Federal government offering $1000. to anyone adopting a child wild horse
[The Hill] The Bureau of Land Management (BLM) said it will offer up to $1,000 to anyone who adopts a wild horse in an effort to "encourage more adopters to give a wild horse or burro a good home."

The agency said in a statement that it will be providing the funds under its Adoption Incentive Program for anyone who decides to take in an untrained wild horse or burro from the agency.

The agency said the goal of the program is to reduce the department’s "recurring costs to care for unadopted and untrained wild horses and burros while helping to enable the BLM to confront a growing over-population of wild horses and burros on fragile public rangelands."

Under the new program, qualified adopters are eligible to receive $500 "within 60 days of adoption of an untrained wild horse and burro" and another $500 "within 60 days of titling the animal."

The agency added that the incentive is available for all untrained animals that are eligible for adoption, including animals at BLM facilities and off-site events.

Who spawned the Christchurch killer?
BLUF:
[Pat Buchanan at WND] Now, there are no excuses, or defenses, for what happened in Christchurch. But there is an explanation.

All peoples to some degree resent and resist the movement of outsiders into their space. Some migrants are more difficult than others to assimilate into Western societies. European nations that had not known mass migrations for centuries were especially susceptible to a virulent reaction, a backlash.

Americans, after all, reacted viscerally to the Irish migration of 1845-1849, and, again, to the Great Migration from Central and Eastern Europe from 1890 to 1920. Inter-ethnic violence was not uncommon.

Our leaders in the 1920s understood this and took steps to halt the migrations until those who had come could be assimilated, and, in a word, Americanized. It worked. By 1960, we were a united people.

Then, without the people’s consent, the great experiment began:

America’s doors were thrown open to peoples of every religion, race, culture and creed, to create a different nation that mirrored all mankind in its diversity, in Ben Wattenberg’s phrase, a universal nation.

The problem: A universal nation is a contradiction in terms. A nation of all races, religions and tribes had never before existed.

The liberal democracies that embraced this ideology, this idea, are at war with human nature, and are losing this war to tribalism and authoritarianism.

As for Christchurch, unfortunately, such horrors appear to have become the new normal. But Brenton Tarrant alone is responsible for what he did. And it was not Trump but the New World Order globalists who fertilized the soil that spawned him.
Emphasis added.

And we will continue to 'lose the war' until the dominant tribe expels the democratic minority.

Our magnificent republic and it's experiment with freedom is but of speck of time in the annals of tribalism and authoritarianism.

#2  World air travel has made tribalism untenable. If you believe in your tribe first and foremost, you are going to have friction everywhere you go away from your tribe. You can argue either way about whether there is an American tribe (I really think there isn't) but the fact stuff gets kinetic wherever Americans go still says something about tribalism.

#5  I ain't holding my breath, Murcek. Most humans can't see past their little monkey spheres of 100 people and tend to be reactionary to events. There is money and power in tribalizing things and most people look towards a god or charismatic figure.

I don't have any faith in humanity overcoming its hunter-gatherer roots for small tribes with powerful leaders and spirits shaping the world. The old wise men were there to keep a break on those impulses, but when they were ignored or cast down things went to hell quick. Our wise men are out of favor and ignored since they don't generate the clicks and views reactionary and charismatic people do. Therefore shit will go to hell for a while.

#6  Tarrant is Australian. Tarrant worked as a personal trainer for two years about 10-12 years ago. His father was a triathlon-competitor and died at 49 of cancer. Mother was an English teacher. During a tour through Europe, Tarrant witnessed an Uzbek man drive a truck into a group of tourists in Stockholm, killing five. He claims to have been inspired by Anders Breivi, the Norway shooter. He spent much of his time playing violent video games while growing up according to his 94 yr.-old grandmother. He traveled extensively to different places in the world for seven years. The grandmother says he became radicalized after traveling. I wondered where he got the money to travel so much. He had a sizeable inheritance from his family. It's been reported he traveled to North Korea and Pakistan. Not exactly places most people would go for a vacation. He has been reported to say that he most identifies ideologically with China.

Muslim Doctor Stuns CNN: President Trump And GOP 'Beloved' In Much Of The Muslim World
[Daily Wire] On Saturday, a Muslim doctor who has been highly critical of radical Islam appeared on CNN and must have given that network heart palpitations as she insisted that in many parts of the Muslim world, not only is President Trump beloved, but so is former President George W. Bush, and that the Trump administration is not Islamophobic.

Dr. Qanta Ahmed, who hails from Great Britain, stated, "One thing the viewers should know, this president and this administration is often castigated as Islamophobic, but I move in the Muslim word, in Egypt, in Oman, in Jordan, in Iraqi Kurdistan, where this president is beloved. This president and the Republican Party going back to George Bush is very dearly held. Today is the anniversary of Halabja, the massacre of 180,000 Kurds at the hands of Saddam Hussein. That only change would [be] because of a Republican president. So it is very important not to lose so much perspective that we start believing our entire government is Islamophobic. That is not the case."

Ahmed added, "I did see his very categorical condemnation of the events in New Zealand and that was gratifying. And I also feel that he needs to do the same about white supremacy, not only the United States, but globally. There is nothing ‐ the president has no responsibility if a fanatic mentions him in a manifesto. A fanatic could equally mention me. So I don't think that is his responsibility. But, yes, I would like to see President Trump condemn all forms of lethal bigotry."

Rush: Real reason Trump soaring in battleground states
[WND] A new polls shows President Trump’s popularity is soaring in the key battleground states of Pennsylvania, Indiana, Michigan, Ohio and Wisconsin.

He leads a generic Democratic nominee in those states 46 percent to 40 percent, according to a Wall Street Journal survey.

Talk-radio host Rush Limbaugh told his listeners Monday it’s not hard to understand why.

Voters in those states like the "ongoing economic renaissance" they are experiencing.

"This wasn’t supposed happen. Trump was supposed to barely be above 30 now," he said.

But those states are "all thriving under the president’s pro-growth economic policies," the Pittsburgh Tribune Review reports.

"Indeed, Trump’s economic agenda has had a profound effect on Pennsylvania: The state’s 4 percent unemployment rate is now the lowest it’s been in nearly two decades, and the economy continues to add new jobs at a dizzying pace," the paper said.

POLL: In New York, Trump's Approval Ratings are Higher than Ocasio-Cortez's
[Legal Insurrection] Congresswoman Ocasio-Cortez might be a hit among the fringe left, but polling indicates she’s alienating voters and Democrats.

A new poll released by the Siena College Research Institute shows AOC’s favorability has tanked.

Favorability by the numbers:

From the SCRI:

“Ocasio-Cortez, with a negative 31-44 percent favorability rating, is as well known to statewide voters after three months in office as Gillibrand is after ten years as senator. While Democrats view Ocasio-Cortez favorably, independents view her unfavorably more than two-to-one and Republicans view her unfavorably, 68-6 percent. She is viewed slightly favorably in New York City but strongly unfavorably upstate and in the downstate suburbs.”

Worse still (for AOC), 2/3 of respondents strongly support the Amazon HQ deal that Ocasio-Cortez actively fought against, and say Amazon’s decision not to build a large facility in Queens is bad for New York:

MN Dems Reportedly Want Ilhan Omar Out of Congress ‐ She Blames Trump
[Daily Caller] Democratic Minnesota Rep. Ilhan Omar blamed President Donald Trump on Sunday after reports that members of the Minnesota Democratic Party are considering removing her from congressional office for her repeated anti-Semitic statements.

Minnesota Democrats are reportedly dismayed that Omar has made a string of bigoted comments about Jews, which have received massive condemnation from both sides of the aisle. Consequently, members of the state party are looking for someone to contest her nomination in 2020 and run a different candidate in her place.

