“On Wednesday, Peruzkhil and Sarkandeyan villages which were insecure were cleared of insurgents,” he said adding that “one policeman was killed and another injured during the operation after a roadside mine went-off.”

In the meantime, the residents of Tagab said that more than a thousand families have been displaced due the ongoing operation and they need emergency assistance.

Tripoli militia declares State of Emergency
There are unconfirmed reports tonight that one of capital’s leading militias, the Tripoli Revolutionaries’ Brigade of Haitham Tajouri, has declared a state of emergency following today’s apparent seizure of three ministries.

While Presidency Council head Faiez Serraj was in Cairo meeting Egyptian president Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Sisi, militiamen backing Khalifa Ghwell and his resurrected Government of National Salvation attacked the ministries of Defence, Labour and Martyrs’ Families, Wounded and the Missing.

PC spokesmen Ashraf Al-Tulty insisted that attempts to occupy the ministries had been seen off. Another PC source said that at least two of the buildings had been re-taken.

Nevertheless Ghwell broadcast this afternoon from what seemed to be the defence ministry. He said that the PC and the Government of National Accord had failed. Conditions had gone from bad to worse since they arrived. The Skhirat agreement was dead. The Libyan Political Agreement which had been imposed by foreigners was over. It was now time for a Libyan Libyan agreement.

“The National Salvation Government is open for cooperation with all military formations in establishing the state authority” he said, adding that what Libya needed was an end to armed militias.

It is also reported that Ghwell went to the labour ministry where all the employees had been gathered According to one of the people there, he told them to sit down and began speaking to them as if he were the prime minister. He asked about administrative problems and what the main issues were that they were facing.

Even if his militia followers have not held on to any of the ministries, Ghwell’s action today has further underlined the ineffectiveness of Faiez Serraj’s administration. Unpaid salaries, lack of cash at the banks, icy weather, floods, water shortages, power cuts, failing communications and collapsing security would seem to make the PC’s position increasingly desperate.

Soddy kop shot in Dammam
Dammam – Security man, wearing plain clothes, was shot in Dammam by unknown assailants as the Eastern Region’s police announced the opening of investigations in the incident, which is considered the third of its kind during less than four months.
Is that the oil-rich strip populated by Shiites? Hmmm...
Security agencies started an investigation to find out reasons behind this incident and evidences, especially after the occurrence of two terrorist incidents in the city’s neighborhoods during the past period.

The police said that at 9.30 pm local time on Tuesday, Dammam police opened a case of shooting a security man, who was riding his own vehicle wearing plain clothes in Faiha neighborhood in Dammam.

However, neither the security man nor any of the pedestrians in the area were hurt.

Notably, the Saudi Ministry of Interior announced a list of nine wanted in Qatif for being involved in terrorist acts.

Investigations showed that they were involved in targeting security men as they were behind the martyrdom of six security men and the injury of three others in one of the companies.

In October 25, 2016, two Saudi security personnel were shot dead after they came under heavy gunfire from an unknown source while returning from their workplace in Ras Tanura province.

Belgium charges pair over fake papers for jihadist in Paris, Brussels attacks
[AlAhram] Belgian authorities have charged two people with supplying fake documents to an Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Death Eater involved in the November 2015 attacks in Gay Paree and who later carried out a suicide kaboom on the Brussels metro, prosecutors said on Thursday.

Belgian police detained a man and a woman in a house search on Wednesday, prosecutors said. The woman, identified as Meryem E. B., was released under strict conditions. The man, named as Farid K., remained in jug. He is also charged with participating in the activities of a terrorist organization.

"They are suspected of having provided Khalid El Bakraoui with the false documents later used in preparation for the Gay Paree attacks," prosecutors said in a statement.

Khalid El Bakraoui was involved in planning the attacks in Gay Paree on the evening of Nov. 13 2015 in which 130 people were killed. He then went kaboom! in the Brussels metro last March, as part of coordinated attacks that killed 32 people.

Bakraoui rented, under a false name, an apartment in the city's Forest borough where police hunting Gay Paree suspect Salah Abdeslam killed another suspected Death Eater in a raid weeks before the attacks in Brussels. He is also believed to have rented a safe house in the southern Belgian city of Charleroi used in preparation for the Gay Paree attacks.

