Report: Israel secretly armed, funded Syrian rebels
[IsraelNationalNews] Israel has been secretly backing 12 different rebel groups fighting the Assad regime in southern Syria, Foreign Policy magazine claimed in an exclusive report Thursday, providing both weapons and money in an effort to combat both the ISIS terror group and Iranian-backed forces in the area.

According to the Foreign Policy report Thursday which cited anti-regime groups in Syria, Israel furnished arms and equipment for 12 different rebel groups in southern Syria, including transfers of machine guns and assault rifles, mortar launchers, and transport vehicles.

Sweden to build Holocaust museum in Malmo
[IsraelNationalNews] Sweden has plans to launch a Holocaust museum with a focus on Holocaust survivors from the Scandinavian country and a center devoted to the diplomat Raoul Wallenberg.

Announcing the decision to create the museum, Swedish Minister of Social Affairs and Sports Minister Annika Strandhall‏ said Tuesday on Twitter that the news "feels more important than ever."

The museum is likely to be built in Malmo, a city of approximately 350,000 where dozens of anti-Semitic incidents are recorded annually. It is tentatively slated to be ready to open in 2020, the Dagen news website reported.

Sloppy redaction shows large deposit into candidate's account. Reason: Pay the bills.
h/t Instapundit
When Tallahassee Mayor Andrew Gillum released some records Tuesday related to two trips he took with a lobbyist in 2016, he was trying to clear the air around an FBI investigation that has clouded his campaign since before he became the Democratic nominee for Florida governor.

But the campaign, which uploaded several documents after Gillum met with a state ethics investigator Tuesday, released a poorly redacted printout of his bank statement among some invoices and receipts for Gillum’s trips to New York City and Costa Rica that year. The bank statement included a $15,000 deposit into his personal checking account. On the same page and not redacted was an entry showing a $400 cash withdrawal that the campaign says was cash used to pay for lodging in Costa Rica.

-Short Attention Span Theater-
Cranberries star Dolores O'Riordan cause of death released
Cranberries singer Dolores O'Riordan accidentally drowned in the bath after a night of heavy drinking alone in her hotel room, an inquest heard today.

The Irish singer was found 'face up in the bath dressed in her pyjamas' fully-clothed in the bath of her room at London's Hilton Park Lane on January 15.

The 46-year-old mother-of-three from Kilmallock, County Limerick, who had battled alcoholism, had drunk spirits and champagne and was four times over the legal drinking limit when she died.

Her inquest was held today at Westminster Coroner's Court on what would have been her 47th birthday. There was no evidence or self-harm and no suicide note in her room.

The inquest heard that there were empty bottles in the room - five miniature bottles and a bottle of champagne.
That and some Lorazepam. Bummer.

And if anyone makes any "berried" jokes, the ghost of Pappy will come back to smite you.

China-Japan-Koreas
Beijing's Censorship Push Failing as Xi Jinping's Incompetence Becomes Focus of Protests
Communist Party leader Xi Jinping has carefully crafted an image of himself as a big-picture visionary, tasked with turning China into the world’s preeminent superpower. While Xi has focused on taking over the world, however, the average Chinese citizen appears increasingly frustrated with his inability to provide competent government functions like adequate education and health care.
The result has been a wave of unprecedented public protests against Xi’s party, which has promised to bring all of China into a "new era" as a "moderately prosperous society." From angry parents whose children received faulty vaccinations to Maoists outraged that a communist government would stand in the way of worker unionization, the outrage is coming from communities that Beijing once considered safely tamed, not the typical crowd of political dissidents and human rights activists.

Within the past week, Xi’s regime has had to contend with two major protests ‐ one by parents in Leiyang, Hunan, who hurled bricks at police when they found out they were going to be forced to pay for private schooling because of a lack of government resources ‐ and a protest that wasn’t in Shenzhen, Guangdong, where police arrested and broke up a coalition of Maoist students uniting in defense of laborers’ union rights.

#4  Xi spent too much time inside the Beijing bubble and not enough time taking care of business among the people.

However the CPC isn't in any danger of falling. The Western media loves to play up these protest stories but most people are either content or know that they don't have a voice. Plus these days the CPC has put transponders in every car and scooter, has the entire population's facial recognition data, and has spent the last 12 months furiously installing cameras in every public place. People can't gather and organize to overthrow the regime. It is simply impossible. Any large gatherings will be detected and broken up.

Britain
British Navy HMS Albion sails near South China Sea islands, angering Beijing
(Reuters) - Beijing expressed anger on Thursday after a British Royal Navy warship sailed close to islands claimed by China in the South China Sea late last month, saying Britain was engaged in "provocation" and that it had lodged a strong complaint.

The HMS Albion, a 22,000 ton amphibious warship carrying a contingent of Royal Marines, exercised its "freedom of navigation" rights as it passed near the Paracel Islands, two sources, who were familiar with the matter but who asked not to be identified, told Reuters.

The Albion was on its way to Ho Chi Minh City, where it docked on Monday following a deployment in and around Japan.

One of the sources said Beijing dispatched a frigate and two helicopters to challenge the British vessel, but both sides remained calm during the encounter.

The other source the Albion did not enter the territorial seas around any features in the hotly disputed region but demonstrated that Britain does not recognize excessive maritime claims around the Paracel Islands. Twelve nautical miles is an internationally recognized territorial limit.

The Paracels are occupied entirely by China but also claimed by Vietnam and Taiwan.

North Korea's Kim sets denuclearization time line, prompting thanks from Trump
SEOUL/WASHINGTON (Reuters) - North Korea’s Kim Jong Un has given his first time line for denuclearization, aiming for the end of U.S. President Donald Trump’s first term, Seoul officials said on Thursday, prompting thanks from Trump who said they would "get it done together".

Kim and South Korean President Moon Jae-in will also meet in Pyongyang on Sept. 18-20 for a third summit and discuss "practical measures" toward denuclearization, Moon’s national security adviser, Chung Eui-yong, said a day after meeting Kim.

The summit could provide renewed momentum to talks over denuclearization between North Korea and the United States, after Trump canceled a visit to Pyongyang by Secretary of State Mike Pompeo last month citing lack of progress.

Kim told South Korean officials his faith in Trump was "unchanged" and that he wanted denuclearization and an end to hostile relations with the United States before Trump’s first term in office ends in early 2021, Chung said.

"He particularly emphasized that he has never said anything negative about President Trump," Chung said.

Trump welcomed Kim’s remarks in a trademark Tweet.

FTC, states, target bogus veterans' charities in new crackdown: 'It's war profiteering'
Generous Americans give more than $2.5 billion a year to some 40,000 charities with missions designed to help veterans.

Lately, however, this crowded field has been inundated by fraud, according to the Federal Trade Commission.

The FTC launched Operation Donate with Honor in July to spotlight the problem of fraudulent and deceptive fundraising on behalf of military and veterans’ causes.

"It’s war profiteering," Joshua Starks, commander of the 300,000-strong Oklahoma Veterans of Foreign Wars told Fox News. "They’re stealing from people who raised their hand and took an oath to serve our country and then went overseas to protect the rights of all of us--including the people who are stealing from them."

As part of Operation Donate with Honor, the FTC distributed a list of 102 law enforcement actions 34 states have lodged against bogus veterans’ charities. Some are recent. Others are newly filed. The FTC is a partner in two of the new cases.

The list laid bare the many ways these groups solicit donations‐online, on the phone, by mail, door-to-door and at stores and supermarkets.

Officials said these legal actions share a common theme: the false promise to help needy and disabled vets, to provide veterans with employment counseling, mental health counseling or other assistance and to send care packages to deployed service members.

In many cases, the lion’s share of each dollar donated was paid to telemarketers instead of veterans. In some cases these telemarketers charged a fee of 85 cents of every dollar.

One charity that is named is Help the Vets.

