‘The leading edge of a much larger iceberg': New Jersey high school disbands football team
[WAPO] WEST WINDSOR TOWNSHIP, N.J. -- The nationwide forces that are beginning to uproot football have converged at a place called High School North.

Demographic shifts, concussions, single-sport specialization and cost -- among the same issues that have caused youth football numbers to plummet around the country in recent years -- have led West Windsor-Plainsboro High School North to drop varsity football this season. The Knights, with a roster of 37 players, will play a junior varsity schedule.

High School South, the other secondary school in the district, might have to do the same next year, along with high schools from four other neighboring jurisdictions, West Windsor-Plainsboro Schools Superintendent David Aderhold said.

The moves reflect a crisis for football all over the country, but one that has accelerated in this New York City bedroom community.

"We’re the leading edge of a much larger iceberg when it comes to what’s coming in youth athletics," Aderhold said.

Football participation has dropped precipitously for some time. High school football enrollment is down 4.5 percent over the past decade, according to the National Federation of State High School Associations.

More schools are fielding football teams nationwide, albeit with fewer players, led by surges in such states as Oklahoma, Florida and Arkansas, which together have added 150 teams in the past five years. But other regions -- namely the Midwest and Northeast -- are shedding high school football programs at a significant rate. Michigan has seen a net loss of 57 teams in the past five years. Missouri has lost 24. Pennsylvania has lost 12.

Or could youth injuries, liability claims, and medical expenses be forcing a return to common sense and the intended basics of 'reading, writing, and arithmetic ?'

Now compare that to the Red/Blue map of the last election. Could there be a pattern here? Where's the bastion of anti-male matriarchy? It's like, when women were less than 50 percent of the college population, 'we' had a problem. Now that women are nearly 60 percent, it's no longer a 'problem'.

#5  Football is done in the blue states within a decade. Probably dead nationally within two.

Between micro-concussions and the 'must have a winner' aspect of sports I'm not sure how it can survive. We will probably continue to see high school and college football in the red states but I'm not sure that's enough to keep the NFL alive.

I'm sure the SJW will attempt to push everyone towards Soccer as more international, less aggressive, more woman friendly, and where faked injuries and grievances are part of the sport.

#7  #5 Limbaugh has often talked about the SJWS attempts to destroy football for some of the same things you mention. When I first heard I didn't think it was likely. Now,I do. High-schools feed into colleges and colleges feed into the pros, if the high-schools go down, the rest of the system goes down.

#12  jvalentour, the thing about micro-concussions (if they are real) is that they are not bad enough to sideline a player so they keep going, one after another, after another, until they beat the crap out of their brain.

With a concussion it is obvious and the player is walked off immediately.

The solution, if microconcussions are real, is to return to leather helmets in which the player will protect their head because of less protection and will stop using their helmet as a weapon. That will change the whole game of course.
Posted by: rjschwarz || 08/23/2017 16:07 Comments || Top||

#13  The other "inconvenient Gore" of concussions is that all of that new concussion protocol and decision matrix processes during the game are comparable to TSA screening in that the majority of concussions, somewhere around 2/3 occur during practices with much less oversight. Add in the Rudy factor of some kids willing themselves onto the starting line up and you end up undocumented concussions.
Posted by: Capsu78 || 08/23/2017 16:14 Comments || Top||

#14  rjs,
I like the leather helmet idea.
Kid was a keeper, knees, and cleats to the head, she was walked off in college, had to quit sports entirely due to multiple concussions (over several years) in soccer. Other kids in football fared better. Really wasn't referring to micro concussions from headers. All this before the concussanazis.
I do have to say in the last few years HS football has done a better job training staff and players on how not to hit, at least here in my neck of the woods.

U.S. Navy admiral: USS John S. McCain, oil tanker collision may have been intentional
[Wash Times] Top Navy leaders are refusing to rule out the possibility that a collision between an U.S. destroyer and an oil tanker in the Pacific may have been intentional, Chief of Naval Operations Adm. John Richardson said Monday.

The incident, which occurred early Monday morning in Southeast Asian waters, resulted in 10 American sailors lost at sea and "significant damage" to the USS John S. McCain, an Arleigh Burke-class destroyer attached to the Navy’s Seventh Fleet, according to a Navy statement.

Search and rescue operations by the U.S., Indonesian, Singaporean and Malayan navies remained underway Monday night for the missing sailors, and four other U.S. sailors were reportedly evacuated from the USS McCain to medical facilities in Singapore.

The Pentagon initiated a two-day pause in all Navy operations worldwide, beginning Monday, as a result of the incident.

Adm. Richardson, who briefed reporters at the Pentagon, described the action as a "operational pause in the near term" to allow for an overall review of "the [operational] fundamentals at the unit and team level."

He also said the sea service was initiating two major fleetwide inquiries into the incident, which is the second midsea collision in two months between American warships attached to Seventh Fleet and commercial vessels traversing international waters in the Pacific.

#8  Wouldn't it be nice if the Admiral gave some indication about whether the suspected intensionality was on the part of the oil tanker, or on the part of some spontaneously jihadist death-eater on the USS McCain?

Or - some Croatian/Roumanian/North Korean/Russian hackers?
Posted by: Lone Ranger || 08/23/2017 13:15 Comments || Top||

#9  Could it be that in this case, since the tanker was the burdened vessel (obliged to give way) and the McCain was the privileged vessel ( in normal circumstances obliged to remain on course) that the collision involved waiting too long on the McCain to realize that the tanker wasn't going to follow the rules. IN the last case, and in other reporting, foreign flag vessels late at night seem to have their vessels under GPS/Nav systems control with no competent officers awake or on the bridge, so the computer didn't know it was obliged to give way, and the McCain waited too long? Not a ship driver {my last vessel command was a 29ft Ericson sloop in Newport Beach, and that a long time ago.)

I'd also be curious to the nationality/religion and other facts about he helmsman of the tanker. Just to rule that line of inquiry out quickly of course.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Book in Review: Rogue Spooks - The Secret Intelligence Plot to Destroy Donald Trump by Dick Morris, Eileen McGann
[B&N] In Rogue Spooks, bestselling authors Dick Morris and Eileen McGann uncover the facts behind allegations of foreign meddling in the 2016 presidential election. This groundbreaking exposé will leave readers questioning the motives of U.S. Intelligence agencies, leftover partisans within our government, and members of the mainstream press.

Donald Trump's first 100 days in office were roiled by allegations of treasonous contacts between his campaign team and the Kremlin to rig the election. These outrageous charges first surfaced in the notorious "Trump Dossier," an unverified document of suspect provenance, full of wild and salacious accusations.

This dossier--filled with little more than gossip, rumor, and innuendo‐‐was compiled by Christopher Steele, a former British intelligence operative who teamed up with the FBI and anti-Trump partisans. Hillary Clinton supporters paid for Steele’s work.

When no news media would publish the unverified dossier, the ex-spook enlisted the help of a former UK ambassador to Russia, who arranged in turn for a former U.S. Assistant Secretary of State to get the document to Senator John McCain, in the hope that he would then bring it to FBI Director James Comey’s attention. McCain did just that.

Comey himself played a critical role in the dossier ultimately going public, giving a confidential summary to President Obama and Congressional leaders. It was immediately leaked by rogue spooks in order to demean, destabilize, and destroy Donald Trump’s nascent presidency.

