Afghanistan
U.S. forces joined in the military action, launching an airstrike in Kunduz on Tuesday
[CNN] Kabul, Afghanistan (CNN)Afghan security forces started retaking parts of Kunduz from the Taliban, officials said, one day after the key city had largely fallen in a major victory for the insurgents.

"A big military operation to clear all Kunduz city is about to start," Interior Ministry spokesman Sediq Sediqqi said Tuesday.

U.S. forces joined in the military action, launching an airstrike in Kunduz on Tuesday, said Brian Tribus, spokesman for U.S. forces in Afghanistan.

The Kunduz prison, a police compound and the neighborhood of Zir Dawra are among the areas Afghan forces have secured, Sediqqi said.

A day earlier, Sediqqi said Kunduz had largely fallen into "the hand of enemies." Kunduz is the largest city to be overrun by the Taliban since 2001.

Sayed Sarwar Hussaini, a spokesman for the Kunduz police chief, said Taliban insurgents seized the main roundabout in the city and made it to the prison, where they freed more than 500 inmates.

The Taliban also claimed to have seized a 200-bed hospital -- posting photos to social media that they claimed proved their control of the facility.

Heavy clashes reported in Ishkamesh district of Takhar province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Heavy festivities have also been reported in northeastern Takhar province of Afghanistan following a major offensive by the Talibs in the neighboring Kunduz province.

The Talibs have reportedly launched the attack on the district's administrative compound and police headquarter earlier this evening.

A local security official confirmed that additional forces have been deployed and shootout continue between the Afghan forces and the Talibs.

The official further added preliminary reports suggest at least fifteen Talibs have been killed and twelve others have been maimed during the shootout.

In the meantime, the Talibs claimed that they have full taken control of the district.

This comes as the northern Kunduz city was seized by the Talibs following a coordinated attack launched earlier this morning.

The security officials said the Afghan forces retreated from the city to prevent civilian casualties but assured that the control of the city will be taken back from the turbans.

Afghan Forces Plan Anti-Daesh Operation in Nangahar: Officials
[Tolo News] As concerns deepen over the increasing number of murderous Moslems associated with Daesh in some regions of Afghanistan, local security officials said Monday that the security forces are planning a massive anti-Daesh campaign in Achin and Haska Mina districts of Nangarhar
The unfortunate Afghan province located adjacent to Mohmand, Kurram, and Khyber Agencies. The capital is Jalalabad. The province was the fief of Younus Khalis after the Soviets departed and one of his sons is the current provincial Taliban commander. Nangarhar is Haqqani country..
As part of his anti-Daesh campaign, Nangarhar police chief Fazel Ahmad Sherzad on Monday called on the people to cooperate with the security forces in their bid to defeat Daesh in the province.

Hundreds of security forces are expected to take part in the operation.

"The operation has been launched against Daesh. The operation carried out in Deh Bala and Kot areas are still ongoing. We inflicted massive casualties to Daesh and are determined to eliminate them," Sherzad said.

Elaborating on the anti-Daesh operation, commanders of Afghan national army in the eastern region vow to continue the operation until Daesh is eradicated from the region.

"We are always at war with foreigners, neighboring countries are always interfering in our country and we have sufficient evidences to prove it," the commander of 301 border police in east, Wali Khan Shinwarai said.

This comes after Daesh launched its first attack against government forces on Sunday. The attack occurred in Achin district of eastern Nangarhar province.

The attack ended with the killing of 85 Daesh terrorists. U.S forces provided air support to the Afghan forces during the battle.

Noor instructs deployment of forces from Balkh to Kunduz province
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Forces belonging to the units of the Afghan National Army, Afghan National Police Special Operations Forces and Public Order Forces in northern Balkh province are on the way to northern Kunduz province following the fall of Kunduz city to Taliban control.

The acting provincial governor of northern Balkh province Ata Mohammad Noor said the forces will arrive in Kunduz province later tonight to suppress the Taliban offensive.

