Bomb hits Afghan Chieu Hoi government official
[Bangla Daily Star] An Afghan provincial government official and former Taliban shadow governor from southern Kandahar was hit in a roadside kabooming yesterday, escaping with minor injuries, officials said.

Noor-ul-Aziz, director of religious affairs at Kandahar provincial government since he reconciled with the government, was travelling through the city at 11:30 am (0700 GMT) when his car struck a bomb.

"Noor-ul-Aziz Agha... has been maimed in a roadside kaboom kaboom," said the statement from the provincial government office.

Pakistan spied on German officers in Afghanistan: paper
Pakistain's secret service spied on German security forces in Afghanistan, raising fears sensitive information could end up in the hands of the Taliban, a German paper reported on Sunday.

Without citing its sources, mass-selling weekly Bild am Sonntag reported that Germany's BND foreign intelligence agency warned its interior ministry that Pakistain had spied on 180 German coppers deployed in Afghanistan to train locals.

The interior ministry told Rooters the BND suspected a German email had been intercepted but could not give confirmation. The ministry added it was not aware of any comprehensive interception of German police data.

Pakistain's interior and foreign ministries and military were unavailable for comment.

Bild am Sonntag said private telephone calls, messages to the ministry, military mission orders and lists of police officer names had been intercepted.

"On the basis of experience we must expect that the Pakistain intelligence agency ISI is continuing to give sensitive military information to the Taliban," Bild cited an unnamed Berlin security expert as saying.

The BND declined to comment on the report.

The United States has long suspected Pakistain, or elements within the ISI, of supporting myrmidon groups in order to increase its influence in Afghanistan, particularly after NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
troops leave in 2014.

Pakistain supported the Afghan Taliban before the Sept. 11, 2001 attacks on the United States. It was one of only three countries to have diplomatic relations with the Islamist group.

Citing security sources, Bild wrote that German coppers in Afghanistan have communicated in the past via non-secure means as they cost less.

"We have opened the floodgates to the enemy," Bild cited a high-ranking Berlin ministry official as saying.

Bild said shortly after the BND warning and before a visit by the German president to Afghanistan, the German police mission was equipped with brand new laptops with the latest software for secure communication.

The interior ministry confirmed the police laptops and broadcasting technology were tested and equipped with new software between Sept.13 and 23. A front man said this was a regular I.T.-checkup and was not linked to the spying claim.

Al-Shabaab says it killed 80 AU troops in blast
[Daily Nation (Kenya)] Two Al-Shabaab jacket wallahs blew themselves up yesterday at an Amisom base in Mogadishu and conflicting accounts indicate anywhere between three and 80 Ugandan soldiers were killed.

Following the attack, Al-Shabaab said today an American citizen of Somali origin was one of the two suicide bombers behind the attack.

Several pro-Al-Shabaab radio stations broadcast what they said were the last words of the attacker named as Abdusalam al-Muhajir who said that he "wanted to die as a martyr" after spending the last two years fighting alongside the beturbanned fascisti.

"I am an American citizen who grew up in the United States after my parents took me there at the age of two," he said in the message which was broadcast a day after the attack on an African Union base in the capital.

Sheikh Mohamed Ibrahim, a Al-Shabaab front man, said: "Two young and brave mujahideen warriors, one who came from the United States, led the holy attack that killed many enemies yesterday."

Late on Saturday, the bad boy group, which withdrew from the Somali capital in August, leaving a queasy security situation, claimed in a press statement that "the Mujahideen stormed an Amisom compound, killing 80 Ugandan soldiers."

Uganda army Commander, Lt Gen Katumba Wamala, last night confirmed that a lunch-hour suicide kaboom on AU troops took place but but said only three soldiers perished and two were seriously injured.

"Eighty soldiers dead; are they nsenene (grasshoppers)?" Gen Katumba asked when informed of the Al-Shabaab claims.

Military front man Felix Kulayigye said preliminary details show three soldiers died and an equal number injured; two seriously.

"Those injured have been flown for treatment to Nairobi Hospital," Col Kulayigye said. "An investigation is being carried out to know exactly how this attack happened."

UPDF declined to name the dead, and or injured, soldiers saying it needs to first notify their relatives.

There were varied claims about fatality figures. Mr Wafula Wamunyinyi, African Union deputy Special Representative in Mogadishu said by telephone that four Amisom soldiers were killed.

He said: "They approached the frontline and then went kaboom! their bombs. Four of the Amison soldiers was struck down in his prime and seven were maimed."

The AU in a press statement said the midday attack was executed by armed terrorists, including two suicide bombers disguised as Somali Army troops, who attempted to recapture an area near German Steel Factory which they lost two months ago.

