32 ISIS targets die in Nangarhar
At least 32 Daesh militants were killed during an operation conducted by Afghan National Security Force (ANSF) members in eastern Nangarhar province on Thursday night, officials said.

The operation was conducted Thursday night in Achin district, said Haji Ghalib Mujahid, the district governor.

According to Muhahid, a radio base of Daesh was also destroyed which the governor said was the communication source for militants to take commands from their leaders in Iraq and Syria.

Daesh is an extremist Islamic militant group that emerged in war-weary Iraq and Syria.

Their sightings were also confirmed few months ago in parts of Afghanistan.

Insurgents Attack Marjah District As Helmand Operation Continues
After being repelled from Nad-e-Ali district and parts of Lashkargah, the provincial capital, the Taliban insurgents have moved towards Marjah district and seized control of some areas.

Embedded with security forces, TOLOnews correspondent Tamim Hamid said heavy clashes broke out Friday between security forces and Taliban militants, which resulted in collapse of parts of Marjah and Haji Haidar areas to the insurgents.

"Nearly 800 Taliban fighters took part in the attack on Marjah over the past 24 hours," he quoted a security official as saying.

According to him, several families have evacuated Marjah after the insurgents started using their homes as shields.

"Only one person has left at our home while the rest have fled to safe areas," a resident of Marjah told TOLOnews.

Nine Shaboobs killed in KDF raid
Nine al Shabaab terrorists were on Friday killed during an operation at Jungal in Somalia, KDF Spokesman David Obonyo has said. Obonyo said the terrorists were attacked when their vehicle got stuck as Amisom troops pursued them.
"Bridgestones don't fail us now!"
“Nine AK 47 rifles, five IEDs, assorted bullets, a double cabin Hilux Surf and a shutter gun tractor, which the terrorists were using have been recovered,” he told the Star on phone.

Obonyo said the recovered items, including a boat the terrorists have been using to cross the Juba river into Gedo, have been confined at Bardhere camp.

The spokesman refuted claims on social media that there were clashes between KDF officers and al Shabaab militia in Billis, Quocane and Tabda areas.

“The reports are not true. It was just a small attack but nobody was killed or injured. The attack was repulsed,” Obonyo said.

He said KDF are going on with operations and duties as usual and warned social media users against spreading false reports.

“I have not talked to anybody about anything, so I wonder where they are getting this information.”

This comes two weeks after KDF destroyed al Shabaab base in Somalia killing 15 terrorists.

Rocket attack on UK Passenger Jet landing in Sharm El Sheikh IN AUGUST
Yet it never made the news, cuz teh proles might panic
A British plane carrying 189 passengers came 'within 1,000ft' of a rocket as it approached Sharm El Sheikh, it emerged last night.

The Thomson flight from London Stansted only took evasive action after the pilot spotted the missile speeding through the air. The jet landed safely, and holidaymakers were not told they had been seconds from disaster.

The revelation comes amid claims British jihadists had spoken about an Islamic State 'mole' at Sharm el-Sheikh airport minutes after a Metrojet plane crashed in Sinai, killing all 224 on board.

According to the Sun, British extremists were discussing details of the plot in online 'chatter' picked up by US intelligence officers. Sources told the newspaper there was suggestion there might still be an Islamic State agent active in Sharm el-Sheikh airport.

Meanwhile, US news outlet NBC said American officials had heard leaders from the terror group boasting about the downing of a Russian passenger jet over Egypt. Citing unnamed officials, the report said ISIS chiefs in Raqqa, Syria, were heard speaking to an affiliated group in the Sinai Peninsula about taking down the plane and how it was done.

An intercepted message from the group also warned of 'something big in the area' before the crash.

The Department for Transport confirmed the Thomson near-miss incident took place on August 23 – just two months before the Metrojet plane crash. A source said: 'The first officer was in charge at the time but the pilot was in the cockpit and saw the rocket coming towards the plane.

'He ordered that the flight turn to the left to avoid the rocket, which was about 1,000ft away.'

