Hamas denies involvement in rocket attack on Tel Aviv
[PRESSTV] The Paleostinian resistance movement Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, has rejected Israel's claim that it launched a rocket which hit a house north of Tel Aviv and maimed seven settlers.

"No one from the resistance movements, including Hamas, has an interest in firing rockets from the Gazoo Strip towards the enemy," a Hamas official, who asked not to be named, told AFP on Monday.

He added that the same message had been conveyed to Egypt, which intervened to broker a ceasefire and prevent Israel from launching another war on Gazoo after tensions escalated last year.

His remarks evoked the possibility that the rocket strike may have been caused by "bad weather."

Earlier on Monday, Israeli authorities said a long-range rocket launched from the Gazoo Strip had struck Mishmeret, a settlement north of Tel Aviv, wounding seven settlers.

Israel's military said the rocket was fired by Hamas from the Rafah area in the south of Gazoo.

The incident had forced Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to cut short his trip to Washington as he pledged to "respond with force" to the rocket attack.

#3  Debka thinks it is serious. Their headline:

IDF launches large-scale counter-terror operation in Gaza

The operation began on March 25 with multiple air strikes at around 17:40.

Terrorist leaders and commanders had already disappeared into underground bunkers in the Gaza Strip in anticipation of a large-scale IDF operation following a rocket attack on central Israel and a spiraling series of terrorist assaults on Israel civilian and military targets. A short time earlier, the IDF stated: Explosions will soon be heard as part of IDF offensive action. Extra vigilance is advised in line with directives.” The heads of local towns and districts in the South reacted by ordering their populations to open shelters, close schools and call off outside activity. Throughout the day, the IDF built up its strength along the Gaza border fence and mobilized reserves, while consolidating the Iron Dome ring of anti-rocket batteries ready to intercept Palestinian rocket fire at population centers including the Tel Aviv region.

The rail service between the southern town of Ashkelon and Sderot, just outside the Gaza Strip, has been suspended and car traffic thinning out on the roads.

Sources inside the Gaza Strip are describing preparations for a broad confrontation between the Hamas, Islamic Jihad and other Palestinian terrorist groups and the Israeli military. Their bases and command centers have been evacuated and equipment removed. Hamas and Jihad have gone to ground in their large network of underground bunkers. Their rocket arrays are on war preparation.

The rocket attack on Moshav Mishmeret, a town 20km northeast of Tel Aviv, was traced to a Hamas pad near Rafah in southern Gaza, and identified as a home-made weapon with a range of 120km. It wrecked a home and injured seven people, three of them children, and inflicted more serious injuries on a woman of 60. They got off with relatively light injuries due to having reach the fortified room in their house in the nick of time before it took a direct hit.

The IDF’s last major counter-terror assault on the Gaza Strip was Operation Protective Edge on July 8, 2014. On July 17, Israeli ground troops entered the Palestinian enclave.

China-Japan-Koreas
China Warns the U.S. After Navy Sails Through Taiwan Strait
[Bloomberg] China protested the latest transit through the Taiwan Strait by American warships, warning the U.S. not to undermine relations between the two countries.

"China has been closely monitoring from start to end the passage by the U.S. warships through the Taiwan Strait," Chinese Foreign Ministry spokesman Geng Shuang told a regular news briefing in Beijing on Monday. "China has lodged stern representations with the U.S."

Two U.S. vessels entered Taiwanese waters off the island’s southwest coast heading north on Sunday, Taiwan’s Ministry of National Defense said in a statement Monday. The Wall Street Journal, which first reported the patrol, identified the vessels as the Navy destroyer USS Curtis Wilbur and the Coast Guard cutter Bertholf.

The patrol comes days before a scheduled visit to Beijing by U.S. Treasury Secretary Steven Mnuchin and Trade Representative Robert Lighthizer, as talks on a trade agreement continue between the world’s two largest economies. Chinese Vice Premier Liu He is set to lead a delegation to Washington starting on April 3.

The U.S. has over the past year increased its naval transits through the 180-kilometer (110 mile) wide strait that separates Taiwan from the Chinese mainland. Sail-bys in January and February also drew protests from China, which considers the island a province.

On Monday, China urged the U.S. to avoid undermining ties between the world’s two biggest economies and support peace and stability in the strait, Geng said.

Che Guevara and the M2 Carbine: The Gory Death of a Paradox
[Guns America Digest] Depending upon your political leanings, Ernesto "Che" Guevara was a hero, saint, murderer, or monster. Guevara was one of the most polarizing people in all of human history. His life, death, and legacy still spark controversy more than half a century after his execution.

The eldest of five children, Guevara was born in Rosario, Argentina, in 1928. As a child, Guevara suffered from crippling asthma yet still managed to excel as an athlete. He competed in rugby, golf, shooting, and cycling and was an accomplished chess player.

His childhood home contained more than 3,000 books and Guevara read widely. He was known to quote both Kipling and Jose Hernandez extensively. Eclectic authors such as Aristotle, Freud, Faulkner, Bertrand Russell, Sartre, Verne, Kafka, Camus, and Jack London occupied his mind during his formative years.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Lebanese-Canadian Arrested for Spying for Israel
[Jerusalem Post] Lebanon said the 40-year old suspect tried to recruit others to spy on Hezbollah and obtain information on missing Israeli pilot Ron Arad.

A Lebanese-Canadian dual national was arrested in Beirut on suspicion of spying for Israeli intelligence, Lebanese authorities said.

"Within the frame of its fight against espionage for the Israeli enemy entity and the dismantlement of its rings inside Lebanon, the General Directorate of the General Security has arrested Lebanese-Canadian F.G., born 1978, upon the notice of the military prosecution," Lebanon’s General Security intelligence agency said in a statement.

While there were no details on when or where the suspect was detained, according to Lebanese media reports, he confessed during interrogation that he was recruited in 2013 by a Lebanese fugitive who belong to an Israeli army intelligence network called "Unit 504."

He confessed to spending six years spying on Hezbollah, trying to gather intelligence on Hezbollah operatives. He was also attempting to gather information on Israeli pilot Ron Arad, who has been missing since 1986 when his plane was shot down over southern Lebanon and was supposedly handed to the terror group.

"F.G." had also been told to recruit other Lebanese citizens to infiltrate into Hezbollah.

Caliphate's end: British soldier takes out 30 jihadists with grenade launcher
[World Tribune] A British SAS soldier killed at least 30 Islamic State (ISIS) jihadists with his grenade launcher during the battle which ultimately marked the end of the terror organization’s "caliphate" in Syria.

The SAS’s D Squadron was working alongside U.S.-backed Kurdish fighters who had forced the terrorists into a small pocket inside the town of Baghouz. The SAS teams were moving around the outskirts of the town when they came under fire from ISIS jihadists located inside a former bank.

A source told the Daily Star Sunday that "After the SAS and Kurdish fighters came under attack, one SAS trooper opened fire with the grenade launcher to allow other members of the patrol to get into cover."

At least six grenades were fired directly into the building.

"When Kurdish troops returned a few days later they discovered at least 30 bodies inside the shattered building ‐ all were ISIS fighters and most had died from shrapnel wounds from the grenades fired into the building," the source said.

One member of the SAS was slightly injured by a bullet ricocheting off the ground before the soldier blasted the building with a grenade machine gun (GMG).

The GMG, a favorite weapon of the SAS, has a range of around 2,000 meters and can fire 350 high explosive rounds per minute.

The U.S.-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that it liberated Baghouz on March 23. It was the last stronghold in ISIS’s so-called "caliphate" that once ruled over 8 million people in Iraq and Syria.

"On this unique day we commemorate thousands of martyrs whose efforts made the victory possible," SDF spokesman Mustafa Bali tweeted.

"Three days ago we clutched our weapons, trying to break forward even a few meters," an SDF fighter called Rami told AFP. "But now we’ve finished with ISIS and its black banner and we’ve hoisted our own instead."

