The Bear's Lair: China's coming Austrian collapse
h/t Instapundit
There is just one problem: China’s economic statistics are largely fictitious, and the gap between statistics and reality is growing ever larger. If the statistics are nonsense, then probably the economic power is nonsense as well.

The most egregious flaw in China’s statistics is the savings rate. For decades we have been told that the Chinese people are extraordinary savers, with a savings rate of some 46% of GDP, according to the latest figures, compared with around 6.8% of GDP (Itself a figure recently and dubiously inflated by the Bureau of Economic Analysis) in the United States. Touchingly sentimental pictures are painted of the noble impoverished Chinese, earning one fiftieth of a Western wage but nevertheless saving nearly half of that pittance, seven times the American rate of saving, because of the country’s notorious lack of social services for the elderly.

If China really had a savings rate of 46%, the economy would look quite different. There would be very little debt in the system; the banks would have a very low loans to deposits ratio and low leverage, like banks in nineteenth century Britain. Consumer debt would be almost non-existent, while the Chinese market would have an enormous variety of saving and investment schemes, to take care of all the accumulated wealth. New company formation would be very high, but "venture capital" would be very scarce, because new companies would be capitalized from the savings of the founders’ relatives and friends. Overall, China might well have a rapid growth rate, but it would be a very contented, stable economy.

A recent Financial Times examination of China’s economy illustrates the problem; it shows consumer debt almost doubling as a share of GDP, from roughly 20% to 40% in the last five years and tells pathetic stories of young, highly educated Chinese who max out their credit cards, desperately hoping to boost their earnings sufficiently to pay that debt back. But Chinese elite youths brought up in a society with a 46% savings rate would have neither the desire nor the need for heavy credit card usage. First, they would have been brought up in families with a fanatical devotion to deferring consumption, so would regard the over-indebted Western Millennial lifestyle with undiluted horror. Second, because of their families’ savings habits, such elite youths would be beneficiaries of very substantial trust funds from their relatives, and so would have no need of credit cards.

If the savings rate is fiction, then so are all China’s economic statistics. GDP is at least one third lower than claimed, to account for the missing savings, and growth rates over the last decades correspondingly lower, On the other hand, China’s foreign debt is all too real, and most of the domestic debt also appears to be solid, so China’ s gross debt, already alarmingly high at 299% of GDP according to the Institute for International Finance, is in reality about 450% of true GDP, substantially higher than that of any other country. With such a level of debt, China is not about to overtake the West, it is in imminent danger of collapse. Indeed, it is at first sight something of a mystery why it has not collapsed already under the weight of its excesses.

#2  Seriously, I suspect the reason spending is so high is that they're dealing with a vastly inflated real estate market where it's seen as the only real hedge against inflation available.

#3  Ahhh, here it is - Austrian economists'

Much of China’s investment in the last quarter-century, domestic and international, has been “malinvestment” in the Austrian economists’ use of that term; and must be liquidated for the economy to regain its health.

#5  Economics is not the forte of socialists (or recent socialist). Honest reporting of information up the autocratic/bureaucratic chain is about the same (about on par with our own Legacy Infotainment Enterprises). China’s foreign debt is all too real but manageable by the usual refusal to pay, amply demonstrated by other one party regimes. The question is can they re-capitalize themselves afterward without dependence upon international trade/commerce.

Feinstein, Strzok, and the Sinister Russia Probe
h/t Instapundit
One of the salient facts to remember in the wake of the firing (finally!) of Peter Strzok is that the man was the chief of the Counterespionage Section of the FBI. That means the man in charge of counterespionage for the Unites States of America was conducting an extramarital affair with another important Justice Department employee via text messages that could easily have been hacked by a high school student.

...Now roll back five years to when it was discovered that Dianne Feinstein's chauffeur of twenty years (!) was a spy for the People's Republic of China. (Well, five years for Dianne. The rest of us found out only last week.)

How was it possible the then-chair of the Senate Intelligence Committee was under such intimate covert surveillance by China for decades? Where was our counterespionage on that one? Not doing a lot of countering.

...These two events separated by just a few years demonstrate incompetence in the extreme. But they are far from alone. Michael Ledeen in an article at this site detailed a host of errors by our intelligence agencies over the years, from the complete misjudgment of the Soviet Union onward to missing 9/11, the Boston Marathon, etc.

So what does that record of malfeasance add up to? What is its twisted progeny? What else but The Russia Probe itself?

After decades of failure safely hidden by codes of bureaucratic silence, a new administration arrives -- or threatens to arrive -- with a wild card president. That immediately spells trouble for these intelligence bureaucracies. Indeed, it clearly spelled trouble before he arrived. They tried to head it off at the pass.

How better then to distract from being investigated than to launch an investigation of the person (or persons) that would normally be investigating you. In that way they would be following the normal pattern of bureaucracies as detailed in Benda's The Treason of the Intellectuals, first failing and then protecting themselves through omertà. And our intelligence agencies are nothing if not bureaucracies, bloated ones at that.

...So... a Russia Probe. How better, once again, for Brennan, Clapper, Comey, et al. to avoid being brought to justice or even being given much scrutiny for what they did? And they were doubtless aided and abetted by the previous administration, their willing collaborators and/or instigators.

Separately or together they had the solution. Bring someone else far less criminal to the dock -- like Michael Flynn, who had had the temerity to criticize their beloved Iran Deal. Let that poor sucker take the heat. Put good old Strzok in there to sink him. Then accuse a president -- who, conveniently, has a tendency toward malapropisms -- of covering up whatever (it doesn't matter -- pick anything). With any luck they can nail that president for perjury or that most heinous of sins, lying to the FBI. He could be a second Martha Stewart. Then they're really off the hook. Rabid dogs of the press and the opposition party will demand impeachment. Again, it doesn't matter for what as long as it happens. Distraction is all.

And lucky for them they have two functional eunuchs standing by, ever willing to protect the organization at the expense of the truth -- Christopher Wray and Jeff Sessions. People like that have the gift of convincing themselves that they are doing good when they are doing the opposite.

Speaking of which, Inspector General Michael Horowitz is due for a report about all this. His first, about the Clinton email scandal, was a sophisticated whitewash. The second is about a subject yet more important -- the essence of the FBI itself. Will it be a second whitewash? If it is, as Jerry Garcia once said, "Trouble ahead, trouble behind..."

Censorship Ho! Let's censor the Mormon Church off of YouTube.
This was posted on facebook with the YouTube take down. I am not a Fan of the Mormon Church or other groups but this take down is telling and NOTE that Scientology Videos are still hosted by YouTube.

Facebook Link
Apparently, YouTube has now taken down the Mormon Channel. This was the media channel of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-Day Saints. There are other LDS-related channels, but I’m told that was the one where they shared their inspirational videos and such.

I tried searching for the YouTube Mormon Channel. The link comes up but it’s dead.

https://www.youtube.com/channel/UCdNjexbIS_NKJC4ZRwKf9ag

Before any rando idiots come piling in with their repetitive crap, yes, I understand that this is not technically a violation of the Church’s rights, that YouTube is a private platform, etc. As with Alex Jones, that’s not the point.

So, according to Google, Alex Jones was the worst and had to go, and one rung below Infowars on the ladder of evil are the Mormons? Are you kidding me?

I bet they’ll walk it back and restore it, and they will claim it was an “error”, just like with the gun channels. It might depend on how much backlash there is.

I told you guys this wouldn’t end with Alex Jones.

Lawmakers impeach all 4 West Virginia high court justices over spending
[SD Union Tribune] West Virginia lawmakers completed the extraordinary move of impeaching all four state Supreme Court justices Monday night for spending issues, including a suspended justice facing a 23-count federal indictment.

The state House of Delegates voted to impeach Justice Allen Loughry on eight articles, setting the stage for a trial in the state Senate.

Beth Walker became the final justice to be impeached when an article was approved stating all four justices abused their authority. It said they failed to control office expenses, including more than $1 million in renovations to their individual offices, and not maintaining policies over matters such as working lunches and the use of state vehicles and office computers at home.

Walker had dodged impeachment earlier Monday night when lawmakers decided to overlook her $131,000 in spending on office renovations. A short time later, another article was withdrawn against Chief Justice Margaret Workman, who spent $111,000 in renovations.

Justice Robin Davis was impeached for $500,000 in office renovations. And lawmakers approved articles against Loughry for spending $363,000 in renovations to his office; having a $42,000 antique desk and computers, all owned by the state, at his home; lying to the House Finance Committee about taking home the desk and a $32,000 suede leather couch; and for his personal use of state vehicles.

Loughry, Workman and Davis also were impeached for their roles in allowing senior status judges to be paid higher than allowed wages. Lawmakers say the overpayments violated state law and stopped when they were challenged by the Internal Revenue Service.

Another impeachment article was withdrawn dealing with an accusation Loughry used state money to frame personal items at his office.

Minority Democrats on the House Judiciary Committee that approved the articles last week had tried to speed up the impeachment process in the hopes of beating a Tuesday deadline for arranging a special election in November if any justice is removed from office or leaves office. Instead, the committee took its time, even conducting a tour of the state Supreme Court offices earlier this month.

Republican Gov. Jim Justice will be allowed to appoint new justices to replace any who are impeached ‐ with no requirement that they be from the same party as the incumbent.

Democrats have accused Republicans of attempting to wrest the court away from voters, who elected the current justices in nonpartisan elections.

The Grand Turk
Zeihan: Turkey’s Growing Pains
American relations with Turkey got very interesting last week.

An ongoing disagreement over the status of an American pastor, Andrew Craig Brunson, who thought it a good idea to proselytize in a country who officially, firmly, repeatedly warned him such actions were both unwelcome and unwise, has built up into a full-throated international incident. Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan’s base is Islamist social conservatives while Donald Trump’s core coalition includes Christian social conservatives. The Turks arrested Brunson, the Trump administration wants Brunson released, the Turks said no, and here we are.