They said the five members of cabin crew only found out about the incident after landing.

The 'shaken' staff were offered the chance to stay the night in Egypt, but chose to head straight back to the UK on a flight that took off with no internal or external lights.

Imam gunned down in Ajdabiya
Another imam has been shot dead in Ajdabiya. Faraj Al-Oraibi, a Salafist preacher who also works as a pharmacist, was leaving the town’s Isra Mosque after Isha prayers (night prayers) last night when he was shot in the head by unknown assailants who were waiting in parked car outside. They then sped off. According to a source in the town, a hand gun was used.

The assassination has been blamed on the Islamic State (IS) who regard Salafists with particular hatred, viewing them as “kufar” or unbelievers.

A week ago, Salafist imam, Suleiman Kabylie, was killed when a bomb exploded under his car. He had been an outspoken critic of IS, denouncing its supporters as terrorists. Three weeks ago, another imam was badly wounded when a bomb blew up under his car; his nephew was killed in the attack. Just four days ago, Sheikh Salem Rahil yet another Salafist imam also escaped death when gunmen tried to shoot him.

Tunisia: Five men nabbed as they planned to join IS in Libya
Security sources Wednesday said they arrested five Tunisians in the Remada, in the governorate of Tataouine as the men were trying to join IS in Libya, now a training ground for jihadists. Police sources say the men had been watched for quite a time and security forces received confirmations that they were planning to join IS in Libya.

“Suspects were arrested when they were about to contact smugglers,” a security source told Tunisian news agency TAP.

Reports say the five men and the smugglers have been transferred to the anti-terrorism brigade.

A recent UN report said thousands of young Tunisians have left the country and have joined terrorist organisations namely IS in conflict zones, mainly in Libya and Syria.

The two deadly terrorist attacks which rocked the country this year had been claimed by the IS group with reports suggesting that the three gunmen authors of the attacks had been trained in neighbouring Libya.

To halt the flux of young Tunisians joining IS in Libya, authorities have started building a wall along the border between the two countries. Besides, authorities are planning the creation of the country’s own security and intelligence national agency which will address terrorist threat and curb further attacks in the country and at regional level.

Also this week, authorities have upgraded security level after forces received alerts of existence of terrorist training camps 70 km off the country’s borders.

Tunisia President Essebsi repeatedly pledged Tunisia’s full participation in the internationally concerted actions to stamp out terrorism.

Russian plane black boxes point to 'attack'
An analysis of black boxes from the Russian plane that crashed in Egypt point to a bomb attack, sources close to the probe said on Friday, as Moscow halted flights to the country.

The flight data and voice recorders showed "everything was normal" until both failed at 24 minutes after takeoff, pointing to "a very sudden explosive decompression," one source said. The data "strongly favours" the theory a bomb on board had brought down the plane, he added.

Another source said the plane had gone down suddenly and violently.

One of the black boxes recovered from the crash site showed that the plane suffered "a violent, sudden" end, a source close to the case in Paris told AFP. The flight data recorder showed that "everything was normal during the flight, absolutely normal, and suddenly there was nothing".

President Vladimir Putin ordered flights halted on the recommendation from his security chief, the Kremlin said, although Moscow had previously downplayed reports that a bomb caused the crash.

At an emergency meeting, the head of Russia's FSB security service, Alexander Bortnikov, said it would be prudent to halt flights for now.

"Until we have determined the true reasons for what happened, I consider it expedient to stop flights by Russian aviation to Egypt," he said.

With international concerns mounting, European airlines prepared to bring home thousands of tourists from the Red Sea resort, which has been a jewel in Egypt's tourism crown.

A first flight landed at London's Gatwick airport on Friday afternoon, after a lengthy delay to its departure. Another plane was also headed for Britain. There were angry scenes at the airport as thousands of anxious Britons, who had also hoped to fly home, were sent back to their hotels after Egypt blocked several other repatriation flights.

