Taliban militants flee from Kohistanat with arrival of Gen. Dostum
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] The Talibs have abandoned the restive Kohistan
...a backwoods district of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa distinguished by being even more rustic than is the norm among the local Pashtuns....
at district by fleeing the area after the First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
arrived in Sar-e-Pul province.
"He ain't runnin' over me with no tank! I'm outta here!"
According to the local government officials, the Afghan national security forces managed to retake the control of the district after the Talibs fled the area.

Gen. Dostum arrived in Sar-e-Pul province late on Thursday afternoon after concluding a major military operation in northern Faryab province.

Gen. Dostum called on anti-government armed Death Eaters in the restive northern Sar-e-Pul province to surrender or face death upon his arrival in this province.

Gen. Dostum promised that Balkhab district which is now controlled by Talibs will soon fall to the control of the Afghan national security forces.

He said he will move towards northern Kunduz province once Sar-e-Pul province has been cleared from the hard boys, provided that the president and the national security council agrees to proceed.

Gen. Dostum joined the Afghan cops in the frontline in northern Faryab province earlier this month.

He survived at least two liquidation plots by the anti-government armed hard boy groups while he was leading counter-terrorism operations in Faryab.

The convoy of the First Vice President Gen. Abdul Rashid Dostum was ambushed by the Taliban in Death Eaters in Qaisar district of northern Faryab province last week.

Another plot to assassinate Gen. Dostum was thwarted by the security forces and special security guards of the Vice President three days after the failed attack.

At least three jacket wallahs were tossed in the clink

earlier on Monday tonight from the vicinity of Gen. Dostum's residence in Qaisar district.

The US Forces officials in Afghanistan have said the Arclight airstrikes conducted on Thursday targeted the "individuals threatening coalition and Afghan forces."

In the meantime, the local government officials said the Arclight airstrikes by US military were conducted to stop the Talibs from advancing towards the district.

The officials further added that nearly 150 Talibs were killed or maimed during the festivities on Friday.

Helmand is among the volatile provinces in southern Afghanistan where the Talibs are actively operating in its various districts.

The Talibs were looking to advance towards Lashkargah the capital city of Helmand province after capturing certain areas in Musa Qala district during heavy festivities started earlier this week.

Taliban Kill 22 ALP Members in Faryab
[Tolo News] At least 22 Afghan Local Police (ALP) force members and three non-combatants were killed in a Taliban ambush in northwestern Faryab province, said local authorities.

The incident took place Thursday when nearly 40 ALP personnel were moving towards the Shirin Tagab district to assist fellow members battling the holy warriors.

Taliban killed 22 of the forces in an ambush before taking them hostage, said Mohammad Tahir Rahmani, a member of Faryab provincial council.

He accused the local security authorities of negligence in the incident.

"The government is very week. It does not support the forces that defend the country day and night," Rahmani said.

However,
it's easy to be generous with someone else's money...
the provincial police chief said the forces had gone to Shirin Tagab without any coordination with the police.

Meanwhile,
...back at the dirigible, the pilot and the copilot had both hit the silk.

Jack! Cynthia exclaimed. Do you know how to drive one of these things?

Jack wiped some of the blood from his knuckles.

No, he said. Do you?...

Rozi Mohammad, an ALP member who managed to escape the ambush, told TOLOnews that all the forces were from Khowaja Sabzposh district.

"Taliban shot up the forces after taking them hostage," Mohammad said. "Most of the forces were my own relatives and family members."

This has been the first holy warrior attack after the First Vice President Abdul Rashid Dostum
...ethnic Uzbek warlord who distinguished himself fighting the Soviets and the Taliban. The story that he had a bad guy run over with a tank is an exaggeration. It was an armored personnel carrier...
spent nearly four weeks in Faryab and declared to have cleared the province from armed rebels.

12 backers of Daesh get death in Egypt
[ARABNEWS] An Egyptian court sentenced to death 12 members of Daesh for planning attacks against police and soldiers in the country, a judicial official said.

Six of those who were on trial are behind bars, while the rest are still on the lam, the official said.

They were convicted of having joined Daesh and of plotting to attack members of Egypt's police force and military. In Egypt, death sentences are forwarded to the country's grand mufti, the official interpreter of Shariah, who then issues a non-binding opinion.

The sentences issued will either be confirmed or commuted on Sept. 12 by the court in the northern province of Sharkia, a court official said.