Pub that hosted Cromwell's soldiers at centre of row over 'trendy' bar plan
[Telegraph] A Yorkshire pub rumoured to have hosted Oliver Cromwell's soldiers the night before a famous 17th-century battle is at the centre of a new fight over plans to turn it into a "trendy wine bar".

Conservationists claim plans for a major refurbishment of the 600-year-old Black Bull in the West Yorkshire market town of Otley are "corporate vandalism" and will destroy its historic character.

The Grade II-listed watering hole, with its low oak beams, flagstone floor and log fire, is one of the oldest in the country and featured in the Hairy Bikers' Pubs that Built Britain series. The Kay Mellor TV drama The Chase was filmed there in 2006.

It is also close to the site of the Battle of Marston Moor where, during the English Civil War in 1644, the Royalist army of Charles I was effectively destroyed as a fighting force by the Parliamentarians' New Model Army.

The evening battle only lasted around two hours but in that short time around 4,000 men were killed and 1,500 taken prisoner. The victory boosted the reputation of Cromwell, who commanded the cavalry under Sir Thomas Fairfax.

Science & Technology
DARPA Seeks Tools to Capture Underground Worlds in 3D
[DARPA] DARPA is seeking information on state-of-the-art technologies and methodologies for advanced mapping and surveying in support of the agency’s Subterranean (SubT) Challenge. Georeferenced data ‐ geographic coordinates tied to a map or image ‐ could significantly improve the speed and accuracy of warfighters in time-sensitive active combat operations and disaster-related missions in the subterranean domain. Today, the majority of the underground environments are uncharted or inadequately mapped, including human-made tunnels, underground infrastructure, and natural cave networks.

Through the Request for Information, DARPA is looking for innovative technologies to collect highly accurate and reproducible ground-truth data for subterranean environments, which would potentially disrupt and positively leverage the subterranean domain without prohibitive cost and with less risk to human lives. These innovative technologies will allow for exploring and exploiting these dark and dirty environments that are too dangerous to deploy humans.

"What makes subterranean areas challenging for precision mapping and surveying ‐ such as lack of GPS, constrained passages, dark or dust-filled air ‐ is similar to what inhibits safe and speedy underground operations for our warfighters," said Timothy Chung, program manager in DARPA’s Tactical Technology Office (TTO). "Building an accurate three-dimensional picture is a key enabler to rapidly and remotely exploring and searching subterranean spaces."

DARPA is looking for commercial products, software, and services available to enable high-fidelity, 3D mapping and surveying of underground environments. Of interest are available technologies that offer high accuracy and high resolution, with the ability to provide precise and reproducible survey points without reliance on substantial infrastructure (e.g., access to global fixes underground). Additionally, relevant software should also allow for generated data products to be easily manipulated, annotated, and rendered into 3D mesh objects for importing into simulation and game engine environments.

DARPA may select proposers to demonstrate their technologies or methods to determine feasibility of capabilities for potential use in the SubT Challenge in generating and sharing 3D datasets of underground environments.

Such accurately georeferenced data may aid in scoring the SubT competitors’ performance in identifying and reporting the location of artifacts placed within the course. In addition, renderings from these data may provide DARPA with additional visualization assets to showcase competition activities in real-time and/or post-production.

David Gergen advises Trump to follow Churchill: ‘In victory, magnanimity'
[Washington Examiner] CNN commentator David Gergen, a White House adviser to four former presidents, shared some advice with President Trump on Sunday after Attorney General William Barr released a summary of findings from the Russia investigation.
CNN commentator David Gergen - The Talking Thumb™
Despite special counsel Robert Mueller finding no evidence of collusion between the president's campaign and Russia, Gergen said Trump should take the news in stride and heed the words of former British Prime Minister Winston Churchill.

"It's totally understandable as everyone is saying that they, the Trump people, are celebrating. I understand that. But when the president calls it an illegal takedown, an illegal takedown, that's a vindictive view," Gergen said. "He’d be well advised to remember Churchill, who said ’In victory, magnanimity.’"

#2  A good point, Mike. But victory requires the other side to formally surrender. After WWII there were the Nuremberg and Tokyo trials, which included long prison sentences for some and death sentences for the most guilty. And of course the Allied armies are still there, now because the key bases are so convenient and we’ve become such good friends. The magnaminity was for the defeated countries, absolutely not their leadership.

And this is the White House advisor to four former presidents, the very best our nation’s elite has to offer?! Wow.

Harry Reid rips James Comey for doing 'nothing' about Russian election meddling
[Washington Examiner] Former Senate Majority Leader Harry Reid condemned former FBI Director James Comey in a weekend interview, saying he didn’t do enough to curtail Russian meddling in the 2016 election.

Reid, a Democrat from Nevada, told radio host John Catsimatidis of 970 AM in New York that he sent a letter to Comey before the election urging him to look into Russia and reports that it was meddling in the election.

"I wrote a letter in August [2016] to the Director of the FBI Comey and said Russia is messing with our elections and you need to do something about that. And by October he had done nothing," Reid said. "We now know he should have done something."

Reid said Comey didn’t get involved because he thought President Trump’s Democratic opponent, Hillary Clinton, was going to win. Reid has been a sharp critic of Comey since before the 2016 election and blamed the former FBI director for Clinton’s defeat. Comey was fired by Trump in 2017.

"Now the hindsight from his troops are that he didn’t do it because he thought Hillary would win the election. He therefore thought it would be too political for him to get involved," Reid said.

Special counsel Robert Mueller submitted his final report on election meddling to Attorney General William Barr on Friday. Mueller was appointed within days of Comey’s firing, and Comey later told Congress he leaked memos between he and Trump to try to spur the creation a special counsel investigation.

German billionaire family to donate $11M over Nazi past
[DW] A report found that the Reimann family, owners of Krispy Kreme and Dr. Pepper, were avowed Nazis and used forced laborers in their factories during World War II. "These crimes are disgusting," a family spokesman said.

One of Germany's richest families has said they will donate $11 million (€11.3 million) to charity after learning the extent of their family's ties to the Nazi regime, according to a report by the mass-circulation Bild am Sonntag newspaper.

The Reimann family's JAB Holding Company owns a controlling interest in several major brands, including Panera Bread and Krispy Kreme Doughnuts among others.

Charleston man who dons pharaoh garb gets DNA results linking him to Ramesses III
[Charleston Post & Courier] Robert Ross retired as a management analyst with the U.S. General Accounting Office in Chicago, moved back to Charleston and currently works as a sexton at Morris Street Baptist Church.
Sez right here....
But most people probably recognize him for the distinctive black-and-gold Pharaoh headdress he often wears around town to express his passion for ancient Egypt.

In other words, he’s been wearing it long before a 23andMe letter arrived in January analyzing his DNA ‐ a letter that would move him to tears and confirm his many years of work.

"You share an ancient paternal lineage with Pharaoh Ramesses III," it read. "You and Ramesses III share an ancient paternal-line ancestor who probably lived in north Africa or western Asia."

Ross was ecstatic.

"When I first read it, I was so happy, and I was just so glad," he said. "Then I thought, ’No wonder I’m re-enacting and doing certain things that’s sort of unexplainable. It’s all part of the gene!’"

Home Front: Culture Wars
The Rolling Genocide of America's Blacks
[American Thinker] When is a genocide not a genocide? When it is a "rolling genocide." When it is an ongoing but never finished extermination of a people targeted for destruction. When it rolls on, generation after generation. When it is too profitable to bring to an end.

In ancient times, most cultures offered sacrifices to appease or honor their gods. Throughout the Old Testament, the term "burnt offering" referred to the Jewish ritual burning of crops ("firstfruits") and the sacrifice of animals ("firstborn") as an offering to God. In older translations of Scripture, the word for burnt offering was "holocaust." Contrary to common belief, the word did not originate with Hitler's "Final Solution" during World War II.