Egyptian Aviation Minister Hossam Kamal said only eight of 29 flights would take off because the airport could not cope with all the luggage left behind.

In a sign of mounting fears about the security of baggage handling in Egypt, Dutch carrier KLM announced that it had banned check-in luggage on an early flight from Cairo, mirroring moves taken by several European airlines.

The Daesh group has claimed responsibility for the disaster, in which all 224 on board the Saint Petersburg were killed, most of them Russian tourists.

Cairo has sought to downplay any suggestion of an attack.

But US President Barack Obama said: "I think there is a possibility that there was a bomb on board and we are taking that very seriously," while emphasising it was too early to say for sure.

In London, where David Cameron hosted Egyptian President Abdel Fattah Al Sisi on Thursday, the British prime minister told reporters it was "more likely than not that it was a terrorist bomb" that caused the crash.

And The Times newspaper reported Friday that electronic communications intercepted by British and US intelligence suggested a bomb may have been carried onto the plane. Satellites uncovered chatter between militants in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula and Syria, it said.

"The tone and content of the messages convinced analysts that a bomb had been carried on board by a passenger or a member of the airport ground staff," the newspaper reported, without giving a source.

Egypt has beefed up security at airports to "give confidence to the British government, but that does not mean we concur with any scenario," foreign ministry spokesman Ahmed Abu Zeid said.

Three killed in car bomb explosion in Egypt's Sharqiya
[AlAhram] Three people were killed in a boom-mobile kaboom in the city of Abu Kbeer in the Nile Delta's Sharqiya governorate, state owned MENA agency reported.

MENA quoted a security source that said two of the people killed were affiliated with the outlawed moderate and non-violent
Moslem Brüderbund and had arrest warrants issued against them in several cases.

The third person killed in the blast was passing by the street when the kaboom took place.

Bomb disposal experts arrived at the scene to inspect the car and determine the reasons and circumstances of the accident, a security source said.

The source added that a security cordon was imposed at the site of the kaboom until the investigation is complete.

Arabia
Yemeni Army, Committees Advance in Taiz, Restore Major Points in Dale’a
Yemeni army and the Revolutionary Committees managed on Friday to achieve major victories over the Saudi-US aggression mercenaries in the province of Taiz south-east of the country, inflicting them heavy casualties in material and personnel.

The Yemeni fighters, moreover, restored several major points and posts in which pro-Saudi-US aggression forces were stationed in the District of Damat in Dale'a.

A military source told Sabaa.net news website that the army and the committees advanced in Al-Khalal area east of Saber and forced pro-aggression militias to withdraw from Jabal Al-Shajara [mountain of the tree] post, leaving several of them killed or wounded, and taking some others as hostages.

The source indicated that the Yemeni national troops also foiled an attempt by the attacking forces, who tried to restore Al-Omari camp in Thobab district under heavy aerial cover by the Saudi warplanes, inflicting them several casualties and paralyzing a number of armored vehicles.

Saudi Arabia has been striking Yemen for 225 days now to restore power to fugitive President Abed Rabbu Mansour Hadi. The Saudi-US aggression has so far killed at least 6,579 Yemenis, including hundreds of women and children.

Despite Riyadh’s claims that it is bombing the positions of the Yemeni national military, Saudi warplanes are flattening residential areas and civilian infrastructures.

Houthis using teen soldiers
Dubai: Iran-backed Al Houthi militants and forces loyal to ousted Yemeni president Ali Abdullah Saleh are forcing dozens of teenagers to fight with them in the city of Taiz, according to Al Sharq Al Awsat.

The teenagers were said to be below the age of 15 and were being sent to fight after receiving only five days of basic training. The militants threatened the young boys and their families at gunpoint.

Families who refused to give up their children were expelled from their homes and their properties were seized.

In the province of Ibb, an Al Houthi leader was killed in the town of Dhaleh along with nine other militants after an ambush by pro-government Popular Resistance fighters.

Local sources identified the man as Abu Al Nasr, according to the news website ‘24’. The operation was carried out amid ongoing fierce battles between pro-government fighters and Al Houthi militants in cities across the country.

