Brtiney Spears Boyfriend Killed by Taliban
John Sundahl, former love interest to Britney Spears, and the man who assisted her with her public battle with alcohol addiction, has been killed in Afghanistan.

Sundahl, 44, was reportedly working as a private contractor to shuttle officials across the war-plagued country by helicopter, when Taliban fighters targeted his flight after it had departed the capital city of Kabul.

Spears first met Sundahl, a former real estate agent, in 2007 at an Alcoholics Anonymous meeting in Los Angeles, CA. The two quickly became close, and the artist has even credited him with helping her overcome her drinking problems.

The couple was reportedly engaged at one point in their relationship, however a representative for Spears denied the rumors at the time.

The Daily Mirror reports that Sundahl once spoke openly about Spears very public battle with addiction:

I told her, “If you fall off the wagon I don’t think you’ll live. I told her, ‘If you don’t want to get sober for yourself, do it for your kids.”

She truly wants to stop what she’s doing, and she has changed her life in another direction. She doesn’t get drunk every night and pass out.

Sundahl’s brother, Karl, spoke about the events from his Los Angeles home, revealing officials informed the family the Taliban was responsible for the man’s death. “It’s heartbreaking,” he said. “John went there to try to repair the country. He was trying to help people, he would often say that the country was in chaos.”

The pilot’s body was returned to the U.S. last week, and a small family service was held at a Buddhist temple in L.A.

A source close to Spears also told the publication that the singer is devastated. “Britney thought he was a lovely man.”

Egypt Jihadists Say Attacked Pipeline to Retaliate against Jordan
[AnNahar] Egyptian jihadists claimed Monday to have bombed a pipeline in the Sinai that carries gas to Jordan, saying it was targeted over Amman's role in the U.S.-led war on the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group.

Ansar Beit al-Maqdis, Egypt's deadliest Lion of Islam group which has pledged allegiance to IS, tweeted unverified pictures of the claimed attack, without saying when it was carried out.

Since the 2011 uprising that toppled president Hosni Mubarak
...The former President-for-Life of Egypt, dumped by popular demand in early 2011...
, there have been 27 confirmed attacks on energy pipelines in the Sinai Peninsula, the most recent of which was on December 23.

Jordan is among a number of Arab states that have joined the U.S.-led campaign of air strikes against IS, which captured swathes of Syria and Iraq where it has declared a caliphate.

IS says it has captured one of the kingdom's pilots after his plane crashed in Syria in December.

Energy-poor Jordan was heavily reliant on gas supplies from Egypt, until the flow was interrupted in the spate of bombings since 2011.

The Amman government has made plans to buy gas from Israel, despite growing opposition at home from critics of Tel Aviv's policies towards the Paleostinians.

45 Churches Torched in Niger Capital in Cartoon Demos
[AnNahar] Forty-five churches were torched over the weekend in Niger's capital during deadly protests over the publication of a Prophet Mohammed cartoon by the French satirical weekly Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
, police said on Monday.

The protests, which left five people dead and 128 people injured in Niamey, also saw a Christian school and orphanage set alight, Adily Toro, a front man for the national police, told a presser.

Similar unrest sparked by the French satirical weekly, which was targeted by a bloody Islamist raid on January 7, saw five people killed in the southern city of Zinder, where 45 were maimed.

In the attack on Charlie Hebdo, gunnies slew 12 people, saying they were avenging previous publications of cartoons depicting the prophet. A week later staff defiantly produced a "survivors' issue" with a new cartoon, winning backing from vocal supporters of freedom of expression, but further provoking Moslems in a number of countries.

"The French flag was burned," Toro said, adding that 189 people, including two minors, were locked away
Book 'im, Mahmoud!
by police. Demonstrators also pillaged and burned numerous premises, including five hotels and 36 bars.

On Sunday, some 300 protestors in Niamey defied a ban on further demonstrations, throwing stones at police who tear-gassed them. The governor of the capital, Hamidou Garba, said 90 people were arrested, while local media said those detained included opposition leaders.

Moslem elder Yaou Sonna on Saturday urged people to stop attacking Christians. "Don't forget that Islam is against violence," he said on state television
... and if you can't believe state television who can you believe?
. "I urge men and women, boys and girls to calm down."

Many Moslems, who form an overwhelming majority of Niger's population, see any depiction of Islam's prophet as offensive.

