EU to give internet firms 1 hour to remove extremist content
[ABCnews] European authorities are planning to slap internet companies like Google, Twitter and Facebook with big fines if they don't take down extremist content within one hour.

European Commission President Jean-Claude Juncker said in a speech Wednesday that the Commission is proposing the new rules as part of efforts to step up the bloc's security.

He said that removing material within an hour is important because it's "the critical window in which the greatest damage is done."
That's it! %2000 Tariffs on all EU products!

Europe just voted to wreck the internet, spying on everything and censoring vast swathes of our communications
Why should the US defend an imperialist peoples trying to make a paying colony out of the world's internet that bows to the EU? Pull out of NATO NOW!
[BoingBoing] Lobbyists for "creators" threw their lot in with the giant entertainment companies and the newspaper proprietors and managed to pass the new EU Copyright Directive by a hair's-breadth this morning, in an act of colossal malpractice to harm to working artists will only be exceeded by the harm to everyone who uses the internet for everything else.

Here's what the EU voted in favour of this morning:

* Upload filters: Everything you post, from short text snippets to stills, audio, video, code, etc will be surveilled by copyright bots run by the big platforms. They'll compare your posts to databases of "copyrighted works" that will be compiled by allowing anyone to claim copyright on anything, uploading thousands of works at a time. Anything that appears to match the "copyright database" is blocked on sight, and you have to beg the platform's human moderators to review your case to get your work reinstated.

#4  Golden Age Science Fiction Lord Kalvan of Otherwhen by H. Beam Piper has my vote. As a bonus most of H. Beam Piper's works can be downloaded for free (the magic word) from Gutenberg.org.
A humorous note: H. Beam Piper had a long running feud with Analog's editor John W. Campbell over the story that made the first half of the book. The original story had a space freighter captain discovering the planet Freya ('whose natives are so identical to humans' that they can interbreed! And were blonds, of course *cough*). John W. Campbell put his foot down "no independent evolution allowing pregnant alien girls!" so H. Beam Piper re-wrote the story to fit into his ongoing Paratime series...

#10  #5 Freyans are descendants of Martians just like we are according to H. Beam Piper. --g(r)omgoru
According to John F. Carr, the editor of the posthumous H. Beam Piper collection Federation(1981) he discovered an unpublished manuscript in the Piper estate that he decided to include: "When In The Course___". John F. Carr contends that "...John W. Campbell--who had fits over the concept of parallel evolution,..." suggested to Piper that if he rewrote it as a Paratime story that it would sell--which it did. The story is a mirror image of the published "Gunpowder God" with the same character names... Rylla, Tarr-Hostigos, etc.
I mention this as more of an insight in the odd incident in the journey from author's typewriter to published word.

Austrian invents flatulence filters - With 'Bodykat' bloating and odours are gone.
[MAIL] An inventor has created a disposable product to eliminate the sometimes embarrassing smells and sounds that can happen when a person breaks wind.
Ja, ja, iss was du willst !
Leopold Trimmel from Hofstetten-Gruenau, Austria, has designed a pressure relief filter, called 'oxxxo Bodykat', which helps gas be released in a controlled way.

The product is said to catch the gas, stopping any unappealing odours from escaping, and also help to alleviate pain as the user will be able to avoid a build up of wind which could lead to bloating.

According to the website, 'oxxxo Bodykat' is meant for people with food intolerance, irritable bowel syndrome, damaged gut flora or incontinence.

Karin McQuillen: Why Black Voters Are Turning to Trump
[AG] The growing positive attitude of black voters towards President Trump is the wildcard in the coming midterm elections. It is real and it is expanding. Polls are showing anywhere from 20 percent to 36 percent of blacks approve of President Trump. The Democrats even may have lost 11 percent of black women.

The cracks in the black Democrat bloc voting are one of the most consequential results of Barack Obama’s presidency and the phenomenal effectiveness of President Trump’s pro-business policies. This could be a historic turning point.

MEASURABLE PROGRESS
Trump’s economic policies have improved the lives of black Americans, just as he promised they would during the election. Unlike Obama’s media hype, Trump’s progress is as real and as solid as his buildings. Black unemployment continues to fall. Good manufacturing jobs are coming back. Paychecks are rising, too.

The roots of this political watershed in the black community are more complex than job figures and will last beyond Trump’s tenure. I have been listening for hours to ordinary black Americans on the #Walkaway movement’s YouTube channel. This is a movement of former Democrats explaining why they are leaving their party. While each face, voice, and story is unique and fascinating, there are some striking recurring themes.

Ironically, the change seems to have started with President Obama’s election.

President Obama raised the hopes of black Americans to the highest they’ve been since Martin Luther King. The entire country expected he would devote himself to getting blacks better schools, more jobs, higher wages, and safer neighborhoods. Instead, Obama ignored those bread-and-butter needs. His signature initiative was to send Eric Holder to stoke up publicity and fear in the wake of the Trayvon Martin and Michael Brown shootings.

In the short term, hyping fake white racism and police brutality worked to stanch the bleeding in black turnout in the 2012 election. In the long term, however, Obama’s reliance on racial fear and grievance increased black suffering. He broke people’s hearts and blew up many black voters’ loyalty to the Democrats.

NFL Owner Blasts President Trump On His National Anthem Stance
[Date Line Hollywood] Carolina Panthers owner and hedge fund mogul David Tepper has slammed President Trump regarding his national anthem protests stance.

Speaking to CNBC, Tepper ‐ who bought the Panthers for $2.2 billion in May ‐ said the attacks on players who protest during the national anthem is "the biggest pile of bull-dinky ever."

Although Tepper didn’t specifically name President Trump, it was clear whom he was talking about, referring to "Howdy-Doody" and "the red-headed guy in DC" during the interview.

Tepper called NFL player the "most patriotic people" in the country, noting their substantial charitable contributions. He recited the Pledge of Allegiance, putting emphasis on the words "and justice for all."

President Trump has been an outspoken opponent of players kneeling, raising a fit, sitting or otherwise protesting during the playing of the national anthem. On Sunday, Trump tweeted, "If the players stood proudly for our Flag and Anthem, and it is all shown on broadcast, maybe ratings could come back? Otherwise worse!"

Tepper has been an outspoken opponent of the President on other issues as well, so his remarks were not out of step with his past observations, although it broke ranks with other NFL owners, who have largely tried to avoid the President on the issue.

Michelle Obama Re-Emerges, Announces Major Plans Ahead of 2020 Election
h/t Instapundit
[Lifezette] Michelle Obama announced a 10-city speaking tour to dovetail with the release of her upcoming memoir, "Becoming," in an Instagram post on Wednesday.

The post, hashtagged "#IAmBecoming," has since been viewed nearly 2 million times on Instagram.

The accompanying video, also released on Twitter, boasts over a million views in less than a day.

"It’s the story of my humdrum plainness, my tiny victories, my lasting bruises, my ordinary hopes and worries. It’s the story of who I am, truly, and I’m proud of it ‐ blemishes and all," said Obama in the post describing the book.

She also invited fans to get tickets for the tour.
Well, given the surprising success of (totally brainless bints) Alexandria & Julia, I wouldn't be surprised if she tries.

Rage, Rage, Against the Dying of the Dream
h/t Instapundit
[AmGreatness] Homer’s Muse sings of the rage of Achilles, brought forth from his tent by the death of his friend Patroclus to engage the Trojan hero, Hector, in mortal combat. But Achilles’ anger solves nothing; although he kills Hector, he then desecrates the body by dragging it around the walls of Troy, thus violating the laws of warfare and sealing his own fate. His determination to avenge his friend thus becomes "the accursed rage that brought great suffering to the Achaeans." In the end, it’s not the rage of Achilles that wins the war for the Greeks, but the trickery of Odysseus that finagles the wooden horse inside the impregnable gates of Ilium.

We are witnessing a similar self-destructive rage today: the rage of the American Left against the Trump Administration in general and the president in particular, an explosion of frustrated, impotent (but still dangerous) anger that has given up all pretense of genuine protest‐against the results of a duly constituted American election, let us remember‐and has devolved instead into a toddler’s extended tantrum. It bears the hallmarks of one of the most unseemly displays in American political history.
I guess electing and reelecting somebody totally devoid of any ability like Obama, did make them think that USA is their bitch

Europe
Spengler: Chutzpah in Strasbourg
[PJMedia] Chutzpah, an Aramaic word for unbridled effrontery, came to America via Yiddish. It's the man who enters a revolving door after you and comes out first. It's the fellow who murdered his parents and asks for clemency because he's an orphan. And now it's the backers of an unelected supranational European government casting a vote of censure against Hungary.

...The unelected European Commission, with members appointed by governments that represent a minority of their voters, ordered Hungary to accept its quota of so-called refugees, and Hungary refused. Last year it ordered Poland to rescind a judicial reform that gives the elected legislature a modicum of authority over appointed judges, many of whom retain lifetime appointments from the Communist era. Poland and Hungary refused the imperial decree from the bureaucrats of Brussels, and for this, both countries faced the censure of the European Parliament.

The European Parliament vote also sends a message to President Trump, who has made clear his disapproval of Europe's migration policy, as well as its failure to fund its own defense. By contrast, the Trump administration has a friend in Orban, as the New York Times complained last month. It also reflects European animosity toward Israel, which has an ally in the Orban government. Above all, the vote expresses the rancor of an unpopular European elite whose hold on power is tenuous, and for whom Mr. Orban's success appears as a portent of doom.

