White House fence jumper makes it inside
WASHINGTON (AP) -- A man jumped over the fence of the White House on Friday and made it through the front door before officers managed to apprehend him, the Secret Service said. President Barack Obama had departed the White House just minutes earlier.

The rare and possibly unprecedented security breach was likely to renew intense scrutiny of the Secret Service.
I actually hope the White House has measures already in place in case one of the armored vehicles they have been giving away to local law enforcement agencies, you know, the kind that have already gone missing from Police Chief Barney Fife's small town parking lot in Dogpatch, one of those armored vehicles suddenly rolls down the street towards the White House gate or fence. Will an Uzi be able to stop it? Or do they have something a little beefier for such possibilities?

#8  Sad to see the white house security is as shitty as the border. Reports are there was security at the door with his gun drawn but he chose not to shoot. Bad call, he should be fired. The world needed to know that jumping that fence is a death penalty. Now every bomb wearing terrorist know he can get within blast range. Our secret service is failing over and over again. It is only a matter of time if they dont figure out that they are there to defend the president and stop acting like security guards at Wall Mart.

Mark and Krystal Geist: The Shadow Warriors Project
Mark and Krystal Geist, the founders of Shadow Warriors Project have committed their lives to benefitting American people. Mark served our country in the Marine Corp for 12 years and continued on to serve the American people as a Special Operative Contractor where he worked in the most dangerous places on the globe. Mark returned home wounded and broken, leaving the pieces of their lives scattered. After a full recovery, Mark and Krystal are back at what they do best, helping Americans, in their efforts with the Shadow Warriors Project.

Letter from the founders:

Our goal with the Shadow Warriors Project is to create a better everyday life for as many American contractors and their families as possible. We decided to start SWP when Mark returned home from an incredibly dangerous operation. He was hurt both mentally and physically and we wished there was a system that could have helped us repair.

After having almost lost my life and going through almost two years of surgeries and rehabilitation my family and I have found that there is limited short term and virtually no long term support system in place for the contractor.

We can do better, we must do better for those that choose to continue serving our beloved country and in doing so become injured or killed in that service. We want the contractor and his family to not have to worry, should the unthinkable occur.

We thank you for your interest and hope that you will join forces with us to give American contractors a more fruitful life.

Sincerely,
Mark & Krystal Geist

Mark Geist is a Benghazi survivor and co-author of the book "13 Hours."

Ebola Screening for Nigeria's Mecca-Bound Pilgrims
We'd been wondering about the intersection of the haj and ebola. Here is Nigeria's answer.
[AnNahar] With some 76,000 Nigerian Moslems expected this year at the hajj in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, organization was always going to be a major logistical undertaking.

But after more than 2,600 deaths from Ebola in West Africa this year, including eight in Nigeria, the authorities have had to put in extra security measures to allay fears about its possible spread outside the region.

Nigeria is the only country of the five in the region affected by the mass outbreak of hemorrhagic fever that has been given permission to send its pilgrims to Mecca for the world's largest gathering of Moslems.

One pilgrim, Afolabi Inabo, said she was sure the measures would work. "Ebola cannot spread because we have sanitisers, we wash our hands, we have soap, we have masks, we have (latex) gloves," she told Agence France Presse
. At the hajj cargo terminal at Murtala Mohammed International Airport in Lagos and at other departure points across the country, that means a three-tier health screening check before they are even allowed to board the plane.

On Thursday, five busloads of pilgrims from Oyo state in southwest Nigeria arrived at the terminal, all dressed in the same yellow and beige patterned cloth for easy identification in the Moslem holy city.

The men, in "buba and sokoto" -- traditional long robe and trousers -- formed one queue while the women, their heads covered by the hijab in the same pattern, lined up separately.

Shopping bags carried on heads were put down as workers from the Ports Health Authority used contactless thermometers to check the travelers' temperatures; fever is one symptom of the virus.

Just one woman was taken aside for secondary screening but later allowed to proceed.

Another queue formed at a water tank at the compound entrance gates. A helpful official squirted soap from a bottle.

One pilgrim, Afolabi Inabo, said she was sure the measures would work.

"Ebola cannot spread because we have sanitisers, we wash our hands, we have soap, we have masks, we have (latex) gloves," she told Agence La Belle France Presse.

