'Ricin poison' packages sent to Pentagon
A suspicious envelope that was addressed to President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
was intercepted by the Secret Service on Monday, US authorities say.

The envelope did not enter the White House, according to the authorities.

Two other packages suspected of containing the deadly poison ricin were found at a Pentagon mail screening facility and sent for FBI analysis.

Those envelopes - one of which was addressed to Defence Secretary James Mattis - were also found on Monday.

Mr Mattis was away in Gay Paree at the time.

The screening area is not inside the main building, which contains offices of high-ranking military officials.

The facility is now under quarantine, defence officials said on Tuesday.

The Secret Service said in a statement that the envelope addressed to the president "was not received at the White House, nor did it ever enter the White House".

It said it was "working jointly with our law enforcement partners to fully investigate this matter".

The two packages sent to the Department of Defence were detected by the Pentagon Force Protection Agency, according to the Pentagon.

All mail delivered on Monday is currently under quarantine, and "poses no threat to Pentagon personnel", a front man said.

Blast in Afghanistan election rally leaves 13 dead
[ARABNEWS] At least 13 people were killed and 30 others injured after an election rally was targeted by a jacket wallah in Afghanistan’s eastern Nangarhar

province on Tuesday.

The attack in Kama district was the first of its kind, targeting an election activity for the country’s parliamentary elections slated for Oct. 20.

More than 2,500 candidates formally launched their election campaign on Sept. 28, defying fear and intimidation.

Six candidates have already died in a wave of attacks by button men in recent months, while election centers have also come under attacks ‐ mostly claimed by ISIS ‐ resulting in the death of scores of people.

No group has yet grabbed credit for the recent attack that took place around midday in Sangar Saray area of Kama disctrict, east of the lovely provincial capital Jalalabad.
Al Ahram adds:

group grabbed credit for the attack in a statement carried by its Amaq news agency. The group has claimed a series of attacks this year that have killed scores of people in Nangarhar, on the border with Pakistain.

Another kaboom took place at a cricket ground in Nangarhar's Bati Kot district on Tuesday afternoon.

"Seven children aged between 12 and 15 years were maimed in the blast at the playground," Khogyani said.

Daesh announces death of senior militant in Egypt’s Sinai
[ARABNEWS] ISIS announced on Tuesday the death of a senior member of the group in Egypt’s Sinai peninsula, according to a social media posting, dealing a blow to snuffies behind a wave of attacks on Egyptian military and civilian targets.

The notice, published under the heading "caravan of the Shuhada" or deaders, showed a picture of a smiling young bearded man it identified as Abu Hamza al-Maqdisi.
...“from Jerusalem”?
Maqdisi, a Paleostinian, was in charge of the group’s planning and training operations in Sinai, it said without giving any detains on how he was killed, when or where.

There was no immediate comment from the Egyptian military on the report, but security sources said Maqdisi died along with two other people early on Monday in an air strike on their vehicle near Sheikh Zweid in northern Sinai.

The Egyptian military and police have been conducting an operation in Sinai since February to crush snuffies affiliated with ISIS. The operation came after an attack on a mosque last November that killed hundreds of worshippers.

The military has said hundreds of suspected snuffies have been killed as well as dozens of soldiers in the operation, which involves thousands of troops backed by heavy weapons and the air force.

Gunmen abduct former Benghazi mayor
[Libya Observer] Former Benghazi mayor and deputy spy chief of the east-based Interim Government Ahmed Araibi has been kidnapped in Arid Lamloum, Benghazi, identical sources reported.

Eyewitnesses said they heard gunshots during the abduction by "military men" in "five military vehicles."

They added that the vehicles had left after the shotguns ended and afterwards a military ambulance arrived in the residential area from where Araibi was kidnapped.

"Brigadier General Araibi was kidnapped with his son from his house and the CCTV cameras were broken by the kidnappers." Araibi's sister said on her Facebook page.

Sources said that the kidnappers are from Salafist brigade Tariq Bin Ziyad that is loyal to Khalifa Haftar
...Self-proclaimed Field Marshal, served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Meanwhile,
...back at the shootout, Butch clutched at his other shoulder......
reacting to the kidnap, the member of the House of Representatives Essam al-Jihani said he was waiting for the response of the official authorities regarding the abduction of Araibi.

He added on his Facebook that he wants Aqilah Saleh, Khalifa Haftar, Abdelrazik al-Nathori, and all authorities of the Interim Government to say something about the incident.