The dossier and this mythical intelligence are the basis for the phony claims about a Russia/Trump collusion to steal the election. No proof was found. No substantiation uncovered. Even Comey told Trump he was not under investigation for the Russian meddling charges.

But that didn’t end the leaks or the allegations. Working in concert with liberal news outlets, these rogue spooks have formed a new intel/media complex that threatens our democracy. Rogue Spooks will reveal how it works.

Readers will be shocked to learn the truth about the false accusations against President Trump in the flawed dossier. They’ll be interested to know how leaks to the media fueled the phony scandal, and how intelligence agencies will try to use the newly appointed special prosecutor to oust President Trump.

They will also learn what we can do--specifically--to stop them.

After fierce festivities, the advancing units managed to seize control of the strategic Ras al-Kaff and al-Kahf areas.

And as troops scoured Ras al-Kaff for any remaining bad boys, the engineering units were detonating explosives and traps left behind by the jihadists.

The army later announced that its units captured six new hills in the area and an Army Command front man announced that the military was now in control of 100 out of 120 square kilometers of territory previously held by IS.

"Nine terrorist posts were destroyed as arms, ammunition and explosives were seized," the front man said.

"We captured around 20 square kilometers (on Tuesday) and therefore we still have around 20 square kilometers" to liberate, he added.

The front man also told news hounds that the army does not have any IS detainees from the current battle or any new information about nine troops taken hostage by IS in 2014.

Earlier in the day, the army said in a statement that one of its mine experts, Abbas Kamal Jaafar, was killed and four others were maimed early Tuesday when explosives left behind by the hard boyz went off as they dismantled them.

IS 'Emir' Seeks Exit to Deir Ezzor as Ibrahim Asks for Info on Held Troops

[AnNahar] The so-called emir of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group in Leb’s eastern border region, Mouwaffaq Abu al-Sous, is seeking a mediation that would secure the withdrawal of his embattled holy warriors from the outskirts of Ras Baalbek and al-Qaa to Syria's Deir Ezzor, a media report said on Tuesday.

Al-Akhbar newspaper said that since the Lebanese army started its major anti-IS offensive on Saturday, the besieged jihadist "has been requesting negotiations on daily basis," telling the Lebanese side, "There is no problem between us and the Lebanese army."

Abu al-Sous is demanding "a safe route to withdraw to Deir Ezzor, specifically to the city of al-Mayadeen," al-Akhbar added.

"But the Lebanese side, represented by General Security chief Maj. Gen. Abbas Ibrahim, has rejected the demand, after Abu al-Sous insisted on securing a ceasefire before negotiations, whereas Ibrahim insisted on negotiations under fire," the daily said.

According to al-Akhbar, Ibrahim also underlined that Leb would only negotiate on two points: "offering information on the army's troops who have been kidnapped since August 2014, and surrender."

The IS "emir" for his part said that he "would not disclose any information about the captives before leaving Lebanese territory."

Security along Leb's eastern border with Syria has long been a concern, and in 2014 jihadists invaded the town of Arsal and kidnapped 30 Lebanese soldiers and coppers. Four were executed by their captors while a fifth died of his wounds. Sixteen were released by al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra

India's top court finds Muslim divorce law 'unconstitutional'
The times, they are a-changing.
[Ynet] India's Supreme Court on Tuesday ruled a controversial Moslem quick divorce law unconstitutional, a landmark victory for Moslem women who had long argued that it violated their right to equality.

The law allows Moslem men to divorce their wives simply by uttering the word "talaq" three times. Moslem women say they have been left destitute by husbands divorcing them through "triple talaq," including by Skype and WhatsApp.

Under the ruling, the government will need to frame a new divorce law, which would abolish the practice by making it illegal.

The ruling was delivered by a panel of five male judges from different faiths - Hinduism, Christianity, Islam, Sikhism and Zoroastrianism. Three of the five ruled that the practice was unconstitutional, overruling the senior-most judge in India, the chief justice.

Judge frees Spain terror suspect, orders two to be held without bail and detains fourth for 72 hours - as it is revealed ISIS document was found in suspected bomb factory
[DailyMail]
  • Mohammed Aallaa, whose car was used during Cambrils attack, has been freed, but passport taken and must report weekly

  • Mohammed Houli Chemlal, the bombmaker who was pulled from the rubble of the bomb factory, and Driss Oukabir, who admitted he rented van used in Barcelona attack, to be held without bail

  • Sahal El Karib, who owns an internet cafe in Ripoll, will be held for 72 hours

  • Judge ruled on cases as he revealed ISIS document was found inside ruins of suspected bomb factory used by the group

  • More raids carried out in the town of Vilafranca del Penedes on Tuesday night

  • Two of the suspects said Imam Abdelbaki Es Satty, who preached at a mosque in Ripoll, was the mastermind, the other two claimed not to know him

  • Moroccan police have arrested one person and are investigating three others in connection with the terror attacks. The four include the parents of one of those in custody and Nourine Oukabir, cousin of brothers Driss and Moussa
Breitbart adds more about the good imam's history:
Abdelbaki Es Satty, 40, lived with Mohammed Mrabet Fahsi in Vilanova i la Geltru, a coastal town about 30 miles southwest of Barcelona between 2003 and 2005.

Mr. Fahsi was accused of recruiting fighters for jihadist causes in Iraq and Syria. He was jugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
in 2006 in Spain as he prepared to move to the United Kingdom, and locked away
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
for funding terrorism.

A Salafi mosque in the town of Vilanova i la Geltru, is reported to have been known for preaching a radical message.

Three other al Qaeda suspects also stayed in the flat, including Belgacem Bellil, an Algerian who went kaboom! in Iraq in 2003, killing 14 Italians and nine Iraqis.

The radical group living in Vilanova i la Geltru had contact with another terror cell in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, north of Barcelona, which helped the Madrid bombers to escape, local media reported.

Es Satty spent at least two years in prison from 2012 for smuggling cannabis between North Africa and Spain, El Periodico newspaper reported. There, he befriended Rachid Aglif, who was locked away
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
for 18 years for the Madrid atrocity in which 192 people died.

Great White North
Bear follows 2-year-old boy into B.C. home
[CTVNEWS.CA] A British Columbia mother says a black bear followed her two-and-a-half-year-old son up a staircase and through a patio doorway into their home on Saturday.

Eleri Froude of Gibsons, B.C., says she first was alerted to the presence of the bear inside her home around 5:30 p.m. on Saturday when her son said, “Mom, look!”

“I thought, ‘Oh my God, what am I going to do now?’” she said. “That was when my friend turned around and said, ‘Get the kids and get them in the bedroom.’”

A photo released by B.C. Mounties shows an adult male bear gnawing at a home's door after being locked outside.

Froude locked herself and her children in a bedroom while the friend attempted to scare the bear away by yelling and banging pots. He also used a chair to push it back out the door it came in from.

Sunshine Coast RCMP say the friend was only able to shut the door after giving the intruder a punch in the nose. The friend then took some frightening photos of the snarling bear on the other side of the glass in the door.

RCMP say they tried to scare the bear away with an air horn and water bottles, but the bear soon returned to the house, “tried to open the door to the garage and chased a male down the street.”

Police say they consulted with a conservation officer before deciding that the up-to-250-pound (113 kilogram) bear should be killed.

ISIS appoints new Top Cop

Baghdad (IraqiNews.com) The self-proclaimed Islamic State has appointed a new commander of its so-called “police service” after a former leader fled the group’s domains.

