London terrorism suspect a former ‘humanitarian activist'
יh/t Instapundit
Yesterday, police in London arrested a man who was carrying two knives near the Parliament building on suspicion of planning an attack. Today police revealed he is 27-year-old Khalid Mohamed Omar Ali. According to the Guardian, just a few years ago Ali was a "humanitarian activist" who participated in an aid convoy to Gaza:

News from SWC, Camp Mackall and Fort Bragg
CAMP MACKALL -- As a soldier, Col. Robert L. Howard helped define Special Forces to generations while becoming one of the most decorated troops of his day.

And as a legend, he’ll have a lasting impact on the training of all future special operations forces at Fort Bragg.

A central classroom building at the Rowe Training Facility on Camp Mackall was dedicated in honor of the late Medal of Honor recipient on Thursday.

The event, organized by the U.S. Army John F. Kennedy Special Warfare Center and School, was attended by Howard’s family and more than 100 current and former Special Forces soldiers.

Many had stories about Howard, who was wounded 14 times during nearly five years of combat in Vietnam, earned a battlefield commission and was thrice recommended for the nation’s highest award for valor, the Medal of Honor, in the space of a little more than one year.

He was awarded the medal once and also received two Distinguished Service Crosses, a Silver Star, Bronze Star Medal for Valor with three oak leaf clusters and eight Purple Hearts, among many other awards and decorations.

No more Headspace & Timing gauge for the M2
[Kit Up] Marine Corps Systems Command is equipping Marines with the updated M2A1 .50-caliber machine gun, increasing Marines’ survivability and lethality on the battlefield.

The M2A1 is an upgrade to the legacy M2 machine gun currently used by Marines across the Corps. The updated M2A1 is easier and safer to use due to three major changes: a quick-change barrel, fixed headspace and timing, and a flash hider that reduces the weapon’s signature by 95 percent at night, according to a recent Marine Corps Systems Command press release.

"M2s are the most reliable heavy machine gun," said Maj. Harry Thompson, team lead for General Purpose Weapons at MCSC. "The improved M2A1 makes Marines more lethal because they’re able to get rounds down range quicker. Marines will have better mobility because of the fixed headspace and timing--it’s much quicker to move the gun from position to position and put it back into action. Because they’re less exposed, Marines will have better survivability too."

The current M2 requires Marines to manually set headspace and timing before firing, after assembly, and after required barrel changes when the barrel becomes extremely hot from high volumes of fire. Headspace is the distance between the face of the bolt and the base of the cartridge case when it is fully seated in the chamber. Timing is the adjustment of the gun so that firing takes place when the recoiling parts are in the correct position for firing.

Lawmakers' questionable stock trades prompt new bill
[BlabberBuzz] Tom Price, secretary of Health and Human Services, speaks during a news conference last year while he was still in Congress. (Andrew Harrer/Bloomberg)

Rep. Louise Slaughter (D-N.Y.) introduced a bill Friday to close "ethics loopholes" in a five-year-old law that has failed to stop members of Congress from taking advantage of exclusive stock deals that are not available to the general public.

Slaughter, a co-author of the 2012 STOCK Act, said she decided that amendments to the law are needed because of controversial, discounted stock purchases that were made by Rep. Chris Collins (R-N.Y.) and former House member and now Secretary of Health and Human Services Tom Price in 2015 and 2016.

In one of Collins’s stock trades in 2013, he took part in an initial public offering (IPO) in a foreign market and did not disclose it on financial disclosure forms. A possible loophole is that ethics officials and members are interpreting that requirement to only apply to the U.S. market.

The trades led to accusations of "insider trading" on the part of Collins and Price.

"We are blessed people and we are here to do good for the country; we are not here to do good for ourselves," Slaughter said in an interview.

Krauthammer Makes The Case For A ‘Preemptive Strike' Against North Korea [VIDEO]
[Daily Caller] Charles Krauthammer said during a panel discussion on Fox News Monday that the proper course of action for dealing with North Korea could involve a "preemptive strike" launched by the United States.

"I think that if we come to the final point, where they have a nuke on top of an ICBM, I think, yes a preemptive strike."

"That’s a policy that means, if the Chinese have to calculate, it could be a bluff," Krauthammer conceded. "But the Chinese and the North Koreans are going to have to calculate that that is a plausible threat."

Krauthammer further argued that the threat of a preemptive strike could convince China into "imposing a freeze on the program."

"It could be that they won’t be able to get them to dismantle it, but a freeze might be acceptable as a minimum."

Tillerson eyes cutting 2,300 jobs at State Department
[WAPO] WASHINGTON -- Secretary of State Rex Tillerson is proposing to eliminate 2,300 jobs as part of a plan to cut more than a quarter of the State Department’s budget for the next fiscal year, officials said Friday. The plan will almost certainly meet resistance from lawmakers opposing President Donald Trump’s proposal to shrink the size of the federal government.

Tillerson’s proposal reduces the number of new diplomats being hired and includes the State Department and U.S. Agency for International Development’s possible consolidation, according to officials briefed on the proposal. The staff cuts would amount to about 3 percent of the department’s roughly 75,000-strong workforce.

The proposal is a response to the Office of Management and Budget’s call to slash the State Department and USAID budgets by 31 percent through deep cuts to foreign aid and other programs, said the officials, who weren’t authorized to speak publicly about the as-yet unreleased plan and requested anonymity.

Tillerson’s plan would entail a 26 percent budget reduction, they said.

In an interview with NPR that aired Friday, Tillerson said he intended to reorganize the department to make it more efficient and focused.

"What we really want to do is examine the process by which the men and women -- the career foreign service people, the civil servants, our embassies -- how they deliver on that mission," he said.

"We want to hear from them, we’re just about to embark on a department-wide listening mission," he said, adding later: "I look forward to hearing their ideas. Because I know there’s going to be opportunities to allow them to be more effective. Now, out of that we’ll determine what the State Department looks like."

Cutting more than a quarter of State Department’s current $50.1 billion budget would require dramatic reductions in programs and staffing, cuts that many in Congress and elsewhere oppose.

Milwaukee Sheriff David Clarke may soon have new job.
[Wash Times] Milwaukee County Sheriff David Clarke may soon have himself a new job in President Donald Trump’s administration.

Multiple sources with knowledge of the White House’s plans for filling a Department of Homeland Security spot at the Office of Partnership and Engagement told Politico on Friday that Mr. Clarke is a viable contender.

"[It’s] not a done deal yet," a senior administration official told the website of its vetting process.
Mr. Clarke gained national fame in recent years with appearances on Fox News Channel discussing the rule of law, the Black Lives Matter movement and former President Barack Obama’s rhetoric on racial issues. He also spoke at the 2016 Republican National Convention.

"We simply cannot be great if we do not feel safe in our homes, on our streets, and in our schools," the lawman said July 18, 2016. "I see this every day, at street level, where many Americans increasingly have an uneasiness about the ability of their families to live safely in these troubling times. This transcends race, religion, ethnicity, gender, age, and lifestyle. ..."

"Donald Trump understands that what can make our nation safe again is a re-commitment to a system of justice in which no government official, not even those who have fought their way to the marble and granite halls of Washington; no private citizen, no elected official, even Hillary Clinton; and no group of people, despite the fervor with which they press forward their grievances, can claim privilege above the law," the sheriff continued. "It cannot happen in the United States."

ICE Makes Arrests Of 76 More Criminal Aliens In Florida, Puerto Rico
[Homeland Security Today] Following hundreds of arrests of criminal aliens in recent months by Immigration and Customs Enforcement (ICE), ICE officers last week arrested 76 additional criminal aliens in an enforcement action targeting individuals who pose a threat to public safety. ICE Enforcement and Removal Operations (ERO) officers made the arrests across Florida.

In fiscal year 2016, ICE conducted 240,255 removals nationwide. Ninety-two percent of individuals removed from the interior of the United States had previously been convicted of a crime.

Of those arrested last week by ICE, which was a removal operation conducted April 18-21, 57 had criminal records that included felony convictions for serious or violent offenses, such as lewd and lascivious behavior, sexual battery, child sex crimes, sex offenses, aggravated assault with deadly weapon, weapons charges and drug violations. In addition, ICE said 19 had less serious or violent violations which included larceny, petty theft, trespass, driving under the influence, fraud and driving with no driver’s license.

Sarah Palin: Trump ‘Makes America Great Again' by Lifting Obama's ‘Anti-American' Offshore Drilling Ban
[Breitbart] Former Alaska governor and Republican vice presidential candidate Sarah Palin told Breitbart News that she welcomes President Trump’s executive order aimed at lifting the ban on offshore drilling for oil and gas in the Arctic and Atlantic areas.

Governor Palin said, "Quashing Obama’s anti-American energy plan makes America great again. We’ve been working for years to remind people that our exceptional nation came to be by developing our God-given natural resources and by expecting reward for an unsurpassed work ethic. We capture that again when we drill, baby, drill!"

