South African Heritage Day King Shaka kaSenzagakhona Day 24 September 2017
[Nuus24] In his Heritage Day address during the celebrations in Siyabuswa in Mpumalanga, President Jacob Zuma briefly touched on the country's history, while also saying the way to build a better SA is through 'radical economic transformation'.

The national Heritage Day celebrations will be held under the theme "The Year of OR Tambo: Celebrating Our Liberation Heritage" and President Jacob Zuma is expected to lead the Heritage Day celebrations in Siyabuswa, Mpumalanga.

Meanwhile in KwaDukuza, KwaZulu-Natal, the Zulu nation will celebrate the life of King Shaka kaSenzagakhona, the founding father of the Zulu nation.

#1  Splendid fellow that Shaka:

In 1827, Shaka’s mother, Nandi, died, and the Zulu leader lost his mind. In his grief, Shaka had hundreds of Zulus killed, and he outlawed the planting of crops and the use of milk for a year. All women found pregnant were murdered along with their husbands. He sent his army on an extensive military operation, and when they returned exhausted he immediately ordered them out again. It was the last straw for the lesser Zulu chiefs: On September 22, 1828, his half-brothers murdered Shaka. Dingane, one of the brothers, then became king of the Zulus.

Clergy and Lay Scholars Issue Filial Correction of Pope Francis
h/t Instapundit
A group of clergy and lay scholars from around the world have taken the very rare step of presenting Pope Francis with a formal filial correction, accusing him of propagating heresies concerning marriage, the moral life, and reception of the sacraments.

Entitled Correctio filialis de haeresibus propagatis, meaning ’A Filial Correction Concerning the Propagation of Heresies,’ the 25 page letter was delivered to the Holy Father at his Santa Marta residence on Aug. 11.

Clarice Feldman: Deep State Colluded with the Russians, not Trump
[AmericanThinker] As more and more leaks about the ongoing “Russian collusion” witch hunt by Robert Mueller appear in print, it seems to me that if Russia had been trying to erode our faith in our institutions, the Deep State is accomplishing what Russia failed to do.

The Obama claque’s efforts were initially intended to help Clinton when they thought she would win and no one would know about their crimes. Then they continued the unlawful spying to cover up their role in the worst case of misuse of federal power in our history, to effect the removal or emasculation of the President, and now they are desperate to cover up their illegal actions when all that failed.

A. Where we are today on “Russian collusion”?

Instapundit tweeted the answer succinctly: “The election was hacked!” turns out to mean, “Russia bought some ads on Facebook.”

Facebook is turning over ads presumably purchased by Russians during the campaign. Good -- let’s see them. As the article notes:

The announcement that Facebook would share the ads with the Senate and House intelligence committees came after the social network spent two weeks on the defensive. The company faced calls for greater transparency about 470 Russia-linked accounts -- in which fictional people posed as American activists -- which were taken down after they had promoted inflammatory messages on divisive issues. Facebook had previously angered congressional staff by showing only a sample of the ads, some of which attacked Hillary Clinton or praised Donald J. Trump.

As Tom Maguire reminds us, it would be unwise to assume this was a one-sided campaign: “Let's see all the ads and find out whether Russia was winding up both sides. Back in the day it was believed Russia backed anti-fracking groups in Europe. Why not also in the US?”

Best of the Web’s James Freeman thinks that, in any case, the notion that these ads swung the election is ridiculous on its face:

So the spending on fake Russian political ads identified by Facebook amounted to around 1/7,000th of what Mrs. Clinton spent on advertising. And of course these fake ad buys were not material in the context of Facebook’s total advertising revenues, which amounted to nearly $27 billion last year.

Is a $150,000 ad buy even big enough to require sign-off from Mr. Putin? If as some believe, Russian meddling was simply intended to discredit the likely winner, some poor Russian agent may now be headed to Siberia for engineering the election of a U.S. President who seems determined to drive down the price of oil.

Let’s hope Congress gets to the bottom of this. If $150,000 amounts to the entire iceberg, and it still managed to sink the S.S. Clinton, marketing majors will be studying these ads for years to come.

The President of the United States calls for NFL fans to boycott games
After doubling down Saturday on national anthem comments that reverberated around the NFL, President Donald Trump is now calling for a boycott from fans during Sunday's Week 3 slate.

Trump made the comments early Sunday on Twitter:

Numerous players and owners spoke out against Trump's comments on Saturday and his latest remarks aren't going to sit well with league officials.

Various reports have indicated that hundreds of players are planning to make a statement prior to kickoff in Sunday's games as a reaction to Trump's bold statements.

One can only hope. These millionaire idiots, employed by billionaires who - frankly - aren't much smarter, have painted themselves into a corner. Had the League stood up firmly on this at the beginning, there wouldn't be a problem. If they do so now, then cries of 'racism' and 'censorship' will echo through the land.

Teen who punched principal in face gets sweet deal from judge
[New York Post] A hot-headed teen got a slap on the wrist Friday for slugging a Manhattan principal who told him to turn down his music.

Judge Edwina Richardson-Mendelson granted Luis Penzo, 19, youthful offender status and sentenced him to a conditional discharge ‐ as long as he stays out of trouble for three years he’ll dodge prison and a criminal record.

"You made us very proud," the judge said of the surly teen’s compliance with a family therapy program.

Penzo, who sauntered into Manhattan Supreme Court Friday wearing a white T-shirt and red gym shorts, offered no apology for the October 2016 beatdown of Principal Matthew Tossman.

He previously admitted to the attack on Tossman of the Manhattan Early College School for Advertising.

"He grabbed my Beats and was very aggressive so I lost control," he confessed, according to court papers. "I hit him two times."

When the principal asked him to turn down his music, Penzo dropped the headphones on the floor and left the music booming, prosecutors said.

Tossman reached for the device and Penzo pounced on him, leaving the educator with two black eyes and a laceration that needed seven stitches.

Penzo at the time attended Murry Bergtraum High School, which is housed in the same building as Tossman’s school.

Defense lawyer, Donna Henken, declined to comment.

Trump Is Reinventing What It Means to Be a Politician
[PJMedia] For most of our lifetimes being a politician meant being a self-centered hypocritical bore who carefully obfuscates his or her true opinions lest they offend potential voters and financial supporters or... a corrupt self-centered hypocritical bore who carefully obfuscates his or her opinions lest they offend potential voters or financial supporters.

Trump is reinventing that and we -- whether we agree with his (sometimes changing) views or not -- owe him big (or bigly) for this. At least now we're awake and more of us are paying attention. (On this weekend's episode of Judge Jeanine, almost every man-on-the-street interviewee knew who "Rocket Man" was. Compare that with "Joe Biden" when he was vice president.)

And these days Donald's getting better and more precise at his core strategy -- saying things that many, often most, of us think but don't have the courage to utter.

