#1  A stareo-lens camera?
Posted by: Skidmark || 08/23/2016 1:58 Comments || Top||

#2  Yes, a 'Stereo Camera'. Probably French made, based on the postcard's 'country of origin'.

Likely a Gaumont, Leullier or Jeanneret & Cie.

Those French manufacturers used the flip-up viewfinders for both their 'mono' and 'stereo' portable cameras. Usually the larger 'frame' was at the rear, though. That allowed the user to get the whole image background aligned and then center it with the smaller front sight as a reference point. Putting the larger frame at the front would be more difficult for stereo photos, in my opinion.

Tricky to use in either configuration. The advent of the optical viewfinder made it much easier.

US Service Member Killed by IED in Afghanistan
[ABC] A U.S. service member has died from wounds sustained today in an operation near Lashkar Gar in Helmand Province, Afghanistan, the Pentagon confirmed.

The service member was conducting "train, advise, assist" activities with Afghan counterparts when the patrol "triggered an improvised explosive device," or IED, according to a news release from U.S. Forces Afghanistan.

The Pentagon has not released the service member's name because of next-of-kin notification.

Another U.S. service member and six Afghan soldiers sustained wounds during the operation.

4 prominent Taliban commanders killed in East of Afghanistan
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] At least four prominent commanders of the Taliban group were killed during an operation in eastern Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
province of Afghanistan.

The Ministry of Interior (MoI) said the Taliban capos were identified as Naeem Khalid, Mohammad Arif, Al Badar and Abdul Rahman.

According to a statement by MoI, the Taliban capos were killed along with several others Death Eaters during a clash in Hesarak district.

The statement further added over all 21 Taliban Lions of Islam were killed and 27 others were maimed.

The Afghan cops also confiscated 3 PK machine guns, 3 Ak-47 rifles, 1 rocket launchers and some ammunition and explosives from the miliants, MoI added.

The Talibs group has not commented regarding the report so far.

Hesarak is among the relatively volatile districts in eastern Nangarhar province of Afghanistan where the Taliban Lions of Islam and Death Eaters belonging to the other krazed killer groups are actively operating.

The Talibs launched a coordinated attack on Hesarak district earlier this week but the security officials said the attack was repulsed by the Afghan forces.

1 dead in bombing in northern Jawzjan
At least one child was killed and three others were wounded in an explosion in northern Jawzjan province of Afghanistan, local officials said Monday.

The incident took place late on Sunday afternoon in Qosh Tapa district as the children were playing in the area and struck with an Improvised Explosive Device (IED) which was already planted.

Provincial police chief Rahmatullah Turkistani confirmed the incident but did not elaborate further on who had plated the explosives.

The anti-government armed militant groups including the Taliban insurgents have not commented regarding the incident so far.

Taliban insurgents and militants belonging to the other insurgent groups frequently use Improvised Explosive Device (IED) as the weapon of their choice to target the security forces but the ordinary civilians are often targeted in such attacks.

This comes as the United Nations Assistance Mission in Afghanistan released the latest civilian casualties report late last month which stated at least 3726 civilians were killed or wounded between January and June of this year.

The UN mission said the civilian casualties in the country has reached to a record number since counting began in 2009, with 5,166 civilians recorded killed or maimed in just the first six months of this year, of whom almost one-third were children. The total civilian casualty figure recorded by the UN between 1 January 2009 and 30 June 2016 has risen to 63,934, including 22,941 deaths and 40,993 injured.

According to the UN mission, the anti-government elements remain responsible for 60 percent of the civilian casualties with ground engagements continuing to cause the highest number of civilian casualties, followed by complex and suicide attacks and improved explosive devices (IEDs).

Taliban forces consolidate gains around Kunduz
[WASHINGTONPOST] Taliban Death Eaters intensified a third day of attacks Monday near the northern Afghan city of Kunduz, cutting off main roads to adjacent provinces and reportedly blowing up a bridge that links Afghanistan to neighboring Tajikistan. The sustained assault deepened fears that Kunduz could fall again into bully boy hands, as it did for two weeks in September and October in one of the worst setbacks for government forces in the 15-year war.

Senior Afghan military officials, as well as the civilian defense minister, have rushed to Kunduz to take charge of the fighting. Government forces have waged seesaw battles with Death Eaters since Saturday, and the Taliban has gained control of two s near the historic provincial capital as well as another area in adjacent Takhar province.

The latest fighting comes days after a major Taliban push into Baghlan province just south of Kunduz and several weeks after Taliban forces began closing in on Lashkar Gah in Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province. Lashkar Gah is another strategic city the Death Eaters have long sought to seize, forcing both Afghan and U.S. reinforcements to rush to the region.