Turkey’s currency, the lira, has been struggling for years in no small part due to the political pressure Erdogan and his supporters have placed on the central bank to keep interest rates artificially low. Rising inflation peaked over the weekend when the lira fell to record lows, with Erdogan still voicing support for interest rates to remain as low as possible. (High interest rates are typically anathema to construction firms, and much of Erdogan’s political machinery has been financed in the past by large Turkish firms who have benefitted from the infrastructure and construction boom since his time in office.) Fuel was added to the fire of monetary weakness from a once unthinkable source: the United States.

On August 10 U.S. President Donald Trump announced a doubling of the United States’ tariffs on imports of Turkish steel and aluminum, expressly linking the new tariff levels to the Brunson dispute. This is hardly the first time the Americans have used economic sanctions to get their way. Sanctions against strategic rivals such as the Soviet Union or North Korea are a time-honored tradition, as are sanctions in preparation for military action such as in the months leading up to the pair of invasions of Iraq. Similarly, tariffs are a common tool in economic arguments and trade disputes.

But to my recollection, this is the first time the Americans have ever used such tools in a political dispute against an ally.

A few things come from this:

First, the American-Turkish alliance is over.

I’m not talking NATO here – NATO is already dead. I’m talking bilateral arrangements. The United States and Turkey have had a long and largely productive military relationship since the 1950s, with Turkish military bases proving central to American foreign policy goals as regards the Eastern Mediterranean, Israel, Lebanon, Syria, Iraq, Iran, the former Yugoslavia, the Black Sea, and the Caucasus.

The partnership has been built on a pair of unshakable facts.
Turkey’s long history and relatively diversified, robust economy makes it the only power touching the Middle East that is capable, stable, reliable and whose assistance doesn’t generate more problems than it solves.
Turkey’s location between Europe and Asia, between the former Soviet space and the Mediterranean, makes it the central clearinghouse for any out-of-region power that seeks to project power into all four zones.
During the first Gulf War, the Turks allowed the US to use Incirlik airbase to attack Iraqi positions in exchange for financial aid. After Erdogan rose to power in 2003 and denied the Americans’ use of Incirlik due to concerns over Kurdish empowerment, the US military had to find longer, costlier workarounds to achieve their goals. Turkey lost out on the economic aid, but demonstrated its leverage. ...

#1  The American/Turkish alliance has been dead for a while. Erdogan is going full islamic military dictatorship and state. I do disagree that the US is suddenly leaving the ME. While we might leave Turkey, I can't see our leaders giving up the rest of the area especially with Russia and Iran trying to move in again.

Turkey might bounce back, but there is no guarantee of it or it becoming a regional power. If it takes Iran's path, it will see its power diminished as it will not only be more isolated from the west, but it will be clashing with Iran and the other powers in the area for control.

#2  The good pastor has been quietly tending his flock in a quiet corner of Turkey for over two decades without any significant issues until his recent arrest, if I understand correctly. He was taken up by the authorities strictly to be traded for Fethullen Gulen in the time-honoured Moslem way seen also in Iran, only President Trump is refusing to play. I suspect more Americans and other Westerners will be collected for the purpose until the president either gives in or does something drastic to demonstrate to Sultin Erdogan I that he needs to make much better choices. I would suggest destroying a public wing of his fancy new palace, though that’s not at all diplomatic.

#5  The entire reason we had Turkey in NATO in the first place was to flank Russia. Thus in Operation Barbarossa Part 2 we can flank them and present them with two avenues of advance: one from NATO territory in Europe and one from Turkey into the Caucasus. Thus we avoid the mistakes of the Nazis.

#7  Actually the Trump administration did play, though 'playing' was a mistake in this instance.

Brunson was supposed to be freed in exchange for Israel releasing a Turkish Hamas operative. Ms Hamas was then freed, Brunson wasn't.

Erdogan simply refused to honor his obligation. He altered the deal and told Trump to pray that he wouldn't alter it further.

Swim Caps Are Keeping Black Women Out of Pools
[Atlantic] Their limited design is yet another contributor to America’s racial disparities in swimming.

Noelle Singleton challenges any swim-cap maker who claims a swimmer’s hair won’t get wet with their caps to send her one. She’ll post a review on social media of her swimming a 100-meter individual medley in it.

Swim caps matter for Singleton, a 30-year-old black swim coach in Georgia with a thick, full-moon-shaped afro. Known on her AfroSwimmers Instagram account as Coach With the Fro, she has been offering swim lessons that target the black community for 16 years. The first question she always gets from female clients, she says, is: "What do I do with my hair?" She gives them tips, including which swim caps to buy. But, "I tell them up front: Please expect your hair to get wet," Singleton says.

Historically, swimming pools have played a murky part in racial segregation and disparity in the United States. Despite a public-pool boom in the 1950s and ’60s, generations of black people have not learned how to swim. In 2017, a report from the USA Swimming Foundation found that 64.2 percent of black adults said they had no or low swimming abilities, versus 39.7 percent of white people. Among the black parents in that group, 78 percent said their children had no or low swimming abilities, too.

Numerous factors contribute to why blacks are less likely to swim: a lack of lap pools to learn in, a lack of representation in water sports, a fear of drowning, and a lack of affordable swim lessons. But one thing that’s often overlooked is that swim caps aren’t designed to protect common hairstyles among black women, adding yet another barrier to their participation in swimming, kayaking, water polo, diving, and other aquatic activities. "It’s an epidemic," Singleton says of their exclusion.

For black women, hair is a long-standing point of pride, self-expression, status, and heritage. Some women will spend hundreds of dollars‐and sit for hours‐to get box braids or install a weave. That’s not including the hair products required for daily maintenance. All this makes swimming risky. Chlorine can damage the softness of an afro, the tightness of a box braid or sisterlock, or the clean scalp hidden under a sew-in weave. #5  If it’s that important, find a product designer to design a swim cap to accomodate a much larger volume of hair, set up a company to manufacture them, and rake in the dough. There are companies that manufacture special products for African-American hair, cosmetics for African-American skin tones, clothing for African-American body types and taste, magazines for African-American audiences, and musicians from and for African-American audiences, some of whom have later caught the attention of broader audiences. The black community has never waited for white folks to get around to meeting their needs before, which suggests either a certain lack of imagination now or SJW posturing on the part of this coach.

Turkey crisis: Erdogan vows to boycott US electronics
[Ajazeera] Turkey's president fired a new salvo in the growing war of words with the United States on Tuesday, saying Ankara will boycott all American-made electronic products.

Showing no signs of backing down in the standoff, President Recep Tayyip Erdogan said Turkey would stop procuring US-made iPhones and buy Korean Samsung or Turkish-made Vestel products instead.

"If they have the iPhone, there is Samsung elsewhere. We have Vestel." It was unclear how Erdogan intended to enforce the boycott.

Over the last few days, Turkey has seen a significant devaluation of its currency the lira, which has lost more than 45 percent of its value this year.

Europe
Gothenburg, Sweden 'carbeque' - parents called, no arrests made
[Breitbart UK] A gang of masked "youths" rampaged through Sweden’s second-largest city Monday night, setting cars ablaze in an attack described as "extremely organised" and like a military operation by the Prime Minister.

Shocking video of fire engulfing numerous vehicles in Gothenburg spread on social media Monday evening with other footage clearly showing masked people in dark clothing intentionally lighting the blazes.

Police chose not to arrest the "young people" at the scene and have since contacted their parents, reports state.

Officers said Tuesday that up to 100 cars had been either burnt to or vandalized in the city and in nearby towns such as Trollhattan, an industrial area with high unemployment, and Falkenberg.

Falkenberg contains gender-segregated asylum seeker homes and police have been repeatedly attacked en mass in nearby Trollhattan, with well knows Islamic State fighters hailing from the area.

Such areas, with large migrant populations, have become hotspots for violence in the Nordic nation in recent years with many described as "no-go zones."

#5  The Local (Sweden) adds:

One witness, who asked to be named only as Robert, told The Local he had seen a group of half a dozen people torch cars in the car park outside his home in Frölunda. His wife called the emergency services.

"We were very surprised. This area is usually very calm. Nothing like this has ever happened before. Six months ago it happened on the other side of the square. We've been living here for eight years," he said.

"We know from experience that these kinds of fires more often happen the week before schools start than other weeks," police spokesperson Ulla Brehm told the Swedish news agency TT.

I suspect this is the action of “migrant” yoots rather than natives, hinted at by Skidmark’s BBC article comparing this round of car-b-ques with the Moslem colonist riots of 2013:

There is no clear motive for the widespread destruction, but the arson echoes the damage done during riots in Stockholm over several nights in May 2013.

They followed the death of an elderly man who threatened police - vehicles were set alight in poor immigrant neighbourhoods, also by masked youths.

The 2013 riots sparked a debate about immigration in some circles, and unemployment and the widening gap between rich and poor in others.

Sweden is firmly in election season ahead of September's polls, and immigration remains a key issue.

#13  According to the Daily Mail, it went much farther than just Gothenburg:

Dozens of vehicles burned in Sweden's four major cities - Stockholm, Malmo, Gothenburg and Uppsala - on Monday evening and in the early hours of Tuesday.

Systematically setting cars on fire has become a associated with gang violence in suburbs in Sweden's major cities.

More Than Half of Foreign Refugees Are on Taxpayer-Funded Food Stamps
[Breitbart] More than half of the annual inflow of foreign refugees arriving in the United States are on food stamps, a government report reveals.

Since 2008, as Breitbart News reported, the U.S. has permanently resettled more than 1.7 million foreign nationals and refugees through a variety of humanitarian programs like the Special Immigrant Juveniles and the Nicaraguan Adjustment and Central American Relief Act. This is a foreign population larger than Philadelphia, Pennsylvania ‐ a city with more than 1.5 million residents.

An annual report by the Office of Refugee Resettlement was analyzed by the Center for Immigration Studies’ Jason Richwine, in which the analyst revealed that about 56 percent of households headed by foreign refugees who arrived in the U.S. between 2011 and 2015 are using taxpayer-funded food stamps.

