Afghanistan
Afghan Taliban confirm leader Mullah Omar's death
[Hurriyet Daily News] The Taliban on July 30 confirmed the death of their leader Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
but gave no word about who would take charge of the movement still waging a bloody insurgency in Afghanistan.

The turbans said Omar died of "sickness", citing family members, a day after the Afghan government said the one-eyed warrior-holy man had passed away in Pakistain two years ago.

Omar's death marks a significant blow to the Taliban, which is riven by internal divisions and threatened by the rise of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. group, the Middle East jihadist outfit that is making steady inroads in Afghanistan.

"The leadership of the Islamic Emirate and the family of Mullah Omar... announce that leader Mullah Omar died due to a sickness," a Taliban statement said, using the movement's official name.

Afghan Taliban name a new leader, but peace talks delayed
[REUTERS] The Taliban have chosen late supreme leader Mullah Omar
... a minor Pashtun commander in the war against the Soviets who made good as leader of the Taliban. As ruler of Afghanistan, he took the title Leader of the Faithful. The imposition of Pashtunkhwa on the nation institutionalized ignorance and brutality in a country already notable for its own fair share of ignorance and brutality...
's longtime deputy to replace him, two turban commanders said on Thursday, as Pakistain announced that peace talks between the bandidos Death Eaters and the Afghan government had been postponed.

Pakistain cited reports of Omar's death as the reason for the delay in negotiations, amid fears they could trigger a potentially bloody succession battle and further deepen divisions within the turban movement.

Mullah Akhtar Mohammad Mansour was appointed leader at a meeting of the Taliban's top representatives, many of whom are based in the Pak city of Quetta, according to the sources who were present at the shura, or gathering.

"The shura held outside Quetta unanimously elected Mullah Mansour as the new emir of the Taliban," said one commander at the Wednesday night meeting.

"The shura will release a statement shortly."

Siraj Haqqani, leader of the powerful Haqqani turban faction, will be a deputy to Mansour, both commanders added.

Mansour will be only the second leader the Taliban have had, because Omar, an elusive figure rarely seen in public, founded the ultra-conservative Islamist movement in the 1990s.

LNA Support Forces claim Badi attack on Al-Jmail, Ajilat and Rigdaleen 'imminent'
[Libya Herald] The Libyan National Army's (LNA's) Support Forces in the west of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
have claimed that Misratan commander Salah Badi
...a Misrata militia commander, self-appointed colonel and a member of the Wafa Islamist bloc. He was cashiered from the Libyan army in 1992 because he was nuts...
is gathering fighters near the Mellitah oil and gas complex, near Zuwara, and is preparing to attack Al-Jmail, Ajilat and Rigdaleen.

The three towns back the LNA and the House of Representatives. Zuwara is sympathetic to Libya Dawn
...aka Fajr Libya, the Islamist operation launched to counter that of General Khalifa Haftar (Operation Dignity). It is made up of the Libya Shield militia (Misrata and Moslem Brotherhood), Libya Revolutionaries Operations Room (Moslem Brotherhood), and Tripoli Brigade (close to Abdul Hakim Belhaj, head of Al-Watan party). Financing and moral support come from Turkey and Qatar...
.

In a statement today, Wednesday, the Support Forces said that an imminent attack was expected by the Samoud (Steadfastness) Front.

It was set up last month by Badi after two of of the largest Misratan brigades in the Libya Dawn alliance made peace deals with local forces in the area west of the capital and pulled out.

Twenty armed vehicles bearing Samoud Front logos are said to have arrived outside the Mellitah complex.

The Support Forces are the autonomous local militias, such as from Zintan and the Warshefana, which are supported and directed by the LNA.

The announcement follows protests last night in the area at the death sentences on Saif Al-Islam, Abdullah Senussi and other Qadaffy regime figures by a court in Tripoli.

The road between Al-Jmail and Zuwara was blocked with a sand barrier.

Army struggling in Benghazi fighting
[Libya Herald] The army is making slow progress in its assaults against the remaining Daesh positions in Benghazi. There have been Arclight airstrikes and heavy fighting in Sabri and Suq Al-Hoot today as troops try to winkle out forces of Evil who have clung on in the districts.

In the last 48 hours four soldiers have been killed and at least 28 maimed in the fighting.

According to a well-informed observer on the ground, a significant problem continues to be terrorist snipers. Despite the bitter experience of the recent weeks of fighting, Libyan army formations are still struggling with the business for house-to-house fighting. Deadly booby traps left by the faceless myrmidons after they have apparently withdrawn have had a demoralising effect of soldiers.

Boko Haram 'slits throats of 10 fishermen' near Lake Chad

Islamists slit the throats of 10 fishermen in villages near Baga on the shores of the Lake Chad in northeastern Nigeria, a leading fisherman and a resident said July 30.

"On Monday around 4 pm (1500 GMT), Boko Haram attacked three villages on the shores of Lake Chad where they slaughtered 10 people, all of them fishermen," Abubakar Gamandi, head of the fishermen's union in Borno State, told AFP.