Trump’s executive order directs the U.S. Department of the Interior to review the Obama-era bans to allow "responsible development of offshore areas that will bring revenue to our treasury and jobs to our workers.

Like nearly everyone else, President Trump 'disappointed' in congressional GOP
[The Hill] President Trump says he is "disappointed" in the Republican-controlled Congress for how it has handled his major legislative priorities, including a plan to repeal and replace ObamaCare.

"I’m disappointed," Trump told Fox News in response to a question about whether he was disappointed with how Republicans had handled big issues such as healthcare.

After host Martha MacCallum noted the possibility of a Friday vote on ObamaCare repeal had been raised before GOP leaders decided against it, Trump said: "I'm disappointed that it didn't go a lot quicker."

"I like them a lot," he said of congressional Republicans.

"I have great relationships," he added, reminding MacCallum that he didn't know most of them before this year.

Woman caught smuggling gold, khat and cash on Denmark-Norway ferry

[TheLocal.dk] A 43-year-old woman was caught carrying khat by customs after taking the Hirtshals-Larvik ferry on Friday. Customs officers discovered 82 bunches of the chewable leaf, which is illegal in Norway, weighing a total of just under eight kilograms. The woman was also carrying 128,000 kroner ($15,000) and 81 grams of gold, reports NRK. The money is suspected to be the result of criminal activity, and the gold suspected to have been smuggled into Norway, customs reported Monday.

Islam researcher: Not all Salafists are the same

[DW] Q: Not all Salafists are potentially violent. How to you make distinctions within the group?
The Federal Office for the Protection of the Constitution (Editor's note: Germany's domestic intelligence agency) believes there to be around 10,000 people in the Salafist scene.
Good to know.
In other words, a very low number compared to the 3-4 million Muslims in Germany.

I roughly break down the group down into Salafists who are purists, those who are political and those who are jihadists. Around two-thirds are apolitical purists and political Salafists. And then there is around a third who are potentially violent, or who support violence.
Also good to know. There are also the non-Salafists who are prone to violence or supporting the violent -- an unknown number at this point.
Of course Salafism is a restrictive interpretation of Islam, but I find it regrettable that the whole group gets lumped together. I have spoken with many members and preachers who publicly distance themselves from an emphasis on violence. They are under pressure from jihadists. Unfortunately the media presentation of the protest movement against jihadism within the Salafist scene is not as good as it could be.

German soldier, posing as refugee, arrested in attack plot

[IsraelTimes] A German soldier who pretended to be a Syrian refugee has been arrested on suspicion he planned a gun attack with racist motives, prosecutors said Thursday. The 28-year-old suspect who was not identified was thought to have a “xenophobic background,” they said — while Die Welt daily reported he may have plotted to pin the blame for an attack on foreigners.

The strange case involved a joint police operation across Germany, France and Austria with raids on 16 locations, prosecutors in Frankfurt said in a statement.

They arrested the soldier — a lieutenant usually stationed on a Franco-German military base near Strasbourg — in the southern German city of Hammelburg on Wednesday.

On the same day they also arrested a second German man, a 24-year-old student and alleged co-conspirator in possession of objects that breach weapons and explosives laws, they said.

There is the George W. distinction again of "good Muslims and bad Muslims." Even a relatively small number of these jihadist Salafists do a great deal of damage to the fabric of a country. Why don't the good Salafists purge the bad Salafists from their ranks? There are a lot of supporters of the jihadists who don't engage in jihad but support those who do. And also there are the twin concepts of taqiya and kitman.

Former Sen. DeMint to be ousted from Heritage Foundation
[Politico] The controversial president of The Heritage Foundation, former Sen. Jim DeMint, will soon be out of a job, following a dispute with board members about the direction of conservative think tank, according to three people with knowledge of the situation.

Some Heritage board members believe that DeMint has brought in too many Senate allies and made the think tank too bombastic and political -- to the detriment of its research and scholarly aims.

Skipping down to what may have gone awry:

Heritage Action, despite its reputation as the uncompromising ideological enforcer, had in recent months been working to soften its sharp edges -- and even to reach out to Democrats.

Reaching out to Democrats? Oh, that will work. I heard Geraldo Riviera this a.m saying the Pubs ought to appoint Merrick Garland to the next SCOTUS opening to show the Dems what good faith the Pubs have. What part of "cultural war" do they not get? The Dems get that. Two Police Wounded by 'Islamist' on France's Reunion Island
[AnNahar] A man suspected of being a radicalized Islamist shot and maimed two coppers on the French Indian Ocean island of Reunion as they tried to arrest him on Thursday, authorities said.

"The man refused to be locked away
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
and fired a rifle at police," a local government official on the island said, adding that the suspect -- a man in his 20s believed to be a recent convert to Islam -- was now in jug.

The lives of the two officers are not in danger.

The anti-terrorist department of the Gay Paree prosecutor's office is investigating the attack.

The attack on Reunion comes a week after a French policeman was shot and killed and two others maimed on Gay Paree' Champs Elysses avenue. That attack was claimed by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group.

A jihadist network, the first in a French overseas territory, was smashed in Reunion in June 2015. Its leader, a 21-year-old known as "The Egyptian", was arrested and transferred to Gay Paree.

Authorities in Reunion estimate there are around 100 radicalised Islamists on the island.

The local government official said Thursday's assailant was also "suspected of being radicalised".

La Belle France's police union Unite SGP POLICE‐FO said it was "deeply shocked and angry after this new attack."

It "shows that coppers are in danger throughout the national territory and not only in certain areas as judges would have us believe," it added.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
When Bill O'Reilly Misled His Viewers
[American Thinker] On Aprll 13, 2011, a viewer sent the following to Bill O’Reilly. He addressed it during the email segment of his show:

John Knox: Arlington, VA: What about Obama having a Connecticut social security number. He never lived there.

Bill O’Reilly: But his father lived in Connecticut for several years, John. Babies sometimes get numbers based on addresses provided by their parents.

Why did O’Reilly mislead, and what is the lie?

Two years before O’Reilly’s declaration, I uncovered the phony number. At the request of a client, who turned to me as a licensed private investigator, I found that Barack Obama was using the Connecticut social security number 042-68-4425, which was issued on March 28, 1977 to someone born in the year 1890.

If it seems implausible that someone would acquire their SSN at the age of 87, I can explain why it is not. As I researched Obama’s number, I found the file of a woman who was issued her number on the same day in March. A letter revealed she had been using her husband’s SSN and needed one of her own, more than likely for government assistance.

My theory is that the person actually assigned the number that Obama uses was in a similar circumstance. On March 28, 1977 Barack Obama was fifteen years old and living in Hawaii.

Although the Obama administration changed issuance of SSNs to randomly assigned in 2011,
Why?
until then they were assigned by where a person lived when they filled out their application.
And on and on it goes.

Three people charged with supplying arms to terrorists in 2015 Paris attacks
[IsraelTimes] Authorities link sale of weapons to jihadist who killed 4 Jewish men in kosher supermarket, brothers who murdered 12 at Charlie Hebdo during 3-day rampage.

satirical weekly, a judicial source said.

Those charged this week include Samir L., believed to be linked to the sale of weapons to the supermarket attacker, as well as Miguel M. and Abdelaziz A., who are thought to have been involved in trafficking arms between Belgium and La Belle France.

Seven people have already been charged over the assaults. The attackers had a wide array of weapons including guns that came from Slovakia.

Investigators are trying to piece together how La Belle France-based jihadist Amedy Coulibaly obtained the weapons used in the January 9, 2015 attack on the supermarket.

Coulibaly killed four Jewish men after taking shoppers hostage at the kosher store. Elite police later shot him dead as they stormed the building. He had killed a policewoman in the Montrouge suburb south of Gay Paree the night before, when authorities think he may have initially been targeting a nearby Jewish school.

Coulibaly said he carried out the attack in the name of the Islamic State

Military professors call Trump Army secretary pick 'serious threat'
h/t Instapundit
A group of nine professors from service academies and war colleges are calling President Trump's choice to be Army secretary a "serious threat" to military values, according to a letter provided to the Washington Examiner Friday.

The current faculty members, who were joined by 12 of more former professors, wrote a letter of opposition to Tennessee state Sen. Mark Green, saying he has attacked the gay and transgender community as well as "Latinos, women, Muslims, and members of the armed forces."

..."Mark Green would undermine good order and discipline by fostering dissension within the ranks and sowing confusion about what the military stands for," the faculty members wrote.

Green has denied claims he is against minority groups and said liberals are targeting him for his religious faith.

Trump picked Green, 52, a conservative Christian lawmaker and former Army special operations flight surgeon, to be the Army's top civilian earlier this month. He was on the task force that captured deposed Iraqi dictator Saddam Hussein and wrote a book about his experience.

But videotaped public comments Green made in recent years have sparked opposition from House Democrats, liberal advocacy groups and transgender reality TV star Caitlyn Jenner.