Noor is currently out of the country to attend an international conference but in an online statement Noor said he is continuously in touch with the security officials in Kunduz regarding the coordinated attack by Taliban.

The Talibs took full control of the city later this afternoon following hours of heavy festivities with the Afghan cops.

A local security official speaking on the condition of anonymity confirmed that the Talibs have taken control of the central prison along with the intelligence compound and the UN compound, provincial governor office and provincial police headquarter.

In the meantime, the deputy chief of staff of the Afghan National Army (ANA) Gen. Murad Ali Murad said the Afghan cops retreated from Kunduz city to prevent civilian casualties.

Appearing in a presser earlier tonight, Gen. Murad said the Afghan cops did not fully respond to Taliban attacks as the bandidos turbans have taken positions in residential houses and markets.

Kunduz Falls To The Taliban
[Tolo News] On the eve of the National Unity Government's one year anniversary, the Taliban launched a massive and well executed attack against the strategic northern city of Kunduz and by late afternoon Monday had taken control of the city.

The attack was launched at 3 a.m local time Monday from within Kunduz city. In addition, murderous Moslems closed off the only four access points into the city -- effectively preventing troops from entering and civilians from fleeing.

Officials said that the turbans have also closed the airport road. Some reports state that hundreds of Taliban members split up into groups and carried out the coordinated attack.

Heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual name-calling or slapsy...
has been ongoing throughout the day and so far the Taliban has seized the provincial council building, the offices of the local High Peace Council, the National Directorate of Security
...the Afghan national intel agency...
(NDS) building, UNAMA offices and other key official facilities including private banks.

Officials also reported that the Taliban has over run the local prison and freed all prisoners.

Reports indicate that heavy fighting continues around the police headquarters and the provincial governor's office.

However by late afternoon reinforcements arrived from Kabul
...the capital of Afghanistan. Home to continuous fighting from 1992 to 1996 between the forces of would-be strongman and Pak ISI/Jamaat-e-Islami sock puppet Gulbuddin Hekmayar and the Northern Alliance, a period which won Hek the title Most Evil Man in the World and didn't do much for the reputations of the Northern Alliance guys either....
and are stationed in the Dasht-e-Kandahari area were they are waiting for orders to storm the city.

Africa North
Ain Zara prison under attack
[Libya Herald] There has been another attack on one of the two prisons in Ain Zara last night. Armed festivities, around midnight, were clearly heard by residents near Ruwaimi jail.

It follows an attack 24 hours earlier, allegedly by Misrata's Mahjoub Brigade. In that attack, according to a report from Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
's Rada forces, controlled by Abdul Raoud Kara, two Misratans were allegedly captured as they tried to free a Misratan commander held at the prison. A guard was also said to have been injured in the assault.

Other reports, however, claim that the Misratans have been trying to take over a number of prisons in the capital and that the aim on Saturday and last night was not to free any particular individual. Last week, the Misratans are said to have attacked private jails in Ain Zara as well as in Falah district.

Nonetheless, there was a report last week that a Misratan officer, named as Hussein Misrati and said to be a nephew of the head of the Central Libya Shield
...a conglomerate of pro-Islamist militias deployed across Libya. It reports to the Libyan defense ministry and is organized like a real army unit. Its commander used to head a Benghazi brigade called Free Libya Martyrs...
unit currently based in Tripoli, Colonel Hassan Shaka, had been seized in the city, but the family then denied it.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Alamo, Davy was wondering if Buck was okay. He suspected he wasn't...
following Saturday night's attack on Ruwaimi prison, the Mahjoub brigade are said to have contacted prison authorities asking for details of the incident, saying that individuals had acted without orders and that they should be punished.

Libya-based British women recruiting western Muslim women for IS via social media
[Libya Herald] Libya-based British women are suspected of recruiting Western Moslem women to join IS in Libya through the social media, the Guardian reports today.

''English-speaking female jihadis have been using social media to try to lure western Moslems to join Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in Libya, a new front in the west's ''war on terror'' 400 miles from Europe's shores'', it reported.