The sources also say that the militants have planted dozens of landmines in many neighbourhoods in the Dhaleh.

Meanwhile, on Thursday Al Houthis were accused of delaying the departure of a Russian plane from the capital Sana’a that was carrying more than 20 tons of humanitarian aid.

“The militias have prevented the departure [of the Russian aid plane] ... in an attempt to attract international attention,” Saudi Brigadier General Ahmad Al Assiri told Al Arabiya News channel.

107 Houthis killed in battle in Dhale
Yemen’s national resistance fighters killed 107 rebels from the Houthis and their allies in two days of fighting after the coup insurgents attacked Damt town in the Southwestern Dhale governorate, a Yemeni news network reported on Friday.

The insurgents launched two offensives within two days to seize Damt but faced fierce resistance from the national fighters, who also launched a counter-attack in another area, Marib Press said, quoting military sources.

“The Houthi Militias and their allies failed for the second day to enter Damt due to the tough resistance by the national army and fighters,” it said.

“Fierce battles erupted after the Houthis attacked Damt and many military vehicles were destroyed… resistance sources said 106 insurgents were killed in the fighting.”

The report said resistance fighters launched a counter-offensive in some areas and seized positions south of Al Ahram village in Damt.

“Sources in the resistance said the Houthis and their allies were demoralised and some of them fled after a large number of them were killed or wounded,” it added.

Germany downgrades asylum rights for Syrians
This is going to be interesting...
[AlAhram] Germany has scaled back its refugee policy for Syrians, the largest group of asylum seekers, including eliminating their right to have their families join them in the country, a newspaper reported Friday.
As Europe's top economy prepares for the arrival of around one million asylum seekers this year, Germany has now downgraded the standard of legal protection for Syrians, the daily Frankfurter Allgemeine Zeitung (FAZ) reported.

The new measures mean that Syrian refugees will only receive a residence permit for one year and can no longer claim a right of their families to move to Germany.

"The Federal Office for Migration and Refugees has been ordered to only grant secondary protection for refugees from Syria's civil war," the FAZ quoted an interior ministry document as saying.

The ministry was not immediately available for comment.

Germany has to date maintained an open-door policy for Syrians escaping their country's bloodshed, giving them "primary protection" -- the highest status for refugees.

Among other benefits, it includes a three-year residence permit and family reunification.

In the face of infighting in her left-right "grand coalition" government, Chancellor Angela Merkel held crisis talks with party leaders Thursday in which they agreed on a raft of measures to bring more order to the record influx.

Among the steps announced at a joint press conference were plans to speed up repatriations of rejected asylum seekers from new central hubs.

Merkel and her partners did not speak about a change in policy for Syrians in particular.

The FAZ cited official figures showing that Germany had received 55,600 asylum applications from Syrian citizens in August. More than 38,600 were accepted, with only 53 receiving "secondary protection".

This lesser category had until now amounted to a legal grey zone for people whose status as refugees or asylum seekers had not yet been recognised.

Faisal Mohammad’s plans detailed in manifesto
The self-important, seriously disturbed ones always have a manifesto...
A handwritten manifesto carried by a California college student whose stabbing spree Wednesday left four wounded bore names of his targets, a vow “to cut someone’s head off” and as many as five reminders to “praise Allah,” law enforcement authorities told FoxNews.com, while insisting that neither terrorism nor religion appear to be motives in the attack.

In the two-page document found in Faisal Mohammad’s pocket by the county coroner, the 18-year-old freshman wrote a numeric list outlining his plans of who he wanted to kill, and how, including beheading and shooting his victims, Merced County Sheriff Vern Warnke told FoxNews.com

“No. 27 was to ‘make sure people are tied down,’ No. 28 was “sit down and praise Allah,'” Warnke said. “I remember seeing four or five times, scribbled on the side of the two-page manifesto, where he wrote something like ‘praise Allah.’”