Donors contributed $20 million to the Florida charity from 2013 to 2017. But the charity spent few of the dollars that were collected to assist veterans, the FTC said.

"Help the Vets spent more than 95% of the millions it collected paying its founder, fundraisers, and on expenses," FTC Chairman Joe Simons said.

The charity swindled donors through shameless solicitations, according to a lawsuit the FTC filed to coincide with the kick-off of Operation Donate with Honor.

"But for thousands of disabled veterans who served in Iraq and Afghanistan, ’giving an arm and a leg’ isn't simply a figure of speech- it's a harsh reality," says one Help the Vets solicitation. "Your $10 gift will mean so much to a disabled veteran."

However, Help the Vets’ assistance to these unfortunate veterans consisted of vouchers for chiropractic treatment at a clinic, the FTC charged. Only five vouchers were ever redeemed.

Europe
Migration 'mother of all political problems,' says German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer
[DW] The German minister has claimed migration is at the heart of society's disillusionment with politics. Chancellor Angela Merkel, however, said she would have put it a bit differently and called migration a "challenge."

German Interior Minister Horst Seehofer, head of the CSU, the conservative sister party of Chancellor Angela Merkel, has said that migration was the "mother of all political problems" in Germany and one of the principal reasons for waning support for the established parties, German media report.

"Many people now associate their social problems with the issue of migration," he told the Rheinische Post, adding that if Germany didn't change its migration policy major political parties would continue losing ground. He went on to link the "order of humanity" with balancing the political concerns of migrants and Germans.

Merkel: That's not how I'd put it

Merkel, however, said she would put it differently than her interior minister.

"I say that the question of migration poses challenges," she said in an interview with RTL television, adding that there are problems and success that come with the challenges of migration.

Trump thanks Kim Jong Un for his 'unwavering trust'
[Wash Examiner] President Trump on Thursday thanked North Korean leader Kim Jong Un for saying he has "unwavering trust in Donald Trump" after a bilateral meeting between North and South Korea.

"This trust, despite some difficulties surfaced during the negotiation process between the US and the North, will continue," South Korean special envoy Chung Eun-young said, according to Yahoo News.

Kim and Chung met in Pyongyang Wednesday to arrange a new leaders' summit later this month. According to the BBC, the North Korean leader told Seoul officials that he wants to denuclearize the Korean Peninsula during Trump’s first term.

Trump thanked Kim for his words, and confirmed that he is committed to working toward denuclearization of the peninsula.

"Kim Jong Un of North Korea proclaims 'unwavering faith in President Trump.' Thank you to Chairman Kim. We will get it done together!" Trump tweeted Thursday morning.

The Supreme Court's days as a super-legislature are over, and Democrats aren't happy about it
[Wash Examiner] On Day Two of Judge Brett Kavanaugh’s Supreme Court confirmation hearings, a number of Democrats on the Senate Judiciary Committee appeared to be sizing themselves up for black judicial robes.

If they weren’t doing that, they were lamenting the fact that someone of their own great wisdom couldn’t sit on the Supreme Court ‐ the highest legislature in the land, they seem to think ‐ and rule the country from their lifetime position.

Democrats placed themselves one after another into Kavanaugh’s seat on the District of Columbia Circuit Court of Appeals to second-guess rulings, which is only natural for those who think the courts are there to make policy decisions. Ranking Democrat Dianne Feinstein, D-Calif., complained that Kavanaugh had, in an opinion on D.C. gun control laws, deemed that semi-automatic rifles are in "common use" and thus not, under Supreme Court definition, something the D.C. government could ban. Feinstein was weirdly outraged about this characterization, given that private citizens in the U.S. own something on the order of 50 or 60 million such rifles, and possibly more.

Sen. Dick "Dick" Durbin, D-Ill., complained that Kavanaugh had dissented from an emergency ruling that ended up rushing a minor migrant girl in the care of the U.S. government off to get an abortion without parental consent. Durbin also complained about Kavanaugh’s interpretation of a complicated Supreme Court case that had deemed illegal immigrant workers unable to vote in workplace unionization elections.

For Sen. Amy Klobuchar, D-Minn., the problem was that Kavanaugh had written an opinion favoring two mergers in the grocery and health insurance industries.

All these opinions about Kavanaugh’s rulings have one thing in common: They come from politicians who seem to think judging is a lot like what they do for a living. But judges don’t make policy, and the Supreme Court is not a super-legislature. That’s why a good judge who decides cases based on law and precedent will not like all the outcomes of the cases he hears.

#1  Sen. Dick Durbin, D-Ill., complained that Kavanaugh had dissented from an emergency ruling that ended up rushing a minor migrant girl in the care of the U.S. government off to get an abortion without parental consent. Durbin also complained about Kavanaugh’s interpretation of a complicated Supreme Court case that had deemed illegal immigrant workers unable to vote in workplace unionization elections.

His first name is appropriate.

#2  They DO think that legislating from the bench is what the Supreme Court does. After all, when you can't get things done democratically, you resort to the courts. Judges make political decisions and work backwards to justify them.

Coming to an end, though, and don't expect them to like it one bit.

#3  Yep. Several federal circuits have been filled with non-legislative judges as well. Trump gets two terms and you can expect the most liberal circuits to get flipped as well.

The left knows that it is the Supreme Court where the buck stops and Trump is ending that dream as well. If any libtard judges go down in the next 2 years expect full revolt and violence to keep the seats from being filled with a non-legislative judge.

The Road to Las Ramblas: The Man Behind the Barcelona Attacks Was on Police Radar for Years. How Did They Let It Happen?
[The Intercept] NOBODY WANTS TO talk about Abdelbaki Es Satty. When pressed, those who knew him call him "evil" and "savage" and a disgrace to the communities he’s lived in. Some of his neighbors are just surprised that the imam next door was capable of masterminding an attack. But most of his acquaintances from recent years didn’t know his past: that he’d been investigated and had his phone tapped in one of the largest international terrorism cases in Spanish history; that he had two smuggling convictions and had spent four years in prison. Despite all that, he was able to live under the radar while he organized the most deadly terrorist attack in Spain since the 2004 Madrid train bombings.

The Spanish government especially does not want to talk about Es Satty. The investigation into his case is sealed by a judge. Spanish police won’t offer much comment on the case, nor will police for the region of Catalonia, of which Barcelona is the capital. The director of Spain’s intelligence agency ‐ referred to as the CNI, for its initials in Spanish ‐ has given one closed-door briefing on Es Satty in the Spanish Parliament, and did so only after politicians began calling for a public investigation.

And so, over a year after the attack, the public has been provided few answers as to how Es Satty was able to convince a group of young men to kill and injure innocent people on a mass scale ‐ and how he evaded police attention while doing so.
Lengthy, but revealing.

Carlson: We Have a Good Idea Who Wrote the Anonymous NYT Op-Ed (video)
[NTK Network] Fox News host Tucker Carlson started his show Wednesday night claiming he had a "pretty good idea who wrote" the controversial anonymous New York Times op-ed and added that representatives from his show had called the White House for comment.

Earlier in the day, The New York Times published an anonymous op-ed that was allegedly written by a "senior official in the Trump administration."

According to the op-ed’s anonymous author, "there were early whispers within the cabinet of invoking the 25th Amendment," against President Trump because of the "instability" many witnessed.

"We think we’ve got a pretty good idea who wrote this piece. We’ve called the White House for comment on it tonight. But until we confirm the identity, of course, we’re not going to accuse anybody in public," Carlson said.

Woodward's book: Who you going to believe? I'll stick with Mattis and Kelly

We need a ‘German Islam,' says interior ministry
h/t Gates of Vienna
Germany will tighten control over foreign influence of its Muslim community, State Secretary for the Interior Ministry Markus Kerber said Monday, after a week of violent far-right clashes in eastern Germany.