CHILD SACRIFICE FORBIDDEN BY GOD
Throughout the pre-Christian world, most cultures, Hebrew and pagan alike, included their own children in their sacrificial offerings. However, the God of the Hebrews ordered an end to this inhuman practice.
That was Abraham’s would-be sacrifice of Isaac, before the Hebrews counted any more than Abraham’s immediate family and servants. But do go on.
THE FIRST FINAL SOLUTION
In the aftermath of World War II, the word "Holocaust" took on a much larger and more dreadful meaning: the systematic slaughter of over 6 million European Jews and millions of other "undesirables" by the Nazi regime before and during World War II. The word has become synonymous with pure evil.

What do these ancient tales and distant horrors have to do with us in these enlightened times? Everything. Simply put, this is the story of Planned Parenthood and the systematic extermination of an entire people through the destruction of their own children. Since 1973, more than 18 million black children of the 60.9 million abortions (31%) have been deliberately killed. By one estimate, the black population has been reduced by more than 25% since the Roe v. Wade Supreme Court decision legalizing abortion.

There is precious little on either side (which I think does tell us something); but the ones that exist, such as the Obama HHS' study of Head Start, seem to indicate that they are useless at best. THAT is why I don't support these programs.

Israel rocket attack: Six wounded north of Tel Aviv
[Aljazeera] Israeli military says rocket fired from the Gaza Strip hit a home in Mishmeret, a town north of Tel Aviv.

A rocket fired from Gaza struck a home in central Israel on Monday wounding six people.

The sounds of air raid sirens woke up the residents of the residential Sharon area and a strong sound of an explosion followed. The Israeli military said it identified a rocket fired from the Gaza Strip and was investigating.

Police and medics said a home was hit and caught fire, and six people were wounded.

The incident in Mishmeret, an agricultural settlement town north of Tel Aviv, came at a time of high tension ahead of the anniversary of Gaza border protests and an April 9 election campaign in Israel.

NATO Confirms Plans For $260 Million U.S. Storage Site In Poland
[Radio Free Europe] NATO has confirmed that it plans to establish a storage facility in Poland for U.S. military equipment, including armored vehicles, ammunition, and weapons to arm a full brigade.

A NATO official on March 23 told AFP that a report earlier by The Wall Street Journal that said the $260 million facility would be located in Powidz, some 200 kilometers west of Warsaw, was accurate.

The WSJ quoted NATO chief Jens Stoltenberg as saying work on the site will begin this summer and take two years to complete.

Since Russia’s annexation of Ukraine's Crimean Peninsula in 2014, Poland, the Baltic states of Latvia, Lithuania, and Estonia as well as other Eastern European states have expressed concerns about their security.

The United States has deployed and rotated troops in the region since the Ukraine crisis began in an effort to deter Russia. NATO has also increased its presence near Russia’s borders.

The Deadly Truth about South Africa
[American Thinker] The corruption in South Africa is so bad, it’s like a noxious fog that has settled on a once peaceful, prosperous, and prejudiced nation. South African’s President Cyril Ramaphosa is being pilloried, pulled, and pushed from many sides, and many of the political players are more radical than he. He is busy trying to stay in power and get reelected later this year, but he has to deal with many warring factions inside and outside the African National Congress (ANC), plus the murder for hire of wayward members and multiple acts of sabotage in many major cities. Everyone seems to carry guns or has bodyguards even low-level provincial (state) leaders.

The ANC no longer stands for African National Congress but for Accumulation, Nepotism, and Cronyism. Corruption is one of the most used words by South Africans. Of course, this does not surprise anyone since one-party rule always results in cronyism, chaos, and corruption.

The corruption is ubiquitous, especially in the ANC, the political party that has been controlled by Communists from its earliest days and has governed South Africa since the end of the white minority government in 1994. The ANC is infamous for sabotage in earlier years and now that there are many factions within, it has returned to sabotage plus assassinations‐of longtime comrades. It is now a fractured party with occasional episodes of the "Shoot Out at the O.K. Corral." It seems every member in the national government and in the provinces has his hand out or worse‐even putting out contracts on fellow members with whom they serve!

The New York Times last fall published an article, "Hit Men and Power" highlighting that "corruption and divisions have flourished within the A.N.C. in recent years." It admits that too many have lost the vision of earlier years and are struggling for "influential positions and the spoils that go with them." Thus far, few of the ANC officials in charge at the national or local levels have been held to account.

But the corruption is not only in the ANC but also in every facet of the nation: the schools, local governments, utilities, the mines, the police, the unions, South African Airlines, the rail service, and the banks. Plus, the political corruption in the ANC bleeds into all areas of national and local governments. Everyone seems to demand a bribe to do anything.

-Lurid Crime Tales-
Senator Lindsey Graham Has An Ominous Message For James Comey
[Daily Caller] Republican South Carolina Sen. Lindsey Graham sent a cryptic message to James Comey on Sunday, hinting at what might be in store for the former FBI director.

It began with a photo Comey tweeted earlier in the day, captioned simply, "So many questions."

Graham, who is currently the chairman of the Senate Judiciary Committee, has long promised an investigation into alleged FISA abuse ‐ which he believes may have played a role in the early stages of the Mueller investigation ‐ along with investigations of key players like McCabe and Rosenstein.

In pursuit of those ends, Graham has already requested all FBI and DOJ documents related to investigators’ attempts to verify allegations made in the Steele dossier.

The South Carolina senator’s Sunday tweet appeared to indicate that Comey should also expect to spend some time before the Senate Judiciary committee in the near future.

Tucker Carlson on Mueller Probe Conclusion: ‘The People on TV Have Been Lying to You'
[Breitbart] Friday on Fox News Channel’s "Tucker Carlson Tonight," host Tucker Carlson reacted to reports that Department of Justice special counsel Robert Mueller was submitting his the probe’s report to Attorney General William Barr, which signified the conclusion of the probe’s investigation into Russian interference in the 2016 presidential election.

Given there were no indictments tied to alleged collusion between 2016 Trump campaign officials and the Russian government, Carlson concluded the many had been misled by some who have taken to television to make claims of Trump-Russia collusion.

"The people on TV have been lying to you," Carlson said. "They will deny it now. They will tell you it was always about Trump’s taxes or some foreign real estate deal or hush money he paid to a girlfriend. That’s a crock. This investigation was always from day one about collusion with Russia. About betraying this country. They told us that for years."

It's nothing new, but now the marks are catching on.

Arabia
Oman allows US military to use its ports
[AlAhram] Oman on Sunday said it had signed an agreement with the United States that would allow American ships and warplanes to take advantage of ports and airports.

The state-run Oman News Agency said the "framework agreement" was aimed at bolstering "Omani-American military relations" in a report on its English-language website.

"It will allow the US forces to take advantage from the facilities offered at some of the Sultanate's ports and airports during visits of the US military vessels and aircrafts, particularly in the port of Duqm," it said.

Duqm port is located in southern Oman on the Arabian Sea and around 500 kilometres (310 miles) from the Strait of Hormuz.

At the mouth of the Gulf, the strait is crucial to global energy supplies, with about a third of the world's seaborne oil passing through it every day.

Shia Iran has repeatedly threatened to block the strait due to tensions with Sunni-ruled Gulf nations, including its main regional rival Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The narrow waterway is also an international transit route where American forces routinely pass and which has seen tense encounters between them and Iranian forces in the past.

Russian plane in Venezuela amid reports of Russian military arrival
Expanding on the tweet posted yesterday.
[AlAhram] A cargo plane bearing the Russian flag was spotted by AFP at the main airport in Venezuela Sunday amid reports that Moscow has dispatched troops and a senior military official to the country.

The aircraft was seen at Maiquetia airport outside Caracas guarded by a contingent of Venezuelan National Guardsmen.