Austria police investigate Afghans over New Year's sexual assaults

[Ynet] Austrian police are investigating six Afghan refugees rapefugees over sexual attacks on 18 women during New Year's Eve celebrations in the western province of Tyrol, a police officer involved with the case said on Monday. One man has confessed and apologised but the other five deny the accusations, Ernst Kranebitter of the Tyrol police force said, adding that police had made no arrests yet pending the end of their investigation.

The women reported that assailants had groped and tried to kiss them that evening as they stood in or near a crowded central square in the city of Innsbruck for a concert and fireworks display. Some women said they had been clasped by a man from behind while others groped their breasts and genitals.

Court backs Swiss that Muslim girls must attend swim class

[Ynet] Europe's court of human rights has rejected an appeal by a Turkish-born couple who were fined in Switzerland for keeping their daughters out of mixed-gender, mandatory public-school swimming lessons for reasons linked to their Muslim faith. The European Court of Human Rights decision upholds a Swiss federal court ruling that education officials had not violated the family's rights of freedom of conscience and religion in the case in Basel dating to 2008.
That's eight years ago. No doubt the girls never took a single class, but at least other little boys and girls won't have that option.
In a summary of the ruling announced Tuesday, the European court based in Strasbourg, France, acknowledged "interference" in freedom of religion but that public school had a "special role" in integration, particularly of children of foreign origin. Such issues of compulsory public education and religious belief have prompted similar cases in neighboring Germany and Liechtenstein in recent years.

Aid agencies sound alarm over freezing Balkans weather as migrant deaths reported

[AlAhram] Dozens of migrants are at risk of freezing to death in Europe after heavy snowfall and bitterly cold temperatures hit Greece and the Balkans, aid agencies said on Wednesday. Central and southeastern Europe have been gripped by freezing weather and snowstorms for days, with night-time temperatures dropping below minus 20 degrees Celsius (minus 4 Fahrenheit) in some areas.

The Missing Migrants Project, set up by the U.N. migration agency (IOM), has recorded 11 migrants deaths in the Mediterranean since the start of the year, including four who died of hypothermia at Europe's land borders with Turkey. In the past 10 days a Somali woman was found dead from suspected hypothermia in Bulgaria and an Afghan man died in northern Greece, while last Friday two Iraqi men were found frozen to death near the Turkish-Bulgarian border, according to local media reports compiled by the project.

Some 800 boat migrants rescued during break in weather: Italian coast guard

[AlAhram] Some 800 migrants were plucked from flimsy rubber boats on Thursday, Italy's coast guard said, as Libya-based people smugglers took advantage of a window of good mid-winter weather to send them to sea. Italian coast guard vessel Diciotti and two ships run by humanitarian groups, the Aquarius and the Golfo Azzurro, went to the rescue of a total of six rubber boats in international waters off the coast of Libya, the coast guard said.

Mathilde Auvillain, a spokeswoman for SOS Mediterranee which co-runs the Aquarius, said they aided a small wooden boat carrying 26 people, mostly Nigerians, on Wednesday, while 123 were taken off a rubber dinghy on Thursday. After several days of rough seas, weather conditions improved on Wednesday evening and were expected to remain calm until Friday evening, she told Reuters by telephone. Among the 149 rescued by the Aquarius were people from Nigeria, Sudan, Guinea, and Bangladesh, Auvillain said.

"We are expecting another long year. There's no sign that things are going to improve. So far this winter we have had no rest. We have not gone a full week without a rescue."

Last year a record 181,000 boat migrants, mostly from Africa, reached Italy. The majority paid Libyan people traffickers to make the journey.

France restricts travel for minors over jihadi trip fears

[Ynet] France's government has quietly backtracked on a policy that allowed children to leave the country without their parents' permission, after years of complaints from families of radicalized teens who left to join extremist groups.

The new rules requiring parental permission go into effect Sunday, five years after the government lifted the restriction with little fanfare, citing a need to streamline bureaucracy.

At the time, the war in Syria was picking up and France became Europe's largest source of recruits in the war zone, notably for the Islamic State group. Families said they were blindsided when their teenage sons and daughters were allowed to pass through border control no questions asked and even leave Europe's passport-free zone for Turkey.

