Taliban talking to US from position of strength
[DAWN] While sharing his views about the ongoing negotiations between the United States and the Taliban
...mindless ferocity in a turban...
, renowned foreign policy author Ahmed Rashid on Sunday said the Taliban were talking from a position of strength as they controlled more territory than the Afghan government.

"What I think is crucial is that the Taliban have now found an America that is willing to talk. Even the initiative taken by Richard Holbrooke and other American diplomats in the past ‐ never had the full backing of the President or the US establishment. Now the Taliban are finding that Trump is determined to pull out and this was his promise to his own voter base in the US," said Mr Rashid on the concluding day of Adab Festival, which was held at Governor House.

At the session titled ’In conversation with Ahmed Rashid’, being moderated by journalist Zahid Hussain, the author was asked about his take on Afghan peace negotiations.

"I want to know what has made the Trump administration take this more seriously? And as reports are coming in from Afghanistan that the Taliban are much more powerful than ever and more than 55 per cent of Afghan territory is supposed to be under their control. What has led the Taliban to negotiate, they have always talked about talking to the Americans and refused to have any interaction with the Kabul government, do you think now the Taliban are talking from a position of strength?" asked Mr Hussain.

are set to meet in Russia this week, as the United States says it's making "significant progress" in its negotiations with the group.

The Taliban confirmed on Sunday, it will send a delegation to Russia for a two-day meeting starting on Tuesday in Moscow.

The Taliban refuses to recognise Ghani's government, calling it a "puppet" of the US.

Ghani has repeatedly called on the Taliban to begin talks with his government.

He was excluded from six days of discussions between the gang and the US in Doha last month that reportedly sealed the outline of a peace deal.

"I call on the Taliban to... show their Afghan will, and accept Afghans' demand for peace, and enter serious talks with the Afghan government," Ghani said in a televised address from the presidential palace in Kabul last week.

ONLF Rebel Group Abandons Arm Struggle
[RADIOSHABELLE] The Ogaden National Liberation Front
...the Turkic paramilitaries intended to replace with their native jihadi ferocity all the highly trained Turkish soldiers Sultan Erdogan I the much beloved has jailed in the last few years for not worshipping the ground he walks upon. The Uighurs and so forth who did not join Al Nusra or ISIS seem to have ended up here...
(ONLF) in Æthiopia will be fully abandoning arm struggle in the coming few days, says a top Somali region official.

The Front has agreed to fully disarm and engage in a peaceful political dialog by fully abandoning its decades old arm struggle strategy, according to Mustafa Mohammed Omar, the recently appointed Deputy President of Somali region of Æthiopia.

Mr. Mustaffa, who took over the leadership of Somali region from Abdi Illey a few months ago told the state broadcaster ‐ ETV that I the coming few days the ONLF will be fully disarmed.

It is indicated that The Front made the decision following the agreement recently reached with the federal government to abandon the arm struggle and fully focus on peaceful political discourse.

"...Because of the political change in Æthiopia and they are convinced that the current condition is conducive for them to advance their political struggle peacefully...In the coming three four days they will fully move their force to the government and the issue will be resolved," Mustafa said.

So far many of the gang members are already disarmed voluntarily because they are convinced that there is a space for them to pursue peaceful political discourse in Æthiopia.

The people in Somali region of Æthiopia have been suffering for long and deserve peace and development, according to Mustafa.

advocate Reem El Debri, said she assumed that the West would support the son of the ex-Libyan president, Saif al-Islam Qadaffy, in his bid to become president of the North African country, during an interview from Cairo on Friday.

"I think now they [the West] start understanding there’s a mistake they were doing in Libya before. Now they are suffering from this problem. I think they want to solve it and go out of all of this that is happening in Libya. I think they are going to support [the bid]," she said.

El Debri went on to describe why she thought Saif al-Islam could be considered a good choice for Libya.. She said in 2011 he had predicted the exact situation the country now faces.

"Dr. Saif al-Islam has good projects for Libya. He tried to work with the West to solve all these problems. He did many things to make Libya to be a new Libya," she stated.

Retired Dutch General Patrick Cammaert chaired the meeting aboard a UN vessel docked off the coast of the flashpoint city of Hodeida after the rebels refused to hold talks in government-held areas, the official told AFP on condition of anonymity.

The official said the meeting would address the implementation of an agreement reached in Sweden in December that calls for a ceasefire in rebel-held Hodeida, a pullback of forces from the port city and the opening of humanitarian corridors.

The Red Sea port is the entry point for the bulk of Yemen's imported goods and humanitarian aid, providing a lifeline to millions in the Arab world's poorest country.

Thousands join protest in support of Turkey hunger strikers
Raw courage on display, to come out publically against the neo-Ottoman Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan I, the much beloved.
[IsraelTimes] Demonstrators back government critic MP Leyla Guven and 250 other prisoners who are demanding better conditions for Kurdish leader Ocalan.

