Afghanistan
Junbish slams Gulbuddin Hekmatyar for his remarks regarding the new coalition
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Junbish-e-Millie party led by the first vice president General Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
has slammed the emir of Hezb-e-Islami regarding the new political coalition.

A front man for the party Bashir Ahmad Tahyanj said Hekmatyar should focus on implementation of his commitments and promises regarding the peace and stability of Afghanistan rather than having concerns regarding the new coalition.

Tahyanj further added that the new coalition has its own plans and programs for Afghanistan and therefore there is no room for the concerns of Hekmatyar.

Speaking to foreign news hounds nearly two weeks ago, Hekmatyar slammed the bigwigs actively working in the government for forming new anti-government political coalitions.

He said considering the internal situation of Afghanistan and its regional position, a strong central government is always a need along with a president who has full authorities, insisting that without this it would be difficult to ensure peace and bring stability in the country.

The leader of Hezb-e-Islami questioned the current government’s authorities, saying when a president is even prevented from appointing a governor by the internal and external circles, how such a government would be able to eliminate violence and govern on the nation.

Hekmatyar also criticized the senior government officials for the formation of the new political coalitions and expressed concern
...meaning the brow was mildly wrinkled, the eyebrows drawn slightly together, and a thoughtful expression assumed, not that anything was actually done or indeed that any thought was actually expended...
s regarding the threats, show of power, and rallies by their armed supporters.

He said billions of dollars have been embezzled, banks have been looted, hundreds of acres of land have been grabbed, and the government remains weak to try the perpetrators.

'Afghanistan to become graveyard for US,' warn Taliban after Trump clears way for more troops
[DAWN] The Taliban
...Arabic for students...
warned on Tuesday that Afghanistan would become a "graveyard" for the United States after President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
cleared the way for thousands more American troops to be sent to the war-torn country.

"If America doesn't withdraw its troops, soon Afghanistan will become another graveyard for this superpower in the 21st century," Taliban front man Zabiullah Mujahid said in a statement.

The Taliban further dismissed Donald Trump's strategy for Afghanistan as vague and "nothing new".

"For now I can tell you there was nothing new in his speech and it was very unclear," Mujahid told AFP.

#2  Every speech of trump is clear. The media ensures that not even cockroaches hoping to outlast us, hiding in the mantle will miss it.

The 'front man' Mujahid seems either deaf, or just attention deficit challenged.

"And , Mujjy ? What else did he say ? "

"Errr... uhh, nahh.. same old kafaar shit."

"well, they said a new plan is in effect ! So what did he state ?"

" Ohhh ... uhhh... ah ! Time for Namaaz ! "

Trump strategy won't solve Afghan problems, say analysts
[DAWN] United States (US) President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
has vowed success in Afghanistan, but analysts say his strategy contains nothing new against enemies which his predecessors could not defeat ─ a sobering assessment that points to endless war for weary civilians.
Depends on whether he's willing to level Mir Ali or Dera Ismail Khan.
Or Islamabad.

The US and Afghan governments face formidable opponents in the ascendant Taliban
...the Pashtun equivalent of men...
, weak and corrupt Afghan institutions and meddling regional powers ─ plus the growing menace of the Lion of Islam Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

The US president vowed to leave American boots on the ground indefinitely while turning away from nation-building.

But his refusal to release details and define the conditions for victory have raised fears America's involvement in the conflict may never end.

"Strategy is about matching means to ends. I think we heard a lot about ends but rather little about means," James Der Derian, from the Centre for International Security Studies at the University of Sydney, told AFP.

Trump backtracked from previous promises to end America's longest-ever war during a primetime speech late Monday, paving the way for thousands more US soldiers to be sent to Afghanistan.

While he refused to offer detailed troop numbers, senior White House officials said he had already authorised US Defence Secretary James Mattis to deploy up to 3,900 more troops to Afghanistan.

There are currently 8,500 US personnel in-country who are largely restricted to NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....

