Rocket Fire Hits Libya Airport, Breaking Eid Truce
[AnNahar] Rocket fire hit the Libyan capital's sole functioning airport Sunday, violating a temporary truce between the unity government and forces loyal to strongman Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy, so it's kind of hard to describe him as a Qadaffy holdover. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
, airport authorities said.

"Mitiga airport has been targeted by fire this morning, the first day of Eid al-Adha
...a major Moslem holiday, marked by animal sacrifice and ritual rioting...
", the airport's management said in a statement on Facebook, referring to the three-day Moslem holiday that began on Sunday.

Air traffic was suspended "until further notice", the statement added, alongside photos showing columns of smoke rising from the runway and parked planes.

Haftar launched an offensive to take Libya's capital in early April, but encountered stiff resistance, resulting in months of stalemate in southern Tripoli

's outskirts.

His self-styled Libyan National Army (LNA) and the Tripoli-based Government of National Accord had on Saturday agreed to a U.N.-sponsored humanitarian truce
..The purposes of a truce are twofold: 1.) bring up more arms, ammunition, and reinforcements; and 2.) get the enemy to relax his vigilance. A truce is not the same thing as a ceasefire, and a ceasefire doesn't mean you have to stop shooting...
for Eid al-Adha, although the GNA had listed conditions, including a cessation of troop movements.

Late Sunday a joint statement from the United Arab Emirates, the United States, La Belle France, Italia and the UK welcomed the U.N. truce for the Moslem holiday and said they were "ready to assist the U.N. mission in monitoring the observance of the truce and address any attempt to break it."

But the GNA blamed Haftar's forces for the attack against the airport, and for a separate alleged attack in the Soug al-Jomaa district of Tripoli.

"Haftar's militias have violated the truce twice," GNA front man Mustafa al-Mejii told AFP.

"The first time targeted a home in Soug al-Jomaa, wounding three civilians, and the second hit Mitiga airport," he added.

Located east of Tripoli, Mitiga is a former military airbase that has been used by civilian traffic since Tripoli's international airport suffered severe damage during fighting in 2014.

Mitiga is in a zone under the control of forces loyal to the U.N.-recognized GNA and has often been targeted.

"We have noted the coordinates of the rocket fire from zones controlled by Haftar's militias south of the capital" and passed them on to the UN mission in Libya (UNSMIL), Mejii said.

Libyan TV channels also reported exchanges of fire around the road to the closed international airport on Sunday.

Over the past four months, 1,093 people have been killed in the fighting and 5,752 maimed, according to the World Health Organization (WHO), while more than 120,000 people have been displaced.

U.N.: Car Bomb Kills 3 U.N. Staff outside Mall in Libya
[AnNahar] A bomb-laden vehicle went kaboom! overnight outside a shopping mall in Libya's eastern city of Benghazi, killing at least three U.N. staff members, a front man for the United Nations

secretary-general said. The attack came even as the country's warring sides said they accepted a cease-fire proposed by the U.N. aimed at halting combat in the capital Tripoli

during an upcoming Moslem holiday.

Health officials said the blast took place outside Arkan Mall in the Hawari neighborhood, where people were gathering for shopping a day before the Eid al-Adha
...a major Moslem holiday, marked by animal sacrifice and ritual rioting...
holiday begins. The Benghazi municipal council said the attack targeted a convoy for the U.N. Support Mission in Libya.

The site of the attack is close to offices of the mission in Libya. Two of the dead hailed from Libya and Fuji, and the blast maimed nine people, according to health officials who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to brief news hounds.

Stéphane Dujarric, a front man for U.N. Secretary-General António Guterres, said in a statement that three U.N. workers were among the maimed.

The U.N. Security Council held an emergency meeting late Saturday afternoon on the situation.

Assistant Secretary-General for Africa Bintou Keita told members the attack took place in an area "supposedly under full security control" of the Libyan National Army of Gen. Khalifa Hifter.

She said the attack "highlights the continued danger of terrorism across the country," and it confirms that the latest hostilities are creating a vacuum "easily exploited by radical elements that strive on chaos and violence."

