Colonists Migrants Dressed As Volleyball Team Nabbed By Greek Police
[SBS.au] Greek police have arrested 10 migrants dressed as a volleyball team at Athens airport before they could fly to Switzerland after their passports didn't match.

Ten migrants posing as a volleyball team
The Idlib Orks ?
were arrested at Athens' International Airport trying to travel with illegally obtained passports, Greek police said on Sunday.

Police said the migrants, who had entered Greece without legal documents, arrived at the Eleftherios Venizelos airport on Saturday hoping the disguise would get them past controls more easily.

They wore matching outfits, carried matching sports bags and, for good measure, brought two volleyballs.
When asked to dribble though they whipped out their peepees and wet the floor. And ze game was up !
But border police established that the passports they presented had been illegally obtained, and arrested the group.

According to police sources, they are Syrian nationals who had hoped to travel to Zurich with Ukrainian passports.

Migrants arriving in Greece often make great efforts to slip through closed Greek frontiers to reach other destinations.

According to the latest official numbers, there are more than 26,600 asylum seekers in overcrowded camps on Lesbos, Chios and Samos, the Greek islands at the forefront of the migrant influx.

'Howdy, Modi !' - Trump attends Indian PM's rally in Houston, Islamists Fret Outside
[AlJazeera] US President Donald Trump has joined a rally in Texas to welcome Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is visiting the United States - a rare mass showing for a foreign leader on the American soil despite trade tensions between the two countries.

Nearly 50,000 Indian Americans and Non-Resident Indians
Even from California, Alaska, Hawaii...
gathered at Houston city's NRG Stadium on Sunday for the "Howdy, Modi!" rally hosted by Hindu nationalist Modi's supporters in the US.

Outside the stadium, thousands of nonpeople protested against Modi over the alleged human rights violations in Indian-administered Kashmir and other places targeting India's minorities, including Muslims, who make up about 170 million of India's 1.3 billion population.
A growing tragedy we must nip in the bud !
"Howdy, my friends," Modi said as he began his address. "When you say 'Howdy, Modi', my answer is that everything is fine in India."

The 69-year-old Indian leader said he admired Trump for his "sense of leadership" and "strong resolve to make America great again".

"From CEO to commander-in-chief, from boardrooms to the Oval Office, from studios to the global stage...he has left a lasting impact everywhere," Modi said, with the US president standing by his side.

Amid chants of "USA, USA" by the crowd, Trump in his address said Modi is "doing a truly exceptional job for India".

"We are proud to have you as Americans. We thank you, we love you, and my administration is fighting for you every day," the US leader said.

"We are committed to protect innocent civilians from radical Islamic terrorism," said Trump, prompting a loud cheer from the audience - including Modi - who stood up from their seats.
And now the leftist whining about cracked femurs and rubber bullets in the face to islamists.
Reporting from Houston, Al Jazeera's Kimberly Halkett said the rally gave Modi a chance to "gloss over" the criticism his government has been facing over India's crackdown in Muslim-majority Kashmir.

"[It's] a chance to try and beam across the world not just in India, but in the United States and the international newspapers, and a chance to appear on stage with US President Donald Trump to gloss over much of the international criticism about his nationalist brand of politics," she said.
What the write-up doesn't mention is how Democrat congressmen had to sit there and watch the show. Pakistan and Iran were excoriated, and the UN interference in sovereignties hinted at. And at the end, Modi's shout out to all present to vote for Trump and support a Trump administration.

#6  It is why I keep insisting that Americans hold fast to and uphold their christian themes. Even if a truly christian lifestyle is out of the question for an 'intellectually awakened' society, even a ritual and purely superficial schema of religious imperatives would suffice to stifle islamic and liberal dissent.

Hindus are only superficially religious. There's no real god but oneself and one's appetites and boundaries. But they've clung to that like mad. It's useless to progress, religion. But it gives you clear archetypes to conform to and defines the 'them' and 'us' for not just legislatures but law enforcement to judiciary. And gives the berserkers in society a momentum in times of challenge that is unstoppable.

Interestingly this theory is from the Arthashastra - the Indian equivalent of Machiavelli's 'Prince'.

Vatican Names Abortion Promoter Jeffrey Sachs as ‘Special Invitee' to Amazon Synod
[Breitbart] ROME ‐ The Vatican published the list of participants in its upcoming pan-Amazon Synod Saturday, which includes as "special invitee" Jeffrey D. Sachs, who is among the world’s foremost proponents of population control.

In his 2008 book Common Wealth: Economics for a Crowded Planet, Sachs argued for legalizing abortion as a cost-effective way to eliminate "unwanted children" when contraception fails.

Abortion, he wrote, is a "lower-risk and lower-cost option" than having unwanted children born into the world.

The "legalization of abortion reduces a country’s total fertility rate significantly, by as much as half a child on average," he wrote approvingly, while criticizing America’s "Mexico City Policy," which denies funding to NGOs that perform or promote abortions.

Particularly in Africa, he wrote, abortion should be legalized and family planning programs made to "cater to adolescents as well as to married households."

Sachs was also the lead architect of the U.N.’s Millennium Development Goals and pleaded for countries to include "sexual and reproductive health" and "reproductive rights" in the scheme, after they were initially left out, which eventually led to their inclusion over and against objections from the Holy See and the United States.

Sachs wrote that the Cairo Plan of Action, which called for universal access to reproductive healthcare including abortion, was "one of the most important Millennium Promises," noting that "population policy is integral to the overall challenge of sustainable development."

Naperville among the top 50 cities in U.S. at risk of housing slump, website report says
[Chicago Tribune] The housing market in Naperville and other collar county communities are showing signs of trouble, according to an online company that evaluated 500 of the largest cities in America.

Naperville ranked No. 46 in an assessment by GOBankingRates.com of communities at risk of heading into a real estate market downturn, though it does not mean a crash is imminent.

The website that connects readers with interest rates on financial services analyzed data from 500 U.S. cities on such things as foreclosure rates, median home listing prices, percentage of home listings where prices were cut and mortgages that are higher than a home’s worth. All the data was compiled on Aug. 20.

GOBankingRates said while Naperville consistently makes various lists of "best places to live," the city’s housing market has been slumping and home prices have dropped more than 2% the past two years.

The median list price in Naperville was $439,990, the website said.

Government
Feds may pull grant on Islamic Studies program at Duke, UNC
[NYP] The Trump administration may cut off funding for a Middle East studies program run by the University of North Carolina and Duke University because the program is misusing the federal money to promote the "the positive aspects of Islam" but not Christianity or Judaism.

The program has received grants for nearly a decade through a government program intended to prepare students for careers in diplomacy and national security. It got $235,000 last year.

The Education Department reviewed the program as part of a broader effort to root out anti-Semitism in universities, following a complaint from Rep. George Holding (R-N.C.) about a taxpayer-funded conference with "severe anti-Israeli bias and anti-Semitic rhetoric." The conference, titled "Conflict Over Gaza: People, Politics and Possibilities," included a rapper who performed a "brazenly anti-Semitic song," Holding said in an April 15 letter.

The probe found that the North Carolina program planned to use federal money on programs that are "plainly unqualified for taxpayer support," and said in an Aug. 29 letter to the schools that foreign language and national security instruction have "taken a back seat to other priorities." The letter said the program would be defunded if it wasn’t revised by Sept. 22.

A statement from UNC-Chapel Hill said the consortium "deeply values its partnership with the Department of Education" and is "committed to working with the department to provide more information about its programs."

Europe
Germany: 70 percent of crime suspects in Hamburg's ‘gay district' are foreigners
[Voice of Europe] In Hamburg’s St. Georg district, a district well-known for its large gay community, suspects involved in violent crimes are overwhelmingly foreigners, according to a newly released report.

An information request submitted by the populist-nationalist Alternative for Germany (AfD) has revealed that 71.3 percent of suspected violent criminals are foreigners, up from 67 percent in 2017, Junge Freiheit reports.

The report also notes that the proportion of suspects who have a migrant background isn’t entirely clear since many are processed as ’German’.

St. Georg and St. Pauli districts are regarded by police as high crime areas in Hamburg. Immigrants comprise 23.3 percent of the population in St. George, while 27.9 percent of St. Pauli’s population is composed of immigrants.

In response to the uptick in violent crimes committed by foreigners, a top AfD official in Hamburg’s state Parliament has urged the government to take action.

"The red-green senate must finally act. Delinquent aliens should be deported immediately to make Hamburg safer. It’s obvious that multiculturalism is serving as a forerunner of a society with a sense of violence," chairman of the AfD faction in Hamburg Parliament, Dirk Nockemann declared.

Nockemann’s words come just days after a scathing speech was delivered on the floor of the Bundestag by Alternative for Germany’s co-leader Alice Weidel, who slammed globalist lawmakers for ruining the country through their propagation of catastrophic migration policies.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
The DS and Brennan scheme to destroy Mike Flynn may be falling apart
[Townhall] Two court filings from the last month suggest U.S. and British intelligence agencies used the Russian-born Svetlana Lokhova and a complicit press to peddle the Russia-collusion narrative and to destroy Trump’s former national security adviser Michael Flynn. But the masterminds behind Spygate made a fatal mistake in casting Lokhova as a Russian operative with designs on Flynn, as her recently filed amended complaint proves.