"We have watched foreign forces dictate to German Muslims how to practice their religion for far too long," Kerber told Tagesspiegel in an interview published Monday. "And because they also have their home here, we will now lend them more support in strengthening their self-confidence."

"We want to create more discussion formats for German Muslims," Kerber added. "The minister will also actively encourage German Muslims to conduct a debate on a German Islam."

I Really Don't Feel Like Submitting To Socialist Tyranny. Do You?
Socialism’s legacy is heaps of bloody corpses scattered across a landscape of hunger and despair, but the youthful neo-commie hipsters infesting our colleges and coastal cities want to give it another try here and now since they’re smart and they won’t screw it up this time. Uh huh. Because when I look at millennials, I see a generation of achievers ‐ achieving unbroken eye contact with their iPhones, achieving hitherto unimagined heights of undeserved self-regard, and achieving convincing their parents to support them into middle age. If anyone can make socialism work ‐ by which I mean the pipe dream of it not being a slaughterhouse of soul crushing tyranny ‐ it’s these winners. At least that’s what Chet thinks.

Lie Down With The Enemy, Get Up Without The Presidency
[Mercer - March 2017 article] Donald Trump is making a HUGE mistake that could cost him the midterms and/or make him a one-term president. He thinks he can defang the snakes he has gathered around him in the administration. President Trump has hired individuals who do not articulate the principles he ran on and jump at every opportunity to stick it to him.

"Hiring different perspectives in business could well be a strength. But it’s not a strength when it comes to politics and policy. In politics, you want a team that shares a political philosophy."

The main mamba is Paul Ryan, much loved and admired by MSNBC (see: "An Ode To Paul Ryan By MSNBC’s Left-Liberal Lawrence O’Donnell"), CNN and most liberal media. The GOP news media love Ryan, too, but are scared to come out as fans lest Trump Nation retaliate.

Like Pavlov’s dog, Ryan, the Damien look alike (I’m only ever referencing the old, excellent, 1970s-19802 Omen/Damien movies; there is no other, as far as I’m concerned) can’t but appear to please the CNN interviewer while making the president look bad. (See: "Ryan: I’ve seen no evidence wiretap occurred.")

Poor Damien, purr CNN’s empaneled women. The lovely, wonkish young Ryan [despised by Trump Nation] would rather legislate than have to defend The Donald.

Idlib excitements: Syrian Army, build up, Russian and Syrian army air strikes, rebels shoot missiles at Syrian positions
Syrian Army sends more reinforcements to Idlib for major offensive

[AlMasdar] Massive reinforcements were seen heading to the northern Syria as the Syrian military amasses forces for the upcoming assault on Idlib.

The recent convoy, which belongs to the 1st Armored Division, consists of dozens of tanks, BMPs, armored vehicles, as well as more than 1000 soldiers.

The long-awaited attack on the jihadi-held province will be spearheaded by the elite Tiger Forces with great support from the Russian air force.

While no ground invasion has yet been initiated, non-stop artillery and rocket shelling – as well as precise airstrikes – are being conducted on a daily basis to undermine the military capabilities of jihadi groups.

Four Russian warplanes Hit Nusra Front Positions in Syria’s Idlib Province – MoD

[AlMasdar] On Tuesday night, Russia’s Hmeymim Airbase in Syria destroyed two terrorist drones with surface-to-air missiles, Russian Defense Ministry spokesman Maj. Gen. Igor Konashenkov said.

“On the 4th of September, at night, the anti-aircraft weapons of Hmeimim Airbase destroyed two terrorist assault UAVs. In total, last month, 47 terrorist unmanned aerial vehicles were destroyed… in the area of Russia’s Hmeimim Airbase,” Konashenkov told reporters.

“On the same day [September 4], four planes from the Russian air unit deployed at the Hmeymim Airbase carried out strikes on Nusra Front* terrorist group targets in Idlib province with precision-guided munitions,” Konashenkov said.

According to the spokesman, the strikes were carried out on the terrorists’ storage facilities where they kept drones, located outside settlements, as well as “detected sites where assault drones were launched to carry out terrorist attacks on Russia’s Hmeimim Airbase and settlements in the provinces of Aleppo and Hama.”

“The Russian aircraft carried out all strikes solely on the identified terrorist targets, as confirmed through several channels, located far from settlements,” Konashenkov said.

He added that two Su-34 jets had also destroyed a workshop where terrorists assembled drones and a warehouse of explosives for them.Konashenkov noted that the multipurpose Su-35S fighter, equipped with high-precision ammunition, also destroyed a warehouse in which the man-portable air defense systems (MANPADS) of terrorists were stored.

Russia, alongside Iran and Turkey, is a guarantor of the ceasefire in Syria. Moscow has also been assisting Damascus both through supporting the struggle against terrorist groups and providing humanitarian aid to the residents of the crisis-torn country.

Syrian, Russian jets unleash several airstrikes over southwest Idlib after jihadists target resort town

[AlMasdar] The Syrian and Russian air forces unleashed flurry of airstrikes in northern Syria tonight after the jihadist rebels targeted a resort town in the Latakia province.

According to a military source in Latakia, the jihadist rebels fired several rockets towards the civilian neighborhoods in the resort town of Slunfeh on Wednesday afternoon.

While no one was hurt, local activists did report material damage to a number of buildings in the town.

In response to this attack by the jihadist rebels, Syrian and Russian air forces conducted a plethora of airstrikes over the Jisr Al-Shughour District in the province of Idlib.

The Russian reconciliation center has repeatedly warned the jihadist rebels against targeting these towns in western and northern Syria.

Jihadist rebels attack Syrian Army stronghold near southwest Idlib (video)

[AlMasdar] On Tuesday, the Russian Air Force carried out a large number of airstrikes against the jihadist rebels in the Northwestern provinces of Syria.

Using their Sukhoi jets, the Russian Air Force hammered the jihadist rebels with airstrike after airstrike in order to weaken their resolve in northwestern Syria.

In response to the Russian attack, the jihadist rebels unleashed flurry of missiles towards the Syrian government stronghold of Joureen in the Al-Ghaab Plain this evening.

According to a military source, the jihadist missiles that targeted Joureen missed the Syrian army’s positions and hit the surrounding farms.

The Syrian Army then retaliated by firing several ground to ground missiles at the jihadist defenses in the area.

Missouri Auctuioneer Congressman Shuts Down Kavanough House Hearing Protester
[Dailly Caller] A protester interrupted a hearing on social media censorship in the House of Representatives Wednesday by standing up and shouting about Twitter and President Trump.

The woman shouted over Twitter CEO Jack Dorsey, who was testifying about censoring conservatives and other political voices on the platform, as well as congressmen and others testifying, while she filmed herself. The chairman of the committee, Rep. Greg Walden, called for police to remove the protester. But one member of congress had another idea.

Missouri Congressman Billy Long, who also happens to be a former auctioneer, began spitting fire, giving a fast-talking auction and pointing at the audience. When the protester was finally removed and Long finished his expertly delivered auction, the audience erupted in applause.

5 Takeaways From The Circus Democrats Made Of Brett Kavanaugh's SCOTUS Hearing
[The Federalist] After a summer of anticipation and agitation, the confirmation hearing for Supreme Court nominee Brett Kavanaugh began yesterday. As has been typical for the last several decades, this Supreme Court hearing was even more rancorous than the last. Here’s what we learned from the first day’s events.

1. Protesters Are Clueless

Judiciary Committee Chairman Chuck Grassley called the meeting to order in the morning, but had hardly begun when loyal members of the Trump resistance showed that, as usual, they have no idea of how to behave in public. Reenacting the customs of social media in real life, they screamed, yelled, and stomped their feet even before Grassley and the other senators had a chance to say anything to which they might object.