Alghad Press quoted an unidentified source saying Tuesday that IS appointed Abu Karar al-Iraqi as a new police chief, replacing fugitive Abu Othman al-Mayathini who had fled several weeks earlier.

The website did not, however, explain the area where the new commander was situated or that which the former commander had fled.

Islamic State is still holding havens in Anbar, Kirkuk and Salahuddin, and Iraqi forces, backed by paramilitary troops, launched a new offensive on Sunday targeting Tal Afar, one of the group’s main bastions in Iraq.

Since operations launched in October 2016 to recapture Islamic State-held areas, the group lost more than 25.000 of its fighters, while others reportedly escaped battlefields. Many members have reportedly been executed by the group for escaping battles or showing poor performance. Frequent reports have also told of divisions, conflicts over leaderships and mysterious assassinations within the group.

The group lost its former capital, Mosul, to Iraqi forces early July, a major development viewed as an effective fall of the self-styled “caliphate” the militants declared in 2014.

Pakistan disappointed by Trump’s accusations of supporting terrorism
Talk to us when Hafiz Saeed is dead.
[Iran Press TV] Pakistain has voiced its "disappointment" over remarks made by US President Donald Trump

Osama bin Laden wasn't in Pakistain. Omar Saeed Sheikh and all the rest of Daniel Pearl's murderers are dead.

"No country in the world has suffered more than Pakistain from the scourge of terrorism, often perpetrated from outside our borders. It is, therefore disappointing that the US policy statement ignores the enormous sacrifices rendered by the Pak nation in this effort," said a statement released by Pakistain’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

The statement was released after Trump said Washington can no longer remain silent about Pakistain providing "safe havens for terrorists."

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Ukrainians say rebels are deliberately starting fires

Ukrainian military officials are saying the Russian backed rebels are using their artillery and direct fire gunnery to deliberately start fires in built up areas in Donetsk and Lugansk, according to Russian language sources.

A news report which appeared in lb.ua quoted a Ukrainian military officials saying that rebel artillery and small arms fire in Zaitsevo and in Stanitsa Luganskaya causing the fires, are being set on purpose. The rebels were using the prevailing eastern winds in the region to blow fires toward built up areas and in areas where Ukrainian troops are dug in.

According to another lb.ua report, almost 75 acres of forest were burned in Lugansk due to rebel overnight gunfire.

In Zaitsevo, Ukrainian military officials released images they say are of residential buildings damaged by fire. According to that report, Ukrainian forces did not return fire.

Yet another lb.ua report said that rebel overnight attacks in Avdievka lasted until midnight. Ukrainian officials said their forces responded with counterbattery fire and suppressed the rebel artillery.

The same report also stated that mortar and direct fire heavy weapons were fired at Zaitsevo for nearly two hours.

In Lugansk, rebel mortar fire was reported in Krymskoye and Novotoshkovsk areas. Rebels fired heavy machine gun fire into Novoaleksandrovka and Stanitsa Luganskaya.

In southern Donetsk, rebel mortar fire landed on Vodnovo and in Shirokino.

Rebel media said that Ukrainian forces hit Bezymennoye with 122mm rocket artillery overnight. The attack came a day after Ukrainian forces said that the rebels used 122mm rocket artillery Monday to Tuesday night near Peski, for a total of 16 rounds.

Rebel media said the Ukrainians fired 10 rounds at their forces. Bezymennoye is in the south in the Mariupol region. The artillery fire came from the direction of Shirokino. The report said that a joint Russian/Ukrainian observation post was nearby when the Bezymennoye attack took place.

Rebel media said that the charge that they used 122mm rocket artillery is a lie.

A separate rebel report said that Ukrainian artillery in Gorlovka, Yasinovatskaya, and the village of Gorky damaged or destroyed 11 residential buildings. All the Ukrainian artillery fire reported took place overnight.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran warns it can make weapons-grade material in days if nuke deal scotched
Unexpectedly much like what Israeli prime minister Bibi Netanyahu has been saying for years.
[IsraelTimes] Statement seen as indication Tehran willing to push back against Trump, who has threatened to scrap the 2015 sanctions-lifting agreement

Iran’s atomic chief warned Tuesday the Islamic Theocratic Republic needs only five days to ramp up its uranium enrichment to 20 percent, a level at which the material could be used for a nuclear weapon.

The comments by Ali Akbar Salehi to Iranian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
come as US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
repeatedly has threatened to renegotiate or walk away from the 2015 nuclear deal.

Salehi’s warning, along with recent comments by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, show Iran is willing to push back against Trump while still acknowledging they want to keep the deal, which lifted crippling economic sanctions on the country.

"If there is a plan for a reaction and a challenge, we will definitely surprise them," said Salehi, who also serves as one of Rouhani’s vice presidents. "If we make the determination, we are able to resume 20 percent-enrichment in at most five days."

He added: "Definitely, we are not interested in such a thing happening. We have not achieved the deal easily to let it go easily. We are committed to the deal and we are loyal to it."

Iran gave up the majority of its stockpile of 20-percent enriched uranium as part of the nuclear deal it struck with world powers, including Trump’s predecessor, president Barack Obama
I am not a dictator!...
. The accord, which lifted sanctions on Iran, currently caps the Islamic Theocratic Republic uranium enrichment at 5 percent.

While Iran long has maintained its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, uranium enriched to 20 percent and above can be used in nuclear bombs. Iran processed its stockpile of near 20 percent uranium into a lower enrichment, turned some into fuel plates to power a research reactor and shipped the rest to Russia as part of the deal.

The B.O. regime and most independent experts said at the time of the deal that Iran would need at least a year after abandoning the deal to have enough nuclear material to build a bomb. Before the deal was struck, they said the timeframe for Iran to "break out" toward a bomb was a couple of months.

While the economic benefits of the deal have yet to reach the average Iranian, airlines in the country have signed deals for billions of dollars of aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. Car manufacturers and others have swept into the Iranian market as well as the country has boosted its oil sales. Abandoning the deal would put those economic gains in jeopardy.

Rouhani, a moderate holy man within Iran’s theocratically overseen government, warned last week that it could ramp up its nuclear program and quickly achieve a more advanced level if the US continues "threats and sanctions" against his country.

Rouhani’s comments were sparked by Trump signing a sanctions bill imposing mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran’s ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them. The US legislation also applies terrorism sanctions to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and enforces an existing arms embargo.

Afghanistan
Junbish slams Gulbuddin Hekmatyar for his remarks regarding the new coalition
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Junbish-e-Millie party led by the first vice president General Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
has slammed the emir of Hezb-e-Islami regarding the new political coalition.

A front man for the party Bashir Ahmad Tahyanj said Hekmatyar should focus on implementation of his commitments and promises regarding the peace and stability of Afghanistan rather than having concerns regarding the new coalition.

Tahyanj further added that the new coalition has its own plans and programs for Afghanistan and therefore there is no room for the concerns of Hekmatyar.

Speaking to foreign news hounds nearly two weeks ago, Hekmatyar slammed the bigwigs actively working in the government for forming new anti-government political coalitions.

He said considering the internal situation of Afghanistan and its regional position, a strong central government is always a need along with a president who has full authorities, insisting that without this it would be difficult to ensure peace and bring stability in the country.

The leader of Hezb-e-Islami questioned the current government’s authorities, saying when a president is even prevented from appointing a governor by the internal and external circles, how such a government would be able to eliminate violence and govern on the nation.