Lokhova, who left Russia as a teen and became a British citizen in 2002, made headlines in May 2019, when she sued outed informant and "ratf-cker" Stefan Halper. Lokhova’s original complaint claimed Halper, the Wall Street Journal, the New York Times, the Washington Post, and MSNBC defamed her.

The defendants "embroiled an innocent woman in a conspiracy to undo the 2016 Presidential election and topple the President of the United States of America," Lokhova alleged. She continued: "Halper manufactured and published numerous false and defamatory statements," including that she was "’a Russian spy’ and a traitor to her country and that Plaintiff had an affair with General Flynn on the orders of Russian intelligence."

Her initial complaint laid out the details of the alleged conspiracy between Halper and the media outlets. But it was the amended complaint Lokhova filed at the end of August that connected Halper, British intelligence, and the press with former CIA Director John Brennan and a concerted effort to destroy Flynn ‐ which explains why the motion to compel under seal in the Flynn criminal case earlier this month included a demand by defense counsel Sidney Powell for prosecutors to turn over the following:
All payments, notes, memos, correspondence, and instructions by and between the FBI, CIA, or DOD with Stefan Halper‐going back as far as 2014‐regarding Michael Flynn, Svetlana Lokhova, Mr. Richard Dearlove (of MI6), and Professor Christopher Andrew (connected with MI5) and Halper’s compensation through the DOD Office of Net Assessment as evidenced by the whistleblower complaint of Adam Lovinger, addressed in our brief.
If the year 2014 seems antiquated compared to the Russia-collusion narrative that didn’t hit its stride until mid-to-late 2016, that’s exactly what Lokhova thought too.

American diplomats in Cuba may have been exposed to pesticides, not 'sonic weapons'
[LI] Legal Insurrection readers may recall that in 2017, after several American diplomats developed odd neurological problems that were theorized to be caused by sonic attacks, President Donald Trump ordered all non-essential personnel out of Cuba, then sent 15 Cuban diplomats packing.

Subsequently, in May of 2018, American diplomats in China developed similar symptoms.

Now, a new study proposes that the affected employees may have been exposed to a pesticide that caused their health effects.
The mysterious high-pitched buzzing sound associated with the so-called "sonic attacks" on nearly 40 U.S. and Canadian diplomats living in Cuba may have been caused by a neurotoxic agent used to kill mosquitoes, a new study commissioned by the Canadian government claims.

...There have been various theories floated ‐ everything from crickets to microwave weapons ‐ as to the cause of the headaches, dizziness and other concussion-like symptoms.

Global Affairs Canada commissioned a clinical study to get to the bottom of the case.

"The working hypothesis actually came only after we had most of the results," Alon Friedman, the study’s lead author, told Canada’s CBC News.

The suite of symptoms was described as the "Havana syndrome" and included headaches, blurred vision, dizziness, shriveling nuts which soon fell off, and tinnitus.
Canadian diplomats were affected by similar reactions to US counterparts ‐ though the study noted that the symptoms of the Canadians were more gradual than the "acute, directional... auditory stimulus" in some of the US cases.

The study notes that tests carried out on 28 participants ‐ seven of whom were tested both before and after being posted to Havana ‐ support a diagnosis of brain injury acquired by diplomats and their families while in Cuba.

The patterns of brain injury "all raise the hypothesis of recurrent, low-dose exposure to neurotoxins", the report said.

Specifically, the results were "highly suggestive" of something called cholinesterase inhibitor intoxication.

Cholinesterase is an important enzyme in the human nervous system, and blocking it through an inhibitor can lead to death. The chemical weapon, Sarin, is an example of a potent cholinesterase inhibitor, as is VX, which was used in the killing of Kim Jong-nam, the half-brother of North Korea’s leader.

But the low, consistent doses the researchers believe were delivered are consistent with exposure to commercial pesticides, the study’s authors said.

The timing is suggestive: The Cubans had stepped-up their fumigation efforts in the wake of the Zika outbreak.
Some pesticides work by inhibiting cholinesterase, the report said, and during the 2016-2018 period when diplomats became ill normal fumigation in Cuba was stepped up due to the Zika epidemic in the Caribbean.

The report said the diplomats’ illnesses coincided with increased fumigation in and around residences where they lived. One of the authors of the study, the professor Alon Friedman, clarified in an email to Reuters that both Canadian and Cuban authorities were fumigating.

#4  It should be useful to know if some of the affected diplomats were taking Alzheimer's, Parkinson's or schizophrenia medication. Since moderate acetylcholinesterase inhibitors are used in those meds (like donepezil hydrochloride), even a low dose fumigation of pesticides near someone under medication could maybe lead to that.

That an entire contingent of diplomats would be actually senile or loony and didn't tell the medics is not my assertion though. Just that it's... possible. Was everyone affected or just some people ?

OK, after a calming sip of coffee, I'm going with b). One of the things I cherish about Rantburg is the high quality of both the snark and the discussion. In far too many places, "debate" consists of two sides endlessly trading talking points and insults. Ain't gonna add to it.

Carson outraged some San Francisco HUD staffers with his remarks about "big, hairy men" pretending to be women so they could get into women’s shelters. Cities across Illinois face pension shortfalls; some already cutting current services
[Liberty Unyielding] At least one has had to lay off 40 public safety workers to avoid insolvency. In other words, the city’s residents lose those current services because the revenues have to be used to service the pensions. The problem is disastrously widespread.

On Tuesday, the East St. Louis’ firefighter pension fund demanded that Illinois Comptroller Susana Mendoza intercept more than $2.2 million of East St. Louis city revenues so they could be diverted to the pension fund.

The fund trustees said the city shorted firefighter pensions by $880,000 in 2017 and another $1.3 million in 2018. Under a 2011 pension law, the state comptroller gained the powers to intercept city revenues on behalf of police and fire pension funds shorted by their municipalities. ...

The intercept law was first utilized in 2018, when Harvey, Illinois, revenues were garnished to pay the city’s police and firefighter pension funds.

Trending: Ilhan Omar’s teen daughter has harsh words for Trump: ’We are going to be voting you out’

That intercept of nearly $3.3 million led to the layoff of 40 public safety workers so the city could avoid insolvency. The city found it couldn’t simultaneously pay for both current workers and pensioners. ...

The most recent numbers show that 301 of Illinois’ 651 public safety pension funds, or 46 percent, were shorted their full payments in 2017, according to the actuarial standards published by the Illinois Department of Insurance.

Imagine a table. On that table the businesses and folks who work in the private sector place a portion of their earnings for government use. This portion is called 'taxes'.

From that table, the government takes bits and pieces to fund their programs for the 'betterment of the community'. Some of those bits and pieces are wages and pensions for the folks who work in the government, who don't really 'pay' taxes.

This statement usually gets the public workers' hackles up and they counter with "We pay Taxes!", to which the response from me is "No, you 'leave' taxes. The money was never yours to begin with."

Hilarity ensues.

Syrian army sends reinforcements to Israeli border - report
[Jpost] The Syrian army sent military reinforcements consisting of tanks, vehicles, soldiers, ammunition and weapons to the towns of Jamlah and Aabdyn near the Syrian border with the Israeli Golan Heights for unknown reasons, reported the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights (SOHR) on Saturday.

Earlier in September, SOHR reported that the Lebanese Hezbollah terrorist group was attempting to bring the Quneitra area located along the Israel-Syria border under its full control and was imposing its control over official establishments and departments in the area, while also recruiting youth and men in the area.
Iran got away with attacking Saudia, and now all the Shiites fell emboldened.

There's Enough Evidence Proving Ukraine SHOULD Investigate Hunter Biden
[The Lid] The liberals are going nuts because of the claim President Trump asked the Ukrainian President to investigate Hunter Biden for corruption that occurred when he was on the board of the Ukrainian natural gas company, Burisma Holdings. The liberals are ignoring many things including that there is plenty of evidence suggesting that there is probable cause for Hunter Biden to be investigated by Ukraine and that his father Joe may have used his position as Vice President to protect his son.

They are also failing to acknowledge the supposed whistleblower had no direct knowledge of the call between Trump and the Ukranian. Ukrainian Foreign Minister Vadym Prystaiko who does have direct knowledge denied reports that President Trump pressured Ukrainian leader Volodymyr Zelensky, "I know what the conversation was about, and I think there was no pressure. This conversation was long, friendly, and it touched on many questions, sometimes requiring serious answers." And the investigation began before Zelensky was elected on April 21, 2019 (John Solomon wrote about the investigation being started a month earlier), so if anything President Trump was urging Volodymyr Zelensky to keep the investigation going.

A senior member of Ukraine’s Prosecutor General’s International Legal Cooperation Dept. told John Solomon five months ago, that since last year, he’s been blocked from getting visas for himself and a team to go to the U.S. to deliver evidence of Democratic party wrongdoing during the 2016 election, and Hunter Biden corruption to the DOJ. The senior prosecutor Kostiantyn Kulyk never got an answer, and he says it’s because the visas were blocked by the U.S. Ambassador. The Ambassador, Marie L. Yovanovitch is a career diplomat (since 1986) was appointed to her present position in August 2016 by former President Obama and removed by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo. The attempt to make the Ukrainian Govt. happy and accept the evidence is the reason Guiliani got involved a month ago per John Solomon.

