Four bomb makers killed by own explosives in Khost
[Khaama (Afghanistan)] Four gunnies who were busy making bombs have been killed by their own explosives in Khost province
... across the border from Miranshah, within commuting distance of Haqqani hangouts such as Datta Khel and probably within sight of Mordor. Khost is populated by six different tribes of Pashtuns, the largest probably being the Khostwal, from which it takes its name...
General Faizullah Ghairat, police chief of Khost province said that the incident took place inside a house in Saparki area of Bak District yesterday.

He said originally six men were available at the site of the blast, adding that four of them was struck down in his prime and two others sustained injuries.

The police chief further said that the two maimed are receiving medical care under the watch of security forces.

He added that soon after the incident security forces arrived at that home, ransacked it but did not recover any other terrorist material except the remaining of the blasted explosives.

35 ANSF Soldiers Reportedly Killed in Musa Qala Attack
[Tolo News] At least 35 Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) soldiers were reportedly killed and nearly 60 maimed in a Taliban attack on Musa Qala district of Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province, officials confirmed Thursday.

Helmand provincial council head Mohammad Karim Atal confirmed the incident and said at least 35 security force members were killed and nearly 60 maimed in the attack.

Helmand provincial council said this comes after a week-long clash between the Taliban and troops in the area.

On Wednesday some officials claimed the district had fallen into the hands of the Taliban. However,
a clean conscience makes a soft pillow...
other officials rejected this but did confirm that heavy festivities were ongoing in the area.

But, on Thursday, again conflicting reports emerged when provincial governor front man Omar Zowak said only five troops had died and 10 were maimed in the latest clash.

Officials have however said that in the past week at least 150 Taliban faceless myrmidons have been killed.

Egypt to Try Suspects in Foiled Attack on Temple Tourists
[AnNahar] Egypt has referred 12 men to military trial for alleged involvement in a cell behind a narrowly averted attack on tourists at a pharaonic temple in June, prosecutors said Thursday.

The assailants had been recruited by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group's Egyptian affiliate, along with two "foreigners" who were killed in the incident at the Karnak temple in Luxor, the prosecution said in a statement.

Eight of the suspects had been tossed in the slammer
Into the paddy wagon wit' yez!
and four were still on the run, said a prosecution official. Their nationalities were not immediately clear.

The June 10 attack was foiled by a suspicious taxi driver and police.

One of the assailants went kaboom! and police rubbed out another before they could attack any tourists.

A third, an Egyptian, was mistakenly maimed by a stray shot from another bully boy and arrested, the prosecution said.

The suspects involved in the failed June attack had been recruited by the Ansar Beit al-Maqdis group, the prosecution said.

The Sinai-based group, which has killed hundreds of soldiers and coppers in attacks, pledged loyalty to IS in November.

The group had attacked tourists before, in a suicide kaboom in early 2014 that killed three South Koreans and their Egypt driver at a south Sinai resort town.

Algerian Army Kills 2 Armed Islamists
[AnNahar] The Algerian military has killed two armed Islamists who had been active for more than 20 years, the defense ministry announced Thursday.

The two "dangerous terrorists" were killed in an ambush late Tuesday in the Jijel region, around 300 kilometers (180 miles) east of Algiers, it said on its website.

In the 1990s when Islamist violence rocked the country, Jijel was a stronghold of gangs locked in a battle with authorities that cost a total of 200,000 lives.

The two men killed in the ambush were named as Nefla Nouredine, an emir, or commander, and his deputy Bouhnika Abdelouahab who had joined the insurgency in 1994, according to the ministry.

It says more than 60 Islamists have been killed in festivities so far this year, and around 100 in 2014.

U.N.: Thousands flee renewed C. African Republic violence
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The United Nations
...an idea whose time has gone...
says several thousand people have been forced to flee their homes after days of fighting in the Central African Republic town of Bambari.

U.N. refugee agency representative Kouassi Lazare Etien said in a statement on Thursday that new fighting between rival militias since Aug. 20 has killed at least 10 people and injured others.

Etien says recent fighting began after a 19-year-old Moslem was beheaded by alleged members of anti-Balaka, a Christian militia. He says thousands who had returned to their Bambari homes amid reconciliation efforts and improved security, were now fearful.

He said the agency is also worried about hundreds of Sudanese refugees who are in a camp near Bambari.