Hekmatyar also criticized the senior government officials for the formation of the new political coalitions and expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
s regarding the threats, show of power, and rallies by their armed supporters.

He said billions of dollars have been embezzled, banks have been looted, hundreds of acres of land have been grabbed, and the government remains weak to try the perpetrators.

Trump’s Afghan strategy will cause more bloodshed, terrorism: Corbyn
[Iran Press TV] UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has called on the British government not to “obediently applaud” US President Donald Trump’s plan for the deployment of additional troops to Afghanistan and more bombing, saying the new American strategy will cause more bloodshed, and increase terrorism.
Doing anything at all, of course, only served to increase terrorism.

ESPN Pulls Asian-American Robert Lee From Broadcast For You Know Why
[OutKickTheCoverage] ESPN issues official statement on moving Robert Lee from Virginia game: "We collectively made the decision with Robert to switch games as the tragic events in Charlottesville were unfolding, simply because of the coincidence of his name. In that moment it felt right to all parties. It’s a shame that this is even a topic of conversation and we regret that who calls play by play for a football game has become an issue."

Additionally, I had a conversation with a senior employee at ESPN who wanted to make it clear that this was not a mandate or a demand from the company, that it was a people first decision and that assignments are switched all the time.

...

In a story that seems made for The Onion, but is actually true, according to multiple Outkick fans inside ESPN MSESPN decided to pull an Asian college football announcer named Robert Lee off the William and Mary at University of Virginia college football game because they were concerned that having an ASIAN FOOTBALL ANNOUNCER NAMED ROBERT LEE would be offensive to some viewers.

Did I mention that Robert Lee is Asian?

Is this even real life anymore? This might even be worse than MSESPN apologizing for the fantasy football slave draft a couple of weeks ago.

To avoid offending left wing idiots Robert Lee, the Asian college football announcer, not the Confederate General who died in 1870 and shares a name with him, was switched to the Youngstown State at Pittsburgh game and Dave Weekley will now call the William and Mary at University of Virginia game.

Unless someone tries to take down Dave Weekley statues between now and kickoff.

FO rejects Trump's allegations of terrorist 'safe havens' in Pakistan
[DAWN] The Foreign Office (FO) on Tuesday rejected United States (US) President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's allegations that Pakistain offers safe haven to "agents of chaos", as he announced America's new strategy on Afghanistan and South Asia.
"Rejecting" it makes it not so.
Talking tough on Pakistain, Trump had said, "We can no longer be silent about Pakistain's safe havens for terrorist organizations," warning that vital aid to Islamabad could be cut.

"We have been paying Pakistain billions and billions of dollars at the same time they are housing the very gunnies that we are fighting," he said. "That will have to change and that will change immediately."

The FO, issuing a rejoinder to the US president's statements said: "As a matter of policy, Pakistain does not allow use of its territory against any country. Instead of relying on the false narrative of safe havens, the US needs to work with Pakistain to eradicate terrorism."
Next step is to complain about Afghanistan harboring Mullah Fazlullah.
The FO said it is "disappointing that the US policy statement ignores the enormous sacrifices rendered by the Pak nation" in the fight against terrorism.
It's disappointing the Paks had Osama bin Laden living a half mile down the road from the national military academy and somehow didn't notice. It's disappointing that Mullah Omar died in a Pak hospital, and that his successor was dronezapped in Pakistain.
"No country in the world has done more than Pakistain to counter the menace of terrorism. No country in the world has suffered more than Pakistain from the scourge of terrorism, often perpetrated from outside our borders," the FO asserted.
No country in the world has more internationally recognized terror groups within its borders than Pakistain, with their leaders walking around openly and their operations continuing routinely.

Oberlin Council gets rid of Columbus Day
[CHRONICLET] With enthusiasm, the Oberlin City Council changed the second Monday in October from Columbus Day to Indigenous Peoples Day.

The unanimous vote for the resolution was anticipated, though it was not without opposition. Council voted about 8:15 p.m. Monday after nearly an hour of public comment from people for and against replacing the federally recognized holiday.

"I am in support, and believe it’s the right thing to do," Councilwoman Sharon Pearson said. Councilwoman Linda Slocum said she learned a lot about Christopher Columbus during the research of the resolution and came to the same conclusion. "Columbus has enjoyed 500 years of praise, and it’s now time to shift the spotlight," Slocum said.
Columbus badgered the Queen of Spain into hocking her jewels so he and his crews could set off for the horizon and discover a new world.
Council had worked for months to put together a resolution with input from the Indigenous Peoples Day Committee, a group of residents who have pushed to do away with Columbus Day.
No Iroquois or Shoshone or Pequod ever seems to have gotten into a canoe and sailed east to discover Europe.
Morning Dove Jean Simon spoke on behalf of the committee and thanked Council for its efforts.
That's probably why there aren't any teepees in Düsseldorf.
They do love cowboys and Indians over there, though, and square dancing in full regalia. It's all the fault of author Karl May and his wild west novels.
"We cannot remain invisible anymore," Simon said. "When the original people of the land speak up and speak out, it’s with great thought, and we’ve asked you to listen, and you’ve done that," Simon said. "The time for our healing is now. To quote an old Chinese proverb, ’Those who say it cannot be done should not interrupt those doing it.’ "

About the only pre-Indo-Europeans left in the Eurasian land mass in the west are probably the Basques. Goes back to the original question, how many generations? Oh, and then do those migrating from Central and South America get to be treated as non-natives as well? That'll be a fun exercise of interest groups vs interest groups.

‘Adopt-a-Nazi’ campaign raises funds to counter white nationalist free speech rally
A much better idea than Antifa viciousness, and as another contrast it's legal, though it seems to me that donating to Israel is a much more pointed response to actual Nazis. But as the group staging the rally are free speech advocates rather than Nazis, may I suggest they fly Israeli flags and tout Israel as a free speech oasis in a totalitarian desert, just to set up a proper cognitive dissonance in the minds of the deliberately ignorant idiots?
[IsraelTimes] Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party, attorney, local Jewish Bar Association behind tongue-in-cheek response to far-right ’free speech’ rally in the Socialist paradise of San Francisco on Saturday.

It sounds like a deal with the devil, but a new GoFundMe page that asks people to "Adopt-a-Nazi" is actually a fundraiser for a civil rights group.

the Socialist paradise of San Francisco
...where God struck dead Anton LaVey, home of the Sydney Ducks, ruled by Vigilance Committee from 1859 through 1867, reliably and volubly Democrat since 1964...
attorney Cody Harris and the Jewish Bar Association of San Francisco are behind the tongue-in-cheek response to a far-right "free speech" rally in San Francisco on Saturday

The campaign asks visitors to donate a small amount of money to the Southern Poverty Law Center by "sponsoring" each person expected to attend the rally. Some donors have pledged $6; others have given $600 or more. About 300 people are expected to attend the rally.

Launched on Thursday with an initial goal of $10,000, the campaign passed that target in 24 hours. The goal was changed to $100,000 and then to $125,000. As of Tuesday morning, more than $91,000 had been raised.

The link has been shared 10,000 times on Facebook.

"What it shows is that people want to do something positive," Harris said.

When Harris heard about the San Francisco rally, he was shocked that a national issue stirred by the events in Charlottesville, Virginia, was coming to his doorstep. He created the GoFundMe page "Adopt-a-Nazi (Not Really)" to raise money for the Southern Poverty Law Center, a national organization fighting hate and extremism and tracking neo-Nazi and white supremacist groups.

