Tunisia Names Three Suspects Wanted over Bus Bombing
[ALMANAR.LB] Tunisia has identified three suspects wanted over Tuesday's suicide kaboom that killed 12 presidential guards and is offering a financial reward for information leading to their arrest.

The interior ministry issued a statement on Friday evening identifying the desperados as Hassan Ben Khalifa Bouchiba, Houcine Ben Khalifa Bouchiba and Walid Ben Mohammed Ali Yousfi.

A preliminary probe has proven that these "terrorist elements... (are) linked to the kaboom on a bus of the presidential guard," the statement said.

The ministry also promised "an important financial reward" for "anyone providing information leading to the arrest" of the three suspects.

Tuesday's suicide kaboom in the centre of Tunis was claimed by the ISIL group and authorities have identified the bomber as a 26-year-old Tunisian travelling salesman Houssam Abdelli.

The interior ministry has said that dozens of suspects have been locked away
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
since the attack.

ISIL also grabbed credit for two attacks earlier this year at the National Bardo Museum in Tunis and on a hotel near the Mediterranean resort of Sousse that killed a total of 60 people, all but one of them foreign tourists.

The secretary of state for national security, Rafik Chelly, told private Mosaique FM radio that all these attacks were planned in neighboring Libya.

18 given death penalty for murders in Three districts
[Dhaka Tribune] A total of 18 people were condemned to death yesterday in three murder cases in three districts.

Eleven of the 18 were given the death penalty for killing Jubo League
... the youth wing of the Bangla Awami League...
leader Jalal Uddin Sarker in Gazipur in 2003.

Judge Fazle Elahi Bhuiyan of Gazipur Additional District and Sessions Judge Court 1 pronounced the verdict. The court also fined the convicts Tk10,000 each.

Milon Sarker, elder brother of the victim, said the convicts hacked Jalal to death in broad daylight when he was talking to his friends at a field near Bolkhela Bazar in Kapasia upazila on August 17, 2003.

In Narayanganj, four men were sentenced to death after a court found them guilty of killing a 13-year-old boy in 2014.

The convicts -- Saifur Rahman alias Saiful, 23, Tofazzal Hossain, 22, Jamal Hossain, 22, and Shahjahan alias Jibon, 21 -- were also sentenced to seven years in prison and fined Tk50,000 each on abduction charges in the case.

Narayanganj Additional District and Sessions Judge Miazi Mohammad Shahidul Islam handed down the verdict.

Narayanganj court's Additional Public Prosecutor MA Rahim said the four men were sentenced as their involvement in the killing of Rakibul Hasan Imon, son of Nuru Miah of Kamtal Malibhita area in Narayanganj, was proved.

Imon, a ninth-grader at a school in Sonargaon, was kidnapped on January 29 last year over previous enmity.

APP Rahim said the kidnappers demanded a ransom of Tk10 lakh but the boy was killed on the day of his abduction as the money was not paid.

After the murder, Imon's body was dumped at a poultry farm in Madanpur Malibagh area.

Imon's mother Ferdousi Begum later lodged a case accusing five people of killing her son.

The accused were detained and police recovered Imon's body a week later based on information obtained during interrogation.

Al Amin, the fifth accused in the case, was sentenced to rigorous imprisonment for 10 years on May 14 this year.

Also, three persons were given the death sentence by Sylhet's Women and Children Repression Prevention Tribunal for abducting and killing nine-year-old boy Abu Sayeed in March this year.

The convicts are Nurul Islam Rakib, 26, general secretary of Olama League's Sylhet district unit, Ebadur Rahman alias Putul, 24, former constable of Sylhet Airport cop shoppe, and Ataur Rahman alias Geda, 33, a police informer.

Judge Abdur Rashid also fined the three Tk2 lakh (Tk1 lakh for abduction and Tk1 lakh for murder) each, and acquitted Mahib Hossain Masum as charges against him could not be proved.

All three convicts confessed to the murder, saying that they kidnapped the boy for ransom.

Special Public Prosecutor of the tribunal Abdul Malek said the convicts would have to serve two more years (one year for abduction and one year for murder) in jail upon failure to pay the fine.

Sayeed's father Abdul Matin said he was content with the verdict. He also demanded that the verdict be executed soon.

