NDS Seize 2 BM1 Missiles in Kabul
[Tolo News] Afghanistan's National Directorate of Security (NDS) discovered and neutralized two BM1 missiles in PD8 in Kabul city over the Eid-ul-Fitr holidays, officials confirmed on Monday.
Going by the pictures at Tolo's site, they look like they might be Neanderthal workmanship.
Googles sez they are 122mm 9K51 BM-21 rockets, which appeared to have been buried for some time. Maybe to use as a IED. Dunno, what's in their hearts.
In a statement issued by the NDS, officials said this was a major achievement as the find has prevented a major attack on the city.

No further details were given and no arrests have yet been made.

Libya jets sink ship, hit another
[ARABNEWS] Libyan warplanes sank one ship and attacked a second vessel on Sunday near the eastern city of Benghazi, military spokesmen for the country's internationally recognized government said on Monday.

There was no independent confirmation for the strike near the town of Mareesa, the latest attack on ships in Libya where two governments and parliaments are fighting for control years after the toppling of Muammar Qadaffy
...a proud Arab institution for 42 years, now among the dear departed, though not the dearest...
"The vessel was sunk because it had loaded fighters, weapons and ammunition to support terrorism in the eastern region," air force front man Nasser Al-Hassi said early on Monday.

Mohammed El Hejazi, a front man for Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, top army commander of the internationally recognized government based in eastern Libya, said the strike had also targeted a second vessel which had been carrying weapons in the same area.

A military official in Mareesa said the vessels were only small ships like fishing boats coming from western Libya, which is controlled by a rival government challenging the official administration based in the east since losing Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...

"One boat was sunk, the other is burning," the official said, asking not to be named.

A Rooters news hound had heard planes on Sunday circling above Benghazi, which is about 20 km from Mareesa.

Tripoli-based state oil firm NOC has accused the eastern government of having three times bombed oil tankers that the eastern forces had said carried weapons and ammunition.

Egypt army conscript 'killed' in recent Sinai attack discovered alive
[Al Ahram] An army conscript who was pronounced dead after Saturday's terror attack by Islamist bully boyz against army posts in North Sinai has been discovered alive, Al-Ahram Arabic news website reported on Monday.

Mohammed Ibrahim Mostafa Moussa, 22, from Ra's El-Khalig village in Daqahliya governorate in the Nile Delta, was reported killed in a kaboom against a security checkpoint on Saturday evening near the town of Sheikh Zuweid.

Army and bully boyz faced off for hours in several locations near the town after the attack.

On Saturday night, the army announced four soldiers had died in the attack, then raised its corpse count to seven on Sunday.

However,
those who apply themselves too closely to little things often become incapable of great things...
late on Sunday, according to Ahram's correspondent in Daqahliya, Moussa made a phone call to his family to tell them he was alive, saying he was not at the checkpoint when the attack happened.

Moussa's whereabouts during the attack remains unclear, though some media reports claim he was hiding in a trench.

The young conscript will temporarily return home on "exceptional holiday," according to Ahram's correspondent.

Loyalists battle rebel holdouts in Yemen's Aden
[Al Ahram] Yemeni loyalist forces said they advanced Monday into the last district of the southern port city of Aden still held by Iran-backed rebels, seeking to flush out the remaining turbans.
Fighters from the pro-government Popular Resistance "have regained control of most of al-Tawahi district," including the presidential residence, said front man Ali Ahmehi.

The southern fighters also pushed the Shia Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. "A wide combing operation is under way to flush out" rebel holdouts, he said, adding that remaining snuffies had taken positions on several rooftops.

Loyalist forces backed by Saudi-led warplanes have regained control of most of Aden since an assault dubbed "Operation Golden Arrow" began on Tuesday.

Clashes have however continued despite the government's declaration on Friday of the city's "liberation" after four months of ferocious fighting.

Rebel bombardment on Sunday killed 57 civilians in the Dar Saad neighbourhood in the north of the port city, according to local health chief Al-Khader Laswar.

A Saudi-led Arab coalition launched an air campaign against the rebels in March after President Abedrabbo Mansour Hadi was forced to flee to Riyadh.

More than 3,200 people have been killed in the fighting -- many of them civilians, the UN says.

40 killed as army, Daesh clash in Iraq's Anbar province
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] At least 25 Daesh faceless myrmidons and 15 Iraqi security personnel were killed Sunday in separate incidents across Iraq's western Anbar province, according to Iraqi army and police sources.

Lieutenant-Colonel Ahmed al-Obaidi of the Iraqi army told Anadolu Agency that four Daesh faceless myrmidons -- including a prominent group leader and three fighters -- had been killed by a "secret faction of armed rustics" in Anbar's Kubaysah sub-district.

