Somali pirates seize fishing trawler off Somalia coast
Police say Somali pirates have seized a fishing trawler owned by a local businessman and forced the mostly foreign crew to disembark.

Col. Mohamed Hassan told The Associated Press on Friday that the pirates used a small skiff to board the trawler off the village of Eyl in the northern semiautonomous state of Puntland. Hassan says the pirates likely will use the trawler as a mother ship to carry out hijackings in international waters.

The incident comes shortly after Somali pirates seized an oil tanker and its Sri Lankan crew for several days — the first hijacking of a large commercial vessel in the area in five years.

Car bomb kills 1, injures 2 in Mogadishu
A police official says a car bomb blast near a restaurant and hotel in Somalia’s capital has killed at least one person and wounded two others. Capt. Mohamed Hussein says the car bomb detonated in the middle of a road near the presidential palace.

Another car bomb exploded Tuesday at a military checkpoint near the presidential palace, killing at least six people. Al-Shabab claimed responsibility.

The extremist group has denounced Somalia’s new President Mohamed Abdullahi Mohamed as an “apostate” and warned Somalis against supporting him. Al-Shabab was kicked out of Mogadishu under Mohamed’s brief term as prime minister in 2010-2011.

Africa North
Cairo Blast Kills Egyptian Man
[AnNahar] An kaboom killed an Egyptian man on Friday in Cairo, the interior ministry said.

The blast in the Maadi district, caused by a "strange metal device", killed a 35-year-old doorman as he cleaned a garden, the ministry said in a statement.

His wife and two sons were maimed in the kaboom.

Islamist gunnies have set off bombs in Cairo, usually targeting coppers, since the 2013 overthrow of president Mohammed Morsi, a Moslem Brüderbund politician.

His overthrow led to a deadly police crackdown that killed hundreds of Islamist protesters, and an insurgency centred in the Sinai Peninsula that killed hundreds of soldiers and coppers.

Maadi is a large district that houses embassies and expatriates as well as middle and working class areas.

The site of the kaboom was not close to any embassies, some of which had been threatened by jihadists over the past few years.

At Least 50 Killed by Armed Men in C. Africa
[AnNahar] At least 50 people have been killed and dozens more injured since Tuesday after gunnies attacked three villages in the central Bambari region of the Central African Republic, local residents who fled their homes told AFP.

Prosper Tchoulekrayo, who beat feet from Yasseneme village, said the attackers had "fired indiscriminately on the inhabitants".

"The provisional toll of the attacks in the Agoudou Manga, Yasseneme and Ngouyanza is at least 50 dead. Dozens more have been injured," said Isaac Arata-Naba, an Agoudou Manga resident.

Tchoulekrayo said the attacks were staged by members of the UPC, a faction of the former rebel and mainly Moslem Seleka
...a 'mainly' Moslem rebel force in the Central African Republic that overthrew the govt, imposed a regime of rapine and looting on the country's non-Moslem population, and was then tossed by France. They still exist, getting funding and weapons from somewhere or other, licking their wounds, complaining about the oppression of Moslems, and occasionally raping and looting someone...
movement "which is continuing to stage reprisal attacks against natives."

But a UPC (Unity of Central African People) source denied the group was involved in the latest attacks.

The source said a rival Seleka faction called the Popular Front for the Rebirth of the Central African Republic had raided the villages, adding that they were targeting UPC positions.

One of the world's poorest nations, the Central African Republic has been struggling to recover from a three-year civil war between the Moslem and Christian militias that started in 2013.

President Faustin-Archange Touadera took office in March 2016 with a mandate to lead a transition to peace but much of the country remains under the control of gangs.

Deadly festivities between rival factions have regularly broken out near the central town of Bambari, where a contingent of the U.N. peacekeeping force is based.

The fighting is linked to the control of lucrative mines in the mineral-rich country and racketeering.