The Long Civil War
[PJ] If anyone thought the status quo would fold up after the hammer blows of the 2016 populist revolt, they were wrong. Ben Rhodes noted the effects of unremitting resistance with approval. "Bibi backsliding. Boris flailing... Fight back. It will work." Victor Davis Hanson conceded the crushing weight of the establishment riposte: "After nearly four years of ceaseless attacks by Democrats and the press, the strange thing is not that Trump can be occasionally wearisome, but that he is even still breathing."

The tone of the fight was set by Greta Thunberg's declaration to a crowd of environmental supporters: "We can't save the world by playing by the rules because the rules have to change." It was a ringing call to victory over the Deplorables, victory by any means necessary. It was as if the old legalisms themselves had become too restrictive to allow the truly good guys to win. As Hillary Clinton told an audience at George Washington University: "You can run the best campaign and have the best plans and get the nomination and win the popular vote and you can lose the Electoral College and therefore the election."

...She deserved to win but the rules betrayed her. If you can't win the old way, change the rules. To avoid another setback to history, Elizabeth Warren proposes to abolish the Electoral College. "Every vote matters, and the way we can make that happen is that we can have national voting, and that means get rid of the Electoral College," Ms. Warren said. If that doesn't work, keep getting rid of stuff until it does.

Joe Biden and Ukraine is "Hillary's Emails" all over again
[LI] We are in the middle of a media feeding frenzy over a supposed intelligence community whistleblower complaint on Trump’s conversation last summer with the Ukrainian president.

We know almost nothing about the complaint or the conversation, but that has not stopped a full-blown "we’ve got him now!" type joyfulness throughout the mainstream media and Never-Trump-land.

Lack of actual facts has not stopped Democrat candidates and various pundits from declaring that this is further ground for impeachment.

The initial claim was that Trump threatened to withhold aid to Ukraine if it didn’t investigate the business dealings of Joe Biden’s son, Hunter Biden, while Joe was Vice President. Then the story changed, and maybe there wasn’t a quid pro quo, and maybe the whistleblower never actually heard the conversation. And so on and so on, a classic case of how the media tries and convicts Trump based on anonymous, shifting, and usually misinformed leaks.

The foreign minister of Ukraine is now on record that there was no pressure put on the Ukrainian president in the conversation.

We’ve been here, done that, dozens of times. Is this time different? Will they "get" Trump on this? As with the Russia Collusion claims, I’ll take it seriously when there is actual evidence. Until then, it’s just politically driven mischief masquerading as news.

As an aside, there is a pernicious effect to leaking conversations a U.S. president has with the leaders of foreign countries, something that has plagued Trump since the start of his administration. But that’s a post for another time.

There is an important story here that may take down a candidate. That candidate isn’t Donald Trump, it’s Joe Biden.

Hong Kong protesters are calling for massive ATM withdrawals in an economic warning to China
Story from a Badanov 'Chinese banking withdrawals' tip.
[Business Insider] Hong Kong protesters have come up with a new nonviolent protest tactic ‐ taking all their money out of ATMs and banks to send a message to the People's Republic of China and Hong Kong Chief Executive Carrie Lam.
Story's dated Aug 15th
On August 16, Hong Kong protesters plan to withdraw as much money as possible from their banks or change their currency into US dollars, both to protect their own assets and to show the mainland that the semiautonomous island is more than just a cash cow.

Posts in LIHKG, Hong Kong's version of Reddit, show photos of hard currency withdrawn from banks, as well as ATMs declaring they're out of cash. While the official protest is set to take place on August 16, Hongkongers have begun to take out their cash in advance because they can withdraw only $20,000 per day.

The Hong Kong student who started this latest protest, which activists have named the Cashout HKD to USD, told INSIDER that as of Thursday, over 70 million Hong Kong dollars (nearly $9 million) had been withdrawn, both in Hong Kong currency and in US currency; the claim couldn't be independently verified. More than 400 protesters have recorded their withdrawals, and a Telegram channel for the protest has over 1,500 members.

Philadelphia's Simon Gratz HS football fans run for exits after shots fired
[ABC] Two teens injured in Philadelphia are the latest victims in a string of shootings that have taken place at or near high school football games across the country.

A 15-year-old and a 14-year-old were shot Friday night during a football game at Philadelphia's Simon Gratz High School, according to Philadelphia ABC affiliate WPVI.

The sound of the gunshots sent people running across the field as the P.A. announcer called on spectators to evacuate.

"Security, could you please clear the stadium," the announcer said as spectators sprinted across the field. "Everybody out."

It was not immediately clear if the shots rang out inside or outside the stadium, but police said multiple shell casings were found outside, according to reports. The shooting halted the game in the second quarter.

Police said no arrests have been made, and a weapon has not been recovered.

"People at the stadium, both the security, the police officers, and those that were present, are all trying to be helpful, but I think it was just such mayhem when the shooting rang out that nobody saw anyone with a gun," acting Philadelphia Police Commissioner Christine Coulter told WPVI.

The incident comes a week after two people were shot when gunfire erupted during a youth football game in Fort Worth, Texas, on Sept. 14.

Ex-Palm Beach top cop thinks Jeffrey Epstein had a police mole
[NYP] Jeffrey Epstein knew so much about the Palm Beach Police Department as it investigated him back in 2005, that he may have had someone inside tipping him off, the former police chief said Friday in his first in-depth interview.

The notorious pedophile multi-millionaire had somehow received advance warning of a search warrant, the ex-police chief, Michael Reiter, told Dateline NBC.

"The place had been cleaned up," Reiter recalled, noting that a computer that would have stored all of his Palm Beach mansion’s video surveillance had vanished.

"And all the wires were left hanging there," Reiter said.

A half-year into the investigation, Epstein appeared to know about details of the probe that had never been made public, he said.

The Dateline interview also included extensive interviews with Epstein "sex slave" accusers, most prominently Virginia Giuffre, who said she was just 17 when Prince Andrew bought her vodka and bedded her.

Beer flows as overcrowded Oktoberfest opens in Munich
BERLIN (AP) ‐ The first keg was tapped, and the beer started flowing as the 186th Oktoberfest got underway Saturday in the southern German city of Munich.

Mayor Dieter Reiter inserted the tap in the first keg with two blows of a hammer and the cry of "O’zapt is" ‐ "it’s tapped." As tradition demands, he handed the first mug to Bavarian governor Markus Soeder.

Even before the waitresses started bringing the one-liter (two-pint) beer mugs to customers at noon, the festival grounds were so overcrowded that security guards allowed entry only for people with reservations in one of the beer tents.

Revelers ‐ many women in colorful dirndl dresses and men in traditional Bavarian lederhosen ‐ started lining up in front of the gates before dawn to get inside.

"I took the first commuter train early this morning," Felix Stenglein from nearby Eichenau told German news agency dpa.

Shortly after 9 a.m., the festival’s organizers said the party could begin.

Greek police make arrest in 1985 hijacking of TWA Flight 847
ATHENS, Greece (AP) ‐ Greek police said Saturday they have arrested a suspect in the 1985 hijacking of a flight from Athens that became a multi-day ordeal and included the slaying of an American.

Police said a 65-year-old suspect in the hijacking was arrested Thursday on the island of Mykonos in response to a warrant from Germany.

Lt. Col. Theodoros Chronopoulos, a police spokesman, told The Associated Press that the hijacking case involved TWA Flight 847. The flight was commandeered by hijackers shortly after taking off from Athens on June 14, 1985. It originated in Cairo and had San Diego set as a final destination, with stops scheduled in Athens, Rome, Boston and Los Angeles.

The hijackers shot and killed U.S. Navy diver Robert Stethem, 23, after beating him unconscious. They released the other 146 passengers and crew members on the plane during an ordeal that included stops in Beirut and Algiers. The last hostage was freed after 17 days.

The suspect was in custody Saturday on the Greek island of Syros but was set to be transferred to the Korydallos high security prison in Athens for extradition proceedings, a police spokeswoman told The Associated Press. She said the suspect was a Lebanese citizen. The spokeswoman spoke on condition of anonymity because the case was ongoing.

Police refused to release the suspect’s name.

Britain
London Calling - Anyone Listening?
[American Thinker] My wife and I had the recent privilege of traveling to London and Germany for business and pleasure. As is my nature, I looked at these wonderful places partially through the lens of politics, chatting up taxi drivers, tour guides, and other locals to get a sense of the local political landscape.

At home I hear cable news and major newspapers railing nonstop against President Trump, telling their dwindling number of viewers and readers that the world hates Trump, that America should be emulating countries of the EU, and that Brexit, if it happens, will be the end of the United Kingdom as we know it.

Our media is called "fake news" for a reason. If one looks beyond the bleating cable news anchors, a more accurate picture emerges. As an example, compare the media polls showing President Trump’s approval percentage in the 30’s while his political rallies are packing arenas, attendees waiting a day or longer in line for the chance to see Trump in person. I want to share my observations beyond those of the media talking heads.

London’s Mayor Sadiq Kahn loathes President Trump, but do the people of London? Actually not. As one taxi driver told me, Londoners admire President Trump. Why? For one of the same reasons that tens of millions of Americans do. Trump says what he means and means what he says. Unlike most politicians, whether in the US or the UK, who say one thing while campaigning, then do something entirely different once in office, Trump is doing what he said he would do, a refreshing change from politics as usual in the UK and elsewhere.