The manifesto has not been released, but Warnke expects it to be within the next few days.
And it should be. Let everyone see what this evil fellow was about...
Mohammad’s intended bloodbath began around 8 a.m.,when he burst into his classroom with an 8-inch hunting knife. Police said it would have continued - and possibly claimed lives - if he hadn’t been interrupted by a construction team, and then shot dead by police.

His plan went haywire because people fought back,” Warnke said. “He got so befuddled at the activities that happened; it took the script away from him.”
“There was a gruesome statement he made about wanting to cut someone’s head off and kill two people with one bullet, and he planned to shoot the police,” Warnke said. “He did not have a firearm with him and didn’t seem to have a lot of experience with firearms because he thought he could kill two people with one bullet. He reminded himself in the list to raise the gun slowly. He scripted everything out in chronological order.”

But all law enforcement involved in the investigation, including Warnke, continued to maintain that there is no evidence Mohammed is tied to a terrorist group or was inspired by terrorists.
A lone wolf can still be a terrorist, and he can be inspired by the same things that inspire the terrorists...
“There was nothing to indicate he was doing this because of Allah, or because he was going to be rewarded with 72 virgins, or because of ties to a terror group,” Warnke said. “He appeared to be a devout Muslim, on the demented strong side of the belief.”

The FBI is thoroughly investigating this angle, Warnke said.

“There was nothing on his computer or in his dorm room or in the manifesto to suggest any ties to terrorism or terrorists groups,” Warnke said.

“He was banking on the fear factor. …His plan went haywire because people fought back,” Warnke said. “He got so befuddled at the activities that happened; it took the script away from him.”

Mohammed claimed in his manifesto he was angry over being kicked out of a study group.

“I think the first kid he targeted had something to do with the study group he was in but that is an issue I don’t want to speculate on because the campus police are looking into it,” Warnke said.

Byron Price, who was slashed in the abdomen and was hospitalized, is back at work today. His father, John Price, told FoxNews.com he is proud of his son and hopes more people will be inspired to intervene should they be confronted with situations like this.

While the victims’ names won’t be disclosed, law enforcement is investigating whether he had ties to the two students and aide he attacked.

#4  Why are the police/DoJ doing this? Because that's what bureaucrats do.

I'm currently rereading the entire Dune series by Frank Herbert. Read most of them for the first time when they were published back in the '70s but I had never read the last of his, Chapterhouse (as opposed to his son's).

Reading them straight through it is amazing how much of the Progressive Mindset is revealed. Lots of cliched philosophy, some banal commentary of a psychological nature etc. but there is also more than a smattering of real insight into the corruption of bureaucracy, the evil of the mundane and the lure of power. Power doesn't corrupt so much as it lures the corruptible.

Vile, violent, never happy people congregate at all levels seeking to cast the world in the concrete of their own rotten cores.

#7  Ship, I've read Faulkner and Nabokov, but didn't care for either, as well as many others. Mostly for fiction I read mysteries of the Sayers, Stout, Elkins types or Patrick O'brien. In the mists of a misspent youth I also read Asimov. For non-fiction it's more likely to be physics type books, Planck's lectures at the moment.

Dune is interesting in that it combines so many types of tyranny together. Of course all the Mo stuff is obvious but there is much that contradicts it too, plus there are no really good guys.

Curfew, mass arrests in Kashmir in advance of PM's visit
SRINAGAR - Authorities ordered a curfew in parts of Indian-occupied Kashmir Friday after hundreds of Kashmiri activists were arrested on the eve of Indian Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s visit to the disputed region.

In the main city of Srinagar shops and schools remained shut, university exams were cancelled for the day and public transport was suspended as hundreds of police and paramilitary forces patrolled the streets.

Modi is scheduled to address a public rally in Srinagar on Saturday, where he is expected to announce economic assistance, more than a year after massive flooding inflicted $16 billion worth of damage across the territory.

“Restrictions were imposed to prevent breach of peace before the prime minister’s rally,” a senior police officer told AFP on condition of anonymity.