Javier Mayorca, an independent journalist, reported on his twitter account the arrival of two Russian panes -- an Antonov-124 cargo plane and a smaller jet -- late Saturday at the airport.

He said around 100 Russian soldiers led by General Vasily Tonkoshkurov, head of the Mobilization Directorate of Russia's armed forces, disembarked along with about 35 tons of equipment.

A picture of a Russian flagged aircraft posted on social media showed men in uniform clustered around it on the tarmac.

There was no confirmation from Venezuelan authorities, and the Russian embassy in Caracas declined to comment to AFP on the report, which was widely carried by Venezuelan media.

Russia and China are the main allies of Venezuela. Both have lent billions of dollars to the oil-rich South American country, propping up the anti-US government of President Nicolas Maduro
Venezuela's attempt at producing a Muammar Qadaffy...
Russia has also vocally opposed US moves to sanction Maduro and his government, and to recognize opposition leader Juan Guaido as Venezuela's interim president.

US moves against Caracas have ratcheted up in recent weeks, with President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
warning "all options" -- implicitly including US military intervention -- were being considered.

On April 28, US sanctions are to jump up a level with a ban on crude imports from Venezuela. America is historically Venezuela's biggest oil buyer, and that step is expected to severely crimp the Maduro government's already diminished finances.

Russia has previously signalled its support for Maduro by sending two TU-160 bombers to Venezuela last December to take part in a military exercise.

Russia's President Vladimir Putin
...President-for-Life of Russia. He gets along well with other presidents for life. He is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substance. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to him. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead from poisoning by polonium or other interesting substances...
has a record of ordering his military -- or paramilitary -- forces into several theaters to challenge US strategies, notably in Syria and Ukraine.

However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
any Russian foothold in Latin America, especially Venezuela, would alarm the US military. It would also be a political test for Trump, who has routinely avoided criticizing Putin.

Egypt says BBC 'promoting lies of Muslim Brotherhood' in online article
[AlAhram] The Egyptian State Information Service called on officials to boycott the BBC and has summoned the head of its Cairo office.

In a detailed statement issued on Sunday, Egypt’s State Information Service (SIS) accused the British Broadcasting Cooperation (BBC) of "promoting the lies of the Moslem Brüderbund terrorist group" in an "inflammatory article" published on the BBC's Arabic-language website.

The SIS has accused the BBC of "literally turning themselves into a propaganda tool of media outlets directly affiliated with the Moslem Brüderbund," and has summoned the head of the BBC's Cairo office over the article, which is titled '#Rest_assured_you_are_not_alone campaign renews calls for protests against Sisi'.

"The Brotherhood are considered a terrorist organization by Egypt and several countries including the United Kingdom... which officially classified Hasm and Lewaa al-Thawra
...The Revolution Brigade, which along with Hasm (Decisiveness or Determination) is one of the fighting arms of the Muslim Brotherhood in Egypt, established to fight back against the overthrow of President Morsi...
‐ two organizations affiliated with the Brotherhood ‐ as terrorist groups," the SIS said.

The SIS slammed the article for describing a call for protests on Twitter by a pro-Brotherhood TV presenter as a "campaign," adding that this call has not gained any traction in Egypt.

The SIS said that the article propagated false reports by posting videos from Brotherhood-affiliated media that purports to show anti-government protests in several Egyptian governorates.

The SIS said that the article propagated false reports by posting videos from Brotherhood-affiliated media that purports to show anti-government protests in several Egyptian governorates.

The statement also rejected the article's caveat that the authenticity of the videos had not been verified by the BBC.

"This violates universal professional codes of conduct, as the BBC’s Cairo office with its dozens of correspondents nationwide should have tried to actually investigate whether the content of these videos was authentic," the SIS stated.

"The BBC’s failure to take this necessary step before publishing the article seems intentional in order to legitimise the allegations of media outlets affiliated with the Moslem Brüderbund -- a terrorist organization," the statement said, adding that not a single foreign correspondent from any other news outlet reported on any such protests in Egypt.

"It seems the Brotherhood are the only ones who witnessed [these protests] and the BBC is the only accredited foreign media outlet that has promoted them," the SIS said.

The statement also slammed the article for failing to include any comments from Egyptian officials about the matter.

The SIS said that the BBC should immediately give a formal apology for the article, and called on "all Egyptian officials and the intelligentsia to boycott the BBC and refrain from giving any interviews or statements to its correspondents until it formally apologises... and takes the necessary administrative and professional measures to undo the violations it has committed."

This is not the first time the SIS has accused the BBC of publishing false news about Egypt.

In March 2018, the SIS slammed the BBC over a TV report alleging torture and forced disappearances of Egyptian opposition members by Egyptian security forces.

In October 2017, the SIS denounced the BBC and Rooters for reporting a false corpse count in a terrorist attack in Egypt's El-Wahat area.

NJ Gov. Signs 'Rain Tax,' 18 Other Bills Into Law
[Patch.com] TRENTON, NJ ‐ New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy on Monday signed 19 bills into law, including the so-called "rain tax." The bill, which was dubbed the "rain tax" by opposing Republicans, permits counties, municipalities and certain authorities to establish stormwater utilities and impose related fees and other charges.

Supporters of the bill, S-1073, call it "flood defense," and say it will serve as a long-needed tool to manage flooding and dirty runoff from rainwater.

"Most importantly, it gives communities a way to access new resources in a fair and equitable manner, and invest in related benefits such as additional green space. We urge the governor to sign it," said New Jersey Future's Chris Sturm, who serves as the advocacy group's managing director for policy and water.

group's brutal rule, life in the "caliphate" was a living hell where girls were enslaved, music was banned and homosexuality was punishable by death.

The jihadists applied an ultra-conservative interpretation of Islamic law across the swathes of Syria and Iraq that they captured in 2014, torturing or executing anyone who disobeyed.

The fall of the last sliver of IS territory in eastern Syria marks the end of their proto-state, once the size of the United Kingdom and home to more than seven million people.

The fate of prisoners used by the jihadists as human shields remains unknown, but more than 3,000 Yazidis are still missing.

The jihadists singled out the minority, followers of an ancient religion, for particularly harsh treatment which the UN has said may amount to genocide.

They slaughtered thousands of Yazidi men and boys, abducting women and girls then selling them at slave markets.

Many suffered years of sexual abuse.

"We did everything they demanded," said Bessa Hamad, an Iraqi Yazidi sold six times by jihadists before escaping their last redoubt in Syria. "We couldn't say no."

Yazidi boys who were not killed were forced to fight and indoctrinated to hate their community, leaving families struggling to reconnect with those who were rescued.

Children who went to IS-run schools learnt to count with maths books featuring guns and grenades, but pictures of people were banned.

As well as frontline fighters, IS ran its own police force, whose officers could impose fines or lashes on men whose breath smelt of cigarettes or alcohol.

Books were burned, while dancing and music were banned. Instead the jihadists broadcast propaganda via their own radio station.

The jihadists used sledgehammers to destroy priceless ancient artefacts they deemed idolatrous.

A strict dress code forced even maiden of tender yearss to wear a full black Islamic veil.

Beards and traditional robes were compulsory for men.

THROWN FROM ROOFTOPS
The snuffies ran their own courts, sentencing people to death by beheading and hanging.

Men and women accused of adultery were stoned to death. Men were shot or thrown from rooftops for the "crime" of being gay.

The jihadists even introduced their own currency, minting coins that veterans of the battle against IS now keep as trophies.

Jail terms were imposed on those unable to pay IS taxes.

Iraq's major northern city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
and Raqa in Syria were transformed into the twin de facto capitals of the "caliphate".

Raqa become a byword for atrocities carried out by the jihadists, and it was from there that IS organised devastating overseas attacks.

Human heads were displayed on spikes in the city along with crucified bodies, to sow terror.