Sayeed, a fourth-grader, was kidnapped from Sylhet's Rainagar area on March 11 this year and police recovered his body two days later from the attic of Ebadur's house.

The boy was killed as he could recognise the abductors.

China Jails 14 over 2013 Pipeline Blast
[ALMANAR.LB] China sentenced 14 people, including local officials and employees at a state company, to prison Monday for their role in a 2013 pipeline blast that killed 63 and injured another 156, state media reported.

The pipeline, owned by a subsidiary of China's largest oil refiner Sinopec, went kaboom! as a result of drilling by maintenance staff.

A court in the eastern city of Qingdao, where the accident occurred, meted out sentences of three to five years to the defendants, the Xinhua state news service reported.

An official inquiry into the blast in 2014 identified negligence as the primary cause of the kaboom, taking Sinopec and the city's government to task for "not identifying and correcting potential safety hazards".

The pipeline itself, according to the probe, was improperly designed and the emergency response was poorly handled.

The disaster's consequences seem to have mostly fallen on low-level babus bureaucrats.

Six municipal officials received jail time, as well as eight people from the Sinopec subsidiary, Xinhua said.

Four APS terrorists to be sent to gallows
PESHAWAR: Chief of Army Staff Gen Raheel Sharif on Monday signed the black warrants of four terrorists involved in the Army Public School attack, Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR) said.

The army chief signed the black warrants of Maulvi Abdus Salam, Hazrat Ali, Mujeebur Rehman and Sabeel alias Yahya nearly a year after the horrific massacre. All the four convicts were active members of Toheed wal Jihad Group (TWJ)

Militants stormed the school on Dec 16, 2014, killing at least 144 people ? most of whom were children. In the wake of the APS carnage, military courts were set up for trying terrorists under amendments made to the constitution and the Army Act. This was the first sentence approved by the army chief following the Supreme Court’s August 2015 judgement giving legal cover to the establishment of military courts.

Political parties had unanimously agreed over the issue of setting up military courts to tackle terrorism cases in the country following the gruesome attack on the Army Public School in Peshawar in December 2014, following which parliament passed the 21st constitutional amendment in Jan 2015 to set up the said courts.

President Mamnoon Hussain had promulgated an ordinance further revising the recently amended Army Act to ostensibly aid the functioning of military courts by allowing for trials in camera, ie without the presence of the public or the media, and over video link if necessary. The Supreme Court in a majority ruling upheld the establishment of military courts in Pakistan.

Petitions challenging the 21st amendment were dismissed in August this year in a majority 11-6 vote of the 17-member SC bench. In a 14-3 majority vote, petitions challenging the 18th amendment were also dismissed by the bench.

Swabi polio district coordinator shot dead
PESHAWAR: Expanded Programme on Immunization (EPI) District Coordinator Dr. Yaqoob was shot dead and his driver injured when unidentified assailants opened fired on his car in Khyber Pakhtunkhwa's Swabi district on Monday morning.

District Police Officer (DPO) Swabi Javed Iqbal Wazir said that Dr. Yaqoob was on the his way to office when unknown motorcyclists shot at his car near Swabi's Zaida Bypass area.

Polio workers have long been targeted due to rumours that the polio immunisation drive is a front for espionage or a conspiracy to sterilise Muslims. The rumours have made inhabitants of lesser-developed parts of the country more wary of allowing immunisation.

These claims were propagated by the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan, who stepped up attacks targeting polio immunisation teams after Pakistani doctor Shakeel Afridi was recruited by the Central Intelligence Agency to set up a hepatitis immunisation drive as part of efforts to track down Al Qaeda chief Osama Bin Laden.

Pakistan remains one of only two countries on the World Health Organisation's (WHO) list of polio-endemic countries.

Although the number of polio cases in Pakistan during 2015 is reported to be 40 ─ down from 224 during the previous year according to the polio control cell ─ the country has been struggling to combat the number of refusals it receives, the spread of polio via air and land routes as well as what appears to be the declining quality of the immunisation campaign.

Police uncover West Bank firearm trafficking ring
[IsraelTimes] Suspected ringleader identified as Israeli Arab man, 45, from East Jerusalem, arrested while carrying handguns, Kalashnikov

Police tossed in the calaboose
Maw! They're comin' to get me, Maw!
an Israeli Arab on charges of illegally smuggling "large quantities" of firearms, it was revealed Sunday morning.

