4 Kops die in checkpoint attack in Ghazni
At least four policemen were killed in a Taliban attack on a security check post in central Ghazni province on Sunday night, local police confirmed on Monday.

In addition, two other policemen were wounded.

The attack took place in Waghiz district of the province after Taliban insurgents attacked the police check post and clashed with security forces, provincial police chief Mohammad Zaman said.

“The Taliban also suffered casualties in the clash but there is no exact information,” Zaman said adding that the insurgents retreated after the attack.

Egypt army kills 6 terrorists in North Sinai raid: Armed Forces spokesman
[AlAhram] Egyptian security killed six bully boyz and seized a large amount of weapons during a raid on a hideout in North Sinai, Armed Forces front man Tamer El-Refaie said in a statement on Monday.

The statement came hours after the army said it that it foiled on Monday an attempt to smuggle arms and ammunition into the country through its border with Libya.

The Libyan border operation was part of efforts to track bully boyz involved in the Friday shootout between security forces and terrorist murderous Moslems in the Western Desert, which killed 16 coppers and injured 13 others.

Fifteen bully boyz were also killed or injured in Friday’s hours-long shootout, which took place in the Bahariya Oasis, about 135 kilometres southwest of Giza.

Morocco: 6 held in probe of alleged terror plot by Islamic State cell
[AlAhram] Moroccan authorities say they have placed in durance vile
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
six people suspected of being involved in the "terrorist plans" of an Lion of Islam cell allegedly linked to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group.

Morocco's interior ministry said Monday that the suspects were detained in the capital, Rabat, and two other cities.

The ministry says the people detained were allegedly linked to an Lion of Islam cell that was dismantled earlier this month. Eleven alleged members of the cell were arrested at the time in Fez, a Moroccan tourist destination and spiritual center, and in Khouribga, the alleged criminal mastermind's hometown.

According to the ministry, items seized from the suspected cell include chemicals used to make explosives; firearms, various types of ammunition, vests that could hold suicide bombs, combat batons, tear gas canisters, telecommunications devices and knives.

Egyptian warbirds catch, destroy Libyan convoy
Tunis, 23 October 2017:

Hard on the House of Representatives’ (HoR) sending its regrets to Cairo over the terrorist ambush in western Egypt in which at least 54 security personnel died, Egyptian warplanes have struck a suspect convoy entering the country from Libya.

The Egyptian air force has given few details the raid except that it targeted eight four-wheel-drive vehicles which it said were carrying arms and explosives. It is unclear if the airstrikes were made in the Libyan or the Egyptian part of the Western Desert. Past attacks by Egyptian warplanes appear to have gone in on both sides of the frontier.
And maybe they just wanted to eliminate an operative
The Egyptian military has supported the Libyan National Army (LNA) and its commander-in-chief Khalifa Hafter in part because of their declared joint determination to crush terrorists.

However, the LNA is now preoccupied with a range of operations including besieging Derna, consolidating its western advance to Bani Walid and seeking to improve its still shaky influence and control in the south of the country. It would therefore seem unlikely that any significant LNA force is currently patrolling its 1,115 kilometre border with Egypt.

Gunmen block Tripoli-Sebha road
Must be tax season in Libya
Tunis, 23 October 2017:

The armed group that last week cut off the water supply to Tripoli in a bid force the release of its leader has carried its threat to cut the road from Sebha to the capital – albeit temporarily.

Yesterday, vehicles were stopped on the road south of Sherwif. They were ordered to take the alternative but far longer route via Sukna and Waddan. However, later in the day the road was reopened to traffic.

The gunmen involved, members of a Brak Al-Shatti armed group led by Al-Mabrouk Ahnish, last week turned off the valves on the Man-Made River (MMR) pipeline, in an attempt to compel the Rada (“Deterrence”) forces in the Tripoli to release him. He was arrested along with a Sudanese colleague while in the Wirshefana district west of the capital at the beginning of last week and handed over to Rada.

In response, Mabrouk’s brother, Khalifa warned that he would blow up the MMR pipeline as well as the gas pipeline feeding into the Greenstream line to Italy and block the Sebha-Tripoli road. So far he has blocked the water and the road, although as far as the water supply is concerned he merely turned off the valves. There are, however, unconfirmed reports today that the control room at the Shwerif station controlling the power to the pumps on the MMR has been on fire.