Speaking to news hounds in Kunduz on Monday, the deputy army chief of staff, Lt. Gen. Murad Ali Murad, vowed not to allow the Taliban to retake Kunduz. In Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....

, told journalists Monday that U.S. officials are "very confident that Kunduz will not fall. We will be there to assist."

Cleveland said that the Taliban Death Eaters "are still clearly a threat" but that they have "still not been able to achieve their main strategic goal, to seize a major population center." He would not specify what role U.S. forces are playing in Kunduz, but he said A-29 light-attack aircraft have been deployed there, with U.S.-trained Afghan pilots.

Helmand's Nad Ali Still Under Siege By Taliban
Despite security forces having launched an operation in Nad Ali district of southern Helmand province, the district remains under siege by insurgents.

Soldiers battling the insurgents in the district have said that Nad Ali is only a few kilometers from Lashkargah, the provincial capital.

They said negligence on the part of local officials is the reason for the ongoing problem.

The soldiers also blasted government for not supplying them with enough military equipment.

Baghlan-Kunduz Highway Under Taliban Threat
Taliban insurgents have closed off the Baghlan-Kunduz highway in the Aliabad district of Kunduz, essentially minimizing traffic into or out of the provincial capital, local officials confirmed Monday.

Tariq Majidi, TOLOnews reporter who is in the area, said insurgents have created check posts along the key route and are stopping everyone travelling through the area.

He said the insurgents searching motorists, passengers and pedestrians in order to make sure no security force members get through their blockade to Kunduz city.

Local officials have confirmed the Taliban has created check posts in the Aliabad district, which is close to Kunduz city, and are searching all vehicles and people.

In addition to this, the Taliban also destroyed the key Alchin Bridge which links Kunduz city with Shir Khan Bandar, Imam Sahib, Dasht-e-Archi and Qala-e-Zal districts of the province.

But Shirzai Hamid, TOLOnews' reporter in Baghlan, said people are now avoiding the highway and using informal tracks to get in and out of Kunduz city.

He said insurgents are searching "all motorists, all people, (and even checking) their shoes and IDs to prevent government employees, especially security forces, from entering the city."

Highways, including the Kunduz-Baghlan route and the Khanabad road have seen a sharp drop in security in the past week after the Taliban increased their attacks in the surrounding areas.

Early Saturday, the insurgents attacked Khanabad and took control of the district for several hours but were eventually driven back by security forces.

TOLOnews correspondents report that currently security forces are in clashes with Taliban insurgents in Aliabad, Khanabad districts and on the outskirts of Kunduz city.

Sediqi Sediqqi, a spokesman for the Interior Ministry, on Monday confirmed clashes were ongoing and but said "there are enough troops in Kunduz city and (in districts) fighting the insurgents."

Sediqqi also said the U.S air force carried out strikes in some parts of Aliabad in which 22 insurgents were killed. Among those dead are Qari Nasir and Qari Omar, two Taliban commanders.

US Sends 100 Troops to Key Afghan City Under Taliban Siege
[MILITARY] The U.S. has sent 100 troops to the defense of Lashkar Gah, the capital of embattled Helmand

said Monday.

The U.S. troops are in a training and advisory role to the Afghan National Defense Security Forces and will provide a "new presence to assist the police zone" in Lashkar Gah, said Army Brig. Gen. Charles Cleveland, kept in touch with the world by Obamaphone,
...was ruled by a Democrat machine from 1942 through 1971. After the river caught fire during the administration of Carl Stokes they tried a Republican, then went back to being Democrats when the party hacked up Dennis Kucinich ...
, chief front man for U.S. commander Army Gen. John Nicholson, in a statement.

In a briefing to the Pentagon late last month, Nicholson said the Afghan Security Forces' 215th Corps had made progress in Helmand since cashiering corrupt leaders, but Cleveland made no attempt to downplay the seriousness of the situation in the province or the threat to Lashkar Gah.

"This is a big effort by the Taliban. This is probably the most serious push we've seen of the season," Cleveland said. He described the troop deployment as a "temporary effort" to advise the Afghan police, but he declined to put a timeline on how long they would stay.

The U.S. troops would be limited to an advisory role, although they would have the right to self defense. "They're not about to go out and conduct operations or something like that," Cleveland said.

Earlier this month, the Afghan forces sent reinforcements to Helmand but failed to hold off Taliban offensives that have cut off main roads to Lashkar Gah and gradually crept closer to the city.

Marine gunships enter the fight against the Islamic State in Libya
[WASHINGTONPOST] After nearly a month of Arclight airstrikes against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
fighters dug in around the Libyan city of Sirte, U.S. helicopter gunships have been dispatched to help root out the Death Eater group from some of the denser parts of the city.