IS initially won support from some residents who felt abandoned and abused by corrupt state authorities.

But today, those who survived its rule accuse the jihadists themselves of graft -- as well as extreme acts of violence.

IS left more than 200 mass graves in Iraq and thousands of bodies are expected to be uncovered in Syria.

Numerous women interviewed by AFP said they received IS-stamped death certificates for their executed husbands, but the jihadists would not return their bodies.

It could take years to discover what happened to some of their victims.

Some IS members leaving the group's last redoubt of Baghouz in eastern Syria have cricitised the group's leadership.

"God's law was applied," said Abdel Moneim Najia, a jihadist who stayed in what was left of the "caliphate" until its final days.

But he voiced the same grievances as Iraqis and Syrians expressed about their governments ahead of the IS takeover.

"There were injustices," he said. "Officials stole money and abandoned the people."

The cache was contained in a hard drive dropped by an IS sleeper cell during a firefight with local forces in the Syrian desert in February.

Attesting to its authenticity, the paper said the files contained the types of meticulous detail that have become a hallmark of the group’s record keeping and bureaucracy. Lists of fighters’ names and allotted weapons were joined by budget spreadsheets and payments to fighters and their wives. Others lament the lack of availability of jacket wallahs and vehicles for use as boom-mobiles.

However,
the hip bone's connected to the leg bone...
more startling are letters from a senior IS leader who goes by the name Abu Taher al-Tajiki, claiming he has fighters willing to conduct operations "far away from the Islamic State" and would be in touch with them to "carry out the operations." To facilitate these attacks, he requests the setting up of a Bureau of Foreign Relations for the Department of Operations in Europe.

Other letters addressed to group leaders in Iraq and Syria by al-Tajiki proposes the establishment of what he calls "crocodile cells," called such to represent IS killers who hide beneath the surface before attacking. Their missions would involve "killing the enemies of God and taking their money." Online hackers and technicians were also available for missions without the need for weapons.

SDF try to piece together what happened to ISIS captives
[Rudaw] Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), who are holding thousands of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS) members, are trying to piece together a picture of what happened to the people who were held captive by the terror group.

"We rescued some of them, but not many in the past five years," Redur Khalil, SDF spokesperson and bigwig, told Rudaw at the ceremony to mark the territorial defeat of the group’s so-called caliphate on Saturday.

When ISIS swept across northern Iraq in the summer of 2014, they kidnapped 6,417 Yezidi women and youth. As of early March this year, 3,371 have been rescued and the whereabouts of 3,046 remains unknown, according to figures from the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG).

The Yezidis were not the only ones who had their children kidnapped by the turbans and subjected to the group’s brutal ideology. Four Turkmen boys from Tal Afar were among 13 children rescued during the battle to defeat ISIS in Baghouz, eastern Syria this month.

Hope has dwindled for the families who have waited years for news of their missing loved ones as they watched the SDF and the global coalition slowly tighten the noose on ISIS in Syria until their ultimate defeat, announced on Saturday.

Wadiha Ibrahim’s husband, three sons, and one daughter have been missing for more than four and a half years.

"We had hoped they [would] return. We were waiting. But they never returned," she told Rudaw earlier this month, sitting outside the tent that is her temporary home in a camp in Kurdistan Region’s Duhok province.

The world is also waiting for news of hostages from around the globe who disappeared into the black ISIS void.

There was a brief flicker of hope in January that British journalist John Cantlie might still be alive. Used as a mouthpiece by ISIS, he was last heard from in 2016 until there were rumours he had been spotted in Hajin, Syria in January.

As the battle raged, the SDF said they could not confirm whether hostages like Italian priest Paolo Dall’Oglio or Lebanese journalist Samir Kassab were alive or dead.

The SDF is holding at least 10,000 ISIS jihadists ‐ mainly Iraqis and Syrians as well as imported muscle. They have also screened tens of thousands of family members of the hard boys.

"We interrogate [them] about what happened to those they held captive. Where did they go? What is their fate and whereabouts? These investigations continue, but unfortunately, we have not reached a clear result yet," explained Khalil.

"It is very painful and saddening," he said.

Shutdown in occupied Kashmir against India's ban on Jammu and Kashmir Liberation Front
[DAWN] A complete shutdown was observed in India-Indian Kashmiree against the banning of Jammu and Kashmire Liberation Front (JKLF) by the Indian government, the Kashmire Media Service reported on Sunday.

New Delhi had announced a ban on the pro-independence group yesterday, as part of a crackdown on what it calls "separatist organizations".

A statement issued in Delhi said the Indian government had declared JKLF an "unlawful association" as it was trying to curb the activities of "secessionist organizations" posing a threat to the country’s unity and integrity.

The group’s leader, Yasin Malik
...chairman of one of the two factions of Jammu Kashmir Liberation Front. JKLF is a Kashmiri nationalist organization founded in Birmingham, UK in 1977. Branches weren't actually established in Kashmir for another ten years. It has the usual demands for separation of J&K from secular India so it can become an independent Islamic rathole. It seems to have no interest in Pak Kashmir breaking away to join it. In 1994 Malik renounced violence after he was released from jail and from that point he and his organization pursued peaceful means to impose their will on the region...
, was tossed in the slammer
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
recently in a counteroffensive against dissent following a Feb 14 suicide kaboom that killed over 40 Indian soldiers in the disputed region. Over a thousand people have been arrested since then.

The call for a strike was given by the Joint Resistance Leadership (JRL) comprising Syed Ali Gilani, Mirwaiz Umar Farooq and Muhammad Yasin Malik.

All shops and other business establishments were shut in Srinagar and other cities of the valley.

Indian police and paramilitary forces set up checkpoints at several places, while troops were deployed to foil possible protests in downtown Srinagar.

"The order to ban Jamaat-e-Islami

The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
and JKLF is nothing but an act of political vengeance and an oppressive tactic to suppress the just movement of people of Jammu and Kashmire. The Indian government’s decision to ban the organizations peacefully striving for the resolution of Kashmire dispute, will not cow down the people," a statement from the JRL said.

The statement added that the Indian government wants to "push people towards the wall for raising the demand to get their rights but it will not make pro-freedom leadership to crumble".

Severe rioting in Ktsi’ot jail by Hamas terrorists

Hamas inmates riot, stabbing and wounding prison guard in neck

[IsraelTimes] Second officer lightly injured in riot at Ketziot Prison; 11 inmates maimed in dispute over attempts to block mobile phone usage; prison services say situation under control.

Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood, prisoners stabbed two guards at the Ketziot prison in southern Israel on Sunday, injuring one of them seriously, according to prison services. The attack sparked a riot in which 11 inmates were also reported hurt.

The badly maimed guard sustained stab wounds to the neck, while the second, lightly hurt officer had a hand injury. The guards were airlifted to the nearby Soroka Medical Center in Beersheba for treatment.

The hospital later said the condition of the guard had stabilized and he was listed in a moderate condition.

According to Hebrew reports, the guards were attacked with improvised weapons fashioned into knives. The riot came as security prisoners were being moved between cells. The attack came as part of an ongoing effort by Israel to restrict cellphone usage by the prisoners, including the installation of jamming systems.

Eleven prisoners were also injured and hospitalized after security forces quelled the riot. Seven of the prisoners were also airlifted to hospital by the IDF, the Haaretz daily reported. Their condition was not immediately clear, with the Israel Prison Service saying they were "in various conditions."

The prison service said the situation was under control, but gave no details on how it put down the riot.

The incident came a week after Hamas prisoners in the Ramon prison torched 14 beds, setting a fire in the wing.

The blaze was quickly extinguished and no injuries were reported. In that incident too, prisoners were protesting restrictions on cellphone usage.

Public Security Minister Gilad Erdan said the attack "was very serious and proves once again that the prisons service is on the front-line of the war against terror."