"This is a very bad indication, whether it was an abduction or an arrest." al-Jihani added.

Mitiga airport in Libya's capital resumes flights after brief shutdown
[Libya Observer] Flights have been resumed at Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
's Mitiga airport after hours-long suspension over the falling of a shell inside the airport Tuesday, the airport's administration confirmed.

The administration said that a meeting for transports deputy minister, civil aviation authority chief, Mitiga airport's director and other officials resulted in the resumption decision.

The airport suspended air traffic Tuesday morning, citing the safety of the travelers as rockets keep falling on the airport and in its vicinity.

"Hirak Shabaab Tarabulus" (Tripoli's Youths Movement) claimed the firing of the rocket on the airport, saying it was prompted by the fact that Special Deterrence Force (SDF) is still inside it.

The movement said on Facebook that the rocket fell near the reception lounge 10 minutes before the landing of a plane, vowing to target the airport again.

"We blame Abdelraouf Kara (SDF's Chief) for the ramification as he cares not for the travelers or for the airport but only cares for his position. We will get him out of there and the airport will be for all Libyans without ideological foreign-agenda-driven militias being in control." It explained.

After closure for several days during Tripoli festivities, Mitiga airport reopened last Thursday.

Jihadist insurgency: Mozambique to put 180 Islamist suspects on trial
[News24] Mozambique will on Wednesday put on trial 180 national and foreign citizens accused of involvement in deadly Islamist attacks in the northern province of Cabo Delgado, sources told AFP.

Over the last year, more than 50 people have been killed in gun, grenade and knife assaults in the growing jihadist insurgency, with the militants reportedly seeking to impose Sharia law in the Muslim-majority province.

The trial - the first since the attacks began - will be held in an improvised court in the jail where hundreds of suspected militants are being detained in Pemba, the provincial capital of Cabo Delgado, a court source said on Tuesday.

Among the defendants are 5O citizens from neighbouring Tanzania.

"This is only the first group to be tried among hundreds of detainees," a police source said.

The attackers are believed to have staged their first attack on a police station and military outpost in the town of Mocimboa da Praia in October 2017. Two officers died and 14 attackers were killed.

Mozambique Islamic Militants Attack Village Killing Several Civilians

At least 20 people have been beheaded in northern Mozambique by Islamic militant, children being among those targeted in Monjane village in Cabo Delgado province, a hotspot for mining and petroleum.

The Islamic militant group has a history of launching attacks in the region the whole of last year. The group that was formed in 2015 has been making millions of dollars from selling timber and rubies.

A statement by one of the victims, who is also the Monjane village elder, indicated that the attackers went for the chief as he was providing police officers with information about the outlawed group. Research has also shown that members of the group were stanch followers of Kenyan radical Islamic scholar, Abud Rogo, who was killed in 2012. After his death, his followers escaped to Kibiti, southern Tanzania close to the border of Mozambique.

Since last year October, police have arrested 200 of the militants.

Earlier this month, Mozambique’s parliament approved a bill that would punish acts of terrorism with jail terms of up to 24 years

#3  And a Reuters article in Investing.com in June names them:

Attacks in northern Mozambique kill 39 since May: report

(Reuters) - Attacks by armed groups in northern Mozambique, where huge gas reserves are being developed, have killed at least 39 people and displaced more than 1,000 since May, Human Rights Watch said on Tuesday.

Violence first broke out in Mozambique's northern province of Cabo Delgado in October last year, with local residents reporting gangs armed with machetes attacking police stations, torching villages and executing religious leaders.

The United States embassy last week advised its citizens to leave the province after attacks increased in a region where Anadarko Petroleum (NYSE:APC) is beginning to develop a $15 billion liquefied natural gas project.

Britain has also advised against traveling to the area.

The group implicated is known locally as Al-Sunna wa Jama’a and Al-Shabab, although there are no known links to the Somali group of the same name or any other Islamist movement.

Residents told Human Rights Watch attackers had burned a mosque and beheaded an Islamic leader in a June 5 attack where hundreds of homes and dozens of cattle were burned.

Mozambique has not been a focal point of Islamist militant activity in the past and police have been reluctant to ascribe the attacks to Islamists. About 30 percent of Mozambique's 30 million people are Roman Catholics; about 18 percent are Muslim.

