Press Concerned After Trump Enters Room Accompanied By Imperial March
[Babylon Bee] WASHINGTON, D.C.‐Members of the White House Press Corp reported their terrified concern after the White House Band began playing the Imperial March ahead of a Trump press conference Thursday afternoon, sources confirmed.

The solemn march has historically been associated with the rise of the Galactic Empire.

"Well, this can't be a good sign," one posted on Twitter along with the footage of Trump entering the room accompanied by the tune. "Does the White House understand the significance of this song?!?"

White House musicians then transitioned to the Emperor's Theme, Duel of the Fates, and finally lightened things up a bit with a popular, upbeat Cantina song.

The President issued a public update on the progress of the federal government's latest project, a large battle station the approximate size of a small moon. "Everything is proceeding as I have foreseen," he said.

Trump was flanked by scores of Stormtroopers, Imperial guards, and TIE Fighter pilots, sources also confirmed at publishing time.

#5  It's funny because the party out of power always rants about the President staying in power after their second term. I heard this about Clinton, W, and Obama. I'm sure it'll start the day after Trump is re-elected.

Yet they always go away after their second term is up. Some don't go far enough away but at least they leave the white house.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Maureen Dowd: How the egomaniac in the Oval was ‘exonerated'
[Irish Times] Then it comes to presidential obstruction, at least Watergate started with a crime. A stupid crime, but a crime.

After 675 days, more than 2,800 subpoenas, nearly 500 search warrants, $30 million spent, endless jaw-jaw on cable and countless whiny Trump tweets, we have come down to one fundamental truth.

And it’s the same truth that has been terrorising us all along: Donald Trump’s dirtbag machinations are driven by insane vanity.

The First Narcissist’s all-consuming blend of braggadocio and insecurity has turned Washington and its rickety institutions into a dystopian outpost of his id.

President Trump obstructed on nearly every page of Volume II of the Mueller report, even though Robert Mueller was too lost in legalese to throw the book at him. The report counts as the Worst Exoneration Ever, replete with incrimination.

And Trump’s motivation for trying to subvert justice and turn the White House into a writhing nest of liars? His ego.

He did not want people to think that the Russians were responsible for his election and that he was an illegitimate president.

And why was this the burr under his sociopathic saddle? Obviously, because he thinks he is an illegitimate president. He never expected to win.

The idea that he is in the Oval Office under false pretences plays into his twisted sense of victimhood. The spoiled scion of Fifth Avenue somehow always finds a way to be aggrieved, a victim of the media, the deep state, "dirty cops", note-taking aides and the elites ‐ all out to get him.

#13  I suspect Mr. Trump did not expect to win against all of those seasoned Republican politicians, but rather wanted to inject his perspective into the conversation, and maybe garner some marketing benefits from the exposure. But clearly by the time he faced Hillary Clinton, he was all in.

As for Ms Dowd, by this point the New York Times may be stuck with a long term contract negotiated during palmier times for both parties.

Abandon ship! Beto's top aides are LEAVING his bumbling campaign already!
[RS] Well, it sure was fun making fun of the Democratic party’s favorite fake Mexican, Beto O’Rourke, but it looks like our time is coming to an end very soon.

Or at least, his aides certainly think so:
Two aides to former Rep. Beto O’Rourke (D-Texas) have reportedly departed his 2020 presidential campaign, an O’Rourke spokesperson told BuzzFeed News on Saturday.

Becky Bond, a top adviser to O’Rourke, and her deputy, Zack Malitz, have both left the campaign. The two worked on O’Rourke’s competitive 2018 Texas Senate bid against Sen. Ted Cruz (R-Texas).

Chris Evans, a spokesman for O’Rourke, said Bond and Malitz were staffers on a "temporary" basis and didn’t respond to questions about the reasons they left the campaign, BuzzFeed News reported.

Bond told BuzzFeed News in a statement that it was "time for us to move on to other challenges."
Other challenges, like a campaign that might have a snowball’s chance in hell of being successful?
"Launching a presidential campaign without a big staff or even a campaign manager was no easy feat and it took everyone pitching in. We’re proud to have been part of the team of deeply dedicated staff and volunteers who nearly pulled off a historic upset in the 2018 Texas Senate race and broke records launching Beto’s campaign for the presidency," Bond added.

Also they saw his support all swing to booty-judge and abandon Señor Pendejo. Pobrecito!!

No, Men Don't Need Cuddle Parties To ‘Fix' Their Masculinity
[The Federalist] Rage against traditional masculinity has been swift and fierce over the past half decade. From the proliferation of privilege theory that casts men as the top perpetrators on the power food chain, to hashtag movements like #MeToo and "the future is female" branding, to claims of toxicity, masculinity has taken quite a beating.

Men’s rights activists and organizations are derided and laughed at, while the women and men who take up the helm are critiqued for what is perceived as their reactionary views. When men jump on board with practices that are traditionally feminine, they are lauded, applauded, and signal boosted. Enter the male-only cuddle party, the men, and the psychologists who love them.

YES, PEOPLE DO NEED TOUCH
Chick flicks, sitcoms, and jokes about post-coital practices would have us believe that cuddling is entirely the purview of women, but we know for sure that human beings need to be touched, meaning men, too. It’s a basic human need. For those in solitary confinement, or the elderly, the hunger is more pronounced, and the lack of touch debilitating. For men without partners, spouses, or sexual contact, a demographic a recent Washington Post article revealed is on the rise, this lack of human contact can contribute to feelings of isolation.

Perhaps that’s why an educator at Pennsylvania’s Lehigh University recently jumped into the fully clothed cuddle pile in support of the local Men’s Therapeutic Cuddle Group in Plymouth Meeting, Pennsylvania. Dr. Christopher Liang, who teaches a gender, race, inclusion, and trauma lab at Lehigh, believes that men’s cuddle groups can redefine masculinity. This statement is predicated on the assumption that masculinity itself is problematic, and needs redefinition.

Cuddle parties have been a mainstay of the intimacy industry for years, making waves and rolling eyes from Silicon Valley to Brooklyn. Touted by Cuddle Party as "a playful social event designed for adults to explore communication, boundaries and affection," a cuddle party is decidedly non-sexual, and rooted in the idea that human beings crave to touch and be touched. But is touch so far from the realm of masculinity that for men to engage in it is to redefine the term?

