoop has the full NRA statement here.
BLUF:
"Despite the fact that the Obama Administration approved the sale of bump stocks on two occasions, the National Rifle Association is calling on the Bureau of Alcohol, Tobacco, Firearms, and Explosives (BATFE), to immediately review whether these devises comply with federal law. The NRA believes that devices designed to allow semi-automatic rifles to function like fully automatic-rifles should be subject to additional regulations."
If my reading of this article is correct, it would appear that the NRA is suggesting these so-called 'bump stocks' be added to the ATF's CLASS-III licensing classification of weapons and devices.

Erdogan: Airspace, borders of Iraqi Kurdish region to be shut soon
[DPA-INTERNATIONAL] Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him...
said Thursday that soon the airspace and borders to the Iraqi Kurdish region will be shut as part of the fallout from the region's recent vote for independence.

"Now, all the air spaces will also be shut down; flights have already been banned. Who will come, how are you going to leave? Soon borders will be closed too. How are you going to go in and out?" Erdogan said in televised remarks from a meeting with community leaders in Ankara.

"This is not over, it has only started," Erdogan said in an escalation of rhetoric, noting that the Iraqi Kurdish region is surrounded by Iran, The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Syria and Iraq itself. The neighbours are concerned their own Kurdish minorities could seek to break away.

Baghdad and Ankara have imposed a ban on international flights to and from Kurdistan's airports as part of the backlash. The Kurds called the move "collective punishment." Baghdad said the flights would resume if the central government assumes control of the airports.

Erdogan was in Iran on Wednesday and both sides stressed their opposition to the referendum held last month, which was also rejected by world powers, including the United States.

Marseille Police Probe 2,000 Euro Payment to Terror Attacker
[Breitbart] Authorities claim the Marseille failed asylum seeker terror attacker Ahmed Hanachi picked up 2,000 euros shortly before he killed two young women in front of a train station on Sunday, fueling speculation about his motives.

Authorities claim the Marseille failed asylum seeker terror attacker Ahmed Hanachi picked up 2,000 euros shortly before he killed two young women in front of a train station on Sunday, fueling speculation about his motives.

Police have questioned why Hanachi received the money leading to speculation the payment may have had something to do with the attack that killed two girls on Sunday.

A source close to the investigation said that police believe "nothing at this time indicates that these sums were given for committing his crimes". The man was a known small-time criminal having been tossed in the clink

has grabbed credit for the incident, police are still working on finding more concrete links between the 29-year-old Tunisian and the terror group.

Tunis Says No Ties Found between Marseille Attacker, Terrorist Groups

[AnNahar] Prime Minister Youssef Chahed said Thursday a probe into the young Tunisian who stabbed to death two women in the French city of Marseille had uncovered no links to terrorist groups

"The investigation is underway and we do not really have links today or proof of any ties when this person was in Tunisia with terrorist groups or ISIS," he told news hounds after talks with his French counterpart Edouard Philippe, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State

group.

IS grabbed credit for last Sunday's attack in Marseille, saying the assailant, 29-year-old Ahmed Hanachi who stabbed to death two young women before being rubbed out, was one of its "soldiers."

"We were also shocked in Tunisia as we were also victims of three terrorist attacks in 2015 and we as a society are completely opposed to these terrorist groupings," the Tunisian premier said.

The assailant's friends and family members in Tunisia have dismissed any notion that he was motivated by jihadist aims, depicting him as a heavy drug user who had lost his way.

According to his father, Noureddine Hanachi, he left Tunisia for Europe

at the age of 17 but often visited the family home in Bizerte, north of Tunis.

The attack was carried out on the Yakala area, a stronghold for the jihadist group where U.S. drones have repeatedly targeted al-Qaeda members in the past few months.