An independent U.N. expert on Central Africa, Marie-Therese Keita-Bocoum, had in February deplored that "gangs have taken over more than 60 percent of the country."

Boko Haram gangsters arrested in Katutura

in Windhoek's Katutura suburb on Tuesday. A member of the Khomas police community affairs' department said the arrested gang members were aged between 16 and 27.

According to the police, the gang has been harassing people, as well as stealing and damaging property in parts of Katutura.

"These may sound like petty crimes, but it starts like this and if not controlled, it gets out of hand. There are various cases opened against the gang members, hence the arrests," the policewoman stated.

Deputy commissioner Edwin Kanguatjivi also confirmed the arrests, and said police were investigating the gang. But at this point in time, he could not comment extensively on the investigation.

An undercover police source told The Namibian yesterday that the gang appears to have about 100 members operating in areas such as Shandumbala, Okuryangava and Goreangab.

The source added that at least one gang member was wanted in connection with murder, and that the Boko Haram gang has increasingly become known for violence.

A Shandumbala resident, who was harassed by the gang, said the gangsters were more dangerous when they were under the influence of alcohol.

"I don't understand why these children are doing this. They don't care if you are an old person or not," the resident, who declined to be named, said. Another resident from the Gemengde area said they lived in fear of Boko Haram.

"I am a businesswoman. These boys would come to my place and provoke people. Sometimes they will pretend to fight each other, just to turn against the person trying to help. These boys are dangerous, especially in the evenings. They can easily kill you. They are very angry," she stressed.

MSF withdraws from hospital in Houthi-held region of Yemen
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The international medical humanitarian organization Médecins Sans Frontières (MSF) have decided to withdraw from al-Thawra hospital in the Houthi-held governorate of Ibb due to the breach of their "no weapons policy."

Since the turmoil began in the country after the 2014 Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to America™, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
coup in Sanaa, which led to an ongoing conflict that began in 2015, MSF has provided civilians with medical facilities that have become scarce due to the war.

"Due to our inability to run activities according to MSF’s principles of independence and impartiality, we have made the difficult decision to withdraw from Al Thawra hospital in Ibb," the program manager for MSF in Yemen, Hugues Robert, said in a statement on Thursday.

The statement stated that MSF, which employs 66 people in the hospital, would not depart immediately, but gradually over the next three months.

The head of the Yemeni government’s Higher Relief Committee, Abdul Raqeeb Fatah, said according to local media reports that the reason behind MSF’s withdrawal was due to harassment by Houthi militias who are in control of the area. The report said that turbans entered the hospital with weapons.

However,
some people cause happiness wherever they go; others whenever they go...
MSF denied the media reports, stating that they are not accurate. They said there have been no harassments and that medical personnel were never prevented from treating patients.

"The reason MSF decided to withdraw from the hospital was because people would refuse to leave their weapons outside before entering when we asked them to do so. This of course is a health and safety risk for both patients and staff," MSF press officer Maha Oda told Al Arabiya English, explaining that this was a breach of MSF’s no weapons policy.

from Chittagong earlier this month, believes that their other daughter Monji Ara Parvin may be in the Sylhet turban den.

As of 8pm Friday, police had two buildings in Shibbari area under Dakshin Surma upazila of Sylhet surrounded for 17 hours, having located a turban hideout there. Officials have said there is a woman named Morjina in there.

Zubaira and her husband Kamal Hossain, from Baishari union in Naikkhyangchhari upazila, Bandarban were killed during a police raid on March 16 in a turban den in Sitakunda, Chittagong.

Kamal, Zubaira and her brother Jahirul Haque left Bandarban over a year ago. Monji Ara, 16, left sometime later. The family says they were out of touch for eight months.

Bandarban police later said many people from the union had gone missing.

Ziabul Haque, Zubaira’s brother, said Monji Ara may be the woman named Morjina in the Sylhet den.

"Whether it is my sister or anyone else, if they are involved in anti-state activities they must be strictly punished," he said.