A U.S. defense official, speaking on the condition of anonymity to discuss ongoing operations, said Marine AH-1W SuperCobra helicopters participated in strikes against the Islamic State over the weekend. According to a U.S. Africa Command release, U.S. forces conducted nine strikes from Friday to Sunday, targeting Islamic State fighting positions and vehicles.

The Islamic State fighters have retreated "to the densest, most built-up part of the city," the official said. "[The AH-1] is a platform that lends itself well to that kind of mission."

Helicopter gunships are usually best directed to their targets when they receive directions from combat air controllers on the ground, known as JTACs. While the United States has a small detachment of Special Operations forces in Sirte, most of the targeting information for the Arclight airstrikes there is being relayed to U.S. forces through Libyan government troops.

Outfitted with a 20mm cannon, rockets and missiles, the AH-1W SuperCobra is one of the newer variants of a helicopter that first saw combat in the later years of the Vietnam War. Currently, the United States Marine Corps operates the AH-1W SuperCobra and AH-1Z Viper as its premier gunships when it comes to supporting Marines on the ground. The Cobra and Viper often fly in what is called a mixed section, meaning the gunship usually flies along with UH-1 Huey, a transport helicopter outfitted with sensors and armed with heavy machine guns and rockets.

Until recently, the Arclight airstrikes in Sirte have been carried out by fixed-wing aircraft, such as the AV-8B Harrier ground attack jets. Helicopter gunships, such as the Cobra, fly low and slow and are able to attack targets more directly and systematically than, say, a jet that releases a bomb while screeching overhead at hundreds of miles an hour. Yet gunships, flying at low altitude and low speed, are more at risk of getting shot down by ground fire and shoulder-fired surface-to-air missiles, or MANPADS. IS abandons treasure hoard in Sirte
A major hoard of gold, cash and weapons has been discovered inside the IS security headquarters in Sirte.

The building was taken by Bunyan Marsous forces early yesterday. However it was not until overnight that the terrorists’ Hisbah (“Accountability”) centre was declared free of booby traps and could be properly searched,

In one room there were boxes of gold jewellery, wads of largely Tunisian currency, rifles and shotguns, computers, radios and cartoons of telephone cards.

The fact that such a large stash of valuables could fall into BM hands suggests that the IS terrorists are now primarily thinking about their own survival rather than the booty they had amassed.

Nigeria claims it killed Boko Haram's Shekau in raid
[AllAfrika] The Nigerian Army on Tuesday announced the death of three key commanders of the extremist Boko Haram sect.

The army said the terrorists were killed on Friday in a major air strike on their location in the dreaded Sambisa Forest.

The spokesperson for the Army, Sani Usman, said the leader of the terrorist group, Abubakar Shekau, was also inflicted with with "fatal injury" during the operation.

Mr. Sani, a colonel, said the bombardment was carried out on Friday while Mr. Shekau, who the Nigerian military had pronounced dead several times in the past years, was leading his group in performing the Friday prayers at a secret location called Tayye in the heart of the vast forest.

The military has repeatedly claimed credit for killing Mr. Shekau. But the sect denounced the claims each time saying its leader remained alive. At times, Mr. Shekau would appear in a video to prove he had not been killed.
Let's hope they've got him this time. We've grown tired of the teasing.

Robert Langdon: Last Western prisoner held in Afghanistan pardoned, flown home to Australia
[ABC] A former Australian soldier has been released from an Afghan jail after serving seven years for murder.

Robert Langdon initially received a death sentence in 2009 but always maintained his innocence, claiming he killed in self-defence. His family, after spending years campaigning for his freedom, received the news this week that a presidential pardon had been granted and he was on his way home.

"He certainly has been released and the family, of course, are very very pleased about that," family lawyer Stephen Kenny said.

Mr Langdon was initially convicted for shooting Afghan colleague Karimullah, when a dispute arose while they were escorting a convoy to an American military base in mid-2009. He was found guilty of killing the man, and then trying to blame the murder on a Taliban ambush.

The Australian was also accused of setting fire to the dead man's body and trying to flee the country. Mr Langdon was sentenced to death but later had his sentence reduced to a 20-year jail term after his family reportedly paid the family of the dead man a substantial sum of money in compensation.

Turkish Intelligence Now Has More Agents In Germany Than The Stasi Ever Did
[Daily Caller] An unnamed politician is stirring the pot in Germany, stating Sunday that Turkish intelligence, known as MIT, has a network of more than 800 agents operating 6,000 informants inside Germany.

What that figure amounts to is one informant for every 500 Turks in Germany, reports the German newspaper Die Welt.

Not even the Stasi, the once feared legendary East German secret police, managed to run a network inside the German Federal Republic this extensive, Deutsche Welle reports.

"This is no longer about an agency acquiring intelligence, but increasing performing repression," Erich Schmidt-Eenboom said. "Even the Stasi did not succeed in building up such a large army of agents in the federal republic."