Former Klingon Director: President Trump Afghan Strategy Similar to Soetoro's
[Breitbart] Monday on CNN’s "The Lead," while discussing President Donald Trump’s upcoming speech on Afghanistan, former CIA and NSA director Gen. Michael Hayden said Trump’s strategy in Afghanistan was likely "the decision that President Obama would have made."

Hayden said, "You know what the goods news is? It’s that the decision the president is going to announce tonight is the product of what I would call regular order. This isn’t a tweet in the middle of the night. This is a result of long deliberations within the national security council, discussions with the president, a decision by the president. And now the president is going to lay out the decision in a full-fledged speech so that he can put it into a broader context. So that’s the good news with regard to what’s happening tonight."

He added, "Frankly, this is probably the decision that President Obama would have made, harvesting the lessons for his 2011 decision in Iraq, but he delayed it. He deferred to the incoming administration for what I think are quite legitimate reasons. But now we have President Trump, who quite often campaigned with a completely different tone, embracing what I think the previous administration would have done."

Africa Subsaharan
UN: Boko Haram use of kids as 'human bombs' soars in 2017
[Ynet] UNICEF is reporting a four-fold increase in use of children as "human bombs" by the radical Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
group in northeastern Nigeria already this year compared to all of 2016.

UNICEF spokeswoman Marixie Mercado says she has no explanation for the increase to 83 such "human bomb" children, two-thirds of them girls, compared to 19 total children last year.

She said Boko Haram does not always claim responsibility for such attacks typically against civilian targets, but no other groups are known to use the tactic.

A side-effect is that "many children who have managed to get away from captivity face rejection when they try to reintegrate into their communities."

The UN estimates the insurgency has displaced 1.7 million people and left an estimated 20,000 people dead since 2009.

Trump’s Afghan strategy will cause more bloodshed, terrorism: Corbyn
[Iran Press TV] UK Labour Party leader Jeremy Corbyn has called on the British government not to “obediently applaud” US President Donald Trump’s plan for the deployment of additional troops to Afghanistan and more bombing, saying the new American strategy will cause more bloodshed, and increase terrorism.

Judge frees Spain terror suspect, orders two to be held without bail and detains fourth for 72 hours - as it is revealed ISIS document was found in suspected bomb factory
[DailyMail]
  • Mohammed Aallaa, whose car was used during Cambrils attack, has been freed, but passport taken and must report weekly

  • Mohammed Houli Chemlal, the bombmaker who was pulled from the rubble of the bomb factory, and Driss Oukabir, who admitted he rented van used in Barcelona attack, to be held without bail

  • Sahal El Karib, who owns an internet cafe in Ripoll, will be held for 72 hours

  • Judge ruled on cases as he revealed ISIS document was found inside ruins of suspected bomb factory used by the group

  • More raids carried out in the town of Vilafranca del Penedes on Tuesday night

  • Two of the suspects said Imam Abdelbaki Es Satty, who preached at a mosque in Ripoll, was the mastermind, the other two claimed not to know him

  • Moroccan police have arrested one person and are investigating three others in connection with the terror attacks. The four include the parents of one of those in custody and Nourine Oukabir, cousin of brothers Driss and Moussa
Breitbart adds more about the good imam's history:
Abdelbaki Es Satty, 40, lived with Mohammed Mrabet Fahsi in Vilanova i la Geltru, a coastal town about 30 miles southwest of Barcelona between 2003 and 2005.

Mr. Fahsi was accused of recruiting fighters for jihadist causes in Iraq and Syria. He was jugged
Drop the gat, Rocky, or you're a dead 'un!
in 2006 in Spain as he prepared to move to the United Kingdom, and locked away
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
for funding terrorism.

A Salafi mosque in the town of Vilanova i la Geltru, is reported to have been known for preaching a radical message.

Three other al Qaeda suspects also stayed in the flat, including Belgacem Bellil, an Algerian who went kaboom! in Iraq in 2003, killing 14 Italians and nine Iraqis.