For example, what the hell are black athletes who make upwards of ten million a year, far more than 99.999% of their fans of any color or shape, doing whining so ungratefully about opportunity for African-Americans in America? Where else could they have made fortunes anywhere near that size merely for playing a game? (Well, okay, except for a handful of Serbian and Swiss tennis players, but you know what I mean.) If they're so worried about their fellow African-Americans, why aren't they using their gazillions to do something about it? Perhaps the athletes are suffering from Matt Damon Envy, living in thirty million dollars houses while promulgating the works of America-hating socialist liar Howard Zinn. Whatever the case, Trump let them have it for their obvious hypocrisy and phony posturing that does nothing to help African-Americans or anybody else.

...Trump has completely reinvented the template of what it means to be a politician and it's no surprise that so may other politicians (not just John McCain) are publicly or privately appalled. He has unmasked them. They're worried and they should be because American politics will never be the same. Trump may be sui generis, but others are undoubtedly getting the message -- stop pussy-footing around and tell it like it is. Refreshing, no? And he has a sense of humor. Better than Stephen Colbert anyway.

Showdown looms over Trump dossier; FBI misses third deadline to turn over subpoenaed documents
[Washington Examiner] A third deadline has now passed for the FBI and Justice Department to give the House Intelligence Committee subpoenaed documents related to the Trump dossier. And for a third time, the bureau has not produced the material.

The dossier is a collection of what former FBI Director James Comey called "salacious and unverified" allegations of collusion between Russia and Trump campaign figures in the 2016 campaign. The Russia allegations were compiled by a former British spy, Christopher Steele, who was commissioned by the opposition research firm Fusion GPS, which is thought to have been paid for the work by wealthy supporters of Hillary Clinton. The FBI reportedly considered taking over the dossier project in the fall of 2016, when the campaign was at its height, leading Senate Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley to say the dossier matter raised "questions about the FBI's independence from politics."

Both Grassley and the House Intelligence Committee have been interested in learning if the FBI ever used the "salacious and unverified" dossier as a basis for requesting surveillance on anyone in the Trump circle. Those questions only intensified this week with reports that the FBI wiretapped Trump associate and former campaign chairman Paul Manafort during the transition period.

Four weeks ago, on Aug. 24, the House Intelligence Committee subpoenaed the FBI and Justice Department, seeking all internal FBI reports "incorporating, relying on, or referring to" information provided by Steele, his sources, or Fusion GPS. The committee also asked for documents on any FBI or Justice "efforts to corroborate, validate, or evaluate" Steele's information. And the subpoena sought any surveillance applications that included any information or were based on any information, provided by Steele.

Intelligence Committee Chairman Devin Nunes originally set a Sept. 1 deadline for production of the dossier documents. The FBI did not comply. Nunes then extended the deadline to Sept. 14. The FBI did not comply. Then Nunes extended the deadline again, to Sept. 22. Now, again, the FBI has not complied.

NAACP rallies behind Stephen Curry after Trump 'dissed' him, promotes #takeaknee demonstrations
[Washington Examiner] The National Association for the Advancement of Colored People, or NAACP, is going on a full-court press against President Trump after he rescinded Golden State Warriors guard Stephen Curry's invitation to visit the White House.

"Stephen Curry is hesitating, therefore invitation is withdrawn!", Trump declared in a tweet Saturday morning after the NBA player repeated on Friday his desire not to join his championship-winning team in visiting the White House later this year.

In response to this news, the NAACP's official Twitter account said that a "hero dissed by a .... fill in the blank." The tweet included the hashtag #TakeAKnee ‐ a reference to a recent string of demonstrations by sports players, led by quarterback Colin Kaepernick began kneeling during the national anthem last season ‐ to protest the treatment of African Americans and other minorities in the U.S.

Clapper: Intelligence community ‘cast doubt on the legitimacy' of Trump's victory
[The Hill] The former director of National Intelligence said that the intelligence community's conclusion that Russians sought to influence the 2016 election "cast doubt on the legitimacy" of President Trump's victory.

"Our intelligence community assessment did, I think, serve to cast doubt on the legitimacy of his victory in the election," James Clapper said in a CNN interview on Friday night.

Clapper oversaw the January report that concluded, in a consensus between the CIA, NSA and FBI, that Russia carried out a deliberate and multifaceted attempt to influence the 2016 U.S. presidential election.

The report found convincing evidence that Russia had specifically worked to aid Donald Trump in winning the presidency.

While the report did not find evidence that Russians had actually influenced the results of the election, Clapper said that he thinks that implication concerns Trump more than anything else.

"And I think that above all else is what concerned him, and I think that transcends, unfortunately, the real concern here, which is Russian interference in the political process, which by the way is going to continue," Clapper continued.
Somehow this dasdardly 'Russian election involvement' was overlooked in the 2008 and 2012 presidential elections. Luckily for us, our intelligence community has unearthed these evil plots.
Trump has repeatedly dismissed reports of the Russian attempts to influence the election, referring to the investigations into Russian meddling on Friday as a "hoax," and accusing the media of biased coverage.
My emphasis provided para 5.

#1  While the report did not find evidence that Russians had actually influenced the results of the election

So there's no there.... there.

But Clapper is right about one thing. "Casting Doubt" certainly appears to have been (and remain) an Intelligence Community goal.

Please, let us be honest. Forget everything else, her history, husband, and campaign. Having observed the post-election Hillary Clinton, is there really anyone who believes she would have been the better choice ?

Bill Maher: Obamacare ‘Was a Redistribution of Income' (Video)
[Breibart] During the online "Overtime" segment of Friday’s edition of HBO’s "Real Time," host Bill Maher stated that Obamacare did redistribute income and President Obama should have said so.

Maher said, "Obamacare is not putting us into the red. No. It’s actually making a little money. Because, you know, it was a redistribution of income. When they accused him that, he should have said, ’Yeah. F*ck yeah. Exactly. That’s exactly what we’re doing. We’re taking money from people who will never miss it, and giving it to poor people who desperately need it. Sue me.'"

The Beatings Will Continue: Iraqi Edition

ISIS executes 27 in Anbar

Anbar (IraqiNews.com) Islamic State has killed more than twenty of its militants, including a leader, after they fled Anbar, a paramilitary official said.

“The militant group executed one of its leaders, known as abu Dajana, a Syrian national,” Qutri al-Samarmad, a leader with the Tribal Mobilization Forces in Anbar, told Baghdad Today.

“The group also executed 27 other militants, along with the leader, in Syria’s al-BuKamal as they fled after security troops advanced in Annah town in Anbar,” he added.

In related news, a security source said, “security troops killed a suicide attackers in Annah.”

“The attacker infiltrated from Rawa to Annah targeting troops,” he told Alghad Press on Saturday.

Iraqi army announced the total recapture of the town, invaded on Wednesday, hours after recapturing neighboring Rayhana area.

According to military media, up to 30 militants were killed since offensives launched.

Last week, Iraqi joint troops liberated Akashat region, between Rutba town, on borders with Jordan, and Qaim, on borders with Syria.

Anbar’s western towns of Annah, Qaim and Rawa have been held by the extremist group since 2014, when it occupied one third of Iraq to proclaim a self-styled Islamic “Caliphate”. Iraqi troops were able to return life back to normal in the biggest cities of Anbar including Fallujah, Ramadi and others after recapturing them in 2015 and 2016.