It is understood the suicide kaboom triggered heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual light or sporadic fighting...
for control of the gateway to Industrial Road, an important city artery, which marks Mogadishu's northern border.

Amisom troops repulsed the bad boys, AU said.

Some sources in the area indicated that as soon as the kabooms inside the compound occurred, more faceless myrmidons in army uniforms appeared from nearby and immediately jumped in commandos' styles over the perimeter wall.

Al-Shabaab claimed that heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual light or sporadic fighting...
and the preceding suicide kabooms caused 100 deaths.

Arhab and Nihm Under Renewed Attack From Yemen Government
[Yemen Post] Tribal sources in the districts of Nihm and Arhab, outskirts on the capital Sana'a, said that government forces pounded the areas for the past consecutive 3 days without giving the population any respite.

Two civilians were reported killed in Arhab on Saturday.

Both districts are situated on the northern outskirts of Sana'a, the Yemeni capital and in direct alignment with the country's main International Airport.

Since the tribes announced their allegiance to the revolution, the government has been battling the tribal forces consistently.

Back in August, villagers were forced to flee to neighboring caves in order to escape the bombing and destruction, too scared that a shell would land on their loved ones.

Eyewitnesses confirmed today that the 62 Brigade which is stationed in the area received orders to launch an intense shelling attack onto the villages, regardless of the potential civilian casualties. So far 2 deaths and a dozen casualties were reported.

Residents called on for help as they say their properties and businesses were reduced to rubbles, adding that the regime was preventing ambulances and medical staff to reach the injured.

Government sources have explained that since Arhab and Nihm are so close to the Sana'a International Airport and have an almost direct access to the capital, president Saleh is determined to block any potential movement of troops towards the city, even if it meant destroying the area entirely.

Sanaa Airport Closes after Air Force Base Blasts
[An Nahar] Four kabooms rocked an air base in Sanaa on Sunday, setting two fighter jets on fire and prompting the closure of the Yemeni capital's international airport, aviation officials said.

"There were four kabooms at the air force base alongside the international airport and two fighter jets went up in flames," the official told Agence La Belle France Presse on condition of anonymity.

Sanaa international airport closed after the kabooms, another aviation official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

"The airport was closed right after the kabooms ... All flights have been re-routed to Aden," the south's main city, the official said.

Residents of the airport district area reported loud kabooms and massive flames and plumes of smoke.

There were no immediate reports of casualties and no claims of responsibility for an attack.

Sanaa has been the scene of deadly festivities between troops loyal to President President-for-Life Ali Abdullah Saleh
... Saleh initially took power as a strongman of North Yemen in 1977, when disco was in flower, but he didn't invite Donna Summer to the inauguration and Blondie couldn't make it...
, and dissident soldiers and armed rustics who have thrown their support behind protests that have rocked his regime since January.

Tens of thousands of demonstrators have risked their lives in near daily protests that have been met with force by pro-Saleh troops. Hundreds of people have been killed and thousands more maimed over the past nine months.

On Friday, marchers in Sanaa demanded Saleh go on trial over the killings.

"O men who love peace in the world, Saleh must face justice," chanted a crowd of 10,000 people that amassed after weekly Moslem prayers in Sittin Street, near Change Square, the epicenter of anti-regime demonstrations.

The opposition accuses the longtime president of nepotism and corruption, but the strongman has refused to step down despite pressure from Gulf nations and the U.N. Security Council.

Last Tuesday, Saleh told the U.S. ambassador in Sanaa that he is committed to a Gulf plan to step down, the State Department said.

State Department spokeswoman Victoria Nuland welcomed Saleh's remarks but said that he needed to live up to his promises, after a string of statements by the veteran leader voicing support for the plan without implementing it.

Saleh met with U.S. Ambassador Gerald Feierstein to discuss developments in Yemen after the Security Council and the United States both urged him to begin the transfer of power immediately, Nuland said.

Under the plan brokered by the Gulf Cooperation Council, Saleh would step down 30 days upon signing of the deal in exchange for immunity from prosecution.

French Police Fire Tear Gas to Break Up Turk-Kurd Clashes
[An Nahar] French police fired tear gas to break up festivities that erupted between Turkish protesters and supporters of the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in central Gay Paree on Sunday.

Around 150 young Turks waving their national flag and singing patriotic songs gathered on the Place de la Bastille to protest "terrorism in Turkey" after an attack by PKK rebels that killed 24 earlier this month.

Youths saying they were PKK supporters hurled stones and other objects at the gathering before police fired tear gas to disperse the Kurds.