Nearly 30 percent of refugees received cash welfare of some sort, while 34 percent of refugees 18-years-old or older said they had no health insurance. Of the refugees who said they did have health insurance, about 50 percent said they were either on Medicaid or Refugee Medical Assistance, both of which are taxpayer-funded.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Rudy Giuliani: Ex-CIA Director Behind The Entire Mueller Investigation
[Daily Caller] President Trump’s lawyer Rudy Giuliani announced on Monday evening that he believes former CIA Director John Brennan is the person responsible for the entire Mueller investigation. Giuliani made the claim during a segment of "Hannity" on Fox News.

"She got off because of that fixed investigation. A totally phony fixed investigation run by Peter Strzok who then turns around, the dossier is obtained on the day that they dropped the case against Trump ‐ against Hillary. So that case gets dropped and they had to even up the score," Giuliani stated.

"The reality is I’m going to tell you. We don’t have the time to go into it, we can do it later, I’m going to tell you who was the quarterback for all of this. It isn’t just Strzok. Strzok is a bit of a puppet. Then there’s Mueller, he’s a puppet. The people working for him, some of them are," he continued.

Hannity cut of Giuliani saying, "I have a funny feeling you are about to drop a bomb on me."

Giuliani and Hannity were discussing the firing of disgraced FBI agent Peter Strzok, which happened earlier on Monday. (RELATED: ’Finally’: Trump Cheers Strzok Firing From FBI, Wants Russia Probe Dropped)

"Well the guy running it is [John] Brennan and he should be in front of a grand jury. Brennan took an affidavit ‐ a dossier, unless he’s the biggest idiot intelligence agent that ever existed, although he never did much intelligence work, it’s false. You could look at it and laugh," Giuliani stated.

Queer woman sexually harasses a gay man
A sexual harassment scandal that has rocked New York University centers around two academics with Israeli roots.

The New York Times revealed on Monday that NYU has suspended Prof. Avital Ronell after an investigation found her responsible for sexually harassing her former student, Nimrod Reitman.

Ronell, a world-renowned professor of philosophy and German and comparative literature, was found to have verbally and physically sexually harassed Reitman over a period of three years.

Ronell was born in Prague to Israeli diplomats, and moved to New York at a young age. Her work in the fields of literary studies, feminist theory and psychoanalysis have gained her international acclaim in the academic world.

In 2017, two years after he graduated from an NYU doctoral program, Reitman filed a complaint to NYU about Ronell's behavior, according to the university newspaper Washington Square News.

Reitman alleged that Ronell touched him and kissed him without his consent, sent him dozens of inappropriate emails and text messages and even insisted on sleeping in his bed. Reitman accused Ronell of threatening not to work with him and retaliating against his professional career for not giving into her demands.

Reitman, who is currently a visiting fellow at Harvard University, is a native Israeli, who received his bachelor's and master's degree from Tel Aviv University. Reitman is gay and now married, and Ronell has identified herself as queer.

The professor told The New York Times that their relationship was not how Reitman described it.

"Our communications - which Reitman now claims constituted sexual harassment - were between two adults, a gay man and a queer woman, who share an Israeli heritage, as well as a penchant for florid and campy communications arising from our common academic backgrounds and sensibilities," she wrote. "These communications were repeatedly invited, responded to and encouraged by him over a period of three years."

SJW's Flip Over "DOOM: Eternal" As It Mocks Leftist Political Correctness On Immigration
...During the recent QuakeCon in Grapvine, Texas at the Gaylord Texan Resort & Convention Center, Bethesda Software gave a 25 minute presentation of their new game "DOOM: Eternal." It was during the uninterrupted game play footage that we’re introduced to a holographic "greeter" artificial intelligence.

While this AI only appears several times throughout the gory video, when she does she spouts things that sound an awful lot like what a politically correct, sterilized, social justice figure would say. Apparently, her job is to encourage humans to greet the monstrous demons that have found their way into our realm with kindness and acceptance.

Within the video she can be heard rattling off phrases such as "my brothers and sisters, let’s help top make our friends transition into our world a comfortable one," or "remember: ’Demon’ can be an offensive term, refer to them as ’mortally challenged.'"

...At this time, the only people making comparisons are the SJWs. Apparently, without anyone having to point it out, the SJWs set about accusing the company of comparing murderous, and bloody demons to the migrants, unintentionally acknowledging that a lot of the violence people are seeing is due to the very group of people they think they’re righteously defending.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Where has all the flour gone? The fake humanitarian UNRWA crisis
The Center for Near East Policy Research (CFNEPR), contacted 44 nations who donate humanitarian aid to the Palestinian population in Gaza through UNRWA, the United Nations Relief and Works Agency operating in Gaza, to determine if any donor nation had cut back on its donations to the Palestinians in Gaza. 75% of the Gaza population dwells in UNRWA facilities.

With the exception of the US, which has cut back on 20% of its donations to UNRWA, every single diplomatic legation that donates to UNRWA responded emphatically that they are not cutting back one penny from aid to UNRWA.

After tabulating the responses from the diplomatic community, CFNEPR calculates that the 1.2 billion dollar UNRWA budget should be flowing like water from the donor to the five million people who benefit from UNRWA health, education and welfare programs - in Gaza, Jerusalem, Judea, Samaria, Lebanon, Jordan and Syria.

However, despite assurances of continued cash flow, UNRWA still proclaims to the media that it is bereft of resources to provide basic services. UNRWA Media Adviser Adnan Abu Hasna declared that UNRWA lacks basic food products and that the people of Gaza "have nothing to lose," adding that "we don’t know yet whether school will open in the coming year...We’re talking about 300,000 students who need to go to school."(1)

Why, looking at the facts, does UNRWA claim that it does not have funds for humanitarian needs?

Where has all the flour - that is, the funds for flour - gone?

Court jails Egyptian Muslim Brotherhood leader for life
CAIRO (Reuters) - The head of Egypt’s Muslim Brotherhood and other leaders of the banned group were sentenced to life in prison on Sunday, judicial sources said, on charges of incitement to murder and violence during protests five years ago.

The sentence is the latest among several trials and re-trials against Mohamed Badie and other senior leaders of the party that ruled Egypt before the military ousted Islamist President Mohamed Mursi following mass protests.

The sources told Reuters that Giza Criminal Court sentenced several top leaders including Badie, group spokesman Essam al-Erian, and senior member Mohamed El-Beltagy to life terms.

State news agency MENA said another defendant was jailed for 15 years and three others for 10 years.

Badie and the other defendants were convicted of incitement to violence on July 15, 2013, including the killing of five demonstrators and wounding of 100 during protests in an area in Giza known as al-Bahr al-Azim.

Why Does It Cost So Much to Educate a Child in America?
h/t Instapundit
We've heard a lot recently about the I Promise School that LeBron James is helping to start in Akron, Ohio, and, in theory, it seems like a good idea: Gather up 240 at-risk students into a school that, in addition to academics, provides "wraparound" services like free breakfast and lunch and an extended school day and school year to keep kids off the streets.

The Akron Beacon Journal reports some staggering dollar amounts being poured into the school that will enroll 240 kids.

The school, which is public and part of Akron Public Schools, is costing the district nearly $2.9 million from its general fund to cover the cost of most salaries, benefits, supplies and other base elements of the school.

By 2023, Pendleton estimates the school will cost the district a cumulative total of $8.1 million, but he considers it a "long-term investment" that will lead to smaller class sizes in other schools, better enrollment and improved report card ratings, among other benefits.

The contributions to the school from the foundation and its partners has amounted to more than $2 million for its physical transformation, additional staffing for smaller class sizes, technology, wraparound supports and other upgrades for the first year, according to the foundation.

Peg’s Foundation is committing $2.5 million to the school over the next five years, primarily for its wraparound support services, but also for whatever the LeBron James Family Foundation deems necessary in its first few years.

Contrary to some reporting, the LeBron James Family Foundation isn't footing the bill for all of the school's operating expenses. The foundation has donated $2 million thus far for start-up costs and has committed to another $2 million a year as the school builds to capacity. Because IPS will be part of the Akron City School District, a little over 14,000 in tax dollars will be allocated for each pupil enrolled in the school‐the same as for students in every other school in the district. Add to that the millions in charity dollars that will be poured into the school every year and the cost of each child's education begins to skyrocket.

The chart below shows how education dollars are spent in each state. Note that less than half of school expenditures go to pay teacher salaries‐and that gray "other" category comes out to around 28 percent of the total amount spent.

University of Birmingham 'Male & Pale' Professors assigned minders
[Victory Girls] The Social Justice Warrior cult on university campuses just got another boost. Say hello to the University of Birmingham where being a Senior Academic while male and pale means being "assigned a junior female colleague from an ethnic minority as a mentor". "Reverse Mentors"? What could go wrong?

The project’s overseer is Professor Jon Rowe. It’s not that he is directly charging his fellow penis of pallor academics of overt SIXHIRB, but he hopes these nubile, young vagina possessors will leave the seniors "feeling quite uncomfortable".
"What is understood about unconscious bias is that we have all got it, but the more you learn about it and become conscious of it, the more you can act ...

While it is well known and obvious that women and minority groups suffer setbacks to their career progression no one really understands why."

Rowe forgets that even people who have not gone to University can spot blatant question-begging. It is well known ranks up there with experts say or, the classic, studies show for fallacious assertions.

Are these white, male professors bigots? Have they been shown to engage in unlawful discrimination? Therefore, let’s be honest. These mentors are actually cultural minders. They are Big Sisters to monitor (and report) the professors’ fealty to The Cause.

Mao would proud.

From the establishment of the Red Army after 1917, these officers were almost invariably tasked to make sure the Communist Party of the respective country could count on the loyalty of the Army.

#11  a tenured professor cannot be fired unless he sleeps with students. And he can sue, if fired.

That is, indeed, the definition. But when the position no longer exists, there can be no instructor filling it, tenured or not. And if the pay and benefits are reduced enough, while the teaching requirements are substantially increased, even tenured professors will wander off to greener and less stressful pastures. This actually happened to my sister, who is now happily employed elsewhere; she is no longer carrying the entire department’s courses after the university retrenched following a serious spending spree, and all the other staff left.

