HoR approves amnesty law
[Libya Herald] In what is being seen as a deliberately timed challenge to today's verdicts in the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
court case against Saif Al-Islam and other Qadaffy regime leading officials, the House of Representatives (HoR) in Tobruk has approved an amnesty law for crimes committed by all Libyans from 15 February 2011 till now.

However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
there are many exclusions. The Beida office of the Libyan news agency LANA has quoted HoR member Tariq Geroushi saying that the amnesty does not cover terrorism, murder, kidnapping, torture, drug trafficking, sex crimes, assault, smuggling or corruption. It is thought that robbery is also included among the exceptions.

There was said to be a majority of the 99 members present at today's session in favour of the bill.

The need for an amnesty for Qadaffy-era officials not involved in serious crimes has been stressed by many members of the HoR and other leading Libyan figures. However,
if you can't say something nice about a person some juicy gossip will go well...
there have also ben many calls from political figures and well as on Libyan social media that those who have committed crimes since the revolution, particularly members of militias, be held accountable and punished.

Death sentences cause little surprise in Tripoli
[Libya Herald] It was no surprise. Nine of the 37 Qadaffy regime defendants on trial in Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
have been sentenced to death by firing squad. Among them Saif Al-Islam, Muammar Qadaffy
...Custodian of Wheelus AFB for 42 long years until he was ejected from the gene pool by his indignant citizens...
's son, as well as Abdullah Senussi, the former chief of the military intelligence, Abuzeid Dorda, the ex-head of the spy service, and Al-Baghdadi Al-Mahmoudi, the former prime minister. They were all accused of war crimes, of having brought mercenaries to Libya and of have caused divisions among Libyan tribes.
Though as we now observe, Libya's tribes are fully capable of divisions -- and violence resulting therefrom -- without any outside help at all.
Eight others have been sentenced to life prison. The others will face more or less long prison sentences.

Jibril Kadiki, a former general and close to Saif Al-Islam fainted when he heard his sentence. Guards had to take him out of the courtroom. He was later taken to hospital by ambulance. Another defendant sentenced to death shouted: «Moslem Brüderbund, Al Qaeda, it is not fair justice» after the judge finished sentencing. Abdullah Senussi remained calm, his arms crossed on his chest. Abuzeid Dorda smiled from time to time, especially when journalists looked at him.

Right after the session, Ali Kabar, al-Mahmoudi's lawyer, said he would launch an appeal: "We weren't able to call our witnesses because they're afraid to come to Tripoli. The judgement has been too quick. We weren't able to examine closely the 4,000 pages of the case."

As in earlier sessions, the road in front of the court was closed off by heavy armed vehicles. More recently, though, security was much less strict and the road was open. The Libya Herald could, for the first time, see coppers with anti-riot equipment inside the courtroom building at Hadba prison.

But there were no pro or anti-Qadaffy demonstrations on the streets. In fact, the mood throughout the city was subdued and quiet. "Who cares about them anymore? Every Libyan knows they are guilty," a customer in a downtown coffee told this newspaper. "We're facing much more serious problems like the lack of money and terrorism."

Saif Al-Islam has not been present in the flesh in the courtroom since the beginning of the proceedings. He is being held by Zintanis who do not recognise the Tripoli-based administration. In a presser after the court session, the chief prosecutor, Siddiq El-Sur, said Saif el-Islam had been sentenced in absentia but claimed it was totally legal.

UNSMIL and international human rights organisations blast Qaddafi regime court case
[Libya Herald] The United Nations

have condemned both the conduct of the trial of Saif Al-Islam, Abdullah Senussi and 35 other Qadaffy regime figures and today's death sentences as unacceptable.

In separate scathing and detailed attacks on the trial issued within hours of the verdicts being announced, they criticised the proceedings as having been flawed and neither fair nor transparent.

"The trial did not meet international standards of fair trial in a number of ways," said Claudio Cordone, UNSMIL's Director of the Human Rights, Transitional Justice and Rule of Law.

All three bodies listed a catalogue of what they regarded as faults and injustices.

They said that defence lawyers had been threatened, had on many occasions been denied access to their clients or had not been able to see them in private, and not had full access to case files; that the accused on several occasions had been denied the right to legal counsel or had been interrogated without a lawyer present, had been allowed only two witnesses each (and that many of these had been too frightened to appear), had not been allowed to challenge the evidence brought against them, and were not always present at their trial; that those making allegations against the accused had not been called to court or cross-examined despite defence lawyers requests.