#4  A search of the Rantburg archives using the term “Cabo Delgado“ yields the following:

10/29/2017: Locals called these raiders 'al-Shabaab'. Whether they call themselves this too, or whether it's because of their headgear and what they reportedly told locals after occupying Mocímboa da Praia - that they rejected state health and education and refused to pay taxes - is not yet clear.

There was understandably speculation at first that they were linked to the Somali jihadist group of the same name. But Dina cast doubt on this interpretation from the start, as he said they spoke in local languages including Swahili and Portuguese. There now seems to be consensus that they are local Moslems. Eric Morier-Genoud, the Mozambican-born political scientist from Queens University, Belfast, wrote in The Conversation that this was a group of local Moslems formed in 2014 and calling itself al-Shabaab.

3/30/2018: in Mocimboa, the emergence of a radical faction in the Moslem community was widely known. "It started three years ago. Fifty or so young people from the town said that we weren't true Moslems," said Ussene Amisse, a teacher at a Koranic school.

"Some of them learnt these things in Somalia. It was when they returned that they started to cause problems."

Radicalized men told their followers not to send their children to school, not to vote and to disobey the authorities.

"They followed the example of fundamentalists in other countries," sighs Amadi Mboni, one of the town's religious leaders.

"We knew, we informed our authorities of the danger -- but we weren't able to prevent some of our children and grandchildren from joining them."

According to official statistics, 17 percent of Mozambicans are Moslem but Islamic leaders say the real figure could be double. In Mocimboa, more than half of the population is Moslem.

Frelimo, the ruling party since national independence, has long trumpeted the peaceful coexistence of different religions in Mozambique. But the country's north has largely been excluded from the economic growth of the last 20 years.

Many in the north also doubt that they will reap the rewards of the vast gas deposits recently discovered off the shores of Palma near Mocimboa.

In a region which sees itself as a neglected outpost, radical al-Shabaab-style ideology has found a receptive audience.

Europe
Spain smashes jihadist ring operating in 17 jails
[IsraelTimes] Police in Spain dismantle a group that allegedly indoctrinated and recruited jihadists at 17 prisons across the country, the interior ministry says.

Police have questioned 25 prisoners in different jails who are "accused of being part of a group close to ISIS which was dedicated to radicalizing other prisoners," the ministry says in a statement, using an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) group.

The majority were Moroccans or Spanish nationals of Moroccan origin, a Spanish anti-terrorism source tells AFP. The rest were Spanish nationals who had converted to Islam and a Danish national.

The ring, which was made up of prisoners with a history of jihadism or who were themselves radicalized while behind bars, also sought to unite prisoners serving time for terrorist crimes in a so-called "Prison Front."

The ministry does not give details of the group’s activities but the anti-terrorism source says the ring did not have a "concrete plan" to carry out an attack. But it created a "belligerent state of mind towards prison staff."

French police raid Islamic center founded by Hezbollah supporter
[IsraelTimes] Authorities seize weapons, detain three, freeze funds of Centre Zahra La Belle France, started by anti-Zionist activist

French police detained three people and seized weapons during raids of a dozen homes and the headquarters of a Moslem association based outside the port city of Dunkirk during an anti-terrorism operation early Tuesday, officials said.

Authorities froze the funds of the Centre Zahra La Belle France, along with those of three other organizations and four men linked to the groups.

The weapons were solely "for the security of the center" and mainly belonged to Zahra France’s security detail.

— Yahia Gouasmi
Interior Minister Gerard Collomb said the prefecture of the region was in the process of closing the prayer room of Zahra La Belle France, headquartered in Grande-Synthe. He said the three detained were taken in for illegal weapons possession. Police didn’t say what types of weapons were found.

About 200 coppers searched homes and the headquarters of the association.

Some French media reports said that Zahra La Belle France was a leading center for Shiite Islam in Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
and is suspected of links to Iranian-backed Hezbollah, based in Leb, and to the Paleostinian Hamas, the well-beloved offspring of the Moslem Brotherhood,. The information couldn’t be immediately confirmed.

One Zahra La Belle France official cited in the order to freeze funds, Yahia Gouasmi, 68, told CNews TV channel that the weapons were solely "for the security of the center" and mainly belonged to Zahra La Belle France’s security detail.

"Everything is false," said Jamel Tahiri, 43, also among the four whose funds were being frozen. "We’re transparent. Everything is on [the] Internet."

Zahra La Belle France’s site describes the goal of the association as "to make known the message of Islam through the regard of the Prophet and his family."