The radical group living in Vilanova i la Geltru had contact with another terror cell in Santa Coloma de Gramenet, north of Barcelona, which helped the Madrid bombers to escape, local media reported.

Es Satty spent at least two years in prison from 2012 for smuggling cannabis between North Africa and Spain, El Periodico newspaper reported. There, he befriended Rachid Aglif, who was locked away
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
for 18 years for the Madrid atrocity in which 192 people died.

Iran denies joint operation against Kurds with Turkey
[AlAhrqm] Iran's Revolutionary Guards on Tuesday denied claims by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

"We have not planned any operations outside Iran's borders," said a statement from the Guards' regional ground forces headquarters published by the ISNA news agency.

"But as always we will strongly confront any group, team or person who wants to penetrate into Iran's territory for anti-security or terrorist operations," it added.

The statement came a day after Ottoman Turkish President Sultan Recep Tayyip Erdogan the First

Home Front: WoT
US Navy to dismiss commander after collisions
[Iran Press TV] The US Navy is dismissing the commander of the fleet that has suffered four recent collisions in Asia, including two involving fatalities, according to reports.

Vice Admiral Joseph Aucoin, the commander of the US Seventh Fleet based in Yokosuka, Japan, will be relieved of command on Wednesday in connection with recent deadly collisions, the Wall Street Journal reported on Tuesday, citing US officials.

"An expedited change in leadership was needed," a US official told Rooters late on Tuesday, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
This comes following an accident on Monday in which the guided-missile destroyer USS John S. McCain collided with a merchant ship off Singapore, leaving 10 sailors missing.

The USS John S. McCain collided with the oil tanker Alnic MC on Monday morning local time while the guided-missile destroyer was passing near the Malacca Strait to make a port visit in Singapore, the Navy's 7th Fleet said in a statement.

The sailors are feared dead as US Pacific Fleet Commander Admiral Scott Swift has announced that divers searching for the missing service members have found human remains in the warship.

"The divers were able to locate some remains in those sealed compartments during their search today," Swift told news hounds on Tuesday at Singapore's Changi Naval Base, where the damaged warship is docked.

Swift also said that Malaysian authorities, one of three countries involved in the major hunt for the missing sailors who are feared dead, had also found a body.

He added that the US Navy was trying to identify the body to see if it was one of 10 missing US sailors in the accident.

In June, another guided-missile destroyer, the USS Fitzgerald, collided with the Philippine-flagged merchant ship ACX Crystal 56 nautical miles southwest of Yokosuka, Japan. Seven US sailors were killed in that collision.
Since it's been years since something similar happened, it's good to look for a reason. Pakistan disappointed by Trump’s accusations of supporting terrorism
Talk to us when Hafiz Saeed is dead.
[Iran Press TV] Pakistain has voiced its "disappointment" over remarks made by US President Donald Trump

"No country in the world has suffered more than Pakistain from the scourge of terrorism, often perpetrated from outside our borders. It is, therefore disappointing that the US policy statement ignores the enormous sacrifices rendered by the Pak nation in this effort," said a statement released by Pakistain’s Foreign Ministry on Tuesday.

The statement was released after Trump said Washington can no longer remain silent about Pakistain providing "safe havens for terrorists."

#6  Thanks, Besoeker. Are you sure Abbotabad isn't in India or Japan or Australia? Maybe even Saudi Arabia? Antarctica maybe? Well, wherever it may be, surely his safe house wouldn't be within a stone's throw of a military base. That would be too obvious.

After Trump's Afghan policy statement, China reaffirms support to Pakistan
[DAWN] Chinese Foreign Minister Wang Yi on Tuesday reaffirmed Beijing's support to Pakistan during a meeting with Foreign Secretary Tehmina Janjua hours after US President Donald Trump lambasted Pakistan for allegedly offering safe haven to "agents of chaos" in his South Asia policy announcement.
We guessed that.
Earlier, as Beijing came to Islamabad's defence in light of Trump's remarks, Chinese Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Hua Chunying asserted that Pakistan was on the front line in the struggle against terrorism and had made "great sacrifices" and "important contributions" in the fight, according to a Foreign Ministry handout.

