Little girl with robotic hand throws first pitch at Orioles game
[CNN] Hailey Dawson, 5, has quite an arm -- and attached at the end -- is a "special hand."

She was born with Poland Syndrome, a rare birth defect, causing her right hand to not fully develop. But through some research, professors and a team of whizzes at the University of Nevada Las Vegas, Hailey doesn't have to miss a beat. In fact, her hand is functional enough for the big leagues.

Hailey stepped up to the plate at a Baltimore Orioles baseball game Monday sporting her "Flexy Hand 2," an orange uniform and pig tails. She tossed the ball to her favorite player, "Manny" Machado. The crowd cheered.

The Dawsons are big Orioles fans. Hailey's 10-year-old brother even plays for a little league team in Las Vegas also called the Orioles. With baseball on the brain and a determination in her spirit -- one day Hailey asked her mom, "Wouldn't it be cool if I could throw the ball for the big Orioles?"

The Dawsons thought "why not?" A few calls and emails later, and Hailey was scheduled to throw the first pitch with her biggest fans -- her family -- in the crowd.
I work on the Burg every evening, have done so for the past fourteen years. So do Doc Steve, badanov, trailing wife, besoeker, Pappy, BP, and Ryuge. Many others have done the same and then dropped from the scene for one reason or another and we miss them. Page One on the Burg documents fourteen years of unmitigated Evil (capital E), starting with 9-11-01.

Then I see a story like this and my heart melts.

I think of all the other 5-year-olds who have to live with the cruelty and viciousness on Page One, and the ones who have to live with its fallout. I think of all the innocent little babies who've entered this world, only to lose their lives and all the possibilities for goodness and greatness that could have been theirs.

I do hope to God that little Hailey grows up to lead a secure and productive life, full of love and affection. I won't say she "deserves" it; you "deserve" what you work for, work toward. I will say that I hope that Evil (capital E) avoids her for all her days.

Egypt detains Hamas official at Cairo airport: security sources
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] Egypt detained a senior Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason, official at Cairo International Airport, security sources said on Tuesday, a day after it reopened the Rafah border crossing to allow Paleostinians to travel in and out of the Gazoo Strip.

Hassan Asseify, the deputy religious affairs minister in Hamas-ruled Gazoo, was stopped on his way back from Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
to the Paleostinian enclave after Cairo airport security found "issues in the security approval for his entrance to the country," an airport security source said.

Asseify will remain in detention until issues with his paperwork are resolved, he said.

A second security source said Asseify was detained at dawn on Monday. The Islamist Hamas could not be reached for comment.

Egypt opened the Rafah border crossing on Monday until Aug. 20 to allow Paleostinians to travel in and out of Gazoo, a small impoverished coastal enclave that is under blockade by neighboring Israel.

Cairo has kept the Rafah crossing largely shut since Egypt's Islamist president was toppled by the army in 2013, but has occasionally opened it for short periods at a time.

Hamas has long had ties to the Egyptian Moslem Brüderbund that was ousted from power when former president Mohammed Mursi was tossed in 2013 after mass protests against his rule.

The Egyptian government has accused Hamas of helping Islamist snuffies in Egypt's Sinai desert, which borders on Gazoo, attack its security forces. Hamas denies this.

However a decision by an Egyptian court in June to cancel a previous ruling labeling Hamas a terrorist group raised speculation that relations between Egypt and Hamas may improve.
According to the Egyptian newspaper Al Ahram, the detained gentleman is on an Egyptian watch list. One wonders, therefore, how it is that he was able to leave for Saudi Arabia without having been detained.

Up to 150 Drowned, Shot Fleeing Boko Haram Ambush in NE Nigeria
[ALMANAR.LB] Up to 150 people drowned in a river or were rubbed out fleeing Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
gunnies who raided a remote village in Nigeria's northeastern Yobe state, locals said on Tuesday.

Dozens of gunnies arrived on cycle of violences and a car on Thursday last week and opened fire, scattering terrified residents of Kukuwa-Gari.

"They opened fire instantly, which forced residents to flee. They shot a number of people. Unfortunately many residents who tried to flee plunged into the river which is full from the rain. Many drowned," Modu Balumi, a resident of the village told AFP.

"By our latest toll we have 150 people either (rubbed out) or drowned in the attack. The gunnies deliberately killed a fisherman who tried to save drowning residents of the village."