Mayor Mashaba blames Jo'burg's inner city crime on ‘undocumented people'
[TSA] Following a spate of vicious muggings in Johannesburg’s inner-city, Mayor Herman Mashaba has singled out undocumented foreigners and a bureaucratic judicial system as the main causes for the prevailing scourge of ’petty’ crime.

In an interview with 702 Talk Radio, Mashaba sympathised with residents who had been affected by crime in Jo’burg’s central business district (CBD).

Johannesburg mugging caught on camera sparks outrage
The mayor had to face some tough questions regarding the lack of visible policing within the CBD ‐ an outcry which has intensified following amateur video footage captured the vicious mugging of a man in Small Street Mall.

The mall, which is right outside the South Gauteng High Court, was busy at the time. Onlookers did not intervene for fear of their own safety. No police officers were present in an area that is known for being a mugging hotspot.

Responding to questions posed by talk show host, Azania Mosaka, Mashaba bemoaned the fact that undocumented foreigners were able to slip through the cracks and avoid capture due to them not being on the record.

#4  Attacks in the past have required malware to somehow be delivered to the ATM or to have physical access to the ATM.

In the former scenario, attackers (same group that hit the DNC by the way) hit several Russian banks to cause the ATMs to spew out money at specific times and their mules would collected it then. They gained access as a couple of the regular networked PCs had full access to the ATMs and when they were infected, the ATMs were exposed to attack.

The other example involved a vendor swapping out infected hard drives on the ATMs so attackers could gain access that way. Some ATM locks are so bad you can pick them with a paper clip and people can get to the electronics (the money is still in a different locked safe inside) and hack the system then.

Vaping 'can damage vital immune system cells'
[BBC] Vaping can damage vital immune system cells and may be more harmful than previously thought, a study suggests.

Researchers found e-cigarette vapour disabled important immune cells in the lung and boosted inflammation. The researchers "caution against the widely held opinion that e-cigarettes are safe".

However, Public Health England advises they are much less harmful than smoking and people should not hesitate to use them as an aid to giving up cigarettes.

The small experimental study, led by Prof David Thickett, at the University of Birmingham, is published online in the journal Thorax.

Previous studies have focused on the chemical composition of e-cigarette liquid before it is vaped. In this study, the researchers devised a mechanical procedure to mimic vaping in the laboratory, using lung tissue samples provided by eight non-smokers.

They found vapour caused inflammation and impaired the activity of alveolar macrophages, cells that remove potentially damaging dust particles, bacteria and allergens.

It's Not Just Confederate Monuments‐All Statues of Problematic Men Must Go
[Glamour] A year ago the deadly Charlottesville, Virginia, rally broke open the conversation about Confederate monuments and their place in our nation’s public spaces. Today women are taking that conversation another step forward.

The death of Heather Heyer, the brutal beating of DeAndre Harris and the shatter of Marcus Martin's lower leg as he pushed then fiancée Marissa Blair from the path of James Alex Fields's Dodge Charger weren't enough to stop another white supremacist rally from taking place exactly a year after the violent Unite the Right rally in Charlottesville, Virginia.

On Sunday the world will watch as right-wing groups, white nationalists and neo-Nazis observe the anniversary of a deadly day in history‐this time in Washington, D.C.‐that marked a turning point in national dialogue about Confederate monuments and racism. The groups rallied on August 12, 2017, to protest Charlottesville City Council’s vote to take down a monument of Confederate General Robert E. Lee, which a 2016 petition demanded be removed from one of Charlottesville’s parks.

That petition was written by Zyahna Bryant, a Charlottesville High School senior with serious eyes and a quick wit who sliced through the rapid rhythm of her words. Bryant was just 16 when she penned the petition, inspired after watching human rights activist and artist Bree Newsome snatch the Confederate flag from atop a pole on the South Carolina Statehouse grounds in June 2015. "This flag comes down today!" Newsome shouted, clad in all black, dark brown dreads swinging beneath a helmet.

"It blew my mind," says Bryant.

Many who are taking to the streets for the Unite the Right Rally 2 would argue that there's no harm in keeping these symbols. But when is a statue more than a statue? At this moment in America's present reality, we question: Are monuments to men who rebelled against their mother country to preserve the institution of slavery appropriate in public spaces? How can a flag marked with stars and bars be a visceral symbol of shame to some, and pride to others? Women‐like Newsome and Bryant, of different ages and heritages and in every quadrant of the country‐are galvanizing efforts to remove, contextualize, and understand these symbols of who we were to help us determine who we are. But for all that we lost in Charlottesville, we gained something else too; a seismic shift in public consciousness.

Women are organizing to confront not just men of the Confederacy, but the problematic figures we've revered who used the tools of patriarchy and power to hurt women and people of color.

The message is clear. Women have had enough of bad men. And they aren't going to let them stand forever.

Omarosa says Mueller's office has reached out to her
[The Hill] Former White House aide Omarosa Manigault Newman says that she's "certainly" willing to share recordings from her time in the Trump administration with special counsel Robert Mueller, and that his office has already reached out to her.

Manigault Newman appeared Monday on MNSBC's "Hardball" as part of her ongoing press tour for her new White House memoir. Asked by host Chris Matthews if she has tapes from her time working in the Trump administration beyond the two she has shared publicly in recent days, Manigault Newman said, "I have plenty."

"Anything Mueller would like to see?" Matthews asked.

"If his office calls again ... anything they want I’ll share," Manigault Newman responded. "Anything that they want, I’ll certainly cooperate."

The ex-communications director for the White House's Office of Public Liaison did not elaborate on what her previous interactions with the special counsel may have involved.

Asked if she believes Trump will be impeached, Manigault Newman said "at this point, yes."

is believed to be "clinically dead" after an Iraqi Arclight airstrike targeted him during a meeting with a host of IS leaders in Syria last June, a security source was quoted as saying.

"Iraqi warplanes launched an airstrike inside the Syrian territories in June, targeting a meeting of Islamic State leaders, where the group’s chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was present," the source told AlSumaria News on Monday.

According to the source, the airstrike left al-Baghdadi mortally maimed and incapable of assuming his duties, prompting the group’s leaders to nominate Abu Othman al-Tunisi to succeed him.

The nomination of al-Tunisi, however, has caused severe disputes within the group.

"The strike also left a large number of Islamic State commanders dead and maimed," added the source.

Al-Baghdadi has been reported killed or maimed on a number of occasions.

No reports about al-Baghdadi have been heard since September 2017, when he urged supporters to wage attacks against the West and keep fighting in Syria and neighboring Iraq.

Al-Baghdadi emerged as leader of al-Qaeda in Iraq, one of the groups that later became Islamic State, in 2010. In October 2011, the US officially designated al-Baghdadi as a terrorist. It has offered a reward of up to $25m (£19.6m) for information leading to his capture or death.

[Dhaka Tribune] A mentally challenged fifth grader was allegedly raped by a school committee member in Narail on Monday.

The girl, who studies at KemongalHata Government Primary School in Lohagaraupazila went on August 5 to the committee member Kamrul's shop adjacent to the school to buy chocolates at noon. Kamrul took the girl to the store room after alluring her with food. Here he confined the girl and raped her repeatedly.

After returning home, the girl reportedly complained of pain in the stomach to her mother.

Her mother then informed the incident to the father of the child who was living in Dhaka for earning livelihood.

On August 10, the father of the girl returned home and filed a case with Lohagara cop shoppe.

The girl was admitted to the NarailSadar Hospital on the same day.

Enraged locals including hundreds of students from different institutions staged protests in front of KemongalHata Government Primary School from 10.30 pm to 1.30 am on Monday demanding the arrest of the accused.

The father of the girl said Kamrul is a very influential person in the area and he was trying to manipulate the case with money.

When contacted, Md Ataur Rahman, chairman of the school committee, said they had decided to suspend Kamrul.

Probir Kumar Biswas, officer-in-charge of the cop shoppe, said Kamrul had fled the house after the case was filed.

"We are trying to arrest him soon," he added.

Dr Moshiur Rahman Babu, medical officer of NarailSadar Hospital, said the victim had been admitted to the hospital after five days of the incident.

The facts would be determined after getting medical reports, he also said.

Toxic dust from 9/11 linked to almost 10,000 cancer cases
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A total of 9,795 people were diagnosed with cancer over the past 17 years due to breathing in fire smoke and toxic dust in the 9/11 attacks, of which 420 died, according to officials at the World Trade Center Health Program speaking to the New York Post on Saturday.

The 2001 attacks had resulted in the immediate death of 2,973, but the newspaper highlighted the deadly effects of the attack which lingered for several years after.

The people who fell ill with cancer after the attack were residents of Manhattan or those who worked in the area. Some of them were firefighters, coppers or rescuers.

Illnesses were a result of the toxic dust inhaled that included jet fuel, asbestos, cement and glass shards.

More than 1,700 people died as a result breathing the toxic dust, including 420 specifically from cancer, according to the study.

According to the newspaper, rescue and recovery workers have significantly higher rates of thyroid cancer and skin melanoma and face a higher risk of bladder cancer.

"Non-responders have had significantly higher rates of breast cancer and non-Hodgkin’s lymphoma," the Post added.

The WTC Health Program provides medical benefits to specific groups of individuals affected by the 9/11 attacks.

Iraq to respect dollar ban but not all US sanctions on Iran, PM says
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Iraqi Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi stepped back from his commitment to abide by new US sanctions on Iran on Monday, saying his government would only respect the dollar ban in transactions with Iran.

"I did not say we abide by the sanctions, I said we abide by not using dollars in transactions. We have no other choice," Abadi told a news conference in Baghdad.

Last week he said Iraq disagreed with the US sanctions on Iran but would abide by them to safeguard its own interests, triggering criticisms from Iran-allied Iraqi politicians and in Tehran.

The United States and Iran, increasingly at odds, are Iraq's two biggest allies and the sanctions put Abadi's outgoing government in a difficult position.

The sanctions target Iran's trade in gold and other precious metals, its purchases of US dollars and its car industry.