China-Japan-Koreas
2 million may die if North Korea nukes Seoul and Tokyo -- report
[RT] As tensions rise on the Korean Peninsula, a new report has estimated that, should North Korea deploy its nuclear arsenal on Seoul and Tokyo, the corpse count could be up to 2.1 million, with around 8 million injured.
Over the past few months, the stand-off, with Pyongyang on one side, and the US and its allies on the other, has been escalating, with belligerent rhetoric and provocative military posturing on both sides. Amid these tensions, a study by 38 North ‐ a site on North Korean affairs run by Johns Hopkins University’s School of Advanced International Studies ‐ has revealed the potential consequences of a nuclear strike launched by the North on its neighbors.

The report’s author, Michael J. Zagurek Jr., notes that "history is replete with ’rational actors’ grossly miscalculating, especially in crisis situations," and that another nuclear or missile test might trigger a hostile reaction from the United States, prompting a nuclear strike from the North Korean regime.

Estimating that Pyongyang has a nuclear arsenal of 25 warheads, Zagurek calculated what would happen if leader Kim Pudge Jong-un
...the overweight, pouty-looking hereditary potentate of North Korea. Pudge appears to believe in his own divinity, but has yet to produce any loaves and fishes, so his subjects remain malnourished...
decides to launch all of them at Seoul and Tokyo, since both Japan and South Korea are key US allies. Accounting for missile defense systems such as the THAAD, deployed in South Korea, and the Aegis Ashore ABM, due to be installed in Japan, he said that "not all 25 North Korean nuclear missile warheads will detonate on their targets."

Zagurek gave estimates of the casualty rates from 20 percent, 50 percent and 80 percent of the missiles hitting their targets. According to the highest estimates, 2.1 million people would be killed and another 7.7 million maimed.

Japan is the only country to have had two atomic bombs detonate on its territory as an act of war. On August 6, 1945, an American B-29 bomber dropped the world’s first deployed nuclear weapon over Hiroshima, Japan, killing 80,000 and obliterating 90 percent of the city. This was followed three days later by another bomb dropped on Nagasaki, which killed another 40,000. Earlier that year, Tokyo was Molotov cocktailed by American planes, leading to 100,000 civilian deaths.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Decades of Sexual Harassment Accusations Against Harvey Weinstein
[NYTIMES] Two decades ago, the Hollywood producer Harvey Weinstein invited Ashley Judd to the Peninsula Beverly Hills hotel for what the young actress expected to be a business breakfast meeting. Instead, he had her sent up to his room, where he appeared in a bathrobe and asked if he could give her a massage or she could watch him shower, she recalled in an interview.

"How do I get out of the room as fast as possible without alienating Harvey Weinstein?" Ms. Judd said she remembers thinking.

In 2014, Mr. Weinstein invited Emily Nestor, who had worked just one day as a temporary employee, to the same hotel and made another offer: If she accepted his sexual advances, he would boost her career, according to accounts she provided to colleagues who sent them to Weinstein Company executives. The following year, once again at the Peninsula, a female assistant said Mr. Weinstein badgered her into giving him a massage while he was naked, leaving her "crying and very distraught," wrote a colleague, Lauren O’Connor, in a searing memo asserting sexual harassment and other misconduct by their boss.

"There is a toxic environment for women at this company," Ms. O’Connor said in the letter, addressed to several executives at the company run by Mr. Weinstein.

An investigation by The New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
found previously undisclosed allegations against Mr. Weinstein stretching over nearly three decades, documented through interviews with current and former employees and film industry workers, as well as legal records, emails and internal documents from the businesses he has run, Miramax and the Weinstein Company.

During that time, after being confronted with allegations including sexual harassment and unwanted physical contact, Mr. Weinstein has reached at least eight settlements with women, according to two company officials speaking on the condition of anonymity. Among the recipients, The Times found, were a young assistant in New York in 1990, an actress in 1997, an assistant in London in 1998, an Italian model in 2015 and Ms. O’Connor shortly after, according to records and those familiar with the agreements.

In a statement to The Times on Thursday afternoon, Mr. Weinstein said: "I appreciate the way I’ve behaved with colleagues in the past has caused a lot of pain, and I sincerely apologize for it. Though I’m trying to do better, I know I have a long way to go."

He added that he was working with therapists and planning to take a leave of absence to "deal with this issue head on."