Iraq
Mosul Offensive News

Iraqi militias receive reinforcements

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Large troop reinforcements arrived on early Thursday in western Mosul preparing for a new phase of operations by pro-Iraqi government militias against Islamic State militants.

A statement by the media service of al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) said the reinforcements arrived late Wednesday preparing for the “sixth phase” of operations in western Mosul.

Last November, al-Hashd al-Shaabi ended a fifth phase of their operations by retaking a military airbase and besieging the strategic IS stronghold town of Tal Afar. But news concerning the militias’ intention to invade the town were conflicting. Fears have been voiced by regional Sunni powers, such as Turkey and Saudi Arabia, that the involvement of the Shia-predominated al-Hashd in Tal Afar’s liberation could result into sectarian consequences with the Sunni residents of the town.

Since operations to retake Mosul launched in October, Iraqi forces, backed by an aerial cover from a US-led military coalition, have become in control over nearly 50 out of 84 districts in eastern Mosul, and commanders declared earlier this week they had reached the eastern bank of the Tigris River, which bisects the city. IS still maintains strongholds in the west.

Iraqi military media have put the number of IS militants killed since the launch of operations in October at at least 1757.

The conflict in Mosul has forced more than 173.000 civilians to flee homes in the city.

6 ISIS troops, including Big Turban die in Mosul airstrike

Nineveh (Iraqinews.com) A senior Islamic State leader was killed on Thursday along with companions when their camp was hit in an Iraqi army airstrike in central Mosul.

The strike on al-Amel district was carried out based on an intelligence tip-off, according to the defense ministry’s War Media Cell.

Federal Police also reported they have killed five IS suiciders after an attempted attack on the forces in Sumer district, which police recaptured earlier on Thursday.

Iraqi generals said recently they had reached the eastern bank of the Tigris River which separates the city’s east and west, and hope to recapture the east soon to move towards IS western hideouts.

Iraqi military media have put the number of IS militants killed since the launch of operations in October at at least 1757.

The conflict in Mosul has forced more than 173.000 civilians to flee homes in the city.

Iraqi militia troops capture villages in western Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Al-Hashd al-Shaabi (Popular Mobilization Units) recaptured a village in western Mosul from Islamic State militants on Thursday, the commander of joint security operations in Nineveh said.

Lt. Gen. Abdul-Amir Yarallah said PMU recaptured the village of Hajaf, south of Tal Abta, and raised the Iraqi flag at its buildings.

His announcement came hours after al-Hashd al-Shaai’s media reported the arrival of large military reinforcements to western Mosul as the troops announced starting a 6th phase of operations against Islamic State strongholds in western Mosul.

Last November, al-Hashd al-Shaabi ended a fifth phase of their operations by retaking a military airbase and besieging the strategic IS stronghold town of Tal Afar. But news concerning the militias’ intention to invade the town were conflicting.

93 ISIS troops now pining for the fjords in Mosul

Nineveh (Islamic State) 93 Islamic State militants were killed in airstrikes that targeted areas in eastern and western Mosul on Tuesday, security and local sources told Alsumaria News.

A security source said Iraqi army fighter jets killed 90 militants when they bombed the district of eastern Yaramja. They said two cannon-supplied trucks were destroyed in the strike.

In western Mosul, a local source said a drone pounded a vehicle driven by Islamic State militants, killing three, including a senior member in charge of the extremist group’s prison in the western region: a Mosul resident who became in charge just two weeks earlier.

Iraqi joint government forces, backed by fighter jets and advisers from a US-led military coalition, have been carrying out a major campaign since October to retake Mosul, IS’s last urban stronghold in Iraq which fell to the group in 2014.

Forces have recently reached the eastern bank of the Tigris River which bisects the city, becoming in control over more than 70 percent of that area, and hope to move forward to the west, were militants still control several strongholds.

Conflict in the city has forced 173.000 civilians to flee to refugee camps, and the existence of civilians has proved to be a remarkable hindrance to a faster pace of operations.

Security forces capture Salam district in Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) We Are Coming, Nineveh Operations Command announced on Thursday liberating al-Salam District in the eastern side of the city of Mosul.

Lieutenant General Abdel Amir Yarallah, Commander of Operations, said in a press statement, “Federal Police’s Rapid Intervention Forces liberated al-Salam District in the eastern side of Mosul, and raised Iraqi flag over its buildings.”