Sub-Inspector Abu Musa of the Baishari Police Investigation Centre said police cannot immediately confirm that Monji Ara is Morjina.

Britain
London attack: More about Westminster terrorist Khalid Masood as two people remain in custody
[Telegraph] Scotland Yard on Friday afternoon issued the image of the middle-aged British Moslem convert who brought carnage to the heart of London on Wednesday.

Two suspects, both men, remained in jug on Friday night. Seven people have been released with no further police action. A 32-year-old woman, tossed in the clink

in Manchester, has been bailed pending further inquiries, while a 39-year-old woman arrested in east London has been released on bail until late March.

Two people remain in hospital in a critical condition, one with life-threatening injuries. Two police officers injured in the attack are also in hospital with "significant injuries" after Masood ploughed a car down Westminster Bridge and stormed the Parliamentary estate arm

It comes after Mark Rowley, Scotland Yard's top anti-terror officer, disclosed that 2,700 items - including "massive amounts of computer data" - have already been seized in raids on 16 properties.

The revelations came as a picture emerged of the killer's nomadic lifestyle. Masood - a 52-year-old father of three with a string of convictions stretching back decades - claimed he was an English teacher. He was born in Kent on Christmas day, before later converting to Islam.

Hours before carrying out his atrocity, the career criminal stayed at a hotel in Brighton, telling staff as he checked out that he was he was going to London. He reportedly added: "It isn't what it used to be."
The Times of Israel adds:
Khalid Masood, who killed 4 outside the UK parliament, reportedly married a Moslem woman in 2004 and moved to Soddy Arabia

group claimed that Britannia’s deadliest terror attack in 12 years was conducted by one of its "soldiers" acting on a call to target countries in the US-led coalition fighting the jihadists.

Police said there was no further threat, but counter-terrorism commander Mark Rowley said they were trying to establish whether Masood acted alone "or if others have encouraged, supported or directed him."

Released by police, the passport-style photo of Masood, who also used the names Adrian Elms and Adrian Russell Ajao among other aliases, shows a black man with a shaved head and a goatee beard.

At least 50 people from 12 different countries were maimed when Masood plowed his rented car into crowds of people walking along the pavement on Westminster Bridge, before crashing the vehicle into the fence outside parliament.

Three people on the bridge died after being hit by the speeding car then the attacker leapt out and fatally stabbed a police officer just inside the gates of the Houses of Parliament before being rubbed out.

According to The Sun tabloid, he married a Moslem woman in 2004 and moved the following year to Saudi Arabia to teach English, returning in 2009, but officials could not confirm this.

Rowley said police were "looking at his history" and appealed to the public to come forward with any information about him.

"Our investigation focuses on understanding his motivation, preparation and associates," he said.

Detectives have searched 21 properties in London, Brighton, Wales, Manchester and the central English city of Birmingham in one of Britannia’s biggest counterterrorism operations in years. Wednesday’s attack was the deadliest in Britannia since jacket wallahs killed 52 commuters on London’s transit system in July 2005.

Rowley said that contact had been made with 3,500 witnesses, adding "We’ve received hundreds of uploads of video images to our online platform."

#1  Nobody seems to be doing a live feed today, choosing instead to post articles about what has been discovered about Mr. Masood's peripatetic life. The Daily Mail has three articles, the Telegraph and Guardian each have one, and while thus far there is some agreement -- born to a young mother who married well two years later, drugs and outbursts of violence in adulthood, prison conversion after 9/11, three sequential wives, time spent in Saudi Arabia teaching English -- there is disagreement on other things.

Fog of data collection -- no doubt consensus will be reached, but none of the articles called out to me to be posted at this point.

German state bans mosque group after imam calls for killings

[Ynet] German state officials say they've banned an Islamic cultural association that ran a mosque in the central German town of Kassel due to extremist comments. Hesse state Interior Minister Peter Beuth said Thursday that the Almadinah Islamic Culture Association was banned because the group's leading imam had, among other things, repeatedly called for the killing of infidels in his sermons. Investigations by the authorities also confirmed that several members of the mosque had already left Germany for Syria to join extremist Islamic fighters there.