Lisa Bloom, a lawyer advising Mr. Weinstein, said in a statement that "he denies many of the accusations as patently false." In comments to The Times earlier this week, Mr. Weinstein said that many claims in Ms. O’Connor’s memo were "off base" and that they parted on good terms.

Graham introduces 20-week abortion ban in Senate
[REUTERS] Republican Senator Lindsey Graham introduced a 20-week abortion ban in the Senate that would penalize medical providers who perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks of pregnancy.
So at 20 weeks it's a people? Would 139 days qualify? If it's twins, does each get 20 weeks for total of 40, or does it run concurrently ?

"Penalize med providers who perform or attempt an abortion after 20 weeks." What is the penalty, cranial aspiration? Dismemberment ?

Iraq
Iraqi premier claims victory against Islamic State in Hawija
[DPA-INTERNATIONAL] Iraq has "liberated" Hawija, Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bad boys’ last stronghold in the northern part of the country, Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi claimed on Thursday.

"I announce to you today ... the liberation of the city of Hawija today at the hands of the Iraqi forces," al-Abadi said in Gay Paree after a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron.

"This victory is not just a victory for the Iraqis, but for the whole world," al-Abadi added.

His remarks came shortly after an Iraqi commander said that forces had recaptured the centre of Hawija from Islamic State.

Hawija, in the oil-rich province of Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
fell to the radical group in mid-2014.

Commander of the Hawija operation, Lieutenant General Abdul-Amir Yarallah, said earlier the centre of the town had been "completely liberated" from bad boys.

"The units are continuing progress," he added in a statement without details.

Despite the statements, government forces, backed by Shiite militias, are now fighting to retake the district of Riyad, the last part of Hawija under Islamic State.

The Iraqi military says that seizing Riyad is likely to be completed in the next few hours.

Fighters from the pro-government Shiite militia, the Popular Mobilization, have pushed around 5 kilometres inside Riyad, sources in the group said.

The Popular Mobilization has played a major role in Iraq’s campaign against Islamic State.

On September 21, al-Abadi announced the beginning of a major offensive to retake Hawija.

Highland Park cop, tow firm stole cars, Detroit alleges
[DETROITNEWS] bankrupt, increasingly impoverished, reliably Democrat, Detroit
... ruled by Democrats since 1962. A city whose Golden Age included the Purple Gang...
officials accuse a Highland Park police officer of helping orchestrate an elaborate stolen vehicle scam, ramping up a legal battle over alleged corruption that involves cops, tow yards and collision shops.

The unnamed officer is referenced in a Sept. 11 counterclaim filed by Detroit in response to a lawsuit by tow company Nationwide Recovery Inc. over the city’s August decision to suspend the company from doing business with Detroit.

In the filing, Detroit attorneys claim the officer helped Nationwide steal vehicles, which were towed to the company’s yard. The city also accuses the officer of helping the company rack up exorbitant storage fees by failing to file paperwork letting owners know their vehicles had been recovered.

Detroit officials claimed in their court filing that Highland Park police are not cooperating with their investigation into the officer. Highland Park spokeswoman Marli Blackman said she cannot comment on ongoing litigation or investigations.

Detroit’s counterclaim comes in the wake of multiple lawsuits that accuse Highland Park police officer James McMahon of illegally seizing people’s property and forging a court document.

The civil rights lawsuits also claim McMahon and his partner, both white, referred to the Arab-Americans whose property was seized as "towel heads" and "camel jockeys." McMahon has not been charged with a crime.

Besides the unnamed Highland Park officer, Detroit’s filing accuses Nationwide attorney Marc Deldin, who formerly represented Detroit towing magnate Gasper Fiore, of being part of the alleged stolen vehicle scheme. City officials said in their filing that Fiore is connected to Nationwide, although he’s not listed as the owner.

"It is corruption on a wide scale," Detroit attorney Ronald Acho wrote in the filing. "The activities are so complex and involved that the City of Detroit does not yet know the full extent of the illegal activities."

In a separate case, Fiore was indicted in federal court as part of a Macomb County bribery scheme involving waste management company Rizzo Environmental Services.