There is no news about the gas pipeline.

Mabrouk Ahnish continues to be held at Mitiga airbase by Rada.

Tongo Tongo: Caught in a Deadly Ambush
The U.S. Special Forces team caught in a deadly ambush three weeks ago in Niger did not request help from nearby French forces for about an hour after the firefight began near a village the Americans had visited during a reconnaissance mission several hours prior, the Pentagon’s top general said Monday.

It then took the French another hour to get fighter jets over the American troops, according to a new timeline provided by Gen. Joseph F. Dunford Jr., chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. The disclosure doubles the amount of time the U.S. troops were believed to have fought without significant additional help.

"This is a very complex situation that they found themselves in, and a pretty tough firefight," Dunford said.

#1  Something seems off. When I was at Ft. Campbell we had the 5th Special Forces Group housed next to us. Their AO was Africa and they deployed there regularly. When we shot the shit together they stated their usual role wasn't to get in firefights. If they were engaged, they usually tried to disengage if possible as they weren't armed well enough most of the time for prolonged combat. They were there to train and support, nothing more.

Seems the SF guys have a similar mission now and it makes me wonder what the fucking hell they were doing being in a firefight for a goddamn hour before calling in support. If you see you have more and heavier shit coming in than you have going out, all military guys I know would call in support. If you can't break contact, call in support.

Something isn't adding up or these guys seriously fucked up playing Rambo with the locals.

Houthis, Yemenis ring up 9 casualties in attack in Abyan
ADEN: Four Yemeni soldiers and five assailants were killed in an attack on a military base in the southern province of Abyan on Monday, a security source said.

A car rigged with explosives carrying five men pulled up to a military base in the district of Mudiya in Abyan, the source told AFP preferring anonymity.

Four men wearing explosive belts ran out of the car toward the base, but were all shot dead before they could detonate, the source said.
The vehicle then exploded outside the base, killing the driver and four soldiers from a UAE-backed contingent in the Yemeni Army. Nine soldiers were also wounded.

Yemen’s southern provinces, including Abyan, are the site of a long-running US drone war against Al-Qaeda’s Yemeni branch.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula (AQAP) has flourished in the chaos of Yemen’s civil war. The US, the only government to operate drones over the impoverished country, considers AQAP to be the radical group’s most dangerous branch and backs the UAE-trained contingent in southern Yemen.

FBI: Florida man sympathized with IS, wanted to bomb mall
It's not clear to me that this idiot is even Muslim.
[KSLNews] A Florida man who described himself as a sympathizer of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
bully boy group faces terrorism-related charges stemming from a purported plot to bomb a Miami-area shopping mall, according to court documents filed Monday.

Vicente Adolfo Solano, 53, appeared at a brief hearing Monday afternoon on a charge of attempting to use a weapon of mass destruction at the Dolphin Mall west of Miami. Solano was tossed in the slammer
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
Friday after accepting a fake bomb provided by the FBI outside the mall, according to an FBI affidavit.
Because no terror plot is complete until the FBI is involved.
U.S. Magistrate Judge Chris McAliley said she will appoint a public defender to represent Solano, who is being held without bail. A bond hearing is set Thursday and Assistant U.S. Attorney Karen Gilbert said the government wants him kept behind bars until trial as a risk of flight and danger to the community.

Solano told the judge he works as a painter earning $13 an hour. No relatives appeared at the hearing. Court records show Solano has had only minor brushes with the law, most recently in 2014 and 2015 for driving with a suspended license. That document noted he had no prior felony record.

The FBI began investigating Solano in late September after a confidential informant tipped agents off about his plans, the affidavit said. Most of the subsequent conversations were recorded. Investigators also found three pro-Islamic State videos that Solano allegedly sent to the confidential informant.

"I am here because I like the way (Islamic State) confronts the United States and the countries of the coalition," Solano allegedly said in one video, wearing a black mask and shirt and standing in front of black flag. "The United States is the most terrorist country of all. I am going to plant a bomb ... that's how it's going to be done."