Egypt's Ministry of Health and Population has banned all forms of female genital mutilation since 2007.[37] The ministry's order declared it is 'prohibited for any doctors, nurses, or any other person to carry out any cut of, flattening or modification of any natural part of the female reproductive system'. Islamic authorities in the nation also stressed that Islam opposes female genital mutilation. The Grand Mufti of Egypt, Ali Gomaa, said that it is "Prohibited, prohibited, prohibited."[74] Egypt passed a law banning FGM.[75] The June 2007 Ministry ban eliminated a loophole that allowed girls to undergo the procedure for health reasons.[76] There had previously been provisions under the Penal Code involving "wounding" and "intentional infliction of harm leading to death", as well as a ministerial decree prohibiting FGM. In December 1997, the Court of Cassation (Egypt's highest appeals court) upheld a government banning of the practice providing that those who did not comply would be subjected to criminal and administrative punishments. According to a survey in the year 2000, a study found that 97% of the country's population still practiced FGM; a 2005 study found that over 95% of Egyptian women have undergone some form of FGM.[77] In Egypt's first trial for committing female genital mutilation, two men were acquitted in November 2014; the doctor was ordered to pay the girl's mother compensation.[78] However, in 2015 after an appeal the doctor was sentenced to more than two years in prison and the father was given a three-month suspended sentence.[79]

Why they lynched Mashal
[DAWN] THE mental state of men ready and poised to kill has long fascinated scientists. The Nobel Prize winning ethologist, Konrad Lorenz, says such persons experience the ’Holy Shiver’ (called heiliger Schauer in German) just moments before performing the deed. In his famous book On Aggression, Lorenz describes it as a tingling of the spine prior to performing a heroic act in defence of their communities.

This feeling, he says, is akin to the pre-human reflex that raises hair on an animal’s back as it zeroes in for the kill. He writes: "A shiver runs down the back and along the outside of both arms. All obstacles become unimportant ... instinctive inhibitions against hurting or killing disappear ... Men enjoy the feeling of absolute righteousness even as they commit atrocities."

While they stripped naked and beat their colleague Mashal Khan with sticks and bricks, the 20-25 students of the Mardan university enjoyed precisely this feeling of righteousness. They said Khan had posted content disrespectful of Islam on his Facebook page and so they took it upon themselves to punish him. Finally, one student took out his pistol and shot him dead. Hundreds of others watched approvingly and, with their smartphone cameras, video-recorded the killing for distribution on their Facebook pages. A meeting of this self-congratulatory group resolved to hide the identity of the shooter.

In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
province, survived an liquidation attempt by unknown attackers, Salem told Anadolu Agency on Friday.

"Gunmen opened fire on my convoy near the Duvas region between the provinces of Abyan and Aden," he said.

The attack, the governor added, occurred late Thursday while he was on his way to the southern city of Aden, which currently serves as Yemen’s provisional capital.

"One of my guards was slightly injured in the attack and was taken to a nearby hospital in Aden," Salem said.

He went on to assert that such "cowardly acts" would "not deter us [i.e., the Yemeni government] from fulfilling our responsibility to impose security and stability in Abyan -- whatever the cost".

Salem refrained from accusing any parties or groups of being behind the liquidation attempt, but said certain "outlawed groups" were unhappy with his recent efforts to impose security in the area.

Masked protesters injure MPs in Macedonian parliament
[AA.TR] A Macedonian politician is at death's door and several MPs and journalists have suffered injuries after masked protesters attacked and sequestered them inside the parliament on Thursday, local news outlets reported.

The protesters demonstrating in front of the parliament in the capital Skopje stormed the building after ethnic Albanian Talat Xhaferi was elected as speaker of parliament.

Live television footage showed anti-Albanian protesters injuring the leader of the Social Democrats Zoran Zaev. The majority coalition led by his party supported Xhaferi.

The parliament building has been evacuated, and a total of 42 people, including politicians and journalists, sought help at local medical centers for various injuries, according to reports.

MP Ziadin Sela was hospitalized in a critical condition, media reports said.

An Anadolu Agency cameraman, whose identity has been withheld for their safety, said they were held inside the parliament for several hours before being released, and some journalists were beaten and bloodied by protesters who asked them which media outlet they worked for.

The demonstrations have been organized by the Internal Macedonian Revolutionary Organization ‐ Democratic Party for Macedonian National Unity (VMRO-DPMNE).

On Thursday night, Macedonian President Gjorge Ivanov called an emergency meeting to resolve the crisis.

"There is no issue that cannot be resolved through dialogue in accordance with the Constitution and laws of the Republic of Macedonia," Ivanov said. "I therefore urge the leaders of the parliamentary parties that tomorrow they come into my office for a meeting of leaders to discuss the situation."

The United Nations

...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
Secretary General Jens Stoltenberg said he was "shocked" by the attack.

"All parties must respect the democratic process. They must support dialogue, not violence," Stoltenberg wrote on Twitter.

In a joint statement, EU foreign policy chief Federica Mogherini and enlargement commissioner Johannes Hahn condemned the attack "in the strongest terms".

"Democracy must run its course. We take positive note of the election of Talat Xhaferi as Speaker of the Parliament, as reported," the statement added.

Macedonia has been an EU candidate country for over a decade, but the parties have yet to launch accession negotiations.

Kurdish militias claim killing 17 Turkish soldiers as troops mobilized near Syria borders
[Iraq News] Media outlets allied with Syrian Kurdish militias have quoted sources on Friday saying the troops killed 17 Turkish soldiers, as other reports say Ankara was lobbying troops on the borders amid escalating encounters.

Sources within the U.S.-backed People’s Protection Units (YPG) said that a Turkish armored vehicle was also destroyed in the encounters near the northern Syrian town of Afrin.

Also on Friday, Sky News Arabia said Turkish military troops were seen lobbying near the borders with Syria’s Tal Abyad region at the countryside of Raqqa, the Islamic State’s base in Syria. Turkish troops and YPG briefly exchanged fire, while Turkish warplanes flew over the scene of clashes.

The network quoted Syrian sources saying YPG ordered its troops to evacuate from towns near the Turkish borders in anticipation for a possible Turkish incursion.

Ankara said Tuesday its fighter jets killed at least 70 Kurdish fighters in the northern areas of Iraq and Syria as part of an operation targeting locations held by the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), its arch enemy.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a U.K.-based Syrian war monitor, said Turkish strikes killed 18 YPG fighters on Tuesday.

The U.S. relies on the YPG in its ground operations in Syria, but Turkey views the YPG as an extension of the PKK, and has pressed Washington to exclude the militia from military efforts against the Islamic State in Syria.

[ALMASDARNEWS] ISIS is unlikely to keep control of Tabqa city for long as the US-backed ’Syrian Democratic Forces’ (SDF) resumed their western Raqqa offensive today, spearheaded by hundreds of seasoned Kurdish assault units.

With the SDF sweeping through the city center, their forces were able to imposed full control over the Nebabile and Zahra neighborhoods.

Three days ago, Kurdish forces also captured the al-Wahab district after establishing a foothold in the Alexandria suburb on April 15.

US army visits Syrian border to prevent further Turkish attacks against Kurds
[ARA] A delegation of the U.S.-led coalition on Friday visited the Kurdish town of Derbassiye in Syria’s northeastern Hasakah province, to inspect the areas bombed by the Turkish army and took with them fragments of the explosives that were fired by the Turkish army on Kurdish positions.

"A delegation of international coalition leaders visited the region of Derbassiye. They were briefed on the areas bombed by the Turkish army," Abdulkarim Omer, the Co-Head of Foreign Affairs of the local administration in the Cezire Canton said on Friday.

"Yesterday the Turkish army bombed Haddon village near Amude. There is a YPG centre on the mountain near the village. Also the Kharza village near Amude was bombed yesterday," reported Heybar Othman, a freelance journalist working for international media.

"On Friday, US troops visited the border areas after Turkish attacks on the YPG. This is a message from the United States to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
to stop attacking the YPG, since they fear this could threaten the anti-ISIS Raqqa operation," he added.

Othman further said that three US army units will be deployed on the border area to prevent further attacks. "The first unit will be spread out between Dirbesiyê [Derbassiye] and Serikaniye, the second unit between Serikaniye and Tel Abyad, and the third unit will be deployed between Kobani and Tel Abyad," he said.

This however still leaves the region of Afrin vulnerable to more Turkish attacks, although there is also a Russian army presence there.

The delegation of the US Army included 8 commanders of the coalition accompanied by leaders of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG), according to local sources.

The commanders visited the villages of Arade, Bir Knes, Jetele, and Qarmane, which were targeted by the Turkish Army two days ago, beside inspecting the positions that were hit.

"US troops are now in an air base near Derbassiye, after inspecting the sites of Turkish shelling in the nearby villages," local Kurdish journalist Can Mirzo told ARA News. "Kurdish Asayish forces were also deployed at checkpoints near the town and prevented strangers from entering the area," he said.