I still can't help but think of the independence movement in Catalonia. Brussels was silent (conversely, supporting the national government in Madrid). I can only imagine the "out-cry" out of Bruxelles if a similar thing happened in Putin's Russia.

Somali Muslim Cop Who Shot Woman Was Hired AFTER Being Found ‘Unable to Handle Stress' of Job
h/t Instapundit
[PJMedia] Identity politics kills. If there is any lesson to be drawn from the killing of Justine Ruszczyk Damond, that is it. The city of Minneapolis was so eager to have a Somali Muslim police officer on the force that it hired a man who had been found incompetent to hold the job. Further, it did not fire him even when he proved that he was indeed unfit to be a cop.

Fox News has reported that "the former Minneapolis police officer charged in the shooting death of Justine Ruszczyk Damond once put a gun to a driver’s head during a traffic stop and sometimes ignored calls, according to court filings indicating that psychiatrists and training officers voiced concerns about his fitness for duty."

Not only that, but "Mohamed Noor was flagged by two psychiatrists during a pre-hiring evaluation in early 2015. The psychiatrists said he seemed unable to handle the stress of regular police work and exhibited an unwillingness to deal with people."
One more piece of evidence - as if we needed more, which shows you who's the real enemy are.

2. Have lots of sex, 3. get married, 4. have kids, 5. be responsible, and 6. get a dad bod are the others for those who might not have gotten past the headline.

Democratic socialist Julia Salazar beats incumbent in N.Y. senate primary
h/t Instapundit
[WashingtonTimes] Julia Salazar, a democratic socialist, overcame intense scrutiny of her personal life and questions about her truthfulness Thursday to win the Democratic primary for a state Senate seat in Brooklyn.

The 27-year-old, first-time candidate defeated Sen. Martin Dilan in New York’s 18th Senate District, joining the ranks of leftist insurgents nationwide who have knocked out mainstream Democrats.

There is no Republican candidate running in the district in the general election, virtually guaranteeing her win.

Dilan, 67, was a 16-year incumbent representing a district that has gone through major changes, with longtime residents being pushed out by rising rents and an influx of mostly white, wealthier newcomers.
I guess, for Yuppies, living in a fantasy world is a plus.

California man steps in front of machete to save woman at Starbucks
[FOX] A California man is being credited for heroism after he reportedly jumped in front of a woman who was allegedly being attacked by a machete-wielding man.

Blaine Hodge, 27, was at a Starbucks in Bakersfield on Sunday when a woman ran into the store, convinced someone was trying to kill her, KGET-TV reported.

"She was panicked. She was saying 'help me' and then at one point she said, 'This guy's going to kill me,'" Hodge's friend, Joe Harris, told the news station.

Harris said a man walked into the store while "holding something in his hand."

That's when Hodge stepped in.

"Everyone else was running away and he was the first person to run straight to the action," Harris told KGET. "He was like: 'I'm going to stop this guy, regardless if I get stabbed or not. I can't let this woman die.'"

Hodge was reportedly stabbed "many times" during the encounter, and required nearly 200 stitches.

It's not a tax problem, It's a spending problem
[CNS] Feds Collect Record Individual Income Taxes Through August; Still Run $898b Deficit.
How much of that is interest on current debt, and how much of that interest payment is higher than in previous years simply due to the interest rate having increased, as President Obama intended? And how much of the remaining is non-discretionary spending over which neither President Trump nor Congress has any say unless Social Security and Medicare payments to our retired citizens are cut?

#1  The average term of US federal debt is around 70 months. Assuming an average interest rate increase of 1% across those 11 months (which probably overstates the case), a debt of $22T & 11/70 of said debt having been refinanced at the higher rate a decent back-of-the-envelope number would be $35B in additional interest costs attributable to said 1% increase in interest rates. Significant but it's still a spending problem.

Mercer: Yellow Journalism of Yellow-Bellied Bob Woodward & the NYT
[Unz] It takes no time at all. You listen to Bob Woodward’s halting speech. You read his lumpen prose, and you get right away what undergirds his Trump-phobic tome, "Fear: Trump in the White House."

Naively, the president had expected to fulfill his revolutionary campaign promises to the American voters, an assumption that threw Woodward and the D.C. elites for a loop.

If past is prologue, voters don’t‐and should not‐get their way. After all, the views of Trump voters on American power are polar opposites of those held by the permanent state.

What does "Boobus Americanus" know? Nothing!

Woodward and the New York Times’ anonymous anti-Trump whistleblower consider the president to be stark raving bonkers for not grasping that Rome on the Potomac moves to its own beat. It does not respond to voters, except to mollify them with "bread and circuses."

Mostly reflexively, not always consciously, The Powers That Be seek to retain and enlarge their sphere of influence. Nothing, not even the venerated vote, is allowed to alter that "balance."

Alleged Italian IS Member Held in Syria, Say Kurds

group as he was trying to flee across the border to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
, they said Thursday.

The People's Protection Units (YPG) have captured several foreign IS fighters since the jihadists' so-called caliphate collapsed nearly a year ago.

"On August 27, a mercenary called Semir Bogana was captured as a result of a special operation conducted by our Anti-Terror Units, when he was trying to flee to Turkey," said the YPG.

It said Bogana -- an Italian citizen known also as Abu Hureyre al-Muhajir or Abu Abdullah al-Muhajir -- was responsible for weapons shipments to IS.

The YPG makes up the bulk of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), a US-backed alliance of Kurds and Arabs that spearheaded the fight against IS.

The detained Italian was currently being interrogated and "his fate will be determined at the end of the investigation," an SDF source told AFP.

"We are coordinating with the international coalition, which includes Italia, about all the ISIS detainees," he added, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

At the peak of its "caliphate" in Syria and Iraq, IS attracted thousands of foreigners to join it.

But it has since lost almost all of its territory, including its de facto capital in Syria, the northern city of Raqa.

Since then, U.S.-backed forces have been detaining foreign IS members in both Syria and Iraq.

Among their most infamous detainees are Alexanda Amon Kotey and El Shafee el-Sheikh, two survivors of a four-man IS unit that saw foreign journalists and others tortured and beheaded.

They had been dubbed "The Beatles" because they were British.

French IS members were also tossed in the calaboose
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
in the months after Raqa's fall, including Adrien Guihal, Emilie Konig, and Thomas Barnouin.

The fate of the foreigners, including whether they are handed over to their national authorities, is a controversial topic as some countries appear unwilling to accept extradited nationals who fought with IS in Syria.

Last month, Washington said two Americans accused of supporting IS had been handed over to U.S. authorities by the Syrian Democratic Forces.

Lebanese members of IS have also been transferred to Beirut.

The man, whose identity has not been revealed, was locked away

at Bulgaria's main Kapitan Andreevo border checkpoint on Tuesday and charged for "terrorism and arms smuggling," prosecutors said in a statement.

Two automatic rifles, a smoothbore hunting rifle, a SIG Sauer pistol and ammunition for the weapons were found in his car as well as 24 knives and a map of his route showing the Syrian city of Idlib as his final destination, the statement added.

The arrest followed an alert put out by the Swiss authorities after the man's father had reported him and his vehicle missing, together with the arms and ammunition.

The man told prosecutors that he wanted to help civilians in Syria.

A court will decide on Friday whether to extend his detention beyond the initial 72 hours and place him under formal arrest.

German minister says refugee deal reached with Italy
[AlAhram] Interior Minister Horst Seehofer said on Thursday that Germany had reached a deal with Italia to return migrants colonists who have already applied for asylum there and added he expected it to be signed soon.

That comes after the German government agreed in August with both Greece and Spain to send migrants colonists back to those countries within 48 hours if they have already applied for asylum there.

"I have just heard that the deal with Italia has also been agreed," Seehofer told the Bundestag lower house of parliament.

"We just need the two signatures from the Italian colleague and me," Seehofer said, adding he expected that to take a few more days.

The deals are part of a compromise between Chancellor Angela Merkel
...chancellor of Germany and the impetus behind Germany's remarkably ill-starred immigration program. Merkel used to be referred to by Germans as Mom. Now they make faces at her for inundating the country with Moslems ..
's Christian Democrats and Seehofer's Bavarian Christian Social Union that appears to resolve a dispute over returning migrants colonists that nearly split them and brought down the government.

More than 1.6 million migrants colonists have arrived in Germany since mid-2014, provoking tensions and propelling the far-right Alternative for Germany (AfD) into the national parliament.

Merkel has repeatedly defended her 2015 decision to admit hundreds of thousands of migrants colonists as a humanitarian necessity, but has since vowed to prevent a re-run of such an influx.

"On September 9th, YPG carried a successful operation, targeting a military vehicle of the Sham Legion (Faylaq al-Sham) in the Sterk village, located near the city center of Afrin," the YPG statement said.

As a result, the vehicle itself was completely destroyed, while both of the FSA rebels nside of the car were killed. In addition, two AK-47 were seized," it added.

Despite the ongoing curfew in Afrin, the YPG has managed to bypass the Ottoman Turkish-backed rebels and carry out more attacks inside this region located in northwestern Aleppo.

White Helmets carry out strictly humanitarian missions in Syria – Pentagon
Either true or the scapegoat has been chosen...
[AlMasdar] The United States maintains that the non-governmental organization White Helmets continues to save many lives in Syria, a US Department of Defense official told Sputnik.

"The White Helmets are a humanitarian organization that has saved thousands of lives and continues to respond to bombardments by Russian and [Syrian] regime military forces," the official said on Wednesday.

The United States and the international community continue to support their work, the US defense official added.