On Thursday, Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi and the Joint Operations Command declared the start of offensives to retake IS-held regions in Salahuddin and Kirkuk provinces.

Science & Technology
Who needs a husband when you can have a robot!
[DailyMail] Although Alfie and I look like any normal couple enjoying the late September sunshine with our dog, this isn’t a normal date. It is planned to the last detail.
It would almost have to be.
After taking the air for precisely 17 minutes, we are going home to enjoy a light supper with wine, before settling on the sofa to watch one of my favourite gory medical dramas.

Alfie is not going to gripe about the plot lines or ask daft questions. He’s not going to ask whether I really need a second glass of wine. If, at some point, I feel like inquiring as to whether my bottom looks big in my new red dress, I know what his response will be.
Alfie gets a shot 99 percent of men dating wimmin don't get.
Does Alfie sound like the perfect man? He could be.

He is actually a robot, crafted from thin hand-sculpted silicone stretched over a durable plastic skeleton, and can be programmed to do whatever I want him to, whether that is placing an internet shopping order or complimenting me on my haircut.
And in the final analysis, getting a man to do whatever you want him to do is the goal.
He is the brainchild of robotics expert Adam Kushner, and I’ve volunteered to give him a test run to see whether robots might one day replace our husbands — or, specifically, my perfectly good current version, Justin, to whom I’ve been married for 15 years.
Meanwhile, Justin signs up for a clandestine Kik account.
Interest in humanoid robots is at an all-time high. On October 6 the long-awaited movie sequel Blade Runner 2049 is released, with a plotline heaving with robots, known as replicants, that will whet the appetite of science fiction lovers everywhere.

In real life, there is a frantic race to create the most believable looking and sounding robots.
Maybe, but I am having a hard time believing the writer.
Cloning life forms is so last century. Now, we want to recreate humanity in robotic form, and there’s sound practical reasons for doing so.

Companion robots are increasingly in demand; not just as the toys of billionaires, but also as receptionists, teachers and helpers to our ageing population.
The best helpers for an ageing population is kids, not robot.
It sounds creepy, but you can see why they could be handy: lifting the infirm out of the bath, calling for emergency assistance and offering reminders to take medication — as well as directing guests to the right room when arriving at a hotel.
All noble reasons.
‘Travel to Japan or China, and chances are a vaguely human-looking robot will be directing you to your room,’ says Adam, who provided the first UK robot receptionist back in February and can now barely keep up with demand.

I am neither old, a billionaire nor a hotel owner, but I am charmed by the idea of a ‘husband’ who is programmed to do everything I tell him.

The Dangerous Book for Boys
Conn Iggulden and Hal Iggulden
William Morrow, 2007

Taking a break from history, here we have a bit of levity and a lot of good information in The Dangerous Book for Boys. I picked up this book and its sister title, The Daring Book for Girls, as a way to expose my children to acts and facts which seem to be disappearing. It also makes a great bathroom book, a term I use for books full of short stories and unconnected chapters which can be picked up and put away to be read again at leisure, and I mean this term with the utmost respect.

It is a collection of stories, history, and how-tos. The section titled Girls had me rolling and nodding.

Page 110

5. Avoid being vulgar. Excitable bouts of windbreaking will not endear you to a girl, just to pick one example.

.......

8. Finally, make sure you are well-scrubbed, your nails clean and your hair is washed. Remember that girls are as nervous around you as you are around them, if you can imagine such a thing. They think and act rather differently to you, but without them, life would be one long football locker room. Treat them with respect.

There is a small sample of simple, easy humored advice pieces, and the style works throughout the book. Here, after the topic of hunting rabbit, how to tan the skin.

Page 241

Once the skin is completely dry, it can be dipped in warm water with a little soap to cut the grease. There is a membrane inside all animal skins that must be removed before tanning. One way is to rub the skin back and forth on an edged object, like a wooden board or a large stone. We found steel wool useful, as well as the back of a kitchen knife. It took a long time. It smelled. Peeling off wads of fatty membrane was not an enjoyable experience. Still, no one said it would be easy.

How to identify fish, trees, clouds. The story of Douglas Bader. Latin phrases. First Aid including shock.

Page 132

Staying calm is most important for your own safety and other people who may be relying on you. It helps to prepare. When the injury occurs, the first thing you should do is take a deep breath and reach for the first-aid kit you have prepared long before. Remember the ABC of "Airway, Breathing, Compression" and check one at a time.

Make sure you have considered methods of contact in the event of an emergency. A cell phone is a good idea, but is it in a waterproof bag? Is it charged? Remember that the best captains look after their men.

Making your first-aid kit, making a tree house. Lessons on American History and government. How about the Battle of Hastings? yup. Rorke's Drift? got it. This book is just chock full of useful and fun information, as is its sister book, which I will cover later. At just under 270 pages, illustrated with color when necessary, it is one of my favorite pick ups.

Link is to Amazon. I recommend the hardback.

This Week in Emergency Prepardness
Being hurricane season and reading all the fresh tips from bloggers from Texas and Florida, a very simple yet very real problem plopped in my head - how to go poo, or relieve oneself in general, when you can't go outside and the waterworks quit -- or worse, back up.

Obviously, every camping section on the internet has a solution to such a problem... except a lot of them figure you had a septic dump handy at some point.

Me, I was picturing something like a toilet seat, except it fit onto a drywall bucket and latched closed to seal off or at least mitigate the leftovers. When filled satisfactorily, slap on the normal lid, maybe duct tape the heck out of it, label it human waste in big letters, and waddle it off for storage until proper disposal is available.

Now, if there is one out there I could not find it. I then started to wonder if I was the first to think of such a thing. Then I set my drink down and pondered what could go wrong. With such a contraption, would expanding gasses pop the lid off, or worse with the half-roll duct tape sealing job?

Last week there was talk of how to make hot/boiling water. This is good not only for purifying iffy water, but nice for dehydrated foods and comfort foods such as coffee. I don't use the word comfort like Modern Man, who does not use the word 'copter for helicopter and orders the $80 meat loaf. I mean cold, noisy, no power, what the crap was that noise? Ah, nice cup of coffee to relax and not freak out.

Adding to propane, which is real handy and the right accessories can get it from your 20# BBQ into your portable camp stove or the flammable gels which a person must be very respectful of; because what is worse than being in a hurricane or serious ice/winter storm? Your house catching on fire after you scream and kick over the flame because you got a 3rd degree burn from a nearly invisible flame you didn't know was there.

Wise products has a fire bucket which claims the fuel can be used in wind and rain and snow; I am going to say resistant. Wood-based and shielded by a paraffin mix of secret herbs and spices, it weighs in at three pounds and claims up to 60 cups of water can be boiled (3.75 gallons). Non-volatile (no flame ups) and benzene free. I have not used it, but it reads well. Scoop out a quantity, light it, stir embers and add to as necessary. Anyone try this stuff out?

Basically, It's a powder that turns your wastes into solid, no out gassing, no worries about spills and you can just throw it into a dumpster when garbage service resume, or bury it.eventually, whichever happens.