Their quickness to act gave the game away: these protestors did not object to the content of the hearings, but to the hearings themselves.

It is unclear what they hoped to accomplish, but that is not unheard of among protesters, right or left. Since the 2016 election, opponents of the president and his agenda have excelled at making loud noises and wearing silly costumes, yet once the cosplay elements are stripped away, the concrete steps they demand are maddeningly unclear. Their agitprop, while no doubt gratifying to themselves, will never convert an opponent and might only repel an undecided observer.

Perhaps it is just a sign of the times. For all of the complaints about President Trump’s lack of decorum, the average denizen of the far left has always been less decorous than his counterpart on the right. Should we now expect the loutish manners of social media to bleed into all areas of civic life?

Things may well get worse in this regard before they get better. In any case, about two dozen protesters made enough sound and fury to get themselves removed and arrested. The atmosphere got so heated that Kavanaugh’s children had to be escorted out of the room.
Four additional 'takeaways' follow:

Syrian sappers ready to demine DMZ between Syria and Israel
[AlMasdar] Syrian bomb disposal engineers trained by Russian military experts are ready to start demining territory in the demilitarized zone near the Golan Heights on the border between Syria and Israel after its liberation from Death Eaters, Deputy Commander of the Russian Contingent in Syria Lieutenant-General Sergei Kuralenko said on Wednesday.

"The Syrian Armed Forces’ sappers are ready for work to demine terrain and roads in the demilitarized zone, which will guarantee the security of the UN convoys along the patrol routes," he said.

Kuralenko added that Russian military servicemen will provide assistance in maintaining security during the Syrian sappers’ work in the region.

GOLAN HEIGHTS ISSUE
The Golan Heights had been part of Syria since 1944, but the territory was seized by Israel during the 1967 Six-Day War. In 1981, the Israeli parliament, the Knesset, passed a law on the Golan Heights, which unilaterally proclaimed Israel’s illusory sovereignty over that territory. The annexation was deemed illegal under UN Security Council Resolution 497 of December 17, 1981.

Later on, part of the territory and the town of Quneitra were returned to Syria on the condition that the territory will be demilitarized and a UN mission will be deployed there.

According to earlier reports, a UN mission, accompanied by the Russian military police, entered the region from the territory of Syria for the first time since the start of the Syrian conflict. Prior to that, UN forces headquartered in the capital Damascus had to enter the area via the Lebanese border, because the Syrian part of the demilitarized zone was held by Death Eaters.

Jihadists hit town resort in Latakia with rockets
[AlMasdar] Two homegrown rockets went kaboom! in Slinfah town in northeast Latakia as a result of a rocket attack launched by jihadi rebels in neighboring Idlib.

Jihadi groups in Idlib said they shelled the town in retaliation of the intense Arclight airstrikes conducted yesterday by Russian fighter jets against rebel positions in Jisr al-Shughur.

The Russian aerial bombardment came to avenge the repeated drone attacks against its forces in Hmeimim air base.

The coastal base has been frequently assaulted by armed drones operated by jihadi groups in Idlib and northern Hama.

Iran says it will go beyond previous enrichment if nuclear deal fails
[IsraelTimes] Spokesperson for atomic agency says Tehran’s program ’considerably more advanced’ than when 2015 accord was signed
Exactly the reason why Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump said the”deal”was pointless.
Iran will begin uranium enrichment beyond previous levels if the remaining parties fail to uphold the 2015 nuclear deal, its Atomic Energy Organization told local media on Wednesday.

"We will not return to previous levels if our counterparts leave the JCPOA (nuclear deal), but will instead reach even more advanced levels," the organization’s front man Behrouz Kamalvandi said, quoted by state broadcaster IRIB.

"We are at a considerably more advanced status than when we signed the deal. The country is moving ahead in nuclear activities at a favorable pace," he added.

Iran has repeatedly said it will resume high-level uranium enrichment if the 2015 agreement ‐ which limits its nuclear program in return for sanctions relief ‐ falls apart.

Following the withdrawal of the United States in May, the other parties ‐ Britannia, La Belle France, Germany, China, Russia and the EU ‐ have vowed to provide Iran with enough economic benefits to keep the agreement alive.

But Tehran is increasingly skeptical that those countries can counter the effects of renewed US sanctions, which have already battered Iran’s economy.

Last week, supreme leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei said Iran should be ready to "set aside" the agreement if it is no longer in the country’s national interests.

The ineffective International Atomic Energy Agency has repeatedly stated that Iran is sticking to its commitments.

The administration of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
says the deal did not prevent Iran from eventually working towards a nuclear weapon ‐ which Tehran has denied it is seeking.

Nuclear Selfies

[IsraelTimes] Yedioth Ahronoth’s Ronen Bergman reveals yet more details about the Israeli raid to steal Iran’s nuclear archive and what’s in it: selfies.

"The Iranians documented everything: the equipment, the building of factories and secret sites and even themselves during tests, with entertaining selfie photographs."

Bergman writes that the documents point to IRGC officer and physicist Mohsen Fakhrizadeh-Mahabadi as the brains behind the nuclear program.

"According to foreign reports, he was a preferred target for Israeli intel gathering and the idea of harming him was even considered. It didn’t happen and now it seems there are those who are sorry about the decision to let him get away with his life," he writes.

Home Front: Politix
This Is a Constitutional Crisis
A love letter from a faux conservative (David Frum) to whomever wrote the NY Times article about Trump.
The Ovoid David Frum
[Atlantic] Impeachment is a constitutional mechanism. The Twenty-Fifth Amendment is a constitutional mechanism. Mass resignations followed by voluntary testimony to congressional committees are a constitutional mechanism. Overt defiance of presidential authority by the president’s own appointees—now that’s a constitutional crisis.

If the president’s closest advisers believe that he is morally and intellectually unfit for his high office, they have a duty to do their utmost to remove him from it, by the lawful means at hand. That duty may be risky to their careers in government or afterward. But on their first day at work, they swore an oath to defend the Constitution—and there were no “riskiness” exemptions in the text of that oath.
As far as I can tell everything Trump has done has affected the government. There's no crisis except among those in government, and their supporters.
On Wednesday, though, a “senior official in the Trump administration” published an anonymous op-ed in The New York Times, writing:

Many of the senior officials in his own administration are working diligently from within to frustrate parts of his agenda and his worst inclinations. I would know. I am one of them.

The author of the anonymous op-ed is hoping to vindicate the reputation of like-minded senior Trump staffers. See, we only look complicit! Actually, we’re the real heroes of the story.

But what the author has just done is throw the government of the United States into even more dangerous turmoil. He or she has enflamed the paranoia of the president and empowered the president’s willfulness.

What happens the next time a staffer seeks to dissuade the president from, say, purging the Justice Department to shut down the Mueller investigation? The author of the Times op-ed has explicitly told the president that those who offer such advice do not have the president’s best interests at heart, and are, in fact, actively subverting his best interests as he understands them on behalf of ideas of their own.
The subtext is that Trump's advisers have told him to fire AG Sessions, which In my opinion he should have done. But these all are political acts, so shutting down a bogus "investigation", steeped in political maneuvering by Trumps' political opponents, will require a political end.
He’ll grow more defiant, more reckless, more anti-constitutional, and more dangerous.

And those who do not quit or are not fired in the next few days will have to work even more assiduously to prove themselves loyal, obedient, and on the team. Things will be worse after this piece. They will be worse because of this piece.

The new Bob Woodward book set the bad precedent. The high official who thought the president so addled that he would not remember the paper he snatched off his desk? Those who thought the president stupid, ignorant, beholden to Russia—and then exited the administration to return to their comfortable, lucrative occupations? Who substituted deep-background gripe sessions with a reporter for offering detailed proof of presidential unfitness, or worse, before the House or Senate? Yes, better than the robotic servility of the public record. But only slightly.
In other words, White House documents being drafted for the purposes of posterity won't show what Frum contends. Frum is hedging his words even in this screed.
Speak in your own name. Resign in a way that will count. Present the evidence that will justify an invocation of the Twenty-Fifth Amendment, or an impeachment, or at the very least, the first necessary step toward either outcome, a Democratic Congress after the November elections.