Some 35,000 pilgrims nationwide have already undergone the same procedure, while both the state and federal governments in Nigeria have carried out health checks even before the pilgrims get on the bus.

- Vigilant -
Nigeria has been widely praised for its response to Ebola, despite initial fears that the virus could spread like wildfire in the crowded megacity of Lagos, where the first case was detected in July.

Health Minister Onyebuchi Chukwu said on Wednesday that no case of Ebola had been detected in Nigeria for a week, although four people were still under surveillance in Lagos and 344 in the southern oil city of Port Harcourt.

Oguntimehin Olukayode, from the Lagos State health ministry, told news hounds that Nigeria had responded "tremendously well" but it was important to be vigilant -- particularly with the hajj such a crowded event.

Some two million people are expected at the hajj next month, according to the Saudi authorities.

"The idea behind the screening all passengers in and out of Nigeria is basically to make sure that Nigeria doesn't export any case to any country and at the same time we don't import any case," said Olukayode.

"It's part of that overall role that Nigeria is looking to ensure this doesn't become a problem."

Alex Okoh, from the Ports Health Authority in Lagos, said officials were all too aware of how easily an infected person could get into Nigeria after the first case arrived unwell on a flight from the Liberian capital Monrovia.

Checks have since been stepped up at seaports and stronger measures put in place at land borders as well as illegal routes into the country.

For the hajj, more than 6,000 pilgrims have been checked and approved for travel in Lagos so far, she said.

"It's huge," she said of the operation, which is backed by the World Health Organization. "So far, so good. We haven't had any suspect cases for Ebola on the hajj pilgrimage," she said.

#1  A totally genius plan whose only flaw is that it takes from 2 to 21 days after infection for symptoms to appear, according to WHO.

#2  And if hand sanitizer and rubber gloves are all you need then there should be no problem, right?

Mecca. Yeah. What are we paying the CIA for, by the way? What would the Church Committee say to a MASSIVE outbreak of Ebola in Mecca? No? Only 8 cases of Ebola death in Nigeria? Can't do much in Mecca with that. Even 8,000 would be insufficient. But it depends on the Will of Allah...and hand sanitizer.

#3  Bingo, SteveS.

Nigeria is the only country of the five in the region . . . that has been given permission to send its pilgrims to Mecca

That's good. As is the fact that there are only 4 people still under surveillance in Lagos.

However: they're monitoring 344 people in Port Harcourt?? Because of one infected person in Lagos who slipped away a couple of weeks ago. That's all it takes to start a new chain of transmission.

#4  As a final precaution, they're being flown on Malaysian Airways.

#5  The Haj could be the real apocalypse for Islam.

Given the ease with which Ebola/Marburg transmits and its ability to breach all but the most rigid of Class IV biohazard protection, a couple of incubating cases of Ebola amongst the millions of people in Mekkah congregating around the Kabah, Ebola could find itself in every Moslem country in the world and the disease could become a ghastly pandemic for everyone.

The potential for horrendous mass deaths on the scale of the great plagues of the middle ages is nothing to sneeze at. Once this stuff gets to Mekkah and spread among the pilgrams, who also come from the US, and other Western countries, it will spread like wildfire.

I don't think we want to wish the plague of Ebola on the Moslems right now, Ebola is nothing to hope for.

This Week in Guns: September 20th, 2014

By Chris Covert
Rantburg.com

Hollywood actor Liam Neeson advocates theft and murder, the murder part with the active and willing participation of police and armed forces. The action film star wants to take away all handguns and then ban them. That makes him like every other terminal fascist.

Amongst the items in your home to use in case of a violent home invasion is a good alarm system and bug spray, according to a retired New York City detective. I think the alarm system is to alert cops who respond to a call about a home invasion, so they can more easily find your bloody body and the dead bodies of your family. The bug spray, as far as I can tell, is to keep the bugs away until you are trundled off in a body bag.

Speaking of close quarters combat within the walls of your standard home/apartment, among the most commonly held weapons in an American household -- the .223 (40, 55 and 60 grain ballistic tip; 55 grain pointed soft point, 64 grain power point), .45 ACP FMJ, 9mm JSP, 7.62 AK FMJ, .380 Auto FMJ and 12 Gauge 00 Buckshot -- which projectile would you think would penetrate the wallboard the least? Before I completed the story in the link I figured it would be the .45 ACP. Nope: It's the .223 64 grain power point.