Will Brexit happen? The UK has its own deep state, politicians and bureaucrats beholden to their donors and the globalists. New Prime Minister Boris Johnson, arriving at 10 Downing Street promising to honor the will of UK voters to pull the UK out of the EU, is much like Trump promising voters to build the wall, only to have Parliament or Congress throwing up roadblocks, thwarting the will of the people.

New Evidence Suggests Cory Booker, Kamala Harris and Others Were In On the Jussie Smollett Hoax
[Gateway Pundit] Jussie Smollet held a number of conversations with Cory Booker and Kamala Harris about supporting their sponsored Justice for Victims of Lynching Act and providing the needed public momentum for the bill to pass the Senate and House.

The timeline of these conversations (December 21-January 18, 2019) suggests that the death threat letter he sent himself (January 22-23) and his staged attack (January 29), were timed to create an opinion groundswell to support the bill and prop the political and professional career of the three masterminds.

It is noteworthy that both, Harris and Booker released separate statements condemning Smollet’s attack using the following identical language "an attempted modern-day lynching"

At the time Booker released his statement at 12:09 PM and Harris hers at 1:30 PM they could not have possibly known what the motive for the attack was because the police were only a few hours into the investigation.

The first tip that the Chicago police received regarding the true nature of the case came from within Smollett’s inner circle. One of his friends realized that he was now being investigated as a suspect, and decided that he didn’t want to be an accessory to a crime. He then contacted the police and told them that "the entire event was orchestrated by Smollett." This is another strong indicator that multiple participants knew about staged attack in advance.

Beyond the obvious question of how Smollett managed to shake off 16 felony charges without breaking a sweat, is the issue of Cory Booker’s and Kamala Harris’s involvement in the planning and orchestration of Smollett’s publicity stunt. All material evidence suggest that parts of the event were influenced by Booker and Harris.

Smollett was friends with the Obamas ‐

#6  True, there are loyal American folks too in the black community I guess. Maybe most of them, or half. The vermin though, who try to lead revolt and incite disloyalty are just too many I think. They have incredible reach and charisma.

What's also true is that the blacks were wronged maybe in the past. And the historic angst that gives them their momentum can only be contained through their betterment, concurrent with absolute prejudice for the wakandans among them. What I'm trying to say is, leaders really feel they have wronged them, and out of desperation shall continue to. Can't be helped. Their hope is to just sort of 'hold them down' until they can reach a place of forgiveness and acceptance. That will never happen. If our cultures endeavour to survive, the 'oppressed' shall have to either remain oppressed or give up their historic wrath. Until then only fear can hold them. And fear of the law today is worth jack shit.

#9  There are many parallels to the current realpolitik playing out in both countries. The players, if not the same seem to be inspired by a uniting global liberal ideology of building a utopia for unaccountably and corruption.

In Trump, we see an everyman American come to salvage his country from the brink, and bring back the bogeyman of Uncle Sam to the world. The same charisma is associated with our PM, back in the subcontinent. I'm looking forward to seeing how the MSM reports on the Texas event where Modi meets Trump, plus a handful of democrats who like to claim 'diverse India' as the go-to place to learn how to live together. They'll sport Indian ethnic wear and stuff and conspire to make us agree to their globalist consensus.

I have a list of Indian-origin marxist sympathizers and MSM mercenaries like Fareed Zakaria who like to create a narrative of volatility in this relationship, and the closeness of the Indian leadership more to Dems. They hate the Modi too, but keep to their Trump-bashing while gushing praise for the Indian PM, giving the impression in the west that everyone educated enough to read a paper here is also a fucking liberal.

A good backgrounder on the impending Musk speech on Starship at Boca Chica TX
[NASAspaceflight.com]

Elon Musk’s upcoming Starship presentation to mark 12 months of rapid progress.

SpaceX CEO Elon Musk is set to provide a highly anticipated update on the company’s Starship program on September 28th from Boca Chica, Texas. The presentation is expected to take place in front of the first nearly completed Starship prototype – capping off 12 months of rapid progress which has seen the program transition from fancy renders to reality.

Over the past few years, Musk has been conducting annual presentations on the status of SpaceX’s next-generation vehicles designed to colonize the Moon and Mars.

While the names of the vehicles have changed numerous times over the years, the spacecraft is currently called Starship with its first stage booster called Super Heavy.

The system is designed to be fully reusable – with both Super Heavy and Starship capable of landing propulsively.

During last year’s presentation, Musk announced that Japanese billionaire Yusaku Maezawa had purchased a flight to send Maezawa and several artists around the Moon. While the news caught the attention of many, the launch vehicle was still in the very early phases of development.

At SpaceX’s launch site in Boca Chica, there was not much more than a mound of dirt. And, the state of affairs were similar at a planned Starship factory at the Port of Los Angeles.

While the concept was exciting, the launch system was far from flight-ready.

Fast forward 12 months and the state of Starship development is radically different.

In Boca Chica, the mound of dirt has been transformed into an operational launch site – outfitted with the ground support equipment needed to support test flights of the methane-fueled Starship vehicles.

Additionally, at the nearby operations center, the first full-scale Starship vehicle is nearing completion and is expected to be the backdrop of the upcoming presentation.

And if that was not enough, a second Starship prototype is also nearing completion near Cape Canaveral, Florida. That vehicle will be launched from Pad 39A at Kennedy Space Center which is already undergoing renovations to prepare for the upcoming Starship flights.

As for the factory at the Port of Los Angeles, it was scrapped just weeks after Musk’s 2018 presentation. The cancellation was made after a radical change of plans which saw the Starship and Super Heavy designs pivot from carbon fiber to steel.

The switch was made to reduce the technical complexity of the project and removed the need for a factory with advanced machinery.

Consequently, SpaceX is now assembling the vehicles near their launch site, as transporting a nine-meter diameter rocket for thousands of miles is less than ideal.

The 150 meter hop was the final flight of Starhopper. It is now set to be converted into a vertical Raptor test stand – with the flight test campaign transitioning to a full-scale Starship prototype.

Named Starship Mk1, the new prototype is expected to perform flights to much greater altitudes – with a launch to around 20 kilometers expected in the coming weeks.

To do so, the vehicle will be far more advanced than the single-engine Starhopper. Not only will it be substantially taller, but Mk1 will also be outfitted with landing gear, control surfaces, and three Raptor engines.

SpaceX teams have been racing around the clock to prepare the Mk1 vehicle for the presentation on September 28th – with the goal of having the vehicle’s primary structure fully assembled in time for the event.

During the presentation, Musk is expected to outline the current state of the program, including the methane-powered Raptor engines, launch site developments, and changes to Starship’s design since the last presentation.

Like all previous years, this year’s update will once again feature a change in the aero surfaces of the vehicle – used to help the spacecraft navigate in the atmosphere before landing.

The plans for the launch pads have only materialized over the past few months, with many of the details found in environmental documents already outdated.

What is known is that modifications are well underway to prepare the Boca Chica and Kennedy Space Center-based pads for their respective Starship activities.

In Boca Chica, Texas, construction is ongoing to transition the launch pad from Starhopper to Starship flights.

Since Starship is substantially bigger than the Starhopper, the vehicle will require additional propellant. Thus, teams have been working to increase the propellant storage capacity at the launch site.

But, if you have anything resembling a 'conventional' space program, you've basically got to throw it all away.

#7  OKAY, LISTEN UP. i'M ONLY GOING TO POST THIS ONCE.

In response to 3dc's statement,

Most of those that have the capability to do this easily from a technical POV are utterly incapable from a political/managerial POV.:

McDonnell Douglas was doing it, when:

a) the SDI program they were working with was shut down. Bill Fucking "I Got My Dick Sucked In The Oral Office!" Clintoral USED THE LINE ITEM VETO ON IT, AS IF HE'D FOUND THE ONLY DAMN PIECE OF WASTE IN A THREE TRILLION DOLLAR FEDERAL BUDGET.

b) Their program was transferred to NASA, which managed to blow up their only test vehicle.

c) After the loss of their only test vehicle they shut down MacDac's program and started over with Lockheed, which a) had a design that wasn't an incrementally testable vehicle, and b) was implicitly lying about a lot of their supposed expertise with composite materials. Eventually they discovered they couldn't build the fuel tank they had continuously hinted that they had already built some of for Aurora, which was a major factor in that program being cancelled when the replacement for their delaminating multilobe tank made the vehicle not work for center of gravity reasons.

d) In the aftermath, McDonnell Douglas was shut down and the whole company, including the team that built DC-X, were transferred to over to management by Boeing, which hadn't come up with a design because their Official Corporate Position was that it was impossible.

The analogy I'd use to describe all this is the one I've seen elsewhere and used back in the day myself, and am going to use again now:

(I don't want to go on about the analogy, because I want to go to lunch, but look up about cats and vegan diets and Taurine.)

(And about losing test vehicles: Also note that SpaceX lost a lot of vehicles in the early years, but it didn't matter as much because they were mostly doing their experimenting after the staging process and they had an assembly line for their stages.)