Asked if Baghdad would stop imports of commodities, appliances and equipment by government companies from Iran he said the matter was still being reviewed.

"We honestly have not made any decision regarding this issue until now."

Egyptian monk detained for alleged involvement in murder of bishop
[AlAhram] An Egyptian prosecution ordered on Sunday a four day detention of a monk pending investigations into his alleged involvement in last month's murder of Bishop Epiphanius, the head of the Monastery of Saint Macarius in Wadi El-Natroun.

Bishop Epiphanius was found dead inside the monastery on 29 July under what the church described as "suspicious circumstances."

An Alexandria prosecution ordered the detention of monk Faltaous El-Makary for "conspiring with others" to murder Bishop Epiphanius, according to state-owned MENA news agency.

Faltaous reportedly confessed to conspiring to kill the bishop with recently defrocked monk Isaiah El-Makary, who has also been detained on Saturday.

Following the murder of the bishop, Faltaous attempted to commit suicide, and is currently being treated in Cairo's Anglo American Hospital for injuries sustained in the suicide attempt.

Isaiah was defrocked last week after an investigation by the monastic affairs committee of the Holy Synod, the highest decision-making body in the Coptic Orthodox Church, revealed that he had committed actions unbecoming of a monk.

Isaiah was released from the monastery by Church decree and ordered to go by his former, non-monastic name of Wael Saad Tawadros.

The Church had previously stressed that the monk was not dismissed from his position due to the investigations into the murder of Bishop Epiphanius, and that he had been investigated and sanctioned previously by the Church for breaking monastic rules.

Following the death of Bishop Epiphanius, the Holy Synod issued new decrees prohibiting monks from using social media, appearing on media outlets, and building non-sanctioned places of worship.

The decrees also included a one-year freeze on the process of initiating new monks, and a three-year suspension of the ordination of monks as priests and archpriests.

Trump also said he would reinstate US nuclear-related sanctions on Iran and impose "the highest level" of economic bans on the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

Iranian designated ‘global terrorist’ by US for subversive activities in Bahrain
[ARABNEWS] The US Department of State designated Iran-based Qassim Abdullah Ali Ahmed as a global terrorist on Monday, according to a statement.

Also known as Qassim al-Muamen, Ahmed is a leader of the al-Ashtar Brigade (AAB), a group which the US has labelled a "Foreign Terrorist Organization."

As part of Executive Order 13224, Ahmed has been highlighted as posing a "significant risk of committing acts of terrorism."

The designation from the US Department of State seeks to deny Ahmed "resources to plan and carry out terrorist attacks."

Under the sanctions, Ahmed’s property and interests subject to US jurisdiction are blocked, and American citizens are prohibited from engaging in any transactions with him.

The AAB seeks to overthrow the Bahraini government, and Ahmed has previously recruited gunnies in Bahrain, trained AAB members how to use weaponry and explosives as well as funded AAB members to carry out attacks.

In November 2017, Bahraini authorities identified Ahmed as being involved in an AAB plot to assassinate prominent figures in Bahrain and target three oil pipelines.

Radioactive sheep bolster nuclear weapon test claim against Israel, researchers say
[FoxNews] Newly discovered data from radioactive sheep provides strong evidence
...not proof, though..
that a mysterious “double flash” detected almost 39 years ago near a remote island group was a nuclear explosion.

Ever since the flash was observed by a U.S. “Vela” satellite orbiting above Earth in September 1979, there’s been speculation that it was produced from a nuclear weapon test by Israel.
Speculation.
International researchers in the journal Science & Global Security analyzed previously unpublished results of radiation testing at a U.S. lab of thyroid organs from sheep in southeastern Australia in order to make their determination.

The flash was located in the area of Marion and Prince Edward islands, which are in the South Indian Ocean about halfway between Africa and Antarctica.

“A new publication sheds further light on the Vela Incident of 1979,” said Professor Nick Wilson, of Otago University at Wellington, who highlighted the findings but was not involved with the study itself. “[The research] adds to the evidence base that this was an illegal nuclear weapons test,
...adds to the evidence...
very likely
..but not definitely...
to have been conducted by Israel with assistance from the apartheid regime in South Africa.”

Wilson, an epidemiologist and member of the Australia-based Medical Association for the Prevention of War, said the test would have violated the Limited Test Ban Treaty signed in 1963
Israel has not ratified the thing, and is therefore not bound by it, according to Wikipedia. She does not stand alone in this — China, Egypt, Iran, Israel and the United States have signed but not ratified the Treaty; India, North Korea and Pakistan have not signed it — which means the entire treaty is not in force anywhere.
and urged the United Nations to mount a full inquiry.

The researchers conclude that iodine-131, which is an unstable radioactive form of the element iodine found in the thyroids of some Australian sheep, “would be consistent with them having grazed in the path of a potential radioactive fallout plume from a [September 22, 1979] low-yield nuclear test in the Southern Indian Ocean.”

Thyroid samples from sheep killed in Melbourne were regularly sent to the U.S. for testing—monthly in 1979 but also in the 1950s and 1980s, researchers say.

According to a report in the New Zealand Herald, the sheep had been grazing in an area hit by rain four days after the flash incident was observed, which would have been in the downwind path from the suspected explosion site.

Researcher also said the detection of a “hydroacoustic signal” from underwater listening devices at the time is another piece of evidence pointing to a nuclear test.

Israel, which has neither confirmed nor denied the existence of a nuclear program, dismissed the claim that it was responsible for the 1979 incident.

Israel’s Ambassador to New Zealand, Itzhak Gerberg, told the Herald, when asked if Israel was responsible for the explosion: “Simply a ridiculous assumption that does not hold water.”

However, the country's former Knesset Speaker, Avrum Burg, told a conference in 2013 that “Israel has nuclear and chemical weapons” and called for public discussion.

Commenting on the findings, U.S. nuclear weapons expert Leonard Weiss of Stanford University said in the online Bulletin of the Atomic Scientists that the “important” new evidence “removes virtually all doubt”
...virtually does not prove Israel dunnit, guys...
that the flash was a small-yield nuclear explosion.

Weiss added that there was “growing circumstantial evidence” that it was conducted by Israel.
Or possibly not Israel, circumstantial evidence being so very dreadfully circumstantial.
“Israel was the only country that had the technical ability and policy motivation to carry out such a clandestine test,” he said.
Prove it, Expert Weiss. All you people have done so far is claim a thing appears to have happened, and use a good deal of handwavium to support your contention that therefore it was Israel.

#5  At the time the magazine "Atlas World Press Review" made quite a few claims about it. Even in the day few read that magazine. It had regular articles from the likes of Kissinger and even Brezhnev. The Atlas article suspected that it was a 3 way test involving the 3 shunned countries (Taiwan, South Africa & Israel). The Atlas article claimed Taiwan did the test monitoring electronics, South Africa supplied the ships, planes and test infrastructure and Israel the hi-tech bomb. The authors believed the bomb was hi-tech because of it's particular traces and indicators suggested an enhanced radiation device like a neutron bomb. It was pointed out that this fit quite well with the needs of both Israel and South Africa both who might need to deal with large concentration of hostile internal populations close to citizens and not particularly well with Taiwan's strategic needs. The belief was that Taiwan was more of a technically interested observer as they really needed something more destructive in their tool kit.

All this is neither here nor there and good luck finding online or in a paper a copy of the Atlas article. They never had a large distribution and I threw my copy away a month or 2 after it came out.

six others involved in the case, including two women.

The attacker has been identified as 29-year-old Omar Mostafa, a member of a terrorist cell that has attempted to carry out a number of attacks, including the one on the Virgin Mary Church in Qalioubiya's Mostord on Saturday.

Mostafa, who was wearing an boom belt, tried to infiltrate worshippers gathered at the church for a service commemorating the annual Fast of the Assumption of the Virgin Mary, which began on 7 August and concludes on 22 August.

Due to the heavy security presence, Mostafa's explosives detonated before he could enter the church, killing the suspect in the process.

According to the ministry's statement, police found at Mostafa's apartment a number of weapons and ammunition, as well as cash and documents on manufacturing explosives.

The six other suspects were found with a number of explosives and ammunition in their apartments.

According to investigations, Mostafa met with two of the suspects near the church before the attack.

Egypt's police have been bolstering security at churches nationwide to ensure the safety of Christian worshippers, who have been the target of a number of terrorist attacks in recent years.

‘The snake’s head’ and the Khobar bombing
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The revolutionary Khomeinist movement succeeded in reviving many fundamentalist movements. After Khomeini's arrival in Tehran, Bin Laden described Khomeini as "great", wishing to achieve a similar dream in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
Starting in the 1980s, Bin Laden gained knowledge from the experiences of Iran's Revolutionary Guards, Hezbollah and Imad Mughniyah who later become an ally for assisting in bombings, including the Khobar operation in 1996.

The cooperation between Iran, its branches, affiliates and al-Qaeda is familiar to Americans. When Saudi Arabia insisted on conducting an investigation into the circumstances of the bombing, a long story unfolded, as recounted by Prince Bandar bin Sultan. He bitterly narrated the suspicious deal between the Clinton team and Iran to tamper with the investigation and kill it after leads showed Iran's explicit involvement in supporting the perpetrators of the bombings in question.

Thai ranger gunned down in Pattani ambush
[Bangkok Post] A volunteer ranger was gunned down in an ambush at a roadside pavilion opposite a military outpost in Pattani province on Saturday morning.

The attack occurred shortly after Phumsak Yenthua crossed Highway 42 in Panare district, opposite the ranger outpost where he worked, to the pavilion. As he was about to turn off the lights in the pavilion, assailants waiting in ambush in a nearby forest fired shots at him,

The sound of gunshots caused other rangers to rush to the scene, where they found Phumsak seriously injured. He was rushed to the hospital but died shortly later. Police found 25 spent M16 cartridges scattered at the scene of the attack and a bullet in the roadside forest, where the assailants had been hidden, about 50 meters from the pavilion.

Around the same time, a suspicious object was found in Thung Yang Daeng district of Pattani. Bomb disposal officers were called in to examine the object, which turned out to be a bomb. It was destroyed.