Rather than blaming the Minnesota Democrats, Omar focused the backlash on Trump’s 2017 executive order, which has been referred to as a Muslim ban. The executive order suspended U.S. entry of those whose counties do not meet adjudication standards under federal immigration law for 90 days and included exceptions on a case-by-case basis.

Omar, along with fellow Democratic Rep. Rashida Tlaib of Michigan, became America’s first Muslim congresswomen when sworn into office in January. Both congresswomen’s time in office has been embroiled in allegations of anti-Semitism.

According to Financial Times, three people have been killed and five more injured. Police initially said nine were injured, but reduced the number to five on Monday afternoon.

Police are searching for 37-year-old Turkish man Gökman Tanis. They released a photo of the suspect on Twitter.

White House proposes caps on student loan borrowing
[NYP] The Trump administration on Monday proposed new limits on federal student loans taken out by parents and graduate students as part of a broader proposal to curb the cost of college.

White House officials included the plan in a list of suggested changes to the Higher Education Act, a sweeping federal law that governs student lending. The legislation is getting its first overhaul from Congress in more than a decade.

Ivanka Trump, the daughter and adviser of President Donald Trump, unveiled the plan at a meeting of the National Council for the American Worker, an advisory group that Ivanka Trump helps lead.

"We need to modernize our higher-education system to make it more affordable, flexible and outcomes-oriented, so all Americans, young and old, can learn the skills they need to secure and retain good-paying jobs," Ivanka Trump said on a call with reporters.

#8  Student loan default and delinquency statistics.

I know of a young woman who borrowed money through the student loan program. She went on to get a Ph.D. and then another in Europe. I was told she had borrowed a total of about $400K. She now has a university job after kicking around for a few years. She pays the minimum of about $10K/year based on her salary. In 40 years she might have it paid off. I know of another person who bought a new Audi with the money while attending school and getting paid as a TA. I know another student who bought a duplex with student loan money and later sold it. There are abuses in the program.

In addition to abuses in the student load program, universities are tied into the Federal government through many programs such as diversity multicultural program requirements, reporting requirements, EPA, OSHA, and many other programs. Moreover, like the government, universities have expanded the bureaucracy in universities significantly. The tie in to Federal programs ramps up the cost of education to the student and drives up the need for loans.

#9  Make the universities and colleges carry a sizable portion of the debt. They might actually want students to graduate with viable skills to pay them back.

I like this idea. But, further, I would require universities to inform students of their projected future earnings based on current statistics for their majors. I mean, with a degree in French literature, what can a student expect in the way of job prospects and earnings as opposed to a degree in engineering? Then tie the loan amount to the earnings potential, an engineering student could then borrow more than a French literature student.

Posted by: Jack Bonaparte7513 || 03/19/2019 12:37 Comments || Top||

#11  I feel the best way to fix the issue is make collages have skin in the game and limit available funds.

1) Limit the amount a student can borrow (can be adjusted for degree, school, etc.)

2) If a student finishes a degree, say an engineering 5 year degree, they need to be able to pay off the loan in 10 years at a reasonable payment plan. If the student can't due to no fault of their own, the collage is held financially responsible for the rest. The idea being a degree shouldn't be a lifetime payment plan. If someone can't pay it back in twice the time it took to get the degree, it was overcharged and the collage gets hit with the bill.

The idea back in the 70s is you could pay for what the degree cost in how long it took to get it. 4 year degree, most people could pay it off in 4-5 years. Things need to go back to paying for the degree in the time or double it took to getting it.

Otherwise this is little more than being a debt slave to the state.
Posted by: DarthVader || 03/19/2019 13:49 Comments || Top||

Alan Krueger, Democratic labor economist, dies at 58
[Politico] Alan Krueger, a celebrated labor economist whose research influenced Democratic policy on the minimum wage, died this past weekend at 58.

The cause of death was suicide, according to a statement from Krueger’s family released by Princeton University, where Krueger held a chair in political economy.

Krueger was chair of the White House Council of Economic Advisers under Obama and chief economist at the Labor Department under President Bill Clinton. A leading scholar on jobs, wages, and income distribution, Krueger joined the Princeton faculty in 1987.

"He saw economic policy not as a matter of abstract theories, but as a way to make people’s lives better," former President Barack Obama said in a written statement. "Through it all, he had a perpetual smile and a gentle spirit‐even when he was correcting you."

"A wonderful person, a very great economist," tweeted the Nobel prizewinning economist and New York Times columnist Paul Krugman, "who transformed our understanding of labor markets, and one of our finest public servants."

Home Front: Culture Wars
Your Kid Goes to Yale? So What?
[Townhall] I have told the following to numerous audiences:

I'm hardly a Hollywood celebrity, but almost no day goes by that I am not stopped by a few strangers who want to shake my hand and say something. Needless to say, I rarely know the religious identity of the individual, but if the person tells me what college their child goes to, I assume the individual is a Jew.

When I relate this to Jewish audiences, it invariably evokes a great deal of laughter. Jewish audiences know how true, albeit slightly exaggerated, it is. As I always add, to more laughter, non-Jews don't tend to tell strangers what college their child attends (which is why non-Jewish audiences don't find the story nearly as funny).

The story is humorous, but it conveys a serious and troubling fact: Many American Jews define their worth by the college their child attends. In American Jewish life, there are no bragging rights equal to being able to say one's child attends a prestigious college.

Thanks to the recent revelations about wealthy people -- few of whom are Jews -- paying large sums of money to bribe coaches and others to get their children into elite schools, it is now clear this perverse affliction is not limited to any ethnic or religious group.

Why would people do what they know to be immoral and illegal just to get their child into Yale -- or, for that matter, USC?

I am certain the biggest reason is bragging rights.

Apparently, many American parents define much of their worth as parents -- and even as individuals -- by what college their child attends.

Ted Cruz: 'Useful idiots' at United Nations help Hamas
[Washington Examiner] A group of "useful idiots" at the United Nations accused Israel of committing war crimes rather than hold terrorist groups responsible for using human shields in recent protests, a prominent Republican senator argued Monday.

Texas Sen. Ted Cruz delivered that rebuke hours after a commission appointed by the United Nations Human Rights Council reported that Israeli forces "killed and gravely injured" dozens of civilians over a nine-month period last year. The clashes arose form protests against the relocation of the U.S. Embassy to Jerusalem, as President Trump’s decision inspired a "Great March of Return" by thousands of Palestinians who sought to breach a border fence between Israel and Gaza. The most intense confrontations took place on the day of the Jerusalem embassy opening, which resulted in a U.N. rebuke.

"The Commission found reasonable grounds to believe that during these weekly demonstrations, the Israeli Security Forces (ISF) killed and gravely injured civilians who were neither participating directly in hostilities nor posing an imminent threat to life," the U.N. investigators said. "[T]he use of lethal force in response was rarely necessary or proportionate."

Government
Feds Not Monitoring How Taxpayer Funding Is Being Spent
[Free Beacon] Federal agencies are not monitoring how taxpayer funds are being spent, or whether research grants are being properly disclosed to the public.

A new report released by the Government Accountability Office found the Departments of Labor, Health and Human Services, and Education are failing to enforce the Stevens Amendment, which requires grant recipients to disclose federal funding when they publicize their projects.

The Labor Department's Employment and Training Administration (ETA) does not know how much taxpayer funding is going towards salaries for groups who receive grants, and the National Institutes of Health says it has difficulty calculating where taxpayer funding is going because research programs can have "multiple funding streams" and research portfolios of academics are "now more complex."

The three agencies accounted for over $500 billion in taxpayer-funded grants in fiscal year 2017. HHS alone handed out $455 billion in grants.

Since 1989 the Stevens Amendment, named after the late senator Ted Stevens of Alaska, has required grant recipients to disclose how much federal funding they received for projects when they publicize their taxpayer-funded work in press releases, statements, and other documents.

In his rationale for the law, Stevens said taxpayers "ought to be informed how much money comes from Federal sources in any program, project, or grant activity."