According to the Russian Defense Ministry, the White Helmets, however, together with terrorists, have chosen 22 families with children as well as orphans kidnapped from refugee camps to be in the receiving end of a staged chemical weapons attack, the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation reported.

Terrorists from a group calling itself Tanzim Ḥurras ad-Din (The Guardians of Religion Organization) are engaged in the direct preparation of sites for the detonation of containers loaded with poisonous substances during the shooting of a video about ’chemical attacks’, the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation explained.

The White Helmets and Nusra Front snuffies have approved videos of two scenes, which will be transferred to the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
and the Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons; the rest will be distributed in the social networks, the Russian Center for Syrian Reconciliation also said.

Armenia is sending 100 soldiers to Syria as part of humanitarian mission

Armenia has played an integral role in alleviating the humanitarian crisis in Syria, as their constant aid shipments have helped a large number of Syrians.

Both Syria and Armenia maintain close diplomatic and economic relations, with the latter refusing to cutoff ties to Damascus, despite pressure from the U.S. and other western states.

Hama-Idib axis: SAA hits heavily with missiles and artillery, big turban permanently unwound

Syrian Army hits southeast Idlib hard as offensive approaches (video)

[AlMasdar] (12:20 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) continued their missile and artillery strikes on the southeastern countryside of Idlib this week after taking a short hiatus to observe a silent ceasefire.

Led by their Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army heavily targeted the fortifications of Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham near the Abu Dhuhour Military Airport.

According to a military report from the Tiger Forces, their troops unleashed a flurry of missiles and artillery shells towards the HTS fortifications inside the towns of Umm Khalakhal and Khuwayn.

Despite the absence of the Russian Air Force, the Syrian Arab Army has kept up the pressure on the jihadist rebels in Hama and Idlib by launching daily artillery and missile strikes on their positions.

The Syrian Arab Army is expected to kickoff their offensive in the Hama and Idlib governorates in the coming days, as they await the results of the Turkish-Russian peace talks.

Syrian Army unleashes big assault across Hama-Idlib axis

[AlMasdar] (2:10 P.M.) – The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) unleashed a big assault across the Idlib-Hama axis this afternoon, following a rather quiet morning in northwest Syria.

Led by the Tiger Forces, the Syrian Arab Army began the attack by heavily targeting the Islamist rebels near the Masasneh Checkpoint.

According to a military source in Damascus, the Syrian Army managed to eliminate an entire group of Jaish al-Izza fighters, including two snipers.

Following this attack, the Syrian Arab Army began targeting Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
’s trenches around the western axis of Tal Wast.

The Syrian Arab Army was able to destroy at least three trenches belonging to Hay’at Tahrir Al-Sham before they shifted their attention to the Idlib Governorate.

Using surface-to-surface missiles, the Syrian Arab Army heavily shelled the town of Tamanah, hitting a number of jihadist installations in the process.

The Syrian Arab Army is now focusing most of their attack on the towns of Tamanah and Sukeek, which are both located in the southern part of the Idlib Governorate.

Notorious jihadist who had been evacuated from Damascus killed in northern Hama

[AlMasdar] (3:25 P.M.) – A senior rebel commander who had spent years fighting the Syrian Army near Damascus was killed today in northern Hama countryside.

Khalid al-Tinawi, nicknamed Abu Omar al-Dimashqi, was killed when the Syrian Army bombed caves and hidouts for jihadi groups in Lataminah village; killing and injuring scores.

Al-Dimashqi was one of thousands of militants who had been evacuated with their families from Jobar neighborhood east of the Syrian capital to the country’s north as per an evacuation deal.

The slain militant was known for posting filmed threat message on his Facebook page a few hours before he left Jobar, where he vowed to return victorious to take over the Syrian capital.

Battle map update of northeast Latakia as Syrian Army prepares to launch offensive
[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army (SAA) is gearing up for their last offensive in the Latakia Governorate, as they look to seal the Idlib provincial border once and for all.

Led by their elite 42nd Brigade of the 4th Armored Division, the Syrian Arab Army is preparing to launch a big offensive from two imperative axes in northern Latakia.

The two axes that will be targeted by the Syrian Arab Army are located on the Turkmen Mountain (Jabal Turkmen) and Kurdish Mountain (Jabal al-Akrad).

The primary objective of this offensive will be to not only seal the Idlib provincial border, but also the Latakia-Ottoman Turkish border.

In addition to sealing these borders, the Syrian Army will also attempt to capture the jihadist stronghold of Kabbani, which is used to launch missiles towards the placid provincial capital.

Once these areas are seized, the Syrian Army will move east towards the strategic city of Jisr al-Shughour in the southwestern countryside of the Idlib Governorate.

Sweida: Syrian Army advances 3.5km deep into ISIS-held territory
[AlMasdar] The Syrian Arab Army has been steadily advancing inside the al-Safa region of the Sweida Governorate this month, liberating several areas from the so-called Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS).

Led by their 3rd and 10th divisions, the Syrian Arab Army has taken advantage of the Islamic State’s lack of provisions to liberate a large chunk of territory along the southwestern and northeastern axes of the al-Safa region.

According to a Syrian Army officer interviewed by the Sputnik News Agency, his troops have managed to advance approximately 3.5 kilometers deep into ISIS-occupied territory since the start of this offensive in July.

The officer told Sputnik that the operation to capture the rocky cliffs in the al-Safa region has been one of the most difficult tasks thus far during this offensive.

However,
if you can't be a good example, then you'll just have to be a horrible warning...
he said once the Syrian Army breaks through the Islamic State’s defenses at these rocky cliffs, they will ultimately force the terrorist group to surrender because they have limited provisions and no access to water.

Haley threatens Russia, Syria, Iran over alleged chemical weapons threat
[AlMasdar] In a video interview with Fox News on Wednesday, the U.S. Ambassador to the Unied Nations, Nikki Haley
...Trump administration's ambassador to the UN. First woman to serve as Governor of South Carolina, and the second Indian-American governor in the country, after Bobby Jindal of Louisiana. At the age of 39, Haley was the youngest governor in the U.S., a distinction formerly held by Jindal. She is a Republican, which really grates on the Dems...
, issued a stern warning to the governments of Russia, Syria, and Iran about using chemical weapons.

Haley told Fox News that the U.S. has repeatedly warned these three nations about using chemical weapons, adding that Washington will decisively strike culprits if it happens again.

"What we told, you know, the Syrians, the Russians and the Iranians was, well, twice we have warned you not to use chemical weapons; twice you have used it, and twice President Trump has acted. Don’t test us again. Because I think the odds are very much against them," Haley said.

She also recalled that the issue of the Syrian government troops allegedly preparing a chemical weapons attack on civilians was discussed at three meetings of the UN Security Council, where most of its members ostensibly cautioned Russia against conducting any such attack in Syria.

Haley’s remarks came just a few days after she warned Russia and Iran of "dire consequences" if they continue Arclight airstrikes against Death Eater-held areas in Syria’s Idlib province, adding that the US would respond to any use of chemical weapons there.

"I also want to reiterate what I said last week to the Assad regime and anyone else contemplating the use of chemical weapons in Syria. The United States followed through when we said that we would respond to the use of chemical weapons. We stand by this warning," she noted.

US-backed forces break into ISIL’s last Euphrates stronghold – map & video
[AlMasdar] 2018-09-14 (6:30 A.M.) ‐ The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) scored a major advance in the Deir Ezzor Governorate this week after restarting their operations in the Euphrates River Valley.

"On September 10th, the SDF began to advance from 4 different fronts towards the areas controlled by the ISIS terrorist organization such an as Hajin, al-Susa, al-Shafa and the neighboring villages."

Backed by heavy Arclight airstrikes from the French and US air forces, the Syrian Democratic Forces made a significant push into the town of Baghouz Fouqani on Wednesday after finally cracking the Islamic State

’s lines near the Iraqi border.

The SDF was able to break through the first line of the Islamic State’s defenses and advance about 3 km into their Euphrates Valley stronghold. In this area, a number of military points were seized and destroyed from the Islamic State, the SDF’s media added.

On the al-Kasrah axis, the SDF had advanced about 6 km within the first two days.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Your Semi-Annual Sob Story About Underpaid US Teachers
This shit really ticks me right the fuck off:
[Time] - Hope Brown can make $60 donating plasma from her blood cells twice in one week, and a little more if she sells some of her clothes at a consignment store.
(just a bit of unreported income here? - ed.)
It’s usually just enough to cover an electric bill or a car payment
(are you driving a used Pinto / Hyundai Excel? - ed.).
This financial juggling is now a part of her everyday life‐something she never expected almost two decades ago when she earned a master’s degree in secondary education and became a high school history teacher. Brown often works from 5 a.m. to 4 p.m. at her school in Versailles, Ky., then goes to a second job manning the metal detectors and wrangling rowdy guests at Lexington’s Rupp Arena. With her husband, she also runs a historical tour company for extra money.

"I truly love teaching," says the 52-year-old. "But we are not paid for the work that we do."

That has become the rallying cry of many of America’s public-school teachers, who have staged walkouts and marches on six state capitols this year. From Arizona to Oklahoma, in states blue, red and purple, teachers have risen up to demand increases in salaries, benefits and funding for public education. Their outrage has struck a chord, reviving a national debate over the role and value of teachers and the future of public education.
I first saw this on a high school friend's Facebook page (do not lecture me on that point - I have a semi-professional commitment for that; key words 'high school' for you wannabe wags / scolds) and within 20 seconds had the following questions about what a piece of shit slanted hatchet job this article was:

Not trying to pick a fight here, but for me this article raises more questions than it answers. How many teachers arrive three hours before the presumed 8:00 opening bell? Does she do this every single day ('often' is not quantified and could mean any number)? What exactly is she doing during those three hours? Why isn't her actual salary mentioned, or her husband's? Does she have a family? How many kids are they trying to support? Are they living in a house they really can't afford?