#1  The UN was very clear that the tribunal had to have a Western Gray Kangaroo for head magistrate. The Libyans, not liking to be told what to do by a bunch of diplomatic drones, chose a Giant Red Kangaroo and appointed three Wallabies and an Eastern Gray as the defense team.

That could be snark of the day, if I could understand what you were saying.

Africa Subsaharan
Cameroon Deploys 2,000 Extra Troops to Fight Boko Haram
[AnNahar] Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
will send around 2,000 extra troops to the north of the country to fight Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
, the Nigerian jihadist movement behind bloody cross-border raids and suicide kabooms, state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
said Tuesday.

"Almost 2,000 extra soldiers will be deployed in the Extreme North region," on the border with northeastern Nigeria, according to the report on Cameroon Radio-Television, which gave no timetable for the operation.

The reinforcements will raise to 8,500 the number of troops deployed to take on Boko Haram myrmidons, who have been attacking villages and towns inside Cameroon for two years, massacring and abducting civilians.

In the past fortnight, an unprecedented string of five suicide kabooms by Boko Haram in Cameroon has claimed dozens of lives, including 33 people killed by teenage girls in three attacks on the market town of Maroua.

Since Sunday, seven people were slain in village raids, three of whom had their heads chopped off, according to local security sources.

Cameroon has joined a regional campaign alongside Chad, Niger and Nigeria itself to battle Boko Haram, which has killed at least 15,000 people since 2009 in the name of founding an Islamic caliphate.

Several regions of the west African country have also banned the full Islamic veil after two women dressed in the religious garment blew themselves up in Fotokol, killing 10 civilians and a soldier from neighboring Chad.

On Monday, authorities confiscated 600 Islamic veils in the border city of Kousseri, across the Chari River from the Chadian capital N'Djamena, a police official said.

"We confiscated the veils worn by women on the streets," he added.

Motorcycles -- the jihadists' favored form of transport -- are also banned in the town's markets.

Nigerian President Muhammadu Buhari will travel to Cameroon on Wednesday for talks with President Paul Biya in a bid "to build a strong regional alliance to confront Boko Haram," Buhari's front man Garba Shehu told AFP.

After more than seven months of delay, the deployment of a long-awaited Multinational Joint Task Force of 8,700 soldiers, police and civilian personnel has been announced for the end of July.

Nigeria's small western neighbour, Benin, has been sitting in on high-level military talks and will be a part of the task force, to be based in N'Djamena.

The Chadian army is engaged in a major military operation against Boko Haram forces that have fallen back on the many islands of Lake Chad, a key location where the borders of Cameroon, Chad, Niger and Nigeria converge.

Kyrgyzstan's Security Service Probes IS Recruitment Video
[AnNahar] Kyrgyzstan's security service said Monday it was investigating a YouTube video urging citizens of the ex-Soviet country to move to the "caliphate" declared by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. jihadists in Iraq and Syria.

The nine-minute clip titled "Message to the People of Kyrgyzstan," appeared on YouTube on Saturday and was deleted hours later. It was picked up by a Kyrgyz news site known for covering the activities of IS.

"All the relevant state organs are examining this video material," a statement of the State Committee for National Security (GKNB) read Monday.

The clip features an unnamed man speaking in Kyrgyz calling on citizens to "move from the country of infidels to the land of the Islamic State."

The speaker calls Kyrgyzstan, which is majority-Moslem, a country of "dishonor", living "according to laws made up by people, such as democracy."

It was released days after Kyrgyz security services claimed they neutralized a cell of IS fighters in a deadly raid.

On July 17 the GNKB security force's chief Rakhat Sulaimanov confirmed the deaths of six murderous Moslems and the detention of a further seven in a special forces raid in the capital Bishkek. Sulaimanov said the suspects "were all Islamic State members."

His service claimed the murderous Moslems were targeting a Russian airbase in the country as well as civilian targets.

Kyrgyzstan's government designated IS as a terror group in March this year. It says more than 200 citizens are fighting with the group in Syria and Iraq.

Ammo, heroin confiscated from Dagestani Wahabi on bus to Moscow
[Interfax] Ammunition and drugs were confiscated from a Dagestani native going by bus to Moscow.