Aid group: Ships not willing to save Mediterranean migrants
The voters’ voice has been heard — elections have consequences.
[IsraelTimes] Moslem colonists Migrants in distress at sea tell their rescuers that several ships passed them by without offering assistance, a European aid group said Sunday while seeking safe harbor for a rescue vessel with 141 migrants colonists aboard.

SOS Mediterranee says that due to the recent refusal of Italia and Malta to let rescue vessels carrying migrants colonists dock, ships might be now unwilling to do rescues "due to the high risk of being stranded and denied a place of safety."

On Friday the group’s chartered ship Aquarius, which it operates in partnership with Doctors Without Borders, rescued 141 people in waters off Libya. Of these, 25 were found adrift on a small wooden boat that had no motor and was believed to have been at sea for about 35 hours, the group said. The other 116 people, including 67 unaccompanied minors, were rescued later that day, it said.

Nearly three-quarters of those rescued originate from Somalia and Eritrea
....economic migrants, then, not urgently seeking asylum at all...
...is run by the People's Front for Democracy and Justice (PFDJ), with about the amounts of democracy and justice you'd expect from a party with that name. National elections have been periodically scheduled and cancelled; none have ever been held in the country. The president, Isaias Afewerki, has been in office since independence in 1993 and will probably die there of old age...
. Many migrants colonists recounted how they were "held in inhumane conditions in Libya," where human traffickers are based, the aid group aid.

It added that Libya’s rescue coordination authorities wouldn’t provide the Aquarius with "a place of safety" and asked it to request safe harbor from another country’s authorities.

Afghanistan
Ghani orders deployment of further reinforcements amid standoff in Ghazni city
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani has ordered the deployment of further reinforcements in Ghazni amid ongoing sporadic clashes in Ghazni city.

“Tonight I chaired the Commander in Chief’s emergency meeting to take stock of the situation in Ghazni Province. In the meeting I spoke with the Provincial Governor, Commander of 203rd Thunder Corps, and Provincial Police and NDS Chiefs,” President Ghani said late on Sunday night.

He said the mentioned officials briefed me about the developing military and humanitarian situation in the city and the province.

According to President Ghani, after detailed review of the reports, the meeting decided that in order to consolidate operational gains, further reinforcements should be dispatched to the province on urgent basis.

This comesa as the Afghan Army Chief of Staff Gen. Sharif Yaftali told reporters on Sunday that the situation would change in Ghazni over the next two days and the Highway#1 will be reopened for the traffic and people.

He said the main reason behind the slowdown in clearance operations and elimination of the terrorists is to prevent the civilian casualties and harm to the public welfare compounds.

Gen. Yaftali further added that the militants did not have the capability to launch a major attack on Ghazni city but the recent attack was carried out with the support of the militants from Helmand, Zabul, Paktia, and Paktika provinces.
Update at 8:00 a.m. EDT from the Washington Times, with analysis from Bill Roggio of Long War Journal:
Taliban blindsides U.S. forces with surprise Afghan offensive

The Taliban is on the verge of dramatically expanding its control over southern and eastern Afghanistan in a surprise offensive that has caught Afghan and American forces off guard and thrown a vexing new wrench into the Trump administration’s strategy for ending the nearly 17-year-old war there.

The Afghan Defense Ministry said Monday a Taliban assault on the city of Ghanzi — a key provincial capital linking other areas under the Islamic militant group’s control just 75 miles southeast of Kabul — has killed roughly 100 Afghan security forces and some 20 civilians over the past three days.

While the Afghan forces, backed by U.S. and NATO advisors, claimed Monday night to have retained control of central Ghanzi, local reports indicated Taliban fighters still held pockets of the city and had simultaneously swept in and taken over most of the surrounding province’s rural areas.

Another group, called Catholic Democrats of Nebraska, brought a “public” letter, signed by more than 660 people, calling for Ricketts to “see the error of his ways” and halt the execution.

“We pray that you have a conversation of the heart,” the letter said.

One of the women who delivered the Catholic Democrats’ letter, Marylyn Felion, a death penalty opponent from Omaha, said Ricketts is violating an oath he took as a member of the Equestrian Order of the Holy Sepulchre to pledge “absolute fidelity to the pope.” “He has hidden behind Catholic teaching as long as it served his purpose ... now, no more,” Felion said.

Can good Catholics take the oath of office, by Feilon's standards? Israel said to confiscate tens of thousands of balloons en route to Gaza
[IsraelTimes] Three shipping containers impounded by IDF at port over fears they'd be used as airborne incendiary devices

In the past several weeks, Israel has prevented tens of thousands of balloons from being shipped to Gazoo, out of concern they would be used to launch incendiary devices into Israel, according to a television report on Sunday.

Three shipping containers destined for the coastal enclave and carrying tens of thousands of balloons were stopped at the Ashdod port and confiscated, Channel 10 reported.

Southern Israel has experienced hundreds of fires as a result of incendiary kites and balloons flown over the border from Gazoo in recent months. Over 7,000 acres of land have been burned, causing millions of shekels in damage, according to Israeli officials.

Despite an apparent truce with the Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", terrorist group since Thursday, incendiary kites and balloons from Gazoo have continued to plague Israeli border communities, with a large incendiary kite landing on power lines near Kibbutz Sufa on Friday, causing blackouts in surrounding homes.

On Sunday, the Ynet news site published a video, filmed by one of the residents of Sha’ar Hanegev Regional Council, of an incendiary device attached to an inflated condom which had been launched from Gazoo. The balloon carried flammable material attached to a time delay fuse. Only after it landed did the device burst into flames.

In this case, the fire was extinguished quickly and caused no damage.

A front man for the Israeli Fire and Rescue Services said that Sunday marked the first day in several months that no fires were caused by incendiary balloons flown from Gazoo toward Israeli communities bordering the coastal enclave. However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
he later said it appeared that at least one fire was started by the the arson devices.

Earlier on Sunday, the top-level security cabinet met to discuss the ongoing Gazoo Strip violence and the military options available, hours after Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu made it clear that Israel wants a full ceasefire and nothing less.

Gazoo’s Hamas rulers claim an Egyptian and UN-brokered ceasefire came into effect at the end of last week, though senior Israel officials maintain the country has not agreed to to it. Hamas, a terror group which seeks to destroy Israel, claims the deal was mediated by Egypt and other regional players.

Senior Israeli officials have said that "quiet will be met by quiet," implying that the country is not seeking an escalation of violence, but has not openly committed to an end to hostilities. Instead, military officials hope the terror group has internalized the damage Israel can cause to its infrastructure.

Firefighters extinguish blaze in south sparked by Gaza balloon

[IsraelTimes] Since Monday morning, firefighters have worked to extinguish a blaze caused by an incendiary balloon across that fell near the community of Re’im adjacent to the central Gazoo Strip, a front man for the Israel Fire and Rescue Services says.

Egyptian security forces kill 12 Islamist terrorists in Sinai
[IsraelTimes] Egypt’s official news agency said Sunday that security forces have killed at least 12 Islamist snuffies in a shootout in northern Sinai Peninsula.

The report by MENA says the fighting erupted when forces raided a suspected terrorist hideout in the city of el-Arish. It says troops also dismantled two bombs and seized weapons during the raid.

MENA didn’t say when the raid took place or whether any members of the security forces were killed or maimed. Egypt heavily restricts media access to the northern part of the Sinai Peninsula.

Alarm bells are sounding from Jordan and Egypt
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The ISIS attack on a security patrol in Fuheis in Jordan and the other ISIS attack on an Egyptian church in Shubra El Kheima in the Qalyubia Governorate bring focus again on the continuity of the battle or rather the big open war with these black groups.

Jordanian King Abdullah II said: "We will punish anyone who dares harm Jordan’s security and its citizens’ safety. We will fight the Khawarij and mercilessly strike them and with all power and decisiveness."

His statement came while heading a National Policy Council meeting at Al Husseiniya Palace to follow up on the terror attack which targeted a joint patrol of gendarmerie and general security in Fuheis and on the raid on the involved terror cell in the city of Salt and which led to the death of a number of security forces’ personnel.

The ISIS jacket wallah in Egypt, who is in his 20s, was blown up by his evil suicide belt before his devilish footsteps reached the church’s steps to attack innocent lives.

The war against ISIS has not ended, and it also did not end against al-Qaeda and the groups which branched from these devilish organizations; they are a permanent problem - not temporary. Even if they are temporary, it does not mean we should surrender to them and to their influence on the minds of some evil or deceived men, and it means that the ideological, media, political, legal and, of course, security war must go on. This war must continuously operate while extending its efforts without any laziness or delusional reliance of victory.

It’s true that the Islamic State

of Iraq and Syria, as it calls itself, or the practical and organizational entity was deterred in its Syrian and Iraqi positions but even if it calls itself a state, it’s in the end a mutation of Islamized groups and a fruit of the Qutbist-Brotherhood Al Zaqqum Tree.

The confrontation against these groups has been ongoing for around 70 years, ever since the secret Brotherhood group carried out liquidations and kabooms during the era of King Farouk and until today.

Yes, there are regional intelligence political uses of ISIS and al-Qaeda but the origin is the fatal sick ideology.

In short, protecting public health is non-stop continuous work to shield from old and new diseases, and the same applies to the diseases of the mind and the soul.

Jordan’s and Egypt’s alarm bells alert to this.

Jordan says jihadists killed in raid were Islamic State supporters
The facts unfold in this story from yesterday.
[IsraelTimes] Interior minister says Saturday raid 'foiled other plots to carry out a series of terrorist operations' against security forces, civilians

Saturday’s raid, during which three jihadists were killed and five nabbed
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
, revealed that they were preparing a series of attacks in Jordan, Interior Minister Samir Mubaideen said.

A joint unit of special forces, police and army troops raided a house in Salt, a town northwest of Amman, a day after an officer was killed and six were maimed in a kaboom in a nearby town during a music festival.

Four members of Jordan’s security forces were also killed in the operation.