The salary omission is, to me, really the key to this entire article, and the failure to disclose it does little to sell the main point of the article, that presumably she is underpaid relative to her efforts.

I don't like articles like this which are scant on certain facts, like the ones I just mentioned. Granted, I'm a cold, heartless bastard but for me the point of this article (and I've read many of them) is to take one person's situation and then shoehorn that into an indictment of the whole system. It's rightly called a 'sob story', meant to elicit sympathy for the subjects of the story. Sorry, I'm not buying it.

Care to guess the number of responses to that post / comment of mine?

#4  Work 9 months of the year to get the salary that all others have to work 11 and a half?

If their output was of superior measured quality why would anyone object? Problem is that the quality is lacking and obstruction to good metrics only raises suspicion to actual performance.

Besides one of the greatest contributors to successful students is a home environment that supports education. Lowering standards incentivizes good parents to remove those higher performers from the public system. Raising teachers salaries does not effect any of that, thus little change in outputs other than creating day care and paper mill factories that exist upon the back of taxpayers.

That's a biggie for a lot of folks.

In addition to that, her husband might be an 'occasional earner' or perhaps a true deadbeat.

The school mandated they get master's Degrees w/in a few years and yes there was some support for that but are not complaining now. And they also have a portion of their pay during the school year withheld to cover the summer.
Not living in a Stately Wayne Manner, but typical 'burb, and have 2 late model cars, neither on a Rolls.

Their biggest complaint re compensation was the mandatory dues collection ( both conservatives) going towards the WEA and NEA democrat support.

If enough teachers do that there will be a shortage of teachers and school districts will have to pay more. But if there are too many would be teachers looking for jobs the districts will have to pay less. Anyone who aspires to teach our children should understand supply and demand.

#14  Straight pissed me off.

As well it should. Totally ignores the economies of scale, for one thing. For another, babysitters don't generally make your kids stupider.

In one of those amusing coincidences the Universe is famous for, I happened to see this graph the other day: inflation-adjusted cost of K-12 education vs student achievement. tl;dr: Since 1970, costs have risen 200% while student test scores have remained flat.

To be fair, a lot of that cost is the increased number of administrators, diversity officers and other well-paid but useless poobahs, not teacher's salaries. But recently, there have been a number of news stories about the low percentage of high school grads who are scored as competent in reading, math and science. The lack of progress in education is striking if you compare today's cars, computers, science, medicine, whatever with 1970s state-of-the-art.

And don't get me started on the whole-word method of learning to read, or Common Core math.

#16  Just thought I'd post this: In Woodford County, KY, where that teacher lives and works, her salary for 9 months of work is between $57,000 and $64,000, depending on her professional qualifications aside from her Masters. She receives $18,000 and change in benefits, including health insurance, term life insurance, and a state pension. She can earn extra money by teaching during the summer, or by, for instance, being a club sponsor, a counsellor, tutor or an athletic coach (the teacher in the article does none of those things). Her daily hours are 8:15 to 3:15, including a guaranteed meal break and several periods during the day that must be left open for her to complete her classwork. If her salary was extended to 12 months, her annual salary for about 6 hours of work a day would be $77,000 a year.

Dalai Lama: ‘Europe Belongs to Europeans', Refugees Should Return and Rebuild Homelands
[Breitbart] The Dalai Lama has told a press conference in Sweden that "Europe belongs to the Europeans", asserting that refugees should be repatriated so they can rebuild their homelands.

Speaking in the multicultural city of Malmö, where nearly half of residents are of foreign background, with Iraqis making up the largest single group, the leader of Tibetan Buddhism said Sweden is seen as "a peaceful, generally prosperous country" with a relatively small gap between rich and poor.

"Spontaneously", reports Norrköpings Tidningar, the Dalai Lama then "moved on to talk about one of the biggest issues in the Swedish election ‐ the reception of refugees".

Noting that a large number of immigrants have settled in Europe from the Middle East and elsewhere, the Nobel Peace Prize-winning spiritual leader said it was good for nations to help "a refugee really facing danger against their life".

"Receive them, help them, educate them... but ultimately they should develop their own country," said the 83-year-old Tibetan.

"I think Europe belongs to the Europeans," he added, stressing that countries like Germany and Sweden should make clear that refugees must "return to their homelands and rebuild them".

Arabia
Israel sells Saudi Arabia Iron Dome...or not
WOW! If true
[Israel National News] Defense establishment initially opposed deal, but American pressure and Saudi promise that system would not endanger Israel led to signing.

The Saudi-based Al-Khaleej Online reported today that Saudi Arabia had acquired an Iron Dome system from Israel to defend itself from missile attacks by the Houthi rebels in Yemen.

According to the report, the deal was mediated by the United States, in which the Saudis undertook that the system would not endanger Israel or its allies.

Israeli security sources say this is a significant development in the relationship between Israel and Saudi Arabia. According to the report, Israel initially refused to sell the Saudis to the system because the two countries have no diplomatic relations and the system may be used against it. Saudi Arabia involved the Americans who exerted pressure and brought about a change in the Israeli position.

The deal is due to take place within a few months and the first battery is due to arrive in Saudi Arabia before 2019.

Knowledgeable observers have suggested the move may indicate Israel has developed a newer version of the system.

Iron Dome was designed to detect, evaluate, and intercept missiles, cannon rounds, mortars, helicopters, and air threats. Launched by the Israeli Air Force in April 2011, Iron Dome intercepted more than 1,000 rockets fired from Gaza in Southern and Central Israel, with a 90% success rate.

Although Israel remains the sole operator of Iron Dome, several countries have expressed interest in the system, including the United States. Raytheon is working toward production of a US version of Iron Dome called the SkyHunter® missile that could someday defend forward-deployed American forces.

Israel Defense Ministry denies Saudi Arabia purchased Iron Dome

...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
purchased the Iron Dome missile defense system from Israel.

"We deny the existence of a deal to sell Iron Dome to Saudi Arabia," the Defense Ministry says in an emailed statement.

Al-Khaleej Online, an Arabic news site with offices in the UK and the Persian Gulf, reported earlier this morning that Saudi Arabia purchased the missile defense batteries from Israel to place along its border with Yemen, citing unnamed diplomatic sources.

[KhaamaPress] At least seven key Taliban

group members including their shadow spy chief for the southeastern parts of the country have been killed in Paktia province.

The provincial government media office in a statement said the Taliban spy chief for southeastern provinces Zainatullah, also famous as Farhad, was killed with six others in an Arclight airstrike.

The statement further added that the murderous Moslems were killed as they were travelling in a vehicle to plan future terrorist activities.

Other key Taliban group members killed during the airstrike have been identified as Gul Rahman famous as Anas, Habibullah famous as Edris, and Bohran.

This comes as at least 35 murderous Moslems were killed during the ground operations and airstrikes in Zurmat district Tuesday, the statement said, adding that some key Taliban group leaders and Paks were also among those killed.

According to the provincial government, more than sixty murderous Moslems were also maimed during the same operations.

Syria and Jordan begin talks on opening vital border crossing
[Ynet] Jordan and Syria held their first technical talks on opening a major border crossing in southern Syria that was recaptured from the opposition last July, a Jordanian official source said on Thursday.

Damascus, which took back the crossing from the opposition, hopes to reopen the Nassib route vital to its hopes of reviving Syria's shattered economy and rebuilding in territory under its control.

Amman also hopes the opening of the border crossing will reactivate billions of dollars of annual transit trade between Europe

and Gulf markets across Syria.

The source told Rooters the meeting that was requested by Syria was held on Wednesday at the Jaber crossing, on the Jordanian side of the border, where technical teams began talks on the practical arrangements from customs to security needed to reopen the crossing.

Farzad Fazeli
Follow-up from Weds. submission:
Here’s what you need to know:

California man is accused of attacking a Republican politician at a fair during an anti-Trump and anti-GOP rant. Farzad Fazeli
Nota bene: Farzad is a Persian name. Fazeli may also be Persian — the internet is unsure, but that seems to be the background of famous people with that name. That does not necessarily mean our Mr. Fazeli is a Moslem colonist, though.
was arrested after police say he threatened Rudy Peters, who is running for Congress against Democrat Rep. Eric Swalwell

The 35-year-old Fazeli pulled out a "switchblade," during the incident and tried to stab Peters, but the knife did not work, the Alameda County Sheriff’s Office said in a press release. The incident occurred as Peters campaigned on September 9 at the Castro Valley Fall Festival, the sheriff’s office said.

"The knife malfunctioned and the victim became involved in a physical struggle with Fazeli," Sergeant Ray Kelly said in a statement. Fazeli fled the scene but was detained a short time later by deputies. A switchblade knife was located on his person. ... No serious injuries were reported as a result of the incident. The case has been forwarded to the District Attorney." Fazeli has been charged with felony assault, criminal threats, brandishing a weapon and possession of a switchblade knife.

Peters, a 56-year-old businessman running for California’s 15th Congressional District seat, told the San Francisco Chronicle, "It’s a shame. People are just polarized right now, and this country’s divided and it’s just a mess. It shouldn’t be that way."