The press office of the Interior Ministry's main department in the North Caucasus Federal District said, "At the federal checkpoint Arteziansky during the identity check of passengers and the search on a bus going to Moscow by a sniffer dog the police have found and seized 21 rounds and a grenade with a fuse from a bag of a 39-year-old resident of village Babayurt in the Babayurt District."

Following this, a package with heroin was found in a bag for the man's documents. The passenger was arrested and brought to the police station. The press release said, "It was found that the detainee was on a preventive register as a person professing the Wahhabism radical creed."

Australian Charged with Trying to Join Kurds in Iraq
[AnNahar] A Melbourne man has been charged with attempting to leave for Iraq to fight with Kurdish forces against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group. Jamie Williams, 28, is accused of preparing to enter a foreign country with the intention of engaging in hostile activities -- which carries a maximum penalty of life imprisonment.

Williams was charged late Monday, seven months after he was stopped by customs officers at Melbourne airport as he tried to board a flight to Qatar
...an emirate on the east coast of the Arabian Peninsula. It sits on some really productive gas and oil deposits, which produces the highest per capita income in the world. They piss it all away on religion, financing the Moslem Brotherhood and several al-Qaeda affiliates...
, after being identified as a potential foreign fighter for Kurdish-aligned forces.

"At the time of the alleged departure various items of military-style equipment and clothing were located in his luggage," the Australian Federal Police and the Immigration Department said in a statement.

Williams, who fronted a brief hearing reportedly wearing a black T-shirt with the words "war dog" printed on it, did not apply for bail and was remanded in jug until October.

Federal police Assistant Commissioner for Counter Terrorism Neil Gaughan said planning to travel to Syria or Iraq to support the deadly conflict was "illegal and highly dangerous", regardless of which side people were on.

"There have been numerous warnings against participating in the current conflict in Syria and Iraq," he said. "While this individual did not actually travel, people need to be aware that actively planning and undertaking preparations to travel to the conflict area still constitutes a criminal offence."

Canberra's rhetoric on the issue has been stepped up in recent months as fears grow about the number of Australians fighting with jihadist groups and concern about the threat at home from radicalized individuals. About 120 Australians are believed to be fighting in Iraq and Syria, the vast majority with myrmidon groups. At least 30 have been killed, according to the government.

On Monday, an Australian nurse who allegedly joined Islamic State in Syria was remanded in jug in Melbourne on terror charges relating to carrying out guard duty and reconnaissance for them. Adam Brookman is accused of knowingly providing support to IS between April 2010 and August 2014 to help "prepare or foster" a terrorist act.

Europe
Iran a 'Formidable' Danger to Europe, Says Netanyahu
[AnNahar] Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu said Tuesday that Iran posed a "formidable" threat to Europe, accusing its proxy Hizbullah
...Party of God, a Leb militia inspired, founded, funded and directed by Iran. Hizbullah refers to itself as The Resistance and purports to defend Leb against Israel, with whom it has started and lost one disastrous war to date, though it did claim victory...
of operating cells across the continent.

Just last month, a member of the Lebanese group was tossed in the slammer
You have the right to remain silent...
in Cyprus for plotting attacks on Israeli targets on the Mediterranean island.

Netanyahu, on an official visit to Nicosia, said "Iran and Hizbullah organize a terrorist network that covers over 30 countries on five continents, including just about every country in Europe."

Iran and leading world powers signed a deal this month on Tehran's controversial nuclear program, an accord the Israeli leader criticized as a "stunning, historic mistake".

Netanyahu said Israel and Cyprus were faced with the dual dangers of Iran and the turban attacks perpetrated by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, which controls large parts of Iraq and Syria.

"ISIS obviously endangers European societies, Western societies, African societies, the whole world," the premier said, using an alternative acronym for IS.

"These are two formidable dangers. They are expressed in many weapons, in many attacks, but the most prevalent one that concerns Cyprus and Europe is of course the terrorism that emanates from these areas," he added.

Last month, a Cypriot court tossed in the slammer
You have the right to remain silent...
a Lebanese-Canadian man for six years after he pleaded guilty to terror charges linked to 8.2 tonnes of potential bomb-making material found in his home.

Authorities said the man was a member of the military wing of Hizbullah and had helped the group plan "terrorist attacks" on "Israeli interests in Cyprus".

Cyprus is not known for its bad boy activity despite its proximity to the Middle East.