In a second video, Solano said he is a "sympathizer of the Islamic group, ISIS" using another acronym for the Islamic State.

It's not clear from the affidavit whether Solano had any links to any foreign terrorist groups. At one point, he told the confidential informant he had not discussed his plot with anyone else.

His plans started to come together in October when the confidential informant introduced Solano to an undercover FBI employee who could supposedly help build a bomb. Solano provided a sketch of the food court at the mall, which he thought would be most crowded, according to the FBI.

"It's easy because look ... I go in, I sit down, I leave it and goodbye. I leave it. I won't have a problem with that," Solano said in one conversation recorded by the FBI.

After buying screws and other materials to build the bomb, Solano met with the two undercover FBI men at a hotel to put it together. Then the three of them drove over to the mall, where "Solano took steps that he believed would arm the device and the timer to count down" on the fake bomb, the affidavit said.

Kind of makes you wonder about the FBI's involvement. Not that I'm suggesting they are a bunch of duplicitous weasels. But I've heard stories from the 60s where the most radical and violence-prone members of various radical groups turned out to be FBI confidential informants.

3 Gazans said briefly kidnapped by gunmen from Sinai
An odd little story.
[IsraelTimes] Hamas, a contraction of the Arabic words for "frothing at the mouth",-run interior ministry confirms laborers went missing on Egyptian border, but were returned 'safely' hours later

Three Gazook laborers went missing Monday morning while working in a tunnel on the Egyptian border, apparently kidnapped by Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
button men, but hours later were returned home safely, Gazoo’s Hamas-run interior ministry and witnesses said.

Iyad al-Bazm, the spokesperson for the ministry, confirmed "the disappearance" of three Paleostinian workers inside a tunnel on the Paleostinian-Egyptian border, adding that the disappearance was being investigated.

One witness told AFP that a group of masked button men snatched the three and took them across the border into Egypt’s Sinai Peninsula.

The account of the witness, who spoke on condition of anonymity, was not confirmed by authorities.

However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
a few hours after going missing, Bazm released another statement saying the workers had been located on the Egyptian-Paleostinian border, "and were returned safely to Gazoo."

The Safa News Agency reported the laborers had been kidnapped from a tunnel near the Salah-a-Din gate of the Rafah border crossing into Egypt. The motive for the kidnapping was not immediately clear

Gazooks use such tunnels to smuggle goods, weapons, and fighters into and out of the Paleostinian enclave that has been under Israeli and Egyptian blockade for a decade, following Hamas’s violent 2007 takeover of the Gazoo Strip and its use of the area as a launchpad for attacks on Israel.

Scores of Bodies Are Found in Syrian Town After ISIS Retreats
[NYT] BEIRUT, Lebanon ‐ As pro-government troops drove Islamic State fighters from a central Syrian town over the weekend, the retreating militants killed scores of civilians, dumping some bodies into wells and leaving others in the street, local residents and the Syrian state-run news media said on Monday.

The apparent mass killing is the latest example of the brutal reprisals that have taken place when territory changes hands in Syria’s multisided war, with civilians often bearing the brunt of the pain.

The carnage showed how the Islamic State can still spread havoc even as it loses major parts of its territory that once included large areas of Syria and Iraq.

At least 67 bodies had been identified in the town, Qaryatayn, northeast of Damascus, the capital, by Monday afternoon, according to local activists who posted an online list of the victims’ names.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which monitors the conflict, said that as many as 128 civilians had been killed in Qaryatayn in the past several weeks before the Islamic State fighters retreated.

10 ISIS terrorists killed in suspected Israeli airstrike
[ISRAELNATIONALNEWS] At least 10 members of a small jihadist faction linked to the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group were killed Monday by suspected Israeli air strikes in southern Syria, a monitor said.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the strikes hit the town of Sahm al-Jolan in the west of Daraa province.

The monitor said 10 fighters from the Jaish Khaled Bin Walid group were killed, along with two women believed to be the wives of fighters from the faction.

The strike hit a base belonging to the group, which has pledged allegiance to ISIS but was never formally incorporated into it.