Erdan vowed the jamming would continue, saying that blocking their ability to use mobile phones was an important step in attempts to prevent "terror attacks being directed from within the prison against Israeli civilians."

IDF tank strikes 2 Hamas posts after cross-border attacks
[IsraelTimes] Arson device from Strip lands in open field in Eshkol region; in separate case, explosive detonates in Sha’ar Hanegev, causing neither injury nor damage.

An Israeli tank targeted two Hamas, the braying voice of Islamic Resistance®, posts along the Gazoo border on Sunday night, following a number of cross-border attacks throughout the day, the military said.

"An Israel Defense Forces tank attacked a military post belonging to the Hamas terror group in the northern Gazoo Strip, in response to bombs that were thrown [at the security fence] and balloons carrying bombs that were launched throughout the evening," the army said in a statement.

A short while later, the military said it had conducted a second tank strike on a Hamas post in response to continued border violence.

There were no immediate reports of Paleostinian injuries, but the Strip’s Red Islamic Thingy emergency medical service said one of their ambulances was damaged in the IDF’s first strike.

On Sunday afternoon, a shepherd was lightly injured by a balloon-borne incendiary device flown, into southern Israel from the Gazoo Strip, local authorities said.

The object landed in an open field in the Eshkol region. It was at least the second such device of the day to touch down in Israel from the Strip, following a particularly violent Saturday night along the Gazoo border.

The Bedouin shepherd who was standing nearby sustained burns to his hand, an Eshkol spokesperson said, calling for people to contact security officials in such cases.

He was taken to Beersheba’s Soroka Medical Center and treated before being released home, a hospital spokesperson said.

The incident was one of the few cases of a person being directly injured by the thousands of incendiary and bombs that have been launched into southern Israel from the Gazoo Strip over the past year.

A short while later, an bomb that was also apparently flown into southern Israel from the Gazoo Strip detonated in a community in the Sha’ar Hanegev region.

The blast caused neither injury nor damage, a regional spokesperson said.

"An kaboom was heard in one of the communities in the region. Following a search, the site of the blast was found," Sha’ar Hanegev said in a statement.

The bomb appeared to have been sent into the community by a cluster of balloons from the Gazoo Strip, but this had yet to be confirmed, the regional spokesperson said.

On Sunday morning, a suspected bomb landed in a field in the nearby Sha’ar Hanegev region.

A police sapper was called to the scene to remove the object, which was flown into Israel from Gazoo by a cluster of balloons.

The device caused neither injuries nor damage, a Sha’ar Hanegev spokesperson said.

On Saturday night, Israeli military aircraft bombed Hamas targets in Gazoo after a rocket alarm sounded in some Israeli communities bordering the Strip, triggered by a powerful improvised bomb thrown at the border during late-night riots.

A Paleostinian was killed by Israeli fire during the festivities early Sunday, authorities in the Strip said. The 24-year-old man was fatally shot in the chest and two others were maimed, the Hamas-run health ministry said.

There was no immediate comment or confirmation by the Israel Defense Forces.

The military said aircraft struck two Hamas reconnaissance posts in response to "the multitude of bombs that were thrown and went kaboom! during the night."

Nighttime riots in Gazoo have been led by so-called "confusion units" organized by the Hamas terror group, the Strip’s de facto ruler. On Saturday, the units said they would step up activities, with a week of nightly riots from 7 p.m. until dawn along the border, and more airborne incendiary devices launched into Israel.

Jerusalem teens indicted for firebombing police on Temple Mount
[IsraelTimes] Suspects charged with throwing Molotov cocktail, shooting fireworks at cops earlier this month amid soaring tensions over sacred site.

Prosecutors on Sunday indicted two Jerusalem teenagers for Molotov cocktailing a police post on the Temple Mount holy site in the capital’s Old City earlier this month.

The suspects ‐ a 15-year-old and a 17-year-old ‐ were charged with four counts of terrorist activity: using a weapon for terrorist purposes, terrorist arson, aggravated terrorist assault and aggravated attempted assault on a police officer.

The names of the teenagers and any identifying details have been barred from publication as they are minors.

On March 12, a Molotov cocktail was thrown at officers standing guard on the Temple Mount, known by Moslems as the Haram al-Sharif, leading to several arrests and low-level festivities on the platform.

Following the attack, police ordered the holy site closed until the following day, amid already high tensions at the site.

According to prosecutors, the teenagers had decided on March 5 that they would carry out an attack on the Israeli security forces guarding the Temple Mount "from a nationalistic-ideological motivation."

On March 12, one of the two teenagers approached the police post on the Temple Mount and threw the Molotov cocktail from approximately a meter away, setting fire to the reception desk, prosecutors said. One officer suffered smoke inhalation and sustained light wounds.

The suspect bravely ran away from the officers, who began chasing him, and signaled to his friend with a thumbs up to set off fireworks at the coppers.

"His friend lit the fireworks and fired them at the officers from a distance of 15 to 20 meters," according to prosecutors.

The two teenagers were placed in durance vile

shortly after the attack, along with eight other people, as officers scuffled with worshipers.

Prosecutors are requesting they remain in jug through the trial.

Woman, kept in chains for days and tortured by husband, rescued in Sahiwal
[DAWN] A woman who had been tied with chains for several weeks and allegedly tortured by her husband was rescued by police in Sahiwal on Sunday.

According to initial reports by police, the man had chained his wife up "on the pretext of her being possessed by demons" and would regularly beat her up brutally.
Police said the suspect had allegedly kept his wife locked up at their residence in the Sheeran Wali Gali neighbourhood for at least 20 days. Police were alerted by neighbourhood residents and a team from Ghalla Mandi cop shoppe was dispatched to recover the woman.

TV footage showed the woman sitting on the floor of a room handcuffed and with her shackled feet connected to a wall with a chain.

"My husband and in-laws used to tie me up and beat me," the woman told police after her rescue.

According to initial reports by police, the man had chained his wife up "on the pretext of her being possessed by demons" and would regularly beat her up brutally. He had also taken their two children away from her, including a breastfed baby.

Police initially suggested that the woman was of an unsound mind and had previously attempted suicide, however, the woman refuted this impression in her statement.

The rescued woman is currently in police custody.

Investigation officer Afzal Gill told DawnNewsTV that the woman will be presented in the court of a magistrate tomorrow who will determine whether she requires mental healthcare.

Her children presently live with her husband's family. Police have also arrested the suspect's brother.

Strong 6.3-magnitude quake jolts eastern Indonesia
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A 6.3-magnitude earthquake hit off the coast of North Maluku province in eastern Indonesia Sunday, US seismologists said, but no tsunami warning was issued.

The quake was 150 kilometers (92 miles) northwest of the coastal town of Ternate at a depth of 37 kilometers, according to the US Geological Survey.

The quake was felt in Ternate but residents were unconcerned, a local said.

"I was watching TV when the earthquake suddenly happened, the jolt was quite strong but thankfully it was quick so there was no panic," Ternate resident Budi Nurgianto told AFP.

Officials are still assessing the quake’s impact but there were no immediate reports of casualties.

"We are still checking to see if there’s any damage," said Rahmat Triyono, head of Indonesian weather agency BKMG's earthquake and tsunami division.

Indonesia experiences frequent seismic and volcanic activity due to its position on the Pacific "Ring of Fire", where tectonic plates collide.

The Grand Turk
The re-Islamification of Turkey continues: Erdogan moots renaming Istanbul’s Hagia Sophia museum a mosque
[IsraelTimes] Former church and mosque, now a museum, often sparks tensions between Christians and Moslems over Islamic activities held there.

Erdogan, who is a former mayor of Istanbul, is campaigning for votes for his Justice and Development Party (AKP) ahead of municipal elections on March 31.

The Hagia Sophia was first built as a church in the sixth century under the Christian Byzantine Empire as the centerpiece of its capital Constantinople, today’s Istanbul.