The Grand Turk
Details emerge on murder of Syrian opposition figure and her daughter
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] New details on the murder of Orouba Barakat and her daughter Hala in Istanbul have emerged among Syrian activists on Friday evening.

Barakat and Hala were stabbed to death. Ottoman Turkish police found their bodies in their apartment in Istanbul’s area of Uskudar. The police, however, has not issued any information about the murder yet.

Syrian sources from Istanbul said that the victims most likely knew their killer or killers. This is deduced because their place of residence showed no signs of a break-in.

New details reveal that the perpetrators deliberately knocked on the door in a conventional manner, then entered and strangled Barakat and Hala. Following the break-in, they stabbed the women with a knife.

After concluding their murder spree, they poured detergent liquid over their bodies to prevent any smell from exposing them and their crime before securing a hideout.

When Orouba’s sister, Shaza Barakat, accused the Syrian regime of assassinating Orouba, some Syrian activistis pointed out that it may be possible that the culprits are members of the Moslem Brüderbund. The activists believe so because Orouba was very critical of the Brotherhood’s actions and approaches to the Syrian case.

Orouba is a Syrian activist who opposed the Assad regime. She was a member of the opposition national council and was a well-known as a supporter of the revolution and as a critic of opposition institutions. Her daughter Hala was a journalist in the Syrian Orient institution.

McCain ‘staring death in the face’ will inspire ‘good choices,’ Dem lawmaker says
[WASHINGTONTIMES] Extemporaneous comments about the political benefits of Sen. John Maverick McCain

A town hall meeting in Pennsylvania on Tuesday delved into dark territory when Republican efforts to repeal Obamacare

The previous iteration, known as Hillarycare, was laughed out of Washington. This stinker was passed on a party-line vote without being read...
became the topic of conversation. Mr. Cartwright told an audience at Lehigh Carbon Community College in Tamaqua that the Arizona Republican’s judgment on important matters will improve since "he’s staring death in the face right now."

Video of the incident first reported by The Washington Examiner shows the politician saying, "McCain I’m worried about. Also because the governor of Arizona came out in favor of the Lindsey Graham

-Bill Cassidy bill so that puts pressure on McCain. But, man, something tells me McCain, he’s staring death in the face right now, so he’s probably going to make good choices and he’s not going to bend to political pressure."

Meghan McCain, the senator’s daughter, blasted the Democrat late Thursday for his rhetoric.

"What a disgusting and macabre statement," Tweeted.

Mr. Cartwright responded within hours with an apology.

The more crimes they committed by spying on the opposition, the more urgently they needed to bring down Trump. The consequences of each crime that they had committed spurred them on to commit worse crimes to save themselves from going to jail. It’s the same old story when it comes to criminals.

Each act of illegal surveillance became more blatant. And when illegal surveillance couldn’t stop Trump’s victory, they had to double down on the illegal surveillance for a coup.

The more Obama spied on Trump, the more he had to keep doing it. This time it was bound to pay off.

Obama and his allies had violated the norms so often for their policy goals that they couldn’t afford to be replaced by anyone but one of their own. The more Obama relied on the imperial presidency of executive orders, the less he could afford to be replaced by anyone who would undo them. The more his staffers lied and broke the law on everything from the government shutdown to the Iran nuke sellout, the more desperately they needed to pull out all the stops to keep Trump out of office. And the more they did it, the more they couldn’t afford not to do it. Abuse of power locks you into the loop familiar to all dictators. You can’t stop riding the tiger. Once you start, you can’t afford to stop.

If you want to understand why Samantha Power was unmasking names, that’s why. The hysterical obsession with destroying Trump comes from the top down. It’s not just ideology. It’s wealthy and powerful men and women who ran the country and are terrified that their crimes will be exposed.

It’s why the media increasingly sounds like the propaganda organs of a Communist country. Why there are street riots and why the internet is being censored by Google and Facebook’s "fact checking" allies.

It’s not just ideology. It’s raw fear.

The left is sitting on the biggest crime committed by a sitting president. The only way to cover it up is to destroy his Republican successor.

A turning point in history is here.

If Obama goes down, the left will go down with him. If his coup succeeds, then America ends.
Fits rather nicely following g(r)om's posting yesterday of "Obama's Watergate" found at this link.

Syrian rebels capture gasfield in Deir Ezzor
Deir Ezzor (Syria News) The Syrian Democratic Forces, backed by the international coalition troops, managed to capture one of the biggest gas fields in the city of Deir Ezzor, Enab Baladi News reported on Saturday.

“Also, ongoing battles are taking place between the fighters of the Syrian Democratic Forces and Islamic State militants in the area,” the statement added.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Rebel government minister in car bomb attack

A finance minister for the breakaway republic of Donetsk was wounded in a car bombing, according to an official Russian language news account.

Alexander Timofeev, Donetsk People's Republic minister of finance, was in the car when a bomb was detonated Saturday morning.

According to a news account in Sputnik, there were two explosions. Timofeev was listed a in critical condition.

According to RIA Novosti, Timofeev suffered head injuries in the attack.

A Russian military journalist said that Timofeev was not hurt in the explosion. In his blog post he hinted that the attempt on Timofeev was an internal conflict. He also said that August's attempt on Plotnitsky was also an internal matter, and that a rumor circulating in Donetsk claimed Zakharchenko was on his way out and Timoffev was suggested as a possible replacement.

According to lb.ua, Timofeev commanded the rebel combat formation Oplot, which fought at the Donetsk airport until it fell into rebel hands in February, 2015.

Two other bombing attempts on rebel officials were made in August, according to Sputnik. A bomb was found near the personal residence of Donetsk president Aleksandr Zakharcheko.

Another assassination attempt earlier in August was made on Lugansk president Igor Plotnitsky. In that incident,a roadside bomb was detonated, resulting in mild injuries

Both republics' officials are likely to be under increased pressure with the news a week ago that Russian Federation humanitarian aid would end in the 2018 Russian fiscal year.

Russian military journalist Boris Rozhin said that Timofeev was not hurt in the explosion. In his blog post, he hinted that the attempt on Timofeev was an internal government conflict gone hot. He first suggested, however, the possibility that Ukrainian aligned groups were responsible for the attack as the most likely explanation.

He also said that August's attempt on Plotnitsky was an internal matter, and that there was a rumor circulating in Donetsk that Timofeev was a possible second in command for Zakharchenko.

Iraq
Iraqi militiaman dies in IED attack in Diyala
Diyala (IraqiNews.com) A member of Iraqi paramilitary troops fighting the Islamic State died Saturday when a roadside bomb exploded northeast of Diyala province, a security source was quoted saying.

A member of the Popular Mobilization Forces died and another sustained injuries when a roadside bomb exploded in their patrol while passing at Sidlan village, Qarra Tabba, northeast of the province, according to the source.

Iraqi government forces, backed by a United States.-led coalition and paramilitary troops, are currently battling Islamic State militants out of their strongholds in Anbar, Kirkuk and Salahuddin provinces, hoping to mark an end to the self-styled “caliphate” the group declared in 2014 from the city of Mosul.