The man, identified as a 45-year-old resident of the Shuafat refugee camp in East Jerusalem, was under investigation for several months, police said.

The central investigative unit of the Judea and Samaria Police -- the police division in the West Bank -- employed undercover officers to collect evidence of the trafficking, which a police statement said involved "various types of weapons, and in large quantities."

He was arrested on November 19 in a joint operation in Shuafat between Border Police forces and a police SWAT team.

At the time of his arrest, police found him carrying a bag with three handguns, a Kalashnikov assault rifle, ammunition and replacement parts for various other firearms.

The suspect confessed to criminal masterminding the weapons trafficking ring, police said. His remand was extended until December 1.

Eight additional suspects were arrested for their part in the ring, and more arrests are expected.

Police did not indicate whether the firearms were being sold to criminal groups or terror organizations.

US backed Syrian rebels take area near Shaddadi
ARA News

HASAKAH – The Kurdish-Arab alliance of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) reported new gains in the southern suburbs of Hasakah, northeast Syria, at the expense of the extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS), heading towards Shaddadi, the second key bastion of ISIS after Raqqa in northeastern Syria, military sources reported on Monday.

Shaddadi, located at a distance of 46km south of Hasakah city, and its environs have been under ISIS control for more than a year and a half.

Speaking to ARA News in Hasakah, Kurdish member of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) Jivan Hasan said their units were able to recapture areas in the vicinity of Rusafa and Qana villages, after seizing the Hasakah southern dam (25 km south Hasakah).

The source pointed out that the joint forces approached the village of al-Daham (6 km south Hasakah) that is located near the ISIS-held district al-Arisha.

“The advance of the SDF forces towards the ISIS’s major stronghold of Shaddadi slowed down due to the land-mines planted by the terror group in the area,” the Kurdish fighter told ARA News.

Last week, the Kurdish YPG forces have fully retaken the military base of al-Melabiya in Hasakah province subsequent to days of clashes with ISIS militants.

Before its withdrawal from al-Melabiya, ISIS has reportedly transferred a large deal of its weapons from the base to the eastern countryside of Deir ez-Zor, an informed source told ARA News on the condition of anonymity.

Fighting continues between the U.S.-backed Kurdish-Arab alliance and ISIS extremists on several fronts in the countryside of Hasakah to the south, east and west. The SDF launched an extended anti-ISIS campaign in Hasakah nearly one months ago, and it has been so far able to recapture more than 210 villages and towns in the province.

The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) include Kurdish forces of the YPG and YPJ, the Syriac Military Council, the Arab tribal group of al-Sanadeed, al-Jazeera brigades, Jaish al-Thuwar group, and of Burkan al-Furat battalion.

ISIS troops hammer Syrian troops near Aleppo
ARA News

ALEPPO – Militant fighters of the Islamic State (ISIS) waged Monday an offensive on locations for the Syrian army forces and allied troops in the vicinity of a key air base east of Aleppo in northern Syria, causing heavy losses in the latter’s ranks, local activists reported.

Speaking to ARA News in Aleppo, media activist Abdul Rahman Tahi confirmed that ISIS fighters targeted positions of pro-Assad forces south of the Kweires air base with a car bomb, causing casualties in the army’s ranks.

“The explosion was followed by fierce clashes between the two sides, during which four locations fell to ISIS near the Kweires air base,” he added.

“ISIS militants carried out another car bomb attack at a security center adjacent to the town of Kaskis in the vicinity of Kweires.”

“Subsequent to fierce clashes between the two parties, ISIS captured the town of Kaskis,” Tahi told ARA News. “There were casualties on both sides.”

Military sources in Aleppo reported the death and injury of dozens of pro-regime forces in the ISIS-led attacks near Kweires.

In the meantime, the Syrian army bombed the road linking the towns of Deir Hafer and Kaskis in a bid to impede ISIS progress in the area.

“However, fierce clashes continue in Aleppo’s east as ISIS extremists take advantage of the bad weather conditions that prevent warplanes from targeting their positions near the air base,” the source added.

On Saturday, Syrian army officials said that pro-regime forces, supported by a Russian air cover, regained the town of Kaskis and the Agoula village (60 km east of Aleppo) along with large swaths of agricultural land, beside several tunnels from ISIS.

