#14  Years ago I live in an area that required a fee to have a refrigerator removed. Many could be thrown over hills into wooded areas and left in alleys. I later moved to an area that let you drop your refrigerator at the local dump; I do not recall seeing a stray refrigerator.

People will flush, dump on the side of the road, throw trash into business dumpsters.... This proposal is a problem looking for a mess.

Child killings spread fear in Ivory Coast
[Iran Press TV] Ivory Coast's authorities say a majority of 21 children kidnapped in recent weeks have been found dead with their bodies mutilated, raising fears of a wave of ritual sacrifices ahead of elections.

Most of the children were found dead, mutilated, decapitated and without their genitals in various parts of Ivory Coast since December, police said.

“The phenomenon is real and unusual. Our services have registered 21 cases,” said police chief, Brindou M'Bia.

Security forces have been placed on high alert over the recent spate of child abductions, M'Bia added.

Many residents fear the ritualistic-style killings are linked to the presidential and possibly legislative elections scheduled to take place toward the end of the year.

Corrupt businessmen and politicians are believed to be using children’s body parts in mystical and occult practices, which are supposed to give them money and supernatural powers.

Pope Francis Wants to Cross Southern Border to Show "Brotherhood and Support for Immigrants"
During his return flight from the Philippines this week, Pope Francis told reporters that during his trip this year to America he would like to cross the U.S.-Mexico border as a “beautiful gesture of brotherhood and support for immigrants.”

"To enter the United States from the border with Mexico would be a beautiful gesture of brotherhood and support for immigrants," Francis said during his return flight to Rome.
Maybe His Holiness would like to take a couple of million of 'em back to The Vatican with him?

#2  Tell you what Pope Francis, you cross the border north, we'll send the army south. After taking Mexico and driving it's people across their southern border, there won't be a US-Mexico border any more. There will just be US and US territory that might eventually become states.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister: US Defenses Can't Stop Our Nukes Anymore
The deputy prime minister of Russia, Dmitry Ragozin, said Monday that a breakthrough in Russian missile technology means that the United States will no longer be able to intercept Russian ballistic nuclear missiles.

Ragozin said that the details of the technology would “not be disclosed to anybody” and that Russian technology “shows that neither the current, nor even the projected American missile defense system could stop or cast doubt on Russia's strategic missile potential.”

Greece full debt repayment unrealistic: Syriza
[Iran Press TV] The top economic front man for Greece's victorious Syriza Party says it would be unrealistic to expect the country to repay its massive debt in full.

"I haven't met an economist in their heart of hearts that will tell you that Greece will pay back all of that debt. It can't be done," said Euclid Tsakalotos as quoted in a BBC report on Tuesday.

"Nobody believes that the Greek debt is sustainable," Tsakalotos added.

Greece's far-left Syriza Party, which won the general election on Sunday, says the country's 240-billion-euro bailout by international lenders must be renegotiated.

The Syriza front man further stated that EU leaders needed to demonstrate that they were willing to work with the victorious Greek political party.

"It's going to be a very funny and a very dangerous Europe with very strong centrifugal political forces if they signal that after a democratic vote they're not interested in talking to a new government," Tsakalotos said.

"It will be a final signal that this is a Europe that can't incorporate democratic change and it can't incorporate social change."

#5  "It will be a final signal that this is a Europe that can't incorporate democratic change and it can't incorporate social change."

Oh, that's rich.

You can borrow money from someone, spend it all on comfort, and arbitrarily declare that you aren't going to pay it back because not paying it back equals "social justice".

The accurate term is "larceny".

If the value of your labor to other people only affords you enough money for rice and beans, demanding a sirloin is stealing and thuggery.

#8  The Germans, no fools when it comes to finance, have spent the last couple years dragging the rest of the EU to the point where they can handle the Greeks. They can boot the Greeks from the euro, fix the German banks who are left dangling, and mitigate the damage to the rest of the EU banks.

The Greeks then will have a drachma that becomes increasingly devalued while Germany just goes on going on. Merkel is going to take a hard line on this one.

I have to explain to my government worker friends that when they say they pay taxes, it more like they're actually 'leaving' their money in the pot that's filled by the private sector businesses and workers.

Somehow, we're still friends (although a lot of them still don't really get it).

Ukraine parl. officially declares pro-Russians as terrorists
[Iran Press TV] The Ukrainian parliament has officially declared the pro-Russian forces of eastern Ukraine as terrorists.

On Tuesday, the Ukrainian parliament declared the self-proclaimed republics of Donetsk and Luhansk as terrorist organizations, saying Kiev will no more hold peace negotiations with the regions’ representatives.

Kiev has called the pro-Russian forces of eastern Ukraine terrorists since the beginning of the conflict in 2014. However, the official designation of the parliament would make pro-Russians subject to the counter-terrorism law, allowing the Ukrainian government to block their bank accounts, restrict their movement in the Ukrainian territory, and prevent them from contributing to the peace talks.

Former Defense Intel Chief Blasts Obama
Lt. General Michael Flynn, former head of the Defense Intelligence Agency, blasted the Obama administration’s approach to the War on Terror in a hard-hitting speech to a meeting of intelligence professionals. “The dangers to the U.S. do not arise from the arrogance of American power, but from unpreparedness or an excessive unwillingness to fight when fighting is necessary,” Flynn said, in an unsparing critique first reported by the Daily Beast.

Flynn left government last summer, a year before scheduled. He did not provide a reason for his early departure, but sources close to Flynn told THE WEEKLY STANDARD that he was forced out after years of making arguments the Obama administration did not want to hear.

Flynn, and many of the analysts who worked for him, consistently reported on the global nature of the jihadist threat and the interconnectedness of the groups driving it. They mapped overlapping networks of al Qaeda and its offshoots and rejected arguments, pushed primarily by the White House and the CIA, that killing leaders of “core al Qaeda” inevitably meant a diminishing threat.