Required reading: G. Harry Stine's _Halfway To Anywhere_ if you can find it, plus (I forget his current rank and status) Mitchell Burnside Clapp's paper on launch vehicle design and fuel selection. You can find an sscii-fied version of the latter (_after_ some discussion by Henry Spencer, who was posting to usenet after listening to a talk on the paper) here: https://yarchive.net/space/rocket/fuels/hydrogen_deltav.html.

And that's it for now, I'm off to lunch.

Hundreds of protesters marched and hollered poorly rhymed slogans against the government on Friday evening in several cities including Cairo, Alexandria and Damietta on the Mediterranean, Mansoura and Mahalla in the central Nile Delta, and Suez city.

The protests on Friday come after a string of recent videos posted by an Egyptian contractor, Mohammed Ali, who says he worked on various construction projecst with state instititutions and currently resides in Spain, made allegations of mismangement of funds under the tenure of President Abdel-Fattah El-Sisi.

Last week, President El-Sisi told the public that the videos were based on lies and fabrications, stressing that the allegations of corruption were aimed at destabilizing the trust of the people in their state institutions at a time when the government is working to overcome economic challenges and is fighting terrorism. President El-Sisi said that the state has spent EGP 4 trillion in the past several years on projects to develop the economy and benefit ordinary Egyptians.

Egyptian private TV channel CBC Extra News showed images of regular traffic flow in Tahrir Square in the early hours of Saturday morning.

Haniyeh orders Hamas leaders not to comment on anti-Sisi demos in Egypt

The place was acquired in the wake of the 1967 War and then presented to Paleostinian control in 2006 by Ariel Sharon, who had entered his dotage. It is currently ruled with an iron fist by Hamaswith about the living conditions you'd expect. It periodically attacks the Hated Zionist Entity whenever Iran needs a ruckus created or the hard boyz get bored, getting thumped by the IDF in return. -based terror group has recently seen its ties with Cairo improve, after strain going back to Morsi’s ouster by Sissi.

Hamas chief Ismail Haniyeh
...became Prime Minister of Gaza after the legislative elections of 2006 which Hamas won. President Mahmoud Abbas dismissed Haniyeh from office on 14 June 2007 at the height of the Fatah-Hamas festivities, but Haniyeh did not acknowledge the decree and continues as the PM of Gazoo while Abbas maintains a separate PM in the West Bank...
has ordered senior members of the Gaza-based terror group not to publicly comment on rare protests held in Egypt Friday against President Abdel Fattah el-Sissi.

Haniyeh sent an audio message to Hamas leaders telling them not to address "any matter connected to Egypt" whatsoever.

"Everyone must obey and promise this," he said in the message, according to Israel’s Ynet news site.

Hamas and Egypt have worked to repair ties in recent years following the 2013 coup that brought Sissi to power.

Hamas, which has historic links to Egypt’s Moslem Brüderbund, enjoyed warm relations with Egyptian president Mohammed Morsi, a top Brotherhood figure who was tossed by the military after a divisive

year in power.

The Egyptian government tightened an Israeli-Egyptian blockade on Hamas-ruled Gaza shortly thereafter, but since then there have been signs of a thaw in relations.

Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
, the longtime Egyptian ruler whose deposal led to Morsi coming to power in Egypt’s first and only democratic presidential election, has claimed Hamas sent hundreds of fighters across the Gaza border during the 2011 uprising.

Hamas has denied the claim.

For most of the past decade, Egypt has been a quiet partner with Israel in a blockade on Hamas-ruled Gaza, stifling the economy and largely blocking its 2 million people from moving in and out of the territory. Israel maintains the blockade to prevent Hamas, which is openly committed to destroying Israel, from importing weapons.

Egypt, however, has recently moved closer to Hamas and tried unsuccessfully to reconcile it with Fatah, the political party of Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas

that was violently ejected from the Gaza Strip by the Islamist terror group in 2007.

Cairo has also served as a key mediator between Israel and Hamas amid periodic outbursts of fighting between the two since the start of often violent protests along the Gaza border in March 2018.

Earlier this year, Egypt reportedly agreed to permanently reopen the Rafah border crossing with Gaza in exchange for Hamas reining in festivities with Israeli troops along the border.

Friday’s protests in the capital Cairo and other Egyptian cities marked a rare public rebuke of Sissi and saw crowds chanting slogans and holding up placards calling for him to step down.

At least 74 were arrested overnight, a security source told AFP, with plainclothed police patrolling sidestreets of downtown Cairo.

The country effectively banned protests under a 2013 law and a state of emergency is still in full effect.

Police fired tear gas and deployed forces in Tahrir Square ‐ the epicenter of the 2011 revolution that unseated long-time autocrat Hosni Mubarak.

The protests came on the back of an online call put out by Mohammed Aly, a disgruntled exiled Egyptian businessman, demanding Sissi be toppled.

Thousands shared footage on social media documenting the demonstrations that sprang up in several cities including sizeable crowds blocking traffic in Alexandria, al-Mahalla, Damietta, Mansoura and Suez.

Many users commented on the curious absence of military personnel and speculated about internal political squabbles between various Egyptian security agencies.

Under the rule of general-turned-president Sissi, authorities have launched a broad crackdown on dissidents, jailing thousands of Islamists as well as secular activists and popular bloggers.

At the same youth conference where he denied graft allegations, he also warned of the dangers of protesting ‐ a position he has repeatedly taken.

He has regularly invoked security and stability as hallmarks of his reign in contrast to the situations in regional hot spots such as Iraq, Libya and Syria.

But with his government imposing strict austerity measures since 2016 as part of a $12 billion loan package from the International Monetary Fund, discontent over rising prices has been swelling.

Nearly one in three Egyptians live below the poverty line on less than $1.40 a day, according to official figures released in July.

Human Rights Watch urged authorities on Saturday to "protect the right" to protest peacefully as well as demanding that those arrested be released.

#1  SIS better get his ass in gear. All this corruption and crap still permeates and the State is not getting richer. There are local demands he has not fulfilled and people want to see some action.

The timing is wrong for this right now but SISI cannot satisfy demands, He needs to find an out.

I like you man, but they need some domestic help.

Afghanistan
Taliban leaders admit they made a big mistake, says Trump
[KhaamaPress] President Donald Trump
...The man who was so stupid he beat fourteen professional politicians, a former tech CEO, and a brain surgeon for the Republican nomination in 2016, then beat The Smartest Woman in the World in the general election...
has said that the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
leaders have admitted they made a big mistake amid peace talks to end the conflict in Afghanistan.
And herewith the buried lede:
Responding to a question regarding his intention to bring peace to Afghanistan, President Trump said "Yeah, well, we were thinking about having a meeting. I didn’t like the idea that they couldn’t produce a ceasefire. I wasn’t in favor of that."

Trump further added " I said, "No. If they can’t produce a ceasefire, then why are we bothering?" And they thought that it was a sign of strength to kill 12 people, wound others ‐ badly wound some others."

He also added "We have hit ‐ in Afghanistan, we have hit the Taliban harder than they’ve ever been hit in the entire 19 years of war. They’ve been hit harder. It’s come back to me through absolutely impeccable sources that they are saying, "Wow. We made a mistake with this guy. We made a big..." They made a mistake."

He made the remarks before bilateral meeting with Prime Minister Morrison of Australia on Friday.

President Trump called off peace talks with Taliban group on 8th of September in reaction to a deadly attack in Kabul city which killed at least 12 people including an American service member.

He was due to meet with President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money...
and Taliban leaders at Camp David before the attack jeopardized the peace efforts.
Based on the above, it looks like peace efforts were totally destroyed because the scorpions of the Taliban will never refrain from stinging. Thank goodness President Trump is clever enough not only to recognize that, but to act.
Tolo News adds:
US President Donald Trump repeated his jarring statement about quickly ending the war in Afghanistan, using terms similar to those in a July statement that prompted the Afghan government to ask for clarification.

Addressing a news conference with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison on Friday, Trump said the United States could rapidly end the nearly 19-year war in Afghanistan but it would involve killing “tens of millions” of people.

“We’ve been very effective in Afghanistan, and if we wanted to do a certain method of war, we would win that very quickly, but many, many, really, tens of millions of people would be killed, and we think it’s unnecessary,” Trump said.

Similar comments were made by Trump in July during an Oval Office meeting with Pakistani Prime Minister Imran Khan. There, Trump claimed he could win the war “in a week” but said he did not want to go that route, because “I just don’t want to kill 10 million people.”

Trump earlier this month called off negotiations with the Taliban, and subsequently said the talks with the group are “dead.”

and senior Paleostinians officials are expected to meet in the coming days with representatives of the donor countries on the sidelines of the 74th session of the UN General Assembly to discuss the issue of UNRWA.

On Saturday, Abbas traveled to New York, where he is also scheduled to deliver a speech before the General Assembly and hold talks on the future of UNRWA.

The officials said that the discussions on UNRWA were designed to ensure that the agency’s mandate is renewed by the General Assembly. The agency’s mandate is renewed every three years.

Last year, the US administration cut its funding to UNRWA. The move came as US President Donald trump’s Middle East envoy, Jason Greenblatt, called for dismantling UNRWA and handing its duties to countries hosting Paleostinian refugees or to international organizations.