Swalwell, his Democratic opponent, tweeted, "On Sunday, my opponent @PetersCongress was attacked at his campaign booth in Castro Valley. I’m glad to hear Mr. Peters is okay. But it’s NEVER okay to use violence to settle political disagreements (or any disagreement). Fortunately, @ACSOSheriffs arrested the suspect."

Stunning footage shows the Northern Lights bursting with colour over Lapland as scientists reveal the spectacular light show is MORE colourful because of a change in the sun's atmosphere
[Mail] This incredible footage shows the Northern Lights erupting with colour over Lapland.

Scientists say the spectacular light show was bursting with more colour this week because of a huge hole that has opened up in the sun's corona.

The northern and southern lights, also known as the 'Auroras', are triggered when electrically-charged particles from the sun enter the Earth’s atmosphere.

Solar flares only impact Earth when they occur on the side of the sun facing the Earth. Sometimes, these explosions can send out coronal mass ejections - large clouds of plasma and magnetic field that erupt from the sun.

The increased number of charged-particles ejected from the hole in the sun's upper atmosphere combined with a potent burst of solar wind is believed to have fuelled more intense light shows.

These have also extended the reach of the 'Aurora Borealis', or Northern Lights, which can now been seen at high latitudes in the US and UK.

Iraq
Erbil will not ‘hand over’ Kurdish dissidents to Iran: KRG
[Rudaw] Erbil has turned down a request from Iran to hand over Iranian-Kurdish dissidents based in the Region.

"There is nothing like handing over anyone. They have been in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region since the 80s and during the Baathist regime and a large number of them have been registered with UNCHR as immigrants colonists," Safin Dizayee, the KRG spokesperson, told a presser in Erbil on Thursday.

On Tuesday, Iran’s top general demanded the Kurdistan Region "hand over" Iranian-Kurdish dissidents based in the Region.

"The state of Iraq and Kurdistan Region must not allow bases to be built that would cause insecurity and in fact they must hand all of them over," Maj. Gen. Mohammed Bagheri, commander-in-chief of all armed forces, said in comments carried by Fars news.

The Iranian Revolutionary Guard Corp (IRGC) fired seven surface-to-surface missiles across the border on Saturday morning, striking camps and headquarters of two Iranian-Kurdish parties, the PDKI and the KDP-I, near the Kurdistan Region’s Koya while they were holding leadership meetings.

The Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) is officially opposed to any Kurdish group using the Region’s territory to attack neighbouring Iran or The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and it repeated this stance after Saturday’s strikes.

Dizayee said the Iranian Kurdish opposition groups should "respect the immigration laws" and not "use the Kurdistan Region as a base to destabilize the security and stability of the neighbouring country."

The long standing rivalry between the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran and Kurdish groups must only be resolved through peaceful means, he added.

Iranian-Kurdish parties have had camps and bases in the present-day Kurdistan Region since the early 1980s.

Waffle Houses canary in the coal mine in the south
[FoxNews] As Hurricane Florence, now a Category 2 storm, drives toward the East Coast, Waffle House is monitoring the impending dangerous weather by activating its storm center.

The popular Georgia-based diner chain, renowned for its 24-hour service 365 days per year, has an emergency routine that’s so well-regarded, the Federal Emergency Management Agency unofficially uses the restaurants' status as an indicator for the severity of a natural disaster.

After several Waffle House locations closed or were serving only a limited menu in 2004 when Hurricane Charley hit Florida, FEMA officials noted the severity of the storm damage based on the fact that the chain never closes.

“If you get there and the Waffle House is closed? That’s really bad. That’s where you go to work,” then FEMA administrator Craig Fugate said.

When a storm strikes, local officials will put out a call to the nearest Waffle House and find out what’s on the menu. The “Waffle House Index” has three, color-coded levels: green means the restaurant is open and serving a full menu; yellow indicates the menu has been scaled back and there may be water but no power; and red indicates the restaurant is completely shut down—and the area is likely in need of serious assistance.

Kerry goes rogue again, talks with Iran about nuke deal
[AmericanThinker] Since Donald Trump became president, former secretary of state John Kerry has taken it upon himself to undermine the administration's foreign policy by attempting to negotiate with foreign powers on his own.

In May, Kerry met with a high-level Palestinian official, telling him he would promote the Palestinian "peace plan" and that P.A. leader Mahmoud Abbas should simply ignore the president of the United States. The meeting took place shortly after Trump announced moving the U.S. embassy to Jerusalem.

Now it's been revealed that Kerry met with Iranian officials to "salvage" the nuclear deal.

IDF says it detonated large bomb placed on Gaza fence, foiling attack
[IsraelTimes] Military says IED planted during recent riot proves Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", is trying to keep border festivities going, despite ceasefire talks

The Israeli military on Thursday detonated a large bomb that had been placed along the Gazoo security fence by Paleostinians during a recent riot, the army said.

The Israel Defense Forces said the placement of the improvised bomb showed that the Gazoo-ruling Hamas terror group was trying to keep up the festivities along the border, despite the reported ongoing ceasefire talks with Israel.

The large IED, which was placed inside a blue jerrycan, was found earlier this week by the IDF next to the security fence in the southern Gazoo Strip.

On Thursday morning, the military destroyed the bomb in a controlled kaboom, the army said.

"The cell of bandidos Death Eaters that planted the bomb planned to injure IDF soldiers and interrupt the operations of forces working in the area," the army said.

"IDF soldiers foiled the attempted terror attack. There were no injuries, and no damage was caused," the military said in a statement.

According to the IDF, the bomb was placed along the fence during a riot earlier in the week.

"The planting of the bomb by the terrorist cell under the cover of a violent demonstration is further evidence that the Hamas terror group is working to maintain the conflict in the fence area and to injure IDF soldiers, while using residents of the Gazoo Strip as human shields and as cover for terrorist activities," the army said.

On Monday, several thousand Paleostinians rioted along the Gazoo security fence, burning tires and throwing rocks at IDF troops on the other side, the army said.

Europe
Finland 'Will Not Deport' Afghan Families With Children
[ToloNews] The Finnish Immigration Service (Migri) announced Wednesday that it had updated its policy on repatriations to Afghanistan; therefore, the agency will not require families with children to attempt to relocate in the capital, Kabul.

Migri said the prevailing circumstances in Kabul have made it less likely that citizens will be able to relocate to the capital to escape persecution or other disruptions in their native provinces, yle said in a report.

"There are more internal refugees. Their situation is so difficult that the options for making a living are limited," said Migri Director General Jaana Vuorio.

She stressed however, that the agency's new policy would not change its assessment of families that are currently resident in Kabul.

As a result of its new approach, Migri said it will only be considering two groups of asylum seekers for repatriation to Afghanistan. They include healthy and able-bodied unmarried men who are not particularly vulnerable in any way, as well as healthy, childless married couples of working age who are not particularly vulnerable and have a safety net in Kabul.

However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
Migri noted it would not automatically assume that internal relocation is an option for asylum seekers belonging to either of these groups.

"An overall assessment is performed in all cases, and the possibility of internal flight is assessed individually," Migri said in a statement.

Last week Migri announced that it was temporarily suspending Afghan asylum decisions while it considered guidelines issued by the UN refugee agency concerning the situation in Afghanistan.

"The update was performed because, on 30 August 2018, the United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
High Commissioner for Refugees published its guidelines on assessing the need for international protection of asylum seekers from Afghanistan," Migri noted.

The agency has now resumed processing applications, with around 760 asylum applicants currently awaiting decisions.

Question: How long until two of the lads and their “father” do their best to commit mass murder during a music festival, political rally, or professional soccer game using homemade explosives and several very illegal guns they found under a bench in the park, while another grabs a knife from the kitchen of his “mother” and gets stabby among the Saturday shoppers, and the rest have their way with their classmates of both sexes at school?

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Activists: Turkey beefing up its troops in Syria’s Idlib
[Rudaw] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
sent in military reinforcements Thursday to beef up its positions inside Syria’s last rebel bastion Idlib, activists reported, even as the Ottoman Turkish defense minister said Ankara is still trying with Russia and Iran to prevent a humanitarian tragedy in the case of a threatened Syrian government offensive.

Hulusi Akar, the Ottoman Turkish defense minister, said a military operation in the densely populated rebel enclave would drag the already problematic region toward disaster. He spoke during a meeting with foreign ambassadors late Wednesday, according to the state-run Ottoman Turkish Anadolu Agency.

"We are working with Russia, Iran and other allies to bring peace and stability and to stop a humanitarian tragedy," Akar said, according to Anadolu.

The Ottoman Turkish deployment comes amid a lull in a concerted government and Russian aerial bombing campaign on the southern edge of Idlib.

Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said Thursday a Ottoman Turkish convoy entered from Kfar Lusin crossing in northern Idlib, heading to some of the 12 Ottoman Turkish observations points that ring Idlib. A video shot by activists of the monitoring group Central Station for Ottoman Turkish Intervention showed armored and gun-mounted vehicles and tanks driving through an Idlib road. Both said the convoy was heading to two different observation points, one south of Idlib and another in the center. But the Ottoman Turkish military did not immediately respond to request for comment.

Turkey deployed hundreds of its soldiers to 12 observation posts that ring Idlib, following a de-escalation agreement reached with Russia and Iran last year to freeze the lines of the conflict, effectively placing Ankara as a protector of the province.

The rebels have held the Idlib province since 2015 but a government offensive captured chunks on the eastern flanks of the province last year before Turkey began deploying its observation points and halting the advances.