But in 2013, a Cypriot court sentenced a Leb-born Swedish man who admitted he was a Hizbullah member, to four years in jail after he was found guilty of targeting Israelis on the island.

A botched kaboom on the Israeli embassy in 1988 claimed the lives of three people.

Israel has repeatedly criticized the Iran nuclear deal and insists it is not bound to respect Tehran's accord with the West.

Cypriot President Nicos Anastasiades said he and Netanyahu had discussed the accord, adding that Cyprus expressed "hope that this deal will help generate stability... and assist in addressing the security concerns of the State of Israel".

Tuesday's talks also focused on security, defense and the exploration of oil and gas reserves in the eastern Mediterranean, according to Anastasiades.

The Aphrodite field, discovered off Cyprus' southeast coast in 2011, is estimated to contain between 3.6 trillion and 6 trillion cubic feet (102 billion-170 billion cubic meters) of gas.

Israel has found large reserves off its own shoreline and the two countries are looking to cooperate on energy issues such as exporting Israeli nature gas.

"We think that by cooperating with each other we think that we can take it (natural gas) out more easily and market it better to the betterment of both our societies," Netanyahu said.

#6  From Ynet:

The opening shot of the battle for the defense budget

Analysis: In the battle over early retirement in the IDF, both sides are pulling no punches; the IDF says the Locker report will discriminate against female officers and scare off intelligence and cyber officers, while members of the committee return fire: 'They hid information from us’.

The key paragraphs, it seems to me, are:

Under these circumstances, it is safe to assume the report as it is written will not be implemented. But its general ideas will keep hovering over the political arena, where the defense budget is decided on by the regular trio - the prime minister, the defense minister and the finance minister.

Netanyahu will listen to everyone's claims, agree with everyone, and then make them square it out with each other. He has the time. The 11th hour can also arrive in December, much like almost every defense budget in the past. And besides, how can Netanyahu convince Congress that the region, after the signing of the agreement with Iran, is descending into chaos, if he's cutting a third of the army's manpower?

The Grand Turk
Senior Western official: Links between Turkey and ISIS are now 'undeniable'
A US-led raid on the compound housing the Islamic State's "chief financial officer" produced evidence that Turkish officials directly dealt with ranking ISIS members, Martin Chulov of the Guardian reported recently.

The officer killed in the raid, Islamic State official Abu Sayyaf, was responsible for directing the terror army's oil and gas operations in Syria. The Islamic State (aka ISIS, ISIL, or Daesh) earns up to $10 million a month selling oil on black markets.

Documents and flash drives seized during the Sayyaf raid reportedly revealed links "so clear" and "undeniable" between Turkey and ISIS "that they could end up having profound policy implications for the relationship between us and Ankara," senior Western official familiar with the captured intelligence told the Guardian.

The possibility certainly will tempt PM Netanyahu to shut up about President Obama's Iran deal, lest he be blamed when the parole board decides not to release the gentleman. I'll believe it when it happens, though the media in Israel and the US are loudly trumpeting the announcement.

I have my own thoughts. Jonathan Pollard should die in a U.S. prison cell.
Quid Pro Quo, typical Chicago politics. Paving the way for others to follow.
Apples and oranges with regards to Mr. Snowden. I suspect the Russians will eventually play the "cooperation card" and send him back when he's no longer useful.

Pakistan Gets $336M to Support Forces in Afghanistan
[AnNahar] Pakistain on Tuesday received some $336 million from the United States for its ongoing role in combating a Taliban insurgency in neighboring Afghanistan.
Uncle Sugar strikes again.
The injection of cash, which comes as the Taliban steps up its annual summer offensive launched in late April, has helped Pakistain's foreign exchange reserves reach a fresh high of about $19 billion, state bank officials said.

Regular payments to Pakistain under the Coalition Support Fund (CSF) program began in 2001 when Pakistain joined the U.S.-led coalition in Afghanistan as a "frontline ally."

Pakistain provides use of its air bases and other facilities in exchange for the reimbursements.

The central State Bank of Pakistain (SBP) in a one-line press note said it had received a total of $336.8 million under the CSF program, which is the first tranche of a $1.5 billion for the current fiscal year ending June 2016.

Pakistain has received a total of $13 billion in CSF payments since the program began.