Central African Republic has been rocked by deadly violence between Moslems and Christians since 2013.

Drone Kills Five Qaida Suspects in Yemen Stronghold
[AnNahar] An apparent U.S. drone strike killed five al-Qaeda suspects in the Lion of Islam network's southeastern stronghold of Mukalla, a government official said Thursday.

"A drone targeted a house where al-Qaeda snuffies were gathered for a meeting, destroying it and killing all five inside" late on Wednesday, said the local official, who asked to remain anonymous.

The United States is the only country known to operate armed drones over Yemen, and strikes on snuffies have continued during months of fighting between pro-government forces and Iran-backed Iranian catspaws.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula
...the latest incarnation of various Qaeda and Qaeda-allied groups, including the now-defunct Aden-Abyan Islamic Army that boomed the USS Cole in 2000...
(AQAP), viewed by Washington as the network's most dangerous branch, has taken advantage of the chaos to seize Mukalla, capital of the vast desert province of Hadramawt.

Four other suspected al-Qaeda snuffies were killed in a similar raid on Saturday in Mukalla.

The group said in June that its leader in Yemen, Nasir al-Wuhayshi, had been killed in a drone strike.

Officials said this week that the snuffies had deployed in force across Mukalla in anticipation of a possible operation by the Saudi-led military coalition to help government loyalists retake the picturesque provincial capital.

Spain accuses suspect of running Islamic State network in Morocco
[AlAhram] A Moroccan man jugged
Please don't kill me!
in Spain this week is accused of coordinating a network of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
supporters in Moroccan cities who spread the group's message and recruit murderous Moslems to fight in Iraq and Syria, a court document said on Thursday.

Abdeladim Achriaa was detained on Tuesday in a small town near Madrid as part of a joint Moroccan-Spanish police operation against alleged Islamic State sympathisers. Thirteen others were arrested in Morocco.

The arrests came days after a heavily armed 26-year-old Moroccan man who used to live in Spain was accused of attacking passengers on a train in La Belle France. A Spanish Interior Ministry source said there was no link between that case and the latest arrests.

Achriaa, who has a Spanish residence permit, appeared before examining magistrate Juan Pablo Gonzalez at Spain's High Court on Thursday. Citing a high risk of flight, Gonzalez denied bail to Achriaa and ordered him held on terrorism charges pending further investigation.

Achriaa, whose Facebook profiles included one under the name "salami Jihadi", is accused of "coordinating the members of a Syrian-Iraqi affiliate of Islamic State deployed in several cities in Morocco", a court document said.

The group is suspected of recruiting imported muscle and sending them to join Islamic State, which occupies parts of Syria and Iraq. Ultimately, the members of the group intended to emigrate to join Islamic State themselves, the document said.

Achriaa's partner Hafsa Azaoum is the daughter of one of the other suspects arrested this week and five of her brothers have gone to fight for Islamic State in Syria, it said.

The Spanish Interior Ministry said on Tuesday it suspected Achriaa and the other detainees of planning attacks but the court did not repeat this in Thursday's order.

It said however that the network spread propaganda about Islamic State violence "with the goal of creating a climate of psychosis and terror in the population".

Gonzalez voiced concern about the threat posed by Islamic State fighters returning to Spain from Syria and about the group's links to Melilla, a Spanish enclave in North Africa.

He said Achriaa had travelled to Morocco many times, via Melilla, most recently entering Melilla from Morocco on June 17.

French intelligence fears Islamist 'missile strike on airliner' or 9/11-style attack
[The Telegraph] French security forces are bracing for the eventuality of civil unrest and fear there could be a missile strike on a passenger airliner or a September 11-style attack, according to sources close to French intelligence.

"Airlines have been warned of a possible attack on a plane with an anti-tank missile," a source told The Telegraph. "But pilots are unsure how to take evasive action."

After Friday's thwarted attempt to massacre passengers on an Amsterdam-Paris train and a series of terrorist attacks and attempted killings in France this year, President Francois Hollande warned the nation to prepare for more violence, considered inevitable as the Islamist threat grows.

The army has made contingency plans for the "reappropriation of national territory", meaning to win back control of neighbourhoods where the population become hostile to the security forces and where guns are easily obtainable, according to the source.

"There are a lot of alienated and angry fourth-generation immigrant kids in the suburbs and the prospect of radicalisation is increasingly likely," the source said.