The report says that there are at least three women who have been living in Libya since the start of this summer. They are alleged to have reached out to their hundreds of followers to take the journey to Libya as the easiest way of joining the caliphate of IS.

#1  I think they should go. Allah needs them. They SHOULD go. Yeah. Do it.

And bring your little Moslem children for the sake of the children. Bring your whole family. Allah will meet you all in Libya. It'll be fun.

And always remember its HARD to sympathize with the stupid. They seldom live to be old. But then, that is what Islam is all about.

Ansar Al-Sharia denies links to either IS or Libya Dawn
[Libya Herald] Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libya and Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
has angrily denied a claim by IS that the home-grown Libyan terrorist group has sworn allegiance to its leader His Supreme Immensity, Caliph of the Faithful and Galactic Overlord, Abu Bakr al-Baghdadi
...formerly merely the head of ISIL and a veteran of the Bagram jailhouse. Looks like a new messiah to bajillions of Moslems, like just another dead-eyed mass murder to the rest of us...
.

In a rambling statement that appeared on its social media site Ansar blamed members in Sirte for who "numbered no more than the fingers on one hand" for the error.

"If you mean the brothers in Sirte [who allied with IS], you should know that they were not from the Ansar al-Sharia leadership, and they were not even in alliance with Ansar".

Interestingly the statement also went on to deny that Ansar had any kind of relationship with the Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
-based government of "apostates ". Ansar insisted that it had never received assistance from Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
and that there was no alliance between between the two groups.

The statement also sought to clear up Ansar's links with the Benghazi Revolutionaries' Shoura Council with which it was reported in August, there had been a serious split leading to the drowning on a BRSC commander Sulaimon Buazza..

Ansar said of its relations with the "former revolutionaries" of the BRSC that it was in favour of "taking a unifying stance against the enemy of religion [...] and, thank God, they were on the same path with us, killing the enemy in God's name and nothing else".

Death toll from Saudi strike on Yemen wedding rises to 131
[Iran Press TV] The corpse count from a recent Saudi Arclight airstrike against a wedding party in Yemen's southwestern province of Taiz has crossed the one-hundred mark as Riyadh presses ahead with an atrocious military campaign against its troubled southern neighbor.

Local sources, speaking on condition of anonymity
... for fear of being murdered...
, said at least 131 civilians bit the dust and many more sustained injuries as Saudi fighter jets hit the celebration in the Mokha port city, situated 346 kilometers (214 miles) south of the capital, Sana'a, on Monday, the Arabic-language al-Masirah satellite television network reported.

Hospital officials also said 70 women are among the victims of the airborne massacre.

Earlier in the day, Saudi warplanes bombarded the al-Baqa district in Yemen's mountainous northwestern province of Sa'ada, though there were no immediate reports on casualties and the extent of damage caused.

Wide Confrontations after Zionist Troops Stormed Al-Aqsa, Fires at Al-Qibli Door
[ALMANAR.LB] Clashes broke out Monday morning inside the Al-Aqsa Mosque between the Zionist occupation forces who stormed the mosque and the Paleostinian worshipers, specifically near the Al-Qibli mosque.

Al-Aqsa violenceThe confrontations took place after Zionist troops were deployed to the area for the Jewish Sukkot holiday and as settlers continue their acts of violence in the holy site.

Israeli soldiers fired gas canisters and sound bombs heavily at the worshipers stationed in the mosque, resulting in the outbreak of fires on the Al-Qibli mosque doors, which was surrounded with barricades to separate settlers from the Paleostinians there.

They even sprayed pepper gas towards the worshipers inside the mosque leaving several injuries and suffocation cases.

Also on Sunday, festivities erupted across the compound after Israeli police stormed the holy site and fired rubber-coated steel bullets and stun grenades at Paleostinian protesters.

Zionist police statement said young Paleostinians "threw stones and fireworks at police and border police forces," who responded with "riot dispersal means", a moderated term for the use of excessive force and violence against stone-throwers.