U.S.-led NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. It's headquartered in Belgium. That sez it all....
forces ended their combat mission in Afghanistan in December, leaving local forces to battle hard boyz alone, but a 13,000-strong residual force remains for training and counter-terrorism operations.

The Afghan government meanwhile conducted its first face-to-face talks with Taliban cadres on July 7 in a Pak hill station, aimed at ending the 14-year insurgency.

But despite the willingness to engage in talks there has been no let-up in Death Eater attacks, which are taking a heavy toll on civilians.

Almost 1,000 non-combatants were killed in the conflict during the first four months of this year, a sharp jump from the same period last year, according to the United Nations
...an organization originally established to war on dictatorships which was promptly infiltrated by dictatorships and is now held in thrall to dictatorships...

Gunmen who carried out India's Punjab attack were Muslim
Did you ever doubt it?
[DAWN] Three gunnies who fought a 12-hour battle on Monday near the Pakistain border were Moslem, the Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

police chief said on Tuesday, contradicting speculation that the attack may have been carried out by Sikh separatists.

"The inspection of the bodies shows that the assailants were Moslems," said Sumedh Singh Saini, director general of police in the northern state, speaking to news hounds at the cop shoppe that came under attack.

Ten people, including four police, three civilians and the three bully boys, were killed in a prolonged battle that began early on Monday morning, the first of its kind in Indian Punjab in more than a decade.

Take a look: Gun battle at Indian Punjab cop shoppe ends, ten killed.

The attack bore the hallmarks of similar attacks in the neighbouring region of Jammu, which has seen more frequent operations by gunnies hitting security posts in recent years.

Saini did not elaborate why police concluded the gunnies were Moslem and declined to confirm whether or not they were from Pakistain, as some Indian security sources had suggested.

He said police had not yet identified the assailants, as they were not carrying any identifying papers or documents.

"They had even gone to the lengths of removing the identifying marks on their weapons," Saini said.

Pakistan on Gurdaspur attack: Condemn terror in all its forms
[HINDUSTANTIMES] Pakistain "strongly condemned" the terror attack in Gurdaspur on Monday even as reports suggested the bandidos snuffies may have come from across the border.

"We condemn in the strongest terms the terrorist incident in Gurdaspur, India, today, in which a number of precious lives have been lost," said a relase from Pakistain's ministry of foreign affairs.

"Pakistain reiterates its condemnation of terrorism in all its forms and manifestations. We extend heartfelt sympathies and condolences to the Government and people of India and wish the maimed speedy and full recovery, " it added.

The three gunnies who attacked a cop shoppe in the border town of Gurdaspur rubbed out seven people, including four police personnel, before they were bumped off.

The Narendra Modi government warned unprovoked actions, such as cross-border terrorism, would get a befitting reply, although it was still committed to cordial ties with Pakistain "in the spirit of the Ufa meeting".

"We want peace with Pakistain, but not at the cost of national honour...We will not be the first to attack or fire, but if challenged, will give a befitting reply," home minister Rajnath Singh said.

Capt Amarinder blames Pakistan's ISI for Gurdaspur terror attack
[HINDUSTANTIMES] Blaming the Inter-Services Intelligence
...the Pak military intelligence agency that controls the military -- heads of ISI typically get promoted into the Chief of Army Staff position. It serves as a general command center for favored turban groups such as Lashkar-e-Taiba and Jaish-e-Mohammad, tries to influence the politix of neighboring countries, and carries out a (usually) low-level war against India in Kashmir...
(ISI) for Monday's terror attack, Amritsar Congress MP and former Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

chief minister Capt Amarinder Singh said on Tuesday that the post of prime minister in Pakistain had become superfluous as the army was running that country.

Interacting with the media after visiting the Dinanagar cop shoppe, which witnessed an 11-hour gunbattle between security forces and the three suspected Pak terrorists, Capt Singh said, "This is a cowardly act by Pakistain. We need to understand that Pakistain is being controlled by its army and the ISI. The post of the Pakistain prime minister is superfluous."

He went on to add: "I am here not as the MP of neighbouring Amritsar constituency or politician but as a soldier. I want to tell Pakistain army chief Raheel Sharif not to test India's patience. Don't force the Indian Army to adopt a hot-pursuit approach."

He said that the attack did not mean the revival of terrorism in Punjab, rather it was an isolated incident.