Harris came up with the idea after hearing about a town in Germany that countered a neo-Nazi parade in 2014 with a fundraiser to benefit anti-extremist groups. He asked the Jewish Bar Association of San Francisco, where he is a board member, to take on the effort.

The Saturday rally is being organized by the Portland-based group Patriot Prayer, whose events have been marked by festivities between protesters and counterprotesters. The group is led by Joey Gibson, a Trump supporter who has publicly denounced white supremacists but whose rallies still draw white nationalists, anti-Semites and self-described fascists, according to SPLC and other groups.

Gibson has said that security for the Patriot Prayer group will be provided by the Oath Keepers, an armed, militia-like group that the Anti-Defamation League has described as a "large but loosely organized collection of anti-government bad boys."

The rally, which has been condemned by local and national politicians and drawn opposition from around the Bay Area, has tentative approval from the National Park Service. A final decision is expected any day.

Bay Area Jewish leaders and Jewish organizations are split on how to respond to the rally and its "alt-right" message, which often contains racist and anti-Semitic tropes. Some plan to join counterprotests at Crissy Field, while others say the best response is to attend planned alternative, peaceful gatherings elsewhere.

One woman was killed and dozens were maimed when a car driven by a suspected white supremacist plowed into a crowd of counterprotesters following a far-right rally in Charlottesville on August 12.

Black Lives Matter Activist Unveils List of Demands to White People: ‘Give Up the Home You Own’
[BREITBART] Black Lives Matter activist Chanelle Helm released a list of "requests" to white people in the wake of the violence in Charlottesville, Virginia, this month.
Helm, the so-called "cofounder and core organizer of Black Lives Matter Louisville," explained in an article published at Leoweekly.com the things she says need to "change."

"White people, if you don’t have any descendants, will your property to a black or brown family. Preferably one that lives in generational poverty," Helm writes in an article titled "White people, here are 10 requests from a Black Lives Matter leader."

White people are asked, "Give up the home you own to a black or brown family," pass on any inherited property "to a black or brown family," or "re-budget your monthly so you can donate to black funds for land purchasing."

White women, especially, are urged to "get a racist fired" or "get your boss fired cause they racist too," Helms writes.

She concludes, "Commit to two things: Fighting white supremacy where and how you can (this doesn’t mean taking up knitting, unless you’re making scarves for black and brown kids in need), and funding black and brown people and their work."

Chaos Breaks Out at Charlottesville City Council Meeting
[MSN] They shouted down the mayor and City Council members, took over the Council chambers for about a half-hour, and gave more than four hours of impassioned testimony about how city officials had botched the response to the deadly white supremacist rally here this month.
They're counting on Short Attention Span Syndrome to keep them in power.
In the end, the angry residents who spoke at the Charlottesville City Council meeting on Monday got some measure of action as officials said they would have a third-party review the city’s planning and reaction to the rally. The Council also voted unanimously to take the first administrative steps to remove a statue of the Confederate general Stonewall Jackson in the city.
They took the statues down because somebody complained they wuz scared of them mean old Confederates.
That move was significant, as it was the Council’s decision earlier this year to remove a statue of Robert E. Lee that prompted the white nationalists to rally in the city earlier this month.

Monday’s meeting was the Council’s first since the rallies on Aug. 11 and 12 that brought hundreds of white supremacists to Charlottesville. White and black residents alike were furious with the police response to the demonstrations, and they faulted officers for not engaging during repeated scuffles. A woman, Heather D. Heyer, was killed when a man drove into counterprotesters.

The meeting started out without incident, but as soon as the rally was mentioned, several residents began shouting down city officials for allowing the Aug. 12 "Unite the Right" rally to take place. The chamber erupted, and when coppers forcibly removed three people, the 100 or so at the meeting broke out into furious chants of "Shame" and "Shut it down!" The three people were issued summonses charging them with disorderly conduct. No injuries were reported.

One was concerned with freedom of speech, another wanted to keep historical objects in place, and so on. Others wanted to keep things peaceful.
The object of the "unity march" was to protest the removal of the statue of a Confederate.
I understand that some bad people attended this, but I do not understand why everyone calls this a white supremacist event.
Actually, the City Council vote to remove the statue was three to two, and the mayor was one of the two against it.
Why was the march described as a Nazi event?
Being against removal of the statue was apparently something about which reasonable people could disagree.
In the video that I watched a woman taking part in the protest, while walking from one site to another under instructions from the police, fell to the ground, apparently hit by a rock thrown at her. This caused a number of other protesters to hang around with her. I was surprised to see no policeman or medic come to help her, as she lay on the ground for quite a while. though fellow protesters were trying to help her. After a while perhaps a dozen of the protestors were standing around her. An angry young man came up to them and said, why don't you get out of here. We don't want you. Someone politely answered that a woman had been hit by a rock and they were waiting for someone to help. Meanwhile a crowd of anti-Mazi's accumulated around them. At this point I stopped watching.

China-Japan-Koreas
US sanctions Chinese, Russians over N. Korea support
[IsraelTimes] 16 individuals and companies slapped with penalties over ties to Pyongyang nuclear program

The United States on Tuesday slapped sanctions on 16 Chinese and Russian individuals and companies, accusing them of supporting North Korea’s nuclear program and attempting to evade US sanctions.

“It is unacceptable for individuals and companies in China, Russia, and elsewhere to enable North Korea to generate income used to develop weapons of mass destruction and destabilize the region,” Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin said in a statement.

The Treasury Department, which oversees US sanctions programs, said those targeted by the sanctions had helped people known to support the North’s nuclear and ballistic missile programs, or had traded in North Korean energy, exploited its workers or acted as a conduit to the international financial system.

The move follows a war of words between Washington and Pyongyang over recent missile tests that show North Korea is capable of reaching the US mainland.

The sanctions effectively block their targets from accessing much of the global financial system, as well as freezing any US assets.

Among those hit by the sanctions was the Russian national Ruben Kirakosyan and his Moscow-based company Gefest-M LLC, which the Treasury Department accuses of procuring metals for a sanctions-barred company involved in North Korea’s nuclear weapons program, Korean Tangun Trading Corp.

Also targeted is China’s Dandong Rich Earth Trading Co. Ltd., which the United States says has acted on behalf of North Korea’s General Bureau of Atomic Energy — responsible for the North’s nuclear program — and has facilitated prohibited North Korean exports of vanadium ore, the department said.

A third company, Mingzheng International Trading Limited, which maintains offices in Hong Kong and on mainland China, was in fact a front for Foreign Trade Bank, North Korea’s main foreign exchange bank, the Treasury Department said.
Ynet adds:
The penalties are intended to complement new UN Security Council sanctions and further isolate North Korea for its nuclear and missile tests amid heightened tensions that have led to threats from both sides, the Treasury Department said in a statement.

After Trump's Afghan policy statement, China reaffirms support to Pakistan
[DAWN] Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday reaffirmed Beijing's support to Pakistan during a meeting with Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua hours after US President Donald Trump lambasted Pakistan for allegedly offering safe haven to "agents of chaos" in his South Asia policy announcement.
We guessed that.
Earlier, as Beijing came to Islamabad's defence in light of Trump's remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying asserted that Pakistan was on the front line in the struggle against terrorism and had made "great sacrifices" and "important contributions" in the fight, according to a Foreign Ministry handout.