Operations since October 2016 have so far managed to liberate Mosul, the group’s former capital in Iraq, and Tal Afar town, west of Mosul. A wide-scale offensive was launched earlier on Thursday to retake IS holdouts in Salahuddin and Kirkuk, while a parallel one was launched earlier this week targeting havens in western Anbar.

Five rangers were sitting inside the cab of the pickup, and the four others on the back. They were on patrol providing protection for teachers. The area where the attack occurred is being dug up for the installation of water pipes. When the patrol arrived there, the four rangers on the back got off to walk alongside the vehicle. -Lurid Crime Tales-
Psychologist in massive Social Security fraud case gets 25-year sentence
[WASHINGTONTIMES] The psychologist who helped pull off the biggest Social Security fraud in U.S. history was sentenced Friday to 25 years in prison.

Alfred Bradley Adkins was part of the fraud ring orchestrated by Eric C. Conn, one of the country’s most prominent disability lawyers, and David B. Daugherty, a Social Security judge who rubber-stamped at least 1,700 bogus applications for benefits.

All told, the scam would have cost the government at least $600 million in fraudulent lifetime benefits, according to the government’s conservative estimate. Some $93 million were already paid out before the scam was stopped, the government said.

Judge Danny C. Reeves, sitting in Kentucky, delivered the 25-year sentence in court Friday, the Lexington Herald-Leader reported. That’s a stiffer sentence than either Conn, who got 12 years, or Daugherty, who got four years, and it’s also more than the penalty the government had been seeking.

But the judge said it was appropriate given the massive size of the fraud and the four charges Adkins was convicted of: mail fraud, wire fraud, making false claims and conspiracy.

Iraqis capture ISIS position near Shirqat

Shirqat (IraqiNews.com) Federal Police announced liberation of Islamic State’s holdout in north of Salahuddin on Saturday.

Lt. Gen. Shaker Jawdat, chief of Federal Police, said in a statement that “troops liberated the eastern side of Shirqat, concluding the third part of the third phase of operations to free Hawija.”

225 militants had been killed since the launch of operations in Shirqat, Jawdat previously announced.

In a previous statement, Jawdat said troops seized an IS prison with 14 prisoners inside, during operations to liberate south of the eastern side of Shirqat. Earlier on the day, Jawdat said troops became in control over 90 percent of the holdout.

The Iraqi army said in September its forces recaptured the eastern coast of Shirqat, located south of Mosul, on the west bank of the Tigris river, after being surrounded for months by Iraqi troops and the pro-government Shi’ite militias. The western coast of Shirqat, is still under the IS control.

Egyptian Azhar cleric suspended for singing on TV show
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The Egyptian Ministry of Awqaf has decided to arrest al-Azhari Sheikh Ihab al-Yunis, who sung "Lesa Faker" (Do you still remember?) as a tribute to the late Arabic singer Um Kolthum while wearing his Azhari uniform on an Egyptian satellite channel.

The ministry’s head of the religious sector, Sheikh Jaber Taya, said in a press statement on Friday that Sheikh Younis is an Imam and preacher at Ali bin Abi Talib mosque, which is under Awqaf al-Salam’s management. Yunis was referred to the ministry of interior for investigation, Taya added.

Disgrace to uniform
Meanwhile,
...back at the buffalo wallow, Yellow Wolf clutched at his chest and fell from his horse...
al-Azhar also condemned the holy man’s actions, stressing that he had disgraced the Azhari uniform.

Similarly, al-Azhar observatory said that the Azhari dress to people and the Islamic world is associated with uniforms of religious scholars, students and people of fatwa. Therefore, it should not be worn when singing or practicing arts, even if they are purposeful and upscale, added the observatory.

Arabia
Bahrain FM: We moved against Qatar over its support for terrorism
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Bahrain’s Foreign Minister told the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
General Assembly that his country took action against Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
over the latter’s support and financing of terrorism.

"Unfortunately, terrorism has become a tool of nations who use it to destabilize the world. We call for deterrence of states and organizations who support terrorism," Bahrain’s Foreign Minister Sheikh Khalid bin Ahmed Al Khalifa told world leaders at the UN in New York on Saturday.

Al-Khalifa said that Bahrain, Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, UAE and Egypt had every sovereign right to take the decision to sever ties with Qatar after patiently waiting for their actions to change, pointing out that Doha supported terrorist acts in the Kingdom of Bahrain to overthrow the regime.

The Bahraini foreign minister also talked about how the Iranian people are suffering from misery by using their government’s use of their resources to support terrorism, accusing Tehran of supporting terrorist organizations such as Hezbollah, adding that normal relations with Iran depend on the latter halting all its support for terrorism in the region.

ISIS fighters film their own death on Go Pro camera at hands of Syrian regime
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A video appeared last week showing the moment of three ISIS fighters were blown up after being attacked by a Syrian regime tank.

The video was reportedly recorded using a Go Pro camera, which was found after the demolition of the armored military vehicles belongs to the militias by the Syrian Regime forces and the Lebanese Hezbollah and were in use by ISIS.

ISIS fighters appeared on the back of the armored vehicle with a submachine gun, before they realize the Syrian regime army tank fast approaching them.

ISIS faceless myrmidons have been known to train in the manufacture of armored vehicles and have been using them as cover in attacking and invading operations, as well as during suicide kaboom missions.

It appeared in the video that two of the ISIS fighters were on the top of the armored vehicle and were issuing orders to a third bad boy who was driving the vehicle.

In the next moment, they were asking for assistance from anti-tank units through their radio.

At the end of the video, a huge kaboom threw them out after being directly targeted with a bomb from the Syrian regime tank.

According to Wahid, the police had to conduct several raids before the Abdul Ghani was apprehended from the Mosam Ghari area in Peshawar, two days after the murder.

Time Inc in talks to sell assets; warns on third-quarter ad revenue softness
[REUTERS] Time Inc (TIME.N) said on Friday it was looking to sell several assets, including Time Inc UK, and warned it experienced more-than-anticipated softness in both print and advertising revenue during the current quarter.

The publisher, which said in April that it would not sell itself, said assets identified for sale include Time Customer Service and a majority stake in the Essence magazine.

The assets marked for divestitures represent about $488 million, or 17 percent of total revenue for the 12-months ended June 30, the company said.

A sale may be announced as early as the fourth quarter, the company said in a regulatory filing on Friday. bit.ly/2xkudm5

The New York-based publisher of Sports Illustrated, People and namesake Time said it experienced softness in both print and advertising revenue during the current quarter relative to the forecast issued during the second-quarter earnings call.

The breakup of Pakistan 1969-1971
[DAWN] IN her book, The Struggle for Pakistain: A Moslem Homeland and Global Politics, Ayesha Jalal writes about Gen Agha Muhammad Yahya Khan, who imposed martial law after replacing Gen Ayub Khan in March 1969 as president of Pakistain when the latter was forced out by street protests, that Yahya was a "boisterous fellow and determined drunkard [and] had a penchant for cavorting with abandon". Perhaps many would still remember Yahya for what Jalal calls his "nocturnal activities", since they "were the talk of the nation", and ’General Rani’ became part of what she calls "elite gossip".