MIT agents exist in Germany to put massive pressure on Turks, who may have valuable information or connections. There are approximately 3 million Turks living in Germany.

Green Party Member of Parliament (MP) Hans-Christian Ströbele noted there was an "unbelievable" amount of "secret activities" perpetrated by MIT.

Colonist news: Boy in Sweden killed by grenade tossed into apartment
Look for the buried lede at the end of paragraph 4.
[AlAhram] An eight-year-old boy was killed Monday when a grenade was thrown into the apartment in Sweden where he was sleeping, police said, adding he was likely the victim of an underworld feud.

The child was sleeping in the living room of an apartment in the working class neighbourhood of Biskopsgarden in Gothenburg, on Sweden's west coast, when a unidentified attacker threw a hand grenade through the window, police said in a statement.

At least five children and several adults were in the apartment at the time.

"One of the people registered at this address is a person convicted by a district court for murder" in a settling of scores between members of the Somali community in Gothenburg, police said.

In March 2015, gunnies burst into a pub in the Biskopsgarden neighbourhood, gunning down a man known to police and an innocent bystander in a spray of bullets. Eight people were convicted earlier this month for the attack, and handed sentences ranging from seven years to life in prison.

According to local newspaper Goteborgs-Posten, which conducted a lengthy investigation of the vendetta, the pub shooting spree was the culmination of several violent incidents between rival gangs over the drug market.

While Sweden is generally a peaceful, safe country with low crime rates, police have had difficulty addressing violence in poorer neighbourhoods in Stockholm, Gothenburg and Malmo. In recent years, there have been grenade attacks, shootings and incidents of car arson.

The issue has been one of the main topics of Sweden's political debate this summer, as cars have been torched in the neighbourhoods on an almost nightly basis.

The centre-right opposition has called for 2,000 more coppers to be hired, while the leftwing government has proposed a series of crime prevention measures.

Lone Wolf stabbing in Roanoke investigated by FBI
Yes, the FBI: where domestic terrorist investigations go for a proper burial...
A man in Roanoke (Virginia) allegedly shouted ‘Allah Akbar’ while attacking a man and woman with a knife Saturday, an incident being investigated by the FBI.

Roanoke County police said that the attack occurred Saturday evening at The Pines Apartments, as a man and woman were entering an apartment building. Witnesses heard their attacker yelling ‘Allah Akbar,’ police said Monday night.

The man fought off the attacker, police said, who fled the scene but was apprehended when he came into the same emergency room where the two victims were being treated. Police were in the hospital and soon arrested the suspect, identified as 20-year-old Wasil Farooqui of Roanoke County. He is charged with two counts of aggravated malicious wounding and is being held without bond at the Western Virginia Regional Jail.
No doubt he'll be found to have "mental issues"...
Roanoke police said the attack was believed to be random and that Farooqui had no connection to the victims.

Adam Lee, Special Agent In Charge of the FBI’s Richmond Field Office, said in a statement provided by local police that the agency is involved.

“While I cannot discuss details of the investigation at this time, I do want to reassure the community that we are working to determine the nature of the incident,” he said.
Best gumshoes in the land are working on it, and we'll never hear another word...

#1  Hey "Special" Agent Lee - how about discussing the dam details of the investigation for once...especially that part about where you all dropped the ball. You all are absolutely useless. The FBI knew about this guy and don't do anything about him after his failed attempt to join ISIS...

Hell, they even lost Mateen's wife...let her go on "travels" while they were preparing charges against her; knew about Mateen; knew about and even encouraged the two in Garland Texas; they knew about the brothers in Boston, and Nakoula video maker... WTF? - over.

I wish the FBI could tell us about all the ones they stopped...but, that would be a "secret" and they can't tell us...the terrible secret is that the FBI, nor DHS, nor State, aren't stopping anyone.

Rangers seal MQM stronghold Nine Zero
After arresting key Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leaders, including Dr Farooq Sattar and Amir Liaquat, Sindh Rangers on Monday sealed MQM stronghold Nine Zero after confiscating communication equipment.

According to local media reports, a heavy contingent of the paramilitary force arrested three party activists from Nine Zero. They also took control of the headquarters’ control room.

Earlier, Sindh Rangers Director General Maj-Gen Bilal Akbar had said the paramilitary force will release Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM) leader Dr Farooq Sattar after taking his statement.

The paramilitary force arrested Dr Sattar and Khawaja Izharul Hassan when the two were about to hold a press conference in wake of the attack on ARY News office in Karachi’s Saddar area.

Major General Akbar said that the paramilitary force will examine camera footage to identify perpetrators of the attack. “We won’t let anyone sabotage law and order in Karachi,” said the Rangers chief.

The paramilitary force also arrested several other Muttahida activists, including Amir Khan and Sajid Ahmed. Media reports say the arrested MQM activists will record their statements.