Govt decides to amend Articles 62, 63 to reduce duration of disqualification
[DAWN] The government has decided to amend Articles 62 and 63 of the Constitution, Minister for Law and Justice Zahid Hamid said on Tuesday.
Those were the articles that got Nawaz tossed, of course.
The law minister made the announcement during a session of the National Assembly called to debate amendments to a proposed election law put forward by opposition parties.

He said the government will take up the matter with the reforms committee.

The government also rejected a suggestion forwarded by Muttahida Qaumi Movement to set the maximum duration of disqualification to five years.

Noting that there was no explicit duration for disqualification set under the current law, he said, "We want the duration of disqualification to be less than five years."

After Aiding Antifa, MSNBC Questions the ‘Pitfalls of Free Speech’
[NEWSBUSTERS.ORG] Over the course of last week, on NBC and MSNBC, host Chuck Todd gave a leg up to the violent Antifa
...purveyors of mindless lefty revolution...
movement by letting them defend their assaults on the police and innocent people not once, but twice. Todd’s interviews showed just how tolerant he was of those who use violence to shut down free speech. And while Todd was absent from MTP Daily on Monday, Katy Tur picked up his torch and proudly pushed back against the First Amendment’s acknowledgment of a person’s right to free speech.

"And challenging the First Amendment," Tur declared during the show’s opening tease. "Should holy warrior groups have the right to rally? We'll delve into the power and pitfalls of free speech."

When Tur finally got around to targeting free speech rights later in the show, she began by bringing up the controversial rally in Boston, Massachusetts, and counter-protest that dwarfed it. "Over the weekend the debate over free speech raged on," was how she described the events of Saturday, with no mention of the bystanders beaten or the police doused with bottles of urine by Antifa.

More Mosul Moslem Mayhem

ISIS recruitment official dies

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) A senior recruitment officer with the Islamic State was killed Tuesday as Iraqi forces, backed by paramilitary troops, entered a third day of operations to retake the town of Tal Afar, the group’s last stronghold in Nineveh province.

Intelligence sources told Shafaq News website that Abu Qatada al-Afri was killed in an airstrike while being in a group headquarter in central Tal Afar. Four other companions were also killed in the raid, said the sources.

Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi declared early Sunday the launch of operations to recapture the enclave where military commanders believe up to 2000 fighters are bunkered.

Over the past two days, Iraqi field commanders reported remarkable victories, saying government and paramilitary troops continue to advance towards the center of the town.

On Tuesday, the pro-government Popular Mobilization Forces said through their media that troops advanced towards the center of the town from the southeast. They also reported encounters in the south at al-Jazirah and “silo” regions.

Federal Police chief Shaker Jawdat said also that his forces took over 20 kilometers of Tal Afar, and began bombarding Kefah, Wahda and al-Saad regions on the western side of the town preparing to invade them.

The United Nations said at least 40.000 civilians fled the town since the start of operations.

Iraqi forces recaptured Mosul, Islamic State’s former capital, early July, marking an effective collapse of the group’s self-proclaimed “caliphate”.

Following Tal Afar, the Iraqi government eyes the few remaining IS havens in Anbar, Kirkuk and Salahuddin.

Iraqi troops enter central Tal Afar

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi forces reached Tuesday the center of Tal Afar as operations heighten to retake the group’s last bastion in Nineveh province.

The Defense Ministry’s War Media Cell said army troops, backed by the Popular Mobilization Forces, invaded the center of Tal Afar from the eastern direction and continue their advances.

Earlier on Tuesday, Badr Organization’s brigades, a component of the Popular Mobilization Forces, said through their media they took over Tarmi neighborhood, northwest of the enclave, in a joint effort with the government’s Federal Police forces.

The media service said troops circumvented a concrete barricade erected by the militants around the area, and seized several medium arms and rockets during their advance.

The WMC had also said army forces recaptured Teshtiya and Tal al-Samn villages, as well as al-Kasak oil refinery east of Tal Afar.

Also on Tuesday, Altaghier.TV quoted a source at the Iraqi army’s 16th division’s artillery forces saying that U.S. artillery began bombarding Islamic State locations in Tal Afar as part of the Iraqi campaign. The bombardment launched from the military base recently erected by the U.S. forces in Kahriz, near Tal Afar. It targeted IS defenses in al-Nour, al-Sarai, al-Nasr and al-Jazirah regions in the south.

Iraqi forces smoke 25 ISIS Bad Guys

Tal Afar (IraqiNews.com) Iraqi forces and paramilitary troops killed 25 Islamic State militants and foiled a drone attack as they gained more ground in Tal Afar, the group’s last entrenchment in Nineveh province.

The pro-government Popular Mobilization Forces’ media service said troops fully recaptured the districts of al-Kefah in the northwest and al-Nour in the southeast of the town.

Aljournal News website said the Interior Ministry’s Rapid Response Forces killed 15 IS members and detonated 12 explosive devices planted by the group in al-Kefah and Mulla Jassem regions, southwest of the town.

PMF media also said in a statement they killed ten militants in al-Khadraa district in the southeast, and detonated a booby-trapped vehicle driven by a suicide bomber before he attacked troops in the area.

Anadolu Agency also quoted Cap. Qusai al-Zawbai, from the Iraqi army, saying troops shot down a drone guided by the militants and supplied with two rockets before it attacked forces in the southern axis of operations.

Iraqi military media said earlier on Tuesday that troops invaded the center of the town from the east.

The Iraqi government plans to wage further offensives at other IS holdouts in Anbar, Kirkuk and Salahuddin once it is done with the recapture of Tal Afar, which commanders predict to be achieved soon.

US Navy to dismiss commander after collisions
[Iran Press TV] The US Navy is dismissing the commander of the fleet that has suffered four recent collisions in Asia, including two involving fatalities, according to reports.

Vice Admiral Joseph Aucoin, the commander of the US Seventh Fleet based in Yokosuka, Japan, will be relieved of command on Wednesday in connection with recent deadly collisions, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing US officials.

"An expedited change in leadership was needed," a US official told Rooters late on Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
This comes following an accident on Monday in which the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain collided with a merchant ship off Singapore, leaving 10 sailors missing.

The USS John S. McCain collided with the oil tanker Alnic MC on Monday morning local time while the guided-missile destroyer was passing near the Malacca Strait to make a port visit in Singapore, the Navy's 7th Fleet said in a statement.

The sailors are feared dead as US Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Scott Swift has announced that divers searching for the missing service members have found human remains in the warship.

"The divers were able to locate some remains in those sealed compartments during their search today," Swift told news hounds on Tuesday at Singapore's Changi Naval Base, where the damaged warship is docked.

Swift also said that Malaysian authorities, one of three countries involved in the major hunt for the missing sailors who are feared dead, had also found a body.

He added that the US Navy was trying to identify the body to see if it was one of 10 missing US sailors in the accident.

In June, another guided-missile destroyer, the USS Fitzgerald, collided with the Philippine-flagged merchant ship ACX Crystal 56 nautical miles southwest of Yokosuka, Japan. Seven US sailors were killed in that collision.