FO rejects Trump's allegations of terrorist 'safe havens' in Pakistan
[DAWN] The Foreign Office (FO) on Tuesday rejected United States (US) President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
's allegations that Pakistain offers safe haven to "agents of chaos", as he announced America's new strategy on Afghanistan and South Asia.
"Rejecting" it makes it not so.
Talking tough on Pakistain, Trump had said, "We can no longer be silent about Pakistain's safe havens for terrorist organizations," warning that vital aid to Islamabad could be cut.

"We have been paying Pakistain billions and billions of dollars at the same time they are housing the very gunnies that we are fighting," he said. "That will have to change and that will change immediately."

The FO, issuing a rejoinder to the US president's statements said: "As a matter of policy, Pakistain does not allow use of its territory against any country. Instead of relying on the false narrative of safe havens, the US needs to work with Pakistain to eradicate terrorism."
Next step is to complain about Afghanistan harboring Mullah Fazlullah.
The FO said it is "disappointing that the US policy statement ignores the enormous sacrifices rendered by the Pak nation" in the fight against terrorism.
It's disappointing the Paks had Osama bin Laden living a half mile down the road from the national military academy and somehow didn't notice. It's disappointing that Mullah Omar died in a Pak hospital, and that his successor was dronezapped in Pakistain.
"No country in the world has done more than Pakistain to counter the menace of terrorism. No country in the world has suffered more than Pakistain from the scourge of terrorism, often perpetrated from outside our borders," the FO asserted.
No country in the world has more internationally recognized terror groups within its borders than Pakistain, with their leaders walking around openly and their operations continuing routinely.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
In light of terrorism, support for Israel in Iraq rises
From August 8th, but still of interest.
[Ynet] The Israeli Foreign Ministry is surprised to receive thousands of messages from Iraq in support of Israel in light of the crisis on the Temple Mount and recent terror attacks, with Iraqis saying they 'recognize the State of Israel,' and even calling Paleostinians 'traitors and terrorists.'

Against the backdrop of the events on the Temple Mount and the recent terrorist attacks, the Foreign Ministry in Jerusalem was very surprised to see a dramatic increase in the number of Israel sympathizers in Iraq.

Yonatan Gonen, head of Arabic-language digital diplomacy at the Foreign Ministry, who also runs the Foreign Ministry's Facebook and Twitter accounts, said that the ministry has been flooded with pictures and messages of sympathy, support and even a desire to establish relations between the two countries.

Outgoing EU ambassador: 'Israel has much to learn from us in war on terror'
[Ynet] Concluding his mission to Israel, Ambassador Lars Faaborg-Andersen commends Israel’s operational handling of terrorism, but insists it could attach greater import to educational counter-terror methods; laments tendency to view EU-Israel ties as icy, cites widespread cooperation and acknowledges Israel provides ’highest caliber’ info on ISIS to Europe.

#1  Is this Lars' way of announcing his upcoming career as a standup comedian?

#2  Listen up, Juices, while your euro-betters show you how it's done. While it is tempting to unlimber the snark, you really can't do better than Lars' own words:

"Europe has adopted a more holistic approach to the war on terror—and Israel can definitely learn from European experience."

When asked whether he considered this "holistic approach" to be a success, Faaborg-Andersen admitted shortcomings, but praised the overall approach.

2 Israeli Jews converted to Islam, joined IS in Syria
[IsraelTimes] Woman, man who enlisted in terror group were both born in former Soviet Union and raised in Israel, according to Shin Bet; Interior Ministry set to strip citizenship of 19 jihadists

Two Israeli Jews have converted to Islam and joined the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Syria, according to the Shin Bet security agency.

The two were named on a list of 20 Israeli citizens, one of whom is now deceased, who joined the ranks of the jihadist group, Israel’s Channel 2 news reported Tuesday.