Your service in government is valuable. Thank you for it. But it is not so indispensable that it can compensate for the continuing tenure of a president you believe to be amoral, untruthful, irrational, anti-democratic, unpatriotic, and dangerous. Previous generations of Americans have sacrificed fortunes, health, and lives to serve the country. You are asked only to tell the truth aloud and with your name attached.

White House livid over op-ed by unnamed insider; Trump questions if ‘treasonous’

[IsraelTimes] The essay immediately triggered a wild guessing game as to the author’s identity on social media, in newsrooms and inside the West Wing, where officials were blindsided by its publication.

And in a blistering statement, press secretary Sarah Huckabee Sanders accused the author of choosing to “deceive” the president by remaining in the administration.

“He is not putting country first, but putting himself and his ego ahead of the will of the American people,” she said. “The coward should do the right thing and resign.”

Sanders also called on the Times to “issue an apology” for publishing the piece, calling it a “pathetic, reckless, and selfish op-ed.”

#1  White House livid over op-ed by unnamed insider; Trump questions if ‘treasonous’

The Left has been loose with the word for months and no one in their cabal has reigned them in. Another aspect of destroying the language. They also failed to notice how many other torpedoes they've fired at Trump seem to come back and hit them. So, the Left expands the definition of treason, then pearl clutches when its used about them.

Personally, I'd rather use the terms sedition and insurrection*, but I'm not the one altering the language. Let those who are, live with the consequences.

* No person shall be a Senator or Representative in Congress, or elector of President and Vice President, or hold any office, civil or military, under the United States, or under any state, who, having previously taken an oath, as a member of Congress, or as an officer of the United States, or as a member of any state legislature, or as an executive or judicial officer of any state, to support the Constitution of the United States, shall have engaged in insurrection or rebellion against the same, or given aid or comfort to the enemies thereof. - 14th Amendment

Israel shutters Gaza pedestrian crossing after border clashes
[IsraelTimes] Army says Erez to remain closed until damage by Paleostinian rioters is repaired; humanitarian cases to be approved on case-by-case basis

Israel announced the temporary closure of its sole pedestrian crossing with the Gazoo Strip on Wednesday after the border terminal was damaged during festivities between Israeli troops and Paleostinians.

Hundreds of Paleostinians took part in a violent riot at the Erez Crossing on Tuesday, according to the Israel Defense Forces, during which infrastructure on the Paleostinian side of the crossing was damaged by rioters.

"As a result, the crossing has been closed until the repairing of the damage caused as a result of the riot is completed," the army said in a statement.

It did not indicate when the repairs would be completed.

The army added that the closure does not include humanitarian cases, which it said would be approved on a case-by-case basis.

An average of around 1,000 Gazooks cross through Erez each day, mostly those in need of medical care but also businesspeople, students, and others, Israeli authorities say.

A second crossing with Israel, Kerem Shalom, is used for transporting goods. It was reopened by Israel on August 15 after it was closed on July 9 to everything but food and medical equipment, following weeks of violence along the border, including arson attacks.

The announcement Wednesday comes after the Erez Crossing was shuttered by Israel for a week last month in response to violence along the border with the Hamas, one of the armed feet of the Moslem Brüderbung millipede,-run enclave.

During Tuesday’s riot at Erez, several Paleostinians were maimed by Israeli fire, Gazoo’s Hamas-run Health Ministry said. The IDF said Paleostinians hurled rocks at the crossing in the Strip’s north and damaged infrastructure, prompting troops to respond with tear gas and live fire.

Such protests are rare at Erez, the only terminal for travel into Israel or the West Bank from Gazoo.

The violent protest broke several days of calm, which came after understandings were reportedly reached between Israel and Hamas.

Khalilzad tasked with bringing Taliban, Kabul to negotiating table
[Dawn] Former US ambassador to Afghanistan Zalmay Khalilzad would join the State Department as an adviser on Afghanistan, US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo said during his flight to Islamabad on Wednesday.

"Ambassador Khalilzad is going to join the State Department team to assist us in the reconciliation effort; so he will come on and be the State Department’s lead person for that purpose," Pompeo told news hounds travelling with him.

President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has expressed frustration at the lack of progress towards a US withdrawal from the Afghan conflict after 17 years. In a policy shift during a June ceasefire, Washington said it would "support, facilitate and participate" in any Kabul government-led peace talks with the Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
The surge in recent Taliban attacks has, however, raised questions about its interest in talks.

Khalilzad’s appointment signals that the administration is serious about an Afghan grinding of the peace processor. In addition to his experience advising or working for four US administrations and his knowledge of Afghanistan’s main languages, culture and politics, he is from the ethnic Pashtun majority.

As an aide to President George W. Bush, Khalilzad helped plan the US invasion of Afghanistan that followed the Sept 11, 2001, attacks by Al Qaeda, which had been based in that country. That invasion also ousted the Taliban, whose Islamist government ruled the country beginning in 1996.

Known by many in Washington as "King Zal", the 67-year-old Khalilzad has decades of experience in the region. Now he has what Mr Pompeo has described as a "singular" mission to get the Taliban and the Afghan government to reconcile.

The mission marks Khalilzad’s return to focus on the country of his birth and childhood, and the place where he served as US ambassador from 2003 to 2005 under President Bush, helping to guide regime change in the messy aftermath of the fall of the Taliban.

(FSA) inside the Afrin region’s Shera District, killing four of the rebels in the process.

"On September 3rd, our forces carried out a successful action in the Mariamin village of Afrin’s Shera district, targeting a military vehicle belonging to the Liwa al-Shamal mercenary fraction."

The YPG also managed to confiscate the belongings of the FSA fighters, which alowed them to identify the rebels killed in the attack.

"As a result, all 4 mercenaries in the vehicle were killed. Their names are as follows: Abdoulkarem Shihade (from Homs), Dibo Ismail (Aleppo), Omer Heshesh (Idlib) and Muhammed Mustafa (Menagh)."

They would conclude their statement by providing details regarding the deadly attack:

"Also, concerning the operations that had been carried out by our forces on the night of September 3rdin Afrin city center and in the countryside of Afrin’s Sherawa district and which resulted in the death of 15 mercenaries, including a commander Ahmed Semir Brier, we have been able to confirm that 4 soldiers of the Ottoman Turkish invasion army were killed. We couldn’t share this detail in our previous blurb because the exact number of the killed Ottoman Turkish soldiers wasn’t yet clarified."

Egypt sentences four people to 14 years in prison in 2013 Shia killing case retrial
[AlAhram] A Giza criminal court sentenced four people to fourteen years in prison on Wednesday in the retrial of a case over the killing of a prominent Shia leader and three other members of the shrinking Egyptian Shia Moslem community in June 2013.

The court convicted the four men of manslaughter of the Shia leader Hassan Shehata and three members of his family and his followers.

The case dates back to June 2013, when an angry mob led by Salafist sheikhs torched Shia residences in the small village of Zawyat Abu Musalam in Giza governorate, killing four citizens.
The mob of hundreds gathered outside a house where the Shias were sheltering, beat them and set the house on fire.
Shehata was visiting one of the families in the village when the attack happened.

The attack was videotaped and the footage sent shockwaves across the country.

This is not the first time that an Egyptian court has issued sentences on the case, which has seen a number of appeals.

In the first sentencing of the case in 2015, 23 defendants, including 18 in absentia, were sentenced to 14 years prison for killing the four men. Eight others were acquitted.