Popular Robots are Dangerously Easy to Hack, Cybersecurity Firm Says
[BLOOMBERG]
Some of the most popular industrial and consumer robots are dangerously easy to hack and could be turned into bugging devices or weapons, IOActive Inc. said.
I seen dis movie!
The Seattle-based cybersecurity firm found major security flaws in industrial models sold by Universal Robots, a division of U.S. technology company Cyberdyne Yoyodyne Teradyne Inc. It also cited issues with consumer robots Pepper and NAO, which are manufactured by Japan’s Softbank Group Corp., and the Alpha 1 and Alpha 2 made by China-based UBTech Robotics.

These vulnerabilities could allow the robots to be turned into surveillance devices, surreptitiously spying on their owners, or let them to be hijacked and used to physically harm people or damage property, the researchers wrote in a report released Tuesday.

Universal Robots’s devices are designed to work directly alongside humans without being confined to a cage for safety, as with many other industrial models. But IOActive was able to remotely hack the software that controls the robot and disable key safety features. This could result in them being programmed to injure the humans around them.

This is particularly worrying, IOActive said, because these machines are large enough and have enough power that "even running at low speeds, their force is more than sufficient to cause a skull fracture."

With the robots intended for home use ‐ SoftBank’s Pepper and NAO ‐ IOActive found that cyberattackers could use them to record audio and video and secretly transmit this data to an external server. UBTech’s Alpha series home robots did not encrypt sensitive information they captured before storing or transmitting it, opening an avenue for cybercriminals to potentially steal important personal information, IOActive said.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
In light of terrorism, support for Israel in Iraq rises
From August 8th, but still of interest.
[Ynet] The Israeli Foreign Ministry is surprised to receive thousands of messages from Iraq in support of Israel in light of the crisis on the Temple Mount and recent terror attacks, with Iraqis saying they 'recognize the State of Israel,' and even calling Paleostinians 'traitors and terrorists.'

Against the backdrop of the events on the Temple Mount and the recent terrorist attacks, the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem was very surprised to see a dramatic increase in the number of Israel sympathizers in Iraq.

Yonatan Gonen, head of Arabic-language digital diplomacy at the Foreign Ministry, who also runs the Foreign Ministry's Facebook and Twitter accounts, said that the ministry has been flooded with pictures and messages of sympathy, support and even a desire to establish relations between the two countries.

2 Israeli Jews converted to Islam, joined IS in Syria
[IsraelTimes] Woman, man who enlisted in terror group were both born in former Soviet Union and raised in Israel, according to Shin Bet; Interior Ministry set to strip citizenship of 19 jihadists

Two Israeli Jews have converted to Islam and joined the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Syria, according to the Shin Bet security agency.

The two were named on a list of 20 Israeli citizens, one of whom is now deceased, who joined the ranks of the jihadist group, Israel’s Channel 2 news reported Tuesday.

The two Israelis were born Jewish in the Soviet Union, immigrated to Israel at a young age, grew up in Israel, then converted to Islam as adults and traveled to Syria to join the ranks of IS. It was not immediately clear when the two left the country.

One, a 28-year-old woman, grew up in Ashdod. The other, Alex, a 32-year-old man, grew up in Lod.

Alex’s sister, who was not identified, told the TV station the family was in "shock" and is not in touch with him.

The list was drawn up for Interior Minister Aryeh Deri after a law went into effect this week allowing him to strip members of foreign terror organizations of their Israeli citizenship.

The list was made up mostly of Israeli Arabs, including two each from the towns of Fureidis, Kafr Kassem, Jaljoulya, Be’ena and East Jerusalem.

One person on the list died recently, while the list was being drawn up.

Deri is expected to formally strip them of their citizenship in the coming weeks.

The security service periodically releases information about individual Israelis who have left the country to join IS.

In March, a Belarusian-Israeli man was jugged
You have the right to remain silent...
as he attempted to join the Islamic State terrorist group in Syria, after expressing support for the group over the past year and a half. The suspect, Valentin Vladmir Mazlevski, a 39-year-old father of five, moved to Israel from Belarus in 1996 at age 18 and converted to Islam four years later, while he was serving in the Israel Defense Forces, the Shin Bet said.

2 acquitted in Bundy standoff
LAS VEGAS (AP) - A federal jury in Las Vegas has refused to convict four accused gunmen in a 2014 standoff with federal authorities near the Nevada ranch of anti-government figure Cliven Bundy.

In a verdict that stunned Bundy supporters, the jury on Tuesday acquitted Ricky Lovelien and Steven Stewart of all 10 charges against them.

Defendants Scott Drexler and Eric Parker were found not guilty of most of the charges against them.

The jury did not reach verdicts on four charges against Parker and two charges against Drexler.

Prosecutors said the men conspired with Bundy family members and wielded weapons to threaten the lives of federal agents enforcing lawful court orders to remove Bundy cattle from public land after failing to pay grazing fees.

...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has vowed success in Afghanistan, but analysts say his strategy contains nothing new against enemies which his predecessors could not defeat ─ a sobering assessment that points to endless war for weary civilians.

The US president vowed to leave American boots on the ground indefinitely while turning away from nation-building.

But his refusal to release details and define the conditions for victory have raised fears America's involvement in the conflict may never end.

"Strategy is about matching means to ends. I think we heard a lot about ends but rather little about means," James Der Derian, from the Centre for International Security Studies at the University of Sydney, told AFP.

Trump backtracked from previous promises to end America's longest-ever war during a primetime speech late Monday, paving the way for thousands more US soldiers to be sent to Afghanistan.

While he refused to offer detailed troop numbers, senior White House officials said he had already authorised US Defence Secretary James Mattis to deploy up to 3,900 more troops to Afghanistan.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Judge throws out $458,000 condo sale, says Clearwater attorney tricked bidders
[TBO] Pinellas County Circuit Judge Jack St. Arnold on Monday threw out the $458,100 sale of a gulf-front condo because of what he called an "unscrupulous" and "conniving" scheme to trick bidders at a foreclosure auction.

His ruling means that the owners of Orlando Realty Group will get back the money they bid on what turned out to be a second mortgage held by a company connected to Clearwater attorney Roy Skelton. Only later did the bidders discover that a different lender had a superior first mortgage and could soon foreclose, leaving them with no condo and out nearly a half million dollars.

While he rapped Orlando Realty for not doing sufficient due diligence before bidding, St. Arnold had especially harsh words for Skelton.

"Clearly you set a trap for unwary buyers," the judge said.

Skelton said after the hearing that he would either sell the unit in the Ram-Sea Condominiums on North Redington Beach or try to pay off the first mortgage.

"While I respectfully disagreed with the judge's decision, I will respect it and will not file an appeal," Skelton said.

Two years ago, Skelton's Outbidya, Inc. paid $157,8000 for the condo at a homeowners association foreclosure auction. Last year, shortly after Wells Fargo began foreclosing on the first mortgage, Skelton created Deutsche Residential Mortgage -- no relation to the giant German bank -- and took back a second mortgage from Outbidya.

In February, while Wells Fargo's case dragged along, Skelton's Deutsche obtained a final judgement of foreclosure on its second mortgage and set the stage for the contested June auction.

The sole witness at Monday's hearing -- which was held on an emergency motion to set aside the sale -- was John Houde, who owns Orlando Realty Group with his wife.

Houde testified that he thought the auction involved a first mortgage because the only lis pendens -- initial notice of foreclosure -- he saw was filed by Wells Fargo. Before bidding, he said, he reviewed public records including the docket in the bank's case.

"I've done quite a number of these," Houde said, referring to online foreclosure auctions. "This (review) is to make sure which mortgage is foreclosing."

