13 killed in Afghanistan's separate bombings
[NEWS.XINHUANET] At least 13 people were killed while 47 others maimed in three separate kabooms in Afghanistan on Tuesday evening, official sources said.

In one attack, seven civilians and one attacker were killed after a suicide boom-mobileing targeted a police vehicle in Lashkar Gah, historic provincial capital of southern Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province.

"The blast occurred in Bolan locality, a suburban in Lashkar Gah. The attack caused seven civilians and the attacker killed and damaged several vehicles," provincial government front man Omar Zwak told Xinhua.

Four police and 23 civilians were maimed in attack that occurred at around 6:00 p.m. local time, the official added.

The second kaboom came 15 minutes later in Pul-e-Khumri, the historic provincial capital of northern Baghlan province after a roadside kaboom exploded when a police vehicle was passing the road, leaving one civilian woman dead on the scene. "About 13 pedestrians and two coppers aboard the vehicle were also maimed,"a provincial medical source Dr. Haleem Ghafari told Xinhua.

In southern Uruzgan province, a police official, two children and a civilian were killed and five passers-by were maimed when a bomb targeted a car in historic provincial capital of Tirin Kot at around 06:30 p.m., according to a provincial security official.

At least 4 killed by car bomb in Afghanistan's Lashkargah
[The News (Pak)] At least four people were killed and 20 maimed Tuesday when a jacket wallah blew up his car outside a cop shoppe in the capital of Afghanistan´s restive Helmand
...an Afghan province populated mostly by Pashtuns, adjacent to Injun country in Pak Balochistan...
province, officials said.

A provincial front man in the southern city of Lashkargah said the attacker detonated his explosives-packed car after trying to enter a cop shoppe.

Spokesman Omar Zhwak told AFP seven people had been killed, although a doctor at a local hospital said they had only received four bodies and 20 maimed.

"The attack killed seven civilians and maimed six, including two police. All the civilians were passers-by," said Zhwak.

"The attacker tried to enter the station, but hit a police vehicle outside the station and detonated."

The bombing comes as Afghanistan has been battling a growing Taliban insurgency since NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A single organization with differing goals, equipment, language, doctrine, and organization....
ended its combat mission in December after 13 years of war.

Bombs Kill Civilian, Officer in Egypt's Sinai
[AnNahar] Two bombings in Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, one of them a suicide kaboom on a police base, killed a civilian and an army officer Tuesday as an Islamist insurgency showed no let-up, officials said.

The rugged peninsula is the base of the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group's Egyptian affiliate, formerly known as Ansar Beit al-Maqdis (Partisans of Jerusalem), which has claimed the majority of attacks on the security forces in the region.

The jacket wallah rammed a vehicle packed with explosives into the police base in North Sinai's lovely provincial capital of El-Arish, killing the civilian, security and health officials said.

Two civilians and 30 police were also maimed in the attack, which came just minutes after a nighttime curfew was lifted at 6:00 am (0400 GMT).

"The bomber drove a water tanker filled with explosives into the rear gate of the base," a security official said. "As the vehicle approached, police fired on it, detonating the explosives inside."

Interior ministry front man Hani Abdel Latif said the corpse count could have been much higher but for the swift reaction of the guards on the gate.

"The security forces dealt with the vehicle near the checkpoint of the base which saved a lot of lives," Abdel Latif told AFP. "The maimed coppers suffered only minor injuries from shattered glass."

In the second attack, an army captain was killed and two other soldiers maimed when a roadside kaboom blew up as they pursued Lions of Islam south of El-Arish.

Tuesday's bombings came a day after three Egyptian soldiers were killed by a roadside kaboom east of the city.

El-Arish has seen repeated deadly attacks on security forces.

The nighttime curfew is among a raft of security measures that have been in force in North Sinai since a late October attack on a military base near the city killed 30 soldiers.

The army has also been clearing a buffer zone along the province's border with the Gazoo Strip to prevent Lions of Islam infiltrating from Paleostinian territory.

The army reports daily festivities with the Lions of Islam in North Sinai.

Late last year, Washington delivered 10 Apache helicopters to Egypt to boost its campaign against the Sinai myrmidons.

Algerian Army Kills Three Islamist Militants
[AnNahar] Soldiers killed three Islamist hard boyz and seized guns and explosives southwest of the Algerian capital on Tuesday, the defense ministry said.

