Happy 4th of July! Rare US independence declaration found in UK archive
It seems fitting that it is this year, when so much has changed, that an unexpected copy of the Declaration of Indepence is rediscovered, Wishing you and yours an Independence Day to remember, dear Reader, full of all the usual pleasures and the joy of seeing the freedoms that generation fought for being taken back from those who believe themselves to be our lords and masters.
[Yahoo] A rare parchment copy of the American Declaration of Independence has been found at a British archive among the papers of an aristocrat who supported the rebels, officials have said.

The manuscript was discovered at the West Sussex Record Office in the southern English city of Chichester by a team of researchers led by two Harvard University academics.

Tests supported the hypothesis that it was produced in the 1780s, West Sussex County Council said earlier this week -- just a few years after the declaration itself was issued in 1776.

The document "is the only other contemporary manuscript copy of the Declaration of Independence on parchment apart from the signed copy at the National Archives in Washington DC," known as the Matlack Declaration, a council statement said earlier this week.

There are other printed parchment copies and handwritten copies on paper but the Sussex Declaration, as it has been dubbed, and the Matlack Declaration in Washington are the only two known ceremonial parchment copies of the declaration.

Researchers said X-ray fluorescence analysis of the document found a high iron content in holes in the corner of the parchment, indicating that nails may have been used to hang it.

DNA tests also revealed the parchment was made of sheepskin.

The parchment is believed to originally belong to Charles Lennox, the Third Duke of Richmond, an army officer and politician known as the "Radical Duke" for his support of American colonists during the Revolution.

Saudi warplanes strike wedding convoy in northwestern Yemen, kill 11
[PRESSTV] Nearly a dozen people have bit the dust and several others sustained injuries when Saudi fighter jets carried out Arclight airstrikes against an arms wedding convoy in Yemen’s northwestern mountainous province of Sa’ada as the Riyadh regime presses ahead with its atrocious bombardment campaign against its crisis-stricken southern neighbor.

Europe
Austria gives Iran 48 hours to lift immunity of diplomat implicated in bomb plot
[IsraelTimes] Vienna says Iranian's diplomatic status to be revoked due to warrant for his arrest over planned attack on opposition group in La Belle France

Austria asked Tehran Tuesday to lift the immunity of an Iranian diplomat suspected of involvement in an alleged plot to bomb a rally by an exiled Iranian opposition group in La Belle France.

The diplomat, who is based at the embassy in Vienna, was detained in Germany on Saturday.

Vienna delivered the request to "lift the immunity of the Iranian diplomat" to Iran’s ambassador to Austria, who was summoned to the foreign ministry after news of the alleged plot emerged on Monday, a ministry front man said.

Austria also informed Iran on Tuesday that the diplomat would be "deprived of his diplomatic status within 48 hours because of the existence of a European arrest warrant" against him, said the front man, Matthias Forenbacher.

The diplomat was one of six people enjugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
in Belgium, La Belle France and Germany over the alleged plot.

The apparent foiled attack was to have targeted a meeting of thousands of Iranian opposition supporters in a northern suburb of the French capital that was also attended by leading US figures, including close allies of US President Donald Trump
...New York real estate developer, described by Dems as illiterate, racist, misogynistic, and what ever other unpleasant descriptions they can think of, elected by the rest of us as 45th President of the United States...
Federal prosecutors in Brussels first revealed the arrests, charging a husband and wife they described as Belgian nationals "of Iranian origin."

They said the Iranian diplomat in Vienna was believed to be a contact of the couple.

The arrests were revealed on the day Iranian President Hassan Rouhani arrived in Switzerland
...home of the Helvetians, famous for cheese, watches, yodeling, and William Tell...
on a visit that Tehran said was of "crucial importance" for cooperation between the Islamic Theocratic Republic and Europe
...also known as Moslem Lebensraum...
after the US withdrawal from the Iranian nuclear agreement.

Rouhani is also due to visit Austria, which currently holds the six-month presidency of the European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
Iran’s foreign minister dismissed the attack plot as a "false flag ploy" designed to overshadow Rouhani’s tour.

"How inconvenient: Just as we embark on a presidential visit to Europe, an alleged Iranian operation and its ’plotters’ arrested," Mohammad Javad Zarif tweeted.

Iraq
Iraqi forces launch raid to clear Diyala of ISIS remnants
[Rudaw] Iraqi security forces have launched a raid against ISIS elements in Diyala province, destroying and defusing explosives laid by the group.

The operation took place in dense orchards around several villages in northeastern Baquba town.

"The security forces ... have started their duties at Hawz, Makhisa, Kuba and Chalabi villages. The terrorist groups were using these villages," Duraid Suhail Hassan, a security official in Diyala, told Rudaw.

One member of the security forces was killed in the operation, he said.

Villagers are working with security forces to help clear the orchards of ISIS remnants.

"We had knowledge about the presence of the ISIS sleeper cells at the orchards and thus we launched the operation," Ahmed Khalil, an army soldier, said.

"A lot of bombs were defused and disposed of and a member of the security forces was killed by a sniper," Khalil said.

Militants responded with mortars and sniper rifles during the raid.