Iraqi army Colonel Ahmed al-Delimi, for his part, told Anadolu Agency that U.S.-led coalition warplanes had struck Daesh positions on the outskirts of Fallujah city and the Al-Saqallawiyah sub-district, leaving 21 faceless myrmidons dead and two armored vehicles destroyed.

A police source in Anbar, meanwhile, told Anadolu Agency that 15 security personnel had been killed when their convoy struck an improvised bomb planted by the holy warrior group in the Al-Tash area south of Ramadi city.

Although Daesh recently lost several parts of Iraq's Diyala, Ninawah and Saladin provinces, the group remains in control of most of Anbar, including quiet provincial capital Ramadi.

Prosecutors say two of the detainees are known to be top members of the ISIS who allegedly carried out a massacre last December in the Alam district of eastern Salahadin province. All the snuffies were earlier found guilty under the Iraqi Anti-Terrorism law No. 02 and 04 articles.

The runaways were sentenced by both Hilla court in Babil province and Sulaimani criminal court. The convicted ISIS members pleaded guilty and were handed over to Iraqi authorities for further persecution.

According to security officials, one of the criminals identified as Abu Hafsa Ansari holds a PhD in Islamic Studies and previously taught in Tikrit University. Ansari took an active part in massacring of fighters who belonged to the Sahwa militia, also known as The Sons of Iraq, an official said.

The source added that another jihadist who had spent five years in Camp Bucca prison, participated in Camp Speicher massacre in Tikrit in which some 1,566 Iraqi Air Force cadets were killed by ISIS in June 2014.

Authorities also identified an Al-Qaeda member who was detained in Abu Ghraib prison and traveled to the region with a fake ID card in 2013.

Hamas executes commander for leaking where terror chief was hiding
[IsraelTimes] Muhammad Shtiwi killed for allegedly revealing whereabouts of Muhammad Deif to Israel ahead of failed IDF strike last summer

A commander in the military wing of Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, was executed Monday for allegedly giving Israel information on the whereabouts of Hamas leader Muhammad Deif, Hamas sources said.

Muhammad Shtiwi had been under Hamas arrest since January for allegedly revealing the location of the shadowy terror criminal mastermind during last summer's Gazoo conflict, the TV report said.

Deif, 51, was targeted in an August 19 IDF strike on a home in the Sheikh Radwan neighborhood of the Gazoo Strip. Deif's wife and two children were killed in the bombing, but Deif survived, Israeli security sources confirmed several months later.

The Hamas sources said Shtiwi confessed to collaborating with Israel, and to other crimes including weapons sales to the rival Islamic Jihad
...created after many members of the Egyptian Moslem Brotherhood decided the organization was becoming too moderate. Operations were conducted out of Egypt until 1981 when the group was exiled after the assassination of President Anwar Sadat. The Israeli news site NRG said he was tortured during the months of his captivity. It said he was executed by members of the Hamas military wing, the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades.

Members of Shtiwi's family had demonstrated several times against the looming execution, including outside the home of Hamas's former Gazoo prime minister Ismail Haniyeh

, to no avail.

The long-time commander of Hamas's military wing, Deif is thought to have survived five Israeli liquidation attempts. In September 2002 he emerged, maimed, from the charred remains of a vehicle that was hit by an IAF missile. In 2006, he was maimed again, reportedly losing his limbs in an IAF strike.

As head of the Izz ad-Din al-Qassam Brigades, Deif is responsible for planning and executing a long string of terror attacks that have killed dozens or even hundreds of Israelis.

Assad forces make gains east of Daraa: sources
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syrian regime forces on Sunday have made gains in the eastern countryside of Daraa south Syria, taking control of three hills and district close to military airport, field source told Zaman al-Wasl.

The fresh advances made by Bashir al-Assad forces near the Jordanian border rang the alarm bells of rebels as regime army can easily hit their strongholds on the eastern front, activists said.

The army took control of Tel Hajer, Tel al-Sheikh Hussein, Mazraet al-Kuwaiti and neighboring district of al-Tha'leh military airport near Druze-dominated province of Sweida.

ِAlso, Syria air strikes pounded towns of al-Msaifra, al-Tiba, al-Karak and Om Walad towns in the eastern countryside of Daraa.

leader alongside five other foreign jihadists were killed in an air strike near the northeastern city of Hasaka, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights reported on Monday.

The Observatory, which gathers its information from an activist network on the ground, said the fighter jets hit a car carrying the foreign forces of Evil in a location near a village called Faouj al-Maylabeih in the southern countryside of the city.