After Fiore’s indictment, Detroit officials in July suspended his companies from doing business with the city.

#1  No surprise.

Several police departments in SoCal were running this scam for a while.

They towed my daughter's legally parked fully registered car and then wouldn't admit anything was wrong. They wanted almost $2000 from a college kid.

I wrote to the mayor. Suddenly got the car back no questions or fees required.

This scam was run in LA and in San Diego. It is an easy one to hide.

Somali Refugees Head Home as Yemen Crisis Bites
[AnNahar] Somali refugees are fleeing war, cholera and hunger in Yemen, the United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
said Thursday, with 10,000 expected to return home to a country they escaped over conflict and poverty.

Somalis make up 91 percent of refugees and asylum seekers in Yemen, with the United Nations reporting some 256,000 Somalis based in camps in the war-torn country.

Thousands have headed to Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
since the start of 2017, despite a conflict in the Arabian Peninsula country that has killed thousands and a cholera outbreak threatening nearly one million people.

But up to 10,000 Somali refugees are now trying to flee Yemen, the U.N. refugee agency UNHCR said.

Two boats chartered by UNHCR and the U.N. migration agency IOM have already left Yemen's port of Aden for the Somali port of Berbera, most recently on Sunday.

A third vessel may also depart later this month, UNHCR said, on a journey of 16 to 18 hours.

"In total, 284 Somali refugees have returned from Yemen already in the past three weeks," UNHCR's Yemen spokeswoman Shabia Mantoo said Thursday.

"This is an ongoing process and full funding to support the process is yet to be received. So the return program will continue over 2018 as well," she told AFP.

While Somali refugees in Yemen largely hail from southern Somalia and the northwestern region of Woqooyi Galbeed, most returnees are heading to the capital Mogadishu, the target of a deadly bombing last month.

Access to food, shelter and medicine remains a challenge in Somalia, which has been torn by decades of conflict and ranks second on the 2017 fragile states index.

Since 2007, Shabaab jihadists have been fighting to overthrow the African country's internationally backed government, repeatedly attacking both civilian and military targets.

The Yemen conflict has claimed the lives of more than 8,500 people since 2015, when an Arab military coalition led by Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
joined the government's fight against a rebel alliance.

The war has pushed 17 million people to the brink of famine, in what the United Nations this year called the "largest humanitarian crisis in the world."

Yemen is also facing port and airport blockades and a cholera outbreak that the International Committee of the Red Thingy estimates has killed more than 2,100 people since April.

IOM estimates around 55,000 migrants colonists have left the Horn of Africa headed for Yemen since the start of the year, many of them from Somalia.

In August, at least 56 Somali and Æthiopian migrants colonists drowned when a human smuggler forced them into choppy Arabian Sea waters before reaching the Yemen coast.

FSB find remains of former most-wanted terrorist in Russia, Count Doku
[RT] Russia’s Federal Security Service
... the successor to the KGB...
(FSB) has confirmed the discovery of the remains of notorious terrorist Doku Count Doku Umarov
... Late self-styled first emir of the Caucasus Emirate. Count Doku announced that his forces will not target civilians, but qualified that statement by saying there aren't any civilians in Russia. Then the Russians killed him...
, who criminal masterminded several deadly attacks on civilian targets and was killed in 2013.

"As a result of targeted long-term operational search activities, the Federal Security Service has discovered the burial site of the leader of the North Caucasian criminal gang, Doku Umarov, and four members of his gang in the mountain-wooded area in the Russia’s Republic of Ingushetia," the FSB said in a statement on Wednesday.

Umarov and his associates "were eliminated during the special operation of the security forces in September 2013," the statement added.

Chechen President Ramzan Kadyrov, in a post on Telegram, welcomed the discovery of Umarov’s remains.

"The elimination of Doku Umarov became the key moment in the fight against terrorism in the North Caucasus. It broke the back of international terrorists. I’m sure that international terrorism will never raise its head in our republic or in our region," Kadyrov wrote.

Umarov headed the Caucasus Emirate Death Eater group, which closely cooperated with Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS, formerly ISIS/ISIS) and al-Qaeda.