However,
today is that tomorrow you were thinking about yesterday...
it is more probable that today Yahya Khan is remembered for two extraordinary developments that took place under his watch: the elections of 1970, and the subsequent massacre in East Pakistain, leading to the separation of the latter and the creation of Bangladesh. He played a key role in both events. Of course, Yahya, even if indeed he was perpetually inebriated, was not the lone player in what happened in 1970-71. Two other actors, Zulfikar Ali Bhutto

Bottom of the class
[DAWN] IT would take a person without a soul to be blind to the beauty of the images sent back from Saturn by the Cassini mission.

The planet’s rings, first discovered by Galileo in 1610, have fascinated mankind ever since. Huygens, a Dutch astronomer, made more detailed observations in 1655, but it was Cassini who, in 1675, determined that Saturn’s main ring was actually made of three rings that were composed of small pieces of ice.

After a journey of two billion miles that took seven years, the Nasa spacecraft Cassini spent 13 years circling the planet and many of its 62 moons. The European probe Huygens that it released over Titan has sent amazing photographs of an orange moon where rivers of methane have sculpted the inhospitable surface. But it was Enceladus that provided the biggest surprise with its plumes of water shooting into space. Together with the molecules of carbon-based substances detected by Cassini, the moon would appear to have the components for life, no matter how basic.

China limits oil trade to North Korea and bans textile trade
A statement from China's commerce ministry said restrictions on refined petroleum products would apply from 1 October, and on liquefied natural gas immediately.

Under the UN resolution, China will still be able to export a maximum of two million barrels of refined petroleum to North Korea annually, beginning next year.

North Korea is estimated to have imported 6,000 barrels of refined petroleum daily from China in 2016 - the equivalent of nearly 2.2 million in total for the entire year.

But China has not published data on oil exports since 2014.

Abu Sayyaf mangled his arm but not his determination
By Sharyl Attkisson

[The Hill] General Lito Sobejana's arm was shot to pieces by an AK-47 in a firefight the Abu Sayyaf nearly twenty years ago. He had led an operation that hunted down and killed the group's founder Abdurajak Abubakar Janjalani.

“Right there, that’s where it happened,” Sobejana tells me as he gestures toward the island of Basilan. The arm was saved only because the U.S. flew him to Hawaii where he received the best medical treatment. He’s also been shot in the leg. For his bravery, he’s received the Philippine military’s the highest award: a medal of valor.

1 dead in Friday car bomb attack in al-Mahmoudiya

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) A civilian was killed, while four others were wounded as two bomb blasts took place in south and east of Baghdad, a security source was quoted saying on Friday.

Moreover, “A lawyer was killed after being profoundly injured as bomb exploded under his car in Husseiniyat al-Rashidiya, east of Baghdad.”

The capital has seen almost daily bombings and armed attacks against security members, paramilitary groups and civilians since the Iraqi government launched a wide-scale campaign to retake IS-occupied areas in 2016. While most of of the explosions and attacks went without a claim of responsibility, Islamic State has claimed several incidents.

5 die in bombing attack in Youssefiya

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Two blasts hit areas in south and southeastern Baghdad on Saturday, leaving nine people dead and injured, according to security sources.

Baghdad News quoted a security source saying that an explosive device went off near an industrial area in Youssefiya, southeast of Baghdad, leaving five people injured.

Another bomb exploded near a popular market in Nahrawan, south of the capital, leaving one dead and three wounded, the source added.

Victims were rushed to hospitals while security teams searched the areas for investigation.

4 suicide bombers die in attack attempt

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) Three militants were killed as Iraqi troops thwarted terrorist attempt to target attacks in Baghdad and southern provinces, the military media said.

In a statement on Saturday, the Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said, “Federal Police’s intelligence revealed about a cell that plans for terrorist operations in Baghdad and southern provinces to target Shia visitors.”

“According to information, the terrorists assigned suicide bombers to carry out the operations,” the statement said indicating coordination with troops in Ramadi, backed by army jets, to attack the cell.

“The clashes left three attackers killed including abu Baraa al-Turkmani. Explosives were found,” it added.

22-year-old lieutenant martyred in attack on Rajgal valley border: ISPR
[DAWN] The funeral prayers of lieutenant Arsalan Alam were offered in the Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
Garrison an Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) blurb said on Saturday.

The funeral was attended by the Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
(KP) governor Iqbal Zafar Jhagra, Corps Commander Peshawar Lt Gen Nazir Butt along with the lieutenant's relatives and other civil and military officials. He will be laid to rest in his home town with "full military honour".

The 22-year-old lieutenant was martyred earlier today in a terrorist attack on the Pak post in Rajgal valley. Alam, who was the commanding officer of the post got hit and was killed.

The blurb said that the attack was carried out from the other side of the border.

The Pakistain Army recently concluded Operation Khyber IV in the Rajgal valley and declared that the area was cleared off terrorists. However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
Director General ISPR, Major Asif Ghafoor had said that the army cannot carry out operations against terror elements present on Afghan soil.

"We took action in the border belt area at the cost of certain reservations from Afghanistan; but we cannot take action against terrorist infrastructure deep inside Afghanistan as a responsible country, as it is a sovereign country and has their own force, and the Resolute Support mission is also there," he had said.

The news website further reported that Salem was a only holder of a technical diploma, which is equivilant to a vocational training diploma.

The case is the second of its kind after earlier this week after a New York deli worker, Hatem al-Jamasi, was hosted on Egyptian media as a US based political analyst specializing on Middle East issues.

Salem admitted to Masrawy that he only has a technical diploma, adding that after he attained it, he read several books to gain knowledge and appear on TV through his connections with some program producers.

He also said that he was on the verge of presenting a program about human development and fourth generation warfare on a private television channel.

His television appearances made him famous in his town of Minya.

Several deadly attacks in Turkey that killed more than 300 people since 2015 have been blamed on IS.

Along with combatting the holy warrior group's cells inside its borders, Turkey launched a military operation in northern Syria in August 2016 to clear the border zone of IS members after a suicide bomb destroyed a street wedding in Turkey's Gaziantep province.

Iraq
Iraqi Kurdish leader Barzani delays independence vote announcement
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi Kurdish leader Massud Barzani on Saturday delayed a scheduled news conference on a controversial independence referendum he has called for next week as international pressure mounts for a postponement.

There has been uncertainty about whether the vote will go ahead on Monday as Iraq’s key allies the United States and Iran, as well as powerful neighbor The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, have stepped up their opposition.

"The news conference will take place on Sunday and the time and venue will be announced later," Barzani’s office said without elaborating. On Friday, the Iraqi Kurdish leader had insisted that the vote would be held as planned, despite a warning from the UN Security Council that it was "potentially destabilizing."

"The referendum is no longer in my hands, nor is it in those of the (political) parties -- it is in your hands," Barzani told a large crowd at a football stadium in Arbil, capital of the autonomous Kurdish region. But behind the scenes negotiations are still taking place aimed at persuading Barzani to postpone any referendum, according to officials close to the discussions.