The new Texas-made "Smart Gun", which costs $27,500, is raising "concerns" with gun groups who say those rifles have no legitimate civilian purpose. Thankfully, the anti gun people don't get to decide how an individual is going to use his personal property. The folks at Bearing Arms are also concerned anti-gun people want to seize bolt action rifles since they are considered like this $27 Grand rifle, a precision rifle. I may have addressed this before, but I guess I will again. The only thing an individual bent on firing one dedicated kill shot at an enemy needs, be the shooter a soldier, a police thug or a pissed off civilian, is a steady hand, a good eye, and a hard heart. The tool used is immaterial.

#1  Good read on wall penetration, much better information than at the water cooler.

I would have thought using bug spray to intentionally harm a person would be considered using a weapon. I prefer my official Quite-Gone Gin Light Saber and flat one-liners. If that doesn't work, its Safety Dance time brother.

#2  Over at Sipsey Street Irregulars, my remark about snipers got this response from an anonymous Afghan combat vet:

Badanov,

I once found myself taking "sniper fire" from a guy who thought allah would guide the bullets from his busted up Druganov. He met the appropriate end. I assure you it takes more than what you mentioned above. It is a good start, but having the right tools and the correct application of learned skills, will get you a whole lot farther.

Owning a peasant army rifle is a start, but just a start.

#3  Least penetration? It's the .223 64 grain power point. Would not have thought that.

Good quote. Except, it is good to not be too pissed off as it might spoil your judgment and aim. Most "defensive" shooting is going to take place at relatively short distances such as occurred in Ferguson, MO. Sniper shooting a different story.

1 in 4 Americans want independence from Washington: Poll
[Iran Press TV] Amid the growing anger with Washington, nearly a quarter of Americans want their states to break away from the United States and become an independent country, a new poll has found.

The results of a Rooters/Ipsos poll released on Friday show that 24 percent of Americans strongly support or tend to support the idea of their state separating from the union.

The survey, taken from August 23 through September 16, indicates that 53.3 percent of the 8,952 respondents strongly oppose or tend to oppose secessionist ideas.

San Diego school district to return armored military vehicle
[LATIMES] The San Diego school district will return its armored military vehicle to the Department of Defense, school officials announced Thursday night.
Would it be possible to return it for the equivalent dollar amount of math books or blackboards or rulers or something?
The district joins a list of agencies returning excess military equipment amid a national controversy over local law enforcement agencies using such equipment.

The controversy erupted when police in Ferguson, Mo., used military equipment and tactics to quell protests after the shooting of an unarmed black man by a white police officer.

Badghis Clerics Issue Decree Prohibiting Women From Work
[Tolo News] A number of provincial holy mans in Badghis have warned women and girls not to leave their homes to attend school and work in a co-ed environment with their male counterparts, calling it a "prohibited" act.

According to the provincial Chief of Women's Affairs department, Zarghoona Sherzad, the ruling issued has led to serious concerns for the females of the province. She said that Mullah Imam of Jam-e Mosque of Qala-e Naw City have given the females of the province a week's time to stop working and attending school.

CDC: Ebola Worst-Case Scenario Has More Than 500,000 Cases
[Bloomberg] The Ebola outbreak in West Africa could spread to hundreds of thousands more people by the end of January, according to an estimate under development by the U.S. Centers for Disease Control and Prevention that puts one worst-case scenario at 550,000 or more infections.

The report, scheduled to be released next week, was described by two people familiar with its contents, who asked to remain anonymous because it isn't yet public.

The projection, which vastly outstrips previous estimates, is under review by researchers and may change. It assumes no additional aid or intervention by governments and relief agencies, which are mobilizing to contain the Ebola outbreak before it spirals further out of control in Liberia, Sierra Leone and Guinea.

"CDC is working on a dynamic modeling tool that allows for recalculations of projected Ebola cases over time," Barbara Reynolds, a spokeswoman for the agency, said in an e-mail. "CDC expects to release this interactive tool and a description of its use soon."

Not clear from the article but 550,000 is by the end of January. Just 4 months away. And it keeps doubling from there.

Exactly. The actual worst-case scenario is, most of humanity will be wiped out. Perhaps the CDC has arbitrarily plucked a scary-sounding number out of thin air, because the reality sounds too incredible?

Why would they suspend communication? There's no disease that can be transmitted by cell phone, and people working from home on their laptops -- or playing Candy Crush -- aren't as likely to run amok in the streets.