30 hostages taken by Boko Haram in Cameroon are released
[Ynet] About 30 hostages kidnapped in Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
over the weekend by members of the Nigerian bad boy group Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
have been released, Cameroon's military said Monday.

Military front man Col. Didier Badjeck said some of the more than 60 hostages taken had escaped, while others were freed after a gun fight between Boko Haram and the military. The bully boyz used some of the hostages as human shields, he said, adding that he did not know how many people were killed in the battles.
An Nahar has considerably more detail here.

France says Frenchwoman kidnapped in Central African Republic
[EURONEWS] A French charity worker was kidnapped in Bangui, the capital of Central African Republic, on Monday, the French Foreign Ministry said in a statement.

The 67-year-old woman was working for a charity providing health and education support to Central African villages, the ministry said.

The French ambassador in Bangui is in contact with the archbishop's office in the city, which has started negotiations with the captors, it said.

a big shot of the anti-balaka militia, wanted for crimes including murder, rebellion, rape and looting, the country's senior prosecutor said on Sunday.

It was not clear whether the kidnapping was connected to the arrest.

A front man for the Caritas charity in Gay Paree told Rooters a pickup truck carrying the Frenchwoman, who does not work directly for Caritas but for the Catholic church's local health desk, and two churchmen from the Holy Ghost congregation, was intercepted in Bangui earlier this morning.

Clashes in Yemen's Capital Leave at Least Nine Dead
[WSJ] Deadly violence erupted here on Monday as government forces clashed with Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to Americaâ¢, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
bully boyz who are ramping up demands for a greater say in the crafting of a new constitution.

The fighting left nine people killed and 67 injured, the country's health ministry said. Unknown gunnies fired on a vehicle carrying Yemeni Prime Minister Khaled Bahah, who escaped unhurt, according to Minister of Information Nadia al Sakkaf.

Fighting also broke out around the presidential palace, but President Abed Rabbo Mansour Hadi 's whereabouts were unknown and he made no statement Monday. A cease-fire was arranged by late afternoon.

The Houthis represent Yemen's Zaidi sect--an offshoot of Shiite Islam. They forced the government's resignation in September after occupying San'a. They complained about the slow pace of reforms undertaken by Mr. Hadi, including the drafting of a new constitution.

Bangladesh
Arrested IS suspects in Bangladesh claim training in Pakistan
[DAWN] Bangladeshi police tossed in the clink
Please don't kill me!
four suspected members of Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
in the capital, Dhaka, on Monday, including a regional coordinator for the holy warrior group who told police they had been trained in Pakistain.

Reports of the growing influence of Islamic State, which controls territory in Syria and Iraq, have raised alarm bells across South Asia, though it remains unclear whether holy warriors organising under the Islamic State name in the region are acting on their own or as part of a centralised initiative coming out of the Middle East.

"We arrested them in the city early on Monday, carrying a huge number of leaflets related to militancy for training, a laptop and other materials," Sheikh Nazmul Alam, deputy police commissioner with Dhaka's detective and criminal intelligence division, told news hounds.

The suspected coordinator, whom police identified as Mohammad Sakhawatul Kabir, told police that he and the other three men had received training in Pakistain, Alam said.

The Pak authorities were not immediately available for comment.

Alam said Kabir told police while under interrogation that the cell he ran from Dhaka was planning to collect funds and weapons for attacks on Bangladesh government targets.

"The aim of the attacks was to establish a caliphate state in Bangladesh," Alam said.

Police in Bangladesh, which has been in the throes of a political crisis since controversial elections last January, have arrested eight people for suspected involvement with Islamic State in the past year.

"Of course this is a growing concern, particularly at a time when the country has been experiencing a politically unstable situation," said Sakhawat Hussain, a retired army brigadier and a security analyst in Dhaka.

Bangladesh's leading daily newspaper The Daily Star released a photo of the arrested holy warriors, stating that the group leaders have been put on a five-day remand after being arrested last night.

The report further mentioned that the suspects were identified before the media as Sakhawatul Kabir, regional commander of IS Bangladesh chapter, Nazrul Alam, a financier, Anwar Hossain, a convict of an kabooms case, and Rabiul Islam.

Jamaat man killed in 'crossfire' was wanted in Narail
[Dhaka Tribune] Alleged Jamaat leader Imrul Kayes, killed in a "shootout" with detectives in Dhaka yesterday, came to the capital recently because he was wanted in his home district Narail in connection with blockade-related violence.

Police said he had been living in a mess near the Dakkhin Musuddi Government Primary School in the capital's Wari area and was planning to carry out subversive activities in the city.