“The security forces inflicted heavy material and human losses on the enemy,” Yarallah added.

Earlier today, We Are Coming Nineveh Operations Command announced liberating the areas of Somer and Saheroun, in the eastern side of Mosul.

Iraqi militia group captures 3 villages in Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A security source in Nineveh Province revealed that the forces from al-Hashd al-Shaabi managed to liberate three villages in Tal Abta, in western Mosul, and kill several terrorists, Alsumaria News reported on Thursday.

The source said, “Forces from al-Hashd al-Shaabi managed, today, to liberate the villages of al-Hayaniyah, al-Tal al-Janoubi and al-Hajaf in Tal Abta area, in western Mosul.”

“Security forces also managed to remove improvised explosive devices from the villages and kill several terrorists,” the source further added.

Earlier today, security forces liberated al-Salam District in eastern Mosul, and raised Iraqi flag over its buildings.

Iraqi forces link up in Mosul

BAGHDAD/IRBIL, Iraq: Iraqi forces joined flanks in northern Mosul and drove back Daesh militants in the southeast on Thursday in a renewed push that has brought them closer to controlling the eastern half of the city.

Forces from the elite Counter-Terrorism Service (CTS) took control of 7th Nissan and Sadeeq districts, linking up with army troops that had pushed through Al-Hadba neighborhood, CTS spokesman Sabah Al-Numan told Reuters.

“This is considered contact between the troops of the northern front and CTS. This... will prevent any gap between the axes which the enemy could use,” he said by phone. “The enemy is now located only in front of the troops, not at their sides.”

Al-Numan said more than 85 percent of eastern Mosul was now under control of pro-government forces, up from nearly 75 percent a week ago.

Brett McGurk, Washington’s envoy to the US-led coalition backing the Iraqi offensive with air strikes, training and advice, called the link-up a “milestone” and said in a tweet that Islamic State’s defenses were weakening.

The campaign to recapture Mosul, Islamic State’s last major stronghold in Iraq and the largest urban center anywhere in the sprawling territory it once controlled, has pushed ahead with renewed vigor since the turn of the year after troops got bogged down inside the city in late November and December.

New tactics, including a night raid, better defenses against suicide car bomb attacks and improved coordination between the army and security forces operating on different fronts, have helped forge momentum, US and Iraqi officers say.

When it launched the offensive in October, the Iraqi government hoped to have retaken the city by the end of 2016, but Iraqi Prime Minister Haider Al-Abadi said in December it could now take another three months to drive the militants out.

Iraqi forces capture 2 districts in Mosul

[al-Manar] The Iraqi army and security forces, backed by the mobilization forces and allies, managed on Thursday to liberate Hajaf, Hayane and Tal Janobi villages in western Mosul from ISIL takfiri group, inflicting heavy losses upon its terrorists.

Command of “Nineveh, We’re Coming” operations had earlier announced on Thursday the liberation of two other neighborhoods in the eastern side of Mosul.

The operations commander lieutenant general Abdul Amir Rashid Yarallah said in a statement that the Iraqi federal police managed on Thursday to liberate Somar and Saheroun neighborhoods.

Heavy losses were inflicted upon ISIL Takfiri terrorists, Yarallah said, adding that the Iraqi flag was raised on several building in the two liberated neighborhoods.

Tens of thousands of troops launched a huge offensive to retake Mosul, ISIL’s last major bastion in Iraq, and areas around it on October 17.

Over the past two weeks, Iraqi forces have overran several districts and reached the Tigris River that runs through the heart of the city for the first time.

Mosul is split by the Tigris River, with the east side referred to as the left bank and the west as the right.

snuffies to give themselves up. "Who will look after your families if you are killed?" read the message, found on the ground in an apartment complex on the city's northern edge.

Sent by the Iraqi government, it appears to have been ignored.

At the bottom of a stairwell in one of the apartment blocks lay the corpses of three snuffies who must have known they would lose against the overwhelming numbers and firepower of their opponents.

Iraqi forces backed by a U.S.-led coalition took the Hadba apartment complex several days ago as the campaign to drive Islamic State out of Mosul gains momentum in the city's east.

A tour arranged for Rooters to show Islamic State fights losing battle in eastern Mosuloff the government forces' latest gains showed how the Lion of Islams, though vastly outnumbered and overpowered, are still putting up a fight for their largest urban stronghold.