One of the Turkish protest's organizers, Hakan Fakili, said that 10 people were maimed.

Turkey launched a wide army operation against the PKK after they carried out a series of attacks that killed 24 soldiers and injured 18 others in Cukurca town of Hakkari province near the Iraqi border on October 18.

The latest attack of the PKK caused the biggest loss for the army since 1993, when the PKK rebels killed 33 unarmed soldiers.

Clashes between the PKK and the army have escalated since the summer.

The PKK listed as a terrorist organization by Turkey and much of the international community took up arms for Kurdish independence in southeastern Turkey in 1984, sparking a conflict that has claimed some 45,000 lives.

Turkey's last ground incursion into northern Iraq, an autonomous Kurdish region, was in February 2008, when the army struck against the Zap region.

4 Killed in Pakistan Drone Strike
[One Pakistan] Pak officials say a suspected U.S. drone strike has killed at least four beturbanned goons in Pakistain's northwestern tribal region, near the Afghan border.

Authorities say the drone fired at least four missiles into a vehicle Sunday near the town of Datta Khel in the North Wazoo region.

U.S. officials have never publicly acknowledged the use of drone strikes inside Pakistain, but privately they have confirmed their existence to various news outlets. Pakistain has condemned the attacks as a violation of its illusory sovereignty, but the strikes are believed to be carried out with the help of Pak intelligence.

Egypt brokers another truce to halt Gaza fighting
(Ma'an) -- Egyptian officials have secured a truce to halt hostilities between Gazoo faceless myrmidons and Israel, Israeli TV said on Sunday.

Israel's channel 10 said the truce would begin at 10 p.m. Sunday.

A high-ranking Egyptian official, who was not named, said Israel would not be able to carry out a major military operation in the Gazoo Strip, as Egypt will not turn a blind eye to such actions, the TV channel's website said.

A previous truce, also brokered by Egypt, started 6 a.m. Sunday, but was followed by rocket fire and an Israeli Arclight airstrike that killed a member of DFLP's armed wing in Rafah.

#2  Maybe it would be better if the idiots had to broker their own truce instead of hiding behind the Egyptians.

"Looks like our latest rocket strikes were a bad idea again, Mahmoud."

"Well, call the Egyptians. It's better that they arrange another temporary rearming ceasefire than for us to admit it was stoopid."

Truce signed at 6 a.m., broken by Gazan rockets within hours
(Ma'an) -- A truce secured through Egyptian mediation early on Sunday failed to end cross border violence between Israel and the Gazoo Strip.

The truce aimed to put an end to the violence which had killed nine Paleostinian gunnies and an Israeli civilian on Saturday.

, which was at the forefront of fierce cross-border fighting on Saturday said that Egyptian intelligence officials helped broker a ceasefire due to take hold at 6 a.m.

Three rockets were fired at Israel after the 6 a.m. deadline for the truce, an Israeli official said. Two were intercepted by Israel's Iron Dome missile shield and another slammed into southern Israel causing no casualties or damage.

Israel's air force bombed an Islamic Jihad base in southern Gazoo on Saturday afternoon, killing five senior operatives and drawing Paleostinian rocket salvoes that killed an Israeli civilian.

Four more fighters from the al-Quds Brigades were killed in separate strikes.

Medical front man Adham Abu Salmiya identified two of them as Sami Abu Sabt, 21, and Suleiman Abu Fatima, 25, both members of Islamic Jihad's armed wing.

The Paleostinian civil defense managed to recover the bodies of two other Paleostinians killed in Israeli Arclight airstrikes late Saturday. They were later identified as Suheil Jundieh and Murdi Hajjaj.

One of some 30 rockets and mortar bombs fired at Israel killed a man in the city of Ashkelon. Two other people were maimed.

Israel kept schools shut in its southern region on Sunday as a precaution against further rocket fire, while hundreds of thousands of civilians within 40 km of Gazoo were urged to stay indoors.

Richard Miron, the front man for UN special envoy for the grinding of the peace processor Robert Serry, said the recent escalations "are very worrying."

Miron said Saturday in a statement received by Ma'an that "it is vital to de-escalate now, without delay. We strongly appeal for calm and an end to the violence and bloodshed."

Islamic Jihad said a commander, Ahmed al-Sheikh Khalil, and four comrades who had overseen production of bombs and rockets were killed in Saturday's Israeli strike on the base. Two other fighters were maimed.

Islamic Jihad vowed Dire Revenge™, a call echoed by smaller groups in the coastal territory.