Trump signs order to expand offshore oil, gas drilling
Another blow to the discretionary spending accounts of the Gulf Arabs and Iran, among others.
[AA.TR] President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
signed an executive order Friday that aims to expand offshore drilling for crude oil and natural gas in the Arctic and Atlantic oceans.

The order calls for a review of off-shore locations available for oil and gas exploration.

"Our country is blessed with incredible natural resources, including abundant offshore oil and natural gas reserves," Trump said in remarks before signing the order.

"But the federal government has kept 94 percent of these offshore areas closed for exploration and production. This deprives our country of potentially thousands and thousands of jobs and billions of dollars in wealth."

The order is the latest in a string of recent attempts to dismantle the environmental policy legacy of Trump's predecessor, President Barack Obama

Trade Wars 101 - US Coal not shipped from Canadian Ports
[ProgressiveRailroading] Canadian Premier Christy Clark of British Columbia has asked Prime Minister Justin Trudeau to end the export of U.S. coal out of British Columbia's ports.

Clark's request comes in the wake of President Donald Trump's decision to impose tariffs of up to 24 percent on Canadian lumber shipped into the United States.

In a letter sent April 26 to Trudeau, Clark said that she told her constituents "that I would use every tool at our disposal to ensure we get a fair deal on softwood lumber."

In the meantime, she wanted to work with Trudeau on banning the shipment of U.S. thermal coal from British Columbia's ports. She noted that, for many years, the United States has shipped the coal through the ports on its way to Asia. Despite her environmental concerns about thermal coal, she hasn't pressed the issue because "friends and trading partners cooperate," her letter stated.
But now, NOW I have environmental issues!
Banning the transport of U.S. thermal coal through British Columbia would be consistent with efforts by the province and Canada to reduce global greenhouse gas emissions, she noted.

"As you may know, over the past five years, every proposed coal export facility on the West Coast of the United States has been rejected or withdrawn, typically as a result of left-coast ecological or environmental concerns," Clark said, adding that provincial governments and U.S. western states are phasing out the use of thermal coal as a source of electricity.

"By eliminating thermal coal shipments from British Columbian ports, we can open up additional capacity for metallurgical coal that is used to make long-lasting steel, not burned to produce short-term electricity," Clark's letter stated.
Burning any kind of coal releases CO2, sister.

40 dead in clashes between Islamist militants near Damascus
[Al Ahram] Fierce festivities between Islamist turbans near Damascus left at least 40 dead and 70 maimed on Friday, a monitoring group said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the festivities pitted the Saudi-backed rebel faction Jaish al-Islam
...Liwa al-Islam (Brigade of Islam) was established by Zahran Alloush, the son of Saudi-based religious scholar Abdullah Mohammed Alloush, after Syrian authorities released him from prison in mid-2011 where he had been serving time for his Salafist activism. The group claimed responsibility for carrying out the July 2012 Damascus bombing that killed Defense Minister Dawoud Rajiha, Deputy Defense Minister Asef Shawkat, and Assistant Vice President Hassan Turkmani. It was a driving force behind actions in the Damascus region. It cooperated and conducted joint operations with al-Nusra. "There were at least 15 dead among the ranks of Jaish al-Islam and 23 among its adversaries" as well as two civilians, the Britannia-based Observatory said.

Another 70 were maimed.

Jaish al-Islam said its opponents had provoked the festivities by harassing reinforcements headed for Qabun, east of the Syrian capital, a front with regime forces.

Faylaq al-Rahman denied the allegation.

In May 2016, more than 300 people were killed in a battle between the two sides.

Berlin terror cell nabbed after arrests in Italy and Germany
[DW] Italian police have revealed that they helped dismantle a Berlin-based cell of Islamic Death Eaters. The suspects reportedly had links to Christmas market attack suspect Anis Amri, who was rubbed out in Italia.

Italian police said on Friday that they had helped break up an 11-person terror cell based in Berlin not long after Anis Amri allegedly plowed a truck into a Christmas market in the city, killing 12 people.

The operation to dismantle the group was completed at the end of January but is just now being revealed. The investigation into the group began after authorities picked up two of the cell's members in the Italian port of Ancona on December 4, 2016.

Congolese citizen Nkanga Lutumba and Moroccan citizen Soufiane Amri were planning to travel to Syria to join the so-called "Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. " (IS) terrorist group when they were picked up by the authorities, Italian police said.

From there, authorities continued their investigation into the two men, monitoring Lutumba and tracing calls back to the Berlin-based terror cell.

Three other members of the group were tossed in the clink

at the border between Croatia and Serbia in December.

Italian police also said members of the terrorist cell were frequently in contact with Anis Amri, who was a regular visitor at the place where Soufiane Amri and Lutumba lived.

Amri was rubbed out by Italian police on December 23, four days after carrying out the attack at the Berlin Christmas market.

Parallel German investigations led to four arrests on January 31.
The Local - Germany adds:
The departure of Nkanga, 26, and Soufiane Amri, 22, was delayed by a Greek ferry strike and it was during the unexpected delay that they were subject to an identity check which revealed that Germany had banned Amri from leaving the country.

Amri was deported to Germany while Nkanga was detained in a centre for failed asylum-seekers awaiting deportation in the southeastern port of Brindisi.

Subsequent investigations and monitoring of Nkanga's telephone calls from the centre established that the two men had been travelling with false documents and were in regular contact with other members of the cell based in the central Berlin district of Moabit.

Three other members of the group were tossed in the clink
Youse'll never take me alive coppers!... [BANG!]... Ow!... I quit!
on December 4th at Bajakovo at the border between Croatia and Serbia, the Italian police said. Emrah Civelek, Feysel Hermann and Husan Saed Hussein were also said to have been trying to get to Iraq or Syria.

Mosque closed down
Civelek was described as a Berlin taxi driver who was involved in the running of the "Fussilet 33" mosque which was closed down in February because of concerns it was a meeting place for Islamists.

A Tunisian national unrelated to his Moroccan namesake, Anis Amri was rubbed out by Italian police in Milan on December 23rd.

The Berlin cell which the Italians described as "a very diverse group of Lion of Islams," were all legally resident in Germany, between 20 and 30 years of age and with identical records of radicalisation.

All members of the group have been indicted in Italia for having links to international terrorism while the two suspects initially detained on Italian soil are also specifically charged with links to Isis and raising funds for the group.

Greenfield: Culture of Contempt
[SultanKnish] The Atlantic’s May cover features Alec Baldwin covered in orange makeup holding up a Trump wig. The cover asks, “Can Satire Save the Republic?” What is satire saving the Republic from? Republicans. While making America safe for Socialism.

After Bush won, Democrats fought back by doubling down on the ridicule. Before long they were getting their news from Jon Stewart’s smirk. Stewart spawned a whole range of imitators. Today you can find numberless clones of the Daily Show across cable and even on CBS and, soon, on NBC.

The left is devoutly convinced that this snickering can save America. That it’s better than the news.

The Peabody awards celebrated the Daily Show as “a trusted source of news for citizens united in their disappointment and disgust with politics and cable news”. But the media was the first in line to anoint the politics of contempt, ridicule and disgust as the future of journalism. Now the future is here.

The Washington Post, once a paper of record, swarms with snarky Stewartesque headlines like, “Jeff Sessions doesn’t think a judge in Hawaii — a.k.a. ‘an island in the Pacific’ — should overrule Trump”. Journalism is dead. And replacing it with snarky lefty spin hasn’t saved the Republic. Or anything else.

But the left’s faith in the power of its contempt has nothing to do with its tactical effectiveness.

The left remains convinced that Jon Stewart brought down Bush and Tina Fey brought down Palin because ridiculing the right isn’t just an ugly tactic. Instead it carries an almost religious meaning. Mocking Republicans can save us. Every ideology expresses its superiority through its own triumphalism. Sneering is the left’s own invocation of its own superiority. These are the grown up politics of kids who were convinced that they were better than everyone else because they looked down on them.

Much as Allahu Akbar denotes the superiority of the Muslim and the inferiority of the non-Muslim, the knowing smirk, the lifted eyebrow and the braying laugh of the audience when the unironic applause sign flashes is the prayer of the progressive to the cruel little god of his own ego. The ritual is tribal. A lefty dons the mock wig of the hated enemy and is ritually humiliated for the entertainment of the tribes of Manhattan, Berkeley and Marin County. The foe is destroyed in effigy. The video of his destruction is virally spread with titles such as, “Saturday Night Live Destroys Trump”.

province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) said the group’s leader in charge of communications and relations Qari Nafiz was among 36 killed during the Arclight airstrikes and ground clearance operations in Achin district.

Several hideouts and a tunnel used by ISIS forces of Evil were also destroyed during the operations.

MoD further added that 9 ISIS forces of Evil were killed and two others were maimed during a separate operation conducted in Haska Mina district.

According to MoD, the operation in Haska Mina involved Arclight airstrikes but no further details were given if the Arclight airstrike was carried out by the US forces or the Afghan Air Force.