In 2017, nearly two years after the first sentence, Egypt's Court of Cassation rejected an appeal presented by nine of the defendants, upholding their 14 year sentences.

Why flat Earthers and Holocaust-deniers won't change their mind: Researchers say some people's brains are wired to value feedback over facts
[Daily Mail] Some people swear vehemently by their beliefs despite overwhelming evidence contradicting their standpoint.

It’s a phenomenon that’s given rise to movements such as the ‘flat Earthers’ and climate change deniers, among many others in recent times.

While it might seem baffling, new research suggests it may have something to do with how we value feedback compared to hard evidence.

In a new study, researchers found that the positive and negative reactions that spring up in response to people’s opinions tend to hold more weight than logic or scientific data.

Hamas commander dies in accidental explosion in Gaza Strip
[IsraelTimes] Abdel Rahim Abbas said killed at police bomb disposal unit’s headquarters after kabooms catch fire

A member of the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", security forces was killed Wednesday in an accidental kaboom in the Gazoo Strip, the Paleostinian terror group reported.

The military wing of Hamas announced the man was Abdel Rahim Abbas, 42, a local commander of the Hamas security forces.

The Hamas-run Gazoo interior ministry said the kaboom happened at the administrative headquarters for the police’s bomb disposal unit and was a result of kabooms catching on fire during an inspection.

Police and civil defense units extinguished the fire caused by the kaboom, the ministry added.

A Hamas security source said he was trying to neutralize an Israeli munition.

Germany still investigating Iranian cash request
[IsraelTimes] Even though Iran has rescinded a request to repatriate 300 million euros ($347 million) it has in a Hamburg-based bank, German authorities say financial regulators are still examining the proposed transaction.

Finance Ministry front man Steffen Hebestreit says financial regulator Bafin is still examining whether regulations on money laundering and terrorism financing were being followed.

Bafin confirmed the investigation but wouldn’t comment further.

The US had been pressuring German authorities to reject Iran’s request to transfer the cash from the European-Iranian Trade Bank, over concerns of how it would be used.

Though the request has been dropped, a new one could be made.

in military operation which is ongoing for the past 15 days, local officials said on Wednesday.

Badakhshan Police Chief Saber Aryan said Taliban has suffered heavy casualties in the military operation.

He said Taliban are under siege by government forces in a rural village in the district.

"We have tightened surroundings of the villages in Nusay where Taliban still poses threat to security. The reason behind a delay in the military operation is that we want to protect civilians during our mission," he said.

The police chief said the operation will continue until all threats are removed from the district.

"Our operation will continue until all threats against Nusay district are removed. We have strictly ordered our forces not to let the Taliban to pose threat to security of the district," he added.

Badakhshan officials meanwhile said some parts of the province are still under threat by the Taliban.

"We have plans on hand to conduct military operations in other areas too," said Akhtar Mohammad Khairzada, deputy governor of Badakhshan.

Meanwhile,
...back at the desert island, Bert was realizing to his horror that he'd had only one bottle for one message, and he'd forgotten to include a return address...
a commander of public uprising forces, Nazir Mohammad Niazi, said to gain a good result from military operations, there is a need for government to call for the help of public uprising forces.

"Government does not have sufficient troops to maintain the safety of the areas therefore it will be good if it calls for the help of public uprising forces in this respect," said Niazi.

Military affairs analysts in Badakhshan said Taliban’s main hideout is in Wardooj district in the province therefore, they said they call on government to launch military operation for clearing of this part of Badakhshan.

Nusay is the link to Maymi, Kof Aab, Sheki and Khwahan districts. The only bridge into these districts, which share a border with Tajikistan, is located in this district and all these districts get supplies through Nusay.

Home Front: Culture Wars
The Nuns Pressing Gunmakers to Report on Safety Risks Are Back for Their Next Fight
[TheTrace] A group of nuns and other Catholic activists who want gunmakers to actively monitor violence committed with their products have met stiff resistance from the industry. In a new Securities and Exchange Commission filing, they have a message for one of those corporations, the parent company of popular gun brand Smith & Wesson: refusal to acknowledge the danger of your wares amounts to a self-inflicted injury to your bottom line.

After the Parkland school shooting, the activists, including the Sisters of the Holy Names of Jesus and Mary and the Catholic Health Initiatives network of clinics, bought stock in the American Outdoor Brands Corporation (AOBC), which owns Smith & Wesson. They did the same with Sturm, Ruger, the other major publicly traded gun company. The activists then used their status as shareholders to ask fellow investors to join them in demanding that the gunmakers publicly report on public safety risks caused by their products.

Ruger’s shareholders were first to consider the nuns’ proposal at their company’s annual meeting in May. The initiative passed with 69 percent of the vote. It was an unprecedented victory for the activists: no gun company had ever been forced by its shareholders to consider the public safety implications of its products.

American Outdoor Brands is the next test for the activists’ campaign. They have submitted a nearly identical motion to be voted on at the company’s shareholder meeting on September 25.

The company officially acknowledged the proposal in an August 17th filing, in which the board of directors urged other shareholders to oppose the activists’ proposal. The board argued that producing such a report would not reduce gun violence, and was redundant because the company already cooperates with federal law enforcement and complies with regulatory requirements that acknowledge the risk associated with firearms.

The nuns and their allies have now pushed back, saying that they don’t believe a report alone would reduce shootings and injuries: instead, they are asking the company to engage in basic responsible corporate governance. As they note, AOBC has become dependent on so-called fear-based sales that spike in response to anticipation of potential new gun control laws that rarely actually materialize. But in the post-Parkland school shooting moment, enthusiastic gun control activists have managed to push through real reforms ‐ 55 new state gun laws have passed since the killings.

The Catholic allies have also pressured financial firms to impose conditions on the gun companies they work with.
Continues.

Afghanistan
Kabul: dozens of Hazeri casualties in double mosque kaboom, Haqqani gang busted

Dozens dead or wounded in twin explosions in Kabul

[KhaamaPress] At least thirty twenty people were killed and nearly seventy others sustained injuries in twin explosions in Kabul city earlier this evening.

Security sources confirm the first blast took place inside a sports complex in the 6th police district of the city in Qala-e-Nazir area in west of Kabul.

The sources further added that the second blast took place among the reporters in the same area.

The Ministry of Public Health confirmed that the dead bodies of at least 20 people along with at least 70 wounded people were shifted to the hospitals.

The security officials have not confirmed the type of the explosions and the exact casualties toll but preliminary reports indicate the first blast has taken place due to a suicide attack.

No individual or group including Taliban and ISIS loyalists has so far claimed responsibility behind the incident.

This is a developing story and will be updated as new information becomes available.
Tolo News adds:
The Kabul police chief's spokesman told TOLOnews that a second explosion targeted first responders at the scene of Wednesday night's bombing in the city.

Officials confirmed the first explosion, just after 6pm, was a suicide bombing and the second, about an hour later, had been a car bomb.

Sources said that the second bombing targeted police and civilians, including journalists, who had gathered outside the Moalem wrestling club in Qala-e-Nazer in PD6, which had been targeted about an hour earlier by a suicide bomber.
Al Ahram points out:
A suicide attack at a wrestling club in a Shia neighborhood of the Afghan capital Kabul and a second explosion apparently targeting emergency services and journalists killed at least 20 people and wounded 70 on Wednesday, officials said.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack in Dasht-e-Barchi, home to many members of the mainly Shia Muslim Hazara ethnic minority which has been targeted in the past by Sunni militants of Islamic State group.

The Hazaras are a Persian-speaking minority that has long faced discrimination and which has borne the brunt of attacks claimed by Islamic State group in Kabul.

Gang of Haqqani Network members involved in destructive activities busted in Kabul

[KhaamaPress] A gang of Haqqani Network members involved in destructive activities and killing of the officials has been busted in capital Kabul.