Friendly Neighborbood Whoopass In Miami Street
[Breitbart] Several spring break revelers got a little unruly in Miami Beach this weekend after the group of mostly women began smacking and punching each other in the middle of the street, according to a shocking video making the rounds on social media.

The video, which first surfaced on Saturday, showed the revelers dressed in swimsuits brawling in the middle of the street while the vehicles lined up around them honked their horns in the hopes the brawlers would take the fight elsewhere.

But the revelers showed no sign of slowing down as they continued to slog each other while a few young men filmed the incident using their cellphones.

Palestinians in Gaza resume night time border protests
[IsraelTimes] Images posted on social media show demonstrators setting off small kabooms, lighting tires on fire and pointing lasers at Israeli security forces.

Paleostinians in the Gazoo Strip resumed night time protests along the border between Israel and the coastal enclave on Monday, a week after halting them.

Pictures and videos posted on Twitter show Paleostinians in several locations in the border area, setting off small kabooms, lighting tires on fire, and pointing lasers at Israeli security forces.

The loud sounds created by the kabooms at previous night time protests have caused significant distress for some Israelis living adjacent to Gazoo.

Some 600 Paleostinians participating in the night time protests on Monday largely remained several hundreds of meters away from the border fence, an IDF front man said.

At past evening protests, many Paleostinians, mainly youth, have approached the fence and clashed with security forces. In some instances, they have thrown Molotov cocktails and rocks at troops.

Security forces detained and subsequently questioned four Paleostinians on Monday, who crossed the border, the army front man said.

Fatah official badly beaten in Hamas-run Gaza
[IsraelTimes] A bigwig with the Paleostinian party Fatah is badly beaten up in the Gazoo Strip on Monday, with the group accusing the strip’s Islamist rulers Hamas, a regional Iranian catspaw, of responsibility.

Hamas denies the claim and pledges to investigate the attack, which comes amid days of violent crackdown by its security forces on protests in Gazoo.

Atef Abu Seif, front man for Fatah in Gazoo and a member of its central committee, was beaten by a group of men near his home in the enclave, the official Fatah-aligned Paleostinian news agency Wafa says.

Pictures posted on Wafa show Abu Seif with a bandaged head and leg, with his clothes speckled with blood.

Mahmoud Aloul, deputy chairman of Fatah, accuses Hamas of carrying out an liquidation attempt.

Iyad al-Bozum, front man for the interior ministry in Gazoo, condemns the incident, telling AFP "the police are investigating the attack."

Security forces say stabbing attack foiled in Hebron
[IsraelTimes] Border Police officers jugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
a Paleostinian man Monday at the Tomb of the Patriarchs in Hebron on suspicion of planning a stabbing attack, as Israel remained on edge following a deadly shooting and knifing the previous day.

The suspect, in his 20s and from the Paleostinian town of as-Samu, was found to be carrying a knife, and during questioning said he planned an attack, Israel Police said in a statement.

Officers manning a security post close to the holy site became suspicious of the man, who was loitering nearby and appeared to be nervous and anxious.

Security forces approached the suspect with the intention of conducting a search of his person, but he resisted, the statement said. He was arrested and a search uncovered the knife.

His identity was not immediately cleared for publication.

Israeli military raids home, arrests brother of Ariel attacker
[Ynet] Security forces also searched the family business and questioned the father of 20-year-old Omar Abu Lila, suspected of killing an Israeli soldier and a father of 12

Israeli military raided the home of the suspected Ariel attacker and incarcerated
You have the right to remain silent...
his teenage brother early Monday morning. The security forces also questioned the father of the suspect, and searched a store belonging to the family. The 20-year-old Omar Abu Lila, from the village of Az-Zawiya in the West Bank, is suspected of killing two people and seriously wounding two others.

The Israel Defense Forces launched a massive manhunt for Lila on Sunday after he rubbed out 19-year-old Staff Sergeant Gal Keidan, and maimed two others - one seriously and one critically - in a shooting and stabbing attack close to the West Bank settlement of Ariel. One of the victims, Rabbi Ahiad Ettinger died Monday morning of wounds he sustained in the attack. He was a father of 12.

"Throughout the night, the Israel Defense Forces, in cooperation with the Shin Bet, the Border Police and the Israel Police, operated in the area of the villages in the area of the Ephraim Regional Brigade in pursuit of the terrorist," said the military in a statement. "In the meantime, extensive operational and intelligence efforts are underway in order to locate the perpetrator."

On his Facebook page, Lila published posts praising Paleostinian President the ineffectual Mahmoud Abbas
... a graduate of the prestigious unaccredited Patrice Lumumba University in Moscow with a doctorate in Holocaust Denial...
, and there was hardly any reference to political and religious issues. The only post to ever raise suspicions about his intentions, was a condemnation of Israeli security forces entering Temple Mount last summer.

The Sunday's incident apparently began when the 20-year-old stabbed the soldier at the Ariel Junction and then stole his rifle and shot him. The assailant used the weapon to fire at three vehicles, hitting a civilian and then hijacking a car, which he drove to another junction nearby where he shot another person before continuing on to a nearby Paleostinian village, said the military.

The security footage from the scene of the attack shows Lila approach the bus station where the 19-year-old Keidan was patrolling the area. The attacker is then seen confronting the soldier, grabbing his weapon and shooting him at point blank range, while soldiers stationed on the other side of the intersection open fire at the Paleostinian.

US envoy leads protest over anti-Israeli ‘bigotry’ at UN council
[IsraelTimes] In Geneva, the US ambassador to Germany leads protests outside the UN over what he terms the "bigotry" faced by Israel at the Human Rights Council, as nations weigh condemnations of the Jewish state.

Several hundred people join the protests which are largely focused on the council’s so-called Agenda Item 7, a fixture on the council’s schedule exclusively devoted to resolutions condemning Israel’s treatment of the Paleostinians.

Israel is the only country with a dedicated agenda item, which is one of the main factors that prompted the United States to leave the rights council last year.

"This is not just a form of bigotry. It is a sign of intellectual and moral decay," US envoy Richard Grenell tells the crowd.

"Like a drug-addiction, anti-Semitism is both a disease and a source of comfort" for states that habitually condemn Israel at the UN, says Grenell, who stirred controversy in Germany last year over his stated ambition to promote conservatives throughout Europe.

The protests were organized by the Geneva-based NGO UN Watch, which seeks to flag alleged anti-Israel bias within the UN, among other issues.

Europe
Dutch police arrest Turkish known wolf for killing 3 in tram honour killing,Turkey probing as well
Tying up initial reports here and here with a ribbon. Note how quickly the authorities reacted to a possible jihadi attack.
[AlAhram] Dutch police nabbed
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
a Ottoman Turkish man suspected of shooting dead three people and wounding five on a tram in the Dutch city of Utrecht on Monday.

Utrecht police announced the suspect, 37-year-old Gokmen Tanis, had been taken into custody.

The city was put into lockdown after the shooting, shortly after the morning rush hour, which authorities initially said was an apparent terrorist attack. Police conducted raids in several locations.

But hours after the shooting, the gunman's motive remained unclear.
Unclear to some, most definitely. But not to others — read on, dear Reader:
A prosecutor said it could be for "family reasons"
...which translates as an honour killing when the victim is female...
and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...Qatar's colony in Asia Minor....
's state-run Anadolu news agency, quoting relatives of the gunman, said he had fired at a relative on the tram and had then shot at others who tried to help her.

Helicopters hovered over the usually quiet mediaeval town.

Authorities had raised the terrorism threat in Utrecht province to its highest level, schools were told to shut their doors and paramilitary police increased security at airports, other vital infrastructure and at mosques.

Dutch Prime Minister Mark Rutte convened crisis talks immediately after the incident, which came three days after a lone gunman killed 50 people in mass shootings at two mosques in the city of Christchurch, New Zealand.