Virginia federal judge rules in favor of Trump's travel ban
[LATIMES] Unlike federal judges before him, a judge in Virginia on Friday ruled in favor of President Trump’s revised travel ban in a case brought by Moslems who said the president’s executive order illegally discriminated against their religion by restricting travel from six majority-Moslem countries.

U.S. District Judge Anthony Trenga of the Eastern District Court of Virginia in Alexandria wrote that the plaintiffs, the Council on American-Islamic Relations
... the Moslem Brüderbund's American arm ...
and other Moslem community leaders from across the country, probably would not prevail in their suit.

Trenga said the travel ban likely "falls within the bounds" of Trump’s authority as president, and he rejected a request to halt the order.

Trenga’s ruling doesn’t have an immediate effect on the ban, which was put on hold by federal judges in Hawaii and Maryland last week. But it gives ammunition to government lawyers arguing for the ban across several U.S. courts where cases against it are are pending.

The Hawaii and Maryland rulings agreed with arguments that the travel ban violated the Constitution by discriminating against Moslems. The judges cited statements by Trump and his campaign associates about restricting Moslem travel to the U.S. as evidence of their intent to single out followers of Islam.

Trenga’s opinion gave less weight to Trump’s statements. It more strictly looked at how the travel ban is worded in light of presidential power over immigration and national security.

#2  Trenga said the travel ban likely "falls within the bounds" of Trump’s authority as president, and he rejected a request to halt the order.

Finally, a federal judge (Trenga) who knows the law and follows it--not a frickin bought lefty "judge in a box" who pops up whenever needed to push a lefty cause.

Video released of the 200 people reportedly killed by US-led airstrikes in Mosul
[ALMASDARNEWS] Footage shows disturbing images of some of the victims, including children and babies burnt beyond recognition as workers sift through the rubble to search for any remaining survivors and clear the debris. Some reports have put the corpse count from the Arclight airstrike at around 230.

... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
Hevidar Ahmed said that 130 of the people were killed inside one house alone, with a further 100 killed inside, most of them believed to be civilians.

"Some of the dead were taking shelter inside the homes," said the correspondent.

A US Central Command spokesperson has admitted that the US-led coalition carried out several Arclight airstrikes targetting IS forces in the region, but there has been no comment on the specific corpse count so far.

ISIS captured the city in 2014 and the offensive is now fronted by the US-led anti-IS coalition and the Iraqi army, who have been carrying out Arclight airstrikes in the city. Thousands of Mosul residents have been forced to flee the fighting as the campaign escalates.

Senior Hamas militant assassinated in Gaza Strip
[Jpost] Senior Hamas militant Mazen Fukaha was assassinated in the Gaza Strip on Friday, the Hamas-controlled Health Ministry in the small coastal enclave said.

"The martyr Mazen Fukaha was shot in the head leading to his death," Health Ministry Spokesman Ashraf al-Qidra said on Twitter.

The deadly incident took place in front of Fukaha’s home in the Tel al-Hawa neighborhood in the southern half of Gaza City.

The parties behind the assassination are unknown, the Hamas-backed Interior Ministry said in a statement, adding that the Hamas-dominated security services opened an investigation.

Hamas, however, accused Israel of carrying out the assassination.

"Hamas and its fighting brigades place the full responsibility for this reprehensible crime on the Israeli occupation and its collaborators," Hamas said in an official statement.
The Times of Israel adds:
Originally from a small village in the West Bank, Faqha headed the Hamas office tasked with launching terror attacks against Israel from and in the territory. His subordinates in the branch specialized in recruiting suicide attackers, collecting weapons and preparing explosive devices.

Faqha, 38, was responsible for sending a suicide bomber to carry out an attack in northern Israel in 2002 in which nine people were killed and 52 were wounded.