In a separate trial, two cousins were sentenced to three years in prison in the same province for using Facebook to promote the ideology of Daesh, the official added.

Libyans collect 105 bodies after migrant boat sinks
[ARABNEWS] Libya recovered 105 bodies after a boat packed with migrants sank in the Mediterranean Sea and said almost 100 more people were missing and feared dead.

The vessel sank on Thursday after leaving Zuwara, a major launchpad for smugglers shipping migrants to Italia by exploiting a security vacuum in Libya where rival governments are fighting for control four years after the ousting of Muammar Qadaffy
...The late megalomaniac dictator of Libya, admired everywhere for his garish costumes, funny hats, harem of cutie bodyguards, and incoherent ravings. As far as is known, he is the only person who's ever declared jihad on Switzerland...
Lacking navy ships, Libyan officials were searching for survivors with fishing boats and inflatables provided by locals. About 198 people had been rescued by noon, officials said.

"The boat was in a bad condition and people died with us," said Ayman Talaal, a Syrian survivor, standing next to his daughter. "We have been forced into this route. It's now called the grave of the Mediterranean Sea."

Local officials and residents were putting bodies into red bags on a beach littered with shoes, trousers and other personal items from drowned migrants. A blue inflatable brought in more bodies.

"We, the Red Islamic Thingy, work with nothing. Some fishermen help us with a boat," said Ibrahim Al-Attoushi, an official at the Red Islamic Thingy in Zuwara. "We only have one ambulance car."

to death Friday for a double suicide kaboom that killed 38 people in the country's capital N'Djamena in June.

"The 10 Boko Haram defendants have been condemned to death," according to the ruling in the country's first trial of presumed members of the Nigeria-based Islamist group.

The accused include Nigerian national Mahamat Mustapha, also known as Bana Fanaye, who according to Chadian authorities criminal masterminded the June 15 suicide kabooms that struck a school and a police building in N'Djamena, killing 38 people and injuring over 100.

Shortly after Fanaye's arrest in late June, Chad's top prosecutor Alghassim Kassim said the suspect was the "ringleader of a network smuggling weapons and munitions between Nigeria, Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...

Bangladesh arrests two more suspects in blogger's killing
[DAWN] Police in Bangladesh have placed in durance vile
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
two more suspected members of a banned bad boy group thought to be behind the slaying of a secular blogger in the fourth such deadly attack this year.

Dhaka Metropolitan police official Mahbub Alam said Kausar Hossain Khan, 29, and Kamal Hossain Sardar, 29, were arrested in raids in the capital city late Thursday and that they were suspected members of the Ansarullah Bangla Team blamed for attacks on atheist bloggers and writers.

The arrests follow the arrests two weeks ago of two other suspects, Saad-al-Nahin and Masud Rana for involvement in the killing of the 28-year-old blogger Niladri Chottopadhay Niloy.

Alam said the latest arrests were a result of interrogations of the two.

Niloy was hacked to death on Aug. 7. His wife, Asha Moni, filed a murder case against four unnamed persons, and the seriousness of the case meant the investigation was handed to the Detective Branch of the police from the regular police.

Police would not provide more details about Khan and Sardar but said they were out on bail after being accused of attempted murder in an attack on another blogger, Asif Mohiuddin, two years ago.

Mohiuddin has since fled for Germany.

Niloy was known to his friends as an atheist blogger whose online name is Niloy Chowdhury. His family and friends said he has criticised radical Islamists at home and abroad, and had sought police protection after receiving threats. The police asked him to leave the country for his safety, they said.

The United States has expressed its concern over the killing, while the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
called for Bangladeshi authorities to ensure accountability and prevent such violence.

UN Special Rapporteur Heiner Bielefeldt is scheduled to visit Bangladesh from Monday to assess the state of freedom of religion and belief in the South Asian country.

In February, Bangladeshi-American blogger Avijit Roy was hacked to death on the Dhaka University campus while walking with his wife.

Europe
Four held over grisly deaths of 71 migrants
Good. Wring 'em dry, try 'em fair, then hang 'em high.
And don't dally...
[ARABNEWS] Hungary said Friday it has nabbed
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
four people over the discovery of 71 decomposing bodies in an abandoned truck in Austria, another grim tragedy involving migrants desperately seeking refuge in Europe.

In the horrific incident -- a rare occurrence on land in a prosperous country when so many migrants have died at sea -- Austrian police said the dead were likely Syrians and included a toddler and three young boys.