"Our country has today been shocked by an attack in Utrecht... A terrorist motive cannot be excluded," Rutte said.

"The first reports have led to disbelief and disgust. Innocent people have been struck by violence... We are now doing everything we can to find the perpetrator or perpetrators as soon as possible. That is now our complete focus."

The mayor of Utrecht, Jan van Zanen, said three people had been killed and nine injured, three of them seriously. The number of injured was later lowered to five.

Dutch police issued an image of Tanis and warned the public not to approach him.

The suspect had had previous run-ins with police, the prosecutor said. Local broadcaster RTV Utrecht said earlier the suspect was known to police for both minor and major crimes, including a shooting in 2013.

The shooting took place in Kanaleneiland, a quiet residential district on the outskirts of Utrecht with a large immigrant population.

Turkey probing deadly Dutch shooting attack, Erdogan says

[IsraelTimes] Ottoman Turkish intelligence services are investigating the deadly shooting attack in the Netherlands to determine whether it was a terror attack or a possible family dispute, President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First
... Turkey's version of Mohammed Morsi but they voted him back in so they deserve him. It's a sin, a shame, and a felony to insult the president of Turkey...
said Monday.

According to Turkish media, the main suspect, Gokmen Tanis, was born in Yozgat, central Turkey. Turkish state news agency Anadolu, citing “relatives” of the alleged assailant, said it may have been a possible “family dispute.”

‘If he did it, he must be punished,’ says estranged father of Utrecht suspect

[IsraelTimes] The father of the Ottoman Turkish-born man suspected of killing three people in an attack Monday in the Dutch city of Utrecht said his son should be punished if found responsible, a Ottoman Turkish news agency reports.

"If he did it, he must be punished," the DHA agency quoted Mehmet Tanis, father of 37-year-old suspect Gokmen Tanis, as saying after what Dutch officials said was likely a terror-related attack.

His father revealed he had lost contact with his son, having returned to his homeland in 2008 after divorcing his wife, DHA reports. She remained in the Netherlands with Gokmen.

Mehmet Tanis says he had since remarried and now lives in the central province of Kayseri.

"I have had no dialogue, no contact with my son for 11 years. We have not spoken to one another since 2008," he tells DHA.
I believe the technical term is throwaway kid.
Another Times of Israel article adds this tidbit:
Using the handle “HateDemocrat,” Tanis has threatened violence in the past against PowNed, a right-wing news website.

"I shouldn’t be prosecuted in Iraq," Marchohi was quoted by Rooters as saying during today’s hearing. "I should be prosecuted in Belgium. I am a Belgian citizen."

During an hour of proceedings, the presiding judge read out portions of Marchohi’s signed confession and showed a video and photographs that he said proved his membership of IS.

The images from a phone found in his possession at the time of his arrest showed Marchohi carrying a gun and making a hand gesture affiliated with the bad boys. Several pictures showed him cradling his infant son.

Marchohi denied all allegations against him in open court, including that he was a member of IS at any time.

Judge Jumaa Saidi told the court that the photographs were clear evidence Marchohi was a member of Islamic State.

Jaish in the spotlight
[DAWN] In the aftermath of the Pulwama episode, Kashmire-centric turban group Jaish-e-Mohammad
...literally Army of Mohammad, a Pak-based Deobandi terror group founded by Maulana Masood Azhar in 2000, after he split with the Harkat-ul-Mujaheddin. In 2002 the government of Pervez Musharraf banned the group, which changed its name to Khaddam ul-Islam and continued doing what it had been doing before without missing a beat...
has been making headlines internationally, as the jacket wallah involved in the attack claimed to be a member of the outfit.

This has led India to call for action against the group, particularly against its head Masood Azhar. While India has been thirsting for Dire Revenge in the post-Pulwama period, its efforts to blacklist the Jaish and its chief are not altogether altruistic. Delhi has made an all-out effort to prevent the Kashmire issue from being internationalised, and is presenting itself as a victim of ’terrorism’ to take the focus of the international community away from its brutal tactics in the held region. Indeed, all of Pakistain’s attempts at talks or acting on CBMs have been held back by the Modi regime’s single-point agenda ‐ to portray Pakistain as a hub of jihadi activity.

However,
a good lie finds more believers than a bad truth...
away from the Indian stance, there is still a case to be made for Pakistain’s clamping down further on the Jaish and others of its ilk ‐ for its own security.

The dangers of the path adopted by the Jaish are clear. Masood Azhar’s aim was to blur the distinction between pro-Kashmire jihadi groups and those subscribing to sectarian militancy within Pakistain.

When Gen Musharraf proscribed the Jaish, he was targeted by the group, barely escaping two attempts on his life.

The attempt to rein in the Jaish’s activities caused a large section of the group to join hands with the TTP to attack the state and religious minorities.

Attempts to deradicalise gunnies also did not work, and it became clear that the danger of reprisals notwithstanding, stern action was necessary against all gunnies ‐ whether they were allegedly using Pak soil to plan attacks outside the country, or killing and maiming thousands within the country. Indeed, Pakistain should have learnt a lesson from the Americans who encouraged jihadi elements in Afghanistan, only to be confronted by a monster of their own creation in later years.

Given this backdrop, many observers have emphasised the need to crack down hard on all such groups in Pakistain. Most have been banned but much more is required to ensure that they are eliminated and never come back to life.

If the world wants to blacklist Masood Azhar, there should be no hesitation on Pakistain’s part. Neither should China use ’technical reasons’ to block such a move.

There are no ’good’ or ’bad’ gunnies groups; all have either caused or are capable of wreaking havoc in the country. That outlook is hopefully a thing of the past now, as the prime minister has promised that no groups will be allowed to use Pak territory for turban activities. He must make good on that pledge. This is the only way Pakistain will regain the respect of the international community, and counter India’s constant campaign to isolate it.

Kurdish forces kill 3 Turkish soldiers in eastern Aleppo
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Kurdish-led "Wrath of Olives" operation room announced on Monday that their forces had killed three members of the Ottoman Turkish military in eastern Aleppo today.

According to the official social media account of the Wrath of Olives operation room, their fighters detonated a roadside kaboom while a Ottoman Turkish military convoy was moving through the village of Ajil near the key town of al-Bab.

The Kurdish group said that at least three Ottoman Turkish soldiers were killed as a result of the attack, including two military coppers.

The Ottoman Turkish military has yet to comment on these recent claims; however, the social media account of the Wrath of Olives released a number of photos of the alleged Ottoman Turkish soldiers killed during the operation.

The Wrath of Olives operation room was formed shortly after the Ottoman Turkish-backed Euphrates Shield took control of the Afrin region in northwestern Aleppo.

Since then, the Wrath of Olives operation room and the Afrin Liberation Forces have wreaked havoc on the Ottoman Turkish and rebel troops in northwest Aleppo.

nearly 13,000 people it describes as Lions of Islam in the traditionally Islamic region of Xinjiang since 2014 and broken up hundreds of "terrorist gangs".

The figures were included in a government report on the situation in the restive northwestern territory that seeks to respond to growing criticism over the internment of an estimated 1 million members of the Uighur and other predominantly Moslem ethnic groups.

China describes the camps as vocational training centres and says participation is voluntary.

Former detainees say they were held in abusive conditions, forced to renounce Islam and swear allegiance to China's ruling Communist Party.

The lengthy report issued Monday also says "law-based de-radicalisation" in Xinjiang has curbed the rise and spread of religious extremism.

Guaido's US ambassador takes control of three Venezuelan properties
[PULSE.NG] Carlos Vecchio, appointed by self-declared president Guaido, entered two Venezuelan military buildings in Washington -- while advisory minister Gustavo Marcano took control of the consulate in New York.