Almost immediately after the conquest of Constantinople by the Moslem Ottomans in 1453, it was converted into a mosque before becoming a secular museum in a key reform of the new post-Ottoman Ottoman Turkish authorities under Mustafa Kemal Ataturk in the 1930s.

Ataturk was the founder of the Ottoman Turkish republic.

Since Erdogan’s AKP came to power, critics and advocates of secularism fear the government harbours a hidden agenda to reconvert the Hagia Sophia into a mosque.
Nothing hidden about it, guys. He is riding the tram of democracy until he gets to his Moslem Brotherhood station, then he will get off. In the meantime, prepare to be arrested and your property confiscated, you secular Gulenists! (Yes, of course that’s contradictory, but when it comes to excuses, any insult that pushes buttons will be used.)
But The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
’s top court in September last year rejected an association’s demand that the Hagia Sophia be opened for Moslem prayers.

The museum, a UNESCO World Heritage site, receives millions of visitors every year.

Israel deploys two brigades to Gaza border
[ALMASDARNEWS] Israel has deployed its two infantry brigades and armoured units to Gazoo border, the country’s media outlets reported on Monday.

The reported deployment comes after the Israeli military accused Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", of carrying out a rocket strike from the Gazoo Strip earlier this day.

In a separate development on Monday, Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said that he would cut his visit to the United States and return to Israel to take charge of a response to the attack from Gazoo.

"In the light of the events related to the security, I have decided to shorten my visit to the United States. In a few hours I will meet with [US President Donald] Trump and immediately return to Israel to control our actions on the spot", Netanyahu said.

Netanyahu is due to meet Trump at the White House for the expected signing of an order recognizing Israel’s illusory sovereignty over the Golan Heights.

His statement came after at least seven people, including children, were maimed in the early hours of Monday by a Paleostinian shell that hit a crowded residential neighbourhood in Israel.

Europe
Switzerland to deport terrorists even if they risk death
Tipping point?
[Voice of Europe] The Swiss Council of States voted for the expulsion of terrorists to their country of origin, even if they risk torture or the death penalty, reported the Tribune de Genève.

Many on the left who were against the decision argued such a plan was against Switzerland’s Constitution, the European Convention on Human Rights and the Geneva Conventions.

According to the Swiss Constitution, "no one can be returned to the territory of a state in which he is at risk of torture or any other cruel and inhuman punishment or treatment", the socialist Swiss Minister of Justice Pascale Bruderer recalled.

"Switzerland would play the game of executioners in contravention of the principle of non-refoulement", said Bruderer.

However, the argument that Switzerland’s security was more important than the fate of deported terrorists found favour with a majority of the house. The vote was marginal, but the motion was finally passed by 22 votes to 18.

Independent Thomas Minder noted that "it is about the sovereignty of the country".

The text specifically concerns persons convicted of terrorist acts who still represent a danger to the security of Switzerland after the execution of their sentence.

Fawad Chaudhry, Sushma Swaraj spar over alleged abduction, forced conversion of Ghotki sisters
[DAWN] Minister for Information Fawad Chaudhry and India's Minister for External Affairs Sushma Swaraj exchanged words on Twitter on Sunday after the latter shared that she had asked the Indian high commissioner in Pakistain to give her a report on the alleged abduction and forced conversion of two teenage sisters from Ghotki.

Chaudhry, responding to Swaraj, said that this was Pakistain's internal matter and he hoped the Indian government would "act with same diligence when it comes to rights of Indian minorities".

"It is Pakistain's internal issue and rest assure[d], it's not Modi’s India where minorities are subjugated," he added. "It's Imran Khan

Mali sacks top army chiefs, dissolves militia after scores killed
[Al Jazeera] Mali's government has announced the sacking of top military officers and the dissolution of a militia, a day after the killing of more than 130 people.

Prime Minister Soumeylou Boubeye Maiga said on Sunday new military chiefs would be named, and that the Dan Nan Ambassagou association, comprising Dogon hunters, had been dissolved.

"The protection of the population will remain the monopoly of the state," Maiga told journalists.

Survivors of Saturday's attack said ethnic Dogon hunters carried out the raid in Ogossagou, a village in central Mali inhabited by the Fulani community.

Later on Sunday, Rooters news agency reported that army chief of staff General M'Bemba Moussa Keita was removed and replaced by General Abdoulaye Coulibaly, while chief of land forces General Abdrahamane Baby was replaced by Brigadier-General Keba Sangare.

The developments came hours after President Ibrahim Boubacar Keita called an emergency meeting in response to the attack, in which at least 134 men, women and kiddies were killed.

The victims were shot or hacked to death with machetes, a security source told AFP.

Iraq
Three ISIS extremists explode in north Iraq
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Three suspected ISIS jacket wallahs blew themselves up on Sunday in northern Iraq, the army said, a day after the bully boys’ "caliphate" was wiped out in neighboring Syria.

Army spokesperson Yahya Rassoul said the incident took place in a region near the Syrian border, where ISIS sleeper cells are believed to be present.

He said the suspects died as troops surrounded them, but there were no casualties among government forces.

Local officials said the suspects were killed as they were trying to attack troops in the village of Qayrawan, south of the mountainous region of Sinjar which borders Syria.

Fighters of the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces on Saturday pronounced the death of the nearly five-year-old ISIS "caliphate" which once stretched across a vast swathe of Syria and Iraq.

Their victory was hailed as a significant landmark in the battle against the bully boy group, but there have also been numerous calls for "vigilance" with many saying the fight is far from over.

Top SDF commander Mazloum Kobane on Saturday warned that a new phase had begun in anti-ISIS operations and appealed for continued assistance from the US-led coalition to help smash "sleeper cells."

Diehard gunnies continue to have a presence in mountainous or desert regions between Syria and Iraq, which had declared victory over ISIS in December 2017.

In Iraq, some of these regions remain inaccessible to security forces.

Algeria opposition propose six-month political transition
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A group of Algerian opposition parties and unions proposed on Saturday a "roadmap" to end a political crisis and weeks of protests sparked by the veteran president’s bid to stay in power.

President Abdelaziz Bouteflika
... 10th president-for-life of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and is currently on his third or fourth term. Maybe it's the fifth....
said on February 22 he would run for a fifth term in April 18 elections, despite concerns about his ability to rule, triggering an outcry in the country which has since been gripped by demonstrations.

The 82-year-old, who uses a wheelchair and has rarely appeared in public since suffering a stroke in 2013, earlier this month said he would pull out of the race.

But he also postponed the elections, meaning he will stay in power until polls are held.

Bouteflika’s current mandate expires on April 28 and proposals agreed at a meeting between opposition parties and unions call for a six-month transition period from that date.

The roadmap stipulates the creation of a "presidential body" that would run the country during the transition period and which would be comprised of "national figures known for their credibility, integrity and competence."

But members of the body should not run in future presidential elections nor back any candidates in the poll, the statement seen by AFP said.

The proposals were made during a meeting attended namely by the party of Bouteflika’s key rival Ali Benflis, a former prime minister who has joined the opposition, and the main Islamist party, the Movement for the Society of Peace.

Algeria’s opposition however has been marginalized by the protest movement, which has been largely led by students angry with the country’s political system.