The areas recaptured by the army forces are located east of the Kweires air base, which was seized by ISIS on Nov. 10.

Last month, the regime’s army forces were able to break the a one-year siege imposed on its troops inside the Kweires air base by the terror group after launching a major military operation in the eastern suburbs of Aleppo. The hardline group has been striving to retake the air base for its strategic location.

[ALMANAR.LB] Russian Su-34 bombers, additionally equipped with air-to-air missiles, have set out on their first mission in Syria, said Igor Klimov, front man for the Russian Air Force.

"Today, Russian Su-34 fighter-bombers have made their first sortie equipped not only with high explosive aviation bombs and hollow charge bombs, but also with short- and medium-range air-to-air missiles," Klimov said.

"The planes are equipped with missiles for defensive purposes," he added.

The missiles have target-seeking devices and are "capable of hitting air targets within a 60km radius," he said.

Turkish F-16s shot down a Russian Su-24 bomber operating in Syria on November 24, with Ankara claiming that the warplane had violated Turkish airspace. Moscow has rejected the claims, saying that according to its military intelligence the Su-24 never left Syrian airspace.

Putin claims Turkey shot down Russian jet to protect oil trade with Isil
[Telegraph] Vladimir Putin on Monday accused Turkey of secretly purchasing oil from the Islamic State of Iraq and the Levant (Isil), and claimed that the decision to shoot down a Russian warplane last week was motivated by the desire to protect the flow of oil from the terrorist group.

Recep Tayyip Erdogan, the Turkish president, denied the allegations and said he would resign if it could be proved that Turkey had bought oil from Isil.

Turkey and Russia have been engaged in a bitter war of words since Turkey shot down a Russian jet near the Syrian border on November 24.

Mr Putin and Mr Erdogan traded accusations as they took their respective turns at the podium at the summit on climate change in Paris.

BEST OF BOTH WORLDS:Al Qaeda suicide bomber takes out leadership of key ISIS brigade
A recent suicide kaboom in southern Syria shows the rivalry between Al Qaeda and ISIS is more than just a contest to see who can kill the most infidels -- the groups are using classic terror techniques on each other.

The Nov. 15 bombing came at a top-level meeting of the Yarmouk Martyrs
...a rebel group in southern Syria. They gained attention when they abducted 21 Filipino UN soldiers in early March 2013, releasing them on 10 March 2013. The group has been accused by other Syrian rebel groups of being affiliated with the Islamic State, which it denies. Their leader is Abo Ali al-Baridi, who denies they're takfiris. They just want to apply God’s rule and Sharia. They have been attacked by al-Nusra and other groups allied with it, probably because they're so pious...
Brigade, a key ISIS militia known for its bloody and vicious hold over parts of the Golan Heights. Six of the group's top men were killed, including Muhammad "Abu Ali" al-Baridi, the shadowy head of the group who went by the nickname "The Uncle."

Al-Nusra Front, Al Qaeda's Syrian affiliate, quickly took credit, gloating on Twitter about the "heroic" attack.

"The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
[ISIS], that controls the closest area to the Israel border in the Syrian Golan Heights, suffered a severe blow and lost its entire top command in the area in one fell swoop," noted Alex Fishman, a veteran military correspondent for Israeli daily Yediot Aharonot.

Champ's anti-Islamic State coalition crumbles as Arab allies abandon effort
[Wash Times] The major Arab powers once deemed essential to the fight against the Islamic State in Syria and Iraq have largely pulled back from the U.S.-led military campaign, undercutting the Obama administration's claims about the depth and reach of the coalition it has built with allies in the region.

The Obama administration consistently touts the "65-nation coalition" it has assembled to fight the group also known as ISIS, ISIL and Daesh -- but critics say that fewer than a dozen nations today are contributing anything significant to the campaign.

And behind closed doors, administration and military officials admit that air support from such key Arab allies as Jordan, Saudi Arabia, Bahrain and the United Arab Emirates (UAE) -- something the White House once touted as an unprecedented and essential part of the coalition -- has all but evaporated.

#2  It is hard for Arab states to fight SISI when most of their citizens are highly sympathetic with SISI and somewhat hostile to their own leadership. The Arab allies were probably hoping the Western powers would destroy SISI for them so they could blame the west for all their ills and continue business as usual.