The Zahra Centre La Belle France was founded in 2009 by Gouasmi, who has spoken in support of Lebanese Islamist group Hezbollah and the Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei.

Gouasmi is also the founder of the Anti-Zionist Party in La Belle France and is an associate of controversial comedian Dieudonne M’bala M’bala, a convicted anti-Semite.

The raids on Tuesday were staged as part of the "prevention of terrorism" procedures, regional authorities said in a statement.

Police have been closely following the activities of the Zahra Centre "because of the strong support by its leaders for several terrorist organizations and in favor of movements backing ideas that are contrary to the values" of La Belle France, a statement from local authorities said.

The small town of Grande-Synthe is known as a magnet for migrants colonists seeking to cross the English Channel to Britannia, and as a draw for smuggling activity that often thrives where migrants colonists congregate. However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
there was no known link between Zahra La Belle France and migrants colonists.

Turkey detains over 200 for 'illicit money transfers' to US
[DAWN] Ottoman Turkish police detained Tuesday over 200 people in a major nationwide crackdown on illicit money transfers to individuals of Iranian-origin living in the United States.

An Istanbul court issued arrest warrants for a total of 417 suspects and have so far rounded up 216 in a nationwide operation carried out in 40 cities, the official Anadolu news agency reported.

The suspects are facing charges including criminal conspiracy and violating measures to prevent terrorism financing, Anadolu said.

There were no further details on who the suspects are.

An investigation found that from the beginning of 2017 some 2.4 billion lira ($400 million) had been transferred from The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
to a total of 28,088 accounts abroad from several banks, it added.

Those conducting the money transfers earned "commissions", Anadolu said, citing the investigation, while the large majority of the recipients of the funds were people of Iranian origin living in the United States.

There were no further details on who these individuals were and if the transfers had an overall aim.

The arrests come as the United States is in the process of reimposing sanctions on Iran after Washington pulled out of a 2015 international deal limiting the nation's nuclear programme, including on Iran's ability to use the international financial system and export oil.

Mail Laced with Ricin Received at Pentagon Mail Facility
[PJ] Two pieces of mail intended for top Pentagon officials have tested positive for ricin and are being further analyzed by law enforcement.

"On Monday, the Pentagon Force Protection Agency detected a suspicious substance during mail screening at the Pentagon's remote screening facility," Pentagon spokesman Col. Rob Manning said in a statement today. "The envelopes were taken by the FBI this morning for further analysis."

"All USPS mail received at the Pentagon mail screening facility yesterday is currently under quarantine and poses no threat to Pentagon personnel," he added.

Boy killed, 9 injured in bomb blast in eastern India
[DAWN] Authorities say a seven-year-old boy has been killed and 9 other people were maimed in a kaboom in suburban Kolkata in India's eastern West Bengal state.

Barrackpore Police Commissioner Rajesh Kumar Singh says an investigation is underway into Tuesday morning's blast outside a shop closed on the Indian national holiday for Mahatma Gandhi's birthday.

The impact of the blast destroyed the shop's iron shutters.

Ten people standing outside the shop were maimed by debris and taken to a hospital, where the boy died.

Local Trinamool Congress party (TMC) leader Panchu Gopal Roy says he was the target of the kaboom.

In late August, nine people were killed in festivities in the state triggered by opposition parties contesting the victory of the ruling TMC party in recent local municipal elections.

7 terrorists killed, 3 injured as army repulses attack on North Waziristan border post
[DAWN] Seven bad boyz were potted and three others injured in an exchange of fire with a Pak border post in North Wazoo, the military's media wing said on Tuesday.

According to the statement issued by Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR), snuffies from across the Afghan border engaged in a 'fire raid' at the check-post, prompting army officials to quickly retaliate.

Military sources say due to the extensive fencing along the border, snuffies cannot physically attack and now resort to 'fire raids' ‐ concerted targeting of Pak assets from a distance.

Attacks on security forces and assassinations have witnessed a surge in the volatile North Waziristan since the army launched the Zarb-e-Azb

military operation against snuffies in June 2014, which also resulted in the displacement of over one million civilians.

On September 23, seven personnel of Pakistain Army, including an officer, were martyred when a group of soldiers was ambushed by bandidos forces of Evil in North Waziristan. In return fire, the surviving soldiers in the group killed nine attackers.

The incident comes weeks after gunnies shot up security officials in Balochistan's Killa Saifullah district, leaving two Levies personnel martyred and another injured.