#10  Are we heading towards a 1917 pandemic?

The big question for me is, will this spread outside of tropical Africa where all ebola transmission to date has ocurred?

There seems to be an assumption it won't.

Maybe the Haj will give us the answer.

#11  Why would they suspend communication?

To suppress the 'panic'. What ed is indirectly referring to is to suppress or steal an election they stand to lose heavily in.
Posted by: Procopius2k || 09/20/2014 18:26 Comments || Top||

#12  it shouldn't be too bad outside of west Africa, because if even one case turns up there, hundreds of people will respond to suppress transmission and trace contacts.

in west Africa though, there is no one left to respond. so it will spread until the proportion of the population immune to ebola is about the reciprocal of the retransmission rate, which is two. so two-thirds of the people will get this and half of those will become immune before it is done.

this sort of exponential phenomena is what did in fukashima. once it got too hot, there was no way to stop it. and in my opinion, Liberia is already too hot. some of these other countries are pretty hot but it is still too close to call.

Alleged sorcerer arrested in Riyadh
[ARABNEWS] Officials from the Commission for the Promotion of Virtue and Prevention Vice (Haia) in Riyadh have jugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
an African man accused of engaging in black magic to create rift in married couples for SR20,000 a client, said Turki Al-Shelail, Haia front man.
"Gimme RS20,000 or yer marriage is bust!"
"Which one?"

Haia officials have confiscated the material supposedly used by the man to cast spells.
"Don't touch that!"
"By Allan, Abdul! Yer hand's turned into a toad!"
"Make it stop jumping!"
"No! I'll get warts!"

Saudi bloggers have expressed their indignation at the heinous crime and urged authorities to behead him.
"Dat's right! Orf widdiz 'ead!"
"Those who turn to sorcerers to create division among members of society must be punished," said one blogger, who did not mention his name.
Ummm... What if the sorcery's total BS? I regularly sit around uttering Words of Power and nothin' ever happens.
Have you tried it in Soddy-controlled Arabia?
And what about good-hearted sorcerers who turn bats into people or make wells wet?
"God's wrath will be incurred on people who try to create division among married couples and who pay huge amounts to destroy homes and families," said Mouda Alaf.
"Y'see, honey? I was only shaggin' Fatima because somebody laid a curse on me!"
"Damn those sorcerers! Come on, Moh! I'll make you a special dinner!"

Another blogger urged security officers to catch people who turn to sorcerers to do their dirty work.
"You there! Yer under arrest! Book 'im, Mahmoud! Soliciting Sorcerers One!"
"The sorcerer should be asked to break his black magic spells before being beheaded," said another blogger.
"Ummm... Lemme get this straight: I undo the spells, then you behead me?"
"Yeah. Them's the rules."
"It'll take awhile to undo the spells..."
"How long?"
"'Bout seventy years."

New agreement enhances current truce in Ukraina

All terms and conditions of the agreements reached tripartite contact group to address the crisis in Ukraine in Minsk, will be performed during the day. ITAR-TASS quoted the Russian ambassador to Kiev Zurabov that, perhaps too optimistic.

According to the diplomat, the progress already evident: after the armistice on September 5 from captivity were released 120 troops (obviously Zourabov meant Ukrainian soldiers, - Zarusskiy.Org), and the number of clashes has decreased by 70%, reports BBC .

Prime Minister of People's Republic of Donetsk Alexander Zaharchenko, in turn, said that the memorandum on the implementation of the protocol of September 5, put "an end to the firing collision."

Russia Plans Break From Global Web as U.S. Rift Deepens
[BUSINESSWEEK] Russia plans next week to discuss contingency measures to cut the country off from the global Internet in what the Kremlin called a necessary step to shield the nation from the U.S.-controlled worldwide Web.
Zat mean the brute force attacks on our server emanating from Rossiya are gonna stop?
As usual, it'll be a one-way block...
Russia's state security council will examine ways to ensure domestic users can be redirected to servers inside the country rather than relying on the U.S.-managed Internet domain-names system, the Moscow-based Coordination Center for .RU domain said by e-mail today.