He was wanted by Narail police because he was allegedly involved with several incidents of violence after the BNP-Jamaat-led 20-party alliance's non-stop blockade began on January 6.

Imrul's wife Jannatul Ferdous lives at their village home in Narail with their only daughter.

His cousin Jahidur Rahman, a lawyer by profession, yesterday received the dead body from the Dhaka Medical College Morgue where an autopsy was done.

Jahidur claimed that his cousin was a student of the capital's Tejgaon College. "He was a concillor of ward number one of Narail Municipality and a local leader of Jamaat-e-Islami
...The Islamic Society, founded in 1941 in Lahore by Maulana Sayyid Abul Ala Maududi, aka The Great Apostosizer. The Jamaat opposed the independence of Bangladesh but has operated an independent branch there since 1975. It maintains close ties with international Mohammedan groups such as the Moslem Brotherhood. the Taliban, and al-Qaeda. The Jamaat's objectives are the establishment of a pure Islamic state, governed by Sharia law. It is distinguished by its xenophobia, and its opposition to Westernization, capitalism, socialism, secularism, and liberalist social mores...
."

Deputy Commissioner Jahangir Hossain Matubbar from the Detective Branch (DB) of Police said Imrul had several arson and vandalism cases against his name in Narail; DB is now trying to find out more about those cases.

When contacted over phone, Narail sadar cop shoppe OC Sheikh Motiar Rahman told the Dhaka Tribune that Imrul is wanted in a total of eight cases, all filed at different times after December 2013.

The OC also said three of those cases were filed very recently in connection with arson and vandalism after the blockade began; he was sued in a number of cases in 2012 as well.

including its Bangladesh coordinator.

The court also denied the bail petition filed by the defence lawyer.

Dhaka Metropolitan Magistrate Md Mustafizur Rahman passed the order on Monday.

Earlier, Detective Branch (DB) Inspector Md Zafar Ali Biswas produced them before the court seeking 10-day remand plea.

Caribbean-Latin America
Prosecutor in Argentina Bombing Inquiry Is Found Dead
[NY Times] A federal prosecutor who has accused brass hats including the president of protecting Iranian suspects in the 1994 bombing of a Jewish center, one of Argentina
...a country located on the other side of the Deep South. It is covered with Pampers and inhabited by Grouchos, who dance the Tangle. They used to have some islands called the Malvinas located where the Falklands are now. They're not supposed to cry for Evita...
s worst terrorist attacks, has been found dead at his home, the authorities said on Monday.

The prosecutor, Alberto Nisman, had been scheduled to testify on Monday at a congressional inquiry about his accusations.

News of his mysterious death immediately provoked shock and outrage from the political opposition and leaders of Argentinas Jewish community, one of Latin Americas largest, and appeared to put a skulduggerous shadow over his accusations.

Mr. Nisman, who has been investigating the bombing for 10 years, had been expected at the hearing to explain the criminal complaint he filed last week against President Cristina Fernández de Kirchner; her foreign minister, Héctor Timerman; and others.

Mr. Nisman was found on the floor of his bathroom, on Sunday night, according to the Security Ministry. There was also a .22-caliber pistol and one bullet cartridge at the scene.

Mr. Nisman, who was protected by 10 federal coppers, lived in an apartment on the 13th floor of a building in Puerto Madero, an exclusive neighborhood close to downtown Buenos Aires.

On Sunday afternoon, the officers were concerned because they had been unable to contact Mr. Nisman by telephone and his Sunday newspaper still lay outside his apartment. They called his family, but his mother was unable to open the apartment door with a spare key because there was a key in the lock on the other side. A locksmith was called, and Mr. Nismans mother entered the apartment with the officers.

The prosecutor who has been assigned to investigate Mr. Nismans death, Viviana Fein, told news hounds on Monday morning that there were no witnesses and that Mr. Nisman had not left a suicide note. She said she was waiting for evidence like CCTV footage and a list of phone calls from the police, and that Mr. Nisman had not eaten dinner on Sunday night.

Mr. Nisman had been appointed a decade ago by Mrs. Kirchners husband, Néstor Kirchner, who was the president at the time, to investigate the bombing of the Argentine-Israeli Mutual Association in Buenos Aires. The bombing killed 85 people and maimed more than 200.

Accusations of Irans complicity, which the Iranian government has persistently denied, put a deep chill on relations between the two countries until 2013, when they reached an agreement to investigate the attack. It remains unsolved.