The suspects "were not part of an organization but followed its takfiri

(Sunni Moslem Lion of Islam) ideology and supported ISIS," Mubaideen told a news conference, using an Arabic acronym for IS.

All of them were Jordanians, he said.

"The raid also foiled other plots to carry out a series of terrorist operations against security installations and public gatherings," he said.

Speaking alongside the minister, government spokeswoman Jumana Ghneimat said "a horrific amount of explosives" was found in the jihadists’ hideout.

"The explosives were primed to be used and linked to timers," she said.

The Death Eaters were holed up in an apartment in a four-story residential block in Salt. They blew up the apartment as security forces encircled them and exchanged heavy fire.

Medical sources said 10 people were maimed in the raid, including members of the security forces and residents of the building used as a hideout.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Khamenei: No negotiations with cheating, bullying US
[PRESSTV] Fearless Leader of the Islamic Revolution
...Iran's doddering head theocrat...
Ayatollah Seyyed Ali Khamenei
...the successor to Ayatollah Ruhollah Khomeini and the actual dictator of Iran...
says the Islamic Theocratic Republic will not enter into new negotiations with the United States due to cheating and bullying nature of its government.

Speaking in a meeting with a large group of Iranian people in Tehran on Monday, Ayatollah Khamenei dismissed talks with the US after President Trump called for direct negotiations with Tehran, saying Washington is only after concessions.

In a clear reference to US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's withdrawal from a landmark nuclear deal with Iran, called the Joint Comprehensive Plan of Action (JCPOA), the Leader said, "Why should we sit for negotiations with a bullying [and] cheating regime, which negotiates like this?"

Trump pulled the US out of the Iran nuclear agreement in May, and said that he plans to reinstate US nuclear sanctions on Iran and impose "the highest level" of economic bans on the Islamic Theocratic Republic.

Under the deal, Iran undertook to put limits on its nuclear program in exchange for the removal of nuclear-related sanctions imposed against Tehran.

Elaborating on Trump's offer of direct talks with Iranian officials, Ayatollah Khamenei said, "Of course, they act upon a threadbare and worthless political game in this regard; one of them says [they want negotiations with Iran] without any preconditions, the other one sets preconditions."

"Unlike what some people may think in the country, Americans’ request for negotiations is nothing new and has been repeated many times during the past 40 years, but has been met with Iran's negative answer. Even then American president, Reagan, who was more powerful than the current ones, in the famous case of McFarlane, sent him secretly to Tehran for negotiations, but he returned without any results 24 hours later."

"They have a special formula for negotiations, which must be understood and then this question must be answered that will any wise person enter into negotiations according to this formula?" Ayatollah Khamenei noted.

Egypt voices concern over Red Sea security after Houthi attack
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Egypt’s president said on Monday Cairo was deeply concerned about security in the Red Sea following an attack by Yemen’s Houthis on two oil tankers that forced Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
to suspend crude shipments temporarily through the strait of Bab al-Mandab.

Speaking at a joint presser with his Yemeni counterpart, President Abdel Fattah al-Sissi also said Cairo was committed to helping Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
regain its security after more than three years of war.

"We categorically reject that Yemen would become a foothold for the influence of non-Arab forces, or a platform for security and stability threats against the brotherly Arab countries or freedom of navigation in the Red Sea and Bab al-Mandab Strait," Sisi said, speaking alongside President Abdrabbuh Mansur Hadi.

Last month, Saudi Arabia temporarily halted oil shipments through Bab al-Mandab citing security concerns after Iran-aligned Yemen’s Houthis attacked two oil tankers in the Red Sea near the strait with missiles, damaging one vessel.

Although Saudi Arabia resumed oil shipments through the strait several days later, the incident has highlighted the volatility of the situation in the area, and the Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
danger looming over the country.

Yemen lies along the southern end of the Red Sea, one of the most important trade routes in the world for oil tankers. The tankers pass near Yemen’s shores while heading from the Middle East through the Suez Canal to Europe.

Speaking after talks with Hadi in Cairo, Sisi said Egypt supported the internationally-recognized Yemeni government and was committed to helping it restore stability to the country.

Scorned FBI Lover Lisa Page Torched Cheating FBI Partner Peter Strzok;
Link from a comment post yesterday by our own Vast Right Wing Conspiracy.
[True Pundit] In the end, Peter Strzok’s FBI lover Lisa Page "sold out" the FBI executive and divulged many improprieties he was involved in along with other FBI brass, according to FBI insiders.

Strzok was fired today from the FBI. FBI insiders said Page, his former lover, was "instrumental in getting him terminated."

"Lisa is on a warpath," one former colleague said. "She is not done either."

Fired FBI leaders Andrew McCabe, James Comey and other current FBI leaders like Bill Priestap could be on deck, according to officials familiar with Page’s congressional testimony in hearings and private sessions with her attorney.

Strzok, FBI sources said, is the target of several investigations. And more could be on the horizon, according to Congressional investigators who spoke to True Pundit’s Thomas Paine.

Lisa Page is angry, according to her associates inside FBI HQ in D.C.

"Remember you guys (True Pundit) had the story where McCabe was going to burn down the FBI?" one agent said. "You may want to rewrite it for Lisa Page. I think she could bring it all down on their heads."

That’s the word on the street. Page is angry and willing to testify against everyone linked to losing her FBI career. If her House testimony is any indication, that spells trouble for the Deep-State Sanhedrin. After Page testified, True Pundit reported China had hacked Hillary Clinton’s emails when she was Secretary of State.

That is something James Comey and Robert Mueller ‐ two former FBI chiefs spanning the time frame of the hacks ‐ never told Congress. Why?

What else does Page know?

Plenty. And everything about Andrew McCabe.

Some FBI insiders said Page has gotten a bad reputation because people only know her by her text exchanges with FBI Agent Peter Strzok, but Page is a capable, bright lawyer, according to FBI insiders.
and flexible in her marriage vows
And she knows almost all the FBI’s dirty little secrets. A very dangerous woman, indeed. Even Fox’s Catherine Herridge touched on Page’s inflammatory testimonies.

"Lawmakers are aware of new records after the recent closed-door depositions from FBI agent Peter Strzok and his former colleague and lover FBI lover Lisa Page." Catherine Herridge said. "Lawmakers are now seeking records related to the controversial Trump dossier. An internal FBI file documenting bureau efforts to verify the salacious allegations."

#1  This story not entirely accurate regarding Lisa's motive. After being fired she refused to testify to the congressional committee.

Then Strzok appeared before the committee on national television and appologized to Congress and his family for his relationship with Lisa. By Friday she in front of the committee singing to all the committee members like another Aritha Franklen.

The Grand Turk
Why the lira went into freefall
[ARABNEWS] The Ottoman Turkish lira has lost more than 45 percent against the dollar since the beginning of the year. Initially the reasons were manifold and interlinked: A sizeable current account deficit, the government’s undue influence over the central bank, its opposition to hiking interest rates, high inflation, geopolitical tensions and other factors.

Markets were skeptical when President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
last month appointed his son-in-law Berat Albayrak as finance minister, replacing the seasoned ex-banker Mehmet Simsek. There were some wobbles but things steadied, before all hell broke loose and the lira went into freefall.

This was exacerbated by mounting tensions between the US and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
. President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
doubled tariffs on steel and aluminum and imposed sanctions on some government members after Erdogan refused to release detained US evangelical priest Andrew Brunson. Things did not even calm down after a news conference by Albayrak, where he put forward a plan to combat the country’s economic woes. The lira continued its downward slide.

This all helped boost Turkey’s already high inflation rate. The country’s economy depends on importing energy and essential goods; the impact of the lira slide has also been felt in Turkey’s corporate sector, where companies have widely borrowed in foreign currency.

Over the weekend we saw signs of contagion. The Russian ruble, the Indonesian rupiah and the South African rand depreciated heavily. The euro lost against the yen, which makes sense because Spanish, French and Italian banks are exposed to Turkey. The Ottoman Turkish crisis will not be Greece 2.0 as far as the euro zone is concerned. However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
banks BBVA, UniCredit and BNP Paribas all have exposure to Turkey.

I don't think that's how I'd place my bet, especially after you just got finished telling us that French, Spanish and Italian banks (any others, like Germany?) have exposure, which just might translate to significant exposure.

Iran taking back enriched uranium it sent out to Russia under nuke deal
[IsraelTimes] Energy official says re-imposed US sanctions forcing Islamic Theocratic Republic to return to nuclear fuel sources for domestic power needs

Iran on Saturday announced it was taking back another portion of the 20 percent enriched uranium stockpile it handed over to Russia as part of the nuclear deal signed in 2015 with world powers in exchange for sanctions relief.

Spokesman and vice-president of Iran’s Atomic Energy Organization Behrouz Kamalvandi said the re-imposition of US sanctions following President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
’s exit in May from the accord necessitated returning the uranium for domestic needs.

"If the fuel is sold to us, we do not need to produce it by ourselves," Kamalvandi said, according to the semi-official Fars news agency.

"If the nuclear deal remains alive, the other sides should sell us the fuel and if the nuclear deal dies, then we would feel unimpeded to produce the 20% fuel ourselves," he added.

Kamalvandi said Iran stopped producing 20% enriched uranium and transferred its stockpile to Russia in ten batches as per the 2015 deal. He said Russia had already returned one batch of the fuel earlier this year at Tehran’s request, and a second would be returned soon.

The multi-national accord brokered by the B.O. regime stipulated that Iran ship out all but 300 kilograms (over 660 pounds) of its almost nine-ton stockpile of low-enriched uranium. Low-enriched uranium is suited to generate electricity but can be further enriched to arm nuclear warheads.

In May, the US announced it was abandoning the 2015 agreement and reimposing nuclear-related sanctions, threatening global companies with heavy penalties if they continue to operate in Iran.

In a bid to salvage the accord, the EU and European parties to the deal ‐ Britannia, La Belle France, and Germany ‐ presented a series of economic "guarantees" to Iran last month, but they were deemed "insufficient" by Tehran.