The Afghan Intelligence, National Directorate of Security (NDS), in a statement said a gang of Haqqani Network consisting of 11 militants was busted during separate operations in Kabul.

The statement further added that the militants were arrested during the operations from the 5th and 12th districts, Paghman and Bagrami districts.

According to the National Directorate of Security, the detained militants were involved in some major terrorist related activities, including attacks on government and security officials, tribal elders, and roadside bombings.

The Afghan forces also confiscated a Ak-47 rifle, a pistol, three kgs of explosives, and a motorycle during the operations, NDS added.

The detained militants have been identified as Momin Khan, Azizullah, Sardar Wali, Hamid, Mustafa, Mir Agha, Mohammad Rasool, Nawab, Lal Agha, Munir, and Ehsanullah.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Haqqani Network and Taliban militants have not commented regarding the report so far.

Husband of imprisoned Iranian human rights lawyer arrested in Tehran
[IsraelTimes] Reza Khandan charged with ’conspiring against national security, propaganda against the system and campaigning against Iran’s Islamic dress code’

The husband of the imprisoned award-winning Iranian human rights
...which are usually entirely different from personal liberty...
activist Nasrin Sotoudeh has been tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
, their lawyer told AFP on Wednesday.

"Reza Khandan was arrested on Tuesday morning at his home in Tehran by agents of Iran’s intelligence ministry," their lawyer Mohammad Moghimi said.

He was transferred to Evin prison in northern Tehran where a judge charged him with conspiring against national security, propaganda against the system and campaigning against Iran’s Islamic dress code.

The last charge was based on the fact that badges were found in the family’s home, saying "No to compulsory hijab," the lawyer said.

Khandan’s wife is one of Iran’s most famed rights activists and won the European Parliament’s prestigious Sakharov human rights award in 2012.

Earlier this year, Sotoudeh took on the cases of several women arrested for standing in public areas without their headscarves, which have been mandatory in Iran since shortly after the Islamic revolution of 1979.

She was arrested in June and told she had already been found guilty "in absentia" on spying charges by Tehran’s Revolutionary Court.

Her legal team said she is now serving a six-year jail term, one year longer than previously reported.

She began a hunger strike on August 25 in protest at the pressure brought on her family.

Khandan’s bail was set at 7 billion rials ($50,000), which Moghimi called "legally unacceptable."

Khandan and Sotoudeh’s 18-year-old daughter and 10-year-old son were home at the time of the arrest and are now being cared for by their aunt, he added.

Moghimi said that Khandan’s charge of propaganda against the state was due to his interviews with international media on his wife’s imprisonment and ongoing cases.

Human Rights Watch said Iran had "ramped up their crackdown against human rights defenders."

"Iranian authorities continue to dig a hole for their domestic and international credibility as they lock up scores of lawyers and activists for the ’crime’ of defending citizens’ fundamental rights," said the NGO’s Middle East director Sarah Leah Whitson.

One of Sotoudeh’s lawyers, Payam Derafshan, was himself arrested last week along with colleague Farokh Forouzan, according to a Facebook post by another human rights lawyer.

Jordan court sentences Islamic State member to 20 years
[IsraelTimes] Convict, along with his two brothers killed in shoot-out with security forces, drove around home town in pickup truck firing into the air and then retreated to booby-trapped house

A Jordanian court has sentenced an alleged Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group member to 20 years of hard labor for a 2016 attack on security forces, an AFP correspondent at the trial said.

The 25-year-old was charged with acquiring automatic weapons along with his two brothers and turning their house in Ma’an, 210 kilometers (130 miles) south of Amman, into a bomb factory.

The brothers booby-trapped the house then raised black IS flags on a roundabout and on the minaret of a mosque in the town to attract the attention of security forces, the charge sheet read.

They also raised an IS flag on a pickup truck which they drove around town, shooting in the air, it said.

"When the accused saw a vehicle belonging to security services they opened fire, wounding those inside," the charges said.

Officials said they then returned to their house, leaving the pickup outside to attract attention.

Security forces arrived, triggering a shootout which maimed several security personnel and killed two of the brothers. The third was able to blow up the house before being incarcerated
You have the right to remain silent...
Jordanian courts regularly try suspected jihadists, usually linked to IS.

Jordan is part of the US-led military coalition against IS and has carried out air strikes targeting the murderous Moslem group. It also hosts coalition troops on its territory.

The kingdom was hit by several attacks in 2016, including an IS suicide kaboom in June that killed seven guards near the border with Syria.

Islamist stronghold Ma’an has a bloody and rebellious past dating back to the Arab revolt against the Ottoman Empire during World War I.

Iran Touts Collaboration With Soros' Open Society Foundations
[FreeBeacon] Iranian Foreign Minister Javad Zarif said the Islamic Republic has had a long and successful working relationship with the Open Society Foundations, a massive philanthropic organization run by liberal billionaire George Soros.

"Zarif claimed that the Open Society Foundation was legally operational inside Iran ... with significant collaborations with city councils and other organizations," according to a translation of recent remarks by Zarif performed by Iran Gateway.

Zarif went on to claim "he made sure these meetings with Iranians were under strict rules and scrutiny, lest it jeopardizes national security," according to the translation of remarks before Iran's Parliment.

Zarif also claimed" he was briefed regularly on the content of these meetings by the Iranian counterparts" and referenced similar claims by "Kian Tajbakhsh, head of Open Society Foundation in Iran, as mostly confirming his claims."

Soros's foundation is a prolific funder of liberal organizations, including J Street, Human Rights Watch, and a cadre of other organizations critical of Israel.

US Navy says over 2,500 assault rifles found in Gulf seizure
[IsraelTimes] The US Navy says a recent arms seizure from small ships near war-torn Yemen

The Navy’s Bahrain-based 5th Fleet gives the updated total in a statement. It boarded the skiff and the dhow, a traditional ship in the Persian Gulf, during a routine check in the Gulf of Aden on Aug. 28.

The Navy adds: "The origin and intended destination of the skiff have not yet been determined."

In early 2016, US-allied warships in the region stopped three dhows carrying thousands of Kalashnikov assault rifles as well as sniper rifles, machine guns, rocket-propelled grenade launchers, anti-tank missiles and other weapons believed bound for Yemen from Iran.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Satellite images show damage at Syria site from raid attributed to Israel
Images can be seen at link.
[IsraelTimes] Explosions destroy two large hangars and reveal tunnel entrances leading underground, says imaging service.

An Israeli satellite company published images Wednesday it said showed the damage at a military site in Syria from an Arclight airstrike a day before that was attributed to Israel.

The rare daytime strike reportedly targeted Iranian assets between the town of Masyaf and Wadi al-Uyun.

Photos taken from space showed two large hangars, 60 and 35 meters in length, destroyed in the attack, said ImageSat International (ISI).

The raids also revealed entrances to underground tunnels, one leading from each hangar, which were previously covered by tarpaulins, ISI said.

"Due to its location close to other surface-to-surface missile Iranian-Syrian facilities within the Russian S-400 [air-defense system] deployment range, and following recent media reports about past airstrikes, ISI assesses that this site might be related as well to the other mentioned sites," the company said.

The Syrian military claimed air defenses successfully intercepted several missiles launched by Israeli warplanes, though Damascus often inflates the number of missiles it intercepts.

Israel does not regularly comment on alleged strikes in Syria, though the reported attack came hours after the IDF confirmed it had carried out over 200 strikes in the country over the past 18 months.

Also Wednesday, Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Israel is working to thwart the production of precision missiles that can be used against the country "both near and far."

"Israel is determined to prevent Iran and its proxies from establishing a military presence in Syria," Netanyahu told ministers at the start of the weekly cabinet meeting.

"We are taking strong action against these attempts and against the attempts to produce precision weaponry in all sectors, near and far. We will continue to take such action on behalf of the security of Israel," he said.