China-Japan-Koreas
US lifts tariffs on 400 Chinese products, Trump wants 'complete' trade deal
[AlAhram] US President Donald Trump
...The man who was so stupid he beat fourteen professional politicians, a former tech CEO, and a brain surgeon for the Republican nomination in 2016, then beat The Smartest Woman in the World in the general election...
said his administration was "making a lot of progress" with China on Friday, as deputy-level trade talks continued for a second day and Washington lifted tariffs on over 400 Chinese products.
Trump, speaking to news hounds at a White House meeting with Australian Prime Minister Scott Morrison, said the United States was taking in billions of dollars from tariffs imposed on Chinese products, adding that the total would soon reach $100 billion.

Talks were going well, though, he indicated. "I will say this: we're making a lot of progress with China," the Republican president said.

China agreeing to more agricultural purchases would not be enough, he said. "We're looking for a complete deal. I'm not looking for a partial deal," he said, adding that he did not need a deal to happen before the 2020 presidential election.

The Trump administration and China's Communist Party remain far apart on issues that are the basis of their trade dispute, including the US declaring some Chinese state companies national security risks, and Beijing's refusal to revamp its economic model by eliminating subsidies for state companies.

The United States Trade Representative's office issued three Federal Register notices exempting a wide range of products from tariffs in response to requests from US companies, which argued that the levies would cause economic hardship.

The 437 exempted products range from printed circuit boards for computer graphics processors to dog collars, laminated wood flooring and miniature Christmas lights.

Chinese and US negotiators are holding two days of talks that were expected to focus heavily on agriculture, and lay the groundwork for high-level talks in early October that would determine whether the two countries are working toward a solution or headed for new and higher tariffs on each other's goods.

A delegation of about 30 Chinese officials, led by Vice Finance Minister Liao Min, met counterparts at the US Trade Representative's (USTR) office near the White House. Deputy USTR Jeffrey Gerrish led the US delegation.

The United States is asking that China substantially increase purchases of American soybeans and other farm commodities, a person with knowledge of the planned discussions told Rooters.

Chinese delegates will visit American farm regions with US officials next week, in a gesture of goodwill.

Trade experts, executives and government officials in both countries say that even if the September and October talks produce an interim deal, the US-China trade war has hardened into a political and ideological battle that runs far deeper than tariffs and could take years to resolve.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Syria says it captured explosives-laden drone near Golan border, “Wudn’t us,” sez Israel
[IsraelTimes] State news agency also reports Syrian forces found Israeli-made vehicles and materiel in village near Quneitra.

Syria’s state news agency said authorities have captured and dismantled a drone rigged with cluster bombs near the border with the Israeli Golan Heights.

SANA gave no further details about the drone Saturday, but posted several photos.

The news agency also reported that Syrian forces found Israeli-made vehicles and materiel in Bariqa, a village near the deserted border city of Quneitra.

’s forces.

The incident came two days after another drone was destroyed over the Damascus suburb of Aqraba.

No one grabbed credit for the drones.

Aqrabah was the site of an Israeli airstrike last month that targeted Iranian-aligned operatives planning to send attack drones into Israel, according to the Israel Defense Forces.

In neighboring Leb, a government investigation concluded Thursday that two alleged Israeli drones were on an attack mission when they crashed in the capital last month, one of them armed with 4.5 kilograms (10 pounds) of explosives.

The type of UAV used in the Beirut attack has raised considerable questions about the drones’ provenance, with analysts suggesting they could be Iranian.

Hours before the incident, Israel said it had thwarted an Iranian plot in Syria to launch drones with explosives into Israel.

Israeli media have reported that the drones in Beirut targeted an office housing a "planetary mixer," a large industrial machine that is critical to making precision-guided missiles. Hezbollah denies it produces such weapons in Leb.

Israel has said it would not allow the group to have precision-guided missiles, as that would be a game-changing technology.

IDF's spokesperson: 'Drone downed in Syria is not Israeli'

[Ynet] IDF's Spokesperson in Arabic Avichay Adraee responded Saturday to a report claiming Syria have captured and dismantled a drone rigged with cluster bombs near the border with the Israeli Golan Heights.

Adraee also suggests in a Facebook that the drone was launched by Iranian extraterritorial operations unit al-Quds force, which according to him, operates on the Syrian side of Mount Hermon, where the Syrians claimed the drone was downed.

"It is definitely not an IDF drone, is it another Iranian explosive that is operating in an uncoordinated manner in the Syrian Golan?" Wrote Adraee. "This is another proof to show the nature of Iranian activity in the area".

PKK claims deadly minibus attack on ‘spies’ in southeast Turkey
[Rudaw] The Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) said Friday that their fighters were responsible for the September 12 explosion in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's satrapy in Asia Minor...
’s predominantly Kurdish Diyarbakir province.

The attack in the Kulp District left seven people dead and ten injured, which Turkey said were civilians. The Kurdish hard boy group, however, said the bombing targeted "spies" trying to track their positions in a statement put out by its armed wing the Peoples’ Defense Forces (HPG).

"They came to the guerrilla areas for this purpose ... [but we] carried out a sabotage operation," said the HPG, according to the PKK-affiliated ANF news outlet.

The PKK is a hard boy group that fights the Ottoman Turkish state for greater political and cultural rights for Turkey’s Kurds. Ankara considers the PKK a terrorist organization.

On the attack, the HPG said that a group of Ottoman Turkish "spies" disguised themselves as civilians on September 12 and visited the Kulp-Mus road to track down their positions, but were "sabotaged." Ottoman Turkish officials, however, said that the victims of the attack were "civilians" collecting wood .

The HPG and Turkey both released the same number of casualties.

"As a result of the operation, seven contras were killed and 10 other injured," said the HPG.

The PKK uses the word "contra" to refer to anyone who is against them. The term was used between 1979-1990s to refer to US-backed right-wing rebels in Nicaragua fighting against leftist groups.

The roadside explosion was immediately blamed on the PKK by Ottoman Turkish officials, including President His Enormity, Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
...Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey. In Anatolia did Recep Bey a stately Presidential Palace decree, that has 1100 rooms. That's 968 more than in the White House, 400 more than in Versailles, and 325 more than Buckingham Palace, so you know who's really more important...
at the time.

The PKK reiterated in Friday’s statement that they do not target civilians and unarmed pro-Ottoman Turkish village guards, blaming the affiliated media outlets of the ruling Justice and Development Party (AKP) and its ally the Nationalist Movement Party (MHP) for "propagating" that the casualties were civilians.

In the framework of investigations into the incident, Ottoman Turkish security forces arrested officials from the pro-Kurdish Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP) in Kulp. They also removed the HDP’s mayor of the district, Mehmet Fatih Tas.

Ottoman Turkish government officials have frequently claimed that the HDP is the political wing of the PKK, but the party denies this.

Dozens arrested in Paris 'yellow vest' protests
Give it a rest, guys — nobody cares anymore.
[AlAhram] Dozens of demonstrators were arrested at yellow vest protests in Gay Paree on Saturday as more than 7,000 police were deployed to quell any violence by the movement and its radical, anarchist "black blocs".

There were also fears that the demonstrators could try to infiltrate a march against climate change in the French capital.

The yellow vest movement erupted 10 months ago and blindsided President Emmanuel Macron, whom protesters accused of being out of touch with the needs of ordinary French people.

Their weekly demonstrations prompted Macron to loosen the state's purse strings to the tune of nearly 17 billion euros ($18.8 billion) in wage boosts and tax cuts for low earners, but tapered off over the summer.

However,
death is not the end. There remains the litigation over the estate...
it remains to be seen whether the movement will regain the momentum of the winter and early spring, when the protests often descended into violent festivities with security forces, especially in Gay Paree.

Several hundred protesters were in the streets of the French capital around 11am (0900 GMT) on Saturday.

By then police had arrested 39 of them, police headquarters said, adding that some protesters had been found to carry hammers or petrol canisters.

Macron on Friday called for "calm", saying that while "it's good that people express themselves", they should not disrupt a climate protest and cultural events also due to go ahead on Saturday.

The number of police deployed for Saturday's rallies are on a par with the peak of the yellow vest protests in December and March.

BLACK BLOCS
Key yellow-vest figure Jerome Rodrigues has billed Saturday's protest as "a revelatory demonstration", claiming "many people are going to come to Gay Paree".

But officials have again outlawed protests on the Champs-Elysees and other areas in the heart of the capital, where previously protesters had ransacked and set fire to luxury shops and restaurants.

Some demonstrators in January even used a forklift truck to break down the doors of a government ministry.

The police have also been criticised for being heavy-handed in festivities with hardcore anti-capitalist "black bloc" groups blamed for much of the violence that has accompanied the demonstrations.

Saturday coincides with the annual Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
an Heritage Days weekend, when public and private buildings normally off-limits to the public are open to visitors.

After attracting 282,000 people nationwide on the first day of protests last November, yellow-vest protest participation had fallen sharply by the spring, and only sporadic protests were seen over the summer.

Macron said in an interview with Time magazine published Thursday that the movement had been "very good for me" as it had made him listen and communicate better.

"My challenge is to listen to people much better than I did at the very beginning," the president said.

Jihad, History Link Taliban to al-Qaida in Afghanistan
[AnNahar] The Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
promised Washington during months of negotiations that the United States would never again be attacked from Afghan soil. Such a pledge would have included al-Qaeda, which planned the 9/11 attacks from inside Afghanistan.