Democrats to meet in the next few weeks to discuss impeachment of Trump, key lawmaker says
[Independent] House Democrats will hold a meeting to discuss whether to pursue impeachment proceedings against Donald Trump, a key lawmaker said on Sunday.

House Intelligence Committee chairman Adam Schiff said on Fox News Sunday that the House Democratic caucus will meet in the coming weeks to discuss the matter.

"That’s going to be a very consequential decision and one that I’m going to reserve judgment on until we’ve had a chance to fully deliberate on it," Mr Schiff said.

In an appearance on ABC News’ "This Week," Mr Schiff also said that while the findings of the Mueller report are "serious and damning," he does not believe the Senate would convict Mr Trump if the House were to impeach him.

"Now, it may be that we undertake an impeachment nonetheless. I think what we are going to have to decide as a caucus is: What is the best thing for the country?" he said.

#7  IMO Dems are going to lose the House if they push the Trump impeachment. I got a feeling that voters are getting very tired of the Dem shenanigans and attempts to derail Trump by any and all means possible. They don't have the Senate so it is a circular firing squad for them. They have to ask themselves: Do they have anything that rises to the level of the following:

The offences for which a guilty officer may be impeached are, treason, bribery, and other high crimes and misdemeanors.

Get over that you don't like Trump. That is not grounds for impeachment.

At least 11 Malian soldiers killed in suspected jihadist attack
[France24] Suspected jihadists killed at least 11 soldiers in an attack Sunday in central Mali, the defence ministry said.

The military outpost at Guire was attacked at around five in the morning, the ministry said, adding that there were also a number of injuries and damage. Earlier reports had put the number of soldiers killed at 10 or 12.

"The terrorists came out of the forest. They were on motorcycles and pick-up trucks. They burnt vehicles and took away others," a security source, who asked not to be named, told AFP.

The Mali armed forces said on Twitter reinforcements were being sent to the Nara sector, about 370 kilometres (230 miles) north of the capital Bamako.

A local resident contacted by AFP said there had been heavy gunfire and the military "were taken by surprise" in the attack.

"I saw two terrorists put their motorcycles in an army vehicle and drive off with it," he said. Malian and foreign troops are regularly targeted by jihadist militia.

Suspected jihadists killed 21 Malian soldiers last month in a raid on another army camp in Dioura, central Mali.

On Saturday a UN peacekeeper was killed and four others wounded when a mine exploded as their convoy passed through a central region. The UN mission was established in Mali after radical Islamist militias seized the north of the country in 2012 before being pushed back by French troops in 2013.

A peace agreement signed in 2015 by the Bamako government and armed groups was aimed at restoring stability. But the accord has failed to stop the violence.

Kate Smith And God Bless America: Political Correctness Is Out Of Control
[Victory Girls] When will people realize that political correctness has gone too far? When will they realize that in an effort to "protect" people from bad things, our entire country is looking and acting a crop of snowflakes who just can’t deal with life and reality. The latest exhibit in this madness is the New York Yankees dumping Kate Smith singing "God Bless America" during 7th inning stretch because suddenly songs she sang way back in the day are racist.

No, I’m not kidding. Kate Smith’s 1939 recording of "God Bless America" has been played for 18 years at Yankee Stadium. For 18 years, not a single person had a problem with who was singing the song. Heck, I’m not even sure they knew WHO was singing it over the loudspeakers!

But now, everyone knows because some triggered social justice snowflake out there decided that Kate’s past history is bad, therefore the song must go!

Hopefully some of those have been replaced with US copies. The Mig-29 was a hanger queen and Germany gave them up as quick as they could after reunification as they were too much of a pain in the ass to keep flying.

Maxine Waters: Forget investigations, impeach Trump now
[Washington Examiner] Rep. Maxine Waters, D-Calif., demanded her caucus proceed straight to impeaching President Trump on Sunday, questioning the efficacy of some of her colleagues insisting they conduct investigations first.

"If the Democrats cannot decide that they're going to move with impeachment, I guess they're going to go on with these investigations. How long are they going to go on with them? What more do they need to prove?" the House Financial Services chairwoman said during an interview on MSNBC's "AM Joy."
So, like 15 people saw it...
Waters' call to action received a boost last week after the release of special counsel Robert Mueller's report when Reps. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez of New York, Ilhan Omar of Minnesota, and Ayanna Pressley of Massachusetts publicly supported Rashida Tlaib of Michigan's impeachment resolution, which she introduced in March. Other advocates, including Reps. Al Green of Texas and Brad Sherman of California, who introduced a similar impeachment measure in January, added their voices to the chorus clamoring for Trump's removal from office.

Bob Woodward: Steele dossier appeared in draft of US intel assessment on Russian meddling
[Washington Examiner] Veteran journalist Bob Woodward said Sunday he recently learned the unverified Trump dossier appeared in an early draft of a U.S. intelligence community assessment on Russian election interference.

During a discussion on "Fox News Sunday," Woodward suggested its inclusion was at the behest of the Central Intelligence Agency, but it was ultimately taken out after being reviewed by intelligence experts.

"What I found out recently, which was really quite surprising, the dossier, which really is got a lot of garbage in it and Mueller found that to be the case, early in building the intelligence community assessment on Russian interference in an early draft, they actually put the dossier on page two in kind of a breakout box," Woodward said in a panel moderated by host Chris Wallace.

"I think it was the CIA pushing this," he added. "Real intelligence experts looked at this and said no, this is not intelligence, this is garbage and they took it out. But in this process the idea that they would include something like that in one of the great stellar intelligence assessments as Mueller also found out is highly questionable. Needs to be investigated."

Libya's Interior Ministry arrests person threatening to attack ISIS-harboring Mitiga prison
[Libya Observer] The Presidential Council's Interior Ministry said it had incarcerated

...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
Special Deterrence Force (SDF) and free ISIS bully boyz and other holy warriors detained in it.

Interior Minister Fathi Bashagha told all security apparatuses that Abdelsalam Shughib had been arrested and was under interrogation at the Public Prosecutor's Office.