"The idea that attacks like the one on the train are carried out by individuals acting on their own is not credible. We're dealing with highly-organised networks of militant Islamists embarked on a campaign of violence and determined to intensify it."
So the terrorist taken down by the Americans and others on the train to Paris last week is talking.

The Grand Turk
At least 6 killed in latest Turkey-PKK clashes
[Rudaw] At least six people, including a seven-year-old child, were killed in separate festivities between Turkish troops and the Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) in the country's southeast, according to media reports and a pro-Kurdish politician.

Media reports said that the child and two other people - a hospital worker and an electricity company employee -- were critically maimed in festivities Thursday in the Cizre district of southeastern Sirnak province. They said all three died in hospital.

Meanwhile,
...back at the Senate, Odius Sepulcher called for war against the Visigoths...
three people were killed and at least seven injured in separate festivities in the Hakkari province district of Yuksekova, which was placed under curfew shortly before midnight Wednesday, according to Abdullah Zaydan, an MP with the pro-Kurdish People's Democratic Party (HDP).

Those festivities, which have not been officially confirmed by Turkish authorities, began at 11:30 p.m. on Wednesday and lasted until the next morning, Zaydan said in media comments.

The state-run Anadolu Agency reported Wednesday that special forces in armored vehicles had been deployed in Hakkari's Semdinli district, about 50 kilometers southeast of Yuksekova.

"Clashes erupted in old Kisla, Orman and Mezarlik neighborhoods of Yuksekova after the curfew declared yesterday at 11:30 p.m.," the Hurriyet Daily quoted Zaydan as saying.

"According to information coming to us, 10 civilians were maimed, among whom three bit the dust. Ambulances trying to take the maimed were denied access to the area. Citizens want to take the maimed to the hospital by their own means, but security forces do not allow that either. We, as deputies, cannot access the area as well. The public was left to their own fate."

The Turkish government reignited a war with the PKK after the rebels grabbed credit for the deaths of two army officers in late July. The fighting has ended a 2013 ceasefire that was meant to resolve a three-decade conflict in which some 40,000 people have been killed.
Al Ahram reported events a bit differently:
Fighting erupted in the Cizre district of Sirnak province when Kurdistan Workers' Party (PKK) rebels attacked a military outpost with rocket launchers, a security source told AFP.

Four Kurds, including two boys aged seven and 10, died of gunshot wounds in hospital, the source said, adding that six others, including three Turkish soldiers, were also maimed in the fighting.

In a separate incident on Thursday, a Turkish soldier was killed and four others maimed when PKK snuffies attacked security forces guarding a highway between the Lice district of Diyarbakir and Bingol province in southeast The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
, the army said in a statement.

Heavy fighting
... as opposed to the more usual name-calling or slapsy...
was also raging between the army and PKK hard boyz in the Yuksekova district of Hakkari province, where authorities imposed a curfew late Wednesday.

India-Pakistan
Soldiers Kill Four Suspected Rebels in Indian Kashmir
[AnNahar] Soldiers killed four suspected rebels and captured another during a day-long shootout in Indian Kashmire near the border dividing the region between India and Pakistain, a defense front man said Thursday.

Soldiers detected the group of snuffies in Uri, 100 kilometers (62 miles) southwest of Indian Kashmire's main city of Srinagar, on Wednesday morning, triggering a firefight that ended on Thursday afternoon.

"One terrorist was killed yesterday in Uri and three today in the contiguous forest area of Rafiabad," Indian defense front man Colonel N N Joshi said.

"One was captured alive during the operation," Joshi told AFP.

It was not immediately clear if the snuffies had crossed over the de facto border called the Line of Control from Pakistain.

Since 1989 several rebel groups have been fighting hundreds of thousands of Indian forces deployed in the region, for independence or a merger of the territory with Pakistain. Tens of thousands, mostly civilians, have been killed in the fighting.

India often accuses Pakistain of pushing armed snuffies into its administered portion of Kashmire, a charge Islamabad denies saying it only provides diplomatic and moral support to the Kashmiri struggle for the right to self determination.
Diplomatic and moral support, and trained jihadis supplied with weapons, actually, but let us not quibble about the details. I wonder which of Pakistan's ISI's pet jihadi groups it will turn out to be this time...
Planned security talks between India and Pakistain at the weekend were canceled at the last minute, after a row between the arch rivals over Islamabad's plan to meet Kashmire separatist leaders in New Delhi and a desire to broaden the scope of the talks.