In recent weeks, Syrian government forces have been massing to the south and southwest of the province, and in recent days launched an intense aerial bombing campaign targeting rebel positions, three medical centers and rescue workers last week.

But the bombing has let up in the last 24 hours.

Turkey has appealed for a cease-fire in Idlib, which straddles its borders and is home to more than 3 million people. It is seeking to gain time to support its efforts, it said, to separate radical bully boyz from moderate opposition groups it backs.

Turkey has appealed for international support to its efforts to halt an offensive.

The US warned Russia Wednesday that it will bear responsibility for the resulting humanitarian crisis in Syria if the Moscow-backed Syrian military attacks Idlib.

Eric Pahon, a Pentagon front man, said the US and its allies are concerned about the deadly consequences of such an offensive.

Pahon said the US questions the continued presence of more than a dozen Russian warships off of Syrian Mediterranean coast, adding the ships must operate safely and abide by international law.

Iranian tankers stranded by threat of US sanctions
[ARABNEWS] Two tankers carrying Iranian condensate, a type of ultra-light oil, have been floating off the UAE for about a month as demand for the oil fell ahead of US sanctions.

The tankers, carrying about 2.4 million barrels of South Pars condensate combined, were stranded after South Korea halted imports from Iran and China’s demand fell during summer, according to industry sources and shipping data.

The build-up in Iranian oil supplies underscores the pressure that Iran is facing as Washington aims to bring Iranian oil exports down to zero to force Tehran to re-negotiate a nuclear deal.

The Very Large Crude Carrier (VLCC) Felicity loaded condensate at Iran’s Assaluyeh port in early August and then set sail for Jebel Ali in the UAE, shipping and trade flows data on Thomson Rooters Eikon showed.

It arrived at the ship-to-ship transfer area off Dubai on Aug. 7 and has been anchored there since. Similarly, the Suezmax tanker Salina also loaded oil at Assaluyeh and has been circling in the same area off Dubai since Aug. 17, according to the data.

Oil processors in South Korea, Iran’s top customer for South Pars condensate, halted Iranian oil liftings in July as banks, insurance and shipping companies wound down business related to Iran before US sanctions on the country’s petroleum sector kick in on Nov. 4. China typically cuts South Pars condensate imports in the summer because of its foul smell, the sources said.

[KhaamaPress] The coalition forces in Afghanistan have released a new video of airstrikes on Taliban militants in southeastern Ghazni province of Afghanistan.

According to a short statement released by the coalition forces, the airstrikes were carried out on 10th September in the vicinity of Nawa district, leaving at least 30 militants dead.

“U.S. Forces in Afghanistan conducted two kinetic strikes against Taliban leaders and fighters assembled at adjacent compounds in Nawah district, Ghazni province, Afghanistan, September 10, 2018. The double-structure strike resulted in 30 Taliban killed,” the statement said.

Ghazni is among the relatively volatile provinces in southeastern parts of the country where the Taliban militants are actively operating in some of its districts.

The group launched a coordinated attack on the provincial capital of Ghazni province earlier last month that lasted for several days.

According to reports, the attack on Ghazni city inflicted heavy casualties on civilians besides the Taliban militants and security personnel also sustained heavy casualties during the clashes.

vehicle and neutralised scores of the bully boyz at Tumbun Rego on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno.

Air Commodore Ibikunle Daramola, NAF Director of Public Relations and Information, who disclosed this in a statement on Thursday in Abuja, said that the operation was carried out on Wednesday.

"As Operation THUNDER STRIKE 2 entered the tenth day, Sept. 12, the Air Task Force (ATF) of Operation LAFIYA DOLE has recorded significant successes against Boko Haram Terrorists (BHT) in air raids conducted at Tumbun Rego on the fringes of Lake Chad in Borno State.

" The attacks were conducted in successive waves, involving Nigerian Air Force (NAF) F-7Ni and Alpha Jet combat aircraft.

" As well as Mi-35M Helicopter Gunships supported by Intelligence Surveillance and Reconnaissance (ISR) platforms.resulting in the destruction of a BHT vehicle and neutralization of scores of myrmidons.

" Characteristic of the myrmidons’ tactics, the BHT fighters were initially well camouflaged under foliage and inside abandoned buildings within the settlement.

" However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
timely intelligence enabled the ISR platforms to track and locate one of the BHT vehicles as it was entering the settlement," he said.

Daramola said that the vehicle was engaged and destroyed by the attack aircraft.

" Subsequent waves of attack targeted the scores of bully boyz that emerged from their hiding places after the attack on the vehicle. These were engaged in turns by the attack aircraft and neutralised," he said.

In another development, Daramola said the ATF conducted several ISR and Close Air Support missions throughout the night of 12 and early morning of Sept.13, in support of troops of the 145 Nigerian Army Battalion, ensuring that the BHTs’ attack at Damasak was thwarted.

He said the Chief of the Air Staff, Air Marshal Sadique Abubakar, was in Maiduguri Sept.13 to again assess progress of the operation as well as boost the morale of the frontline troops.

The NAF front man said Abubakar seized the opportunity to commend the Command and personnel of the ATF for their efforts.

He said the CAS also urged them to sustain the momentum of operations with a view to locating and destroying all remnants of the bully boyz within the fringes of Lake Chad and other areas in Northern Borno.(NAN)

Fifth Column
Red on red: University LGBT society disbanded after arguing feminists need to be 'reeducated' in gulags
[Joe.co.uk] Goldsmiths LGBTQ+ society has been suspended and disaffiliated from the Students' Union after tweeting an extensive thread defending the use of gulags for "reeducation."

A member of the society with access to its Twitter account spent Monday September 10 attacking "T*rfs" (Trans-exclusionary radical feminists), before arguing that gulags have been mischaracterised as a result of CIA propaganda, sending bigots to them is "compassionate" and that the Soviet penal system was, in actual fact, "rehabillitary [sic]."
It's like The Gulag Archipelago was never written. It was disappeared and made into wrongthink.
A Trans-exclusionary radical feminist is a person who does not accept a trans-woman is a woman.
What else is one to think about men who pretend to be women in order to take over their last remaining political refuge?
The Twitter account posted these views in the "mini-thread" transcribed and screenshotted below, since the society's webpage has been taken down and tweets made protected:

"So... first of all,the USSR no longer exists, therefore "gulags" no longer exist. May as well make a case against orientalism but USSR =/= Russia. Russia is NOT governed by a communist party. Got that? Okay, good.

So... gulags. First myth to debunk: "u work until u die in gulags!!!!". The Soviets did away with life sentences and the longest sentence was 10 years. Capital punishment was reserved for the most heinous, serious crimes.

Why? The penal system was a rehabillitary one and self supporting, a far cry from the Western, capitalist notion of prison. The aim was to correct and change the ways of "criminals". If it couldn’t be done in 10 years, it couldn’t be done at all.

Much like wider Soviet society, everyone who was *able* to work did so at a wage proportionate to those who weren’t incarcerated and, as they gained skills, were able to move up the ranks and work under less supervision.

Educational work was also a prominent feature of the Soviet penal system. There were regular classes, book clubs, newspaper editorial teams, sports, theatre & performance groups.

There’s so much more to add but the reality is none of you actually care to learn about gulags. You don’t care about what fascism actually is and how it fuelled by anti-communist, orientalist myths and lies propagated by the CIA.

Long story short, friends, the ideas of TERFs and anti trans bigots literally *kill* and must be eradicated through reeducation. Science must be decolonised and de-essentialised in order for this to happen. #noterfsonourterf

Final note: If your sources are written by fascists or supported by the US State Department, they’re probably pretty trash sources. Good night and remember ‐ #NoTerfsOnOurTurf"
The far left openly advocating for gulags - not for us, but for fellow leftists who aren't quite far left enough. I can't think of a more suitable warning to not just the left, but the entire world.
The assumption is that those who aren’t fellow leftists are already in the gulags... or dust in the wind, depending. Someone needs to be used to debug the system before the insufficiently woke 1st gen. get what’s coming to them from those who know better.

#1  A Trans-exclusionary radical feminist is a person who does not accept a trans-woman is a woman.
I thought someone that thought a trans-woman was not a (biological) woman was called a 'Biologist'...
My eyes crossed trying to parse Trans-exclusionary radical feminist ... Okay, breaking it down Trans[vestite]-, understand so far, -exclusionary, understand so far, radical, (??) it is new and 'radical' to discriminate against transvestites, who knew?, and feminist -- (WTF?!?) Now I am totally lost as to what this twit was trying to convey... Word Salad logorrhea...

So much for... 'a few bad FBI apples'
[PJ] Rep. Jim Jordan (R-OH) revealed on Fox News Wednesday that as many as thirteen different FBI officials were leaking to one reporter, according to the Department of Justice inspector general’s report on the FBI’s handling of the Clinton email investigation.

He presented that information to push back against spin from fired FBI Agent Peter Strzok’s lawyer, who claimed that an April 2017 text message referring to the FBI's "media strategy" was about combating leaks.

"The argument that Mr. Strzok’s making just doesn’t hold water, doesn’t pass the smell test," Jordan said.

Newly revealed text messages show Strzok discussing media leaks with his paramour, former FBI attorney Lisa Page. "I had literally just gone to find this phone to tell you I want to talk to you about media leak strategy with DOJ before you go," one of the texts reads.

Iran steps up quest to dominate Iraq with attack on Kurds
[ARABNEWS] Although Iran’s rising influence in the region is in the spotlight, Tehran’s treatment of Kurds has been receiving less attention. Interactions between the Iranian regime and the Kurdish population have been mainly subject to political polemics rather than scholarly work.