"Among these 71 people, there were 59 men, eight women and four children including a young girl one or two years old and three boys aged eight, nine or 10," police front man Hans Peter Doskozil told a news conference.

He said the time and cause of death still had to be determined but there was a "certain probability" they had suffocated in the truck, found Thursday on a motorway near the Hungarian border.

Two jailed in separate trials for conspiring to support ISIS and Al Qaeda, another arrested for supporting ISIS
[AnNahar] A tech-savvy U.S. teenager from Virginia was sentenced to 11 years and four months in prison on Friday for conspiring to provide material support to the Islamic State

bad boy group.

Ali Shukri Amin, 17, from the small town of Manassas an hour's drive from Washington DC, will be subject to a lifetime of supervised release and monitoring of his Internet activities.

He is thought to be the first minor convicted in the United States of providing material aid to the bad boy group, which has declared a caliphate in Iraq and Syria.

The prolific Twitter user, who sent more than 7,000 messages on the site in support of IS, pleaded guilty in June.

Under the Twitter handle @Amreekiwitness, he provided IS supporters with instructions on using the virtual currency Bitcoin to conceal financial donations to the radical Islamist group and the best way to encrypt their online exchanges.

He also offered guidance to sympathizers seeking to travel to Syria to fight with IS, including another Virginia teen, Reza Niknejad, who traveled to Syria to join IS in January.

Niknejad, 18, was charged in June with conspiring to provide material support to terrorists, conspiring to provide material support to IS and conspiring to kill and injure people abroad.

U.S. prosecutors welcomed the sentence.

Assistant attorney general John Carlin said "more and more" IS propaganda is seeping into American communities "reaching those who are most vulnerable.

"The Department of Justice will continue to use all tools to disrupt the threats that ISIL poses," he said, using an alternative acronym for the group.

Those who use social media to support IS would be "prosecuted with no less vigilance" than those who take up arms for the group, said U.S. attorney Dana Boente.

Amin's lawyer, Joseph Flood, had described his client as a stellar student from a good family who was outraged by rights abuses under Syria's Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
The Scourge of Hama...
When Amin pleaded guilty, Flood said he was the first minor convicted in the United States of providing material aid to IS.

In Florida, a 27-year-old Kenyan was sentenced to 15 years for conspiring to support Al-Qaeda, and its affiliates in Syria and Somalia, Al-Nusra Front and the Shabaab, prosecutors said Friday.

Mohammed Hussain Said, who pleaded guilty in May, received wire transfers from a co-conspirator destined for Shabaab and recruited experienced Shabaab fighters to fight in Syria.

US prosecutors said he also tried to recruit others for attacks inside the United States.

On Thursday, another man was locked away

in Arizona and charged with providing material support to IS for allegedly helping a New York college student travel to Syria to train for jihad.

According to the police officer, initial investigation showed that a wife and two sons (between five and seven years of age) of the suspect were killed when he detonated his suicide jacket. Another minor child survived the blast.

The suspect was severely injured and was taken to the Toba DHQ hospital and later shifted to the Faisalabad

Allied Hospital where he died.

Muazzam Ramzan, one of the seriously injured constables, also was taken to the same hospital.

Inspector Shahbaz Ahmad Virk told Dawn that Rehman, who hailed from Multan, had rented the house about three months ago. He said members of a terror gang busted recently in Faisalabad had informed law-enforcement agencies about the presence of Rehman in Pir Mahal.

SHC advocate shot dead in Karachi
[DAWN] An advocate of Sindh High Court was rubbed out in Gulshan-e-Iqbal area of Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
on Friday evening, according to police.

Giving details, the police said Syed Ameer Hyder Shah was travelling in his car when three suspects riding a cycle of violence opened indiscriminate fire at him near Hassan Square, and later managed to flee the scene of the crime.

Shah sustained critical bullet wounds and was transported to a nearby private hospital where doctors pronounced him dead
He's dead, Jim!
, said Gulshan SP Abid Qaimkhani.

The SP hinted that the murder of Shah could be linked to his professional work as the victim tended to plead cases before anti-terrorism courts.

We also cannot ignore the aspect of sectarian killing as the victim was a member of Shia community, added the officer.

Meanwhile,
...back at the wreckage, Captain Poindexter wished he had a cup of coffee. Even instant would do...
Karachi police chief Mushtaq Ahmed Mahar had conceded last week that unlike assassinations and acts of terrorism, the incidence of street crime in the metropolis had not come down.