Nangarhar is among the relatively calm provinces in eastern Afghanistan but the anti-government armed Death Eater groups have recently increased their insurgency activities in some parts of the province during the recent years.

Both the Afghan and US forces conducted regular strikes against the loyalists of the terror group in this province.

The increased raids, usually involving dronezaps, by the US forces followed a broader role granted by the B.O. regime earlier last year.

Megyn Kelly to Kick Off NBC Show with Kardashian Family Interview
[Breitbart] Megyn Kelly is gearing up for the debut of her Sunday newsmagazine show on NBC in June -- and the anchor’s first high-profile interview on her new network may be with the Kardashian family.

According to TMZ, the former Fox News star was spotted in Los Angeles Thursday morning headed into the same studio in which the Kardashian-Jenner family were filming a 10th anniversary special for Today.

The whole family was reportedly there, including Kim, Khloe, and Kourtney Kardashian and Kylie, Kendall, and Kris Jenner -- though brother Rob Kardashian was absent, as was Caitlyn Jenner, who remained in New York on a press tour.

Sources told TMZ that Kelly taped an interview with the family and it would be the centerpiece of the anchor’s debut Sunday news show on NBC in June.

This Week in Guns, April 29th, 2017

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

An interesting topic came up at the AK Operator's Union in Facebook. (Sorry, no link.) Someone ran Russian made 7N6 ammunition (5.45x39mm 53 Grain) through a radar gun, finding that the velocities of the rounds fired were consistent within 17.37 FPS Standard Deviation from round to round. The same test was applied to Wolf brand (made by Barnaul, 60 Grain) 5.45x39mm ammunition to find the standard deviation from round to round was much higher at 39.27 FPS. There was no indication of the size of the sampling. One reader commented that such a difference could explain pooch loads, where the projectile failed to exit the barrel.

No, it wouldn't. But those differences do explain problems with targeting, especially at the extreme range for iron sights, about 400 meters for the AK-74. If you fire over open sights with a hot round like the Barnaul ammunition, you tend to expect similar, not better, but similar performance as compared to 5.56x45 AR ammunition, its closest rival. The problem for AK-74 shooters such as myself is that if Barnaul makes such crappy ammunition and the Russian surplus ammo is so good, the only option left is Hornady's offering. Hornady's costs about double the Silver Bear 60 grain ammunition I use.

Some of the problems in target shooting the AK-74 can be explained because the 60 grain bullet is the next lightest bullet size available, and is a much heavier bullet than the 7N6. The AK-74 was made to fire the 53 grain bullet. You can adjust your aim past 100 yards only so much before you start to get into unfamiliar territory. The news of inconsistent powder charges, if that is the cause, makes it much more difficult to settle on a round that will hit consistently out to 400 yards.

I still have about 2,000 rounds left.

Tomorrow in Pikeville, Kentucky there is supposed to be a meeting of the League of the South, which the Atlanta Antifa gang claims they plan to disrupt. I read that a call for help went out, but this sounds much like previous calls made, as it turned out by government paid snitches. Many of those people are associated with white supremacists and if so, you know the government will not only be there watching, they also will have their snitches there running the show -- for both sides.

Loads.

Rantburg's summary for arms and ammunition:

Pistol ammunition prices were steady. Rifle ammunition prices were mostly steady.

Prices for used pistols were mostly higher. Prices for used rifles were mixed.

New Lows:

Texas: 9mm (Beretta 92FS or other Semiautomatic): Taurus PT1911: $199

#1  Going back in time, an interesting 1838 repeating rifle. Called a chain gun.

Epenetus A. Bennett and Frederick P. Havilland were both from Waterville, Maine and both trained to some degree as gunsmiths. Their device, dubbed the “underhammer” because of its under the gun cocking apparatus, used comprised of a series of rectangular blocks hinged together along a chain. These blocks were hollowed out to accept a powder and ball, the theory being the block would advance around the chain mechanism, lining up into the breech, and loading the weapon; the weapon fed incrementally left to right with a full stop in the breech position, fired and moved rearward toward the butt stock on the chain for the next shot.

The under hammer released the chain and was hand cocked with each shot until all 12 rounds were rotated into place, each fired courtesy of a side hammer for ignition and a conventional trigger.

The problem (and the problem really with all long rifles featuring revolving mechanisms) was the fore-end grip caught breech blowback from the cylinder meaning the shooter’s hand inevitably took abuse. Of more concern, if a chain fire did occur (which was not unheard of) the rifleman would end up, at the least, with a badly burnt wrist and fingers, at the worst, the loss of his or her life as the rifle could potentially fire backwards, forwards and to either side.

It is believed that only 10 of them were made.

#3  I was always of the uninformed, untested opinion that the steel shell of Wolf did not deform (or as much) to the chamber contours during ignition impulse, whereas brass did.

I further assumed arbitrary combustion gas pulse wave cancellation occurred due to energy reflections from the now deformed shell wall volume and the base of the bullet, which also may be seated some random manufacturing error distance down the shell neck and not secured by the chamber head.

I guess this all started with a compressed gas cylinder ignition model I was reviewing.

Shitz a mystery to me.

#4  I've heard tell the steel in steel casings is actually softer than brass casings, so that would explain deformation in the chamber.

As you say, we can only surmise.

A lot of possibilities that would explain the lack of consistency in the Wolf brand ammo. Could be an error in bullet being oversized, or the cartridge neck is too tight. Could be the powder charge.

My experience with Barnaul ammunition is that it is good ammunition for the price, but from time to time you get a cartridge that is slightly out of tolerance, which gets stuck in the chamber in the spent casing ejection phase of the firing cycle. Not every round and not even one from every box. Last fall I had two stuck casings from the same box, something that has never happened before and has not happened since, something I attribute to an out of tolerance cartridge casing.

Thanks for the expositions and the links, Joluter Snavitch6674 and Skid.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
6 Palestinians said injured in violent clashes with IDF
[IsraelTimes] Red Islamic Thingy says live fire used against West Bank rioters demonstrating in solid.

Six Paleostinians were maimed Friday by live fire during a number of festivities in the West Bank between Israeli security forces and protesters, a spokesperson for the Paleostinian Red Islamic Thingy told The Times of Israel.

The festivities occurred amid a "day of rage" called by the Fatah leadership in solidarity with Paleostinian prisoners on a hunger strike in Israeli jails.

Friday marks the twelfth day of the strike.

Three people were maimed by live fire in the village of Nabi Saleh, near Ramallah. They were in stable, pH balanced condition, the spokesperson said.

Additionally, outside Beit Omar, a village near Hebron, three were maimed by gunfire, and are in stable, pH balanced condition, the spokesperson said.

The Red Islamic Thingy spokesperson added that eight people were treated for suffocation from being exposed to tear gas during festivities in Beta, a village near the city of Nablus.

The IDF said that around 2,000 Paleostinians took part in protests across the West Bank, some of which turned violent. The IDF responded with riot dispersal means, which in some instances included rubber bullets. The IDF could not immediately confirm whether live fire was used.

Some 1,500 Paleostinian security prisoners have been fasting for nearly two weeks over demands ranging from improved medical care to greater access to telephone calls.

The detainees, led by Marwan Barghouti, who is serving five life terms for murder during the Second Intifada, launched the hunger strike on April 17.

A series of demonstrations have been held in the West Bank in support of the prisoners, occasionally resulting in festivities with Israeli forces.

Paleostinian leaders have denounced Israel’s refusal to negotiate with the hunger strikers, warning of a "new intifada" if any of them die.

In a separate incident on Friday, Israeli security forces nabbed
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
a Paleostinian woman in possession of two knives at the Qalandia checkpoint north of Jerusalem. The suspect was taken in for questioning.

Three Indian soldiers, two Kashmiris killed in attack on mly base
[DAWN] A 70-year-old civilian was killed and seven other people were maimed during an anti-India protest that erupted on Thursday following a shootout that killed three military personnel and two forces of Evil in India-held Kashmire, sources said.

A group of forces of Evil stormed a military camp close to the heavily militarised Line of Control dividing the disputed Himalayan region, army front man Col Rajesh Kalia said.

The forces of Evil hurled grenades and fired automatic weapons at the highly guarded camp in Panzgam, northwest of Srinagar, a police officer said.

Two forces of Evil were killed in an ensuing shootout, while another was believed to have escaped, the officer said.

He said three security personnel, including an army officer, were killed and five soldiers maimed in the attack. The injured soldiers were airlifted to the Indian army’s main base in Srinagar for treatment.

No holy warrior group fighting against Indian rule in the region immediately issued any statement about the attack.

However,
ars longa, vita brevis...
scores of villagers assembled outside the army camp in Panzgam in solidarity with the forces of Evil and chanted pro-freedom slogans and demanded that bodies of the slain forces of Evil be handed over to them for their last rites, the police officer said.

He said soldiers fired at the protesters after they hurled rocks at an army vehicle leaving the camp. A 70-year-old man was killed and at least seven others maimed in the firing, he said.