The ministry warned Sunday against any sabotage or vandalism at the state institutions for any personal benefits, saying any attack is a treason and a coup against the government, especially at this time as the capital is being attacked by "illegitimate gangs."

The ministry also said that the offensive on Tripoli helps create mayhem and undermines efforts to root out terrorism and organized crime, adding that it is very keen on protecting the capital and the people as well as state institutions.

"We will bring down all those who are part of terrorist groups and we will prevail security and prohibit the use of violence so that all people across Libya are safe and secure." The statement reads, saying it is ready to cooperate with all neighboring countries and friend ones to fight terrorism and cross border crime.

Days ago, the ministry said it had apprehended ISIS bully boyz who infiltrated into Tripoli to carry out terrorist attacks in Tripoli and its suburbs.

Bangladesh puts anti-sexual harassment units in schools after girl's murder
[DAWN] Bangladesh has ordered some 27,000 schools to set up committees to prevent sexual violence, an official said on Sunday, after a teenager who accused a teacher of sexual harassment was burned to death.

The killing of 19-year-old Nusrat Jahan Rafi has sparked outrage across the South Asian nation of 165 million people and put police action in the case under the spotlight.

Protesters in the capital Dhaka staged demonstrations for an 11th day on Sunday, seeking "exemplary punishment" for the killers of the girl.

Police say she was lured to the rooftop of the Islamic seminary she attended in Feni, south of the capital, where her attackers ordered her to withdraw a police complaint against the head of the school.

When she refused, she was doused in kerosene and set on fire.

Rafi died in hospital on April 10 after suffering 80 per cent burns. At least 20 people, including the head teacher, have been locked away
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
Activists say the murder has exposed a "culture of impunity" surrounding sex crimes against women and kiddies, and the fact that those who report harassment often suffer a backlash.

Serial killer Italian nurse jailed for life
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A serial killer Italian nurse was on Friday sentenced to life in prison for killing four patients although police suspect she could have been responsible for as many as 10 fatalities.

Investigators believe the patients, all seriously but not terminally ill, died as a result of being given strong doses of the anticoagulant drug Eparina by Fausta Bonino.

Bonino, 56, protested her innocence after the voluntary homicide verdict was delivered. Her lawyer said she would appeal.

Bonino was accused of administering fatal doses of the blood-thinning drug to patients in intensive care at a hospital in the town of Piombino in Tuscany between January 2014 and September 2015.

She was tossed in the clink

Man Storms German Church, Injures 24 People In Mass Panic
[Jpost] A man stormed a church in Munich on Saturday, causing injuries to at least 24 people as the parishioners fled the service.

The assailant, described as an "African" man by some media outlets, caused the mass panic and injuries. The congregants were treated for light injuries and returned to the service.

Videos posted online show the inside of the St. Paul’s Gay Pareeh church in disarray. The police jugged

According to German media reports, the police said on Sunday the man made "noisily unintelligible words that frightened the congregants who were within earshot."

While it was initially reported that the man had shouted "Allahu Akhbar" as he stormed the church, those reports have not been confirmed.

#1  It should be clear to almost every free thinking person by now that these attacks on churches around the world, including the obvious sabotage and arson at Notré Dame and the massacre in Srilanka are all IS approved and instigated work of sleeper cells and lone wolves, in retaliation for the New Zealand thing.

They just want the world to know that if any of us 'kafar' push them, they have resources to unleash carnage in return.

Sri Lanka
Day 2: Sri Lanka explosions, what we know so far: 24 arrested, 290+ dead, 8 kabooms +1 defused
Yesterday’s events can be seen here.
[The Guardian] A series of explosions has rocked Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday. Here is what we know as of Sunday 11:27pm EDT:
  • At least 290 people have been killed and 500 more injured in a series of explosions targeting churches holding Easter services and hotels in Sri Lanka.

  • Most of the dead are believed to be Sri Lankans, but officials say about 30 people from other countries have been killed. Three UK nationals and two US-UK dual nationals were among the dead. Two Turkish nationals, one Dutch, one Chinese, one Portuguese, and one Japanese have been killed, their respective foreign ministries have confirmed.

  • No one has claimed responsibility for the attacks but Sri Lanka’s defence minister, Ruwan Wijewardene, said the culprits had been identified and were religious extremists. He said suicide bombers were responsible for the majority of the morning’s bombings and that the wave of attacks was the work of a single group.

  • The prime minister, Ranil Wickremesinghe, said security services had been “aware of information” of a possible attack up to 10 days ago. “We must also look into why adequate precautions were not taken,” he told reporters on Sunday.

  • Twenty-four people have been reported to have been arrested so far.

  • The government has imposed a curfew with immediate effect. It also shut down social media and messaging services.

  • There were six initial blasts, at three hotels and three churches, before two more explosions some time later, at a guest house and housing scheme, with two people reported to have been killed at the former.

  • Harsha de Silva, a government minister, said the last two blasts appeared to have been carried out by the culprits as they fled from police.
The Guardian continues liveblogging here.

Sri Lanka bomber queued at hotel buffet then unleashed devastation

[DAWN] The jacket wallah waited patiently in a queue for the Easter Sunday breakfast buffet at Sri Lanka's Cinnamon Grand hotel before setting off explosives strapped to his back.

Carrying a plate, the man, who had registered at the hotel the night before as Mohammed Azzam Mohammed, was just about to be served when he set off his devastating strike in the packed restaurant, a manager at the Sri Lankan hotel said.

"There was utter chaos," said the manager, who spoke to AFP on condition of anonymity as he is not allowed to speak for the company.

The Taprobane restaurant at the hotel was having one of its busiest days of the year for the Easter holiday weekend.

"It was 8:30am and it was busy. It was families," the manager told AFP. "He came up to the top of the queue and set off the blast," he added. "One of our managers who was welcoming guests was among those killed instantly."

The bomber also died. Parts of his body were found intact by police and taken away.

Other hotel officials told how the bomber, a Sri Lankan, checked in giving an address that turned out to be false, saying he was in the city for business.

Two other hotels, the Shangri-La and the Kingsbury, were hit at about the same time, along with three churches packed with worshippers attending Easter Sunday services.