The two Israelis were born Jewish in the Soviet Union, immigrated to Israel at a young age, grew up in Israel, then converted to Islam as adults and traveled to Syria to join the ranks of IS. It was not immediately clear when the two left the country.

One, a 28-year-old woman, grew up in Ashdod. The other, Alex, a 32-year-old man, grew up in Lod.

Alex’s sister, who was not identified, told the TV station the family was in "shock" and is not in touch with him.

The list was drawn up for Interior Minister Aryeh Deri after a law went into effect this week allowing him to strip members of foreign terror organizations of their Israeli citizenship.

The list was made up mostly of Israeli Arabs, including two each from the towns of Fureidis, Kafr Kassem, Jaljoulya, Be’ena and East Jerusalem.

One person on the list died recently, while the list was being drawn up.

Deri is expected to formally strip them of their citizenship in the coming weeks.

The security service periodically releases information about individual Israelis who have left the country to join IS.

as he attempted to join the Islamic State terrorist group in Syria, after expressing support for the group over the past year and a half. The suspect, Valentin Vladmir Mazlevski, a 39-year-old father of five, moved to Israel from Belarus in 1996 at age 18 and converted to Islam four years later, while he was serving in the Israel Defense Forces, the Shin Bet said.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Iran warns it can make weapons-grade material in days if nuke deal scotched
Unexpectedly much like what Israeli prime minister Bibi Netanyahu has been saying for years.
[IsraelTimes] Statement seen as indication Tehran willing to push back against Trump, who has threatened to scrap the 2015 sanctions-lifting agreement

Iran’s atomic chief warned Tuesday the Islamic Theocratic Republic needs only five days to ramp up its uranium enrichment to 20 percent, a level at which the material could be used for a nuclear weapon.

The comments by Ali Akbar Salehi to Iranian state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
come as US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
repeatedly has threatened to renegotiate or walk away from the 2015 nuclear deal.

Salehi’s warning, along with recent comments by Iranian President Hassan Rouhani, show Iran is willing to push back against Trump while still acknowledging they want to keep the deal, which lifted crippling economic sanctions on the country.

"If there is a plan for a reaction and a challenge, we will definitely surprise them," said Salehi, who also serves as one of Rouhani’s vice presidents. "If we make the determination, we are able to resume 20 percent-enrichment in at most five days."

He added: "Definitely, we are not interested in such a thing happening. We have not achieved the deal easily to let it go easily. We are committed to the deal and we are loyal to it."

Iran gave up the majority of its stockpile of 20-percent enriched uranium as part of the nuclear deal it struck with world powers, including Trump’s predecessor, president Barack Obama
I am not a dictator!...
. The accord, which lifted sanctions on Iran, currently caps the Islamic Theocratic Republic uranium enrichment at 5 percent.

While Iran long has maintained its nuclear program is for peaceful purposes, uranium enriched to 20 percent and above can be used in nuclear bombs. Iran processed its stockpile of near 20 percent uranium into a lower enrichment, turned some into fuel plates to power a research reactor and shipped the rest to Russia as part of the deal.

The B.O. regime and most independent experts said at the time of the deal that Iran would need at least a year after abandoning the deal to have enough nuclear material to build a bomb. Before the deal was struck, they said the timeframe for Iran to "break out" toward a bomb was a couple of months.

While the economic benefits of the deal have yet to reach the average Iranian, airlines in the country have signed deals for billions of dollars of aircraft from Airbus and Boeing. Car manufacturers and others have swept into the Iranian market as well as the country has boosted its oil sales. Abandoning the deal would put those economic gains in jeopardy.

Rouhani, a moderate holy man within Iran’s theocratically overseen government, warned last week that it could ramp up its nuclear program and quickly achieve a more advanced level if the US continues "threats and sanctions" against his country.

Rouhani’s comments were sparked by Trump signing a sanctions bill imposing mandatory penalties on people involved in Iran’s ballistic missile program and anyone who does business with them. The US legislation also applies terrorism sanctions to Iran’s Revolutionary Guard and enforces an existing arms embargo.