The Observatory relies on a network of sources inside Syria, and says it determines whose planes carry out raids according to type, location, flight patterns and munitions used.

There was no immediate comment from the Israeli military on the report.

The Observatory said Monday's strike came several months after 16 fighters from the group were killed in suspected Israeli air strikes in the same area.

Jaish Khaled Bin Walid was formed in May 2016, and is an alliance of several jihadist groups, the largest of them the Yarmuk Martyrs Brigade, which was listed by Washington as a "terrorist" group.

In November 2016, Israel's army said it had targeted members of the Yarmuk Martyrs Brigade after they fired at an Israeli soldier in the Golan Heights.

The Observatory said Jaish Khaled Bin Walid is estimated to have some 1,200 fighters, and controls territory in western Daraa province, along the border with the Golan Heights.

The Bloody End of the Islamic State's Utopian Dream
[Defense One] The fall of Raqqa this week completed the slow-motion demolition of the world’s only utopian movement worthy of the name.

The fall of Raqqa this week completed the slow-motion demolition of the world’s only utopian movement worthy of the name. Like most utopian movements, the Islamic State was barbaric and iniquitous, precisely because it held its own refinement and egalitarianism in such high regard. Assume eventual absolution by history or God, and anything goes in the meantime.

The pleasure of dancing on the Islamic State’s grave should not be denied, even if it is true, as experts remind us, that its zombified hand might yet emerge from the earth to grab our ankles as we do so. Having lost Raqqa (and before it Hawija, Tal Afar, and Mosul), it now still holds border areas between Iraq and Syria, plus isolated territory in Libya, Sinai, Afghanistan, and the southern Philippines. What it no longer controls is territory from which it can make its most important claim‐that it has built a paradise on earth, where God’s law is the only law, and Muslims can live lives that fully express their faith. It once boasted that women, children, and the elderly could live full and happy lives in Raqqa. Now an invitation to hijra‐migration to Islamic State territory‐is simply an invitation to die quickly on the field of battle.

What hasn’t received much attention, amid the celebration, is the manner in which that death has been dealt. In May, Defense Secretary James Mattis said the war against the Islamic State had shifted from a war of attrition (slip their heads into a noose, then squeeze) to a war of "annihilation" and "humiliation." He has kept his word. Although many Islamic State fighters have surrendered‐sometimes in humiliating fashion‐almost all are Syrians and Iraqis who joined the group pragmatically, and not members of the 40,000-strong contingent of foreign fighters who migrated in the supposed path of God. We haven’t yet heard stories of mass surrender by foreign fighters. One American Islamic State fighter is in custody, out of well over a hundred known to have traveled to the battlefield. The desert plains of eastern Syria are strewn with the corpses of most of the others, I suspect, along with French, Tunisian, and Chechen colleagues.

ISIS executes 116 in Raqqa

BEIRUT: Daesh executed dozens of civilians this month in the Syrian desert, a monitor said Monday, in a gruesome massacre as the terrorists see their “caliphate” collapse.

The extremist group last week lost its key Syrian stronghold of Raqqa, the latest in a string of setbacks for the militants who are facing multiple offensives in both Syria and neighboring Iraq.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britain-based monitor, said Daesh fighters massacred more than 100 people in the desert town of Al-Qaryatain this month before they lost it to regime forces.

“IS (Daesh) has over a period of 20 days executed at least 116 civilians in reprisal killings, accusing them of collaboration with regime forces,” observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

Regime forces retook Al-Qaryatain, which lies in the central Homs province, on Saturday, three weeks after the terrorists seized control of it.

Daesh first occupied the town in 2015 and lost it to Russian-backed Syria forces last year.

“After the regime retook it (on Saturday), the town’s residents found the bodies on the streets. They had been shot dead or executed with knives,” Abdel Rahman said.

“Most of the IS fighters who attacked the town a month ago were sleeper cells ... They are from the town, know the town’s residents and who is for or against the regime,” he said.

The majority of those killed were executed in the last two days before Daesh lost the town again, he added.

The regime seized back Al-Qaryatain on Saturday after more than 200 terrorists withdrew from the town overnight, pulling back into the vast desert region that stretches all the way to the Iraqi border.