The development comes after one person was killed and five others injured after violent protesters stormed the office of ARY News.

The private news channel has alleged that the protesters were members of Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). ARY News further reported that the protesters entered the building and attacked the staff.

According to TV channels, MQM chief Altaf Hussain in his speech earlier today told protesters "to storm the offices of TV channels".

Earlier, Chief of Army Staff General Raheel Sharif directed Sindh Rangers Director General Maj-Gen Bilal Akbar to arrest those involved in the attack on ARY News office.

The army chief had a telephonic conversation with Major General Akbar in which he ordered the Rangers chief to maintain law and order situation in Karachi.

Farooq Sattar questioned the Rangers action, saying that under which law the paramilitary force was arresting him. A Rangers officer then asked Sattar to cooperate with the paramilitary force.

1 dead, 5 injured in attack on ARY News Karachi office
KARACHI: Violent protesters attacked an ARY News office in the Saddar area of the metropolis on Monday evening, which resulted in clash between police and the angry mob — killing one person and injuring several others.

Police later confirmed that "MQM workers pelted stones at police officials and the ARY office", adding that they also resorted to aerial firing outside the office.

Head of Emergency at Jinnah Post-Graduate Medical Centre (JPMC) Dr Seemin Jamali said, "At least one person was brought dead [to JPMC] while several others were injured." Dr Jamali later identified the deceased as Arif Saeed.

The ARY office is located in a busy part of the metropolis above the popular Zainab Market. Traffic came to a standstill due to the violent protests and all roads leading towards Governor House were sealed.

ARY News has alleged that the protesters were members of the Muttahida Qaumi Movement (MQM). The TV channel further reported that the protesters entered the building and attacked the staff.

According to TV channels, MQM chief Altaf Hussain in his speech earlier today told protesters "to storm the offices of TV channels".

Senior ARY anchor Kashif Abbasi said, "They are Muttahida people. He (Altaf) ordered them to do it and within 10 minutes all this happened."

A Samaa DSNG van was also attacked. Additionally, a police van and motorcycle of a traffic police official were reportedly set on fire.

Eyewitnesses at the Karachi Press Club said Rangers men with their faces covered ransacked the MQM camp in the area and arrested workers of the political party.

Alluding to a conspiracy against the MQM, MNA Syed Ali Raza Abidi tweeted, "MQM has been protesting since past 3 years non-violently. Regretfully masked men pre-present at Fawara Chawk created these deplorable scenes."

In a second tweet, Abidi said: "Disassociate yourself from violent mobs sent for a purpose!"

People were protesting peacefully at ARY office against biased media coverage when suddenly police started firing on peaceful protestors, claimed MQM leader Wasay Jalil.

Police resorted to shelling to disperse the angry mob and fired rubber bullets, injuring the protestors, DawnNews reported.

Meanwhile, Pak Sarzameen Party’s chief Mustafa Kamal, while addressing a press conference, said "whatever we had been saying has been proven right".

"The MQM chief has been creating a law and order situation in the metropolis by taking funding from Indian intelligence agency RAW," he claimed.

Condemnations

Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif strongly condemned the attack on the offices of private news channels in Karachi, and termed it “an attack on freedom of Press and expression”.

Nawaz directed the concerned authorities at the federal and provincial levels to immediately bring the culprits to task and ensure the safety of the civilians in general and journalist fraternity in particular.

Director General Sindh Rangers Major General Bilal Akbar, while issuing statement following the incident, guaranteed protection to the citizens.

“The attackers will be made to pay for their wrong deeds,” he said, adding, that no one is allowed to carry out violent protests.

Meanwhile, Army Chief General Raheel Sharif telephoned DG Rangers Sindh and asked him to expedite action against the culprits behind today’s incident, DawnNews reported.

A Sindh Police spokesman said that "Sindh IG has taken notice of violent attacks and firing at ARY News office".

The IG also ordered that security at media offices across the city should be increased while sealing the red zone.

Sindh Chief Minister Murad Ali Shah also took notice of the attack.

Baloch leaders booked for 'support' of Modi's comments: police
[DAWN] Five cases were registered against separatist Baloch leaders Brahamdagh Bugti, Harbiyar Marri and Banuk Karima Baloch for allegedly supporting Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi's statements on Balochistan
...the Pak province bordering Kandahar and Uruzgun provinces in Afghanistan and Sistan Baluchistan in Iran. Its native Baloch propulation is being displaced by Pashtuns and Punjabis and they aren't happy about it...
, police said.

The cases were registered on the complaints of petitioners Munir Ahmed, Maulana Muhammad Aslam, Muhammad Hussain, Ghulam Yaseen Jatak and Muhammad Rahim at five cop shoppes in Balochistan's Khuzdar area.