The 202 targets hit in the Israeli airstrikes since 2017 were mostly shipments of advanced weaponry, as well as military bases and infrastructure, which the IDF officials said drove Iranian forces to abandon some posts.

In addition, Jerusalem has tried to get the Islamic Theocratic Republic out of Syrian through diplomatic means by appealing to the two main power-brokers in the region: Russia and the United States.

While Russia does not seem to have accepted Israel’s demand for Iran to be completely removed from Syria, it has agreed to force the Islamic Theocratic Republic’s forces and proxies to leave the areas closest to the border with Israel.

According to some reports, pro-Iranian forces would be required to stay 40 kilometers (25 miles) away from the border; others indicate that range would be set at 80 kilometers (50 miles).

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Hamas leader admits Marches of Return were staged to avert internal crisis
[Ynet] Gazoo's terror head Yahya Sinwar says weekly violent marches were used to divert pressure onto Israel and prevent an 'internal kaboom' after reconciliation efforts with Fatah were 'sabotaged'; Sinwar also clarifies no ceasefire agreement reached with Israel.

Gazoo’s Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", leader Yahya Sinwar openly admitted on Tuesday that the weekly "March of Return" protests staged on the Gazoo border in recent months were intended to avert an internal crisis and divert pressure onto the Israelis.

"After the reconciliation efforts (between Hamas and Fatah) reached an impasse, a number of factions planned to cause an internal kaboom in the Gazoo Strip, but the Marches of Return thwarted the plan," Sinwar said during a Hamas conference in the coastal enclave.

"Paleostinian officials collaborated with Israeli intelligence in order to sabotage the reconciliation efforts," he claimed.

Sinwar also said that no arrangement has been reached with Israel to put an end to daily hostilities, despite the quiet that has prevailed on the volatile border in recent days.

"I will state clearly: So far there is no agreement and not outline for an agreement for a ceasefire with Israel," the terror leader said.

In August, it was reported that Israel and Hamas had reached a ceasefire under Egyptian mediation, as Israelis living in the south urged the government to stem the daily launching of incendiary balloons and near-daily barrage of rockets that threatened to drag the two sides into yet another conflict.

"Gazoo did not want to to stand idly by when the American Embassy was transferred to Jerusalem," Sinwar explained. "The Paleostinian people succeeded in turning this provocation into an opportunity to confront the Israeli enemy."

Sinwar heaped praise on the Gazoo residents, saying "our people create a means of pressure, like the incendiary balloons, and they write the history of those under siege in Gazoo, who have nothing, and they cause Israel to think again."

Telling his listeners that Hamas was not seeking war, and was instead interested in maintaining the ceasefire reached in 2014 at the end of Operation Protective Edge, Sinwar emphasized that "we are ready to fight off any aggression."

Sinwar addressed rumors circulating about possible solutions to the crisis gripping the Gazoo Strip.

"Anyone who thinks there is a discussion about an airport (in Sinai), does not know anything. The discussion at the moment is about a maritime route between the Gazoo Strip and Cyprus and about finding a systematic solution to the problem of UNRWA," Sinwar attempted to clarify.

Sinwar also turned to UN Mideast Envoy Nikolay Mladenov. "Your role has changed from the United Nations
...boodling on the grand scale...
envoy for the grinding of the peace processor to the UN envoy to prevent war," Sinwar said.

"As the pressure on resistance increased, so did the intermediaries. Mladenov came to Gazoo twice a day during the recent escalation and not he hasn’t been to Gazoo in weeks," he complained.

Judicial Watch: New FBI Records Reveal Strzok Authored Initial Draft of Comey Letter to Congress about Clinton Emails on Weiner Laptop
Judicial Watch today released 424 pages of FBI records, including an email revealing that recently fired FBI official Peter Strzok created the initial draft of the October 2016 letter then-FBI director James Comey sent to Congress notifying lawmakers of the discovery of Hillary Clinton emails on the laptop of disgraced former Congressman Anthony Weiner.

Another email suggests that the FBI had not yet completed its review of Clinton’s emails by the time Comey sent a second letter to Congress on November 6, 2016, reconfirming his belief that Hillary Clinton shouldn’t be charged with a crime.

The documents reveal that on October 27, 2016, Peter Strzok emailed other senior FBI officials a draft notice letter from Comey to Congress about the Weiner laptop discovery and the reopening of the Clinton investigation. The emails indicated that Strzok and another official Jon (Last Name Unknown) authored the notification to Congress. The notification, according the DOJ IG, came a full month after the emails were discovered by the FBI on the Weiner laptop.

According to the documents, at 11:04 p.m. on Saturday, November 5, 2016, FBI Chief of Staff James Rybicki sent Comey an email containing a redacted draft document which he referred to as a "New Proposal" saying: "Folks, Per our 1000pm conversation, below is a revised straw man for discussion. Again, we could use this if the review when completed supports our conclusions. My comments again in ALL CAPS and bold italics."

Rybicki’s "New Proposal ... straw man" apparently refers to a draft of Comey’s letter to Congress concerning the FBI’s review of the 650,000 Clinton emails found Weiner’s laptop. At the time of the Rybicki email, Comey was preparing his letter informing Congress of the FBI’s findings, and according to page 390 of the June 2018 report from the DOJ Office of the Inspector General, the deliberations regarding the letter began on the afternoon of November 3 and concluded "very early on November 6."

Despite Rybicki’s email suggesting late on November 5 that the review of the new emails had not been completed, Comey’s November 6 letter to Congress stated, "[W]e reviewed all of the communications that were to or from Hillary Clinton while she was Secretary of State. Based on our review, we have not changed our conclusions that we expressed in July with respect to Secretary Clinton."
Continues.

#2  Does anyone ever try to understand why Huma stored all these communications on Weiner's laptop, or allowed him to do it?
It violated numerous laws, since many classified communications were among these; and keeping all Clinton communications on a private unauthorized server apparently without permission from anyone seems a strange thing to do.
There are a number of possible motives:
1. she hoped to sell this information
2. she hoped to use it in writing a book
3. she held it as protection against a rift with Ms. Clinton, to be used for blackmail if necessary.
4. She just liked breaking security laws for the fun of it.
Can you think of anything else?
On another matter, there have been reports that the entire FBI investigation of the 650,000 items was done by several people within a 12 hour time span. That they found nothing sufficient to overturn Comey's decision to exonerate Ms. Clinton. a decision made long before any investigation of anything, is not surprising.
I believe Comey made his first message to Congress to prevent some loose cannon in the NY FBI making it public. This was just like Lois Lerner revealing the campaign against pro-Republican organizations by the IRS which was done so she could control what was said, and be the go to person for further information, rather than this being some Republican.

How do I replicate my server email folder to my local HD using MS Outlook 2010???

I assume some client replication rule was in effect to maintain an offline cache which then synchronized when the Outlook client found it's server. Technology strikes again.

#4  Does anyone ever try to understand why Huma stored all these communications on Weiner's laptop, or allowed him to do it?

Yea, his laptop but who was the designated operator? Thumb drive library no doubt. The stuff from Foggy Bottom had to be migrated to something. I doubt any unauthorized distro mas made from inside the State Dept.

That's how I would do it anyway. Just my guess.

#5  Daniel's #3 or Skidmark's OST/PST backup scenario would be my guess.

The backup to something other than a external drive or thumb drive would be pretty stupid.

But then these folks are in politics.

#7  The FBI did a sloppy, half-arsed job of examining HRC's records. The process was corrupted. HRC had many classified documents on this computer inter-mixed with Weiner's pron. The FBI exonerated Hillary, thus obstructing justice via an elaborate cover-up.

The question is "What is to be done with HRC, the DOJ and FBI higher-ups?" So far, not much has happened except a few deck chair shufflings and a few firings. If there are no consequences, such things are likely to happen again.