Nearly 300 activists have been arrested to prevent them from mobilising, another police officer said.

Security has been beefed up ahead of Modi’s visit, with the Muslim-majority region already tense following incidents of religious intolerance and attacks on minorities in many parts of India.

"At this stage we cannot say that all those detained today are members of bully boy groups, but we will certainly take every measure necessary to ensure public safety," Qadir said.

He added that at least three weapons were confiscated in the raids, which lasted several hours.

Four coppers were killed and 15 security forces were maimed in Tuesday's attack. Police said nine jacket wallahs and one ISIS bully boy were also killed in the assault.

Since 2003, Kurdish security forces, known as Asayish, have been patrolling the disputed oil city of Kirkuk which is home to over one million people, with more than half of them Kurds and the other half Turkmen and Sunni Arabs.

Local ISIS collaborators in the nearby villages have been shelling Peshmarga positions who entered the province after the Iraqi army abandoned the area following an ISIS offensive in June last year.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
Four Israelis wounded in three attacks
[Ynet] Israeli shot near Hebron; Two shot near Hebron's Cave of the Patriarchs; youth claims in video that he perpetrated stabbing of Israeli near Sha'ar Binyamin; 72-year-old woman who tried to run soldiers over rubbed out.

Four Israelis were maimed in three separate West Bank terror attacks on Friday, while another attack was averted when the perpetrator was rubbed out.

An Israeli was stabbed near Sha'ar Binyamin, two were shot near Hebron's Cave of the Patriarchs, another was shot near Hebron, and a Paleostinian 72-year-old widow was rubbed out when she tried to run soldiers over with a car.

In the latest attack, an Israeli was shot and seriously maimed at Beit Einun junction north of Hebron on Friday evening. Two Israelis were shot and maimed by gunfire near Hebron's Cave of the Patriarchs less than two hours earlier. The victims included a 16-year-old who was moderately maimed. It was the third security incident of the day. IDF troops entered Paleostinian neighborhoods surrounding the city's Jewish enclave in search of the cell that committed the shooting.

The two teenagers, aged 16 and 18, were at the Cave of the Patriarchs compound on their way to Shabbat prayers at the tomb. They were there because the weekend was part of the special ten days a year in which the entire site is open to Jewish worshipers and only to them. (The site is normally divided into sections for Muslim and Jewish worshipers, and is also open only to Muslim worshipers on ten other days.) At least 4,000 Jews arrived on Friday, more than four times the number of Jews who live in Hebron's Jewish enclave.

According to a preliminarily report, the incident involved sniper fire from a Paleostinian neighborhood overlooking the holy site.

A 40-year-old Israeli was stabbed and seriously maimed earlier in the day, with the attacker fleeing and sending police on the chase. Half an hour earlier, an elderly widow attempted to run soldiers over with a car. Israel said the woman's husband had been declared a terrorist and killed by IDF fire in the first intifada.

All three incidents occurred in the West Bank.

The stabbing attack that maimed the Israeli occurred in the West Bank's Sha'ar Binyamin Industrial Zone near Ramallah.

The suspected attacker in Sha'ar Binyamin expeditiously departed at a goodly pace and security forces began searching for the individual in the area.

Hours later, a Paleostinian uploaded a video to Facebook in which he read out a prepared statement. He proclaimed his full name, Baraa Issa, and ID number and declared responsibility for the attack. The youth claimed he was a member of the al-Aqsa Martyrs' Brigades. A PLO flag served as the backdrop to the youth's statement. Issa claimed he committed the attack in order to protect al-Aqsa Mosque and for the Paleostinian people.

Only half an hour earlier, a Paleostinian woman was shot and killed by security forces after attempting to run over IDF soldiers while driving in her vehicle in Halhul, a town in the Gush Etzion Region of the West Bank.

The perpetrator was said to be 72-year-old Tharwat al-Sha'arawi, a resident of the Hebron area. According to Israel, her husband was a terrorist who died during the first intifada.