Two Maoist militants gunned down in Bukidnon clash
[Manila Bulletin] Two armed militants, believed to be members of the New People's Army, were killed when Philippine security forces clashed with an undetermined number of armed militants late Sunday afternoon in Malaybalay City, Bukidnon province, according to a sketchy report.

Col. Jesse Alvarez said troops were returning to headquarters from a reconnaissance and surveillance operation when they were engaged by armed men in a 15-minute gun battle. After the militants began to sense that they were outgunned and outnumbered, they hastily fled to nearby Cabangan mountain.

The two dead armed men were thought to be members of guerilla-Front Committee 68 of the CPP-NPA North-Central Mindanao Regional Committee.

Meanwhile, another clash erupted on Friday between troops and NPA militants in Davao City. Patroling troops tracked down the location of NPA militants, sparking a 40-minute firefight. Two improvised explosive devices were recovered from the scene.

Abu Sayyaf suspect behind 2011 kidnapping nabbed
[Mindanao Examiner] Philippine authorities are holding an Abu Sayyaf militant involved in the 2011 kidnapping of an American woman and her son.

Regional police spokesman Dahlan Samuddin said Wajir Arijani, also known as Abu Miqtad, is being interrogated following his capture at a hideout in Santa Catalina village in Zamboanga City. Arijani is a member of the Abu Sayyaf faction led by Puruji Indama in the neighboring province of Basilan.

Samuddin said the militant was involved in the kidnappings of Gerfa Yeatts Lunsmann and son Kevin on July 2011 on their beach house in Zamboanga. Putin takes charge, orders Russian troops to Syria after Obama's plan flops
[Wash Times] Vladimir Putin views the Syrian army and its Iranian allies as incapable of defeating the Islamic State in Syria, prompting the Russian president to directly intervene in recent weeks by setting up an air base and sending in tanks, artillery and jet fighters, a report to Congress says.

Mr. Putin's bold yet risky move of putting troops on the ground directly confronting a terrorist group contrasts sharply with the Obama administration's strategy of an air campaign over Syria but little other military action in that country.

The Islamic State controls wide sections of territory in Iraq and in Syria, where it has proclaimed a capital of Raqqa in Syria's east.

It's not a crash-and-burn if Mr. Obama's foreign policy objective has been to concentrate on domestic issues.

#5  Pappy, if Zero's foreign policy objective was to emasculate the USA and turn over leadership to those he trusts more (aka Russia, China, Muslims) can we say that it has crashed and burned?

It seems to me that Zero has accomplished most all of his objective in FP. Now he can concentrate on his goal to turn the US domestically into a third-world Marxist utopia.

#10  I wonder if the FBI will start allowing ISIS recruits to leave the US?

#11  Skid I would not only allow them to leave, but through back channels encourage it. Just as they leave plant a gps chip in their phone during the customs check and then when they are all settled in over there.... hand deliver them a JDAM.

#12  RUSSIA will be in deep trouble wid the Hard Boyz iff Darth Vlad, includ China + SCO + Arab Coalition, can't militarily defeat or destroy the ISIS/ISIL + Aligned wid the infamous Overwhelming Brute Force that Mama Russia is famous for.

BY "RUSSIA" I ALSO MEAN CHINA + INDIA + NON-MUSLIM, ANTI-SUNNI MUSLIM WORLD.

Kids play with ISIS-planted landmine in Kobani, cause explosion
[Rudaw ] A land mine set off on Sunday in Bobani, a village near Syria's Kurdish city of Kobani, caused serious injuries to eight children who were playing in the area, Hawar news agency reported.

The eight children were reportedly playing with the mine before it went kaboom!. Five of them were reported at death's door at the hospital.

The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group launched major offenses twice in Kobani, massacring civilians, including women and kiddies. The snuffies were eventually driven out by the Kurdish People's Protection Units (YPG) fighters with the support of Peshmerga forces and US-led coalition Arclight airstrikes.