"There is no chance of speaking about a truce now, following such a big crime against leaders of the group," Islamic Jihad front man Abu Ahmed said on Saturday.

and Fatah-aligned al-Aqsa Martyrs Brigades, grabbed credit for most of Saturday's rocket fire.

Israel demanded international intervention to stop the Paleostinian attacks.

Hamas last week repatriated an Israeli soldier it seized in 2006 in exchange for the release of more than 1,000 nabbed Paleostinians. There were no claims of any Hamas involvement in Saturday's violence.

Zuhri gained notoriety in 2006 when he dropped his money belt containing somewhere between 640,000 and 900,000 euros, which was confiscated by Paleostinian security and customs officials at a routine border crossing from Egypt to Gazoo. The news brought competing Hamas and Fatah forces to the crossing checkpoint for an epic face-making and hollering contest...

Israeli killed as a result of rocket barrage on southern Israel
Some 20 rockets and mortar shells were fired from Gazoo into southern Israel on Saturday, killing one man and wounding four others.

Man wounded in Ashkelon rocket strike dies of his wounds; some 20 rockets, mortars fired from Gaza into Israel; IDF kills five Islamic Jihad militants just hours before rocket attack, then kills two more in retaliatory strike.

thugs.

Rockets were fired from Gazoo into Ashdod, Ashkelon, Gan Yavne, and around Be'er Sheva. One man was seriously maimed in Ashkelon and eventually died of his wounds. Another man was moderately maimed in the Ashdod rocket strike and three others were lightly hurt. Moreover, 17 trauma victims were reported.

As a result of the escalation, classes were canceled in Ashdod, Ashkelon and other towns in the 40-kilometer range from Gazoo. Ben Gurion University in Be'er Sheva also called off classes, which were due to begin on Sunday.

The Israel Defense Forces responded to the rocket fire by carrying out another air strike on Gazoo thugs, and according to Paleostinian sources, two more snuffies were killed as a result.

The IDF Spokesperson issued a statement Saturday confirming an Israel Air Force strike on Gazoo snuffies who were firing rockets into Israel.

On Saturday afternoon, four rockets went kaboom! in Ashdod, one directly hitting a residential building and lightly wounding a man. Another rocket hit a school, but caused no casualties.

An hour afterward a rocket hit an Ashkelon home, seriously wounding a man who was transferred to Barzilai hospital where he later died of his wounds.

One rocket went kaboom! in Gan Yavne, lightly wounding a 40-year-old man who sustained shrapnel wounds to his legs. Several trauma victims were also reported.

A short time later, a Qassam rocket fell in Hof Ashkelon Regional Council, and three mortar shells landed in an open area in the Eshkol Regional Council, causing no casualties or damage.

After several hours, two more rockets went kaboom! in an open area west of Be'er Sheva, and no casualties were reported.

Yigal Cooper, a resident of the Ashdod building that was hit, said that the city was in panic.

"We knew there would be more kabooms so we went into our protected spaces. The whole building shook and we panicked. We waited for several minutes before coming out, and then I saw that my car had burned down."

Following the kabooms, head of the Gan Yavneh local council, Dror Aharon, said, "We heard an kaboom one minute after the siren sounded. Damage has been caused to a number of vehicles and houses."

The council head said the maimed man is Chaim, who heads the parent committee at one of the community's schools. According to Aharon, Chaim ran outside to see if anything had happened to his son, and was maimed in his leg. He then ran home, and a Magen David Adom ambulance took him to a hospital.

"We have been demanding protected areas for some time now. This kind of reality could repeat itself tomorrow. We will evaluate the situation with the Home Front Command later on in the evening with regards to whether school will be held tomorrow," said Aharon.

An alarm sounded throughout Ashdod prior to the kabooms, just hours after Israel Defense Forces soldiers killed a commander of the Islamic Jihad and four of its munitions experts.

According to IDF sources, the strike was targeted at the cell responsible for launching a Grad rocket that went kaboom! in Ashdod earlier this week.

Paleostinian sources say the strike occurred near the Al-Sultan neighborhood, near the former Israeli settlement of Atzmona. Sources also said the strike killed commander Ahmed al-Sheikh Khalil and four senior comrades who oversaw the manufacture of bombs and rockets for the faction.

In the wake of the strike, the organization said a response would come "deep into Israeli territory."

2 Syrians Dead as China Urges End to 'Dangerous Situation'

proposal for Assad's regime to hold talks with dissidents, some of whom he met during his visit to Damascus.

"Syria has to show some flexibility in that regard in order to help the vaporous Arab League implement its proposal," he said, when asked whether he believed Assad's regime should negotiate with overseas-based dissident groups.