"We are recovering and protecting the assets of the Venezuelan people to stop the usurper regime from continuing to steal from and destroy them as it has in the last 20 years," Vecchio said.

Venezuelan Foreign Minister Jorge Arreaza, who is loyal to embattled President Nicolas Maduro

In a statement on Twitter, the Venezuelan government branded the action an "extremely serious violation of the US government's international obligations," and threatened to take reciprocal action in Venezuela.

The ambassador said that in the coming days, his mission would take possession of the Venezuelan embassy, although its accounts are frozen.

A source close to Vecchio said the opposition-controlled National Assembly would have to approve their use.

Iran deploys large flotilla to important shipping corridor off Yemeni coast
[ALMASDARNEWS] The Iranian Navy has dispatched its 61st naval group, consisting of the Sabalan frigate and the Bandar Abbas logistical support ship, to the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait between Yemen
...an area of the Arabian Peninsula sometimes mistaken for a country. It is populated by more antagonistic tribes and factions than you can keep track of. Except for a tiny handfull of Jews everthing there is very Islamic...
and Djibouti connecting the Red Sea to the Gulf of Aden, South Fleet Commander Rear Admiral Afshin Tashak has said.

"The naval group is on a mission to provide security for the routes used by the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran Shipping Lines (IRISL) in the area of the Gulf of Aden and the Bab-el-Mandeb Strait," Tashak said, speaking to Iranian media on Sunday.

According to the admiral, the naval group set sail for the strategic shipping strait on Saturday, departing from Iran’s southern port city of Bandar Abbas.

Also Saturday, the 60th flotilla, consisting of two logistical ships, which fended off a pirate attack on an oil tanker last week, safely returned home to the southern Iranian port of Bushehr after completing a 5,600 nautical-mile journey.

The Sabalan frigate is equipped with a 114 mm main gun, along with anti-ship missiles, mortar, machine gun, torpedo tubes, and anti-air defence weaponry. The Bandar Abbas is a lightly armed replenishment ship with a helicopter deck and hangar capable of carrying a lone light helicopter.

Since 2008, the Iranian Navy has contributed substantial resources to international anti-piracy missions off the eastern coast of Africa. According to Tashak, Iranian naval groups have escorted some 6,000 oil tankers through international waters over the past decade.

The Bab-el-Mandeb Strait and the adjacent Gulf of Aden linking the Indian Ocean with the Suez Canal is a major global shipping route, with the equivalent of about 4.7 million barrels of oil shipped through the strait each day.

Armed group kidnaps three civilians in Ghadduwah, southern Libya
[Libya Observer] An unknown gang has kidnapped three people after opening fire on several others in Ghadduwah in southern Libya, sources from the town have reported.

The sources added that the gang entered in a heavily armed convoy of about 10 vehicles, adding that the vehicles "appeared to have logos similar to those of ISIS."

The head of the municipal council in the town Masoud Abdelsalam told news hounds that the armed convoy was not identified, adding that one person was injured by their fire and he was sent to Sabha Medical Center.

Ghadduwah and Taraghen in south Libya were subject to attacks by some button men who could be from ISIS or Chadian rebels or even Libyan gangs in the region.

Clashes after Kurdish prisoner suicide in Turkish jail
[Rudaw] The death of a Kurdish activist on hunger strike in a Ottoman Turkish prison sparked festivities between supporters and police near his grave on Monday as his lawyers and Kurdish party officials said he had did away with himself.

Zulkuf Gezen, who died late Sunday, was one of scores of detainees on hunger strike in support of a Kurdish politician in Diyarbakir, a sensitive region where Ottoman Turkish forces have battled Kurdish holy warriors.

Clashes erupted on Monday when police fired water cannon to break up supporters of the main pro-Kurdish opposition party HDP who had gathered at his grave, an AFP news hound at the scene said.

"A prisoner lost his life yesterday. If the justice ministry had fulfilled its responsibility, our friend who lost his life would still be alive," HDP co-leader Sezai Temelli told news hounds.

Gezen’s lawyers said he had hanged himself. He had been in prison for 12 years on charges of membership of the PKK Kurdish holy warrior group.

In a statement, the public prosecutor’s office said Gezen had did away with himself in a bathroom, but rejected claims he killed himself as part of his protest.

A politician from HDP or People’s Democratic Party (HDP), Leyla Guven, launched a hunger strike on November 8 while in jail to protest the prison conditions for Kurdish leader Abdullah Ocalan. She has been released but other detainees followed her lead.

Ocalan is one of the founders of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK) which has waged a bloody rebellion against the Ottoman Turkish state since 1984. It is blacklisted as a terror group by Ankara and its Western allies.

Ocalan has been serving a life sentence for treason in an island prison near Istanbul since his capture in 1999.

The HDP remains under the scrutiny of Ottoman Turkish authorities, which accuse the party of links to the PKK. Several of its MPs are behind bars, including former party leader Selahattin Demirtas.

At least 171 prisoners are on hunger strike, according to the party, which has urged the international community to take action.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Top US general dismisses report of 1,000 forces remaining in Syria
[Rudaw] The US Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff described a media report that said the United States is planning to keep 1,000 forces in Syria as "factually incorrect."

"There has been no change to the plan announced in February and we continue to implement the president's direction to draw down US forces to a residual presence," added Gen. Joseph Dunford in a statement released on Sunday night.

Dunford was refuting a report by The Wall Street Journal published on Sunday. Citing US anonymous officials,
Oh. Well if it was anonymous officials...
the article reported that the United States would keep 1,000 military forces in Syria.

The figure represents nearly half of the forces the Pentagon claims are in the country supporting the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) against ISIS in eastern Syria and at the At Tanf garrison on the Iraq-Syria-Jordan border.

US troops remaining in Syria is at odds with US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's announcement in December of a full troop withdrawal.

The report added that the decision to keep troops in Syria comes as The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, Kurdish factions, Europe, and the United States have failed to establish a safe zone between Ottoman Turkish forces and the predominately-Kurdish SDF.

Additionally, the source reportedly told the WSJ that keeping 1,000 forces in Syria was required because European and regional allies have failed to pledge to deploy their forces in the country, thus allowing for a US draw down.

Dunford struck a positive note, claiming that military planning between Washington and their NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and structure....
allies in Ankara have been "productive."

"Further, we continue to conduct detailed military planning with the Ottoman Turkish General Staff to address Ottoman Turkish security concerns along the Turkey-Syria border. Planning to date has been productive and we have an initial concept that will be refined in the coming days," he added in his statement.

The SDF have repeatedly hinted that they are close to routing a remaining 5,000 ISIS fighters and their families from their final bastion east of the Euphrates in besieged Baghouz.

However,
denial ain't just a river in Egypt...
the final stage of Jazira Storm has dragged on since May 2018 and the SDF and coalition say they have slowed the operation because the Death Eaters are using human shields.

US Special Representative for Syria Engagement James Jeffrey said at the Munich Security Conference on February 17 that the US withdrawal would not be abrupt.

At least 157 dead in Zimbabwe, Mozambique as Cyclone Idai leaves trail of destruction
[Dhaka Tribune] Cyclone Idai killed at least 157 people in Zim-bob-we and Mozambique as it tore across Southern Africa, officials and state media said on Monday, and vast areas of land have been flooded, roads destroyed and communications disrupted.

The Mozambican port city of Beira has suffered massive damage, the Red Thingy said. The storm has also pounded Malawi.

"The scale of devastation in Beira is enormous. It seems that 90% of the area is completely destroyed," said Jamie LeSueur, leader of the International Federation of Red Thingy and Red Islamic Thingy Societies team there.

In Zim-bob-we, the Chimanimani district has been cut off from the rest of the country by torrential rains and winds of up to 170 km per hour that swept away roads, homes and bridges and knocked out power and communication lines.

Zim-bob-wean information ministry official Nick Mangwana told Rooters the number of confirmed deaths throughout the country was now 89. The body count is expected to rise.