The Baloch leaders were booked under sections 120, 121, 123 and 353 of the Pakistain Penal Code. The sections refer to "concealing design to commit offence punishable with imprisonment", "waging or attempting to wage war or abetting waging of war against Pakistain", "concealing with intent to facilitate design to wage war", and "assault or criminal force to deter public servant from discharge of his duty".

Acting District Police Officer Khuzdar Muhammad Ashraf Jatak said the applicants claimed Bugti, Marri and Baloch had 'supported' Modi's Aug 15 speech.

The Indian premier in a speech on India's independence day ─ in what some analysts believe is a move to divert attention away from the Kashmire issue ─ said that the people of Balochistan, Gilgit Baltistan and Azad Jammu and Kashmire 'thanked him a lot in the past few days'.

Petitioner Munir Ahmed also alleged that the Baloch leaders had asked the Indian premier to commit aggression against Pakistain.

Modi's controversial statement sparked protests across Balochistan, with large numbers of rustics taking to the streets in protest in Dera Bugti, Khuzdar, Quetta, Chaman and other parts of the province.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Good Guys hit Syrian missile launcher in the Golan
DAMASCUS – In response to an earlier Syrian strike on its territory, Israeli air force bombed Monday a target in Syria, military sources said.

According to Israeli army officials, an errant fire from ongoing fighting between Syrian factions hit inside Israeli territory. Reportedly, the Syrian fire had struck an open area in the Golan Heights near the Syrian-Israeli border, without causing any injuries.

“In retaliation, the air force [of Israel] targeted a Syrian army launcher,” the Israeli military said on Monday.
"Hey! It wudn't us!"
"We don't care."
In November 2015, Israel conducted an airstrike near Damascus airport in the Syrian capital. Activists said in the time that the Israeli strike on Damascus had targeted a weapons shipment believed to be intended for Lebanese Hezbollah militia –which supports pro-Assad forces in the battles against rebel factions in Syria.

The Israeli army has conducted dozens of airstrikes on Syria since the outbreak of the civil war there. Israeli officials have repeatedly said that those strikes were to prevent Syrian regime and allied Hezbollah militia from obtaining advanced Iranian weapons.

'Explosives found at Lebanon border were part of Hezbollah terror plot'
[JPOST] Located in a wooded area of Metulla near the Lebanese border last month was smuggled into Israel by Hezbollah, the defense establishment now believes.

Defense sources estimate that the explosives were smuggled into Israel from Leb with the intention of being used in a terror attack.

A Hezbollah "courier" was likely supposed to collect the explosives, however a local farmer found the bag first, spoiling the plot.

Authorities originally believed that the explosives belonged to small-time Mister Bigs, however an investigation led to the assessment that Hezbollah was the actual culprit.

The Shi'ite terror organization regularly attempts to smuggle explosives and drugs over the border into Israel. The majority of these attempts are thwarted by intelligence information and the alertness of IDF patrols in the area.

As Israel and Hezbollah marked ten years since 2006's Second Leb War earlier this month, the terrorist group's leader, Hassan Nasrallah, warned against a possible rekindling of hostilities.

"Israel knows that there is no location in the country that is not in Hezbollah’s cross-hairs," Nasrallah said in a video broadcast.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Pentagon: US ready to down Syrian, Russian jets
[ALMASDARNEWS] The warning came after US fighter jets had tried to engage Syrian Arab Air Force aircraft in Syria last week, but the showdown was avoided as government planes left before the Americans arrived.

The Pentagon has announced that the USA is ready to down Syrian and Russian planes that they claim threaten American advisers who by international law are illegally operating in northern Syria.

On Friday, Pentagon front man Captain Jeff Davis claimed that US jets attempted to intercept Syrian planes to protect the American advisers operating illegally with Kurdish forces in Syria after Syrian government jets bombed areas of Hasakah when Kurdish police began an aggression against the National Defense Force.

On Monday, another Pentagon front man, Peter Cook, said, "We would continue to advise the Syrian regime to steer clear of those areas."

"We are going to defend our people on the ground, and do what we need to defend them," Cook told news hounds.

He said, "it’s not a no-fly zone," but added that "the Syrian regime would be wise to avoid areas where coalition forces have been operating."

Kurds launch attack on Hasaka
The Kurdish YPG militia launched a major assault on Monday to seize the last government-controlled parts of the northeastern Syrian city of Hasaka after calling on pro-government militias to surrender, Kurdish forces and residents said.

They said Kurdish forces began the offensive after midnight to take the southeastern district of Nashwa, close to where a security compound is located near the governor’s office close to the heart of the city.

The powerful YPG militia had earlier captured Ghwairan, the only major Arab neighborhood still in government hands.