China, along with Russia, vetoed a Western-drafted resolution at the U.N. Security Council on October 4 that would have threatened Assad's regime with targeted sanctions if it continued its campaign against protesters.

Asked whether China would veto further resolutions if the regime continued its crackdown, which the U.N. says has killed more than 3,000 people, Wu said he warned Syrian officials of the dangers of the continuing unrest.

He added that the "international community must respect Syria's illusory sovereignty" and that China "would continue its efforts internationally and in the Security Council to find a solution."

Asked whether China would raise the pressure on Assad, he said: "At this time we must concentrate on ending the bloody festivities" through the Arab League's efforts.

Wu's remarks came as an Arab League team was due to hold talks with top Syrian officials later on Sunday.

The Arab ministerial delegation led by Qatar aims in the Doha talks to try to reach "serious results and an exit to the Syrian crisis," a statement said.

In talks in Damascus last week, the Arab ministers warned Assad to stop the bloodshed and start meaningful reforms or face an international intervention, the Kuwaiti daily Al-Qabas reported on Sunday.

Citing well-informed Arab sources, the paper said the delegation told Assad on Wednesday that failure to resolve the crisis within the Arab fold would mean "internationalizing" the unrest.

"This would mean Syria should expect a foreign intervention and a painful international blockade on the economy and other aspects," the daily said.

The Doha talks come as Syrian activists put mounting pressure on the Arab League to suspend Syria's membership in the 22-member bloc.

"Assad's militias have been killing us for eight months. They arrest us and crush us ... And you, Arabs, who love rhetoric, what are you doing," the Syrian Revolution 2011, one of the motors of dissent, said in a post on its Facebook page.

The activists called for protests across Syria on Sunday calling for the League to "freeze the membership" of Syria.

group said.

Gunfire from a security checkpoint in the Deir Balaa neighborhood of Homs city maimed another 10 people, some of them critically, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights told Agence La Belle France Presse.

On Saturday in Homs, 20 Syrian soldiers were killed and 53 maimed in festivities with presumed army deserters, while 10 security agents and a deserter were killed in a bus ambush, the Britannia-based watchdog added.

It said at least 12 civilians also died from sniper or machinegun fire in the province.

Funerals were held on Sunday for eight of the security force personnel killed the previous day, state news agency SANA said.

Arabs Propose Plan to End Syria Unrest

response on Monday, Qatar's foreign minister told news hounds.

An Arab ministerial team "agreed on a serious proposal to stop the killing and all forms of violence in Syria," Sheikh Hamad bin Jassem al-Thani told news hounds after more than three hours of talks in Doha between a group of Arab foreign ministers and a Syrian team led by their Syrian counterpart Walid Muallem.

"The Syrian delegation has said they would respond tomorrow," he said.

In response to a warning from Assad that any Western intervention in Syria would inflame the region, Jassem said the risk was if Syria failed to take "concrete steps" to stop the violence.

"The entire region is at risk of a massive storm," he said, warning against any "procrastination and maneuvering."

"What is required of Syria ... is concrete steps that could avoid what happened to other countries," Sheikh Hamad said, in apparent reference to the conflict in Libya.

Assad has warned that Western intervention in Syria would cause an "earthquake" across the Middle East, Britannia's Sunday Telegraph newspaper quoted him as telling one of its journalists.

The talks in Doha were bolstered by strong support for the bloc's mediation efforts from China, one of two governments with Russia which earlier this month vetoed U.N. Security Council action against Damascus

China threw its weight behind the Arab mediation effort, with its Middle East envoy Wu Sike saying he had told Assad in Damascus on Thursday that his regime's deadly crackdown on dissent "cannot continue."

Wu said Assad's regime must "respect and respond to the aspirations and rightful demands of the Syrian people," and abandon the crackdown that has killed more than 3,000 people since mid-March, according to U.N. figures.

China, along with Russia, vetoed a Western-drafted resolution at the U.N. Security Council on October 4 that would have threatened Assad's regime with targeted sanctions if it continued its campaign against protesters.

Assad told Russian television on Sunday he expected continued support from Moscow, less than month after President Dmitry Medvedev told the Syrian strongman for the first time to either accept political reform or bow to calls for his resignation.

"First and foremost, we are relying on Russia as a country with which we are bound by strong ties, in the historic perspective," Assad told Moscow's Channel One television.

The Syrian foreign ministry accused the Arab ministerial delegation of stoking dissent, having been influenced by "lies spread by television channels."

It said that in Sunday's talks in Doha, Muallem would inform the delegation of the "true situation in Syria," the official SANA news agency reported.