"During anti-terrorist operations, an army unit killed three Death Eaters today after an attempted ambush in the Tagrara area" 150 kilometers (90 miles) from Algiers, it said in a statement.

The ministry said two Kalashnikov assault rifles and a large quantity of ammunition and explosives was also recovered.

Violence involving armed Islamists in Algeria has fallen considerably since the civil war of the 1990s, but groups linked to Al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb still carry out some attacks, mostly on security forces.

The Algerian army says more than 100 armed Islamists were killed in 2014.

Chad and Niger launch offensive against Boko Haram
[TEHRANTIMES] Chad and Niger have launched a joint army operation against Boko Haram

A source from the Niger government said the two countries had launched a "ground and air" operation against Boko Haram in northeastern Nigeria.

"We can confirm that Chadian and Nigerian forces launched an offensive this morning from Niger. The offensive is under way," Colonel Azem Bermandoa, spokesperson for Chad's army, said on Sunday.

The offensive marks Niger's first major push into Nigerian territory to combat Boko Haram. It had until now only defended itself against incursions in border areas.

Chad, backed by its air force, has already sent troops many kilometers inside northeastern Nigeria, winning back areas from the group near the Cameroon

border.

So far more than 30 towns and villages have been retaken from Boko Haram since Chad and Niger joined efforts by Nigerian and Cameroonian troops to fight the group.

The fresh offensive comes after the African Union

The regional force, the idea for which was adopted at an African Union (AU) summit in January, will be based in Chad's capital N'Djamena, the pan-African bloc's Peace and Security Council said.

Yemen Violence Claims Four Lives
[AnNahar] Violence in Yemen claimed four lives Tuesday, various sources said, with one fatal shooting attributed to al-Qaeda.

In al-Qatan, in the terror network's stronghold of Hadramawt province, two al-Qaeda gunnies on a cycle of violence bumped off an officer of the intelligence services, a local official said.

In Huta, capital of Lahij province, gunnies tried to rob a post office, killing two soldiers guarding it and wounding a third, police said.

And unidentified gunnies firing from a car killed a retired colonel, a police official said.

Attacks on members of the security forces are common in the south and southwest of Yemen, where violence has increased since a Shiite militia known as Huthis seized the capital in recent months.
All in all, a fairly quiet day.

Bomb threat forces Hong Kong jet to make emergency landing
[The News (Pak)] A bomb threat to a Hong Kong-bound flight with nearly 300 people on board forced the jet to make an emergency landing in China on Tuesday, Hong Kong Airlines said.

Iraq
Disenchanted by Civilian Life, Veterans Volunteer to Fight ISIS
[NYT] AUSTIN, Tex. -- Last fall, Patrick Maxwell, a 29-year-old Iraq war veteran now selling real estate in this bustling city, saw something in news footage of Islamic fighters in Iraq that he never saw as an infantry Marine there: the enemy.
Lafayette Escadrille Memorial, Villeneuve-l'Étang Imperial Estate, in Marnes-la-Coquette, Hauts-de-Seine, outside of Paris, France, the final work of French architect Alexandre Marcel, 1928
"We patrolled every day, got shot at, mortared, hit by I.E.D.s, one of my friends was killed," said Mr. Maxwell, a former sergeant who deployed in 2006 to Anbar Province. "But I never saw the enemy, never fired a shot."

With the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL, hoisting its black flag above many Iraqi cities that United States troops spent years working to secure, he saw a second chance. He connected with a Kurdish military officer online, packed his body armor, some old uniforms and a faded green ball cap with a Texas flag patch on the front, and flew to Iraq.

Within days, he was on the front lines as a volunteer fighter with Kurdish security forces, known as the pesh merga, in northern Iraq, peering through a rifle scope at ISIS fighters as bullets whizzed past.

Iraqi forces push siege of Tikrit amid fierce resistance from IS
[NEWS.XINHUANET] Iraqi security forces continued their offensive on Tuesday to free the city of Tikrit, but were slowed by fierce festivities with the Islamic State

(IS) Death Eaters and roadside kabooms, a security source said.

In the morning, the Iraqi army and police forces, backed by thousands of allied Shiite and Sunni militias, tried to enter the outer neighborhoods of Tikrit, from the south, west and north, the source told Xinhua on condition of anonymity.

The offensive was supported by dozens of tanks, armored vehicles, heavy artillery shelling and Iraqi aircraft, the source said.