Yentl apologises for remarks on Michael Jackson's accusers
[IMAGES.DAWN] Barbra Streisand apologised Saturday for her remarks about Michael Jackson and two men who have accused him of sexual abuse, saying that she should have chosen her words more carefully and that she admires the accusers for "speaking their truth."
"Slap me again, please!"
Streisand had received bitter criticism online after she was quoted in The Times of London as saying that Jackson’s accusers were "thrilled to be there" during the alleged abuse, which "didn’t kill them."
Rape, even statutory we are assured, is the single absolute worst thing that can happen to a woman. It's just a part of growing up for eleven year old boys.
After an initial statement Saturday to The News Agency that Dare Not be Named in which she sought to clarify her remarks, the superstar of song, stage and screen posted an apology online that went further.
They were thrilled to be there, it didn't kill them. How much clearer can you get?
"I am profoundly sorry for any pain or misunderstanding I caused by not choosing my words more carefully about Michael Jackson and his victims," she wrote.
"Papa, can you hear me?"
Trying walking back: “His sexual needs were his sexual needs, coming from whatever childhood he has or whatever DNA he has. You can say ‘molested,’ but those children, as you heard say, they were thrilled to be there. They both married and they both have children, so it didn’t kill them.” Fail

Jihadists attack northern Latakia town for first time since 2017
[ALMASDARNEWS] For the first time since 2017, the jihadist rebels have attacked the town of Slunfeh in the northern countryside of the Latakia Governorate.

According to a military communique from Slunfeh, the jihadist rebels launched a number of projectiles towards the town on early Sunday.

The military communique added that the missiles landed in the town’s open fields and local farms, but no one was harmed by the jihadist attack.

The last time the jihadist rebels attacked Slunfeh was in 2017 when they used armed drones to bomb the town.

It was initially thought that the Israeli military had bombed the Syrian military; however, it was later revealed to by the jihadist rebels after they released a statement.

Heard at AIPAC, Day 1: Romania moves embassy to Jerusalem, Honduras to open mission, and more
[Twitter] Romania PM: "I am pleased to announce today that Romania will move our embassy to Jerusalem, the capital of the State of Israel"
Bless you, President Trump, for moving the Overton Window, even if the president of Romania chooses, in a fit of pique, to disagree with his stunningly beautiful prime minister:
Romanian president rebuffs his ‘ignorant’ PM over pledge to move embassy: Final decision on relocating mission ‘rests with me,’ stresses Klaus Iohannis, contradicting government head’s statement at AIPAC conference.

Honduras president announces ‘immediate’ opening of ‘diplomatic mission’ in Jerusalem

[IsraelTimes] Honduras President Juan Orlando Hernández tells the AIPAC Policy Conference that his country will “immediately” open a diplomatic mission in Jerusalem.

“Honduras will immediately open our official diplomatic mission and this will extend our embassy to the capital of Israel, Jerusalem,” Juan Orlando Hernández tells the crowd.

In the long term, Hernandez says his country will move its embassy from Tel Aviv to Jerusalem once Israel opens an embassy in the Honduras capital of Tegucigalpa.

Last year, Honduras was one of only eight countries that opposed a UN General Assembly resolution condemning US President Donald Trump’s December 2017 recognition of Jerusalem as Israel’s capital, along with Guatemala, Israel, the Marshall Islands, Micronesia, Nauru, Palau and Togo

As 2020 Dems call to rejoin Iran deal, Dermer says that’s ‘totally unacceptable’

[IsraelTimes] Israeli envoy to the US tells crowd of 18,000 at AIPAC’s annual confab that re-entering the JCPOA means giving ‘hundreds of billions of dollars to people who are committed to Israel’s destruction’.

The American Israel Public Affairs Committee’s 2019 Policy Conference kicked off Sunday. This year’s motto — “Connected for Good — is a rebuke to the controversy that has ensured the organization over the last month, after freshman Congresswoman Ilhan Omar accused the lobby of paying politicians to support Israel.

AIPAC is committed to emphasizing that both sides of the aisle support Israel, and perhaps mitigating the perception that Israel has become a Republican cause. “The conference will focus on further strengthening bipartisan support for the US-Israel relationship,” an AIPAC official told The Times of Israel.

Last week, Al Monitor solicited leading Democratic candidates as to whether they would rejoin the deal that Trump pulled out of. Five said they would, including Vermont Senator Bernie Sanders, Massachusetts Senator Elizabeth Warren, and California Senator Kamala Harris.

The Democratic National Committee also passed a resolution in February calling for the United States to re-enter the agreement.

MP who quit UK Labour over anti-Semitism warns AIPAC ‘things can change quickly’

At AIPAC, Dem House majority leader aims fire at Ilhan Omar

[IsraelTimes] Steny Hoyer says comments by freshman lawmaker on dual loyalty is not representative of Democrats when it comes to Israel.
That’s certainly one perspective. But if it’s so, why was she not punished by being stripped of her committee memberships?
Hoyer also appeared to criticize Rep. Rashida Tlaib, D-Mich., a Palestinian American who backs ending assistance to Israel and who plans to lead a lawmakers’ tour of the West Bank to rival the one Hoyer leads to Israel every year with the assistance of an affiliate of AIPAC, as well as Rep. Alexandria Ocasio Cortez, D-N.Y., who has defended Tlaib and Omar.

“This August I will lead what I expect to be the largest delegation ever” to Israel, Hoyer said. “There are 62 freshman Democrats,” he said, and cocked his ear. “You hear me? 62 — not three.”
All the more reason to punish the three who are out of line. But y’all have not done so.

Police stoned as Frankfurt flash mob descends into chaos
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] A flash mob gathering in central Frankfurt descended into chaos with teenagers hurling stones at coppers, German authorities said Sunday.

A group of 600 youths had gathered on Saturday evening at the popular shopping street Zeil which they began running through "without any consideration for pedestrians," police said in a statement.

Police then issued the flash mob organizer with a dispersal notice, but an officer was then suddenly punched in the face by a 17-year-old youth.

As officers detained the teen, some among the crowd began throwing stones at police.

Three officers were hit, with one suffering light injuries. The other two were unscathed.

The gathering was finally cleared two hours after it began.

Investigations were now ongoing on the background of the flash mob, police said.

Authorities were also examining if organizers could be liable to take on the costs of the ensuing police operation.

The flash mob chaos in Frankfurt came just days after a mass brawl in central Berlin between followers of two social media stars.

Nine arrests were made as a fight broke out on the Alexanderplatz late Thursday among 400 backers of two rival YouTubers.

Police said it took around 100 officers, two of whom were maimed, to break up the fight.

Turkey Court Upholds Life Sentences for 37 in ‘Erdogan Assassination Squad’
[AAWSAT] The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....

... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
on the eve of the failed July 15 coup attempt in 2016.

The 37 defendants, all military personnel, were found guilty in October 2017 of attempting to assassinate Erdogan on the night of an attempted coup on July 15, 2016, as well as the murder of two coppers. They were accused of conducting a helicopter raid on a hotel in Marmaris, a resort town on the Aegean Sea, where Erdogan was on holiday.

Turkey's authorities linked the squad and the attempted coup to the Gulen Movement, headed by Fethullah Gülen

. The group, however, vehemently denied having any connection to the liquidation attempt or the coup.

... the Turkish version of the Boogie Man, who set fire to the Turkish Reichsstag...
The addresses of 12 of the suspects could not be determined or records showed they had left the country, the statement issued by the prosecutor’s office said, adding that operations spread over 37 provinces to detain the remaining 114 people were continuing.

In a separate operation on Friday, the Ankara Chief Public Prosecutor’s Office said it had ordered the detention of 18 suspects accused of links to the Gulen movement who were working as engineers for the defense industry company Havelsan.

Ottoman Turkish lawyer Selcuk Kozagacli, former president of the now-closed Progressive Lawyers’ Association (CHD) who has been behind bars since November 2017 on terrorism charges was also handed down a sentence of 11 years, three months.

Istanbul’s High Criminal Court rendered the sentence for conviction of membership in a terrorist organization. Six other defendants received sentences of varying length.

#5  The Mueller team sure took a long time to come to this conclusion. Strzok said: "There's no there there" in an email to Page from the gitgo--before there was even a SC. Had they really looked at collusion or conspiracy, they would have looked at Hillary the campaign as well. Now, Mueller is being made out as a hero because he was part of the delaying tactic and thus the cover-up.