He was captured by the IDF and Shin Bet security services that year in his home village of Toubas in the northern West Bank.

According to a report in Haaretz from the time, Faqha was captured after a lengthy manhunt. He had previously been involved in several other attacks.

Before his release as part of the Shalit deal, Faqha was serving nine life sentences for planning the deadly 2002 terror attack.

Syrian SDF forces reach Tabqa dam; US, French forces reach Euphrates dam
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The US-backed Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) have reached the entrance to the Tabqa dam where they are clashing with ISIS, Jihan Sheikh Ahmed, the SDF’s spokeswoman for the campaign to drive the holy warrior group from Raqqa, said on Friday.

The US-led coalition against ISIS air-dropped SDF fighters near Tabqa late on Tuesday on the southern side of the Euphrates, and other militia fighters were already present on the river’s northern bank.

Al Arabiya’s sources also revealed that US and French forces have reached the Euphrates dam.

The dam, the biggest on the Euphrates, stretches 4km across the river to the southern bank and provides one of the few land crossings remaining after the destruction of many bridges during the conflict.

Tabqa is about 40 km (25 miles) west of Raqqa, which ISIS has used for years as one of its main bases of operations, including to plan and direct attacks overseas, and which sits along the northern bank of the Euphrates.

With the help of coalition air strikes and US special forces on the ground, the SDF launched an operation late last year to isolate Raqqa and has surrounded the city in a large pocket of land backing onto the river.

Late on Tuesday, the US coalition air dropped SDF forces onto the southern bank of the Euphrates west of Tabqa, part of their preparations for an assault on the dam and a nearby town and airbase of the same name.

Jean-Yves Le Drian, Foreign Minister of La Belle France, which is a member of the US-led coalition, said on Friday that the battle to recapture Raqqa was likely to being in the coming days.

Iranian militias support Assad in Damascus battle
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The official website of Harakat al Nujaba militia has published pictures showing the presence of its elements in the vicinity of Damascus, to support the head of the Syrian regime Bashar al Assad in his war against the Syrian opposition, which is acquiring military gains in Jubeir, Abbasin and Fares Khouri street.

Harakat al Nujaba, which adopts the ideology of Iran Supreme Leader Ali Khomeini, asserted that the images published by the elements are in the context of their presence in the "vicinity of Jubeir and Abbasin," according to a report released Thursday.

The militias have posted various pictures of their elements deployed in the area, in their uniforms.

One photograph shows the presence of one of the militias’ religious figures, without naming him, wearing his turban and uniform and carrying his chaplet.

Iran has brought dozens of sectarian militias to Syria to fight and maintain al Assad regime, led by the Lebanese Hezbollah militia, the Iraqi Nujaba which follow the ideology of Iran’s Supreme Leader, the Fatimiyoun militia and others.

Twin offensives in Syria put pressure on Islamic State
[PRESSHERALD] Syrian government forces are besieging the last Islamic State

stronghold in the northern province of Aleppo, weeks after launching an offensive to retake the entire province, state media and an opposition monitoring group reported Thursday.

The push on Deir Hafer comes as U.S. aircraft ferried Syrian Kurdish fighters and allies behind Islamic State lines to spearhead a major ground assault on the strategic town of Tabqa in Raqqa province, which borders Aleppo.

That airlift marked a deepening U.S. involvement in Syria’s conflict ahead of a looming battle for the murderous Moslem group’s de facto capital, the city of Raqqa.

The airlift was part of what Pentagon front man Eric Pahon described as a large, high-priority offensive to secure the area around Tabqa and the associated Tabqa Dam.

The twin offensives follow weeks of mounting pressure on the opposition to surrender in pockets outside Damascus. That campaign has been underway despite a nominal cease-fire signed last December.

rebel faction described the twin offensives as a message to negotiators in Geneva that "the revolutionaries are able to overturn the scales and return to a military solution."