One key fight came over the analysis of the documents captured during the raid that killed Osama bin Laden. The CIA was responsible for the first scrub of the collection of more than 1 million documents and retained “executive authority” over the cache when it was completed. But the CIA stopped analyzing or “exploiting” the documents after that first quick and incomplete assessment and the Agency made no attempt to systematically examine and codify all of the intelligence included in the intelligence haul.

“A full exploitation? No. Not even close. Maybe 10 percent,” he said.

The Obama administration is choosing ignorance.

The arguments that Flynn and his analysts were making were unwelcome in an administration publicly arguing that the threat was diminished and that the wars were over. Those who challenged the administration’s claims were sidelined or, in the case of Flynn, forced out. Several sources described the efforts at the time as a “purge” and warned about the dangers of an administration so unwilling to hear dissenting views.

Today, of course, there is little question that Flynn and his analysts were correct. But the Obama administration isn’t listening. The president gave a State of the Union last week in which he didn’t even mention al Qaeda, in which he awkwardly characterized the enemy as “violent extremists,” and in which he pretended that United States was winning the battle against ISIS.

Ignoring threats doesn’t make them go away. Refusing to accurately identify your enemies doesn’t change their nature. And announcing false victories makes real defeats more likely.

As Flynn put it: “Retreat, retrenchment and disarmament are historically a recipe for disaster.”

'Humble' Champ disliked idea of someone else putting on shoe cover
[Times of India] Agra: Obama is a humble man, he will not like anyone putting those protective covers on his shoes, US security personnel had told ASI and asked them to provide four velvet pairs in advance, for him and First Lady Michelle Obama.
No, the cotton will never do. The sequined RED velvet for our humble master please.
"Most Americans do not like others to carry their bags or help in such personal work. Obama could not possibly allow this colonial tradition. Moreover, there are automatic shoe cover dispensers installed at the Taj where you do not need to use your hand to wear them," said the official.
Glad to see the Secret Service finally coming around.

Man 'beaten' by lawyers moves court
[DAWN] LAHORE: A man, who was allegedly humiliated and severely beaten up by a group of lawyers during proceedings at the sessions court, has approached the court for registration of a criminal case against the advocates.

An additional district and sessions judge on Monday heard the petition of Muhammad Yousaf, the victim, and sought a reply from the Lower Mall station house officer.

The petitioner alleged the lawyers beat him up for not listening to their 'warnings' against pursuing a car theft case. Yousaf had filed a petition against Mehmood Akhtar alias Nunah Shah.

On Jan 15, when he visited the court to attend hearing of his case, counsel for Nunah Shah accompanied by a number of lawyers attacked him.

The petitioner said the attackers led by Advocate Muhammad Saeed audaciously thrashed him in the presence of the judge. He said the lawyers later took him to the bar room and also invited other lawyers to join in their bashing terming him a fake advocate.

The petitioner said the furious advocates defaced him with black shoe polish and made him walk on the court premises. Finally, he said, the lawyers handed him over to Islampura police accusing him of impersonating an advocate. However,
the man who has no enemies isn't anybody and has never done anything...
he said, the police investigated the matter and released him.

The petitioner stated that the Lower Mall SHO, when approached, refused to take action against the lawyers. He prayed to the court to order the SHO to lodge an FIR against lawyers.

Family friends kidnap, kill boy
With friends like that...
[DAWN] MULTAN: A seven-year old child who was kidnapped for ransom was killed by the kidnappers, later found out to be family friends, due to the alleged negligence of police.

On the other hand, police have placed in durance vile
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
the suspects involved in the incident.

The child, Abdullah Niaz, a resident of Shah Rukn-e-Alam Colony, went missing on Jan 18. His family informed police who did not bother even to register a case.

Abdul Ghaffar, the victim's uncle, told Dawn police had refused to lodge the case and alleged that the family was not telling truth.

"On Jan 19, we received a call from a mobile phone and the caller demanded Rs10 million for the release of the child," he said, adding that they, once again, contacted police and informed them about the call, giving them the mobile phone number from where the call was made but police did not move.

Ghaffar said the family received another call on Jan 21. This time, the family provided the computerised national identity card (CNIC) number of the person in whose name the subscriber identification module (SIM) was registered to the city police officer who ordered lodging of the case on the complaint of the mother of the child, Rehana Bibi, a widow.

The body of the child was found in Khanewal district where Kuhna police buried it.

Quoting Khanewal police, Ghaffar said the child was killed on Jan 20.

Multan police contacted the family on Jan 24 and informed them about the incident with the claim that the police had arrested all those involved in the incident.

Police arrested Mudasira Naureen, a family friend of the victim, and the other suspects, her mother Naseem Akhtar, Hasan Javed, Niaz and Muhammad Saleem, on charges of kidnapping and murdering the child. They have confessed to committing the crime.

The CPO appreciated the police team for its 'efficiency'.

The child's body was exhumed and brought to Multan from Khanewal and handed over to the family for burial.

Snowden may have leaked 'source code' for NSA programme
[Rooters] SAN FRANCISCO, Jan 27 - A program used by U.S. and British spies to record computer keystrokes was part of sophisticated hacking operations in more than a dozen countries, security experts said on Tuesday, after former NSA contractor Edward Snowden reportedly leaked the source code for the program.

On Tuesday, researchers at security software firm Kaspersky Lab said that much of that code, published this month by German magazine Spiegel, matched what they previously found in machines infected by Regin, a major suite of spying tools exposed in November.

Lead Kaspersky researcher Costin Raiu said that the keylogging program, called Qwerty, would work only with Regin, and that it appeared several Western countries' spies had been using Regin over the course of a decade.