But under questioning from Skelton, Houde acknowledged that he had not read the entire final judgment, which showed that Deutsche Residential held the mortgage being foreclosed. Skelton also accused Houde of committing fraud by indicating in the online auction process that he had thoroughly read all documents in the case even though he had not.

"He comes with unclean hands," Skelton said.

Skelton and Matthew Weidner, one of Houde's lawyers, traded sometimes dense legal and technical arguments in the 90-minute hearing -- which included a brief recess to watch the eclipse. But another of Houde's attorneys, Jon McGraw, was more straightforward in his remarks.

"It's a very cunning plan by Mr. Skelton and his group," McGraw said and one in which Orlando Realty "stands to lose a substantial amount of money."

Before ruling, St. Arnold said Houde's company had failed to do its due diligence "in a competent manner," and added that he had little sympathy for bidders at foreclosure auctions who "pick on the bones" of people who lost their homes.

But, calling it a case of "complicit versus conniving," the judge said in effect that he found Skelton's actions much more egregious. The mortgage company Skelton set up "was not a legitimate lender," St. Arnold said, and its sole purpose was to further a scheme to reap "an unconscionable profit."

Skelton, who conceded that his Deutsche Residential never made a single loan, is involved in a similar case in which a person thought he was bidding on a first mortgage on a Largo townhome owned by another of Skelton's companies. That buyer forfeited a $5,000 deposit rather than go through with the $112,000 purchase.

Despite the judge's criticism of him, Houde was relieved to be getting his money back.

"You shouldn't be allowed to create a scheme to defraud buyers," he said.

US-led strikes kill more than 170 Raqqa civilians human shields, monitor, sources say
[Ynet] More than 170 civilians have been killed by US-led strikes on Islamic State

in Raqqa city in the past week, a spike in casualties since an offensive to oust the murderous Moslems began more than two months ago, a war monitor and sources said.

The US-led coalition against Islamic State said attacks on Death Eater targets were conducted routinely and the allegation had been sent to their teams for assessment.

The monitoring group Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said at least 42 people, including 19 children and 12 women, were killed on Monday in strikes that destroyed buildings where families were sheltering.

The Britannia-based Observatory said that was the single largest daily corpse count since the US-backed Syria Democratic Forces (SDF), a group of Kurdish and Arab militias, began their assault on Raqqa last June after a long campaign to isolate Islamic State inside the city.

Police nab Hebron man suspected of trying to smuggle gun into Israel
[IsraelTimes] Upon arrest, Jordanian national living in West Bank says he was paid to drive the car, in which an M-4 assault rifle was found

Israeli troops tossed in the calaboose
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
a Hebron man in possession of an M-4 assault rifle as he was apparently trying to smuggle it into Israel from the southern West Bank on Monday night, officials said.

According to police, the suspect, a Jordanian national living in Hebron, drove through a barricade that had been set up in the southern Hebron Hills in light of intelligence gathered by detectives.

As he sped away, coppers gave chase in their car. The man, 30, abandoned his vehicle and took off on foot, with the detectives in pursuit.

He was arrested near the area of Tel Arad in the southern Hebron Hills, police said.

Inside the car, the detectives found the M-4 assault rifle with a fully loaded magazine. In his interrogation, the suspect said he was paid NIS 500 ($140) to drive the car into Israel. According to police, the man knew a gun was inside the vehicle.

Footage of the arrest was captured by a soldier from the Combat Intelligence Corps who was monitoring the scene through a surveillance camera, the army said.

Police said they would be bringing the suspect before a judge on Tuesday in order to keep him in jug.

The arrest came a day after the army said it found an M-16 assault rifle in the car of a suspect who ran off while being stopped in the northern West Bank. That suspect remains on the lam.

In a separate operation in the West Bank early Tuesday morning, the military also confiscated a locally produced improvised gun in the Paleostinian town of al-Shuyukh, near Hebron, the military said.

The owner of the firearm was also arrested, an army spokesperson said.

North Korea shipments to Syria chemical arms agency intercepted: U.N. report
[REUTERS] Two North Korean shipments to a Syrian government agency responsible for the country's chemical weapons program were intercepted in the past six months, according to a confidential United Nations
...a lucrative dumping ground for the relatives of dictators and party hacks...
report on North Korea sanctions violations.
Don't that sour yer kimchi?
The report by a panel of independent U.N. experts, which was submitted to the U.N. Security Council earlier this month and seen by Rooters on Monday, gave no details on when or where the interdictions occurred or what the shipments contained.

"The panel is investigating reported prohibited chemical, ballistic missile and conventional arms cooperation between Syria and the DPRK (North Korea)," the experts wrote in the 37-page report.

"Two member states interdicted shipments destined for Syria. Another Member state informed the panel that it had reasons to believe that the goods were part of a KOMID contract with Syria," according to the report.

KOMID is the Korea Mining Development Trading Corporation. It was blacklisted by the Security Council in 2009 and described as Pyongyang's key arms dealer and exporter of equipment related to ballistic missiles and conventional weapons. In March 2016 the council also blacklisted two KOMID representatives in Syria.

Afghanistan
Former Klingon Director: President Trump Afghan Strategy Similar to Soetoro's
[Breitbart] Monday on CNN’s "The Lead," while discussing President Donald Trump’s upcoming speech on Afghanistan, former CIA and NSA director Gen. Michael Hayden said Trump’s strategy in Afghanistan was likely "the decision that President Obama would have made."

Hayden said, "You know what the goods news is? It’s that the decision the president is going to announce tonight is the product of what I would call regular order. This isn’t a tweet in the middle of the night. This is a result of long deliberations within the national security council, discussions with the president, a decision by the president. And now the president is going to lay out the decision in a full-fledged speech so that he can put it into a broader context. So that’s the good news with regard to what’s happening tonight."

He added, "Frankly, this is probably the decision that President Obama would have made, harvesting the lessons for his 2011 decision in Iraq, but he delayed it. He deferred to the incoming administration for what I think are quite legitimate reasons. But now we have President Trump, who quite often campaigned with a completely different tone, embracing what I think the previous administration would have done."

'Afghanistan to become graveyard for US,' warn Taliban after Trump clears way for more troops
[DAWN] The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
warned on Tuesday that Afghanistan would become a "graveyard" for the United States after President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
cleared the way for thousands more American troops to be sent to the war-torn country.

"If America doesn't withdraw its troops, soon Afghanistan will become another graveyard for this superpower in the 21st century," Taliban front man Zabiullah Mujahid said in a statement.

The Taliban further dismissed Donald Trump's strategy for Afghanistan as vague and "nothing new".

"For now I can tell you there was nothing new in his speech and it was very unclear," Mujahid told AFP.

UN: Boko Haram use of kids as 'human bombs' soars in 2017
[Ynet] UNICEF is reporting a four-fold increase in use of children as "human bombs" by the radical Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
group in northeastern Nigeria already this year compared to all of 2016.

UNICEF spokeswoman Marixie Mercado says she has no explanation for the increase to 83 such "human bomb" children, two-thirds of them girls, compared to 19 total children last year.

She said Boko Haram does not always claim responsibility for such attacks typically against civilian targets, but no other groups are known to use the tactic.

A side-effect is that "many children who have managed to get away from captivity face rejection when they try to reintegrate into their communities."

The UN estimates the insurgency has displaced 1.7 million people and left an estimated 20,000 people dead since 2009.