Iran and Turkey both have sizeable Kurdish populations of their own and fear the vote will stoke separatist aspirations at home. The federal government in Baghdad is also opposed to the referendum, which it has called unconstitutional.

On Thursday, the UN Security Council urged "dialogue and compromise" to address differences between the Iraqi government and the regional authorities.

It also said the vote could weaken the military campaign against ISIS "in which Kurdish forces have played a critical role."
Baghdad this week launched offensives to oust ISIS from the last two pockets it controls in Iraq.

Olde Tyme Religion
On strange, ignorant fatwas
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Now and then, holy mans and preachers issue controversial fatwas (religious edicts) sparking media criticism, sometimes across the entire world. Some examples are the fatwa to kill Mickey Mouse or to breastfeed adults. A holy man once even said that driving might negatively affect women’s ovaries. Most recently, Egyptian preacher Sabri Abdel Raouf issued a fatwa saying men can have sex with their dead wives!

This recent fatwa made headlines across the world, just like any other shocking or illogical fatwa. These matters are no longer local affairs that concern a certain country as these news are now covered by CNN or Russian, British and even Japanese dailies.

The Journalists Syndicate Council in Egypt decided to suspend Ahmad Abdoun, the host of the program, "What are they wondering about?", which airs on the satellite channel LTC, because he hosted Sabri.

The syndicate said in a statement that it suspended Abdoun after the legal committee detected "the moral and professional error live during the show" as he aired an immoral fatwa that says men can have sex with their dead wives, which is called by some as "farewell intercourse."

Stirring up controversy
Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, Jack stuck the cigar in his mouth, stepped onto the gantry, and asked Got a light, Mac?

Von Schtinken stopped short, lowering the dagger and trying to control his features.

If you light that thing, Herr Armschtröng, he pointed out, his voice tense, we all die!...

in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Doctor Saad al-Hajri, a preacher who also issues fatwas, stirred up controversy after he said women cannot drive because they lack in reason and their reason will further deteriorate the more they drive.

There are so many strange fatwas and opinions which the media cannot be blamed for covering because it’s always looking for strange stories to report on. Does it get weirder than this?

Fatwas are in the end a "live" interaction between a religious guide with facts and contexts of a different "era" which in all cases require an "appropriate" perspective.

Scholars during the first centuries were braver than their present day counterparts. One can take a look at what scholars in Andalusia, Morocco, Egypt, the Levant and Hejaz did to see the difference.

What’s worth noting is that fatwas and statements no longer target a local audience as they now reach everyone everywhere.

Suspending Sabri or Hajri is a subsequent procedure but the main story is that criticism now comes from all over the world as these stories become noticed.

Merkel booed on final day of campaign in Munich
[RT] Two days before German federal elections, Angela Merkel, who is going for a fourth term as Chancellor, found her closing campaign rally in Munich crashed by right-wing protesters, who booed and heckled her for half an hour as she made her speech.

This did not prevent the German leader from giving her prepared 30-minute speech, but she added an improvised detail as an opening remark to her opponents.

“With whistling and yelling, one will surely not shape Germany’s future,” Merkel told the protesters on the last day election campaigning is allowed to take place.

This is not the first time Merkel has been disrupted by demonstrators on the campaign trail. At a rally in Heidelberg earlier in September, the Chancellor was grazed by a thrown tomato, which left a faint, but visible, stain on her red jacket.

#8  Union = CDU/CSU (Christian Democrat Union and Christian Social Union, in Bavaria). Used to be Conservative, but has been moved to the center-left by Merkel. CSU is more conservative than CDU

SPD = Social Democrats

FDP = Liberal Democrats (Liberal means classical liberal)

Greens = Used to be left, but part of it isn't anymore. Have a strong politically correct nanny state attitude. On local levels they can be quite ok)

Left = radical Left

AfD = Allianz für DEutschland, a new right wing party founded when the Euro crisis hit (wasn't far right then), then veered to the right. Some (but not all) members are radical right wingers.

Coalition will probably be formed by Union (black), FDP (yellow) and Greens, hence the name "Jamaica coalition"

#11  Coalition will probably be formed by Union (black), FDP (yellow) and Greens, hence the name "Jamaica coalition"

Which would imply that Merkel stays in power.

Based on her previous behaviour I predict she'll move much further to the left in a surprising and shocking policy shift. A logical next step would be a move to create a new armed auxiliary police force recruited from among the refugees.

Whatever she may be planning, her intentions are not good. She was raised as an unorthodox theocratic Communist and she's been ruling Germany like one.

#12  For now, probably yes.
But the CSU (I'm an active member) will not tolerate this for long. Merkel is deeply unpopular in Bavaria and is dragging down the CSU.

I now believe that the CSU, whoich has always been confined to Bavaria, may seek a national role, drain the AfD (they aren't all Nazis, of course, most are just concerned about Merkel's dismal policy), push for a better migrant policy.

We'll see. I don't think "Jamaica" will last very long.

#14  Why is AfD so dominant around Dresden?

Aside: many communist parties of Europe renamed themselves "The Left" after the Fall of the Wall (aka End of the Soviet Union). In my book any association who call themselves "left" or "socialist" or "environmentalist" are self-proclaimed enemies of mankind, same as communists always were.

Sharpton says Trump’s Colin Kaepernick comments show the President’s ‘political cowardice’
[NYDAILYNEWS] The civil rights hustler Al Sharpton
...Tawana Brawley's spiritual advisor...
said on Saturday that President Trump’s crude call for NFL owners to fire protesting players completely misses the point of why they’re taking a knee in the first place.

"Why don’t you, as President, address what the protest is about? Why?" Sharpton asked as he addressed a cheering crowd during his weekly rally at his National Action Network headquarters in Harlem.

"The reason you won’t is because they’re protesting the criminal justice inequities in this country," a fired up Sharpton said to roaring applause.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
US, Russian militaries hold unprecedented talks on Syria
[APNEWS] Senior American and Russian military leaders met for an unprecedented, face-to-face session somewhere in the Middle East this week to discuss the growing tensions in the competing battles to retake one of the remaining Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
strongholds in Syria.

Syrian government forces, Russian special forces and U.S.-backed Lions of Islam are all battling IS around the oil-rich Deir el-Zour province. The talks are aimed at ensuring safety for all the different fighting elements.

The meeting, however, also suggests an expanded U.S. and Russian effort to coordinate their efforts, raising questions about how the Pentagon is adhering to an American prohibition against military-to-military cooperation with Moscow. Congress enacted that law in the wake of Russia’s annexation of the Crimea region of Ukraine in 2014.

Army Col. Ryan Dillon told Pentagon news hounds on Thursday that U.S. and Russian general officers shared maps, graphics and information about where their forces are battling around Deir el-Zour. He would not provide details on when or where the meeting occurred, beyond saying it took place in recent days somewhere in the region.

Dillon said he was withholding the location of the meeting because there may be follow-up talks. He didn’t say who was present or how long it lasted.

Asked Thursday about the growing turbulence with the Russians, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis told news hounds, "I am not worried, we continue to deal with the Russians in a collaborative way, we’ll sort this out."