Gurdaspur attack: 'GPS sets found on terrorists suggest Pak link'
[HINDUSTANTIMES] The Global Positioning System (GPS) sets found on the three hard boyz killed after they stormed a cop shoppe in Punjab's Gursdapur district have hinted at a Pakistain link to the terror attack, security sources said on Tuesday.

An initial analysis of the GPS sets, which the hard boyz used for navigation, yielded "vital clues" about Monday's terror strike.

The examination of the sets indicated that the hard boyz infiltrated into Indian territory from Pakistain at some time during the night of July 21 or the early morning of July 22, the sources said.

"Deeper examination of the GPS sets is underway. An initial appraisal by the security forces (suggests) that the ultras were pushed into India from Pakistain in Narot-Jaimal sector on the night of July 21-22," a source told Hindustan Times.

The sources said the GPS sets contained recordings of coordinates from 10.51pm on July 21, when the hard boyz were in the Narot-Jaimal sector of the border with Pakistain.

After July 21-22, the GPS sets were switched off. The sets have details of coordinates taken on Monday morning.

The sources said this meant the hard boyz were in the Pathankot-Gurdaspur region for the past five days and had perhaps surveyed the area before launching their attack on Monday.

"The hard boyz used the route of rivulets along the border belt and reached Bamiyal town. While observing that security in the Jammu region, which is very close, was tight, the hard boyz moved towards Dinanagar town," a police official told IANS.

Israel welcomes 200 French Jewish immigrants
[AA.TR] Two-hundred French Jewish immigrants have arrived in Israel, according to a Tuesday statement issued by The Jewish Agency for Israel.

The newcomers -- half of whom are children -- were brought to the self-proclaimed Jewish state
Actually, Israel's statehood was proclaimed by the United Nations by a vote, each nation voting yea or nay in front of the entire world.
on a flight jointly organized by the agency and Israel's Immigration Ministry, the statement noted.

Immigration Minister Zeev Elkin said his ministry hoped to receive between 30,000 and 35,000 additional Jewish immigrants from around the world, the statement added.
Hezb'allah must be thrilled -- that many more Jews who won't have to be hunted down in obscure corners of the world when the long-awaited time finally comes for hunting. Of course, a great deal could happen between now and then, most of it involving dead Hizbullies...
Over the past five years, Israel has taken in more than 20,000 French Jewish immigrants, including 7,500 in 2014 and 4,260 in 2015.

Southeast Asia
Singapore, Indonesia Step up Cooperation against IS
[AnNahar] Singapore and Indonesia on Tuesday agreed to step up cooperation against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) amid fears that gunnies returning from the Middle East could mount attacks in Southeast Asia.

"We are both worried about ISIS and we both have nationals from our countries involved in these terrorist activities including in the Middle East," Singapore Prime Minister Lee Hsien Loong said after talks with visiting Indonesian President Joko Widodo.

Shortly after their meeting, Singapore disclosed that a 51-year-old local Moslem, Mustafa Sultan Ali, was deported by The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
to the city-state in June after attempting to join IS, also known as ISIS, by crossing into Syria.

Widodo said the two leaders "agreed that we will share information and other things that are linked to terrorism and ISIS, because we know that this is a threat to almost all countries."

Indonesia, which has the world's largest Moslem population and has long struggled with extremism, fears up to 500 of its citizens have been lured to the Middle East by IS.

Singapore is predominantly ethnic Chinese, with 13.3 percent of the population belonging to the Moslem Malay minority.

The Ministry of Home Affairs said the Singaporean deported by Turkey was placed under detention without trial for two years under internal-security laws.

"Investigations showed that Mustafa had been deeply radicalized by the terrorist ideology of ISIS and other radical ideologues he had come across online," a press statement said.

"He had traveled to Turkey and tried to make his way to Syria in order to participate in armed violence by fighting alongside ISIS. Mustafa also said that he was prepared to carry out ISIS-directed terrorist attacks against Western establishments in Singapore."

Singapore, one of Asia's most affluent cities and a regional base for thousands of multinational companies, is seen as a prime target for attacks by turban groups due to its close security links with the United States.

YPG/YPJ Commanders: ISIS can no longer take hold in Rojava
[BESTANEWS] YPG/YPJ and Burkan El Firat intensified their month-long initiative to liberate Sirrîn and took control of the town after 5 days of heavy festivities. Located 45 km to the south of Kobanê, Sirrîn was an important center for ISIS gangs. YPG/YPJ forces inflicted a heavy blow on the gangs and cleared the town despite the gangs' attempt to use civilians as human shields.