Iran has ratcheted up its anti-Kurdish policy in recent months. Most recently, Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) attacked a Kurdish base in Koysinjaq, located east of Irbil in northern Iraq, killing at least 12 people and wounding 50 others. According to a statement by the Democratic Party of Iranian Kurdistan (PDKI), "Iran used long-range missiles in a coordinated attack on PDKI’s bases and adjacent refugee camps."

The Iranian regime strikes also hit the headquarters of a different Kurdish group, the Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI).

There was a move to the right on the continent before that, but the migration debate has brought many "alt-right" parties to the fore.

Iraq
Kirkuk combat chronicle: turbans kidnap 2, 4 dead fighters found

ISIS militants storm health facility in Daquq, kidnap 2

[Rudaw] ISIS bandidos snuffies kidnapped two Kurdish men from a village in Daquq, south of Kirkuk on Thursday and stole medical equipment from a health centre, according to police.

An ambulance driver named Sabah Tahir and another man named Sherwan Mahmood were kidnapped, Daquq police said in a statement. Militants also raided a health centre in the village of Haftaghar, making off with medicines and equipment.

Police say they have launched an investigation into the incident.

Residents of Daquq have repeatedly called on Baghdad to secure the district from ISIS remnants operating in the area.

Kurds living in Daquq are abandoning their homes, fearing the resurgence of ISIS. Iraqi security forces are only present inside the cities and larger towns of southern and western Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
leaving swathes of the countryside undefended.

"ISIS bandidos snuffies openly and especially during night time break into the village buying whatever they need at the shops and bazaars," one Haftaghar resident, who preferred to remain anonymous, told Rudaw. ISIS groups are also ambushing Iraqis on main roads, he added.

The Kurdish Peshmerga withdrew from the area in October 2017 following a takeover by Iraqi forces supported by Iran-backed Hashd al-Shaabi paramilitias. The resulting security gaps have allowed ISIS remnants to regroup and to move unrestricted.

Bodies of 3 Peshmerga, 1 civilian found in Hawija

[Rudaw] Four bodies were discovered in Hawija, Kirkuk province on Thursday, according to a statement from Hashd al-Shaabi forces in the area. ID cards found on their bodies suggest three of them were Peshmerga soldiers killed during the ISIS conflict.

Hashd al-Shaabi said its forces discovered the bodies of three Peshmerga and one Arab civilian from Dhi Ghar. They are currently trying to contact the families of the dear departed.

According to a handout picture of the ID cards found with the bodies, the Peshmerga solders’ names are Zeyad Hawez Rashid, Hoshang Abdulrehman Shahin, and Rajab Hassan Shahin. The Arab civilian has been named as Hussein Hadi.

No details were given as to when the men died or what condition their bodies were found in, except that they appear to have been held captive before their deaths.

Sixty-two Peshmerga are believed to have been taken captive or remain missing in action.

"Neither the Iraqi army nor Hashd al-Shaabi have contacted us, but we are following up on this news," Qaraman Kamal, deputy chief of staff of the Peshmerga, told Rudaw.

"Some of the Peshmerga during the ISIS conflict were killed and their bodies left behind at the battlefield and they are all registered as deaders by the Peshmerga Ministry.

"Another 44, who were taken captive, are registered as captives and we are in continued pursuit of their whereabouts," he added.

Hawija was retaken from ISIS in October 2017.

Turkish teenager who plotted to blow up gay club in Frankfurt arrested
[JPost] The intelligence source confirmed that Erkocoglu also targeted a Catholic church in Frankfurt -- the financial center of Germany.

German police in the state of Hesse tossed in the slammer
You have the right to remain silent...
a teenager in September for plotting an Islamic terror attack on a gay club and church in the city of Frankfurt.

An intelligence source in Germany told The Jerusalem Post on Thursday that the state police "arrested a guy named Yusuf Erkocoglu, a young Ottoman Turkish kid caught planning to blow up a gay club in Frankfurt."

The Post is the first publication to obtain the name of the suspect.

The intelligence source confirmed that Erkocoglu also targeted a Catholic church in Frankfurt -- the financial center of Germany. German media outlets reported that the 17-year-old suspect has both Ottoman Turkish and German citizenship.
No doubt his parents are hard working and reasonably law abiding, like the parents of so many subject to Sudden Jihad Syndrome. The only question is whether he is a petty criminal/known wolf with mental problems or without.
The United States Ambassador to Germany, Richard Grenell, told the Post : "The US will always work with our German Government partners to thwart acts of terror. This case highlights the urgent need to work together."

The US government played a role in preventing Erkocoglu 's suspected attack, according to the intelligence source in Germany.

The Post reached out to the Frankfurt prosecutor's office on Thursday night but the office did not immediately respond.

Frankfurt has seen Islamic-animated terrorism targeting US soldiers. In 2011, Arid Uka, a Kosovan Albanian , told a Frankfurt court that online Islamist propaganda motivated him to murder two US soldiers at the Frankfurt airport.

Arid Uka was convicted of the murders of Nicholas J Alden, 25, from South Carolina, and Zachary R Cuddeback, 21, from Virginia. Uka shot Alden in the back of the head, according to court documents. He then shouted "Allahu Akbar" ‐ Arabic for "God is great" ‐ and shot Cuddeback.

The left-wing German terrorist group Red Army Faction has in the past executed lethal terrorist attacks on US military personnel.

The rise of Islamic terror networks in Germany has created new dangers for Germany, the United States and Jewish and Israeli institutions in the Federal Republic. The Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran commissioned a Pak man to spy on Israeli and Jewish organizations and launch an liquidation plot, according to German media and prosecution documents. A Berlin court sentenced the 31-yearold Pak citizen Mustufa Haidar Syed-Naqfi to four years and three months in prison in 2017 for working for Iran’s intelligence service to spy "against Germany and another NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A collection of multinational and multilingual and multicultural armed forces, all of differing capabilities, working toward a common goal by pulling in different directions...

Iraq
Rival Iraqi factions make coalition deal and end Al-Abadi’s prime minister hopes
[ARABNEWS] Pro-Iran parties in Iraq reached a deal on Thursday to join a parliamentary coalition overseen by anti-Tehran holy man Moqtada Tater al-Sadr
... the Iranian catspaw holy man who was 22 years old in 2003 and was nearing 40 in 2010. He spends most of his time in Iran, safely out of the line of fire, where he's learning to be an ayatollah...
that ends Haider al-Abadi’s hopes of hanging on as prime minister.

The compromise means members of the ruling Shiite Dawa Party will be excluded from competing for the post to lead the next government, negotiators involved in the talks told Arab News.

Al-Abadi, the head of Dawa’s political bureau, who was looking to win a second term, was the biggest loser in the deal. Nuri al-Maliki, the former Iraqi prime minister and head of the State of Law coalition, who was hoping to play a key role in nominating the new head of government also lost out.

Iraqi’s Shiite rivals have been frantically competing to form the largest parliamentary coalition, since elections in May.

Moqtada al-Sadr, one of the most influential Shiite holy mans, whose Sairoon list came first, formed a 154-seat coalition including al-Abadi and his al-Nassir list.

US marines conduct big drills with rebels in southern Syria
[Ynet] A Syrian rebel commander said on Thursday rare military exercises with US marines in southern Syria sent a strong message to Russia and Iran that the Americans and the rebels intend to stay and confront any threats to their presence.

Colonel Muhanad al Talaa, commander of the Pentagon-backed Maghawir al Thawra group, told Rooters the eight days of drills that ended this week at the US military outpost in Tanf were the first such exercises with live-fire air and ground assault, involving hundreds of US troops and rebel fighters.

"These exercises have a big importance and have beefed up the defences of the area and raised the combat capabilities and morale and that of civilians in the area," Talaa told Rooters by phone from Tanf, near Syria's borders with Jordan and Iraq.

#1  Commandos of the Revolution or some such. Presumably non-jihadist, although names have been deceptive. Still, anything with al Shams is probably jihadist, since it's a name for the medieval-era region that incorporates a huge chunk of land, viz:

Scholars today largely agree on the bounds of the Levant, extending from the Antakya region of Turkey, through Syria, Lebanon, Israel/Palestine, Jordan and round to the Sinai Peninsula in Egypt. Some include Cyprus, as well. This coincides exactly with the classical Arab region of Sham.

Man wanted for urinating on flags at veterans cemetery
Massachusetts cops are hunting for a man they say urinated on several American flags at a veterans cemetery ‐ after an "outraged" witness posted pictures of the vile act.

George Gatteny, of Somerville, said he spotted the suspect among a group of people Sunday at a World War II memorial in the Somerville Veterans Cemetery.

"As they approached the statue, I saw them grab the 3 or 4 mini flags that were placed in [front] of the statue," Gatteny wrote on Facebook. "What I saw him do next pushed me to the point where I said to myself, ’ENOUGH.’ The guy started urinating on the flags."

A woman with the man acted as a lookout while he relieved himself, only stopping when Gatteny yelled at him, he said.

"He stopped urinating, pulled up his pants and started walking out of the memorial," the post continued. "Both of them walked up Broadway laughing. I walked behind them for a while telling everyone I pass what they did."

Gatteny said an elderly man who knew two veterans buried at the cemetery thanked him for taking a stand. But Gatteny was determined to get photographs of the couple so they could be held accountable for their actions, he said.

"What possible reason could they have for desecrating a WW2 Memorial??" Gatteny asked. "There are consequences for our actions. They probably thought no would do anything. They were WRONG!"

