Britain
Rotherham lessons
[DAWN] LAST month a damning report came out that showed 1,400 vulnerable children in Rotherham, UK, had been systematically sexually abused by gangs of men, mostly of Pak origin, between 1997 and 2013. It's easy to pass this off as a crime that doesn't concern us because it took place on British soil. Yet it gives us a vital opportunity to examine our attitudes towards child abuse in our own country, so that we can better work to protect children here and anywhere else where Paks live in the world.

After similar scandals in Oxford and Rochdale, as well as the Jimmy Saville case, the Rotherham scandal has stirred up huge controversy in the United Kingdom. Not only had abuse of the worst kind taken place, but the police and the Rotherham Council ignored the victims' pleas for help, thus victimising them further.

Self-styled community leaders who claim to represent all the Pak Moslems living in Rotherham encouraged police and council high-ups to ignore the abuse, in order to preserve the superficial 'honour' of the community. The officials went along with this to preserve their jobs. The result: children doubly failed by the system, by their elders and by their authority figures, and left to the mercy of men who drove up in taxis, plied these children, some as young as 11, and mostly white, with drugs, and assaulted them. They threatened to burn them alive if they told anyone what happened to them.

#1  Strangely, this poor attitude towards women also contributes to the phenomenon of child sexual abuse of boys in Pakistain as evinced by the recent documentary Pakistain's Hidden Shame.

"Strangely" to some possibly.

BLUF:
[Powerline] We get a preview of coming attractions in reports of an interview with Ms. Hillary for the October cover story of Psychologies magazine (I've never heard of it either), as reported in the British press. The Telegraph and Daily Mail headlines don't say it all, but they say about as much as we need: "Hillary held truth and reconciliation hearing over Bill's affair" (Telegraph) and "Hillary Clinton says Bill was subjected to South Africa-style hearings in order to work through his affair with intern Monica Lewinsky" (Daily Mail).

According to the articles, Ms. Hillary claims to have convened "South Africa-style" truth-and-reconciliation proceedings akin to those convened by Nelson Mandela to overcome the effects of the apartheid regime. Ms. Hillary explains that she was inspired by Mandela and that she had to invoke the truth-and-reconciliation process with Mr. Bill to avoid a mental "prison" for the rest of her life. Now she is free.

Who comes up with this stuff?

Lest we forget, when it served the purposes of the left, Mr. Bill was declared our first (metaphorical) black president by Toni Morrison in the New Yorker. This was before Obama became our first mixed-race president and New Yorker editor David Remnick took up the apostle's mantle.

Ms. Hillary now casts Mr. Bill in the role of one of the masters of apartheid and herself in the role of Mandela. It's all in a good cause, of course, as was the proclamation of Mr. Bill as our first black president, and no one is now about to disrupt the forces of history, let alone those of truth and reconciliation.
I have no problem with the Mandela strategy as long as both of them spend 18 years on Robben Island before making the run.

Might've been worse - she could've played the part of Winnie Mandela and had him 'necklaced'.

#2  if that is the analogy then make Bill illegal and throw Hillary into jail for 27 years.

India-Pakistan
Polio emergency
[DAWN] WHEN the world embarked on its fight against polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
decades ago, amongst the most iconic images coming from Pakistain was that of the then prime minister, Benazir Bhutto
... 11th Prime Minister of Pakistain in two non-consecutive terms from 1988 until 1990 and 1993 until 1996. She was the daughter of Zulfikar Ali Bhutto, founder of the Pakistain People's Party, who was murdered at the instigation of General Ayub Khan. She was murdered in her turn by person or persons unknown while campaigning in late 2007. Suspects include, to note just a few, Baitullah Mehsud, General Pervez Musharraf, the ISI, al-Qaeda in Pakistain, and her husband, Asif Ali Zardari, who shows remarkably little curiosity about who done her in...

Army, protesters and the government
[DAWN] AN emphatic set of statements by DG ISPR Gen Asim Bajwa during a presser on Friday may help roll back some of the persisting criticism that the army leadership is directly or indirectly backing the anti-government protesters camped out on Constitution Avenue in the federal capital.

At the very least, whatever the truth to criticism directed at the army previously, it appears that the army leadership has, going forward, decided against direct intervention or open involvement in the ongoing political crisis.

To the Sheikh Rashids and Shujaat Hussains of the political class, this is surely a setback. Many an ardent admirer of military rule and unabashed supporter of the army's role in politics have openly invited the military to either take over or keep the government of Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif

Olde Tyme Religion
The Headchopper Next Door
[SultanKnish] The problem isn't "radicalization". What Western governments call radicalization is the process by which the Muslim becomes aware of the dictates of his faith and their relevance to his life. It'snot the internet preachers with their fatwas. They are just the vectors for that awareness. The problem is Islam.

The current misguided thinking is that we can win a debate between a "good Islam" and a "bad Islam". The good Islam will tell Muslims to refrain from joining ISIS, to work for social change, to embrace diversity and to champion democracy. But this "good Islam" just a liberal's conception of what religion should be. Its only real followers are liberal non-Muslims and it has little to do with what Islam really is.

Within the historical context of Islam and in the words of the Koran, our idea of the good Muslim is actually a very bad Muslim. And our idea of the bad Muslim is the best of all Muslims. When we argue that Islam is a religion of peace, we are pushing against the full weight of over a thousand years of history and religious ideas and counting on Muslims to be too ignorant of them to know any better.

Those who genuinely want to change Islam will not do it by lying to Muslims about their religion. Trying to convince the nice Jihadist next door that Mohammed would have rejected his expedition to rape and pillage non-Muslims in Syria is futile. The nice Jihadist may not be a scholar, but he knows his Koran.

#1  If we destroy ISIS without exposing the ideology behind it, then we will have won a Pyrrhic victory because we will still be fighting the nice Jihadist next door for the next thousand years.

What are the chances of accomplishing this? And how does one go about this?