"We need to defend ourselves from the U.S. and Europe," President Vladimir Putin
...Second and fourth President and sixth of the Russian Federation and the first to remain sober. Putin is credited with bringing political stability and re-establishing something like the rule of law, which occasionally results in somebody dropping dead from polonium poisoning. Under Putin, a new group of business magnates controlling significant swathes of Russia's economy has emerged, all of whom have close personal ties to Putin. The old bunch, without close personal ties to Putin, are in jail or in exile or dead...
's front man, Dmitry Peskov, said by phone today. "This is not about isolating ourselves, it's about getting ready for possible cut-offs as countries that regulate the Web may act unpredictably."

Russia, on the brink of recession after U.S. and European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
sanctions provoked by the worst geopolitical rift since the Cold War over Ukraine, has been tightening control of the Internet this year. Putin, a former KGB colonel who's centralized power since he became president in 2000, has called the Internet a creation of U.S. spy agencies.

"The Kremlin has already crushed all real opposition and taken over control of nearly all media that tried to remain independent," Gennady Gudkov, a former opposition politician, said on his blog. "Criticism of the authorities is now an almost exclusive preserve of the Internet."

Europe
Catalonia passes law to authorize independence vote
[Iran Press TV] Catalonia's regional parliament has passed legislation authorizing a referendum on the region's independence from the rest of Spain.

Catalonia's parliament made the announcement on Friday, allowing Catalan leaders to hold a non-binding vote on November 9.

The law was approved with 106 to 28 votes.

Spanish Prime Minister Mariano Rajoy is against Catalonia's campaign for an independence referendum, because Spain's constitution prohibits referendums that do not include all Spaniards.

The decision came on the heels of Scottish people voting to stay with the UK in a similar vote.

Court acquits Sharifs in money laundering case
[DAWN] An accountability court on Friday cleared Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif
... served two non-consecutive terms as prime minister, heads the Pakistain Moslem League (Nawaz). Noted for his spectacular corruption, the 1998 Pak nuclear test, border war with India, and for being tossed by General Musharraf...
and Punjab Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif
...Pak dynastic politician, brother of PM Nawaz Sharif, chief minister of Punjab...
of all charges pertaining to a money laundering reference filed 14 years ago.

During a hearing presided by Justice Anwar Ahmed at the National Accountability Bureau (NAB) court, Sharif brothers, along with Kulsoom Nawaz, Maryam Nawaz and Hamza Shahbaz, were acquitted from all corruption charges in relation to Raiwind palace, Hudaibya Paper Mills and possession of illegal assets.

Justice Ahmed said the cases had been pending for 14 years and not a single witness had appeared in court.

Terming the charges against the Sharif family as politically motivated, the court said these had no factual bases.

However,
by candlelight every wench is handsome...
another reference accusing the Sharif family of defaulting over a bank loan in relation to Ittefaq Foundries is yet to proceed in the accountability court.

Olde Tyme Religion
Exorcists Warn Of Danger From Oklahoma City Black Mass
[BREITBART] While there are variations in Christian theology about the nature of Satan and demons, traditional Christian thought holds that these creatures are evil, the threat from them is real and should be taken seriously. Exactly what self-proclaimed "satanists" think about all this is unclear, other than that they make a public show of worshiping Satan and calling upon demons for assistance.

Thus, it may be that the Oklahoma City satanists, who call themselves the Dakhma Angra Mainyu, believe that the black mass they're holding on Sunday, Sept. 21, at the Oklahoma City Civic Center, is harmless fun, or a deliberate insult to Catholics (since the "black mass" is a perverted parody of the Catholic Mass), or even a serious attempt to call upon dark forces.

But according to the beliefs of a priest from the neighboring Diocese of Tulsa, both those putting on the event and those attending--although poorly attended in the past, this year's event has sold out all 88 tickets--may be in spiritual peril.

Even though the event has been tamed a bit to comply with state law (the usually naked female "altar" will have lingerie; and vinegar is being substituted for urine) and it will no longer feature a Consecrated Host (after a legal challenge, organizer Adam Daniels returned his pilfered Communion wafer to the Church, specifically, Archbishop Coakley of Oklahoma City), Monsignor Patrick Brankin is worried.

Msgr. Brankin, the official exorcist for his diocese for the last four years, said to the Cathoic website Aleteia, "I am profoundly relieved that this group has returned to Archbishop Coakley the Consecrated Host which they intended to desecrate, but am still concerned that they have not backed away from all the other blasphemies and sacrileges involved in this ritual worship of Satan."
