ICJ orders Pakistan to stay Jadhav execution
[Al Jazeera] The International Court of Justice (ICJ) has ordered Pakistain to stay the execution of an Indian national convicted of spying.

India approached the top UN court after Kulbhushan Sudhir Jadhav, a retired Indian naval officer, was sentenced to death by a Pak military court last month on charges of espionage and sabotage.

"Pakistain shall take all measures at its disposal to ensure that Mr Jadhav is not executed pending the final decision in these proceedings," the ICJ ruled in a unanimous and binding decision on Thursday.

Ronny Abraham, the Hague-based court's president, also asked Pakistain to inform the tribunal that it will implement the ruling, and stressed that ICJ decisions are binding on all state members.

The ICJ's rulings are final and binding. Yet, the court has no means to enforce its decisions and they have occasionally been ignored.

The hearings and, final decision, could take more many months, if not years.

Pakistain's government accepted the decision of the court, saying that the orders do not affect the current status of Jadhav's case as his execution was not imminent, given pending appeals.

Federal Police chief Shaker Jawdat said Thursday that his forces had also evacuated 270.000 civilians since operations launched in February 19th to retake western Mosul.

#3  hope that IS will flee and save Iraqi money and ammo I don't think that plan will work - ISIS has stood and fought...and has been beat down by the Iraqis at every turn over the past 8 months. The IA and IP are confident enough now to call their shots.

While regular Iraqi security forces engage in gruelling urban combat inside djinn-infested Mosul

, the paramilitaries have been advancing against Islamic State through thinly populated terrain to the southwest.

Last week, the paramilitary groups, known collectively as Popular Mobilisation Forces (PMF), or Hashid Shaabi, launched an offensive to retake the Qairawan district, around 95 km west of Mosul.

The Sahl Sinjar airbase is around 65 km east of the Syrian border.

"After rehabilitation, the air base will be an important base for Hashid troops and Iraqi helicopters to transport fighters and arms," said Karim al-Nuri of the powerful Badr Organisation.

"The air base will help chasing the snuffies in the open desert with Syria."

in Damascus on Thursday and discussed "close and direct" military cooperation against Islamic State along their shared border, Syrian state media said.

Unlike regular Iraqi security forces, the PMF does not receive support from the U.S.-led coalition, which is wary of Iran's influence over the most powerful factions within the body.

Paramilitary troops cut off IS main supply route in west of Mosul

Mosul (IraqiNews.com) The paramilitary troops have cut off the main supply route of the Islamic State in west of Mosul, according to the media service.

In statements, Al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) said troops “were able to cut off the street linking between Tal Qasab and Qairawan,” which is considered “the IS main supply route in north of Qairawan.”

Moreover, “the 40th brigade’s missiles shelled IS strongholds in al-Qahira, in south of Qairawan.”

Roads in villages of Tal al-Dala’ and Thara al-Karrah, located south of Qairawan, were combed after being liberated on Tuesday, the media service added. Huge losses were inflicted on the enemy near villages in north of Qairawan.

The troops also “received dozens of families fleeing IS from villages north of Qairawan,” according to the statement

Palestinian gunned down by settler in West Bank clashes
[Al Jazeera] A Paleostinian was killed by an Israeli settler during a clash near the city of Nablus in the occupied West Bank during protests in support of hunger-striking prisoners.

The clash near Hawara military checkpoint in the northern West Bank erupted on Thursday when an Israeli settler in a car attempted to pass through a crowd of Paleostinian protesters, with the settler and Israeli soldiers opening fire, Paleostinian security sources said.

The Paleostinian killed was identified by the health ministry as Muataz Bani Shemsay, 23, from a village near Nablus. He was shot in the head.

A photographer with The News Agency that Dare Not be Named news agency was also maimed by gunfire but was in stable, pH balanced condition, medics said.
The Times of Israel adds:
A spokesperson for the Samaria Regional Council said in a statement that it was the third day in a row of riots along the highway near Hawara.

According to a military spokesperson, “hundreds of Palestinians threw rocks at passing vehicles” during the violent demonstration.

A military jeep pulled up seconds after the man’s car came under attack, and the soldiers inside it quickly dispersed the crowd with tear gas and other riot dispersal means.
Update at 12:20 p.m. EDT. Ynet adds:
The Palestinian ambulance driver who blocked a settler vehicle from escaping a rioting crowd has been arrested by security forces. The driver was filmed exiting the ambulance and assaulting the settler's vehicle. The ambulance itself has been impounded.
And from The Times of Israel:
Between Thursday night and Friday morning, security forces also picked up one of the suspected rioters and impounded a bus that is believed to have been used to shuttle people to the violent protest in Hawara, outside Nablus, the army said.

Some of the Palestinians who participated in the riot had been brought to the area on organized buses, like the one that was seized early Friday morning, the army said.