The fighting this week in Hasaka, which is divided into zones of Kurdish and Syrian government control, marks the most violent confrontation between the Kurdish YPG militia and Damascus in more than five years of civil war.

The Syrian army deployed warplanes against the main armed Kurdish group for the first time during the war last week, prompting a US-led coalition to scramble aircraft to protect American special operations ground forces.

The YPG is at the heart of a US-led campaign against ISIS in Syria and controls swaths of the north, where Kurdish groups associated with the militia have set up their own government since the Syrian war began in 2011.

Syrian state media accused the YPG-affiliated security force known as the Asayish of violating a ceasefire and said its members had torched government buildings in Hasaka.

It accused the Asayish of igniting the violence through escalating “provocations”, including the bombing of army positions in Hasaka, and said the Asayish aimed to take control of the city.

“We will not retreat”
The YPG denied it had entered into a truce. It distributed leaflets and made loudspeaker calls across the city asking for army personnel and pro-government militias to hand over their weapons or face death.

“To all the elements of the regime and its militias who are besieged in the city you are targeted by our units,” leaflets distributed by the YPG said.

“This battle is decided and we will not retreat ... We call on you to give up your weapons or count yourselves dead.”

The YPG, known as the People’s Protection Units and which has ties to the Kurdistan Workers Party, appeared intent on leaving a nominal Syrian government presence confined to within a security zone in the heart of the city, where several key government buildings are located, Kurdish sources said.

The complete loss of Hasaka would be a big blow to President Bashar al-Assad’s government and would also dent efforts by Moscow, which had sought through a major military intervention last year to help Damascus regain lost territory and prevent new rebel gains.

Kurdish forces have expanded their control of the city despite the bombing of several locations by Syrian jets.

Thousands of civilians in the ethnically mixed city, including members of the Christian community, have fled to villages in the countryside as the fighting intensified, residents said.

The confrontation appears to have undone tacit understandings between the YPG and the Syrian army that had kept the city relatively calm.

Many critics and residents say the YPG was handed weapons and territory by the Syrian army at the start of the conflict as Assad sought to focus on crushing the mainly Sunni Arab rebels who sought to topple him.

Hasaka’s governor told state media after the flare-up of violence the military had armed the YPG with weapons and tanks to fight extremist elements but had not expected them to turn against them.

Hasaka’s population, swelled by displaced Syrians fleeing areas that fell under ISIS control, is broadly divided along ethnic lines, with Kurds mainly in the city’s eastern neighborhoods and Arabs in the southern parts.

Turkish artillery pounds Syrian rebel positions in Manbij
HASAKAH – The Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) said that the Turkish army on Monday shelled their SDF positions with heavy artillery.

Backed by the US-led coalition, the Kurdish-Arab SDF alliance is deemed the main force fighting the radical group of Islamic State (ISIS) in northern Syria.

“The Turkish state officially supports Daesh and bombs the positions of the Manbij military council and its countryside in the northern axis of the defence positions at Sajur river,” SDF spokesperson Sharvan Darwish said on Monday.

The pro-Turkish government newspaper Daily Sabah claimed that Turkey hit both ISIS and ‘PYD targets’ –in reference to Kurdish forces– in northern Manbij.

The SDF forces have recently established a military council for the ISIS-held city of Jarabulus in northern Syria and advanced around 10 kilometers from Jarabulus city on the border with Turkey.

Media reports suggest Turkey is preparing Syrian rebel forces to cross the border to take the city of Jarabulus.

“We in the military council of Jarabulus warn the Turkish government for its aggressive actions. We stress we will not stand idle towards such hostile acts,” the Jarabulus Military Council said.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlut Cavusoglu on Monday said that ISIS should be completely removed from the Turkish border, after an ISIS attack killed at least 54 people at a Kurdish wedding in the town of Gaziantep southern Turkey.

Speaking to ARA News, Nicholas Heras, a Washington-based Middle East researcher at the Centre for a New American Security, said that Turkey wants to prevent SDF advances against ISIS.

“Turkey has a vested interest in making sure that the SDF remains aware that nothing is sustainable in northern Syria without the Turks’ longterm buy-in,” he said.

“This is their way of signaling that, without forcing Turkey to invest in a ground campaign in Syria,” Heras added.

Last year in October and July Turkey also prevented Kurdish and FSA forces from crossing the Euphrates River, hitting them with artillery and tanks.

Syrian rebels dismantle ISIS mines in Manbij
ALEPPO – The US-led coalition said that operations of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) continue in the city of Manbij and that they support both opposition rebels in Manbij and al-Rai area.

“The Syrian Arab Coalition and the Syrian Democratic Forces continue operations in Manbij City in the ongoing effort to clear the liberated city of Da’esh [ISIS] fighters, identify and remove improvised explosive devices, and establish a defensive posture capable of thwarting a Da’esh counter-attack,” the coalition said in a press statement on Monday.