The blast at St Anthony's Shrine, a historic Catholic Church, was so powerful that it blew out much of the roof, leaving roof tiles, glass and splintered wood littering the floor that was strewn with bodies.

Authorities have not said who staged the attacks. But all suffered major casualties and damage. Many of the 35 foreigners killed in the blasts were at the hotels, officials said.

Thawheed Jamaat, group active in Tamil Nadu, prime suspect behind Sri Lanka blasts

[TimesofIndia] The eight serial blasts that shook Sri Lanka on Easter and reverberated around the world have drawn attention to an arc of radicalisation stretching from the Maldives to Bangladesh where Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
-inspired modules have been regularly linked to terror incidents.

Though counter-intelligence experts are cautious in the absence of an acknowledgement, topping the shortlist of suspects is Thawheed Jamaat, a hardline group with a significant presence in Tamil Nadu too.

The spectacular scale bears the IS signature and is in keeping with the desire of jihadi groups from Al Qaeda to IS, and including variants like Lashkar and Jaish, to stage attacks that serve to intimidate enemies and attract recruits.
Though suicide kaboom was virtually invented by the Liberation Tigers of Tamil Eelam decades ago, Sunday's attacks bear the hallmark of Islamist groups. The Wahhabi-aligned Sri Lanka Thawheed Jamaat (SLTJ) has found traction in the country's eastern province and has been pushing Sharia law with burqas for women and building mosques to disseminate radical messages.

The attacks, in their operationalisation, seem similar to the Holey Artisan Bakery suicide kaboom in Dhaka in 2016, which was carried out by local boys but trained by Islamic State. The spectacular scale bears the IS signature and is in keeping with the desire of jihadi groups from Al Qaeda to IS, and including variants like Lashkar and Jaish, to stage attacks that serve to intimidate enemies and attract recruits. Maldives, with the dubious distinction of having one of the highest number of IS fighters, has been a source of worry. Apart from terrorist acts, the deeper radicalisation due to IS messaging is a serious challenge to social stability.

Whether the Thawheed has made the leap into suicide kabooms is not clear and will await investigation even though the scale of the attacks might indicate that jihadi terrorism has made a major landfall in Sri Lanka. SLTJ’s activities have triggered a Buddhist backlash which has resulted in some tension between Buddhists and Moslems, including recent attacks against Buddha statues in the country.

Since the attack on Sunday was specifically directed against Christians on a holy day, the likelihood of the event being part of a bigger Islamist jihad is not ruled out.

The initial assessment is that the attack was likely to have been carried out by radicalised Lankan Moslems. But counter-terrorism specialists say it would be difficult for a local group to carry out coordinated attacks of the magnitude seen yesterday without the help of an outside terror force.

#1  The Jerusalem Post:

The alleged suicide bomber and mastermind behind the attack on the Shangri La hotel has been identified as Islamic extremist Moulvi Zahran Hashim. An Islamist extremist imam, he was a prolific lecturer for National Tawheed Jamaath.

CNN reported that Hashim also wanted to attack the Indian High Commission in Colombo earlier this month, but the attack was thwarted. According to the CNN report, that attack was planned for April 4.

#6  From The Times of Israel, as of 4:30 a.m. EDT:

The coordinated Easter Sunday bombings that ripped through Sri Lankan churches and luxury hotels were carried out by seven suicide bombers, a government investigator said Monday.

An analysis of the attackers’ body parts made clear that they were suicide bombers, said Ariyananda Welianga, a forensic crime investigator. He said most attacks were by one bomber, with two at Colombo’s Shangri-La Hotel.

The streets of Colombo were largely deserted Monday morning, with most shops closed and a heavy deployment of soldiers and police. Stunned clergy and onlookers gathered at St. Anthony’s Shrine, looking past the soldiers to the stricken church.

The Sri Lankan government lifted a curfew that had been imposed during the night. But most social media remained blocked Monday after officials said they needed to curtail the spread of false information and ease tension in the country of about 21 million people.

#7  The Times of Israel at 11:00 a.m.:

A van parked near the Sri Lankan church that was bombed on Easter Sunday exploded on Monday as police tried to defuse a fresh batch of explosives found inside the abandoned vehicle.

No injuries were reported in the blast some 50 meters from the St Anthony’s Shrine, one of three churches targeted in a string of suicide bombs on Sunday that killed nearly 300 people.

Police went to inspect the van after local residents reported it parked near St. Anthony’s for over a day.

They discovered three bombs that they tried to defuse. Instead, the bombs detonated, sending pedestrians fleeing in panic.

Also on Monday, police found 87 detonators near Colombo’s main bus depot, officials said. They declined to comment on whether they were linked to Sunday’s attacks.

Cabinet minister and government spokesman Rajitha Senaratne on Monday said Sri Lankan authorities believed a little known Islamist group, National Thowfeek Jamaath, was behind the series of suicide bombings that killed at least 290 people, including at least 27 foreigners. About 500 others were wounded in the blasts.

Senaratne said 24 people have been arrested and that authorities were hunting for links between the group and foreign backers.

“We don’t see that only a small organization in this country can do all that,” he said. “We are now investigating the international support for them, and their other links, how they produced the suicide bombers here, and how they produced bombs like this.”

Sri Lanka’s president gave the military sweeping wartime powers to arrest and detain suspects starting at midnight. In addition, a government curfew was to begin at 8 p.m.

Thousands protest in support of Moroccan activists
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Thousands of people demonstrated on Sunday in the Moroccan capital Rabat, calling for the release of dozens of activists jailed for up to 20 years over their role in a protest movement.

“The people want the release of the detainees,” demonstrators shouted as they marched behind a banner supporting activists linked to the Hirak movement.

Earlier this month a court upheld the ruling against 42 people linked to the Al-Hirak al-Shaabi – or “Popular Movement” – protests which took hold of the marginalized Rif region in October 2016.

AFP reporters saw thousands of people in the streets, some clutching photographs of those serving jail terms ranging from one to 20 years.

The sentences first handed down last June were upheld on April 6 by the Casablanca court of appeal.

Moroccan authorities insist the judicial process has followed international standards.