Indonesia: 2 More MIT Militants Slain
[BENARNEWS.ORG] Two men killed in a firefight with security forces in Sulawesi have been identified as members of the Eastern Indonesia Mujahideen (MIT) bully boy group, local officials said Tuesday.

The gunbattle took place a day earlier when soldiers on a routine patrol encounted gunnies in a mountainous area of Poso regency so remote that civilians can reach it only after a four-day walk from the nearest village, officials said.

Two were rubbed out while the other men escaped, said Arif Darmawan, head of the Central Sulawesi Police Mobile Brigade Unit. One soldier was maimed, he said.

Central Sulawesi police chief Rudy Sufahriadi on Tuesday identified the two dead men as MIT members Barok, 38, and Askar, 30, of Bima, West Nusa Tenggara.

They were identified by MIT members who were captured in recent months, police said, and their bodies were taken to Bhayangkara Hospital in Palu, where DNA samples would be taken in hopes of locating their relatives.

President Joko "Jokowi" Widodo, who was in Palu on Tuesday to open a congress of the Indonesian Islamic Students Movement, instructed security forces to find the members of the banned outfit still on the lam.

Hundreds of security personnel have been on the ground in Poso regency since January 2015 in two joint army-police operations code-named Camar Maleo and Tinombala.

"(The president) expressed appreciation for the personnel of Tinombala Task Force and communicated that we should focus on finding the remaining (suspects)," Rudy told news hounds in the lovely provincial capital.

More than a dozen MIT members, including its leader, Santoso, were killed as a result of the operations in 2016, officials said. Santoso swore allegiance to the Islamic State

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
U.S.-Led Coalition Strikes Pro-Regime Convoy in Syria
[AnNahar] U.S.-led coalition aircraft Thursday struck a pro-regime convoy apparently transporting Shia bandidos gunnies in Syria as it headed toward a remote coalition garrison near the Jordanian border, U.S. defense officials said.

While officials stressed the defensive strike did not signal deepening U.S. involvement in Syria's civil war, it nonetheless raises questions about the ongoing feasibility for the coalition to maintain its singular focus on the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group.

In a statement, the coalition said the strike had occurred "well inside" an established de-confliction zone northwest of the At-Tanf garrison, where British and U.S. commandos have been training and advising local forces fighting IS.

"A convoy going down the road didn't respond to numerous ways for it to be warned off from getting too close to coalition forces in At-Tanf," a U.S. defense official told AFP on condition of anonymity. "Then there was finally a strike against the lead portion of that movement."

A second defense official told AFP the forces in the convoy appeared to have been Shia militia.

Attempts to stop the convoy included a call to the Russians -- who are working with the Syrian regime -- then a "show of force" in the skies above the vehicles, followed by warning shots.

The first official said the convoy was "significant" in size, but only the lead vehicles were hit.

Coalition officials said Russian forces had apparently unsuccessfully tried to dissuade the pro-regime movement south.

Describing the hours-long event as an "escalation-of-force situation," the official said it did not signal a strategic shift for the coalition, which remains focused on fighting IS group.

Yehya al-Aridi, a front man for the Syrian opposition High Negotiations Committee in Geneva, praised the strike.

"We welcome robust action against the foreign forces who have turned Syria into a killing field," he said. "Iran and its militias have kept (President Bashar-al) Assad in power. They cannot be allowed to wage war on our soil with impunity."

America has been militarily involved in Syria since 2014 but has for the most part avoided engaging directly in the country's civil war.

The biggest exception to this was a U.S. cruise missile attack on a Syrian airbase last month in response to a suspected chemical attack by the regime.

At-Tanf has been the target of repeated attacks in recent months.

Last month, U.S.-led allied forces and Syrian rebels thwarted a significant IS attack on the base.

And in June last year, Russian warplanes bombed the outpost, reportedly just one day after British special forces had pulled out.

group attacked several government-held villages in central Syria on Thursday, capturing at least one of them in violence that left 52 people dead including more than two dozen women and kiddies, some of whom had their heads chopped off, as well as Syrian troops, state media, medical officials and an opposition monitoring group said.

The attack in the central Hama province targeted villages where most residents belong to the Ismaili branch of Shiite Islam, raising fears the Death Eaters might massacre them, as they have in other minority communities in Syria and Iraq.

The villages are located near the town of Salamiyeh and the highway that links the capital, Damascus, to the northern city of Aleppo, but state media said traffic was not affected.

The attacks come as government forces are on the offensive against the Death Eaters in other parts of Syria, mostly in the northern province of Aleppo and the central Homs region and to the east. U.S.-backed and Kurdish-led forces are meanwhile marching toward the holy warriors' de-facto capital of Raqqa, in northern Syria.