The Mozambican state news agency put the corpse count in Beira at 68, although television channel TVM reported that about 84 people had died across Mozambique.

Zim-bob-wean rescuers were struggling to reach people in Chimanimani, many of whom have been sleeping in the mountains since Friday, after their homes were flattened by rock falls and mudslides or washed away by torrential rains. Many families cannot bury the dead due to the floods.

The Harare government has declared a state of disaster in areas affected by the storm, the worst to hit the country since Cyclone Eline devastated eastern and southern Zim-bob-we in 2000.

i ‐ the man who exposed the 2012 Kohistan video scandal and was rubbed out earlier this month after years of fighting the menace of 'honour' killings ‐ have demanded of the authorities to ensure their security and means of livelihood.

And while Afzal's death has left his family members in more peril than before, that has not shaken their resolve to continue his work.

Speaking to Dawn, the two brothers of Afzal ‐ who were featured in the video that led to the honour killings of five women ‐ said Afzal had been the sole breadwinner of their family. With him gone, the future of 18 orphans and widows whom he was looking after is in jeopardy.

"We are scared. After Afzal was killed, our rivals threatened us and told us to prepare ourselves, saying 'we are next'," said Gul Nazar, one of the two brothers.

"They want to remove all traces of our family from here."

"All other victims died silently, it was only Afzal that unmasked [the perpetrators] in national and international media," he added.

Nazar said their fear has been compounded because their rivals are much more influential than his own family. "They own around 250 houses, while we own just four in the Gadar village of Pallas," he said.

"Afzal was fighting for the slain girls, his own brothers and for our security in the Pak courts," said Bin Yasir, the second of Afzal's surviving brothers.

"We never went out of the house since we were first accused in the case. Later, we were jugged

for six months and bailed out. Since then, we have spent the last seven years in stress and fear. We and our families have been confined to living like refugees in the hilly area of Battagram district," he added. Afzal's death had forced Bin Yasir to take the risk of appearing before media for the first time.

Donna Brazile: Why I am excited to join Fox News and take part in a civil - and sensible - debate
Fire Judge Janine, hire Donna Brazile?
[FoxNews] I am excited by the opportunity to share my perspective and views with the Fox News audience and to help shape the dialogue at this important juncture in our history. More importantly, I'm eager to learn from the experience.

The 2020 presidential election is a consequential moment in American democracy. Everything we believe in as Americans will be examined and, in essence, ratified by our votes. But it concerns me, as it does the majority of good Americans, that our national debate has become hostile and disrespectful. We no longer simply agree to disagree. Too often we demonize the intentions of others. Our lines of communication are frayed, if not broken.

In order for us to best decide as a people how to better protect and preserve our way of life, we need to first be able to hear what others are saying without the filter of bias and contempt. Not until we once again become practiced at treating those of differing views with civility and respect can we begin to join together to solve the myriad of problems our country must overcome.

I fully admit that in my previous lives as a campaign staffer, presidential campaign manager and Democrat Party official, my own lack of civility in the heat of battle has been on full display. And it wasn't pretty. I should have been wise enough and humble enough to have listened to my mother, Jean, who so often would tell me, the third of nine children, to shut up and allow my siblings to speak, and to listen - really listen - to what they had to say. She knew I wasn't listening so much as I was pausing before launching again into an argument. My mother tried to teach us Brazile kids a lesson we all need to heed as citizens: Listen more, talk less. Be civil to one another. Find common ground. Contempt is hatred towards others. These are the lessons and the attitude I will bring to Fox News.
Given your self-described history, my dear, it isn’t likely you’ll be able to sustain that attitude for very long. But it’s nice that you recognize the need, hypocrisy being the compliment that vice pays to virtue.

Bodies of two doctors missing for 5 days found with gunshot wounds in Fatehjang
[DAWN] The bodies of two doctors who had gone missing last week have been found from a dam in Fatehjang tehsil of Punjab's Attock district, police said on Monday.

The bodies of Dr Iftikhar Ahmed and Dr Aziz Ahmed bore gunshot wounds and signs of torture, according to police, who suspect the involvement of their employees in the murders.

Three men have been tossed in the clink
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
in connection with the double murder.

As per the First Information Report (FIR) registered when the two doctors went missing on March 13, Dr Iftikhar, who lived in the United States, owned some land in Fatehjang and had delegated Dr Aziz to look after the property.

While on a visit to Pakistain, Dr Iftikhar and Dr Aziz had on March 13 drove from Islamabad to Fatehjang to oversee work being done on the said property, which is located in the Ali Jahangir area.

The duo had subsequently gone missing on the same evening during their commute back to Islamabad. An FIR was registered at Fatehjang cop shoppe on abduction charges.

On Monday, their bodies were recovered from a small dam in Dhok Suba and were subsequently shifted to hospital for a postmortem examination.

Although the two doctors belonged to a religious minority community, police have dismissed reports that their murders were a hate crime.

Speaking to DawnNewsTV, Fatehjang Station House Officer Abid Munir said Dr Iftikhar owned 46 kanals of farmland in Fatehjang, which he wanted to sell.

He said it had transpired during the initial police investigation that after coming to know of the dear departed's plan to sell the land, three of his employees hatched a plan to murder the doctors.

According to the SHO, the three employees, who worked at the property, first murdered Dr Aziz and then forced Dr Iftikhar on gunpoint to sign an affidavit to transfer the ownership of the land in their names. They subsequently shot Dr Iftikhar in the head, the police officer said.

The suspects then dumped the two bodies in a small dam near the farmhouse and covered them with sand.

All three of the suspects have been arrested from Beautiful Downtown Peshawar

, SHO Munir said, adding that their four-day remand was obtained from a local court on Monday.

He said police have also recovered the stamp paper that the suspects had Dr Iftikhar sign, while efforts are underway to recover the weapon used by them to murder the two doctors.

Iranian border guard killed in clashes with armed group in Kurdish region
[Rudaw] Iranian security forces twice clashed with gangs in the border area with the Kurdistan Region in a space of a week raising the possibility of increasingly tension at a time that Tehran and Washington are competing for influence in Iraq and the Kurdistan Region.

One Iranian border guard was killed on Sunday night in a clash with a group of gunnies near Baneh city in the western Kurdistan Province, the commander of the border guards in the province said.

"The border guards clashed with a number of armed bandidos who intended to carry out subversive activities inside the country," Commander Kiumars Sheikhi of the border guards in the Kurdistan province told Tasnim news. "We have found traces of these armed bandidos and we are pursuing them."

In a separate incident on Friday night, a Kurdish group clashed with border guards near the western city of Marivan which lasted half an hour with no casualties reported. No Kurdish group grabbed credit for the attack.

Iran has several hundred kilometers of mostly non-existent borders with the Kurdistan Region of Iraq and Tehran has historically attached critical importance to this region. Iran has repeatedly protested to the Kurdistan Regional Government (KRG) and its two ruling parties to stop Kurdish opposition groups from using their territory to deploy fighters to inside Iran.

The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Israel and the United States are supporting the Kurdish opposition groups, but the Kurdish groups say they are struggling for greater rights for the Kurdish minority which number over 8 million within Iran.

Peshmerga fighters of several armed Kurdish opposition groups ‐ headquartered in Iraqi Kurdistan since the 1990s ‐ often clashed with Iranian security forces including the Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps (IRGC) until last September when IRGC targeted two camps in Iraqi Kurdistan belonging to two of the main Kurdish groups. The missile attack came after three years of festivities between fighters of Kurdistan Democratic Party of Iran (KDPI) and Iranian security forces in which dozens of fighters from both sides died.

In the latest clash on Sunday night, one border guard was killed, commander Sheikhi said without specifying which Kurdish group was responsible for the clash. Iran has been fortifying its border area with Iraqi Kurdistan by constructing roads to the mountain tops and launching large scale clearing operations via artillery, drones and thousands of troops to stop infiltration of Kurdish groups into the country.