Al-Sha'arawi's son rejected the Israeli account of the incident, saying his mother was not a terrorist. However,
alcohol has never solved anybody's problems. But then, neither has milk...
Sherlocks said Al-Sha'arawi had to tried to run a soldier over. They also said a commando knife was found inside the car.

The attacker was evacuated for medical treatment at a hospital near Jerusalem, but was proclaimed deceased upon arrival and no injuries were reported among the Israeli troops.

Al-Sha'arawi's son claimed that his mother was on her way to her sister's home for lunch when she entered to refuel her car at a gas station. He alleged that soldiers shot her despite seeing she was an older woman.

VIDEO: Undercover troops make their move

Click on the headline to see video embedded in the article.
A video that emerged online Friday depicts the moments in which a group of "mistaravim" -- Israeli security forces who go undercover as Paleostinian rioters -- apprehended a suspect for arrest.

The video captured an incident that occurred on Friday at around noon in northern Bethlehem. It opens with the point at which the Israeli troops reveal themselves while dozens of rioters flee the scene for fear of arrest.

The Paleostinian captured by the troops tries to struggle but is overpowered. The troops carry him away for arrest as Border Guard troops arrive to protect the departure.

Paleostinians have long attempted to combat the "mistaravim" phenomenon, without much success, through techniques such as using code words known to demonstrators and arriving with shirts tucked into their pants so a gun cannot be concealed.

About a month ago, video of a similar incident near Beit El made the rounds online, drawing varied reactions.

Friday was a "day of rage" marked by three terror attacks that maimed Israelis as well as a failed attack.

#1  Good. Only problem- The Israelis are too decent and civilized to "Disappear" the Miscreants.

Or better yet, dispose of them "Cross-fire in the Upazilla" style, 0300L, on the spot. which spot? That Spot!
Of course they will also need a shutter gun, Velvet lined case for said shutter gun, and several rounds of bullet for same.

Wonder if Israel is willing to borrow the kit from the RAB? I am sure B-desh is willing to send a technical assistance team if Israel is willing to pony up enough foreign aid/goodies.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
U.S. general sees air strikes against Islamic State picking up
[Rooters] U.S. and coalition forces are likely to increase air strikes against Islamic State targets in Iraq and Syria in coming weeks after a lull in September and October, the head of U.S. Air Forces Central Command said Saturday.

Lieutenant General Charles Brown told reporters at the Dubai International Air Chiefs Conference that the reduction in air strikes was due to weather and to a slowdown in activity on the ground and not due to the start of Russian air strikes in the region. He said both government forces and insurgents were increasing their ground movements, which could create more opportunities for the United States and its allies to carry out more air strikes against Islamic State targets.

"If they're not out and about, it's harder to strike, particularly for an adversary that may wrap themselves in the civilian population," he said.

Brown also rejected criticism that the United States was not using air strikes as much or effectively as possible, saying coalition forces were striving to avoid civilian casualties that could help recruitment for Islamic State. He also noted that the sheer number of air strikes was less of an indicator than the targets hit and the number of weapons used.

60 Minutes special and interview with General Brown.

Rebels Roll Back Syria Army Gains
[AnNahar] Rebels wrested back a flashpoint town in central Syria on Friday, reversing the last of the gains the army had made in a month-old offensive in Hama province, a monitoring group said.

The Salafist tough guys overran Atshan and surrounding areas in the morning and, despite Russian air support, the army was unable to push them back, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

Russian air support had been key to the army's gains in the offensive it launched in Hama province on October 7.

It captured Atshan on October 10, but withdrew from it and nearby towns, including Umm al-Haratayn, on Friday.

"Regime forces lost control of the last remaining towns it had seized since the beginning of its ground operations in the northern parts of Hama province," Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

Sixteen government loyalists and seven rebels were killed in the fighting.

The setback comes a day after the army lost the towns of Morek and Tal Skeik to jihadists and other rebels.

The loss of Morek cost the army the last town under its control along the main highway north from Hama to second city Aleppo.