Keita said the U.N. doesn't intend to evacuate from Libya and she expressed hope that both sides will abide by their commitment to the Eid cease-fire.

Footage circulated online shows what appears to be burnt U.N.-owned vehicles as thick smoke bellows into the sky.

No group immediately grabbed credit for the attack, which came just a month after two bomb-laden vehicles went off in Benghazi, the stronghold for the self-styled LNA. The July attack killed at least four people and maimed 33 others.

If it takes place, the upcoming cease-fire would be the first since the LNA launched a surprise military offensive on April 4 aimed at capturing Tripoli, ushering in fierce battles with militias loosely allied with a U.N.-supported but weak administration in the capital.

The battle for Tripoli has killed over 1,100 people, mostly combatants, and has displaced more than 100,000 civilians. Thousands of African migrants colonists captured by Libyan forces supported by the Europe

[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Police in North Macedonia say border patrol officers found 22 migrants colonists from Pakistain and Bangladesh packed into an SUV and arrested the driver.

A media statement issued Sunday said the officers made the discovery on Saturday afternoon in southern North Macedonia, near the town of Demir Kapija.

Police allege the migrants colonists entered the country illegally from Greece and say they will be deported back there. The statement says the passengers were taken to a shelter in the border town of Gevgelija.

Qureshi, Bilawal spend Eidul Azha in AJK to show solidarity with Kashmiri people

They have fought four wars with India over it, the score currently 4-0 in New Delhi's favor. After 72 years of this nonsense, India cut the Gordian knot in 2019, removing the area's special status, breaking off Ladakh as a separate state, and allowing people from other areas to settle (or in the case of the Pandits, to resettle) there....

They offered Eid prayers alongside AJK Prime Minister Raja Farooq Haider in Muzaffarabad on Monday and will spend the festival in the region.

Later in a rally, Qureshi said he had come to Muzaffarabad to "congratulate" the Kashmiris because he had been "successful in securing the power of attorney" of China.

"They [Chinese government] have told me to tell Prime Minister Imran Khan
...aka The Great Khan, who is the lightweight's lightweight...

...boodling on the grand scale...
," he told cheering supporters. Qureshi paid tribute to those soldiers who were martyred while defending the region and those who were protecting the Line of Control (LoC) even on the occasion of Eid. He also assured Kashmiri people of Pakistain's support.

He urged political parties to come together on the Kashmir issue, saying that Pakistain must have a united stance on the matter.

"We have our differences [...] But there is no difference on the issue of Kashmir. If there was any difference, a joint resolution would not have been passed."

#1  Raja Farooq Haider is not sleeping well these days, the provincial 'King' of an imaginary State whose time is nearing.

When someone high up in the BJP (Incumbent Govt in India) leadership recently announced the move for J&K, they included the entire area of PoK (Pak occupied Kashmir), the federal fief of Raja in "the ongoing plan" to consolidate the Indian Union.

In the longer term, India does have a desire to re-acquire these territories. Territories we've already won and gifted back twice. Some well-placed ideologues also push for breaking up the state of Pakistain into its four principal states. When these individuals speak, it's the voice of the Party speaking.

Large explosion at an ammunition depot southwest of #Baghdad has injured 13
[TWITTER]
The Times of Israel adds:
Local media reported that the weapons storehouse was controlled by the Sayyid of Martyrs Battalions, an Iraqi Shiite militia supported by Israel’s nemesis Iran.

"An explosion occurred because of the piling up of munitions inside the Saqr military base in southern Baghdad," Iraq’s joint military-police Baghdad Operations Command wrote on its Facebook page.

The blast came amid reports that Israel has been increasingly carrying out Arclight airstrike
...KABOOM!...
s against Iran-backed militias in Iraq.

Last month, Asharq al-Awsat, an Arabic-language newspaper published in London, cited Western diplomatic sources as saying an Israeli F-35 plane was behind a July 19 strike on a rocket depot in a Shiite militia base north of Baghdad.