While a number of minor festivities have occurred since the missile attack on the Kurdish camps in September, the latest attacks could raise tension between Tehran and Erbil if claimed by the Kurdish opposition groups based in the Kurdistan Region.

The corpse count following this attack is still unknown.

This attack comes on the first anniversary of the rebel takeover of the Afrin region from the Kurdish-led People’s Protection Units (YPG).

Since capturing Afrin last March, the Ottoman Turkish military and their rebel allies have turned the region into one of their main strongholds in northern Syria.

Furthermore, the Ottoman Turkish military has recently announced the opening of a new border crossing that links the Hatay Province with the Afrin region’s Jandaris District.

Algeria's Bouteflika confirms to stay president after term ends
[PULSE.NG] Algerian President Abdelaziz Bouteflika
... 10th president-for-life of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and is currently on his third or fourth term. Maybe it's the fifth....
on Monday confirmed he will stay in power beyond his term expiring next month, despite tens of thousands of people demonstrating against his rule.

Bouteflika announced on March 11 he was withdrawing from his bid for a fifth term, initially sparking elation among protesters before they realised he would be remain in office beyond his term.

The ailing 82-year-old also scrapped the election set for April 18 and announced he was rolling out reforms through a "national conference".

Rarely seen in public since a 2013 stroke, Bouteflika issued a statement on Monday which confirmed his new plan would see him stay in power for months beyond the expiry of his term on April 28.

"(I hope) that Algeria experiences, in the near future, a harmonious transition and assists handing over the reins to a new generation," he said in the statement carried by state media.

"This is the ultimate goal that I have committed to making a reality before the end of my presidential mandate, at your side and at your service," added Bouteflika, who has ruled Algeria for 20 years.

While Bouteflika has given no timetable for his national conference, he said the shake-up of Algeria's "political, economic and social systems" would start "in the very near future".

A constitutional review would be put before a referendum, he said, which would be "a prelude to a new electoral process that will see the election of a new president."

Heavy clashes breakout between HTS and Ahrar Al-Sham in southern Idlib

Europe
France bans some yellow vest protests in Paris after riots
[AlAhram] La Belle France's prime minister announced a ban Monday on yellow vest protests along the Champs-Elysees Avenue in Gay Paree and in two other cities following riots on Saturday that left luxury stores ransacked and charred from arson fires.

Prime Minister Edouard Philippe said the ban will apply for an unspecified period in the neighborhoods that have been ``the most impacted'' in the cities of Gay Paree, Bordeaux and Toulouse
...lies on the banks of the River Garonne, half-way between the Atlantic Ocean and the Mediterranean Sea. The Toulouse metropolitan area is the fourth-largest in La Belle France...
, where repeated destruction has occurred since the yellow vest protest movement began in November.

He also said Gay Paree police chief Michel Delpuech will be replaced this week by prefect Didier Lallement.

Philippe announced the measures following a meeting with French President Emmanuel Macron and top security officials that sought to avoid a repeat of Saturday's violence, in which rioters set life-threatening fires, ransacked luxury stores and attacked police around the Champs-Elysees. Many of those high-end boutiques remained closed on Monday, some of them charred from arson fires set.

He acknowledged ``dysfunction'' in French police operations on Saturday, rejecting ``inappropriate'' orders given to security forces to use fewer rubber bullets following a controversy about the numerous injuries they've caused at previous protests.

Philippe also announced a shift in security strategy to allow police forces to have a greater initiative on the ground to take measures against rioters and disperse crowds. He said police will use new tools, including drones and video surveillance, to help preventing violence and send rioters to trial.

``When a protest has been banned and its aim is to ransack and loot, all of those who take part it in and, in fact, protect looters, encourage them or glorify them online, are complicit and will have to face the consequences,'' he said.

Philippe promised ``nothing will change'' for other peaceful, authorized protests.

The surge in violence came as the 4-month-old yellow vest movement, which is pressing for more economic justice, has been dwindling. Images of the destruction on Saturday_ including from a bank fire that engulfed a residential building and threatened the lives of a mother and child _ could further erode public support.

But the renewed attention energized some protesters, who took to social networks to call for new protests this Saturday to demand lower taxes and more support for workers.

The Finance Ministry held a meeting Monday with groups representing small businesses, restaurants, hotels, insurance companies and banks to estimate the economic impact of the protests.

The Gay Paree region's Chamber of Commerce said 91 businesses suffered consequences from Saturday's riot at the Champs-Elysees, 80 percent of which were severely damaged. It called for an ``emergency plan'' to support those shopkeepers and employees.

Last month the French Parliament passed a bill backed by Macron's government to further prevent violence during protests and to help authorities maintain order. But the ``anti-troublemakers'' law has not yet taken effect since the Constitutional Council must assess it first.

It would authorize regional prefects to prevent people seen as a serious threat to public order from protesting, and would force protesters involved in violence to pay for damages. It would also make it a crime for protesters to conceal their faces, punishable by up to one year in prison and a 15,000-euro ($17,000) fine.

The bill has been criticized by rights groups, opposition members and even members of Macron's centrist party as going too far in restricting freedoms.

Protesters sought to raise their profile Saturday to mark end of a national debate
... an expenditure of personal wind at the national level that leads to face-making and other histrionics but can't be shown to have ever solved an issue ...
that Macron had organized to respond to their concerns about sinking living standards, stagnant wages and high unemployment. Many demonstrators feel the debate didn't succeed.

Yet after offering French workers a series of economic concessions to address their complaints, Macron, the protesters' target, is now resurgent in the polls.

58 Soldiers Return Home After Crossing Border Into Turkmenistan
[ToloNews] Fifty-eight members of the Afghan Border Police, who crossed the border into Turkmenistan following heavy battles with Talibs, have returned home through the Torghundi Port in the western Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
province on Monday, the Ministry of Defense said in a statement.

The forces came under attack by Talibs in Bala Murghab district, which shares border with Turkmenistan, in the northwest of Afghanistan, almost two weeks ago. The battle, according to Ministry of Defense, continued for two weeks.

The ministry said women and kiddies also accompanied the soldiers when they crossed the border into Turkmenistan after they came under pressure by Talibs.

Another 58 members of the border forces, the ministry said, were captured by the Taliban
...Arabic for students...
"Search operations will continue until we release them," the statement added.

"From among 150 security force members, some of them surrendered to the Taliban due to the compulsion and some other were forced to flee," said Abdul Aziz Bek, member of Badghis Provincial Council.

"We are in a war situation. A war situation has its own words. It is true that one or two of our personnel are in the hand of the enemy, but we also have some of the enemies with us as hostages," said Noorullah Qaderi, Commander of Afghan Army’s 207 Zafar Corps.

Footage released by Ministry of Defense earlier this week shows an Arclight airstrike purportedly targeting Taliban hideouts in the district.

"They migrated to Turkmenistan alongside their families. They stayed in Turkmenistan for two days, but some of them had surrendered to the Taliban. We do not have any information about their fate," said Wali Shah Nayeb, an MP.

This comes a week after at least 20 Afghan security force members were killed in a Taliban attack in Badghis following a fierce battle with the hard boys.

Also on February, 15 Afghan security force members who had been captured by the Taliban were able to escape Badghis.

Syria regime will regain full control over territory: defense minister
[Rudaw] Syrian president Bashir al-Assad’s regime will regain full control over jihadist-held Idlib and northern areas controlled by the US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) "sooner or later", Syrian defense minister Ali Abdullah Ayyoub told news hounds Monday.

Following a meeting in Damascus with Iran and Iraq’s chiefs of staff, designed to strengthen ties between the three militaries, Ayyoub said the United States has only one card left to play in Syria ‐ the SDF.