Balumi said the bodies of many of the drowned were picked out by locals several kilometers away.

News of the attack was slow to emerge because the gunnies have destroyed telecom masts around the village, around 50 kilometers from Yobe State capital Damaturu, since the insurgency began in 2009.

"Boko Haram gunnies attacked our village on Thursday which led to the deaths of around 150 people. Most of the victims died in the river while trying to escape. The gunnies opened fire on the village forcing people to run to safety," Bukar Tijjani, another villager, told AFP.

"Most residents, particularly women and kiddies, ran towards the river in confusion. They were pursued by the gunnies, who kept firing at them. In the frantic effort to escape they jumped into the river, which was full to the brim."

A local government official confirmed the attack but put the corpse count much lower, at around 50.

The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. and Bayda' provinces.

The Yemeni national units thwarted the operation, leaving scores of the enemy elements killed and maimed, after they destroyed two Saudi armored vehicles and seized 6 other Emirati vehicles that were used during the attack on Aden city.

In a similar development, a unit of the Yemeni forces managed to directly hit a Saudi fighter tank deployed in al-Khoba site, where the fighters sneaked into the Saudi military post and targeted a tanks assembly point.

They also managed to destroy a Saudi tank and to set another armored vehicle ablaze.

In Najran border area, Yemeni fighters fired guided missiles on an Abrams tank with 5 Saudi soldiers on board. Their bodies were seen flying through the place.

Moreover, three Saudi tanks were targeted and destroyed on the border area with Yemen

The Yemeni missile unit pounded Saudi military posts in Jizan and Dhahran Assir areas with dozens of rockets.

In the meantime, more security achievements were made in Sanaa when security forces raided the house Gen. Ali al-Ahmar and seized a large quantity of weapons and ammunition.

Saudi-led coalition bombs Yemen 'aid port' Hodeida
Jets from a Saudi-led coalition struck Yemen's Red Sea port of Hodeida early on Tuesday, port officials said, destroying cranes and warehouses at a main import hub for aid supplies to the country's north.

Hodeida, which lies almost due west of the capital Sanaa, is held by the Houthi rebels and allied army units loyal to former president Ali Abdullah Saleh. They retain control of the northern highlands and the Red Sea coastal plain as far south as Ibb, which lies around 200 kilometres (120 miles) southeast of the port.

Aid groups have previously complained that the coalition naval blockade has stopped relief supplies entering Yemen, which is suffering a humanitarian crisis. The coalition has accused the Houthis of commandeering aid shipments for war use.
Both sides are, as usual, correct...
Fighting continued overnight in Yemen's third city, Taiz, Arab television stations reported early on Tuesday, as local groups opposed to the Houthis attempted to consolidate recent advances to take the city.

Taiz is around 50 kilometres south of Ibb.

Chhatra League enforced dead in shootout
[Dhaka Tribune] Arju Mia, the Hazaribagh unit president of pro-government Chhatra League
... the student wing of the Bangla Awami League ...
, was killed in a so-called crossfire with the Rapid Action Battalion personnel early yesterday, hours after being sued as a prime accused for beating a teenager to death in the area.
That was fast.
RAB Assistant Director (legal and media wing) Maj Maksudul Alam said that they had tossed in the slammer
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
Arju on Monday night following a complaint lodged by the victim's sister. The shootout occurred when the RAB team headed towards Baroikhal area to arrest his associates.
Mahmoud the Weasel's grandniece by marriage has the family business in those parts. She took over when her husband, the grandnephew, died suddenly of being seen in the wrong place at the wrong time. She may be a mere woman, but the local RAB have learnt to move quickly when they hear her voice on the 'phone, for she has sources beyond that of her family's prolific menfolk. Who knows whereof women speak, as they gather at the village well to draw water?
"Some miscreants attacked the RAB patrol team to snatch Arju around 3:30am.
In accordance with the standard script, an appropriately 0 dark thirty kind of time...
Arju was hit by bullets as he tried to flee," Maj Maksud claimed
"It was entirely coincidental that he was hit once behind each ear," he added.
adding that doctors at Dhaka Medical College Hospital declared him dead.
That would be the erudite and irrepressible Dr.Quincy, we presume. He always calls it before anyone else would have realized the patient was no longer among the living.
Two pistols and bullets were recovered from the spot, he said.
Marked X to improve accuracy, one assumes.
Morgue sources said that Arju had sustained seven bullet injuries in his head.
Morgue sources said that Arju had sustained seven bullet injuries in his head.