The Saudi-based al-Arabiya network reported at the time that members of Iran’s Revolutionary Guards Corps and Hezbollah had been killed in the strike. It said the base had shortly before the strike received Iranian ballistic missiles, which were hidden inside trucks.

Iraq’s military said at the time that one fighter was killed and two Iranians maimed, saying the strike was carried out by an unmanned drone. The United States denied involvement.

Asharq al-Awsat also said that Israel was behind another strike in Iraq carried out Sunday at Camp Ashraf, the former headquarters of the exiled People’s Mujahedin of Iran, located 40 kilometers northeast of Baghdad and 80 kilometers from the Iranian border.

That strike targeted Iranian advisers and a ballistic missile shipment, the newspaper cited sources as saying.

The Israel Defense Forces has not commented on the reports.
For those familiar with Baghdad, The Times of Israel adds in another article:
The blast occured in the Iraqi capital’s Dora neighborhood.
*sigh* Fog of war: the Jerusalem Post adds:
One person was killed and 29 others were injured after explosions were reported at a base of Iranian-backed Shia militias south of Baghdad, Iraq, according to Sky News Arabia. Shortly after, shells fell in the Green Zone of Baghdad where the American Embassy in Iraq is located, according to Sky News Arabia.

The Iraqi Ministry of Health earlier said 13 people were injured in the explosion, according to the Iranian IRNA news agency.

An Al Mayadeen correspondent reported that the explosions were caused by shells hitting the base held by al-Hashd ash-Sha'abi or Popular Mobilization Units (PMU) located in the Abu Dshir area, according to preliminary information.

Al-Ain news reported that an unidentified aircraft carried out the attack on the base to which the PMU recently transferred heavy weapons and missiles.

A police source said the fire was probably caused by negligence leading to poor storage conditions and high temperatures, according to Reuters.

It is unclear what the source of the earth-shattering kaboom was, although preliminary reports claim that the earth-shattering kaboom was caused by an explosive balloon.

The two drones that crossed the Gaza border were reportedly spotted by IDF forces who did not react to the drones, but observed them crossing the border for a short while and then crossing back.

IDF forces arrested one Paleostinian who crossed the Gaza border fence earlier on Sunday night carrying a knife and two bullets. The Paleostinian was taken for further investigation.

British warship sets sail for tanker escort mission in Gulf
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] British warship HMS Kent set sail for the Gulf on Monday to join a US-led mission protecting commercial shipping vessels in the region amid heightened political tension between the West and Iran.

Britannia has joined the United States in a maritime security mission in the Gulf to protect merchant vessels.

That comes after Iran
...a theocratic Shiite state divided among the Medes, the Persians, and the (Arab) Elamites. Formerly a fairly civilized nation ruled by a Shah, it became a victim of Islamic revolution in 1979. The nation is today noted for spontaneously taking over other countries' embassies, maintaining whorehouses run by clergymen, involvement in international drug trafficking, and financing sock puppet militias to extend the regime's influence. The word Iran is a cognate form of Aryan, the abbreviation IRGC is a cognate form of Stürmabteilung (or SA), the term Supreme Guide is a cognate form of either Shah or Führer or maybe both, and they hate Jews Zionists Jews. Their economy is based on the production of oil and vitriol...
seized a British oil tanker in the Strait of Hormuz. On July 4 British marines seized an Iranian vessel, which is suspected of smuggling oil to Syria, off the coast of Gibraltar.

"Our focus in the Gulf remains firmly one of de-escalating the current tensions," said Andy Brown, the ship’s commanding officer.

"But we are committed to upholding freedom of navigation and reassuring international shipping, which this deployment on operations aims to do."

The deployment was first announced last month and will see the Kent relieve another British ship, the Duncan, already working in the region.

The US and the UK have announced an "international maritime security mission" to protect merchant vessels in the Strait of Hormuz amid heightened tensions, as P&O Cruises has cancelled cruises around Dubai and the Arabian Gulf in response to Iran seizing foreign vessels.