Jeremy Corbyn blasted after video of him mocking captured SAS troopers
[THESUN.CO.UK] JEREMY Corbyn has been blasted after a video of him mocking SAS troopers and branding British forces in Iraq "lawless" emerged.

The Labour leader’s rant came just days after the dramatic rescue of two Who Dares Wins fighters from an Iraqi jail.

They faced a grizzly execution until their brave pals broke them free from their Basra prison.

But Corbyn, then a backbench MP, told a Stop the War rally: "You couldn’t have made it up.

"British SAS officers, armed to the teeth, driving through a checkpoint, then tried to shoot their way out of it, and then they are nabbed
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
, apparently quite properly by the local police.

"And the British Army then bombards the cop shoppe in which they are held. Who are the lawless forces now?"

He also compared Allied efforts to the US occupation of Vietnam.

Veterans minister Tobias Ellwood blasted: "Under Jeremy Corbyn, Labour should never be given the responsibility of keeping our country safe."

And SAS veteran Phil Campion said: "The man needs to live a day in a trooper’s shoes before he gobs off."

The 2005 video was uncovered by journalist Iggy Ostanin, who passed it to The Sun on Sunday.

[PRESSTV] Several Saudi-sponsored militiamen loyal to Yemen's former president, Abd Rabbuh Mansur Hadi, have been killed and dozens of others sustained injuries when Yemeni army forces fired a domestically-manufactured ballistic missile at their camp in the country’s southwestern province of Dhale.
domestically-manufactured...yeah. Pull the other one
A Yemeni military source, speaking on condition of anonymity, told Yemen’s Arabic-language al-Masirah television network that Yemeni soldiers and their allies launched a short-range Zelzal-1 (Earthquake-1) missile at the Saudi mercenaries in the Qa'atabah district of the province on Sunday afternoon.

Earlier in the day, Yemeni air defense forces and their allies from Popular Committees intercepted and targeted an unmanned aerial vehicle belonging to the Saudi-led military coalition in the skies over Saudi Arabia’s southern border region of Najran.

Snow on Mt Hermon for Passover
[TimesofIsrael] Mount Hermon was hit with a freak springtime snowstorm for the first time in 22 years on Sunday, as unseasonable weather around the country dampened many Israelis’ plans to travel and hike during the Jewish festival of Passover.

Mexico breaks violence record in first quarter of 2019
[PULSE.NG] Violence in Mexico hit new heights in the first quarter of 2019, with 8,493 murders recorded from January to March, according to official figures.

According to the Executive Secretariat of the Public Security National System, that number represents a 9.6 percent rise on the same period in 2018.

Last year was considered the most violent in Mexico's history, with over 33,500 murders -- the highest number since records began in 1997.

The new record contradicts claims by leftist President Andres Manuel Lopez Obrador that murders have not increased during his presidency, which began in December.

At a Navy event Sunday, Lopez Obrador defended the creation of a National Guard, his key strategy to fight the wave of violence that has engulfed Mexico since the government declared war on the country's powerful narco mobs in 2006.

"What concerns us the most is guaranteeing public safety," he said. "That is why a reform of the constitution was proposed so that the army and the navy can help us."

The National Guard is due to take over policing duties given to the military.

Mexico has recorded nearly 250,000 murders since deploying the army, including last year's record as the newly fragmented cartels battle the military and each other, with widespread collateral damage.

Lopez Obrador was a long-time critic of the deployment and vowed to end it, but since he assumed office it has continued.

"This fake government does not have the ability and skill to govern a city, how can it run the entire country?" the JUI-F chief asked while talking to the media after a meeting of the party’s central executive council.

He said that the reshuffle in the cabinet and expulsion of ministers proved that the government was given a fake mandate and that it did not enjoy the support of the masses. He said the country’s economy was already on the verge of collapse and now the country was facing a worse political crisis.

"Prime Minister Imran Khan’s only way out is to resign and conduct fresh elections," he said, adding that an impression was created that ministers could not deliver, therefore, their portfolios had been changed. He said by giving the interior ministry to Ijaz Shah after holding the portfolio for eight months Mr Khan had admitted his failure.

"Kick out PKK parties!" chanted an angry crowd that mobbed Kemal Kilicdaroglu, head of the Republican People’s Party (CHP), in video captured by DHA.

Security personnel got Kilicdaroglu out of the mob and police escorted him to a safe house. Ottoman Turkish media reported people were seen throwing stones at the house. There are no reports he was injured in the incident.

Sezai Temeli and Pervin Buldan, co-chairs of the pro-Kurdish People’s Democratic Party (HDP), condemned the attack, accusing the ruling AKP-MHP coalition of "polarizing society and creating tensions".

"We believe that democratic politics will overcome the problems created by the current environment," they said in a joint statement.

1) Pledges are easy, paying is hard.
2) Better your money than ours, for the duration while y’all still have some. In the meantime, we’ll continue reducing our costs per barrel while producing more barrels, looking forward to the day when you look back at your foolishness in throwing away limited assets on a cause such as this.

addressed the vaporous Arab League in Cairo on Sunday as part of a diplomatic effort to rebuff the Trump administration’s Middle East peace plan, which American officials indicate could be released this summer.

Abbas says, "the Arabs need to be engaging actively at this critical time."

Abbas says the Paleostinians reject the deal and demand Israel fully withdraw from all occupied territories.

Israel captured the West Bank, Gazoo Strip, and east Jerusalem in the 1967 Mideast war. The Paleostinians seek those territories for a future state.

Besides Hafter and his LNA, La Belle France was singled out for criticism as many demonstrators wore yellow vests to mimic the anti Emmanuel Macron Gay Paree demonstrators.

The war losses continued, meanwhile, as the World Health Organization reported 227 deaths and 1,128 maimed.

While Britannia and Italia continued to seek an end to the fighting and a return to dialogue, LNA Spokesperson, Ahmed Mesmari "welcomed the international political support for the LNA".

The welcome comes after the revelation by the Whitehouse on Friday that Donald Trump

A White House statement said that in the phone call on Monday, Trump "recognized Field Marshal Haftar’s significant role in fighting terrorism and securing Libya’s oil resources, and the two discussed a shared vision for Libya’s transition to a stable, democratic political system".