U.S. officials in the past, however, have shied away from using words like collaborate and coordinate, to avoid the appearance of any military-to-military relationship with Russia that would cross the congressional line.

Four ‘facilitators’ arrested in Tania murder case
[DAWN] DADU: An investigation team constituted by Sindh IGP A.D. Khowaja to probe the murder case of Tania Khaskheli recorded statements of the aggrieved family and eyewitnesses in Jhangara-Bajara town near Sehwan, 48 kilometres from here, on Friday while police nabbed four controllers in the crime in Kotri.

The area’s landlord, Khan Mohammad Nohani, along with his henchmen, allegedly barged into the house of Tania, a student of class-X, on Sept 9 and shot her dead after the girl and her family turned down his marriage proposal, according to media reports.

Two members of the three-member team, Inspector Siraj Ahmed Lashari and Inspector Rana Shafiq Ahmed inspected the scene of the crime, collected evidence and recorded statements of family members Ghulam Qadir Khaskheli (father), Khurshid Begum (mother), Eman, Nadia and Mahak (sisters) and other eyewitnesses.

The team, whose head was additional IGP Aftab Pathan, also checked the roster at Jhangara-Bajara cop shoppe and the first report of the crime as it was written in it. The town’s police had failed to arrest three major suspects in the girl’s murder case.

Jhangara-Bajara SHO Mazhar Naich said that two main suspects Maula Bux and Khan Nohani had already been placed in durance vile
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
while police were conducting raids to nab the remaining ones.

Late Tania’s mother Khurshid Begum told Dawn that the family was continuously receiving threats from the suspects and they were threatening them to leave the town or get killed. She was feeling unsafe and needed more protection, she said.

Sehwan ASP Dr Sami Malik said that police had already provided protection to the victim family as it was now their responsibility. Police conducted more raids on a number of places to arrest more suspects in the light of new information gleaned from the arrested suspects and other sources, he said.

Kotri police raided Chhandan Wah near Matiari town and succeeded to arrest four suspects identified as Nazeer Ahmed Solangi, Nadeem Sheikh, Baqir Sheikh and Nadir Nohani of Sehwan who were stated to be controllers in the Tania murder case. They had escaped to Chhandan Wah after the girl’s murder, said police.

Jamshoro SSP Irfan Bahdur said the investigation was moving ahead at satisfactory pace as police had succeeded in arresting the main suspects while the remaining ones too would be held within no time.

He said that police would never show leniency to any influential suspect wanted in the case and arrest him sooner or later. The suspects nabbed by Kotri police were being interrogated, he said.

Sindhiani Tehrik central leader Husna Rahoojo along with a delegation of her party leaders, PML-N MNA Marvi Memon and MPA Soorath Thebo and PPP MPA Saeed Ghani offered condolences to late Tania’s father and assured him of their support.

Group of men carry out acid attack in London
[NYDAILYNEWS] An acid attack took place in London Saturday, days after a similar attack in La Belle France left two American students injured.

Metropolitan Police said its officers were responding to a "group of males spraying what was believed to be a noxious substance" at different locations near a shopping center in Stratford in east London, at about 8 p.m.

Police said up to six people were maimed.

Video taken from the Stratford tube station appeared to show officials tending to victims in a curtained area.

Authorities responded to an apparent acid attack at the Stratford tube station in east London Saturday evening.

One male was enjugged
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm.

Police do not believe the incident is terror-related.
Meaning it probably wasn't directed by ISIS operatives in Raqqa or Tal Afar, not that it wasn't Moslem colonists having traditional fun with the kaffirs.
Update from the Daily Mail at 1:00 pm EDT:
A 15-year-old boy has been arrested on suspicion of causing grievous bodily harm in connection to the attack which saw six people injured, including two West Ham fans, when they were sprayed with acid near the Stratford Centre in east London.

Police have ruled out terrorism. Witnesses claimed the substance was thrown by 'young black teenage males'
...where black means anyone who is not visibly Caucasian, and no hint whether the vicious idiots are members of the Master Religion...
after an argument broke out.

Three of the victims, including one of the football fans, were rushed to hospital after they were sprayed with the liquid following an 'altercation' between the two groups of males.

Scotland Yard confirmed none of the injuries were either life-changing or life-threatening and they are now pouring over CCTV footage in a bid to aid their investigation.

Harry Eason, who was at a wedding reception at the Old Town Hall in Stratford with a group of friends at the time of the attack, told MailOnline how he saw a group of around 15 black boys no older than 18 arguing with another older group by the McDonald's entrance to the Stratford Centre, which is another entrance to the Burger King.

Mr Eason told MailOnline: 'It was around 8pm and there were a group of what I think were football fans. They were shouting and arguing near the McDonald's and the football fans called them back again after they walked away.

'There was a bit of pushing and shoving and then one of the young boys wearing a balaclava went away for no longer than about 30 seconds. He came back with the bottle and then sprayed the other group.

'The group of lads then started cheering and shouting as the older guys ran through the entrance to the shopping centre.'

Mr Eason said that he believes the altercation outside McDonald's was the first attack on the group, and that the younger group of boys could have caught up with the older group outside Burger King, which is another entrance to the Stratford Centre, where they could have thrown more acid on people.
The Daily Mail thoughtfully added this sidebar:
Children as young as two are acid attack victims
Police forces across the UK have recorded 90 incidents involving 'noxious or corrosive substances' involving children under 18-years-old, a Sunday Times investigation has found.

More than a dozen of those crimes involved children under 12, including youngsters aged four, five and six. Children as young as 12 were carrying the strong sulphuric acids and alkalis into school, which include caustic soda and bleach, disguised in drink bottles.

Just this month, Greater Manchester Police recorded a 'violent offence' involving bleach was used on a six-year old boy.

Former gang member Gwenton Sloley said: 'The young people I have spoken to think it's the best thing they have discovered since mobile phones and Play Stations. They have the power for once.'

He also claimed more needed to be done to educate children about the lasting damage the horrific crime can cause.

The Sunday Times asked 48 police forces across the UK for the number of acid incidents since January 2014 where the victim of suspected offender was under 18 - yet only 32 responded within the time frame set out by the Freedom of Information rules.

Many police forces covering London, Merseyside and the West Midlands missed the statutory time frame, which could mean the number of crimes could be more than the 90 incidents recorded.

Dem calls for all NFL players to kneel during national anthem
[THEHILL] Former Democratic Rep. Donna Edwards (D-Md.) tweeted that she hopes all NFL players kneel during the national anthem on Sunday in response to President Trump's remarks attacking Colin Kaepernick.

Edwards, who left Congress earlier this year, called Trump a "white supremacist who squats in our White House" in her tweet.

Trump suggested at a rally Friday night for Alabama Senate candidate Luther Strange (R) that NFL players like Kaepernick who kneel during the national anthem should be fired and fans should walk out.

"Wouldn't you love to see one of these NFL owners, when somebody disrespects our flag, to say, 'Get that son of a b---- off the field right now,'" Trump said, adding, "'He is fired.'"