Villagers said the slain man was not part of the protest and was hit by a bullet in the chest.

In another protest, hundreds of villagers erupted into the streets a few kilometres from the site of the shootout and hurled rocks at police and paramilitary soldiers, who fired tear gas and warning shots to break up the demonstration. No one was reported injured in those festivities.

and an intelligence agency, acting on a tip-off about the presence of suspected bad boys, launched a search operation in Gowak, a town near the Pakistain-Iran border.

They said that the Death Eaters opened fire on the security forces, causing injuries to two soldiers of the FC. The security forces cordoned off the area and returned fire.

"Five members of a banned bad boy organization were killed in the exchange of fire that lasted an hour," Turbat Deputy Commissioner retired Capt Sarmad Saleem said.

Reviving Pak-India ties
[DAWN] THE perilous state of Pakistain-India relations ought to be a matter of urgent concern for both state and society in the two countries. Anything done to nudge open a door to dialogue or prevent a further deterioration in relations should be welcomed. Yet, a perplexing and disturbing campaign of suspicion and mistrust has been unleashed against the PML-N government following the revelation that Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
has met with Indian industrialist Sajjan Jindal, known to be a personal friend and emissary of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi. Remarkably, the PPP too has added its voice to the chorus of condemnation, the party seemingly willing to cast aside all good sense in a desperate bid to damage the PML-N in any way it can. Some perspective is essential here.

The PML-N has done itself few favours with its inept handling of the backlash in some sections of the media and the public. First daughter Maryam Nawaz’s tweet about the meeting between Prime Minister Sharif and Mr Jindal was patronising and tone deaf. Political ineptness though does not invalidate the likely idea behind the meeting. Every government has come to understand and embrace the benefit of back channels in the Pakistain-India relationship. Former president and army chief Pervez Perv Musharraf
... former dictator of Pakistain, who was less dictatorial and corrupt than any Pak civilian government to date ...
used back-channel negotiations to open a dialogue on a possible permanent settlement of the Kashmire dispute. His foreign minister, Khurshid Kasuri, has publicly reiterated the value of back channels in recent days. In the current scenario, the Indian media itself has speculated that Mr Jindal’s visit to Pakistain may be a prelude to a meeting between Mr Sharif and Mr Modi on the sidelines of the Shanghai Cooperation Organisation summit in Kazakhstan in June. Mr Jindal as a trusted emissary of the Indian prime minister and, in Maryam Nawaz’s own telling, a friend of Mr Sharif is well placed to be an interlocutor. Ought not the elected prime minister of the country have the prerogative to arrange a meeting with the Indian prime minister?

If a meeting does take place in June, what remains to be seen is if the leaders can find a way to not only re-establish dialogue but to put it on a sustainable path. The flurry of high-level diplomacy in late 2015, with the two prime ministers meeting during the Gay Paree climate summit and Mr Sharif hosting Mr Modi in his Raiwind home during a surprise stopover by the Indian prime minister, produced a decision to restart talks, rebranded as full-spectrum dialogue. But the Pathankot attack derailed the process. The so-called terror proofing of dialogue ought to be one of the main planks of any fresh effort to restart talks; a difficult task, but one that is clearly necessary. The two prime ministers must explain to their respective nations why dialogue is the only option

Ah Yes, Platte River Networks: House Committee Seeks Charges For Beest's IT Firm
[Daily Caller] A House committee is referring the head of a company that managed Hillary Clinton’s private email server to the Justice Department for obstruction of justice and making false statements.

Texas Rep. Lamar Smith, the chairman of the House Science, Space and Technology Committee, issued the referral for Treve Suazo, the CEO of Platte River Networks.

"With a new administration in place, I am hopeful that the Department of Justice will appropriately respond to the referral. We cannot allow companies with valuable information to stonewall us in our oversight efforts," Smith said in a statement.

Platte River, which is based in Denver, took over management of Clinton’s server in June 2013, several months after Clinton left the State Department. Prior to that, the email system, which housed thousands of classified documents, was managed by State Department IT worker Bryan Pagliano.
Any bets on how long it will be until we discover PRN has ties to the intelligence community and the 'National Security' cone of silence must be lowered ?

CTD kills three suspects in Khanewal ‘encounter’
[DAWN] The Counter Terrorism Department (CTD) of police claimed on Thursday to have killed three forces of Evil in an encounter in Lucky Tibbi Area of Khanewal. Another team incarcerated
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
three suspects in Gujranwala.

A CTD front man said a team of law enforcers in Multan received intelligence reports that seven or eight members of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi
... a 'more violent' offshoot of Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain. LeJ's purpose in life is to murder anyone who's not of utmost religious purity, starting with Shiites but including Brelvis, Ahmadis, Christians, Jews, Buddhists, Rosicrucians, and just about anyone else you can think of. They are currently a wholly-owned subsidiary of al-Qaeda ...
(LeJ) were hiding in a house in Lucky Tibbi Area and were planning to attack sensitive installations. He said the CTD team raided the hideout and asked the forces of Evil to surrender late on Wednesday night.

He said the forces of Evil after seeing police shot up them and the latter retaliated. When the firing stopped, three forces of Evil were found dead while their four or five accomplices managed to escape taking benefit of darkness.

The front man said two of the forces of Evil were identified as Inamur Raheem and Usman Jaleel and efforts were carried out to identify the third. He said they also recovered four hand grenades, two pistols, ammunition and two rifles they had snatched from the law-enforcement agencies some time back. The bodies were shifted to morgue.

Lucky Tibbi is one of the most notorious areas in Punjab

2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

Britain
Why acid attacks are on the rise in Britain
Especially for Fred, who commented on a report of an acid attack in Britain the other day.
[USAToday] Twenty people at a packed nightclub here suffered chemical burns from an acid-like substance thrown at them on April 17, an attack that authorities say reflects a frightening trend.

Toxic substances such as drain cleaner are being used as weapons more frequently, apparently as a result of a crackdown on guns and knives in recent years.

Metropolitan Police figures from March show attacks involving corrosive fluids in London jumped 74% from 261 in 2015 to 454 in 2016 -- a huge spike from 166 in 2014. Across Britannia, such attacks increased 30% between 2012 and 2015, according to the London Times.

"It’s a growing problem, there’s no question," said Jaf Shah, executive director of Acid Survivors Trust International, a London charity that supports victims, predominantly in South Asia, where acid attacks are more common.

Shah said acid attacks in other countries usually involve men targeting females. The reasons are often over spurned marriage proposals or sexual advances. In Britannia, young men are mainly targeting other young men in violence that is often gang-related. British law is not specific about banning acid as a weapon, so gang members may use it to avoid prosecution, he said.

Even so, acid attackers are often convicted of assault or a more serious charge of grievous bodily harm, which carries a maximum life sentence. Since 2015, the government has required vendors to report suspicious transactions involving sulfuric acid to police because it can be used to manufacture explosives.

"(Corrosive substances) are extremely easy to get hold of (in Britannia). You can buy them from hardware stores and don't have to register why you're purchasing it or what you want to use it for," said Simon Harding, a professor of criminology at London's Middlesex University.

"If you throw (acid) in someone’s face it’s going to affect their eyes and eyesight so you have a high chance of getting away with it. It’s a very easy thing to do. You can ride up to someone on a bike and throw it at them."

Al-Qaeda denies being targeted by Saudi Arabia in Yemen

Saudi Arabia said it had arrested several Al-Qaeda leaders in the Hadramaut region on the southern coast of Yemen on April 26. Meanwhile, AQAP insisted it to be utter fabrication.

Ex-Congresswoman Ripped Off Own Charity To Fund Lavish Lifestyle
[DAILYCALLER] Prosecutors in Florida say a former congresswoman took money from a charitable foundation for poor children and instead used it to pay for concert tickets and Beverly Hills shopping sprees.

Federal attorneys on Wednesday opened their case in the trial of Corrine Brown, who from 2013 to 2017 was the Democratic representative from Florida’s 5th congressional district. Brown stands accused of multiple fraud and conspiracy charges for allegedly funneling contributions from the scholarship charity she started, One Door for Education, to her personal bank accounts.

Between 2012 and 2016, Brown and two close associates raised more than $800,000, much of which they transferred to their personal accounts, prosecutors say. The trio allegedly spent the money on vacations, luxury goods and tickets to a Beyonce concert, among other expenses.
A case or two of MD 20/20 just wasn't good enough.
"She knew exactly how to lie to these donors, and knew exactly where the cash money was going," Assistant U.S. Attorney A. Tysen Duva said in his opening statement.

Brown’s defense team disputed the prosecution’s characterization of Brown as a manipulative, venal politician.

Defense counsel James Smith told jurors that his aging client was swindled by her former chief of staff, Elias "Ronnie" Simmons, the News Agency that Dare Not be Named reported.

Brown, 70, didn’t know how to email or text, he added, and could not have been responsible for generating the emails cited by the prosecution as evidence of collusion.