Earlier on September 14, three Levies personnel were martyred and two others injured in a remote-controlled cycle of violence blast targeting the vehicle of Barshor’s assistant commissioner in Pishin district.

Naeem Hussain, 36, was intercepted at Clark International Airport in Pampanga province after arriving on an Emirates Airlines plane from Dubai on Sept 22, according to Deputy Immigration Commissioner Marc Red Mariñas.

"He was turned away because he is on our alert list of suspected international Death Eaters for being an alleged trainer of ISIS," Immigration Commissioner Jaime Morente said, using an Arabic reference to IS, the myrmidon group in Iraq and Syria.

Hussain was immediately excluded and booked on a return flight to Dubai, Mariñas said.

Records showed Hussain first tried to enter the Philippines in May, also from Dubai and through Ninoy Aquino International Airport in Manila.

France points finger at Iran over bomb plot, seizes assets
PARIS (Reuters) - France said on Tuesday there was no doubt Iran’s intelligence ministry was behind a June plot to attack an exiled opposition group’s rally outside Paris and it seized assets belonging to Tehran’s intelligence services and two Iranian nationals.

The hardening of relations between Paris and Tehran could have far-reaching consequences for Iran as President Hassan Rouhani’s government looks to European capitals to salvage a 2015 nuclear deal after the United States pulled out and reimposed tough sanctions on Iran.

"Behind all this was a long, meticulous and detailed investigation by our (intelligence) services that enabled us to reach the conclusion, without any doubt, that responsibility fell on the Iranian intelligence ministry," a French diplomatic source said.

The source, speaking after the government announced asset freezes, added that the deputy minister and director general of intelligence, Saeid Hashemi Moghadam, had ordered the attack and Assadollah Asadi, a Vienna-based diplomat held by German authorities, had put it into action.

was killed in a Russian Arclight airstrike on a Syrian village last Friday, an Iraqi commander said Sunday.

"We received certain information that the youngest son of IS chief Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi was killed in an airstrike conducted by Russia on a terrorist hideout in a Syrian village two days ago," Iraqi website Baghdad Today quoted Jabbar al-Ma’mori, a commander in the paramilitary Popular Mobilization Forces, as saying.

Today’s announcement comes a few months after another son of al-Baghdadi was announced dead following a fight with Syrian and Russian troops at a power station in central Homs province.

According to sources, al-Baghdadi has four sons from one wife and a son from another wife.

Al-Baghdadi has been reported killed or maimed on a number of occasions.

No reports about al-Baghdadi have been heard since September 2017, when he urged supporters to wage attacks against the West and keep fighting in Syria and neighboring Iraq.

IS Kills Druze Woman Captured in Syria Attack
[AnNahar] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group has killed a woman from a group of Druze hostages it seized during a deadly attack in Syria's Sweida province, a source and a monitor said Tuesday.

The 25-year-old was among more than 30 people IS jihadists kidnapped as they launched the deadliest attack to hit Sweida's Druze minority since the start of Syria's seven-year civil war.

In the attack on July 25, IS waged a series of suicide kabooms, shootings and stabbings that left more than 250 people dead across the southwestern province, most of them civilians.

It later emerged the jihadists had also kidnapped the group, mostly Druze women and their children, during the attack.

A source familiar with negotiations with the group told AFP that "relatives of Tharwat Abu Ammar were told Tuesday that she had been executed" by IS.

The jihadists also sent a picture of her, covered in blood, to a negotiator, the source said.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights war monitor said she had been shot in the head.

Like the other hostages, Abu Ammar came from the remote village of al-Shabaki in the province's eastern countryside, according to the Sweida 24 news agency.

The agency's head Nour Radwan told AFP that IS had killed her parents during the attack on the village.

IS claimed the Sweida attack via the Telegram messaging app, but it has not mentioned the captives or published pictures or videos of them on its social media channels.

In August, the group executed a 19-year-old male student among the captives, Radwan told AFP.

The following week, a 65-year-old Syrian woman among the captives died, with IS telling negotiators an illness caused her death.

IS has been in talks with Syria's government and its ally Russia to swap the hostages for jihadists held by the regime.

There is little information on what conditions the hostages are being kept in, including whether they are subject to torture or other abuses.

Sweida province is the heartland of the country's Druze minority, which made up around three percent of Syria's pre-war population -- or around 700,000 people.