However,
a poor excuse is better than no excuse at all...
hours of heavy festivities with the IS Death Eaters slowed the troops, forcing them to defuse hundreds of landmines, roadside kabooms and booby-trapped buildings planted by the IS group, the source said.

As the battles broke out in the morning, the Lion of Islam Death Eaters blew up a bridge on the Tigris River, which links the city with the adjacent town of al-Alam, the source added.

Al-Alam, just east of Tikrit, was freed from the IS Death Eaters late on Monday, after Iraqi troops recaptured several outside villages from the Lion of Islam myrmidons. Overnight the troops ended the last pockets of resistance inside al-Alam.

For the past few days, the city has been under siege by Iraqi forces which continued their heavy bombardment on IS positions inside the city, the source said.

Some 30,000 Iraqi troops and thousands of allied Shiite and Sunni militias have been involved in a week-long offensive to recapture Tikrit and other key towns and villages in northern part of the province from IS myrmidons.
An Nahar adds:

group blew up the only bridge over the Tigris river in the entire Tikrit area Tuesday as Iraqi forces continued to seal off the city, security sources said.

An army lieutenant colonel said: "Their goal is to slow the advance of Iraqi troops because the bridge is the only way into Tikrit from the east."

The IS is believed to have only a few hundred men inside Tikrit.

Iraqi Forces Seize Large Parts of Tikrit From Islamic State Militants
[NYTIMES] Iraqi security forces and allied Shiite militias seized large parts of Tikrit on Tuesday, amid reports that most of the Islamic State

hard boyz battling to hold the city had begun retreating, security officials said.

The progress came after more than a week of heavy fighting to retake Tikrit, a city in the so-called Sunni Triangle that holds both strategic and emotional importance in the effort to roll back the Islamic State's lightning advance toward Baghdad in June.

The offensive is the largest pro-goverment military operation yet, involving a combined force of more than 30,000. And if it succeeds, it would be a significant step in the march north to djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
, Iraq's second-largest city and an early conquest for the Islamic State, also known as ISIS or ISIL.

Still, previous announcements of victory for the Iraqi government have been reversed before, notably in parts of Anbar Province and at an oil refinery near the city of Baiji. And already, the government offensive has exposed tensions in the American-Iraqi alliance.

So far, the United States-led international coalition has sat out the battle for Tikrit, with American officials saying they were uncomfortable with the prominent role of Shiite militias and Iranian military officials in taking a predominantly Sunni city.

Rafid Jaboori, the front man for Prime Minister Haider al-Abadi, said in a recent interview that despite the lack of direct American involvement in Tikrit, the United States would have "a significant role" in any operation to take Mosul, as would Kurdish pesh merga forces. He noted, too, that the United States and Iran shared an interest in seeing the Islamic State defeated.

murderous Moslems were repelled in an attack on Peshmerga forces at the Khazar frontline, 30 km from Erbil, a military official told Rudaw.

According to Karim, several ISIS armored vehicles were destroyed while one Peshmerga was killed and another maimed.

Peshmerga forces on Monday retook a number of villages and towns near Kirkuk from ISIS in a major offensive that was reportedly set to continue on Tuesday.

group (IS/ISIS) in the western countryside of Sere Kaniye (Ras al-Ain) in Hasakah province, northeast Syria.

Local activists from Sere Kaniye told ARA News that sporadic festivities started between the two parties after IS members launched a surprise attack on the village of Tel Khanzir (21 km west of Sere Kaniye) near the Syrian-Turkish border.

After hours of fighting, the Islamic State announced its control over the village and the withdrawal of YPG fighters to the nearby village of Khirbet al-Banat (2.5 km east of Tel Khanzir).

Speaking to ARA News on the phone, an YPG's media source (who conditioned anonymity) denied IS control of Tel Khanzir, adding that the festivities continued in the vicinity of the village until Tuesday evening and that the YPG is still in control of the area.

Aziz Dawoud, civil rights activist from Sere Kaniye told ARA News that the village of Tel Khanzir has a strategic hill that overlooks two major roads linking Tel Khanzir with the towns of Mabrouka Hanadi and Tel Abyad in Raqqa province.

Dawoud added that in case IS controls the village, the group will be able to cut off the road leading to the eastern side of the city of Tel Abyad. Thus IS will impede the progress of the joint forces (YPG and Peshmerga forces) on the one hand, and tighten their grip on that area's main roads on the other.