Thousands of protesters Sunday joined a rally in Istanbul called by a pro-Kurdish party to show support for hunger strikes against the prison conditions of Kurdish turban leader Abdullah Ocalan.

The protesters gathered at a square in Bakirkoy on the European side of Istanbul, with police tightening security measures.

"I am saluting my friends resisting in prisons. They are our honor, they are not alone," Fahit Ulas, a supporter of the Peoples’ Democratic Party (HDP).

"If needed we will sacrifice our bodies for this cause. We have no fear," he added.

Some 250 prisoners all over The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
have launched hunger strikes in support of HDP politician Leyla Guven, who wants to pressure the Ottoman Turkish government to allow Ocalan to hold regular meetings with his lawyers and family members.

Ocalan, one of the founders of the outlawed Kurdistan Workers’ Party (PKK), has been serving a life sentence on a prison island off Istanbul since his 1999 capture.

The 55-year-old Guven was tossed in the slammer
Please don't kill me!
in January 2018 for her criticism of Turkey’s military operation against a Syrian Kurdish militia.

Last week, a Ottoman Turkish court in Kurdish majority city Diyarbakir freed her under judicial supervision. Guven, who entered the 88th day of her hunger strike on Sunday, launched the protest move on November 8 while in jail.

She told AFP in an interview on Wednesday that she would press on with the hunger strike at home.

Garo Paylan, an HDP MP who joined the Istanbul protest, said choosing a hunger strike was a "last remedy," hoping Guven’s demand would be met as soon as possible.

"We want this demand to be fulfilled before any death," he told AFP.

In 2012, hundreds of Kurdish prisoners ended a 68-day hunger strike after Ocalan urged them to do so.

The HDP party remains under the scrutiny of Ottoman Turkish authorities, which accuse it of links to the PKK. Several of its MPs are behind bars, including former party leader Selahattin Demirtas.

First polio case of 2019 detected in Bajaur
[DAWN] A new polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
case emerged in Bajaur tribal district on Saturday, bringing the total number of such cases to six in the region over the last three months.

Head of the health department Dr Wazir Khan while talking to news hounds confirmed the latest detection of the polio case in the region.

He said that the case, which according to him is the first case in 2019, had been reported in Inayat Kalli area of Khar tehsil where an 11-month-old child named Javid Khan was diagnosed with the virus.

To check the presence of polio various, the official said that a team of health officials had visited the said area twice and had collected stool samples from the child.

Dr Khan said the first sample from the child was collected on Jan 21 while the second was taken on Jan 22.

He said that stool samples were then sent to the National Institute of Health Islamabad which confirmed it to be a polio case on Feb 1.

To a question, the official said that the affected child had been given seven doses of anti-polio drops, recalling that he had also been administered drops in the recent vaccination drive which ended last week.

Israeli report claims terrorists have ‘infiltrated’ Palestinian NGOs
Sunlight helps others live up to their oft-stated principles. Ynet has a cute little multicolour diagram of all the connections.
[IsraelTimes] Strategic Affairs Ministry says it found over 100 ’links’ between Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, and PFLP and Western-backed groups promoting BDS.

An Israeli government report accused some Western-backed Paleostinian NGOs of having close ties with current and former terrorists, some of whom have shifted to battling the country through nonviolent means.

In a 80-page report, the Strategic Affairs Ministry pointed to several high-profile Paleostinian activists who it said were former or current members of Hamas or the Popular Front for the Liberation of Paleostine, both of which are terror groups.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Bitcoin in the service of Hamas
[Ynet] Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth", is turning to cryptocurrency in its latest step to evade Israeli intelligence efforts to cut off its funding for military operations; appeals to supporters to recognize benefits of anonymous funding option.

The security establishment is expressing concern after the military wing of Hamas made a decision to alter its financial strategy and use the virtual cryptocurrency Bitcoin.

Ever since its founding, Hamas has played a cat and mouse game with Israeli intelligence agencies in an effort to conceal the complex channels that fund its operations, using various banks and currency exchangers. Israel has often succeeded in uncovering and cutting off many of those channels, especially as the technology it uses has become more advanced.

But this week, Hamas released a statement saying: "Israel is fighting the resistance by trying to cut off its support, but supporters of the resistance all over the world are fighting the Zionist attempts and are working to find alternative methods to support it. We call upon all supporters of the resistance and of our just cause to support it through Bitcoin, through means that we will announce soon."

Hamas is essentially adopting a strategy long used by Hezbollah and ISIS to fund their terror activities through channels that are virtually untraceable. Iran also uses cryptocurrencies for projects it wishes to keep under the radar.

Bitcoin transactions have no identifying mark that can reveal who the money is coming from or going to. Each transaction creates a new address so that each user can potentially have thousands of addresses in their virtual wallet making Bitcoin attractive for terror organizations like Hamas, which has a military budget of about a quarter billion dollars annually.

Since releasing the statement, Hamas has engaged in a public information campaign to explain the benefits of virtual currency, primarily the anonymity factor.