Bomb defused near police post; two officials hurt in firecracker attack
[DAWN] KARACHI: An improvised bomb (IED), weighing around half a kilogram, was defused near a police post on University Road, while two coppers were hurt in a firecracker attack on their van in Federal B. Industrial Area on Wednesday evening.

The IED was placed some 40 yards from a police post near the old Sabzi Mandi and about 400 yards from the central prison, said Gulshan SP Abid Qaimkhani.

After receiving information about the presence of the bomb, contingents of law enforcers rushed to the spot and called the bomb disposal squad that safely defused the device, according to officials. The IED, concealed in a soft drink can, contained ball bearings, added the officer.

He said it seemed that the motive of the suspects was to cause harassment. Around the same time, officials of three police mobile vans stationed near Masjid Quba in the Sohrab Goth area were conducting random spot checks on vehicles when some motorcyclists hurled a firecracker at them.

The firecracker hit the bonnet of one of the police vans before hitting the road, said SHO Mohammed Naeem Khan.

...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
ordered a police inquiry on Thursday after at least ten people died in the worst violence to hit the Indian prime minister's home state in more than a decade.

Police opened fire on protesters when rioting broke out following a mass rally by members of the Patidar caste to demand preferential treatment over jobs and university places.

One police officer was also killed in the festivities with demonstrators, which appear to have been triggered by the brief detention of protest leader Hardik Patel in the main city of Ahmedabad.

High Court judge J B Pardiwala ordered the Ahmedabad police commissioner to conduct an inquiry into claims officers deliberately damaged cars and other property belonging to members of the Patidar community.

"This is very disturbing. If the police does so, what is the difference between rioters and protectors? What message will go to people?" said Pardiwala.

Schools in Ahmedabad remained closed Thursday and there was a heavy police and military presence, but an AFP correspondent in the city said it was calm and shops and businesses had begun to reopen.

Twin Baghdad bomb attacks kill 3, wound 13
[Rudaw] Three people were killed and at least 13 injured in twin kabooms in Baghdad on Thursday, an Iraqi security source said.

"A bomb went off in the town of Taji in northern Baghdad, killing one and wounding eight others," a security official in the interior ministry told Rudaw.

He said that another bomb in the Huriya neighborhood in the northwestern part of Baghdad killed two people and maimed five others.

No group has immediately grabbed credit for Thursday attacks.

Kirkuk detains 157 ISIS ‘collaborators’
[Rudaw] Police and security forces in Kirkuk have in recent days detained 157 suspected of collaborating with Islamic State

jihadists, officials said Thursday.

General Sarhad Qadir, chief of Kirkuk province suburban police, said the raid was necessary as the volatile city had been "more vulnerable to unlawful activities including terrorism."

"We have had a series of kidnappings, extortions and killings recently which could destabilize the situation in the city," Qadir said, adding that some of those incarcerated

province to Kirkuk as ISIS overran the area last year. Security officials fear ISIS could recruit the young refugees in Kirkuk for suicide missions.

"We already know that ISIS has recruited many of these young people and also sent many infiltrators," Farhad Hama Ali, spokesperson for Kirkuk security forces, told Rudaw.

Ali said many of the detainees have already been charged with murder and abduction.

Kurdish security forces, known as Asayish, are in charge of patrolling the oil-rich city of Kirkuk with a population of over 1 million people.

Kurdish Peshmarga forces entered the city in June last year when the Iraqi Army abandoned the city ahead of ISIS offensive.

Kurdish general in Iraqi Army killed by ISIS in Anbar
[Rudaw] Brigadier General Safin Abdulmajid, the Kurdish commander of 10th Division of Iraqi Army, was killed Thursday in Anbar province in a vehicle-borne suicide kaboom by the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
Al-Iraqia TV reported Thursday that the jihadist attack on occurred in Jarayshi district, 18km north of the ISIS-held city of Ramadi. The AFP news agency reported that the bomber also killed Staff Major General Abdulrahman Abu Raghif, deputy head of the Anbar Operations Command.

The AFP report said Baghdad's Joint Operations Command confirmed the deaths of the two officers and an unspecified number of other "heroic deaders."
An Nahar adds:
IS grabbed credit for the attack in a statement online, but gave a different account of how it unfolded, saying it was carried out by four jacket wallahs and two supporting gunnies who targeted the main command headquarters north of Ramadi.