He said that for a city of over 18 million people there were only 30,000 coppers who were already battling organised criminal gangs, armed wings of political parties and murderous Moslems of banned outfits.

10 killed as India, Pakistan trade border fire
[ARABNEWS] At least 10 non-combatants were killed and more than 50 maimed Friday as India and Pakistain shot it out across their disputed border, officials said.

Six died near the city of Sialkot in Pakistain's Punjab
1.) Little Orphan Annie's bodyguard
2.) A province of Pakistain ruled by one of the Sharif brothers
3.) A province of India. It is majority (60 percent) Sikh and Hindoo (37 percent), which means it has relatively few Moslem riots....

province, the country's military said, while at least four villagers were killed in Indian-administered Kashmire, one more than the figure of three reported earlier.

The firing comes less than a week after planned high-level talks between the nuclear-armed rivals were aborted amid a row over Kashmire, the Himalayan territory both sides control in part but claim in full.

The two sides regularly fire shells and mortars across the disputed border both in Kashmire and to the south in Punjab, killing civilians.

A senior Pak security official told AFP that Indian forces began firing around 3 a.m. on Friday (2200 GMT Thursday) and continued intermittently during the morning.

"Six civilians embraced shahadat (martyrdom) and 46 were severely injured including 22 females due to Indian unprovoked firing/shelling on working boundary near Sialkot in Chaprar and Harpal sector," a statement from the Pak military said, adding that they had returned fire.

In Indian-controlled Kashmire, Border Security Force (BSF) official Rakesh Kumar Sharma accused Pakistain of targeting civilians with "unprovoked" mortar fire.

"Four villagers died in the shelling from across the border, three of them were killed early morning and one died of injuries in a hospital later," Pawan Kotwal, the top administrator of the region told AFP.

Another BSF officer, J.S.Oberio, put the number of injured at 16, saying at least 10 border posts and several villages were targeted by Pak troops.

Iraq
Kurdish forces free seven villages in Iraq
[Afri Times] Western-backed Kurdish fighters freed seven villages from the clasps of the Islamic State group in northern Iraq in recent days, the US-led coalition battling the jihadists.

But the extremists still control broad swathes of land in the war-torn country, where the IS group has waged a terrifying offensive of forced religious conversions and beheadings.

Bolstered by coalition airstrikes, the Peshmerga fighters wrestled back more than 200 square kilometers (80 square miles) near the town of Tuz since August 26, the Combined Joint Task Force said.

Planes and drones conducted a total of 25 strikes, helping the Kurdish forces in "liberating seven villages," a statement said.

Elsewhere in Iraq, the situation remains more static, a spokesman for the US military's Central Command (Centcom) said.

In Ramadi, capital of the key battleground province of Anbar, Iraqi forces continue to try and isolate the city, which fell into IS hands in May.

"It remains a challenging fight" said Centcom spokesman Colonel Patrick Ryder.

Meanwhile in the Baiji area north of Baghdad, where fierce fighting has lasted for months, Iraqi forces "continue to hold their ground" at an oil refinery that has been scene of much fighting.

Within the city of Baiji itself IS has taken "back some ground but they paid a very heavy price for it."

Overall, Iraqi forces "are dealing with some tough challenges in certain areas," Ryder said, but the IS group is under pressure to allocate its resources and "continues to lose fighters and leaders at a high rate."

On Thursday, two suicide attacks claimed by the Islamic State group killed two Iraqi generals in Anbar.

Three Extremist Gunmen Killed in Philippines Military Clash
[ALMANAR.LB] Three gunnies were killed after the Philippine military on Friday launched a second attempt in two weeks to rescue hostages held by the Abu Sayyaf
...also known as al-Harakat al-Islamiyya, an Islamist terror group based in Jolo, Basilan and Zamboanga. Since its inception in the early 1990s, the group has carried out bombings, kidnappings, murders, head choppings, and extortion in their uniquely Islamic attempt to set up an independent Moslem province in the Philippines. Abu Sayyaf forces probably number less than 300 cadres. The group is closely allied with remnants of Indonesia's Jemaah Islamiya and has loose ties with MILF and MNLF who sometimes provide cannon fodder...
terrorist group, the army said.

About 300 Abu Sayyaf gunnies retreated after the hour-long firefight in the jungles of the remote southern island of Jolo, said Brigadier-General Alan Arrojado, the military commander in the area.