(ISIS) fighters captured by the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and were sentenced to death by an Iraqi court on Sunday. Iraq is preparing cases against nearly 900 suspected jihadists.

"The main commission in the Karkh Criminal Court looked into the case of four convicts for belonging to ISIS terrorist gangs who carried criminal acts that targeted innocent civilians with the aim of destabilizing the security and stability inside Iraq and Syria," read a statement from Iraq’s Supreme Judicial Council, using the Arabic acronym for ISIS.

They were charged under Iraq’s Anti-Terrorism Law (No. 13 of 2005) and sentenced to death by hanging.

These are the first individuals captured in Syria to be sentenced by Iraq’s justice system.

It follows an earlier death sentence handed down on Thursday by a federal court in Baghdad of an ISIS fighter found guilty of joining the group’s sniper battalion.

Human rights organizations including Amnesia Amnesty International and Human Rights Watch have condemned Iraq’s fast-track courts, claiming they fail to exercise due process and extract forced confessions.

Iraq is among the world’s top five executioners, according to a recent Amnesty report.
But they have so many truly evil people to dispose of after years of ISIS atrocities that efficiency is the only alternative to criminally overcrowded jail cells.

Fatah Official: Arab States Pressuring Us To Accept ‘Deal Of The Century’
[Jpost] A senior Fatah official has said that some Arab states have been exerting "immense pressure" on the Paleostinians to accept Trump’s peace plan, also known as the "deal of the century."

The unnamed official told al-Khaleej Online news that Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
was spearheading the campaign of pressure to force the Paleostinians to positively respond to Trump’s upcoming plan.

"Some Arab countries, especially Saudi Arabia, Egypt and the United Arab Emirates, are very interested in the deal of the century," the official claimed. "They are using all means, including political and financial blackmail, to force the Paleostinians to accept the deal of the century despite all the dangers it poses to the Paleostinian cause."

The Paleostinian leadership, the official said, will not submit to any Arab, American or even Israeli pressure to accept the deal.

Meanwhile,
...back at the argument, Livia had made her point with her knee to Jane's stomach...
Paleostinian Authority President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
said on Sunday that the US administration has nothing to offer the Paleostinians after all the decisions it has taken since December 2017, including recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, the transfer of the US Embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem, and the suspension of US financial aid to the Paleostinians.

Abbas further criticized Israel for deducting millions of shekels from tax and tariff revenues it collects on behalf of the Paleostinians in response to payments made by the PA to families of security prisoners and Paleostinians killed during attacks on Israelis.

Abbas said Israel rejected his offer to sit with the Paleostinians and Americans to resolve the dispute over the payments. "We have been paying salaries to the families of prisoners, deaders and maimed Paleostinians since 1965," he said. "It is our duty to care for their families."

Abbas told the Arab foreign ministers that he came to consult with them about the Paleostinians’ planned measures to counter Israeli and American policies. "The Paleostinian cause is not the cause of the Paleostinian people alone, but the cause of the Arabs and Moslems," he said. "We are facing difficult and impossible circumstances. We came to listen to you and see what are the views you could give us so we can take the appropriate decision at the appropriate time, especially as we are about to convene our Paleostinian Central Council in mid-May to take appropriate, decisive and final decisions."

Earlier, Abbas held talks in Cairo with Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi and discussed the latest developments in the Paleostinian arena, particularly in the aftermath of Israel’s decision to deduct Paleostinian tax and tariff revenues.•

...King of Bahrain (since 14 February 2002), having previously been its emir (from 6 March 1999). He is a Sunni, while the rest of Bahrain is predominantly Shiite...
bin Isa al-Khalifa has ordered that the citizenship of 551 Bahrainis be reinstated, after their nationality had been revoked by courts on terror cases, the kingdom’s state news agency said on Sunday.

"The royal order is in line with the provisions of Article 24 bis of Law 58/2006 with respect to the Protection of the Community against Terrorist Acts stipulating that rulings related to citizenship withdrawal will not be effective unless they are approved by HM the King," a statement on Bahrain News Agency (BNA) read.

The Bahraini King has asked the relevant authorities to evaluate the cases before a final court decision is implemented.

"The study and evaluation of the situation of convicts should be based on criteria pertaining to the seriousness, impact, and consequences of the crimes, as well as on the danger the convict may pose on national security," according to BNA’s statement. The King also "requested the Interior Minister to study the citizenship revocation rulings, and to prepare a list of reinstatement beneficiaries."

Sudan protest leaders suspend talks with army rulers
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Protest leaders on Sunday said they suspended talks with Sudan’s military council as they urged people to intensify their protest outside army headquarters in Khartoum and in other towns.

"We will continue the sit-in and we are suspending our talks with the military council," a front man of the protest movement Mohammed al-Amin announced in front of thousands of protesters gathered outside the army complex.

"We are treating the military council as an extension of the regime," he said.

Amin also called on demonstrators to step up their protests until their demand for a transfer of power to a civilian council is met by the military.

"We call for escalating and continuing the demonstrations until the demands are met," he said.

A sea of protesters had been rallying outside the army headquarters, awaiting the unveiling of a civilian body to replace the military council that was put in place following the ouster of president Omar al-Bashir
Head of the National Congress Party. He came to power in 1989 when he, as a brigadier in the Sudanese army, led a group of officers in a bloodless military coup that ousted the government of Prime Minister Sadiq al-Mahdi and eventually appointed himself president-for-life. He has fallen out with his Islamic mentor, Hasan al-Turabi, tried to impose shariah on the Christian and animist south, resulting in its secessesion, and attempted to Arabize Darfur by unleashing the barbaric Janjaweed on it. Sudan's potential prosperity has been pissed away in warfare that has left as many as 400,000 people dead and 2.5 million displaced. Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
earlier this month.

The military rulers have resisted calls to transfer power immediately to a civilian body, but earlier on Sunday new army ruler General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan insisted he was committed to handing power to the people and also pledged to respond to demonstrators’ demands within a week.