Speaking to ARA News on the phone, Abu Malek al-Babi, commander of Liwaa al-Tawheed of the FSA, said that the FSA-linked "sleeper cells" have freed dozens of prisoners from the IS detention centers in the city of al-Bab in Aleppo province.

"Those cells had been waiting for such a proper time to work on freeing our prisoners," the source added, pointing out that following the IS internal conflict (between local and foreign jihadists), the FSA members in the city infiltrated into one of the detentions to help prisoners escape.

Abu Malek also pointed out that the group was holding about 300 fighters from different factions of the FSA, in addition to a number of civilians.

"Our activists were in the IS-held city for months, preparing to carry out this mission. However,
some people are alive only because it's illegal to kill them...
they were not able to free all the prisoners," he told ARA News.

The Islamic State's snuffies have reportedly transferred the remaining detainees in al-Bab to the central prison of Manbij city in Aleppo countryside, following the escape of dozens others on Tuesday.

IS Claims Execution of Arab Israeli Accused of Spying
[AnNahar] The Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
released a video Tuesday purporting to show a young boy executing an Arab Israeli who it claimed infiltrated the group in Syria to spy for Tel Aviv.

In the video, a youth identifying himself as 19-year-old Mohammed Said Ismail Musallam recounts how he was recruited by Israeli intelligence.

Dressed in an orange jumpsuit that is standard in videos of IS executions, he is shown kneeling in front of the boy, who appears to be no more than 12 years old, and a man standing at his side.

The man, speaking in French, issues threats against Jews in La Belle France, before the boy walks around in front of the hostage before shooting him in the forehead with a pistol.

The boy, who shouts "Allahu Akbar" ("God is greatest" in Arabic), then shoots the man four more times as he lies on the ground.

In February, Musallam's father denied in comments to Agence La Belle France-Presse the IS claim that his son was an Israeli agent.

"My son is innocent; IS accused him of working for Mossad because he tried to run away," Said Musallam said, claiming that his son had traveled to Syria to join the jihadists.

"He is absolutely not religious," Musallam said, adding that perhaps his son had been recruited through the Internet.

Dabiq, the IS online English-language magazine, said Mohammed had been tasked by Israel with gathering information on IS bases and weapons and on Paleostinians volunteering to fight for the group in Syria.

A front man for Israel's Shin Bet security service told AFP Mohammed had left home on October 24 "on his own initiative," implying that he had not been sent by Israel.

Official Israeli policy is not to comment on such allegations.

The Shin Bet front man said Mohammed traveled from Israel to The Sick Man of Europe Turkey
...the only place on the face of the earth that misses the Ottoman Empire....
and "from there crossed to Syria and joined IS to fight for the organization."

Said Musallam said his son, an Israeli citizen, abandoned his national service in the fire department to join IS.

He said the last time they spoke by phone Mohammed was in Raqa, the self-proclaimed capital of the jihadist "caliphate" in northern Syria.

He said his son wanted to return home after having completing basic training.

He said he was very worried about his son's fate at the hands of IS, which has brutally executed many prisoners in recent months.

Asked if he could raise a ransom in exchange for his son, the father said he was a mere bus driver with no property or assets to his name.

The family lives in the Jewish settlement neighborhood of Neve Yaakov in Israeli-annexed east Jerusalem.

Said Musallam was born in the occupied West Bank but said his four children have Israeli passports.

According to Dabiq, Mohammed was recruited in Neve Yaakov by a Jewish neighbor working for the security services and was given away by his behavior and his refusal to obey a commander.

US, allies conduct 12 air strikes in Syria, Iraq

fighters in Iraq during a 24-hour period, while US forces led four air strikes in Syria, the US military said on Tuesday.

The Syria strikes, all near Kobani, hit four Islamic State tactical units and destroyed nine fighting positions and a vehicle, according to the military's statement.

In Iraq, four strikes near Kirkuk destroyed fighting positions, buildings, vehicles, a culvert crossing, a heavy machine gun and a potential boom-mobile while also hitting tactical units.

Three strikes near Falluja destroyed vehicles and hit tactical units. A single strike near djinn-infested Mosul

95 prisoners escape Islamic State-run jail in Syria
[Ynet] About two-thirds of escapees from jail in al-Bab on Turkish-Syrian border have been recaptured; IS puts town on high alert, ordering citizens to capture escapees.