However the military did not say if any of the hostages were freed or injured in the festivities, or how many hostage were believed to have been held at the murderous Moslems' camp.

Ten Philippine soldiers were maimed in the fighting, Arrojado added.

Last week two Philippine coasties men, who were among 11 hostages held by Abu Sayyaf, escaped during fierce festivities which erupted after elite military forces launched a risky rescue operation, leaving 15 Abu Sayyaf men dead on Jolo.

The military rescue attempt came after the decapitated remains of a 12th hostage, Rodolfo Boligao, were found on a deserted Jolo highway.

Impoverished Jolo is a known stronghold of the Abu Sayyaf, a loose band of several hundred gunnies set up in the 1990s with seed money from the Al-Qaeda terrorist network of the late Osama bin Laden
... who doesn't live anywhere anymore...
The group engages in kidnappings to finance operations, often targeting foreigners and sometimes beheading captives if ransoms are not paid.
Of course they do. Jihadis are bandits with religious credentials.
It has also been blamed for the worst kabooms in the country, including the Molotov cocktailing of a ferry off Manila Bay in 2004 that killed more than 100 people.

Rebels recapture ground from ISIS near Turkish border

in northern province of Aleppo near an area where The Sick Man of Europe Turkey

and the United States are planning to open a new front against the group, rebel sources said.

On Thursday the hardline Sunni group was able to seize five villages near Marea town, some 20 km (12 miles), south of the Turkish border, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said. But at Friday's dawn rebels have taken control of Sandaf and harajlah villages after fierce festivities, dozens of ISIS fighters were killed, Abu al-Abed, field commander in al-Shamiya Front, told Zaman al-Wasl.

Abu al-Abed also said that ISIS had targeted Dahla village with toxic gas on Thursday, many of suffocation cases reported.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu told Rooters on Monday that the two NATO

allies would soon launch "comprehensive" air operations to flush Islamic State fighters from the border region.

The villages captured by Islamic State include two that the al Qaeda-linked Nusra Front recently handed over to another Syrian rebel group.

Islamic State has escalated attacks against Syrian rebels in the northern Aleppo countryside since Turkey announced plans to drive the group from the area.

The Nusra Front, which is hostile to Islamic State, announced earlier this month that it would withdraw from the area where Turkey plans to establish a buffer zone.

Pentagon confirms militant killed in U.S. air strike in Syria was recruiter

of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) sympathizers to carry out lone wolf attacks in the west, the Pentagon said Friday.

Colonel Patrick Ryder, a front man for the U.S. Central Command, said Junaid Hussain was specifically targeted in an air strike that killed him August 24 in Raqqa, Syria.

He declined to confirm reports that a drone was used to kill Hussain, but he said the British-born bad boy and propagandist was the sole casualty of the air strike.

"He was involved in actively recruiting ISIL sympathizers in the West to carry out lone wolf style attacks," Ryder said, using an alternative acronym for the ISIS group.

Hussain was believed to be behind a number of cyberattacks, including on Central Command websites and Twitter accounts.

Extremist forces advance to capture Syria air base
[ARABNEWS] Syria's Al-Qaeda offshoot and other rebel groups advanced Friday toward a military airport that is the last remaining government-held facility in the northwestern province of Idlib, a monitor said.

Al-Qaeda-affiliated Al-Nusra Front and other radical groups "seized the entrance" to the Abu Duhur airport after carrying out several suicide kabooms on cycle of violences and "seizing several positions on its outskirts," the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

State television said the army had "killed a large number of Al-Nusra bandidos Death Eaters and destroyed their arms and equipment" at the facility.

The Britannia-based Observatory said air strikes were launched in response to the onslaught, and that 16 soldiers and 18 rebels were killed in the fighting.

The so-called "Army of Conquest," a collection of bad boy forces, captured the Idlib quiet provincial capital in March and has since driven Syria's military from most of the province.

In Damascus, meanwhile, state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
said two people had been killed and seven maimed in rebel rocket fire on the capital.

The Observatory also reported the rocket fire on several parts of the city.

Rebel forces on the outskirts of Damascus, particularly in the Eastern Ghouta region, regularly fire rockets into Damascus.

In Syria, the coalition focused attacks near Washiyah, where three air strikes hit tactical units and destroyed an Islamic State vehicle, the Combined Joint Task Forces said in the statement.