The monitor said it was not clear whether the air strike in Hasaka province was carried out by the Syrian army or a U.S.-led coalition that is mounting a separate aerial campaign against Islamic State in Syria.

The United States said earlier this month it had intensified an aerial campaign against Islamic State in Syria with a wave of strikes in and around Raqqa city, the de facto capital of the Death Eaters' self-declared caliphate in parts of Syria and Iraq.

Syria's army says battles rebels near president's homeland
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Syria's army said on Sunday it had stepped up air strikes and retaken villages in a new offensive on Islamist murderous Moslems in areas close to President Bashar al Assad's ancestral homeland in the coastal province of Latakia.

Aerial bombardment had intensified over the past 48 hours in a bid to cut rebel supply lines in rugged territory close to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
's border, an army source was quoted as saying on state media.

Latakia province - home to Syria's biggest port and a stronghold of Assad's Alawite sect - has been a key battleground of the conflict, which is now in its fifth year.

Sunni Moslem jihadists, including al Qaeda's Syrian offshoot the Nusra Front, control many villages in the borderlands north of the government-held Mediterranean port city of Latakia and other areas dominated by Alawites, who follow an offshoot of Shi'ite Islam.

The army said five villages and hilltops, including Beit Khadour, Beit Zaifa, Tel alKhadar and Jabal al Rahmaliya, had been wrested back from the murderous Moslems, bringing it closer to the border areas.

The army had stepped up its campaign in the province since murderous Moslems took the strategically located town of Jisr al Shughour in April, strengthening their position in a mountain range that overlooks Alawite villages and close to Qardaha, hometown of the Assad family.

The rough terrain and heavy forests has allowed the Sunni jihadist rebels to resist heavy Syrian army shelling and withstand heavy aerial bombing, defense analysts say.

A Syrian army officer said the aim of the latest operation was to cut rebel supply lines from the Turkish border to the rebel held villages, including the town of Salma, that has been held by Nusra Front since 2012.

"These gunnies are weaker than to try to dare get close to Latakia," a senior army officer was quoted as saying in a report from the area by Lebanese Hezbollah's television al-Manar's correspondent.

Lieutenant Hussein Qentar, a former Syrian army officer who defected to join Syrian revolution, has been found dead near Anadan town.

Qentar, who is a member of Fatah Aleppo Command Room, was heading back to Anadan before being rubbed out by gunnies who left his body on the wayside.

Separately, Alaa Jolo, 24-year-old, was killed on Saturday by Turkish border guards near Hour Killis village.

Jolo was trying with his wife and daughter to cross the border illegally, activists said.

More than 230,000 people killed and over 12 million forced to flee their homes since the Syrian revolution erupted in March 2011.

Syria army targeting Lattakia villages: Turkmen group
[AA.TR] Two people were killed and at least 15 injured late Sunday when the Syrian army shelled a number of predominantly Turkmen villages in the northwestern Lattakia province, according to members of Syria's Association of Turkmen.

Members of the Istanbul-based association told Anadolu Agency that the Syrian regime had targeted Turkmen villages in Lattakia's Bayir Bujak area with missiles and mortars.

They also said festivities had occurred between Syrian regime forces and Turkmen fighters.

Turkmen are a Turkic ethnic group based largely in Syria and Iraq, who live alongside Arabs and Kurds. The Turkmen community, which includes both Sunni and Shia Moslems, shares close cultural ties with the Turkish people.

#4  ru article is interesting:

“The administrators in Ankara who hurl threats at the HDP and pat the heads of IS are partners in this barbarity,” said a statement by Selahattin Demirtas, the HDP co-chair.

The military wing of the Kurdish independence movement, the Kurdistan Workers’ party (PKK) accused the government of “supporting and cultivating” Islamic State (IS, formerly ISIS/ISIL), following the attack which killed at least 31 people and injured scores of others in the town of Suruc, on the southern border with Syria. The Kurdish parliamentary wing, the People’s Democracy Party (HDP) which increased its vote share in the parliamentary election earlier this summer, agreed, despite the Turkish government publicly condemning the suicide attack.

#8  Demographically the Kurds will own Turkey in a decade or two of something doesn't change. I've always felt the Turks would be wise to push for emigration to Kurdistan beyond their borders. I forget Turks are Moslems so logical/peaceful solutions do not compute.

Me thinks we should talk to the Ruskies about carving up some Turkey and giving the Balkin bits back to the Slavic nation of Russia's choice if they assist.

If I had to guess, I'd say Champ and Brennan haves dispatched their secret thrown benders [less Cuban/Persian team members] and the talks have been ongoing for some time.