About 95 captives, including Kurdish fighters, beat feet from an Islamic State

-run prison in northern Syria but most have been recaptured, a monitoring group said on Tuesday.

The jailbreak took place in the town of al-Bab, 30 km (20 miles) south of the Turkish frontier, the British-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

The escapees included Syrian civilians, about 30 Kurdish fighters, and members of Islamic battalions opposed to the more hardline Islamic State, the Observatory said.

Kurdish fighters backed by US-led air strikes have been trying to drive back Islamic State across northern Syria.

Islamic State has put the town on high alert and has been using loudspeakers to tell citizens to capture the escapees, the Observatory said, citing people on the ground. About two thirds have since been caught.

"They have set up new checkpoints and have been searching houses," the Observatory's head Rami Abdulrahman said. "But it shows some weakness when a big number of prisoners escapes."

Islamic State was still in control of the town, which lies northeast of the city of Aleppo.

Islamic State combatants fought each other over the weekend in al-Bab when several of its members broke out of another jail in the town and tried to head for the Turkish border. Since that breakout, Islamic State had moved people to the new, smaller prison which was the site of the latest escape.

The group which escaped over the weekend included mainly European fighters and was stopped by other Islamic State members in festivities that killed at least nine, the Observatory said.

Advisor To Iranian President Rohani: lots of stuff
Iran Is An Empire, Iraq Is Our Capital; We Will Defend All The Peoples Of The Region; Iranian Islam Is Pure Islam“ Devoid Of Arabism, Racism, Nationalism
Yeah yeah tough guy, whatever...
[MEMRI] On March 8, 2015, Ali Younesi, advisor to Iranian President Hassan Rohani and previously intelligence minister (2000-2005) in the government of president Khatami, spoke at the "Iran, Nationalism, History, and Culture" conference in Iran; his statements were published by the Iranian ISNA news agency the same day.

According to Younesi, Iran is once again an empire, as it was in the past, and its capital, Iraq,
Huh?
is "the center of Iranian heritage, culture, and identity." Delineating the borders of the Persian Empire, or, in his words, "greater Iran," he included countries from China, the Indian subcontinent, the north and south Caucasus, and the Persian Gulf. He added that since the very dawn of its history, Iran had been an empire and a melting pot of different cultures, languages, and peoples.
That's so, though China and India have never lain within its borders, as far as I know. That members of the etno-linguistic group settled elsewhere does not make those elsewheres part of the maximum historic extent of those lands ruled by the Medes & Persians, else almost the entire planet would belong to Israel.
Younesi stressed that despite the current obstacles to the unification of the countries in the region under Iranian leadership, Iran cannot disregard its regional influence if it wishes to preserve its national interests. Iran, he said, has been operating in this region, particularly in Iraq, with the aim of ensuring the security of the peoples there,
How utterly noble and disinterested of them.
whose connection to Iran is obvious because of history and culture. Saudi Arabia has nothing to fear from Iran's actions, he added, because the Saudis themselves are incapable of defending the peoples of the region.
Huh? again. Yes, the Saudis cannot defend beyond their borders, though thus far they've managed to defend the borders themselves. This does not mean they have nothing to fear from Iran, which most memorably tried -- and eventually failed -- to conquer the Kaaba some years back, demonstrating Iranian designs on Arabia.
He also assured the peoples of the region that Iran is operating there
Where? I've lost track.
against Islamic extremism as embodied by ISIS, as well as against the Saudi Wahhabis, Turkey, secularists, Western rule, and Zionism.
Golly. No doubt that will reassure somebody.
Further emphasizing that anything that enters Iran is improved by becoming Iranian, especially Islam itself, he added that Islam in its Iranian-Shi'ite form is the pure Islam,
How can it be pure if it was improved?
since it has shed all traces of Arabism, racism, and any other element that divides the various Islamic groups.

Following are excerpts from Younesi's statements:

Well, yeah, 'cuz Iran is now OWG Co-Superpower Iran hence Globalist Obama = Amerika's new BFF = Co-Superpower Sibling, just like Putinist Russia + Rising China, etc. will be after the Bammer is done helping same expand their MilPol or Geopol "spheres of influence" vee the US.

* WORLD NEWS > [Ekathimerini] WASHINGTON IS RECALIBRATING ITS [Anti-] ISIS STRATEGY - WID DANGEROUS IMPLICATIONS.