Paleostinian sources maintain that the campaign demonstrates the financial troubles of the terrorist organization’s military wing but the main factor seems to be that Hamas has upped its game with regards to blurring the fingerprints of the financial channels that fund its military operations including weapons smuggling, rocket manufacturing, tunnel digging, training commando squads and improving its intelligence capabilities in Gazoo.

Iran, Hezbollah control new Lebanese government, claims Netanyahu
[ALMASDARNEWS] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu claimed that Iran "controls" the new government of Leb via Hezbollah, during an address to a United Nations
...the Oyster Bay money pit...
delegation in Jerusalem on Sunday. He made the remarks ahead of the delegates’ tour along the Lebanese border where Israel says it has uncovered Hezbollah infiltration tunnels.

The Israeli prime minister described Hezbollah as a proxy of Iran, claiming that the idea it had simply joined the newly-formed Lebanese cabinet was a "misnomer."

"Iran has proxies. One of them is Hezbollah. Hezbollah just joined the government of Leb ‐ that’s a misnomer, they actually control the government of Leb, and that means that Iran controls the government of Leb," he stated.

Netanyahu stated that Israel would "stop all the aggression," whether from Leb or Syria or from Iran itself.

"Israel is very, very advanced in combating terrorism, in using intelligence and other sophisticated means to fight terrorism," he stated.

"We’re committed to preventing this aggression, and in so doing, we’re not only protecting ourselves, Israel itself, but also protecting our neighbours and world peace," Netanyahu added.

The Israeli prime minister told the ambassadors that there was an "absurd" imbalance between the UN’s focus on Israel and on other areas of the world.

This year there have been "20 resolutions against Israel, and just six against other countries," he said.

The new Lebanese government was announced on Thursday, after a nine-month-long deadlock, with Hezbollah controlling three ministries, including the Health Ministry.

SDF officially denies capturing Baghdadi in eastern Syria
Darn it. Better luck next time, guys.
[ALMASDARNEWS] Kino Gabriel, a spokesperson for the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) and General Command of the Syrian Military Council, has debunked the rumors the self-proclaimed caliph His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
could have been captured by the US-backed Kurdish fighters.

"These reports are baseless, with no evidence. He has not been captured", Gabriel told Fox News.

Over this week, there’s been much speculation on social media and beyond that the SDF had seized the ISIS* leader during their offensive on the terrorist group.

Baghdadi, who remains the world’s most wanted man, is believed to be alive and hiding on the Euphrates banks even though he has repeatedly been reported to have been killed or gravely injured.

"Iraqi intelligence is following Baghdadi and we believe he never stays in one place for more than one day. We have information he still moved from towns in Syria and entered the Iraq border through Anbar with movement to bordering Salahuddin", said Abu Ali al-Basri, director general of Iraq’s intelligence office at the Ministry of Interior.

Fox News cited several political and security analysts, who suggested that the ISIS leader, who may be hiding in the Syrian desert, is trying to stay under-the-radar by wearing modern clothes, driving a simple car and not using mobiles.

Basri told the media outlet that two of the last people to meet with him were Ismail al Essawai, a ISIS member of the Education Committee, and Jamal Khalil al Mashadani, the ISIS leader in Kirkuk last November. Ten days after the alleged meeting, Mashadani was detained by Iraq’s National Intelligence Service.

In October, he was reported to have ordered the execution of 320 of his followers, including senior commanders, for "disloyalty" and "recklessness".

IRGC warns Iran will have ‘no option’ but to grow missile program if pressed by EU
[ALMASDARNEWS] Iran’s policy of limiting the capabilities of its missile forces will change if European powers and others continue to try to force the country to leave itself defenseless, Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps second-in-command Brig. Gen. Hossein Salami has warned, PressTV reports.

"If the Europeans and others want to pursue the missile disarmament of the Islamic Theocratic Republic of Iran based on a conspiracy, we will have no option but to resort to a strategic leap," Salami said.

"Our defence strategy can change commensurate with the conditions and changes in the behaviour of the players," Salami added.

According to the officer, Iran is maintaining a cap on the range and power of its missiles based on the country’s defensive strategy, even though technically, it does not face any limitations in terms of improving its arsenal.

"All that hear me today, come to terms with the new reality of Iran’s missile might: there are no obstacles or technical limitations to us increasing [the missiles’] range," he said.

In recent months, the US and several of its European allies, including La Belle France, have voiced concerns over Iran’s arsenal of rockets and missile testing activity, threatening sanctions against the country and claiming that the testing activity violates the terms of the 2015 nuclear deal.

Iran said to put ‘guided warheads’ on missiles that can reach Israel

[IsraelTimes] State media says the new Khoramshahr 2 is highly accurate and can carry two-ton payloads up to 2,000 kilometers (1,250 miles), which can hit Israel and US bases in the Gulf. It said that the new warheads had previously been mounted on the shorter range Emad, Qadr and Qiam missiles.