In recent weeks, Iran has prominently displayed its centrifuges and threatened to resume enriching uranium at higher rates. At one point, Iranian President Hassan Rouhani renewed a long-standing Iranian threat to close off the Strait of Hormuz, through which a third of all oil traded by sea passes.

US sanctions that had been eased by the B.O. regime under the deal took effect again Tuesday, targeting US dollar financial transactions, Iran’s automotive sector, and the purchase of commercial planes and metals, including gold. Even stronger sanctions targeting Iran’s oil sector and central bank are to be re-imposed in early November.

Trump has offered talks on a "more comprehensive deal" but Iran has balked at negotiating under the pressure of sanctions and has instead leaned on its increasingly close ties with fellow US sanctions targets The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and Russia.

Iranian Foreign Minister Mohammad Javad Zarif told the conservative Tasnim news agency on Saturday there are no plans to meet with US Secretary of State Mike Pompeo or other US officials on the sidelines of the UN General Assembly in New York next month, which both Rouhani and Trump are due to attend.

"On Trump’s recent proposal [of talks], our official stance was announced by the president and by us. Americans are not honest and their addiction to sanctions does not allow any negotiation to take place," Zarif told Tasnim.

It was Iran’s most explicit rejection of renewed nuclear talks to date, after much speculation that economic pressure would force its leaders back to the table with Washington or at least to engage in backroom discussions in New York.

Probe body declares police’s ‘crossfire’ claim wrong
[DAWN] FAISALABAD: A five-member police inquiry committee has declared as wrong the version of Millat Town police on the killing of two youngsters in Moslem Town here on Aug 8, that the victims were bumped off in "crossfire" at a picket.

Arslan and Usman, both matriculates, were reportedly shot at and injured by police for not stopping their bike at a picket. They died shortly after and the killings sparked nine-hour-long public protest. Police had claimed that the youngsters were killed in "crossfire" with police. A case of a police encounter was registered against the victims.

Following the protest, City Police Officer Ashfaq Ahmad Khan had constituted a committee to probe into the matter that comprised SSP (operations) Sultan Haider (convener), SSP (investigation) Syed Nadeem, Madina Town SP Asif Amin, SP Farhat Abbas (legal) and Nishatabad DSP Qaiser Musthaq.

The committee had recorded the statements of suspects, including Assistant Sub-Inspector Javed Akhtar, Head Constable Asghar Ali, Constable Falak Sher and terminated constable Faisal.

The suspects told the committee that the bikers, Usman and Arslan, were stopped at a picket near Bagh Wali Puli, but they tried to speed away and shot it out with the police.

According to police sources, the suspects neither corroborated their claim, nor produced any weapon allegedly recovered from the victims to prove that they fired at the police.

They said the inquiry committee also mentioned that no criminal record of the victims could be detected.

One of the suspects, police volunteer Waqas is on the lam, while the rest of them are in jug.

The CPO had given the committee 24 hours to conclude the probe. However,
you can observe a lot just by watching...
it failed to meet the deadline as the suspects joined the inquiry proceedings on Saturday after securing their pre-arrest bails.

The Supreme Court had also sought a report from the Punjab

inspector general of police regarding the killings, reportedly on a petition filed by a lawyer from Lahore.

A murder case has already been registered against the suspect coppers who were placed under suspension following the nine-hour-long protest against the killings.

First in the region, Tunisia backs equal inheritance bill for women
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Tunisia’s president backed a call for women to be granted equal inheritance rights, going against the norm in many Moslem nations that strongly favor male heirs, a topic that has been at the center of a wider debate about modernizing Islam.

The proposal, laid out by Beji Caid Essebsi in a televised address marking National Women’s Day, was first suggested by a committee which had deliberated the issue for about a year.

The recommendation angered Islamist groups, though, and in a nod to their influence that could undermine any eventual legislation, the president said those who wanted to abide by established Islamic inheritance doctrine should also be allowed to do so.

He stressed that changes must be made, and he referred the measure to politicians for discussion.

Previously last year on the same occasion, the Tunisian president announced the formation of a committee to study the issue of individuals' rights and to consider equality between men and women in all fields.

Despite the respect for women's rights in Tunisia compared to other Moslem countries, arbitration in inheritance is still based on the Sharia or Islamic law, where the man’s share equals to that of two women.

President Essibsi stressed that equality between men and women, which was approved by the Tunisian constitution, should cover all areas, including equality in inheritance.

"If we think about harmony, because the constitution dictates this, we must go in this direction," he said.

He added that inheritance is not a religious matter, but rather a matter for human beings. "God and His Messenger have left the matter for human beings to act," he said.

The Committee on Individual Freedoms and Equality, set up in August 2017, presented its recommendations on Feb. 20 to the president.

"Tunisia is once again pioneering and irreversibly moving towards advancement," the committee’s chairwoman Bochra Bel Haj Hmida told the Thomson Rooters Foundation in emailed comments.

"The issue of the right of children to add the title of their mother has been discussed ... All discriminatory laws in the family space and public space are included in the commission’s tasks."

Women in the north African country are eagerly anticipating the proposals, following gains in 2017 that lifted a ban on Moslem women marrying non-Moslem men and an end to a law that let rapists escape punishment by marrying their victims.

2016 Trump Tower Meeting Looks Increasingly Like a Setup by Russian and Clinton Operatives
[SARA CARTER] The June 2016 Trump Tower meeting between high-ranking members of the Republican presidential campaign staff and a Russian lawyer with Kremlin ties remains the cornerstone of claims that Donald Trump colluded with Russia to steal the election.

A growing body of evidence, however, indicates that the meeting may have been a setup ‐ part of a broad effort to tarnish the Trump campaign involving Hillary Clinton operatives employed by Kremlin-linked figures and Department of Justice officials. This view, that the real collusion may have taken place among those who arranged the meeting rather than the Trump officials who agreed to attend it, is supported by two disparate lines of evidence pulled together for the first time here: newly released records and a pattern of efforts to connect the Trump campaign to Russia.

The first line of evidence includes emails, texts, and memos recently turned over to Congress by the Department of Justice. They show how closely senior Justice Department officials and the Federal Bureau of Investigation worked with employees of Fusion GPS, a Washington-based research firm reportedly paid $1 million by Clinton operatives to dig up dirt on the Trump campaign.

Two BIFF rebels transporting bomb killed in Mindanao
[Xinhua] Philippines security forces gunned down two terrorists allegedly carrying an improvised explosive device in North Cotabato on August 8. Milatary spokesman Arvin Encinas said the two bomb couriers aboard a motorcycle attempted to transport the IED but were flagged down at a military checkpoint for inspection.

He said in a statement, "When the troops approached to check them, they attempted to flee and one suspect drew a firearm and shot the troops."

Encinas said this prompted the troops to return fire, killing the two people on the spot. He added that troops found a pistol and an IED inside a paper bag from these two people, who were believed to be members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters.

"The bomb couriers are trying to plot a bomb terror attack in the province of North Cotabato. It would have resulted in casualties had we not prevented (these people)," the military spokesman added.

More than 130 militants killed in joint Afghan-US airstrikes: Thunder Corps
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Afghan Military in the Southeast claims that more than 130 forces of Evil were killed during the joint Arclight airstrikes carried out by the Afghan and foreign forces in southeastern Ghazni province.

The 203rd Thunder Corps of the Afghan Military said the airstrikes were carried out in the vicinity of Ghazni province but did not elaborate further.

According to a statement released by the Thunder Corps, the Afghan and coalition forces carried out airstrikes on bad boys’ hideouts in Ghazni, leaving at least 139 dead.

The statement further added that two hideouts of the forces of Evil were also destroyed along with a vehicle during the same airstrikes.

This comes as sporadic festivities continue between the Afghan forces and the Talibs in the scenic provincial capital of Ghazni province since Friday.

In the meantime, President Ghani has ordered the deployment of further reinforcements in Ghazni amid ongoing sporadic festivities in Ghazni city.

"Tonight I chaired the Commander in Chief’s emergency meeting to take stock of the situation in Ghazni Province. In the meeting I spoke with the Provincial Governor, Commander of 203rd Thunder Corps, and Provincial Police and NDS Chiefs," President Ghani said late on Sunday night.

He said after detailed review of the reports, the meeting decided that in order to consolidate operational gains, further reinforcements should be dispatched to the province on urgent basis.

Man dies after intentionally flying plane into his own home – that had wife, son inside
[FOX] A pilot who was killed after crashing a plane into a Utah home he owned Monday morning was arrested on a domestic violence charge hours before he piloted the aircraft into the building where his wife and adult son were staying, police said.

Officials said it appeared the man, identified by relatives as Duane Youd, crashed the plane intentionally, according to FOX13 Salt Lake City.

Youd, 47, was booked into jail Sunday after a domestic violence incident and was later released on bail, the station reported.

Youd’s wife and adult son were in the home and escaped unharmed.

"There were two individuals in the home at the time that the plane went in," Payson police Sgt. Noemi Sandoval said. "They were able to get out of the home without any injuries. Obviously, they were very shook up over what had happened but they weren't physically injured."

Photos from the scene showed the plane wreckage in the front yard of the home. The house itself caught fire and was engulfed in flames before fire crews arrived to extinguish it.

[AlAhram] Egypt's interior ministry said in a statement on Monday that six Death Eaters have been killed in a shootout with police in 6 October City on the outskirts of the capital, a statement by the Egyptian interior ministry read.

Police forces had received information that a group of Death Eaters were using a residential house in 6 October as a hideout and were planning on carrying out "violent operations," the ministry said.

The raid was carried out based on intelligence obtained by the National Security Agency.

The suspects opened fire on police forces when the raid began.

"Information had revealed that the Death Eaters planned to implement a series of hostile operations targeting vital state institutions, Christian churches, and military and police personnel during the upcoming Eid al-Adha holiday," the ministry statement said.

Three automatic rifles, a sniper rifle, a birdshot rifle, ammunition, and improvised bombs were found at the site.

The State Security Investigations Service is investigating the incident, the statement added.

Egypt's police forces have recently been carrying out a number of raids on Death Eaters involved in executing or attempting to carry out hostile acts throughout the country.