YPG/YPJ commanders Merxas Botan and Diljin Kobanê, who were in charge of the operation, spoke to ANF at the entrance of Sirrîn.

'THEY LEFT BEHIND LOTS OF GUNS AND MUNITIONS AS THEY ESCAPED'

YPG Commander Merxas Botan said that they intensified the operation over the past 5 days and advanced on the town as they liberated numerous villages, hamlets and strategic hills. Botan stated that the approached the town from the east and the south, and inflicted a heavy blow on the gangs as they were trying to escape from Sirrîn. Botan noted that the gangs detonated the wheat silo before they escaped, and left behind lots of guns and munitions.

'THEY TOOK CIVILIANS AS HOSTAGE'

Botan reported that ISIS gangs took civilians as hostage for days and used them as human shields by making them approach YPG/YPJ positions. Botan stated that their careful tactics prevented civilian casualties and Sirrîn was liberated successfully. Botan ended his statement by pointing out that they were a force of Syria and would continue their operations against ISIS for the liberation of entire Syria.

'GANGS CAN NO LONGER BREATHE'

YPJ Commander Kobanê emphasized the importance of Sirrîn and said that the town's liberation gave YPG/YPJ forces great morale and joy. Kobanê noted that ISIS spent a lot of effort to prevent the liberation of Sirrîn but YPG/YPJ's siege that cut all logistic routes brought success and the gangs could no longer breathe.

'ISIS IS NOW BROKEN'

Kobanê stated that they inflicted a heavy blow on the gangs and ISIS could not fight as it propagates. Kobanê pointed out that many gang members ran instead of fighting and left behind important amounts of guns and ammunitions. Kobanê said that they had expected a tougher resistance and ISIS' dissolution after Kobanê victory continued.

'SIRRÎN WAS AN IMPORTANT CENTER FOR THE GANGS

The YPJ Commander emphasized that Sirrîn was an important center for the gangs and they have taken control of important ISIS centers so far. Kobanê said that Sirrîn was important logistically, militarily and politically, and ISIS could no longer take hold against YPG/YPJ fighters from now on.

'REVENGE OF SURUC'

YPJ Commander Kobanê recalled that the initiative was for avenging Kobanê massacre, and was also motivated by the socialist youth killed in Suruc. Kobanê said that the liberation of Sirrîn was also for the Dire Revenge of Suruc massacre.

'OUR PEOPLE CAN BE AT EASE, WE WILL BRING PERPETRATORS TO ACCOUNT'

Kobanê highlighted the important role of YPJ in Sirrîn initiative and reminded that YPJ has been playing a similar role in all previous operations. Kobanê stated that avenging the women slain in Kobanê and Suruc greatly motivated them, and YPJ fighters were at the frontline as they have always been. Kobanê ended her statement by saying that people could be at ease since YPJ and YPG would be bringing perpetrators of massacres to account for their crimes.
Now all they need worry about is Turkish missiles and Turkish artillery.

Turkey seeks support in tackling threats
[Aljazeera] NATO ambassadors hold rare emergency meeting to review threat ISIL poses to Turkey amid country's tensions with Kurds.

[AlJazeera] The recent spate of attacks on Turkish soil heightens concern for its stability. NATO ambassadors have held a rare emergency meeting to review the threat ISIL poses to Turkey.

It called the meeting to talk about the growing instability on its southern border. Up until now, Turkey has been reluctant to get involved in the US-led coalition fight against ISIL. However, things have changed. Now Turkey is launching attacks inside Syria against ISIL and in northern Iraq against the Kurdish armed group, PKK.

It has also discussed a plan with the US to create a so-called buffer zone along its border with Syria.
Turkey has been trying to get NATO/the US/somebody to enforce that X kilometer buffer zone on the Syrian side of the border since President Erdogan broke up with his BFF Assad, Jr. I fail to understand why the vaunted Turkish army, however bereft of competent senior officers now languishing in the famed Turkish prisons, has not simply handled it themselves. Surely Turks can face down the Arab rabble that is ISIS, however well armed they might be.
But will it succeed in containing these threats? Or will it get further drawn into the conflict?
Related: Has Turkey bitten off more than it can chew.
One can only hope they have.