Gatteny later met with police to provide photos and statements to investigators.

"They are all over this," according to Gatteny’s post, which generated more than 17,000 comments and was shared more than 39,000 times.

Somerville Police Deputy Chief James Stanford told the Boston Globe that detectives were investigating the incident. No additional information was available as of Tuesday and messages from The Post seeking comment on Wednesday were not immediately returned.

The city’s mayor, meanwhile, slammed the act of vandalism as "despicable," according to a statement to the newspaper.

"If these allegations are true, they are offensive not only to our community and our own veterans, but to our entire nation and those who served and continue to serve," Somerville Mayor Joseph Curtatone said.

US blacklists North Korean-controlled firms in China, Russia
[IsraelTimes] The United States is imposing sanctions on two North Korean-controlled information technology companies based in China and Russia.

The Treasury Department announces it’s designating China Silver Star, its North Korean CEO Jong Song Hwa, and its Russia-based sister company.

Treasury Secretary Steve Mnuchin says in a statement that the sanctions are intended to stop the flow of illicit revenue to North Korea from overseas IT workers hiding behind front companies and aliases.

The Trump administration has kept up sanctions pressure on the North, even as the US seeks to negotiate on denuclearization.

Treasury says that China Silver Star is associated with the Munitions Industry Department of North Korea’s ruling party which oversees the nation’s ballistic missile programs.

Caribbean-Latin America
Bolivia is following Venezuela and Nicaragua - and that’s toward totalitarian rule
[MiamiHerald] While the mass exodus of more than 2.3 million Venezuelans and the murder of more than 300 anti-government protesters in Nicaragua are making big headlines, it may be time to pay attention to another country in the region that is also moving rapidly toward totalitarian rule: Bolivia.

Bolivian President Evo Morales announced last week that he will submit to his country’s Congress - where he enjoys a comfortable majority - a “law against lies,” which would penalize news about his government that he doesn’t like.

In several statements in recent weeks, Morales said he will propose a law to “punish liars” in the media and to “moralize” independent news organizations. The Inter-American Press Association has denounced that the proposed law would impose an all-out censorship on the media.

It’s ironic that Morales does even dare to publicly bring up the issue of lying. He has repeatedly promised to retire after finishing his constitutionally-allowed term, only to circumvent the rule of law to re-elect himself several times.

It’s time for the region’s diplomatic community to speak out about the slow-motion coup d’etat that’s taking place in Bolivia before it escalates into a Venezuela or Nicaraguan-style crisis.

Nimroz Identified As Key Human Trafficking Route
[ToloNews] An investigation by TOLOnews has found that every day hundreds of Afghans are leaving the country for Iran through Nimroz province and that they are crossing the border unchecked.

Moslem colonists Migrants fleeing the country this way continue to do so despite the numerous challenges they deal with along the way.

TOLOnews found that the first step is the link up with human traffickers ‐ which takes place in various provinces around the country.

Arabia
Spain will go ahead with arms deal with Saudi Arabia
[ARABNEWS] Spain will go ahead with the sale of 400 laser-guided bombs to Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Foreign Minister Josep Borrell said on Thursday.

"The decision is that these bombs will be delivered to honor a contract that comes from 2015, and was made by the previous government," Borrell told Onda Cero radio.

Several government ministries had worked on the issue for a week and the contract was reviewed three times by a commission that authorizes arms sales, Borrell said, adding, "We found no reason not to carry it out."

Borrell said the laser-guided bombs hit their targets with "extraordinary precision" of within one meter. "This kind of weapon does not produce the same sort of bombing as less sophisticated weapons, launched a bit randomly."

The defense ministry said last month that the current Socialist government, which took power in June, had never sold arms that could be used against a civilian population and would review the criteria used to authorize arms sales.

Secessionists exploit red states' 'deep hatred for California' in bid to exit union
[Wash Times] California secessionists have what may be a tempting proposal for the red states: Help the Golden State secede by voting to kick it out of the union.

Citing a looming court fight over state-splitting, Calexit organizers have postponed their ballot strategy and launched a campaign to convince red-state legislators to vote in favor of telling California to take a hike.

"We are going to rely on the deep hatred for California that exists in red America," said Louis Marinelli, a founder of Yes California, the Calexit campaign.

The plan is to convince 25 of the 31 Republican-held legislatures to pass "consent to secede" resolutions, then place the question before California voters in the form of a ballot measure, instead of vice versa.

Calexit could then "come back to California and tell the people: we have the constitutionally required consent to secede, all we have to do now is vote yes," said Mr. Marinelli in an email.

Depends upon how they present it to Congress and how Congress acts on it. Could be like the partition of Ireland. Let the counties vote which probably will be the coasties north of San Diego along the coast north through the bay area.

But, seriously, you guys don't want to lose San Diego Bay or Alameda in San Francisco Bay because of the impact that would have on your Pacific Fleet. Although it may be tempting to cut us loose, be advised that the next steps would be that you would lose Arizona, New Mexico, Texas and Colorado. Better to secure our border with Mexico as it now stands. The loonies in the coastal enclaves would be nothing without their slaves Mexicans to mow their lawns, wash their cars and clean their homes. Deport the illegals and you may find a few more Republican congress critters coming from California.

Feinstein accuses Kavanaugh of sexual mis-behavior with a girl when in high school
WASHINGTON — The senior Democrat on the Senate Judiciary Committee referred information involving Judge Brett M. Kavanaugh, President Trump’s nominee to the Supreme Court, to federal investigators on Thursday, but the senator declined to make public what the matter involved.

Two officials familiar with the matter say the incident involved possible sexual misconduct between Judge Kavanaugh and a woman when they were both in high school. They spoke anonymously because they were not authorized to discuss the matter.

#9  Explanation of a tragedy

Chuck Schumer was visiting a Washington D.C. primary school and the class was in the middle of a discussion related to words and their meanings.

The teacher asked Mr Schumer if he would like to lead the discussion on the word 'Tragedy'. So Mr Schumer asked the class for an example of a 'Tragedy'

A little boy stood up and offered: 'If my best friend, who lives on a farm, is playing' in the field and a tractor runs over him and kills him, that would be a tragedy.'
'Incorrect,' said Schumer. 'That would be an accident.'

A little girl raised her hand: 'If a school bus carrying fifty children drove over a cliff, killing everybody inside, that would be a tragedy.'

'I'm afraid not',explained Schumer, 'that's what we would refer to as a great loss'.

The room went silent. No other children volunteered. Schumer searched the room.

'Isn't there someone here who can give me an example of a tragedy?'

Finally, at the back of the room, little Johnny raised his hand and said: 'If a plane carrying you, Mrs. Feinstein, and Mrs. Pelosi, the Obama’s and Mrs. Clinton was struck by a 'friendly fire' missile & blown to smithereens, that would be a tragedy.'

'Fantastic' exclaimed Schumer, 'and can you tell me why that would be a tragedy?'

'Well', said Johnny, 'it has to be a tragedy, because it certainly wouldn't be a great loss, and it probably wouldn't be a f**king accident either!'

#13  The Guardian has a scoop on the letter and yes, it is even dumber than we thought it would be:

A source who said they were briefed on the contents of the letter said it described an incident involving Kavanaugh and a woman that took place when both were 17 years old and at a party. According to the source, Kavanaugh and a male friend had locked her in a room against her will, making her feel threatened, but she was able to get out of the room. The Guardian has not verified the apparent claims in the letter. It is not yet clear who wrote it.

If true, then that means we have really hit rock bottom on how partisan and pathetic that these proceedings are.

No more public hearings and no cameras in the future. Will stop a lot of this bullshit.

This describes a classic bar exam kidnapping (see e.g., Justia's description). Feinstein doesn't expect this to delay Kavanaugh's confirmation, she expects Democrats to utilize it at a later time as a basis for his impeachment and removal.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Israel reopens sole Gaza crossing for people after punitive closure
[IsraelTimes] Israel reopened the Erez border crossing on Thursday, the only crossing for people between Israel and the Gazoo Strip, more than a week after shutting it following a Paleostinian protest that damaged the site.

The reopening follows several days of relative calm, as Egyptian and UN officials attempt to broker a long-term truce between Israel and Gazoo’s terrorist Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede, rulers.

A spokeswoman for the Defense Ministry unit that oversees the Erez crossing confirmed it had reopened on Thursday.

On September 5, the army said that hundreds of "rioters" had vandalized the Gazoo side of the crossing, and that it would remain closed until the damage was repaired. It later said that it would extend the closure until Thursday as a punitive measure.

An average of around 1,000 Gazooks cross through Erez each day, mostly those in need of medical care but also businesspeople, students and others, Israeli authorities say.

A second crossing with Israel, Kerem Shalom, is for goods only.

Two Thai rangers gunned down in Pattani ambush
[Bangkok Post] Two paramilitary rangers on patrol were killed and four others injured when they were ambushed in Pattani province on Tuesday night.

The six men were on patrol in Nong Chik district on three motorcycles when gunmen hiding in bushes along the roadside opened fire, killing two servicemen instantly. The other four were injured and rushed to the hospital. It remains unclear how many attackers were involved and what types of firearms they used. The investigation is continuing.

"We suspect it was the work of the same local group who are active in this district," Military spokesman Pramote Prom-in said in an apparent reference to a band of local militants.

"They want to create a situation to incite unrest."

A local source said one of the slain rangers, Suchart, had been injured before, in a bombing in the far South on January 10. He was hit in the head by shrapnel, but he later fully recovered.