Yet jihad, or holy war, and a shared history continue to bind the two krazed killer groups, and there's no evidence of a break in relations between the long-time allies. U.S. Secretary of State Mike Pompeo had said the Taliban agreed to cut ties with al-Qaeda as part of peace negotiations, which President Donald Trump

#1  And there was that piece a week or so back that said they're almost finished. They'll never be finished as long as Pakistain remains.

The only way to do this is to break up Pak into four regions. India takes back Baltistan. Balochistan goes free. Pak will be reduced to what is now Pakistani Punjab and parts of Sindh - since most military bureaucracy and leaders have property and investments there. That too will be embroiled in bitter, bloody internecine war forever.

Of course, we would have to put our money where our mouth is. Maybe Trump should hold India to those lovely promises of fighting terror together. And we'd have to know the F-35s won't be late.

A California Court Dealt a Blow to Religious Liberty
[NATIONALREVIEW] Yesterday, the Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, Court of Appeals issued a truly remarkable opinion in a truly remarkable case. It held that a Catholic hospital could indeed face legal liability for failing to perform a hysterectomy as part of a female-to-male "transition" ‐ even though its policy broadly bans sterilization surgery generally (not just for trans individuals) and even though the hospital referred the patient to a non-Catholic facility in the same network. The patient obtained the hysterectomy a mere three days after the original scheduled surgery date and sued anyway.

The facts of the case are simple. The plaintiff, Evan Minton, initially scheduled a hysterectomy for August 30, 2016, at Mercy San Juan Medical Center (part of the Dignity Health hospital network) as a treatment for gender dysphoria. Mercy is a Catholic hospital, and the day before the scheduled surgery, Mercy canceled the procedure. It cited the United States Conference of Catholic Bishops’ "Ethical and Religious Directives for Catholic Health Care Services." As the court noted, "The Directives prohibit direct sterilization and require that bodily and functional integrity be protected and preserved."

In other words, a Catholic hospital was upholding basic Catholic religious doctrine.

Mercy’s president then recommended that Minton’s doctor obtain emergency admitting privileges at nearby Methodist Hospital, which is also a Dignity Health facility. The doctor obtained privileges and performed the surgery on September 2, 2016. Minton then sued Dignity Health, claiming that he was the victim of gender identity discrimination.

The trial court dismissed his complaint, but yesterday the California Court of Appeals revived his claims. It held that Dignity Health could protect the religious liberty of its Catholic institutions only if "it can provide all persons with full and equal medical care at comparable facilities not subject to the same religious restrictions."

Call to destroy Israel at Islamist conference in Ankara
[Jpost] Ankara hosted a pro-Paleostinian conference last week that featured radical Islamists who urged the obliteration of the Jewish state and advocated the Boycott, Divestment, Sanctions campaign targeting Israel.

"Israel must be dissolved and destroyed," said one speaker, according to a report in the German daily Die Welt.

Speakers also urged boycotts, divestments and sanctions (BDS) against Israel at the event titled "Congress on the Future of Islamic World and Paleostine."

Kadir Arakas, the chairman of a Ottoman Turkish-Shi’ite association, said "resistance in Paleostine is important" during the "weakest period of Israel’s history." Arakas urged that no Islamic country reach agreements with Israel or work toward closer relations with the Jewish state.

He did not define "resistance" but the meaning of the word for Iran’s mullah regime and its chief proxy, the Shi’ite movement Hezbollah, is violence against Israel. "If we want the liberation of al-Aqsa Mosque [in Jerusalem], we have to help the mujahedeen," said Arakas.

The Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran’s Ayatollah Mohsen Araki also spoke at the event. At a conference of Islamic holy mans in Beirut in 2015, Araki supposedly said that "annihilation of the Zionist regime is a sure thing and Koranic pledge." The pro-Iranian Taghrib News Agency reported on Araki’s genocidal antisemitic remarks. Araki served as the personal representative for Iran’s Supreme Leader Ali Khamenei
...the actual dictator of Iran, successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini...
in London.

Araki is the secretary-general of the World Forum for Proximity of Islamic Schools of Thought. The Iranian regime’s state-controlled news agency AhlulBayt News Agency (ABNA) reported that the conference was "organized by the Saadat Islamic Unity Research Center in The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...just another cheapjack Moslem dictatorship, brought to you by the Moslem Brüderbund...
" and "brought together more than seventy foreign guests from 20 countries."

ABNA, based in the holy city of Qom, focuses its coverage on Shi’ite communities across the globe.

According to ABNA, the conference held the following panels: al-Quds is the Most Important and Fundamental Issue of the Islamic World; Islamic Unity: The Moslems’ Only Way for the Future; The Impact of the Paleostinian Issue on the Islamic World and the Responsibilities of the Islamic Ummah; World Status and Issues of Islam, Problems and Solutions; and Concerning the Greater Middle East Plan ‐ Deal of the Century Agreement, Its Goals and Supporters; and Conditions for Implementation of the Islamic Unity Plan.

ABNA wrote that Araki told the The Islamic Theocratic Republic News Agency that the congress is "very effective in the present time and said that at this juncture when the enemy is trying to marginalize the Paleostinian issue, this conference can once again raise the Paleostinian issue to the public opinion and the Moslems."

Hasan Bitmez, the vice president of the Ottoman Turkish Islamist Felicity Party, said with respect to Israel at the conference that "No agreement is valid with these tyrants who occupy this blessed land."

Die Welt reported that Abdelmalik Hibaoui, a German professor for practical theology at the University of Tubingen, participated in the anti-Israel conference.

Abdelmalik Hibaoui is also a member of the Central Council of Moslems in Germany, and teaches and trains Islamic holy mans there.

Die Welt wrote that Hibaoui distanced himself from the conference in response to a press query from the German newspaper.

Afghanistan
Afghan Officials Cause Stir at Torkham Crossing Ceremony
[ToloNews] Torkham is on the Durand Line, which Pakistain claims as its border and Afghanistan does not.

The opening ceremony of the 24-hour crossing at Torkham was held on Wednesday, with Prime Minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who ain't the sharpest bulb on the national tree...
and a number of Afghan government officials, including Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
governor Shah Mahmoud Miakhail and acting Minister of Public Works Yama Yari, in attendance.

The presence of Afghan officials at the 24-hour Torkham Crossing ceremony has caused a controversy, because Torkham is on the Durand Line, which Pakistain claims as its border and Afghanistan does not.

Former national security chief and presidential candidate Rahmatullah Nabil says he has information that President Ghani has recognized the Durand Line as a border between Afghanistan and Pakistain for his own personal interests.

Nabil says that based on his information Pakistain has been pulling the fence inside Afghanistan up to 20 km and has distributed Pak ID cards in those areas.
Oh? Fascinating.
"Such deals are always about gaining power. History has proven this. I think that's the president’s reason," Nabil said.

""If the president really stands against Pakistain’s interference, then the President at least must issue a statement in this regard," Nabil added.

In Pak history, this is the first time Torkham has been mentioned as a border between the two countries in the presence of Afghan government officials.

This action has provoked a heated reaction from former President Hamid Maybe I'll join the Taliban Karzai
...A product, and probably the sole product, of the Southern Alliance...
"This means that Afghanistan is not free," Karzai said.

The presence of Afghan government officials at the ceremony has caused reactions from political analysts as well.

"The opening of the crossing ahead of the presidential election, and asking for Imran Khan's cooperation, means that the president wants to regain power with the cooperation of Pakistain," said Faiz Mohammad Zaland, a political analyst.

The Afghan government, however, says that only the Afghan people can decide on the Durand Line.

The Durand Line is a disputed area between Afghanistan and Pakistain, and no government official has so far decided on it.

Greek police arrest suspect in aircraft hijacking
How lovely it is that so many of the Middle East’s evil ones are bringing themselves in to be arrested.
[Jpost] Greek police have arrested a 65-year-old man suspected of an aircraft hijacking and kidnapping, crimes committed in 1985 and 1987, they said on Saturday.

Greek media said the man was thought to be involved in the 1985 hijacking of a Trans World Airlines (TWA) flight in which an American passenger was killed.

A Greek police official said the Lebanese suspect had disembarked from a cruise ship on the island of Mykonos on Sept. 19.

The source said that his name came up as being wanted by German authorities.

The 1987 crime was possibly related to his release in return for the freeing of two German citizens held hostage by his accomplices in Leb, the source said.

The suspect was being held in a high-security prison until German authorities identify him as the person wanted, the source added.

The TWA 847 flight from Cairo to San Diego with several en route stops was hijacked shortly after taking off from Athens in 1985. The hijackers demanded the release of Shi'ite Moslem prisoners from Israeli custody.

The passengers and crew endured a three-day intercontinental ordeal. Some passengers were beaten and a U.S. Navy diver who was on board the aircraft was killed. Dozens of passengers were held hostage over the following two weeks.
The Daily Mail has an image of the FBI Most Wanted poster for the gentleman in question, with photo, wherein he is named alternately as Mohammed Ali Hamadei, Ali Hamadi, and “Castro”, who appears to have been connected to the Shiite Amal militia, now a Lebanese political party connected to Hezbollah and still headed by Nabih Berri, speaker of Lebanon’s parliament since 1992 :
Greek media said the man had been arrested in Germany two years after the hijacking but was later exchanged with two Germans who were abducted in Beirut. He has remained a fugitive ever since.
The Times of Israel spells his name Mohammed Ali Hammadi, and has more background about the hijacking, adding:
Hammadi, along with fellow hijacker Hasan Izz-Al-Din and Ali Atwa, remains on the FBI’s list of most wanted terrorists under the name Mohammed Ali Hamadei. The FBI offered a reward of up to $5 million for information leading to his capture.