Beneath blankets thrown over their remains, the snuffies appear to have fought on even after being gravely maimed.

One had a makeshift splint on his leg, and a big skidmark of blood indicated a Lion of Islam may have dragged himself into cover, or been pulled by the others.

The lower half of one bully boy's body was blown off before he had a chance to detonate the suicide belt still tied around his waist.

"We came from here and hit him with a rocket," said an Iraqi soldier, retracing his steps through the outdoor passage they used to come up on the snuffies from behind.

The complex is made up of more than 160 blocks -- the three-storey buildings now giving Iraqi forces an added advantage over the enemy, which is being pushed back towards the Tigris river bisecting Mosul from north to south.

Some Iraqi units further south reached the banks of the Tigris over the weekend -- a milestone in the offensive that began when the elite counterterrorism service (CTS) pushed into Mosul from the east in October.

The western half of the city remains fully under Islamic State control and retaking it from Islamic State is likely to be complicated by narrow alleys.

overnight Wednesday, with the military calling it the biggest illegal weapons manufacturer found in the past year.

Forces uncovered two metal lathes in the workshop as part of what the army said is an ongoing effort to clamp down on weapons manufacturers and illegally held weapons in Paleostinian areas.

Forces have uncovered several arms workshops in Hebron and other West Bank cities as part of a bolstered effort to shut down arms manufacturing and running over the past year. A number of terror attacks have been carried out with makeshift rifles manufactured in underground workshops in the West Bank.

The suspects were taken in for questioning.

The army said it also seized a vehicle in the town of Beit Ummar, southwest of Jerusalem, that had been used to transport rioters.

bully boy group released a video threatening to behead a German hostage if Germany does not pay a $10 million ransom, SITE Intelligence Group reported Wednesday. Jurgen Kantner was captured last November along with his lover companion, who was rubbed out after she tried to escape.

"We are giving you an ultimatum to fulfill our demands. Failure to pay the ransom will cause the beheading of this German citizen," one of the three masked kidnappers dressed in black reportedly said in the video, which was released late Wednesday night. "To the German government, it seems that you are not paying attention to our demands because of your arrogance. Have you not learnt anything?"

The bully boy group captured 70-year-old Kantner from Malaysian waters, near Sabah state close to southern Philippines. The two were taken at gunpoint from a yacht. Kantner’s deceased companion was identified as Sabine Merz.

Indonesians detained at Woodlands claimed to be preachers: Malaysian police
[CHANNELNEWSASIA] Eight Indonesians held at Singapore's Woodlands Checkpoint said they were preachers from the Tabligh Jamaat Islamic group, a senior Malaysian counter-terrorism official told Channel NewsAsia on Thursday (Jan 12).
Preachers. Simple preachers. Heavily-armed, simple preachers...
One of the eight, identified as Ridce Elfi Hendra, was found with one image of a shoe bomb and two images of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS), said Ayub Khan Mydin Pitchay, principal assistant director of Special Branch’s counter-terrorism division.

"They claimed to be preachers from the Tablighi Jamaat
A group of itinerant Deobandi preachers who form one of al-Qaeda's recruiting arms...
movement, which is also sometimes known as Tabligh. They said they have been preaching in madrasahs (religious boarding schools) in Pattani, southern Thailand and then travelled down to Malaysia’s state of Perlis. They later came to Malacca to meet with a preacher there," said Ayub.

Tabligh Jamaat is a global Sunni Moslem missionary group.

"We will be investigating the madrasahs and the preacher whom they met with," Ayub added.

The men were in Malaysia from Jan 3 to 10 and claimed they were from Padang, West Sumatra, Indonesia.

A senior Indonesian counter-terrorism official told Channel NewsAsia that "initial interrogation showed they were not IS members".

"They are just preachers. This is the result of our initial investigation," said the Indonesian official.

Ayub said the men tried to enter Singapore at 1.30am on Jan 10 and were detained by Singapore’s immigration authorities and deported to Malaysia. They were held by Malaysia’s Special Branch counter-terrorism officers at 2am.

They were deported to Indonesia’s island of Batam at 9am that same day and handed over to Indonesian police counter-terrorism taskforce Densus 88.