"Preserving the unity of the Syrian state geographically and human-wise is not negotiable and not up for discussion," Ayyoub told a presser in the Syrian capital alongside Iran’s Mohammad Bagheri and Iraq’s Othman al-Ghanimi.

"The Syrian state will regain full control over all of its geography sooner or later, whether through reconciliation or military force. Idlib won’t be an exception at all," he added.

US forces are stationed in Syria illegally, Ayyoub said, unlike regime-backers Russia and Iran whose forces were formally invited by the Syrian government. He predicted the US would eventually leave.

"There won’t be any area of Syrian soil outside the government control," he added.

Syria’s northwestern province of Idlib is currently under the control of the former al-Qaeda affiliate Hay’at Tahrir al-Sham
(HTS). An estimated three million people remain inside the province, including thousands who fled former rebel bastions in Daraa and the suburbs of Damascus. A shaky truce brokered by Russia and opposition-backer The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the decaying remnant of the Ottoman Empire....
has so far prevented a bloody regime offensive.

Several northern areas, including the Kurdish canton of Afrin, are held by Ottoman Turkish forces and Ottoman Turkish-backed Syrian opposition groups. To the east of the Euphrates River, meanwhile, Kurdish parties have carved out an autonomous administration. Here the SDF is leading the ground war in Deir ez-Zor, near the Iraqi border, to uproot the last holdouts of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(ISIS).

Spooked by the prospect of an imminent US withdrawal, the Kurds of northern Syria (Rojava) have expressed a readiness to negotiate with the regime to secure some level of cultural autonomy should the regime retake the territory. Striking a deal with Damascus could prevent a feared Ottoman Turkish offensive.

The Syrian Democratic Council (SDC), negotiating on behalf of the Rojava Kurds, has said the regime appears unwilling to compromise. The regime meanwhile has accused the US of trying to sabotage negotiations.

"America and others will leave Syria as they have left other areas since their presence is illegitimate and rejected," Ayyoub told news hounds.

"As for what is related to the so-called SDF, the rationale of the state and citizenship stipulates for the sons of the homeland to stand by their state and army, irrespective of the existence of differing political visions, but it shouldn’t reach the point of carrying arms against the army dedicated to preserving the security of the homeland and citizen," he said.

The army will "liberate" areas east of Euphrates if the SDF shows it is unwilling to pursue reconciliation and heed the authority of the state, he added.

General Bagheri, the visiting Iranian chief of staff, told reports Tehran is prepared to stand by the Syrian government in its efforts to reassert control over every inch of Syrian territory.

Syrian President Assad has previously made it clear he intends to retake areas outside regime control and has threatened the SDF with military action if it refuses to accept rule from Damascus.

According to the SDF, 29 IS Death Eaters were killed and "a large quantity of weapons and ammunition" was seized from IS on Sunday.

ISIS launches last ditch counter-offensive using women and children fighters in Baghouz

[ALMASDARNEWS] The Islamic State (ISIS/ISIS/IS/ISIS) launched arguably their last counter-offensive to regain the territory they lost to the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) in the Baghouz area of eastern Deir Ezzor.

Backed by nearly 100 women and kiddies, the Islamic State stormed the Syrian Democratic Forces’ positions at the northern flank of the Baghouz Camp in a bid to force the latter to retreat from several areas.

According to preliminary reports, the Syrian Democratic Forces did retreat from some points after losing a half dozen fighters on Monday.

The reports said the Syrian Democratic Forces saw many women and kiddies dressed in their combat fatigues attacking their points during today’s battle.

The Syrian Democratic Forces will likely counter this Islamic State offensive in the coming hours as they hammer away at the terrorist group’s last bastion with both Arclight airstrikes and heavy artillery.

Due to their shortage of fighters, the Islamic State has begun using women and kiddies at the front-lines to help defend their last positions at the Baghouz Camp.

The Islamic State had previously prohibited women from fighting at any of their front-lines; however, due to a shortage in manpower and provisions, they have made an exception to this rule.

U.S.-Backed Force In Syria Claims To Hold Positions In Former-Isis Camp

[Jpost] U.S.-backed fighters said they had taken positions in Islamic State's last enclave in eastern Syria and air strikes pounded the tiny patch of land beside the Euphrates River early on Monday, a Rooters journalist said.

Smoke rose over the tiny enclave as warplanes and artillery bombarded it. Another witness said the jihadists had earlier mounted a counter attack.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) militia said in an update on Monday that tens of gunnies had been killed during what it called fierce festivities, and one SDF fighter had been injured. It said Islamic State had sent four jacket wallahs to points close to SDF fighters.

Late on Sunday, an SDF front man, Mustafa Bali, said on Twitter that several enemy positions had been captured and an ammunition storage area had been blown up.

An Islamic State front man said on Monday the displacement of "the weak and poor" from Syria's Baghouz would not weaken the group.

"Do you think the displacement of the weak and poor out of Baghouz will weaken the Islamic State? No," Abi al-Hassan al-Muhajer said in a recording distributed by Al Furqan, a media organization linked to Islamic State.

He added "the Islamic State will return, God willing, to the regions it left whether it takes a long or a short time."

In the recording al-Muhajer also said Islamic State leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi

Afghanistan
Airstrike targets group of Taliban militants involved in planning suicide attacks
[KhaamaPress] At least seven Talibs were killed in an Arclight airstrike which was carried out in the vicinity of Khogyani district of Nangarhar

Airstrikes target Taliban location disclosed in social media, leaving several dead
[KhaamaPress] Last night Twitter users posted to social media "#AFG Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
are 3 KM away from Tarin Kot the lovely provincial capital of Uruzgan."

Military officials in South of Afghanistan are saying that these tweets are a result of what appears to be a refute to the recent successful air strikes and joint Afghan Special Security Forces and 205th Corps operations in Uruzgan over the past two weeks.

Although these tweets seemed to be an announcement to an upcoming Taliban attack, what actually happened was another precision Arclight airstrike by the Afghan Air Force, the officials added.

"Eleven Taliban fighters were killed by Afghan Special Security Forces; five Taliban fighters were observed in a tactical formation in the open. The fighters were killed by one airstrike away from civilians in Tarin Kot district, " said the 205th Corps Spokesperson. "During the same operation six fighters were observed for several hours actively planning future attacks against Afghan National Defense Security Forces and civilians in the region. The fighters were killed by two separate airstrikes away from civilians in Tarin Kot district."

In the past two weeks, 76 Taliban fighters have been killed by on-going operations.

"We have seen significant effects from these operations, " said COL Abdul Wali, the 4th Brigade, 205th Corps Commander. "No matter what they say to the media, we have seen a drop in their ability to resource and coordinate attacks against ANDSF forces in the area. The recent operations have really hurt their formation."

China-Japan-Koreas
North Korea going nuts. Afraid of US air attack!
[Twitter] North Korea has been conducting air-raid drills in Pyongyang since last Thursday, after the summit with the U.S. in Hanoi, Vietnam collapsed late last month. The next day, the North's Foreign Minister Choe Son-hui warned the U.S. that the bilateral talks may be suspended.

The North also indicated that it may end the moratorium on missile tests that it claims has been in place for more than a year.

Radio Free Asia reported Saturday that North Korean authorities had been holding nationwide air-raid drills since Thursday to prepare for a U.S. attack. One source in Ryanggang Province told RFA, "Things had been quiet for a while with no air-raid drills or military exercises, but the drills resumed suddenly and created many difficulties for people."

"Authorities across North Korea are telling people to get ready for war preparations by the U.S. and South Korea," the source added.

Deputy Prime Minister Winston Peters protested on Monday that such politicisation of the massacre "imperils the future and safety of the New Zealand people and our people abroad, and it's totally unfair".

Peters announced on Tuesday that he would be travelling to Turkey this week at Istanbul's request to attend a special meeting of the Organisation of Islamic Cooperation.