The prosecution countered by highlighting Brown’s firsthand participation in One Door’s fundraising efforts. Its first witness, local real estate developer John Picerne, testified that Brown personally talked to him on the phone about a $10,000 donation.

Prosecutors may ultimately be aided in their case by Simmons and Carla Wiley, the former president of One Door.

Both have already pleaded guilty to charges related to Brown’s case and are expected to testify against their former boss.

Bangladesh
RAB: Militants were planning to ship bombs on cargo vessels
[Dhaka Tribune] Three turbans including a close associate of Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury were tossed in the clink
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
by RAB on Thursday night from Savar.

Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) found firearms and bomb-making materials in their possession and said they are members of a new faction of the banned myrmidon outfit Jama’atul Mujahideen Bangladesh, New JMB’s Sarwar-Tamim group.

The three men have been identified as Tamim Dwari alias Abdullah Al Hasan alias Azizur Rahman alias Abdullah Al Jafri alias Amir Hamza alias Al Huzaifa alias Sri Gowrango Kumar Mandol, 32,
...but his poor old mother just called him Son....
Kamrul Hasan alias Kajol alias Nur Uddin, 26, and Md Mostofa Mozumder alias Shihab alias Hamza, 32.

RAB Legal and Media Wing Director Mufti Mahmud Khan confirmed their arrest yesterday during a presser, saying: "Acting on a tip-off we searched a bus at Rajfulbaria bus stand coming from Paturia launch terminal where we apprehended the three members of Sarwar-Tamim group around 10pm on Thursday.

"We found one foreign-made pistol, five rounds of bullets, 1.15kg of plastic explosives made with the help of a bomb expert, a lot of bomb-making materials, three folding knives, one machete, laptops and foreign currencies in their possession."

RAB said the three came to Dhaka to carry out subversive activities.

The close associate of Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury, the criminal mastermind behind the Gulshan terror attack, is Tamim Dwari, a Hindu convert and a marine engineer, who was devising a plan to transport bomb-making materials and other weapons on shipping boats with Tamin Ahmed Chowdhury, said RAB.

RAB also said they were recruiting trustworthy members of the group to help transport these bombs with fake passports and visas.

Tamim and Tamim: Brothers in arms
Tamim Dwari was radicalised sometime in 2003, according to RAB, after making friends with a man called Tanvir Kabir and attending the Tabligh Jamaat with him. After studying at Shahjalal University of Science and Technology in 2005, he transferred to the Chittagong Marine Academy and finished his degree in 2007.

In 2013, while working as a marine engineer on the fat merchantman Banglar Kakoli, Tamim Dwari found a former university friend Abu Baker on a voyage to Pakistain. Their conversations circled around global prosecution of Moslems and what they could do about that to which Abu Baker suggested jihad was the only way.

In December 2013, Abu Bakar introduced Tamim Dwari to Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury as the man who had come from abroad to fight jihad in Bangladesh.

RAB’s Mufti Mahmud said this initial meeting had a deep impact on Tamim Dwari who invited Tamim to visit him in Chittagong.

In January 2014, they met at Patenga, Chittagong where Dwari showed Tamim Ahmed Chowdhury around the fat merchantman Banglar Doot where they discussed at length the ways in which they would transport bombs and bomb-making materials along with recruitments of trustworthy turbans and how they could acquire fake passports and visas for them.

In mid-2014, they met again in Dhaka in a flat in Mirpur DOHS along with Mir Farhad, Ashraf, Himel, Abdullah, Abu Bakar and three other unknown turbans to plan myrmidon attacks across the country.

RAB’s Mufti Mahmud said in July 2015 Tamim Dwari was admitted to the International Maritime Training Academy but dropped out and joined the general fat merchantman Bashundhara-4 in August 2016 to hide his deep involvement with militancy.

In November 2016, he was most likely fired and he said to have left home for hizrat (leaving home for jihad) in January 2017.

Coughing, convulsing and calls for probe after Arkansas execution
[Reuters] A lawyer for an executed Arkansas death row inmate asked the state on Friday to investigate why his client coughed and convulsed on a death chamber gurney, saying a lethal injection drug may have been the cause.

A separate group of lawyers for Arkansas death row inmates asked a federal court to preserve evidence in the four executions Arkansas held over eight days this month, saying in a lawsuit that the state's protocols "did not prevent an execution by torture."

Arkansas, which had not held an execution in 12 years, concluded its executions series by putting to death Kenneth Williams on Thursday night. Accounts of his execution raised fresh concerns about whether the sedative midazolam, a Valium-like drug, is effective in lethal injection mixes.

Witnesses said Williams, who admitted to killing four people, jerked and gasped for air for about 30 seconds a few minutes after his execution began. The state said it was a routine execution lasting about 15 minutes, but critics said something was amiss.

And as far as the mutt in question:

Kenneth Williams, 38, initially was sentenced to life in prison for the 1998 killing of Dominique Hurd, a university cheerleader. He was later convicted of capital murder after he escaped from prison in 1999 and killed Cecil Boren.

ISIS on its last legs as the Syrian Army imposes full control over gas field in east Homs
[ALMASDARNEWS] On Thursday evening, the Syrian Arab Army (SAA) seized the last oil wells in the al-Shaer Gas Fields of eastern Homs, thereby completely expelling ISIS from one of the country’s largest gas fields.

The last point to be captured was the 105th gas well which was seized in a joint operation conducted by the 5th Legion alongside elements of the SAA’s 11th and 18th division.

Meanwhile,

Afghanistan
Afghanistan reacts at Taliban’s announcement of spring offensive
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Ministry of Defense o f Afghanistan reacted at the announcement of spring offensive by the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
forces of Evil under the name of Mansoori operations.

The Ministry of Defense (MoD) front man Gen. Dawlat Waziri said the latest spring offensive announced by the Taliban will only lead to destruction and casualties of the innocent civilians in the country.

Gen. Waziri further added that the Afghan cops will utilize all the available resources to thwart the plots laid by the Taliban under the name of Mansoori operations in a bid to ensure the protection of the national illusory sovereignty of the country.

He said the Afghan forces are committed to any kind of sacrifices to ensure peace and stability for the people of Afghanistan.

This comes as the Talibs group in Afghanistan announced the launch of their new spring offensive under the name of Mansoori, vowing to carry out more attacks across the country.

The group said earlier today that the operation has been named after their former leader Mullah Akhtar Mansoor, claiming that they had major achievements on the political and military level under his leadership.

The group also claims that their operation will have two phases, a civilian phase to provide good administration and support to the civilians in the areas under their control, while the military phase will focus more on seizing more areas and carrying more attacks in the form of coordinated attacks, guerilla attacks, suicide kabooms, insider attacks, murders, and more.

Britain
Police foil 'active terror plot' as woman is shot and six are arrested in north London raid
[Telegraph] A police operation in north London during which a woman was shot, foiled an active terror plot, Scotland Yard has said.

Armed officers raided a property in the Willesden area shortly after 7pm on Thursday evening and a woman in her 20s was shot by police.

Six people were tossed in the calaboose
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
during the operation and police said the woman remained in a serious but stable condition in hospital.

The raid took place at a Victorian property on Harlesden Road and locals reported hearing a number of shots as heavily armed officers from the Met's Counter Terror Specialist Firearms command stormed the house.

The operation took place just a few hours after a man was arrested in Westminster on suspicion of terrorism offences after being stopped close to Downing Street carrying a rucksack packed with knives.
That would be Khalid Mohammed Omar Ali, 27, born abroad and reared in Tottenham.
But Scotland Yard said the two matters were unrelated.

Deputy Assistant Commissioner, Neil Basu said: "Our highly trained firearms officers carried out a specialist entry into an address in Harlesden Road that we had under observation as part of a current Counter Terrorism investigation.

"An armed entry was necessary due to the nature of the intelligence that we were dealing with, and involved armed officers firing CS into the address.

"During the course of that operation one of the subjects of that operation - a woman - was shot by police - she remains in hospital.

"Her condition is serious but stable. Because of her condition she has not yet been arrested. We are monitoring her condition closely."

He added: "In total six people have now been arrested in connection with that investigation - five at or near the address and one in Kent.

"The two further arrests were made when a man and a woman - both aged 28 - returned to the address later last night.

"Searches are ongoing at three London addresses - including Harlesden Road - as part of this investigation.

"Due to these arrests that we have made, I believe that we have contained the threats that they posed."

Locals described how they saw heavily armed officers wearing bulletproof vests stormed the address just after 7pm. They said the house was occupied by a family of three who were occasionally visited by a an older woman in her 40s.

Neighbours said the injured woman was brought out of the house on a stretcher, wearing a burkha. One said she shouted "don't touch my body" as paramedics tried to tend to her wounds.

Police said six people had been arrested including a 16-year-old boy and a 20-year-old woman who were detained at the address. A 20-year-old man was arrested near to the address and a 43-year-old woman was arrested in Kent a short while later. Two further people, a man and woman both aged 28, were arrested when they returned to the address last night. All four have been arrested on suspicion of the commission, preparation and instigation of terrorist acts under section 41 of the terrorism act 2000.