The account was confirmed by a local fisherman, Buhari Dan-Malam, who lives in Doron Baga.

"The Boko Haram gunnies came around 4:00 pm and they attacked three villages (that are five kilometres/three miles from Doron Baga). They slit the throats of 10 people," he said.

The villages attacked on July 27 were Bundaram, where they killed four people, Fishdam, where they killed two people, and Kwatar Mali, where they killed four people," Gamandi said.

"Boko Haram decided not to use guns so as not to attract the attention of soldiers from Baga. This is why they used knives to slaughter their victims," he said.

Yemeni Commander: Over 100 Terrorists Killed in Aden

The Popular Resistance also said it had captured the Labuza army base in Lahj and the headquarters of the 117th armored division in eastern Shabwa province some 230km (145 miles) away.

The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. of Iraq and Syria (ISIS) Lion of Islam group including five Kuwaitis and referred them to judicial authorities for prosecution.

An interior ministry statement carried by the official KUNA state news agency added that the individuals had been active in neighboring Iraq and also in Syria.

The individuals admitted receiving lessons in the "science of a terrorist organization" and military training, the statement said. "They were involved in fighting operations in both Syria and Iraq."

The Gulf state launched a security crackdown on Islamist turbans after a June 26 attack claimed by ISIS, when a Saudi jacket wallah went kaboom! inside a Shi'ite Moslem mosque, killing 26 people.

The government declared itself at war with turbans and said the bombing, Kuwait's worst Lion of Islam attack, was aimed at stoking sectarian strife in the majority Sunni state, where the two sects have traditionally co-existed in peace.

An interior ministry source told Rooters the individuals named in Thursday's statement were not connected to the June 26 attack and it was being treated as a separate case.

Turkey bombs PKK camps with 30 F-16s after 190 militants were killed
[Hurriyet Daily News] A total of 190 gunnies have reportedly been killed in two major Arclight airstrikes by the Turkish military targeting the outlawed Kurdistan Workers Party's (PKK) bases both inside The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and northern Iraq, intelligence sources told daily Hurriyet, before 30 F-16s reportedly bombed PKK camps on July 30.

Turkish Air Forces bombed the determined targets in northern Iraq on July 24, as a result of a compilation of the findings obtained from radio talks and drones. The Arclight airstrikes have reportedly killed 190 PKK gunnies and injured over 300.

Sources also told that a total of 40 fighter jets participated in the northern Iraq part of the operation on July 28, while some 30 jets were assigned for domestic operations. Tanker aircrafts have also accompanied the fighter jets to meet their fuel demand.

In addition, howitzers deployed across the borderline shelled 130 targets, destroying a total 25 anti-aircraft gun positions used by PKK bad boys.

The latest Turkish Arclight airstrikes targeting PKK camps both inside the country, as well as across the Syrian border came amid an epidemic of terrorist attacks on Turkish security personnel across Turkey, specifically in its eastern and southeastern regions, with scores of deaths and injuries over the past two weeks.

One Turkish police, one civilian killed in attack blamed on PKK: Reports

Policeman Mehmet Uyar was sitting in front of a tea house in the Cinar district of the southeastern Diyarbakir region late Wednesday when unknown gunnies opened fire from a car, the Anatolia and Dogan news agencies reported.

Both the policeman and one civilian passer-by named as Osman Caran later died of their wounds in hospital overnight, the reports said. Another civilian was maimed.

Both Anatolia and Dogan said that according to their information the attack was carried out by the Kurdistan Workers Party (PKK), which has waged an insurgency against Turkish forces for over three decades.

The killings are the latest in a spike in unrest as The Sick Man of Europe Turkey carries out a bombing campaign against targets of the Islamic State

Taliban leader Omar's tale reflects clashing agendas
[WAPO] Milt Bearden, a former CIA operative in Pakistan and Afghanistan, said that "it is beyond puzzling" that Omar's death could go unconfirmed for so long, especially given the intelligence and surveillance capabilities of the United States.
Puzzling to some possibly.

Hey Milt, here's a clue. If you report the death of the TB leader, then a replacement TB leader or successor must be searched for and identified. If you ignore the lapse in Special Intelligence reporting on Omar, and do nothing, then the problem appears to simply go away, which is the regime's goal in AFG.

Taking it a step further, if Omar's successor is also basing his opns out of Pakistan, why cause a stink with our Paki pals ?

Pakistan Attack Kills 5 including 2 Soldiers
[ALMANAR.LB] At least two soldiers and three Talibs were killed Thursday in an early morning attack on a security checkpost in restive northwest Pakistain, officials said.

A group of Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) turbans attacked the post on the outskirts of Bannu district, prompting security forces to return fire.

"Around 10 turbans attacked the security forces' check-post outside Bannu suddenly under cover of darkness," a security bigshot in the area told AFP.

"The forces responded affectively and killed three attackers. Two soldiers were also killed during the fight."

A local administration official confirmed the attack and causalities.