It said all six of the jihadists were killed.

The death or injury of senior officers during battles against IS is a persistent problem for Iraq.

Two heads of the Anbar Operations Command have been maimed this year, while the commanders of a division and a brigade were killed in Anbar in April. The province's governor was maimed in 2014.

Senior army and police commanders have also been killed in other provinces since IS launched its devastating offensive in June 2014, sweeping security forces aside.

Baghdad's forces have managed to regain significant territory in two provinces north of the capital, but much of western Iraq, including Anbar, remains outside government control.

Iraqi MP: Mosul salaries might be aiding ISIS
[Rudaw] A member of the Iraqi parliament in Baghdad raised concerns Tuesday about monthly payments sent to civil servants in the ISIS-controlled city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, warning the money could end up in the hands of the jihadists.

Manal Wahab, of the Shiite State of the Law coalition, told Rudaw the government had no accurate information about how the monthly payments are being distributed in the city.

"But in case we verify claims that the money is kept by ISIS and not delivered to state employees, then of course we should freeze the payments," Wahab said, adding that the monthly payments could be giving ISIS the economic means to maintain its rule over the city.

Mosul's exiled administration, now following events in the city from safe zones in the Kurdistan region, say the payments are delivered to state employees and no incidents has been reported about "larger irregularities."

"As far as we know, the money ends up directly in the hands of those who should receive it, that is, babus government employees and retired civil servants," said Nouradin Qablan, an exiled member of the Mosul provincial council.

The Iraqi government decided last year not to withhold monthly wages to employees in Mosul despite ISIS control of the city, fearing the cut could increase support for the turbans in the predominantly Sunni area.

48-Hour Truce Declared in Syria's Zabadani, Kefraya, Fuaa
[ALMANAR.LB] A new 48-hour truce between Syrian army and terrorist groups in three towns entered into force at 6:00 a.m. on Thursday after negotiations, sources told Al-Manar TV.

The UK-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said that fighting and rocket fire had stopped in the rebel bastion of Zabadani in rural Damascus and the government-held villages of Fuaa and Kafraya in Idleb.

The new two-day truce follows a similar ceasefire earlier this month for the towns that was intended to lead to a broad agreement to end the fighting in Zabadani and the blockade of Fuaa and Kafraya.

Hezbollah and the Syrian national forces launched an offensive to restore Zabadani city from terrorist groups early last month, and they are imposing a blockade on bully boyz over a 1.5 km2 area.

The town is the last terrorist-held bastion in the area along the border with Leb and has been subjected to massive aerial bombardment since the operation began.

In retaliation, a terrorist alliance including Al-Qaeda affiliate Al-Nusra Front surrounded Fuaa and Kafraya, two villages in Idlib province, northwest of Syria, and began firing rockets into them.

The first ceasefire for the three towns began on August 12 as a 48-hour truce but was extended for another day as negotiators tried but ultimately failed to reach a broad deal.

The earlier talks included discussion of the withdrawal of terrorist operatives from Zabadani.

cyber hacker and recruiter in a drone strike in Syria this week.

Junaid Hussain was a British-born hacker and IS propagandist who reputedly was part of a group called the Cyber Caliphate.

"We have a high degree of confidence" that Hussain was killed in a coalition air strike in Syria this week, a US official told AFP on Thursday.

Michael McCaul, chairman of the House Homeland Security Committee, also announced his death, calling him Islamic State's "top cyber jihadist."

"This is a serious blow to ISIS - and a swift act of justice against a top cyber jihadist and recruiter," McCaul said in a statement.

"The strike sends an unmistakable message to the terror group's ranks, plot against us - even on social media, and we will find you."

Hussain was linked to several cyber attacks on US internet sites and Twitter accounts, including that of the US Central Command.

He was also cited by two gunnies who attacked an exhibit featuring cartoon images of the Prophet Mohammed on May 3 in Garland, Texas.

In Twitter messages just before the attack, which was repelled by police, the assailants called on people to follow Hussain, who reportedly responded on Twitter after the shooting, "Allahu Akbar! 2 of our brothers just opened fire."

British media said Hussain was found responsible in 2012 for hacking former prime minister Tony Blair's accounts and posting his contacts online.