Hazaribagh police registered the case of Raja's sister Reshma Akhter Shabana early yesterday against 14 people with Arju named the prime accused.

The family alleged that Arju had called the boy to his house around 10:30am Sunday, locked him in a room on the ground floor of his three-storey building and beat him severely along with his accomplices. Arju alleged that Raja had stolen laptop and mobile phones from his Gonoktuli Lane house the previous day.

Later, they took the boy to Kamrangirchar, tortured him in an under-construction building and left him almost-dead at his house in the afternoon. Before losing his consciousness, Raja only wanted to drink water, locals said.

The 17-year-old was taken to the DMCH and declared dead around 5pm on Monday.

Raja had been living with his aunt in Kamrangirchar area for the last two years and worked at a steel furniture shop.
"He was a good boy, he was," recalled the aunt, sobbing. "Always sent money home to his Mum, and paid me rent, too. He was saving up to be married, but I haven't yet found where he hid it."
He came to his Hazaribagh house two days back.

The murder took place at a time when the country has been abuzz over the recent brutal killing of several children in Sylhet, Khulna and Narayanganj.

Meanwhile,
...back at the comedy club, Boogie sadly admitted that he was a better peeping Tom than he was a comedian...
a Dhaka court yesterday granted the police three days to interrogate two people who were arrested from Hazaribagh in the case. Another arrestee gave confessional statement in the court.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Shamsul Arefin granted the remand for Moniruzzaman Monir alias Peitya Monir and Sujon Hossain Shamim after Investigation Officer Sub-Inspector Aliv Mahmud produced them before the court.

The SI also pleaded to the court to record the confessional statement of Sagor Ahmed Sana. He was later sent to jail.

On the other hand, Arju's brother Masud Rana yesterday threatened Raja's family members with dire consequences at the DMC morgue, Ratna Akhter, an aunt of Raja, told the Dhaka Tribune.

Masud claimed that his brother could not be killed "centring such a minor issue. Someone must have misled the elite force to achieve their political gain."

Locals alleged that Arju had killed another person of the same area, Jamir, over a land dispute two years ago, and returned to the area recently.

Home Minister Asaduzzaman Khan told news hounds that it was an incident of shootout. The law enforcement agencies could have obtained more information from the accused if the encounter had not taken place.

[DAWN] KARACHI: Five suspected holy warriors were killed in an alleged encounter with law enforcement agencies in the Manghopir area in the early hours of Monday.

Officials said that a joint team of police and Rangers conducted a targeted raid on a hideout of suspected holy warriors in Khairabad.

On seeing the law-enforcers, the suspects opened fire, wounding a policeman and a Rangers man.

The law-enforcers returned fire, killing five suspects, they added.

Policeman, civilian killed in India-held Kashmir shooting
[DAWN] A policeman and a civilian were killed Tuesday when suspected rebels opened fire outside a Moslem shrine in India-held Kashmire, police said.

The bandidos snuffies targeted the police officer guarding the shrine of Tujjar Sharif, 55 kilometres northwest of the main city of Srinagar.

"The policeman unfortunately lost his life, and a civilian who was shot during the attack departed this vale of tears later," deputy inspector general of police for the area, Gharib Das, told AFP.

"It appeared that the policeman on guard was the target, not the shrine." It was not clear if the 70-year-old disabled civilian was shot by the bandidos snuffies or he was hit by a bullet when police returned fire.

The bandidos snuffies fled the area after the attack and the dead police officer's automatic rifle was missing, Das said, adding security forces had launched a hunt for the attackers.

Rebels in recent years have often attacked lone coppers on duty and snatched their service weapons.

Last week a bomb hidden in a steel pot went kaboom! inside the compound of a mosque in the southern Kashmire valley, injuring ten people. No rebel group grabbed credit for the rare kaboom.

IS beheads 82-year-old archaeologist in Palmyra
[FOXNEWS] ISIS militants have beheaded an 82-year-old archaeologist who had been in charge of overseeing the ancient site at Palmyra in Syria, a government official said Tuesday.