Indian army says soldier killed in cross-border firing
[DAWN] A soldier who was injured in an exchange of fire between Pak and Indian troops along the Line of Control on Wednesday evening departed this vale of tears, the Indian military said today.
Another shootout coming next week.
Colonel SD Goswami, a front man for the Indian Army accused Pak troops of opening "unprovoked fire" at Indian positions in the Poonch sector along the LoC, some 200 kilometres southwest of Srinagar.

"Pak troops violated the ceasefire again during which our soldier was injured who died later," Goswami told AFP, adding that the Indian side had returned fire.

Earlier in July, Pak officials blamed Indian Border Security Forces (BSF) for killing four civilians in two separate incidents of cross-border firing in Sialkot's Chaprar sector and Rawalakot's Neza Pir sector.

Palestinian baby killed in West Bank "price tag" attack
A toddler was killed and three other members of his family were severely injured in a suspected "price tag" attack that took place early Friday morning in the village of Duma in the northern area of the West Bank, outside the city of Nablus.

Another girl, who was in their home at the time was lightly injured from smoke inhalation, according to the IDF, which views the incident as a terror attack.

A little before 4 am, two masked men reached two homes in the Palestinian village of Duma, broke windows, and hurled Molotov cocktails inside.

Both homes caught fire. One building was empty at the time, but the second had a family inside, and the flames spread, killing a one-and-a-half year-old baby, Ali Dawasha.

His four-year old brother and both his parents were injured. The baby's mother sustained 70 percent burns.

More on this story from two days ago.
[EN.ZAMANALWSL.NET] An air strike by an Israeli surveillance plane hit a car in Quneitra province in southwestern Syria on Wednesday, killing two members of a militia fighting alongside the Syrian military, Hezbollah's al-Manar TV reported.

The attack struck the car on the outskirts of the village of Hader, a Druze area at the frontier with the Israeli-occupied Golan Heights. The dead were identified as members of the National Defence Forces, a pro-government militia whose members often come from the areas where they fight.

Asked about the reported strike, an Israeli military spokeswoman in Jerusalem declined comment.

A front man for a Syrian rebel group operating in the same area confirmed the attack. "Israeli planes have been flying in the skies of Quneitra and the western Deraa countryside since this morning," said Abu Ghiath al-Shami, front man for the Alwiyat Seif al-Sham group.

The Lebanese Shi'ite group Hezbollah is fighting alongside the Syrian military in the country's civil war. There was no word about the attack on Syrian state media.

Al-Qaida Abducts US-Backed Rebels in Northern Syria
[NYTIMES] The leader of a U.S.-backed rebel group and several of his men have been kidnapped in northern Syria by the al-Qaeda-affiliated Nusra Front, the rebel group and opposition activists said Thursday.
Maybe they need to add a week or two to the Escape & Evasion part.
A statement issued in the name of the group, "Division 30," accused the Nusra Front of abducting Col. Nadim al-Hassan and several other members of the group in the northern Aleppo countryside. It called for their immediate release "to avoid bloodshed between Moslems."

There was no official comment from the Nusra Front, which has in the past moved against rebel groups backed by the United States. Last year, the krazed killer group routed the U.S.-backed Harakat Hazm rebel group and the Syria Revolutionary Front from their main northern strongholds in the Idlib province, dealing a blow to U.S. efforts to arm and train Syrian rebels.

The kidnapping, which occurred Wednesday night, came a few days after the U.S. and The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
announced the outlines of a deal to help rebels push IS back from a strip of territory it controls along the Syrian-Turkish border, replacing it with more moderate rebels backed by Washington and Ankara.

A representative of "Division 30" said reports that the group was Western-backed were likely the reason behind the kidnapping. He declined to say whether his group was among those trained by the U.S., saying only: "The Division supports any side that helps Syria and the Syrians against Daesh." The representative spoke on condition of anonymity for security considerations. Daesh is an Arabic acronym for the Islamic State

#1  Not good actors. Remember this:
: The 4th was initially ordered to deploy in January 2003 before the war began, but did not arrive in Kuwait until late March. The delay was caused by the inability of the United States and Turkey to reach an agreement over using Turkish military bases to gain access to northern Iraq, where the division was originally planned to be located.
This let the Saddam folks and Jihadist melt away with arms to continue the struggle.

Turkey is NOT a friend or ally of the USA no matter what the dip shits in State dream.

Turkey gets some acreage, continued ISJV turnpike charges, okiedokie to kill Kurds?

I said at the beginning of this the Kurds should lay down a wet line and get Kurdistan internationally supported/recognized. Turks trying to close that window, IMHO Iran to start operations and Iraq to secure holdings on agreement nobody makes TV waves doing so.

#8  Turkey is NOT a friend or ally of the USA no matter what the dip shits in State dream.

Actually it was elements at State that scuttled the negotiations by 'leaking' to the media.

#9  ISIS/ISIL = Fascists = Right-wing Nationalists; PKK = Kurds = Marxists-Communists = Left-wing Secularists/Separatists.