Baltimore Is Begging Feds To Step In To Restore Law And Order
[DAILYCALLER] Baltimore’s mayor asked the FBI to send in reinforcements Wednesday to help the city get its murders under control.

Mayor Catherine Pugh, speaking at a news conference, explained she went to the FBI’s Baltimore office for extra agents to join with police officers in combating a skyrocketing murder count, reports CNN.

“Murder is out of control. There are too many guns on the streets. We’re looking for all the help we can get,” Pugh said.

The city already has 101 murders for the year, a number not seen in almost 20 years. The mayor’s spokesperson warned the violence could rise in the summer months.

“The summers in Baltimore tend to be very violent,” Anthony McCarthy told CNN. “And the mayor wants to get a handle on all the murders, the flood of guns on the streets and the gang activity.”

On top of an over 30 percent increase in murders, the city is also experiencing a shortage in police officers. The city is operating with the lowest number of officers in about a decade — 2,500 police officers. Usually, the department has 2,900 officers.

“You get in a crisis mode like we’re in right now with crime out of control and not enough uniformed officers on the street, I would say it’s at a crisis point,” Baltimore’s Fraternal Order of Police President Lt. Gene Ryan said.

The department is paying out $1 million in overtime just to make up for the difference.

“We continue to work with all of our federal partners to address the repeat violent offenders who have been the source of much of the increased violent crime that we have experienced this year,” the Baltimore Police Department spokesperson told The Daily Caller News Foundation in a statement.

#16  Inmates have more rights than guards. The gangs use Moslem pray meetings for drug and general trouble efforts. Then in the city they have videos of police actions. Officers don't get out of the cruiser many times I understand in Baltimore as a result. Several lock downs in Western Maryland prisons this month already. Each prisoner has to be feed. This takes time and is tedious. A guard was stabbed 12 times with a shank hidden in a prosthetic leg. This inmate has done this before. Sent officer to local hospital where equipment was out of service(many hospitals are in a cash flow problem situation, insurances don't want to pay for anything). Shipped him out to shock trauma at Maryland University hospital for care. May never speak again because of a stab wound in voice box. His recovery is excellent. Police are not supported so this will continue. Go ahead and send in the Feds but they will be frustrated as well. As long as you have Democrats running things there nothing will improve. They are fighting Trump at every opportunity. So it will be business as usual. People will leave if they can. The state is paying people $2000. dollars to relocate. Exporting their problems. The crime goes with them. They lease a vehicle to transport drugs so if they are caught their private property is not confiscated. They return in a private vehicle or leased vehicle. They get more for their drugs out of Baltimore. We are involved in a die off event. The herd is being culled. Planned parenthood for adults.

Texas proposal looks to nullify federal law in between state lines
[FOXNEWS] A proposal in the GOP-led Legislature in Texas calls for the state to ignore federal law and court rulings and forgo enforcing national regulations.

State Rep. Cecil Bell's Texas Sovereignty Act allows for overriding federal laws through the same process as passing a bill. First a legislative committee, then the whole Legislature, would vote for nullification, and then the governor would sign his approval.

"If Texas has to live under Caliphornia, an impregnable bastion of the Democratic Party,'s environmental regulations because the court says, 'Oh no, Texas can't be Texas, Texas has to be identical to California,' this would make a legislative process to address that," Bell, a Republican from Magnolia, about 45 miles north of Houston.

Bell is "very thankful" Republicans control Washington but says he wants to prohibit future overreach from the federal government.

Arizona already has approved a similar policy, and other states want to follow suit, despite the Constitution's Supremacy Clause, which stipulates federal laws and treaties take precedence.

One key target could be legalization of gay marriage. In 2015, Bell introduced a bill prohibiting Texas from enforcing court orders sanctioning gay marriage -- a pre-emptive strike against the landmark Supreme Court decision later that year. The bill died on the last day to pass House legislation, but only amid Democratic stalling tactics.

Hindu temple desecrated in Sindh’s Gharo
[DAWN] Police in Gharo on Friday registered a First Information Report (FIR) against three persons for desecrating the deities inside a Hindu temple in Thatta.

According to community leaders, unknown miscreants entered the temple of Rama Pir and dumped their sacred idols in the sewage lines after desecrating them.

Gharo Town Committee Councillor Lal Mehshwari, while talking to Dawn, said the condemnable act was carried out on the eve of an annual festival at their place of worship, and urged the authorities concerned to take notice of the incident.

The police registered the FIR under sections of 295 A of the Pakistain Penal Code (PPC) and Sections 6 and 7 of the Anti-Terrorism Act (ATA) on behalf of the state.

SSP Thar Fida Hussain Mastoi said an investigation was under way, but no arrest was reported so far.

EU condemns the recent executions in Somalia
[SHABELLENEWS] The European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
considers the death penalty to be a cruel and inhumane punishment, which fails to provide deterrence to criminal behaviour and represents a denial of human dignity and integrity.

The EU Delegation regrets the news on the recent execution of several people in Somalia, and notes with growing concern the recurrent use of military courts in Somalia.

On Monday 24 April 2017, four alleged Al-Shabaab
... Somalia's version of the Taliban, functioning as an arm of al-Qaeda...
members were executed in Baidoa. The four were accused of carrying out a kaboom in Baidoa, Southwest state and sentenced by the Somalia Military Court.

There have also been several security personnel executed for killing civilians, including two coppers for murders that took place in Afgoye and Hudur respectively, and a soldier for a murder committed in Burhakabo. This is the second spate of executions in the month of April.

While the EU condemns in the strongest terms all acts of terror and supports the application of robust sentences that follow due process, the EU also opposes on principle grounds the death penalty in all circumstances.

The European Union considers the death penalty to be a cruel and inhumane punishment, which fails to provide deterrence to criminal behaviour and represents a denial of human dignity and integrity.

Local officials in Badakhshan reject fall of Zebak district
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The local government officials in northeastern Badakhshan province have rejected the fall of Zebak district.

Deputy provincial governor Gul Mohammad Bedar said the district has not fallen to Taliban

control but admitted that heavy festivities are underway in this district.

He said reports regarding the fall of the district are absolutely baseless but added that heavy festivities are underway around one kilometer near the district administrative compound.

This comes as the Taliban group front man Zabiullah Mujahid earlier said that the fighters of the group have managed to take control of the district.

The claim by the Taliban front man comes as the group announced its spring offensive in the early hours of Friday morning.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
the Ministry of Defense officials said the Afghan forces are fully prepared to respond to the psychological war of the war the Taliban group.

Ghani has handed over 50 percent of territory to Taliban, claims Massoud
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani
...former chancellor of Kabul University, now president of Afghanistan. Before returning to Afghanistan in 2002 he was a scholar of political science and anthropology. He worked at the World Bank working on international development assistance. As Finance Minister of Afghanistan between July 2002 and December 2004, he led Afghanistan's attempted economic recovery until the Karzais stole all the money. ..
has handed over the control of 50 percent of Afghanistan’s territory to Taliban
...the Pashtun equiovalent of men...
, the former presidential envoy Ahmad Zia Massoud claims.

Massoud was dismissed by President Mohammad Ashraf Ghani eleven days ago as the presidential palace said the step was taken as the post of the presidential envoy for reforms and good governance had proved as inefficient.

Speaking during a gathering in Kabul, Massoud said the country is facing the worst political and economical situation, apparently criticizing the government’s leadership for failure to main stability in the country.

Massoud claimed that the administration of President Ghani follows a dictatorship rule similar as Hafizullah Amin and emphasized that differences among different ethnic groups are on the rise.

In regards to his dismissal, Massoud said the decision was taken as he had not accepted slavery but did not elaborate further regarding his claims.

He also claimed that the government is attempting to weaken the security forces, pointing towards the recent attacks across the country and said the government is unable to ensure security for the people.

The former presidential envoy also added that the current government is not legitimate and insisted that he and his followers have taken back their votes which they casted to President Ghani during the 2014 controversial elections.

Huge rebel convoy heads towards Kurdish border town as Turkey gears up for offensive
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Turkish Armed Forces have reportedly drawn up plans to capture the Kurdish-held town of Tall Abyad and bring it under rebel control in a cross-border offensive comparable to the Euphrates Shield offensive last year.

Amateur footage emerged on Thursday, purportedly showing a large rebel convoy driving towards the Kurdish border town from the Jarabulus pocket through Turkish territory.

The Turkish Army has also amassed thousands of soldiers on its southern border, possibly regrouping to lead the Tall Abyad offensive. In the past 48 hours, Kurdish guided missiles have destroyed 5 tank, angering Ankara and causing concern in Washington.

Turkish troops have not yet been given the green light to launch the incursion upon Kurdish-held territory of northern Syria although the large-scale operation may begin in the days to come. 13 Turkish border posts came under fire from Kurdish bandidos gunnies on Thursday alone, a military statement claimed.