Morek has changed hands several times in Syria's four-year civil war. Government troops last retook it in October 2014.

The army still controls swathes of territory south of the town.

group fighters were killed in Russian air strikes on Tuesday on the city of Raqa, the jihadists' de facto capital in Syria, the Observatory said, updating an earlier toll.

Five Leb Soldiers Injured in Arsal Blast
[AnNahar] Five soldiers were maimed in a blast that targeted an army tank in Ras al-Sarj in the eastern border town of Arsal, the state-run National News Agency said on Friday. Gunfire was later heard in the area and the army deployed heavily, NNA added.

It added that the troops engaged in heavy festivities with the gunnies in the Khalaf al-Jafar area in Arsal. Afterwards, the army raided the refugee encampments close to the site of the kaboom.

Al-Jadeed TV said that the bomb was planted on the side of the road.

The kaboom came a day after a jacket wallah killed several people there when he entered a meeting of Syrian holy mans and detonated an boom belt.

Arsal lies along Leb's border with Syria and is a Sunni Muslim enclave in mainly Shiite eastern Leb. It hosts many Syrian refugees as well as rebel fighters in the surrounding countryside.

ISIS Bad Guys build fixed fortifications in Al Hasakah
[ARA News] QAMISHLI – The extremist group of Islamic State (ISIS) has planted dozens of mines in the vicinity of al-Hawl town in the eastern countryside of Hasakah, northeast Syria, in a move to prevent the U.S.-backed troops of the Syrian Democratic Forces (SDF) from advancing towards the group’s positions, military sources reported on Friday.

Speaking to ARA News in Hasakah, SDF fighter Farhad Ameen said: “ISIS militants are trying to find ways to prevent our advance towards the strategic town of al-Hawl, through laying dozens of mines across its suburbs.”

The source added that the radical group has been digging trenches around its headquarters in the eastern and southern countryside of Hasakah.

“They also have dug trenches in the villages of Bahrat al-Khatooniya and al-Kahila in the vicinity of al-Hawl,” he said, pointing out “there will be no break for our forces; we will continue progressing in northeastern Syria until liberating the strategic town of al-Hawl and other areas from ISIS terrorists.”

“The engineering teams of the Kurdish forces of the People’s Protection Units (YPG) have dismantled most of the mines in the region,” Ameen told ARA News.

ISIS militants also burn oil substance in al-Hawl suburbs in a bid to mislead the joint forces that coordinate with the U.S.-led coalition during the anti-ISIS operations in the region.

The hardline group keeps digging trenches and plants mines around key areas under its control across Syria and Iraq.

In February, frontline Peshmerga commanders reported that ISIS has been digging a 500-km-long trench from Shingal to Kirkuk to protect its centers against the Peshmerga attacks in northern Iraq.

“ISIS has been trying to avoid our attacks by digging security trenches and planting mines,” a Peshmerga commander told ARA News.

ISIS has recently started digging trenches in the vicinity of Raqqa city in northeastern Syria, in an attempt to defend its de facto capital against Kurdish attacks.

Ubekis detain Al Qaeda recruits bound for Syria
[ARA News] GENEVA – The Uzbek authorities arrested a group of citizens who have been planning to join a jihadi group in Syria, local media reported on Friday.

An official in the Uzbek National Security Service (SNB) told reporters in Uzbekistan’s capital, Tashkent, that the arrested citizens were recruited by radical Islamists to join a jihadi group in Syria.

The SNB security official said in a statement to the state media that the captured jihadi recruits were planning to join the al-Qaedal-linked radical group of Jannat Oshiqlari (Loving Paradise) in Syria.

Jannat Oshiqlari, also known as Tawhid wal-Jihod (TWJ), is an Uzbek-led group based in the northeastern Syrian province of Aleppo.

The group has recently pledged allegiance to al-Qaeda.

The TWJ militants in Uzbekistan have been seeking new recruits to send them to Syria.

The group has launched a propaganda campaign through social media, promoting jihadi activities in Syria.