New Istanbul mayor rallies supporters for 'new beginning'
[PULSE.NG] Ekrem Imamoglu, 49, of the opposition Republican People's Party (CHP), narrowly edged out his rival to capture Istanbul mayor's office in a stinging setback to Erdogan's ruling AKP after a decade and a half in power.

The Justice and Development Party (AKP) is still seeking a rerun of the March 31 Istanbul ballot, but electoral authorities last week handed Imamoglu his mandate after he won a slim 13,000-vote lead over AKP's Binali Yildirim.

's founder Mustafa Kemal Ataturk, thousands of Imamoglu supporters packed the vast Maltepe shoreside area on the Asian side of Istanbul for the rally.

Imamoglu, a soft-spoken former district mayor who struck a conciliatory tone throughout the heated race, has vowed to serve all citizens of the 16-million strong city, regardless of their political inclinations.

"I will work, produce solutions and achieve results. This is my promise to each and every one of the 16 million Istanbul people," he told the rally.

"Nobody will be discriminated against."

Imamoglu vowed an "accountable and transparent municipality," saying: "We will not waste a single penny."

Imamoglu, who will govern the city for the next five years, said the Maltepe rally was not a political gathering, but a way to introduce the city's new administration to the people of Istanbul.

"He is a man who can easily talk with people and never turns his back on them. He is a man of the people," said Refika, a 70-year-old woman who joined the rally.

An inhumane justice system
[DAWN] Pakistain’s criminal justice system reeks of dysfunction at every stage.
Yes.
Planted evidence, custodial torture, forced confessions, false testimony, endless adjournments ‐ these are only some of the problems it is riddled with. And yet, or perhaps it is further evidence of its being cruel in the extreme, there are 27 capital crimes on the statute books. Litigants without resources are of course the most affected: they cannot afford to bribe their way out of the legal quagmire, and their fate is often in the hands of overburdened state-appointed counsel. However,
Caliphornia hasn't yet slid into the ocean, no matter how hard it's tried...
as one can see from the above study, and umpteenth others, trial courts have few qualms about not only convicting the accused on flimsy evidence but also sending them to death row. It is almost as though the state revels in its power to take the life of its citizens. Even a reprieve sometimes comes too late: in 2016, the Supreme Court acquitted two brothers of murder, only for it to be discovered they had been executed the year before. Military courts, set up in the wake of the APS attack ‐ and thankfully not given a second extension ‐ sentenced at least 310 people to death and executed around 60 through an unprecedentedly opaque modus operandi.

True justice is based on a respect for human rights
...not to be confused with individual rights, mind you...
, the acknowledgement that every individual has a legitimate expectation to be judged for his actions fairly and transparently. The socioeconomic status of litigants must not determine their chances of having their liberty, let alone their life, snatched away. Most nations, except for some of the most retrogressive ones, have abolished the death penalty
. We must do the same, and do so without delay. The collective conscience of this nation must refuse to accept any more state-sanctioned murder in its name.
If only that nation had a collective conscience, though some members are keenly aware of the lack.

Sudan junta ruler ‘committed to handing power to civilians’
[PRESSTV] Sudan’s military ruler General Abdel Fattah al-Burhan says the transitional military council he heads is committed to transferring power to a civilian body, as a deadline set by protesters for the formation of a civilian council arrives.

On Sunday, Burhan, who assumed power on April 12, said "the council is committed to giving power to people." He said the council would respond to the popular demand for the formation of a civilian government within a week.

He also confirmed that former president Omar al-Bashir
Omar has been indicted for genocide by the International Criminal Court but nothing is expected to come of it.
and bigwigs from his circle had been jugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
After some four months of anti-government protests, long-time leader Bashir was ousted by the military on April 11.

However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
the military council, which was first led by Lieutenant General Ahmed Awad bin Auf for only several hours, has resisted calls from protesters to quickly make way for the establishment of a civilian council.

Protest leaders say the civilian council would form a transitional government to rule the African country for a four-year term, followed by elections.

US main stream media taken over by CIA, Mossad: Analyst
[PRESSTV] The mainstream media in the United States are highly influenced by spy agencies, such as the Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and the Israeli Mossad, an American academic and analyst says, noting that Google's recent move in blocking Press TV's accounts was part of the American government’s pressure campaign against Tehran.

James Henry Fetzer, a retired professor of philosophy at the University of Wisconsin in Madison, made the remarks in a recent interview with Press TV after Google blocked the English-language news network's access to its official accounts on YouTube and Gmail.

Condemning the ban as a "completely inappropriate" measure taken by the administration of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
, Fetzer said, "Unfortunately, the mainstream media here in the US seem for long taken over by the CIA and its allies and [Israel's spy agency] Mossad."

The scholar noted that the Trump administration has been pressuring Iran under the influence of the American Israel Public Relations Committee (AIPAC).

"I have no doubt that Press TV has suffered a tremendous amount of interference," he said. "I've been extremely concerned that the Trump administration has taken an extremely negative attitude towards Iran."

Following his decision in May 2018 to withdraw from the 2015 Iran nuclear deal, Trump has reimposed a series of economic sanctions against Tehran while also designating the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) as a terrorist organization.

Regarding the Holocaust, Fetzer has written: "My research on the Holocaust narrative suggests that it is not only untrue but probably false and not remotely scientifically sustainable."

Science & Technology
Incident on SpaceX pad could delay its first manned flight
[PRESSTV] A mysterious but apparently serious incident occurred Saturday in Cape Canaveral, Florida involving the SpaceX capsule intended to carry American astronauts into space late this year, the private company and NASA announced.

"Earlier today, SpaceX conducted a series of engine tests on a Crew Dragon test vehicle on our test stand at Landing Zone 1 in Cape Canaveral, Florida," a SpaceX front man said in a statement. "The initial tests completed successfully but the final test resulted in an anomaly on the test stand."

A photo on the Florida Today website showed large amounts of smoke pouring out of the test site, and there was speculation about a possible kaboom, but neither SpaceX nor NASA would provide any immediate detail.

NASA administrator Jim Bridenstine referred on Twitter only to an "anomaly."

"This is why we test," he added. "We will learn, make the necessary adjustments and safely move forward."