He was on the wanted list of Russia, the US, and the UN Security Council for organizing multiple acts of terrorism, kidnapping, contract murder, and other serious crimes in Russia.

The Chechen Islamist participated in a terrorist attack in the Russian Republic of Ingushetia in 1999, when Death Eaters managed to seize over a dozen villages.

Umarov took responsibility for several acts of terrorism in Russia, including attacks on the Nevsky Express passenger train, the Moscow Metro, and Domodedovo Airport.

An kaboom on the Nevsky Express high speed train, travelling between Moscow and St. Petersburg, claimed the lives 27 people and injured around a hundred on November 27, 2009.

Security forces kill 3 militants in southern Somalia
[NEWS.XINHUANET] Somalia security forces on Thursday killed at least three al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
turbans and injured four others in heavy fighting with the Death Eaters in Bariire location in southern region.

Deputy Governor of Lower Shabelle region, Abdifitah Haji Abdulle, told news hounds that al-Shabaab turbans attacked Somalia National Army base in Bariire, sparking fierce fighting between the army and Lion of Islams.

"Terrorists attacked army bases in Bariire location in Lower Shabelle region today, then fighting broke out that lasted about two hours. Somali National Army killed 3 al-Shabaab turbans and maimed 4 others," Abdulle said.

Abdulle added that there were no casualties on Somali National Army side during the fighting in the area.

A resident in Bariire told Xinhua by phone that residents have deserted the town due to fears of retaliatory attacks by the Lion of Islams.

"I cannot tell the number of casualties of the fresh fighting today, but casualties will only be from warring sides here because residents were displaced already," the resident said.

Venezuela raises possibility of Russian military help to counter US
[MCCLATCHYDC] Venezuelan President Nicolás Maduro on Wednesday raised the possibility of getting military support from Russia to boost its defensive capabilities after President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
threatened to use force against the South American nation.

Speaking at an energy forum in Moscow, Maduro said his administration will discuss increased military cooperation with the Russian government during his visit this week.

"I am sure, even if we do not ask, we will be given even more support to boost Venezuela’s defense capacity and illusory sovereignty," Maduro said.

Tensions are running high between Washington and Caracas. After Maduro defied warnings from the White House and rolled back democratic institutions, the Trump administration imposed sanctions as a punishment. Then, in August, Trump stunned U.S. and Venezuelan officials alike by raising the possibility of military force.

#1  Possibly, albeit remotely, related:

The Russian defence ministry has drafted a law to ban social media posts by professional soldiers and other military personnel on security grounds.

The bill says photos, videos and other material uploaded to the internet can reveal military details useful to an enemy. Automatic geolocation can show where a military unit is deployed.

The bill affects "contract" soldiers, who can be sent abroad, not conscripts.

15 killed, 20 injured as suicide blast hits shrine in SW Pakistan
[NEWS.XINHUANET] At least 15 people were killed and over 20 others injured when a jacket wallah went kaboom! at the entrance gate of a shrine in Pakistain's southwest Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
province on Thursday evening, officials said.

Confirming the corpse count, spokesperson of Balochistan government, Anwaar ul Haq Kakar said that the killed people also included a policeman.

Provincial Home Minister of Balochistan Sarfraz Bugti said the blast happened during the Urs (death anniversary of the shrine's saint) celebrations at the Fateh Pur shrine.

He said the bomber went kaboom! near the entrance gate of the portion allocated for women in the shrine, located in Jhal Magsi area, some 300 km away from historic provincial capital of Quetta.

The minister said the bomber tried to enter the shrine, but went kaboom! when the on-duty policeman stopped him for frisking.

Police said there were around 800 to 1,000 people inside the shrine when the incident happened.

The shrine is located at a remote place and the nearest hospital in the area can only accommodate 12 people, so the rescue teams are shifting the injured people to hospital in neighboring districts.

Locals said the corpse count is feared to rise as it may take rescue teams two to three hours to reach the hospitals in neighboring areas.
According to Al Ahram, it was a Sufi shrine.