Syrian state antiquities chief Maamoun Abdulkarim told Reuters that the family of Khaled Asaad had informed Abdulkarim that Asaad had been beheaded earlier in the day and his body hanged from a column in the town's main square.

Asaad's death was also reported by the Britain-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights. The Observatory, which has a network of activists on the ground in Syria, said dozens of people gathered to witness the killing.

Abdulkarim said that Asaad had been held and interrogated by members of the terror group for over a month before his death. The official said that Asaad's captors had been looking for information about where the town's treasures had been hidden to save them from ISIS, but they had no success getting the information from the scholar.

ISIS Beheads Elderly Archeologist In Palmyra, Syrian Official Says
[World Post] DAMASCUS, Aug 18 (Reuters) - Islamic State (IS) militants beheaded an antiquities scholar in the ancient Syrian city of Palmyra and hung his body on a column in a main square of the historic site, Syria's antiquities chief said on Tuesday.

IS, whose insurgents control swathes of Syria and Iraq, captured Palmyra in central Syria from government forces in May, but are not known to have damaged its monumental Roman-era ruins despite their reputation for destroying artifacts they view as idolatrous under their puritanical interpretation of Islam.

Syrian state antiquities chief Maamoun Abdulkarim said the family of Khaled Asaad had informed him that the 82-year-old scholar who worked for over 50 years as head of antiquities in Palmyra was executed by Islamic State on Tuesday.
Update from the Daily Mail at 11:30 a.m. ET:
Depraved militants fighting for the Islamic State in Syria have brutally murdered an 82-year-old retired archaeologist because he refused to tell them where gold and ancient statues were hidden.

He had to be led out of the room by ValJar and taken home. The briefing was canceled and the Press never said a word. But the Pentagon remembered.

ISIS is Moslem. Very Moslem. The American military LOATH Obama. It is a good thing they are honorable people who respect the Constitution too much to even think about what Obama apologises for....the military does not like ILLUSIONS. #4  Is ISIS Moslem? Your view?

I believe the appropriate term would be 'fundamentalists'.

Islam was spread by the sword. Those who deny the original of its expansion are the same people who try to sell guilt to Americans about their "original sin" aka slavery (ignoring the northern states were already free). If one has to face taint on its origin, then so should the other. However, it all goes down to the Left's hatred of Western Civ and their mantra of "one set of rules for, another set of rules for thee".

Last I heard the Tranzis weren't blowing up prisoners on land mines or burning them in cages.
They used to line them up in front of a ditch and shoot them in the back of the head, but that's been a few decades. I'm not sure about the raping and enslaving, though.

Give the Islamic State 70 years - they might catch up with the Russians, or at least reach the Russian's industrial-scale level of atrocity.

Subject: SFC Terry Lee Gilden, USA Is Being Posthumously Honored By The Department of State

I was recently contacted by a Special Agent with the U.S. Department of State, Bureau of Diplomatic Security who is assisting their Public Affair office. SFC Terry Lee Gilden, USA, has been approved to be included on the Diplomatic Security Memorial Wall, which honors those that died in service to Diplomatic Security. The Diplomatic Security Memorial Wall will be unveiled at the Department of State building on 18 September 2015. After that date you can access the virtual wall on the internet. Terry's widow Mary and their daughter who was one years old when Terry was killed will be invited to attend the ceremony.

For those of you that don't know the details; SFC Terry Lee Gilden was killed on 18 April 1983, at the U.S. Embassy, Beirut, Lebanon during a terrorist truck bombing attack on the embassy. Terry was assigned to A Squadron at the time of his death. Terry was supporting the American Ambassador's protective detail at the time of his death. The bombing was the work of an Iranian Shiite Hezbollah "Party of God" group. The suicide bomber drove a pickup truck containing gas-enhanced explosive into the embassy. The blast killed 17 Americans, which included a Marine Corps guard, three soldiers, seven Central Intelligence Agency personnel, and 46 foreign nationals. Terry was our unit's first loss to the enemy.

I am working with the Department of State to have one of our Army EOD techs added to the Diplomatic Security Memorial Wall sometime in the future. MSG James Earl "Duke" Austin was killed on 18 February 1971, outside of Phnom Penh, Cambodia, supporting the U.S. embassy on a classified mission.

Respectfully,
Mike R. Vining, SGM USA (Retired)