Three Iranians sailors are still being held, Mousavi said.

"We are happy to announce we have obtained the release of one of the last hostages of Somali piracy ... 3 more seafarers remain who need our help," Hostage Support Partnership tweeted.

Earlier, Iranian media reports said Panahandeh was among 21 crew members of a boat hijacked in March 2015. Eight of the hostages died, five escaped, and four were freed in a security operation by Iran

Trudeau Claims He Was Known As 'Corn Pop' Until A Cool White Dude Turned His Life Around
[Babylon Bee - Satire, H'erb] THE GREAT WHITE NORTH‐A new development may provide some context in the controversy over recently surfaced photos showing Canada's prime minister in brown skin, according to sources close to Justin Trudeau. While the progressive prime minister "deeply regrets" many of the choices he made during the time those photos were taken, some new details may help critics come to an understanding.

According to childhood friend "Smokey," Trudeau used to be known as "Corn Pop," and was a "bad dude" who ran around with "a bunch of bad boys."

One day, Corn Pop and Smokey were hanging at the community pool/hockey rink when a white lifeguard named Joey B scolded Corn Pop for not following the rules. The incident escalated to the point where Corn Pop and the gang waited outside by Joey's moose with razors, ready to "cut that cracker down." Joey B came out with a sharpened icicle, ready for action, but instead of an altercation, something happened: Joey apologized for making a derogatory comment about Corn Pop's ethnic hair.

Smokey recalls how this moment transformed Corn Pop's life, teaching him the power of friendship and forgiveness. From that day forward, Corn Pop was determined to become prime minister of the most powerful country ever to be adjacent to the greatest country on earth.

Iran denies successful cyber attack on oil sector
[IsraelTimes] Organization that tracks internet outages says activity detected consistent with a cyber attack, though the cause is unclear and impact limited.

Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
denied on Saturday its oil infrastructure had been successfully attacked by a cyber operation, after reports of disruptions to the sector online.

"Contrary to Western media claims, investigations done today show no successful cyber attack was made on the country’s oil installations and other crucial infrastructure," the government’s cyber security office said.

The statement did not specify which reports it was addressing.

NetBlocks, an organization that tracks internet outages, tweeted early Saturday that "network data show intermittent disruptions to internet connectivity in #Iran."

But it said the cause was unclear and impact limited, affecting "online industrial and government platforms" and specific providers.

"Data are consistent with a cyber attack or unplanned technical incident on affected networks as opposed to a purposeful withdrawal or shutdown incident," it added.

Iran’s Telecommunications Minister Mohammad Javad Azari Jahromi has acknowledged in the past that Tehran has "been facing cyber terrorism ‐ such as Stuxnet."

The Stuxnet virus, discovered in 2010, is believed to have been engineered by Israel and the US to damage nuclear facilities in Iran.

Iran at the time accused the US and Israel of using the virus to target its centrifuges used for uranium enrichment.

Malta takes some migrants from Ocean Viking, but leaves others onboard
[AlAhram] A group of 265 migrants colonists were brought to Malta on Saturday, including 36 from the rescue ship Ocean Viking, but the operators of the ship complained that more than 180 other migrants colonists on board had been refused disembarkation by the island.

The Maltese armed forces said 229 migrants colonists among Saturday's arrivals were rescued from three boats in distress in Malta's search and rescue zone.

Another 36 were transferred to a Maltese patrol boat from the Ocean Viking, which had rescued them in Malta's zone.

The arrivals were the fourth group to arrive on the Mediterranean island in a week.

But Medecins Sans Frontieres (MSF), which operates Ocean Viking, said in a tweet that 182 survivors from other rescues, including a newborn, children and a pregnant woman, remained stranded on board.

This, it said, "demonstrates the discriminatory, arbitrary and inhumane nature of a system which continues to prioritise political gameplay above human lives and dignity".

Malta argued that those people were picked up outside its rescue zone.

The island took more than 300 migrants colonists from the Ocean Viking in August on condition that they would be shared among other EU countries, but most are still on the island, stretching its limited reception facilities.

The plight of the Ocean Viking, run by MSF and another French charity, SOS Méditerranée, has exposed Europe
...the land mass occupying the space between the English Channel and the Urals, also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
's failure to come up with a coherent policy to deal with migration from Africa through Libya.

EU states have been at loggerheads over how to handle refugees and migrants colonists reaching its shores since a 2015 spike in Mediterranean arrivals of people fleeing conflicts and poverty in the Middle East and Africa.

On Monday Malta will host an EU home affairs ministers meeting which will discuss migration and how EU states may share arrivals.

Saudi Arabia Closes Down New Chick-Fil-A Location For Disappointing Lack Of Homophobia
[Babylon Bee] RIYADH‐Chick-fil-A executives were delighted when Riyadh development authorities invited the restaurant to open a new location in the city. They love serving delicious chicken sandwiches and spreading Chick-fil-A cheer wherever they're invited, even if they disagree with the worldviews, religions, and lifestyles of certain areas.

Unknown to them, however, Saudi Arabia only asked Chick-fil-A to come because they thought they were supposed to be homophobic, anti-LGBT, spreading hate and fear of gay people wherever they went.

"When we heard how homophobic Chick-fil-A was, we thought it was a perfect fit," said King Salman. "But they ran their restaurant for a solid three months here and never once did they stone a gay person, throw a gay person off a roof, or even use anti-LGBT slurs against them."

"In fact, all they would ever say was 'My pleasure!'" he said, clearly exasperated. "It was infuriating."

Iraq detains suspect in deadly bombing that killed 12
[AlArabiya] Iraqi security forces boosted their presence and measures around the Shiite city of Karbala on Saturday, a day after a deadly bombing hit a minibus packed with passengers outside the city.

Iraq’s prime minister said security forces have detained a man suspected of detonating the bomb.

The blast was one of the biggest attacks targeting civilians since ISIS
...embracing their inner Islamic Brute...
, a terrorist organization was declared defeated inside Iraq in 2017.

The charred minibus was still on the road near the city on Saturday morning, hours after the blast killed 12 people and maimed five others.

On Saturday, security was tight on the roads entering Karbala with added checkpoints searching cars.

The explosion occurred as the bus was passing through an Iraqi army checkpoint, about 10 kilometers (6 miles) south of Karbala in the direction of the town of al-Hilla.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack, which took place during a holy period marked by Shiites in Iraq between two important religious events, Ashura and Arbaeen. Arbaeen is the annual commemoration marking the end of the 40-day mourning period for the martyrdom of Imam Hussein, the Prophet Muhammad’s grandson, a central figure in Shiite Islam.

The engineering brilliance behind the C8 Corvette's LT2 V-8
[Hargerty] Given the C8 Corvette’s role as the pride of GM, this sports car is both a revolution in American architecture and exterior design and a prime opportunity for engine lab gurus to shine. Squeezing 495 horsepower from 6.2 liters‐that’s 1.3 hp per cubic inch‐without benefit of overhead camshafts, multi-valve combustion chambers, or boosting is a worthy accomplishment. Here’s how the clever GM engineers did it.

They began by keeping the best parts of the small-block V-8 Chevy launched for the 1955 model year: A 4.4-inch spacing between cylinder bores and one block-mounted camshaft activating a mere 16 valves serving eight cylinders. They also retained key refinements developed over six decades that improved this engine’s ease of making horsepower for the least weight, space, and cost: aluminum block and head construction; a deep-skirt cylinder block with cross-bolted main bearings and cast-iron bore liners; state-of-the-art electronic controls to meter the fuel and cleanse the exhaust; free-flowing cylinder heads with direct injection developed for the 2014 C7 Corvette’s LT1 engine; and squirters aiming a jet of oil at the underside of each piston to lower their operating temperatures.

#1  I had an uncle in the late 80’s who was a machinist at a research center. His team was given a new Corvette engine and basically told to run it continuously at a high RPM until it burned up. Then tear it down and recommend improvements on parts. If I recall he said the heat started in the exhaust area and worked back into the engine before locking up.

Thanks for posting the article.

#2  1963 Split window. My favorite car of all time. Quite a feat as I love cars. The pic is even in Tuxedo Black. If we ever win the lottery, this is the 1st purchase. The only resto-mod change I'd do is to swap out drum brakes for disks. Thanks B :)

#3  So, instead of adopting modern design concepts they instead used a bunch of engineering kludges that add complexity and potential failure points. Sounds like the GM I know.

#4  If you want heartless efficiency go watch F1 racing.

Owning a Corvette is more than that. It's about knowing what's in the engine, and that its tradition harks back to the pride of American manufacturing. When you buy a Corvette you're not just buying a bucket of car parts. You're buying heritage.

GM has plenty of modern cars. Go buy one of them. Or better yet, a European car because we have low tariffs on theirs while they put high tariffs on ours.