Crew Dragon undertook a successful test flight in March, sending an unmanned capsule to dock for five days with the International Space Station before returning to Earth.

NASA called the flight "a major milestone," and it raised hopes that the Crew Dragon's first manned flight could take place before year's end.

The capsule is equipped with eight rocket engines (named SuperDraco) that can provide an emergency backup system: for example, if the launch vehicle encounters a problem, SuperDraco allows the capsule to quickly detach and return the astronauts safely to Earth.

NASA is counting on SpaceX's capsule, as well as Boeing's Starliner, to ferry astronauts to and from the ISS, a task handled since 2011 by Russia.

SpaceX was founded in 2002 by Elon Musk to help reduce space transportation costs -- and with an ultimate goal of helping colonize Mars.

Four killed in failed attack on Saudi state security building
[REUTERS] Four alleged Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Death Eaters were killed on Sunday when authorities thwarted an attack on a state security building in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
’s central Riyadh province, authorities told state media.

The four had helped carry out the attack at the Mabaheth (domestic intelligence) station in Zulfi, a small city about 250 kms (155 miles) northwest of the capital Riyadh, a front man for Saudi state security said.

Three security force members were maimed in the attack, the front man said, adding that security services were dealing with "kabooms" and other items left behind during the incident.

Online videos, which Rooters could not immediately verify, showed a car at a checkpoint with its doors open and two bloody corpses splayed on the ground nearby. Gunshots could be heard.

Saudi-owned Al Arabiya television said the attackers had been carrying machine guns, bombs and Molotov cocktails.

Islamic State’s official news agency Amaq grabbed credit for the attack in a video later on Sunday in which four masked assailants pledged allegiance to Islamic State leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
Rooters could not independently verify the claim and authorities did not officially identify the assailants.

Libya's PC denies negotiations with Haftar's forces
[Libya Observer] The front man for the Presidential Council's government Muhannad Younis denied Saturday any negotiations with Abdelrazik al-Nathori or any other figures from Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
's forces.

The front man reaffirmed that the Libyan Army forces under Presidential Council's command are continuing to foil the attack of Haftar's forces on Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
The statement denied news circulated on social media about negotiations between Libyan Army forces and Haftar's forces Chief of Staff al-Nathori about a ceasefire in Tripoli.

In the meantime, the Head of Presidential Council Fayez al-Sarraj called for a UN Security Council fact-finding mission in Tripoli to document violations by Haftar's attacking forces, including supplying Haftar's forces with weapons.

"Haftar's forces have killed civilians and displaced many others of them, using underaged boys in the war on Tripoli and using Arclight airstrikes and artillery shelling on residential areas and Mitiga Airport, let alone targeting schools and field hospitals." al-Sarraj remarked, hailing the countries who called for the halt of the offensive on Tripoli.

Al-Sarraj accused Haftar's forces of using foreign aircraft to strike Tripoli, based on Ahmed al-Mismari's statement on last Thursday, when he said "friend aircraft" had helped them in airstrikes.

"This call is a test for the international community and its credibility as to whether or not it wishes to find the facts behind what's going on in Tripoli." al-Sarraj added.

He said Libya will never sit idly by and wait for the conflicts in the world and the region to characterize its future, adding that his government will defeat the offensive against Tripoli.

Afghanistan
ISIS claims deadly attack on Afghan ministry
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] ISIS on Sunday grabbed credit for an attack that killed 10 people and trapped around 2,000 for hours inside the communications ministry in the Afghan capital the previous day.

Four ISIS turbans detonated explosives near the ministry, then entered and "battled Afghan cops with machine guns and hand grenades for numerous hours", the group said in a statement on its social media channels.

The attack in central Kabul killed seven civilians and three members of the security forces, the interior ministry said on Sunday, in a new toll after three people died of their wounds.

AFP journalists heard one big blast around 11:40 am, followed by sporadic gunfire for hours afterward.

By about 5:00 pm, the interior ministry declared the assault over.

"All jacket wallahs killed & more than 2000 civilian staff rescued," it said on Twitter.

General Sayed Mohammad Roshan Dil, the Kabul police chief, said the four attackers had been wearing police uniforms.

Panicked workers inside the 18-story building, believed to be Kabul’s tallest, scrambled up to the top floor as the fighting raged below.

One woman said she had been in a group of about 30 people on the 10th floor when the assault started, then was told to move up to the 18th floor as gunfire increased. They were all eventually rescued by commandos.

Aside from a grenade attack on a military vehicle last week and persistent crime, Kabul has in recent weeks enjoyed a period of relative calm.

Last year however saw a string of attacks including one where a massive bomb concealed in an ambulance killed more than 100 people.
Khaama Press has a photo of what are presumably the four formerly living Lions of Islam, all trying to look fierce with a single finger sticking up to show what they found in their noses before wrapping varicolored burnooses around their faces.

Israel bans entry of Gazan Christians to West Bank for Easter
[PRESSTV] Israel has refused to issue travel permits for members of the small Christian community living in the Gaza Strip to visit East Jerusalem al-Quds and the West Bank for Easter celebrations.

Israeli authorities denied travel permits for hundreds of those Palestinian Christians hoping to visit the Church of Nativity in Bethlehem City and the Church of the Holy Sepulcher in East Jerusalem al-Quds, the Palestinian Ma’an news agency reported on Sunday.

Prominent Christians in Gaza had said on Saturday that no permits had been issued until then.

George Anton, a prominent Catholic Gaza activist, said Catholics in Gaza were “upset” and “disappointed” at not having received permits.

“We don’t see any reason to refuse our permits,” The Guardian quoted Anton as saying.

The Israeli military last week announced it would let only 200 Christians aged 55 and older for Easter — which is celebrated by Catholics on Sunday and Orthodox Christians the following week — to travel to Jordan without stopping in Jerusalem al-Quds.

The Tel Aviv regime’s decision sparked protests, including by the Israeli human rights group Gisha, which called it “a further violation of Palestinians’ fundamental rights to freedom of movement, religious freedom and family life.”

In the past, many — though not all — members of Gaza’s 1,100-strong Christian minority had sometimes been granted exit permits to Jerusalem al-Quds and the West Bank for worship and to visit relatives at Easter and Christmas.