DEPORTEE HAD IMAGES OF SHOE BOMB, IS FIGHTERS

Singapore's Ministry of Home Affairs (MHA) confirmed on Thursday evening that the eight Indonesians - aged between 16 and 37 - were deported to Malaysia on Jan 10.

"One of them was found in possession of images of security concern, including that of a shoe-bomb as well as fighters from the terrorist group that calls itself the Islamic State in Iraq and Syria," MHA said.

"The Singapore authorities informed their Malaysian counterparts before the deportation," added a spokesperson for MHA.

According to Ayub, the Tabligh movement's teachings in Malaysia have been mostly peaceful and moderate.

"There have been only one or two cases at the most where its followers were found to be radical. They joined Jemaah Islamiyah (JI) and the Malaysian Mujahidin Movement (KMM)," said Ayub.

JI is the regional terror group behind the devastating 2002 Bali bombings. KMM, which is also known as the Malaysian Militant Movement, is a turban group with links to JI, which believes in overthrowing the secular Malaysian government and replacing it with an Islamic state.

Tabligh has been described by Moslem scholars as apolitical and somewhat secretive. It was founded in 1927.

Its biggest annual event is a three-day prayer and fast held in Bangladesh that attracts millions and is believed to be one of the largest gatherings of Moslems in the world after the Haj pilgrimage.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Israeli rockets hit military airport near Damascus
[Iran Press TV] A huge kaboom has rocked a Syrian Air Force installation southwest of the capital Damascus, after the Israeli regime launched a rocket attack against a designated target at the site.

The Israeli rockets struck the Mezzeh Military Airport, less than eight kilometers southwest of Damascus, early on Friday, and caused a large fire, but there has been no immediate report of casualties.

Syrian state TV quoted the army command as saying that the rockets, which it said were fired from an area close to the Sea of Galilee in the north of the Israeli-occupied Paleostinian territories, hit the airport’s compound.

Earlier reports said the rockets had targeted an arms depot at the military installation.

Several loud kabooms were reportedly heard after the attack against the major facility for the elite Elite Republican Guards.

The Syrian army also vowed to take Dire Revenge for the "flagrant" attack and "amputate the arms of the perpetrators."

"The Syrian army command and armed forces warn Israel of the repercussions of the flagrant attack and stresses its continued fight against (this) terrorism," it said in a statement.

The development came more than a month after the Israeli military fired missiles from within the occupied Paleostinian territory at the same Syrian army airbase outside Damascus.

"At 3:00 a.m., the Israeli enemy fired several surface-to-surface missiles from inside occupied territory," Syria’s official news agency SANA reported in December, citing a military source. The report said the Israeli missiles set off a blaze at the targeted site.

The Syrian military source called the missile attack against the Mezzeh airbase part of "desperate attempts by the Israeli enemy to support terrorist groups and raise their low morale."

The Mezzeh airbase reportedly hosts the headquarters of the Air Force Intelligence Directorate.
...and also a prison. According to the Rantburg archives, Israel has hit it several times already.

Syrian Army Pushes Daesh Out of Palmyra, Regains Full Control Over City
[SPUTNIKNEWS] The Syrian army managed to repel a ISIS attack on Palmyra, regaining full control over the embattled city, a source in militia reported.

Earlier, it was reported that the Syrian armed forces together with local militias were engaged in fierce fights against the ISIS holy warriors on the outskirts of the ancient city. Prior to that, media reports emerged alleging that ISIS has reentered Palmyra after being ousted from the city by Syrian troops with air support from Russia earlier in the year. "Let me repeat that Palmyra is under control of the army and militia. ISIS holy warriors are carrying out intense attacks, but they have been repulsed," the military source told RIA Novosti. According to Al Masdar news agency, the ISIS forces of Evil that entered the city were forced to flee after the Syrian Air Force's jets supported by Russian aviation bombed them. The Syrian Army with militias regained control over all slopes of the Tar Mountain near Palmyra. A number of the ISIS holy warriors have also been reported eliminated.

At least seven killed in suicide attack in Syrian capital

The source was quoted by state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
as saying a suicide bomber blew himself in the Kafr Sousa neighborhood where some of Syria's main security installations are located.

The British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights which tracks violence across the country said the corpse count was expected to rise with several of the maimed in a critical condition.

Footage on state media showed splattered blood and wreckage of several cars with dozens of heavily armed security personnel at the site of the kaboom.