Another aim of the raid was to clear homes seized by murderous Moslems and return these to IDPs.

The rise in attacks in these areas has led military officials and community leaders to call for the Peshmerga to be redeployed. Kurdish forces were withdrawn from these disputed areas following the events of October 16.

In late June, Iraq’s military commander for Diyala province called for a joint operation with the Peshmerga to defeat ISIS remnants.

Although the Iraqi government declared the defeat of ISIS in December 2017, there have been sporadic military confrontations between ISIS remnants and Iraqi Security Forces, including the Kurdish Peshmerga ‐ around Makhmour and in the Hamrin mountains in Saladin province and Diyala.

Peshmerga forces carried out a raid in coordination with US-led coalition warplanes to trace the whereabouts of ISIS remnants around Mount Qarachogh on Saturday, killing a number of bad boys, according to an official.

The operation in Diyala also comes after the United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
Assistance Mission for Iraq (UNAMI) announced that acts of terrorism, violence and armed conflict across Iraq killed 76 civilians and injured 129 over the month of June 2018, of which the highest number of the fatalities was in Diyala and Kirkuk.

Diyala Governorate suffered 52 civilian casualties ‐16 killed and 36 injured. This was followed by Kirkuk,
... a thick stew of Arabs, Turkmen, Kurds, and probably Antarcticans, all of them mutually hostile most of the time...
which suffered 10 killed and 36 injured, and the Iraqi capital Baghdad, which suffered 19 killed and 18 injured.

#4  Egypt and Israel both give at least a half-day warning when they demo one of these.

Unless a 'cache' goes off or something.

Then again, warnings are so un-islamic.

Man, brother-in-law jailed for Abu Sayyaf involvement
[New Straits Times] A man and his brother-in-law were sentenced to six years and three years in jail respectively for being Abu Sayyaf militants and witholding information related to the terror group. Hajar Abdul Mubin and Abdul Syamir Dabilin were sentenced after they pleaded guilty to being members of Islamic State and intentional omission of information about a terror act.

The judge said Hajar was lucky because the prosecution team decided to offer an alternative charge. He said, "Fleeing to Malaysia is not a short cut for you to escape from involvement in Abu Sayyaf terror group. Your act can threaten the national security."

Earlier, counsel Zaini Bakar who represented the pair pleaded for lenient sentences against his clients. He said, "Hajar has not been a member of Abu Sayyaf since he escaped in 2015 while Abdul Syamir did not report about the former as he believed Hajar had repented."

The two were among 19 people nabbed by police in a series of raids between July 4 and Aug 30 last year, believed to have planned terror attacks during the Sea Games closing ceremony and National Day celebration in Malaysia last year.

Son of Islamic State head killed in Syria
[IsraelTimes] Hudhayfah al-Badri, son of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....

...the head of ISIS, or what remains of it, and a veteran of the Abu Graib jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us. So far he has been killed at least four times, though not yet by a stake through the heart...
, was killed during an attack by the jihadists in the central Syrian province of Homs, the IS propaganda agency Amaq announced Tuesday.

Al-Badri was killed in an "operation against the Nussayriyyah and the Russians at the thermal power station in Homs," the group said in a statement alongside a photo of a young man holding an assault rifle.

Nussayriyyah is the term used by IS for the Alawite sect of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Oppressor of the Syrians and the Lebs...
The jihadist presence is now confined to a few holdouts. The Islamic State group is estimated to control no more than three percent of Syria’s territory.

Last December the Iraqi government declared victory over IS but the military has continued regular operations targeting mostly desert areas along the porous Syrian border.

The group’s leader Baghdadi, who has been pronounced dead on several occasions, remains alive in Syrian territory by the Iraqi border, an Iraqi intelligence official said in May. Baghdadi was said to move around with only a small group of followers

Originally from Iraq, Baghdadi has been dubbed the "most wanted man on the planet" and the United States is offering a $25 million reward for his capture.

The Iraqi official said the noose was closing around the jihadist leader after Iraqi forces captured five top IS commanders in an unprecedented raid in Syria on March 24.

Last September, in the last voice message attributed to Baghdadi, the IS leader called on his fighters in Syria and Iraq to "resist" their enemies.

He had four children with his first wife and a son with his second wife.

Blast reported at Syrian warehouse used by Iranian-backed militias in Daraa province
[IsraelTimes] Monitoring group says unclear what caused kaboom, with some Arabic-language media blaming Israel

A powerful kaboom was reported Tuesday at a warehouse in southern Syria used by forces fighting on behalf of the Assad regime.

Arab media said the blast occurred at a storage site used by Iranian militia groups in the Daraa province of southern Syria, where the regime of Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Leveler of Latakia...
has been waging an intense offensive against rebel groups.

The facility was located on the on the Damascus-Daraa road, near the town of Mhajja.

Channel 10 news reported that several Arabic media sources attributed the kaboom to an Israeli strike on the position.

The Israeli military does not generally comment on alleged Arclight airstrikes in Syria, though Israeli leaders have repeatedly vowed to prevent Iran and its allies from entrenching themselves near Israel’s border

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said it was still not clear if the blast was the result of an attack, and if so, who was behind it.