“The continued clearance is part of a broader effort to prepare defendable positions for long-term security in Manbij City,” the coalition added.

“After expelling ISIS from the city, we’ve warned civilians not to approach their houses before their cleared by the SDF. Our specialised teams are now dismantling a large deal of explosives and landmines left by ISIS terrorists,” Manbij Military council Commander, General Abu Amjad told ARA News in an earlier interview.

“The full extent and complexity of the improvised explosive devices and booby traps in Manbij City is slowly emerging and still presents a threat to civilians. These devices were left behind by Da’esh fighters to maim civilians and slow operations,” the coalition said.

“The population is receiving a variety of assistance throughout the area. The SAC established dedicated medical facilities and continues to work with Coalition partners to ensure the availability of humanitarian assistance. The Kurdish Regional Government increased the capacity of the Fishkapour crossing to allow the movement of non-government officials to deliver humanitarian assistance for internally displaced persons,” it added.

The coalition also stressed that it supports both the Turkish-backed rebels that fight against ISIS in al-Rai, and the SDF forces that continue to take control of villages north and south of Manbij.

“The Coalition-supported Syrian moderate opposition efforts in Manbij City and al-Rai continue to weaken Da’esh’s threat to Turkey, Europe, and the United States,” the coalition said.

#1  Common. The Iraqi Police don't call Da'esh the Islamic State - they call them the booby trap state due to the huge number of devices left behind when they leave an area.

Hezbollah destroys jihadist HQ in western Damascus
[ALMASDARNEWS] Hezbollah carried out another powerful attack against the jihadist rebels of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham (formerly Nusra Front) in the Qalamoun Mountains of rural Damascus on Monday.

Hezbollah’s media wing captured footage of the missile strike that destroyed the Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham headquarters near the Jaroud Jarajeer border-crossing.

This ATGM (anti-tank guided missile) attack by Hezbollah on Monday marks the second time in the last 24 hours that they have targeted one of Jabhat Fateh Al-Sham’s positions near the Lebanese-Syrian border-crossing.

ISIS detains 100 in Raqqa

RAQQA – Radical group of the Islamic State (ISIS) has launched a campaign of arrests in Syria’s northeastern Raqqa province, targeting civilians the group says have been involved in cooperating hostile parties, activists and eyewitnesses reported on Monday.

The ISIS-linked Hisba police arrested over 100 people in Raqqa on Sunday and Monday, mostly young men.

“They were accused of cooperating with and supporting anti-ISIS forces, such as the western coalition and Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF),” a local media activist told ARA News, speaking on condition of anonymity for security concerns.

This comes amid continues advance by the SDF against ISIS, taking over key territory from the militant group including the city of Manbij on the Syrian-Turkish border–which has for long served as a key jihadi border pocket for ISIS.

Also, the US-led coalition has recently bombed major headquarters for ISIS in Raqqa –the de facto capital of the group’s self-declared Caliphate– causing heavy losses in ISIS’s ranks.

“The SDF has made advances against the group in the northern countryside of Raqqa, coupled with heavy airstrikes by the coalition on ISIS positions in western Raqqa,” a local rights activist told ARA News, adding: “This has raised the group’s concerns about the presence of what they call ‘spies’ leaking security information to those anti-ISIS forces in Syria, which explains the recent arbitrary arrests by the group.”

6 die in roadside bomb attack near Hawija

Six Iraqi civilians were killed on Monday when a bomb planted by the ISIS group went off as they tried to flee the Hawijah area, security officials said.

Thousands of people have been fleeing ISIS rule in Hawijah, which lies about 220 kilometres (140 miles) north of Baghdad, in recent weeks.

“Six civilians were killed and five wounded by an IED (improvised explosive device),” a colonel in the Kurdish peshmerga forces told AFP.

“It happened during an attempt by families to flee areas southeast of Kirkuk and reach peshmerga positions,” he said, speaking on condition of anonymity.

“Among them were women and children,” he added.

Other local officials confirmed the information.

Much of the area is littered by bombs and booby traps rigged by ISIS to prevent movements by Iraqi security forces.

The militants have repeatedly tried to prevent an exodus of the population before a government military operation to retake their areas.

In June this year, ISIS fighters opened fire on families trying to slip out of the city of Fallujah as Iraqi security forces prepared to move in.

A provincial official in charge of displaced people, Ammar Sabah, said 650 people who had successfully escaped ISIS areas were taken to camps east of Kirkuk on Sunday.

Peshmerga fighters and allied forces have been tightening the noose around Hawijah and neighbouring villages that ISIS has controlled since June 2014.

More and more civilians have fled Hawijah and its surroundings lately, with Sabah putting the number at 3,000 over the past week alone.