Last July a boom-mobile also hit Kafr Sousa near an Iranian school in an attack that killed several people in the area, close to the main Umayyad Square that connects the city with several highways.

Insurgents fighting to topple President Bashar al Assad say the district houses many recruits from Iranian-backed militias fighting alongside the army.

3 die in bombing attack in Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) Three refugees were killed Thursday in a twin blast carried out by Islamic State militants north of Mosul, an Iraqi military source told Anadolu Agency.

Ahmed al-Mosawi, a brigadier general at the army’s 16th division, said two suiciders wearing explosive belts sneaked in the middle of refugees from Hadbaa area, and were heading towards security forces but blew themselves up once discovered by the officers.

The deaths included two men and a woman, while an eight-year-old child was wounded.

Military operations by the Iraqi government running since October to drive out Islamic State from Mosul have forced 173.000 people to flee their residences in the city. Hundred thousands others remain stranded into battlefields and are reportedly used as human shields. Many are also targeted upon attempting to flee Islamic State-held regions.

On Wednesday, the United Nations Humanitarian Coordinator in Iraq, Lise Grande, said civilians represent 47 percent of casualties resulting from Mosul encounters.

There are more than 3 million internally-displaced people in Iraq, the UN says.

Iraqi officials and US generals backing government forces in their battles say IS could be defeated out of the city within 2-3 months. The number of militants killed since the launch of operations stands at more than 1800.

ISIS radio net hacked by anonymous
"Is this the party to whom I am speaking?"
Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) An anonymous individual succeeded to hack the radio frequency of the Islamic State group, west of Mosul, and send a message to the group’s leader Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi, a local source told Alsumaria News on Thursday.

The source said, “An anonymous individual hacked, at noon today, the radio frequency of the Islamic State, west of Mosul, and sent a message to Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi that ‘Mosul will be liberated’.”

“The hacking is the first of its kind in areas west of Mosul that are considered a key headquarters for the extremist group. Members of the Islamic State suffered confusion due to the hacking,” the source added on condition of anonymity.

Noteworthy, the Islamic State is using a wireless communication system to launch attacks and give orders to its members.

19 die in ISIS mortar attack in Mosul

Nineveh (IraqiNews.com) A security source in Nineveh Province revealed that a 23 civilians were either killed or wounded by an Islamic State’s shelling, while trying to leave a residential district in eastern Mosul, Alsumaria News reported on Thursday.

The source said, “Today, members of the Islamic State group shelled al-Maliyah neighborhood, which was liberated earlier by the joint security forces, in eastern Mosul, killing 19 civilians and wounding four others.”

“Security forces rushed to the area of incident to evacuate bodies and provide treatment to the wounded.” The source explained. “The Islamic State’s members bombed the displaced amilies with mortar shells,” he added.

The Islamic State usually bombs the areas that were liberated by the joint security forces in Mosul, to target residents of these areas who refused to stand by it against security forces.

ISIS executes 2 in Hasakah

[ARA News] Shaddadi – Extremists of the Islamic State (ISIS) on Thursday executed two men in northeastern Syria after accusing them of supporting the Kurdish YPG forces and the US-led coalition, activists and eyewitnesses reported.

The ISIS-led al-Hisba Police arrested the two men in the village of Tel Jaer in the southern countryside of Hasakah Governorate earlier this week.

Muhammad al-Kankoul, 32, was accused by ISIS of joining the ranks of the Kurdish People’s Protection Units (YPG). And Mazin al-Hussein, 29, was accused of leaking security information about ISIS movements in Margada town to the YPG and the US-led coalition.

“The Sharia Court in Margada order their execution on charges of apostasy and treason,” a local media activist told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity.

ISIS jihadists publicly executed al-Kankoul and al-Hussein in Margada town in the evening on Thursday, and their dead bodies were crucified on electricity poles, eyewitnesses said.

Margada is the Islamic State’s last stronghold in Hasakah Governorate. It is located on the administrative border between Hasakah and Deir ez-Zor Governorates. On December 4, the Kurdish YPG forces launched a major offensive to liberate Margada town.

Backed by the US-led coalition, the People’s Protection Units and the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF), an alliance of Kurdish, Arab and Assyrian militias, are reportedly pushing south along the Khabur River.