The town is a powerful symbol of Kurdish resistance, with some referring to it as the "Kurdish Stalingrad."

ISIS-planted mines continue to threaten residents travelling back home after the city's liberation.

#1  C'mon parents, you should have taught your kids about land mines by now. Unless they're disguised as teddy bears.

Rare US Success in Syria, Iraq: Finding Senior Militants
AP, sorry.
A dedicated manhunt by the CIA, the National Security Agency and the military's Joint Special Operations Command has been methodically finding and killing senior militants in Syria and Iraq, in one of the few clear success stories of the U.S. military campaign in those countries.

The drone strikes ‐ separate from the conventional bombing campaign run by U.S. Central Command ‐ have significantly diminished the threat from the Khorasan Group, an al-Qaida cell in Syria that had planned attacks on American aviation, U.S. officials say. The group's leader, Muhsin al-Fadhli, and its top bomb-maker, David Drugeon, were killed this past summer.

Other targeted strikes have taken out senior Islamic State group figures, including its second in command, known as Hajji Mutazz.

In an effort that ramped up over the last year, intelligence analysts and special operators have harnessed an array of satellites, sensors, drones and other technology to track and kill elusive militants across a vast, rugged area of Syria and Iraq, overcoming the lack of a significant U.S. ground presence and the awareness by U.S. targets that they can be found through their use of electronic devices…

Terror Networks
Gunning for Islamic State's leaders impractical; '€˜deep bench' can replace the dead.
[Wash Times] Targeting the Islamic State's leaders will not defeat the expanding terrorist group because of a "deep bench" of trained operators who can quickly replace the dead, says a new report by a Pentagon-supported research group.

Released Monday, the report comes as the U.S. top brass has declared a "stalemate" in its war against the Islamic State in its Iraq and Syria stronghold, while the 25,000-strong terrorist army of jihadis continues to grow via new foreign recruits and now operates in nearly 20 nations.

"Any coherent plan against the Islamic State must aim to eliminate, not merely degrade, its leadership and potential leadership," according to the report compiled by the RAND Corp., a nonpartisan think tank. "The coalition has successfully targeted numerous senior leaders, but the organization's focus on creating a deep bench of personnel means that attacking individual leaders will not destroy the group. Replacements will rise, and any damaging effect will be temporary."

#1  As I've been saying here for years: IDF eliminated 500% of Hamas leadership over the years. In fact, if anybody looked on Israeli experience with "Palestinians", you could save yourself a lot of trouble.

#2  If you don't have the will to fight to win, you won't win (though 'will' is only a necessary condition, not a sufficient one.) Having superior firepower means nothing without the will to use it. And current 'leadership' is working hard to make sure we don't even have it in the future.
But right now, take out their leaders, the on-deck circle, the dugout, the bullpen and the fans in the stadium. Rinse and repeat. Then we would see how deep the bench is.

#3  Anybody we kill will welcome the chance to be a martyr. Bury them in an unmarked grave in a pigskin and the problem will solve itself.

Also, Obean has proven that all you need to do to win is to declare victory.
Posted by: gorb || 09/29/2015 9:42 Comments || Top||

#4  Yes, there are replacements, but some leaders are worthy of targeted assasination because they are truly difficult to replace. Bin Ladin of AQ and Mughniya of the Hizbollah are examples.

#5  Well we aren't killing deep enough then.

A MOAB over the village of the local leadership would make sure there wasn't anyone left to take over the fucking leadership.

#6  "Americans love a winner and will not tolerate a loser. Americans play to win all the time. I wouldn't give a hoot in hell for a man who lost, and laughed. That's why Americans have never lost, and will never lose a war - because the very thought of losing is hateful, to Americans."

G. S. Patton, Jr., as voiced by G.C. Scott in the movie. Poor ol' Georgie must be getting tired of spinning in his grave.

#7  If it's impractical and futile, then of course we're all over it; 24/7/365. Nothing's too pointless for the US government.