#2  Go figure

No gunpowder traces found on Nisman’s hands, tests ordered on alleged weapon

The forensic analysis on AMIA special prosecutor Alberto Nisman’s body confirmed that there were no traces of gunpowder on his hands. However, experts explained that it does not contradict suicide hypothesis.

Prosecutor Viviana Fein, who leads the investigation of Nisman’s death, said this was not an “unexpected result” and that it “does not rule out the possibility that Nisman had fired the gun himself.”

Fein had already confirmed yesterday that there was no sign of a third-party being involved in the death, but she had refused to rule out the possibility that the deceased was forced to take his own life by some as yet unknown factor.

China-Japan-Koreas
Report: US penetrated North Korean networks in 2010
[Ynet] The US National Security Agency began tapping into North Korean computer networks in 2010, an effort that ultimately helped provide evidence to persuade the B.O. regime that Pyongyang was behind the cyber attack on Sony Pictures, the New York Times
...which still proudly displays Walter Duranty's Pulitzer prize...
reported on Sunday.
There's that frisson down their collective spine as they reveal another secret that threatens America's safety and security.
Citing former US and foreign officials and a National Security Agency document, the Times said the spy agency was able to penetrate North Korean systems with the help of South Korea and other US allies after first tapping into Chinese networks that connect North Korea to the rest of the world.

The newspaper quoted officials as saying the program grew into an effort to place malware that could track many networks and computers used by hackers in North Korea. Such activity ultimately proved crucial in persuading President Barack Obama
I inhaled. That was the point...
to implicate the North Koreans in the Sony attack, the officials told the paper.

Europe
Anti-Muslim Incidents Soar in France in Wake of Paris Attacks
[AnNahar] The number of anti-Moslem incidents in La Belle France has soared since the Islamist attacks in Gay Paree two weeks ago, an organization that tracks Islamophobia
...the irrational fear that Moslems will act the way they usually do...
said Monday.

The National Observatory Against Islamophobia said 116 anti-Moslem incidents had been reported to authorities since the January 7-9 shooting spree by three French jihadists that killed 17.

The two-week tally was more than double the number of incidents recorded for the full month of January 2014, the observatory said, reporting 28 attacks on places of worship and 88 threats.

The observatory's president, Abdallah Zekri condemned the "acts of hatred towards French people of the Moslem faith, the immense majority of whom respect the values of the Republic and secularism."

"This situation is unacceptable and we're asking the authorities to go beyond the reassuring speeches and act to put an end to this scourge," he said.

Islam is La Belle France's second-biggest religion with an estimated 3,5-5 million followers.

Several mosques have been attacked since the Gay Paree killings, which began with a massacre at Charlie Hebdo
...A lefty French satirical magazine, home of what may well be the majority if the active testicles left in Europe...
satirical weekly and ended with a bloody hostage taking in a Jewish supermarket.

In several towns shots have been fired at mosques and racist slogans daubed on their walls. In Corsica, a pig's head was hung on the door of a prayer hall.

President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
and his government have repeatedly warned against tarring all Moslems with the bad boy brush.

In a speech last week Hollande reiterated that "Moslems are the main victims of terrorism."

A portion of the 10,000 troops mobilized last week to boost security have been assigned to protecting mosques.

Some prominent political figures have, however, defied calls for unity, with remarks seen as fanning anti-Moslem sentiment.

A senior member of the far-right National Front (FN) representing the party in the European Parliament, Aymeric Chauprade, declared in a video last week that La Belle France was "at war with some Moslems".

"We're told a majority of Moslems are peaceful. But a majority of Germans were also (peaceful) before 1933 and national socialism," he said.

#1  President Francois Hollande and his government have repeatedly warned against tarring all Moslems with the bad boy brush.

The OIC has openly and publicly called for Sharia to be imposed on non-Muslims in the West. The OIC has done so for years.

Now an islamofascistic death squad has fulfilled the OIC's demand and we're supposed to absolve mainstream Islam and Muslims of any responsibility?

Nuts!

Or do they include yelling at Muslims and calling the names?

And how many similar or worse incidents were perpetrated on Jews? Are Muslims afraid to look Muslim on the street? Jews have been warned to avoid wearing a kippeh and other signs that they are Jewish.

Pakistani on suspect passport sparks easyJet alarm in Rome
[DAWN] Italian authorities said Monday they were checking the background of a Pak man removed from an easyJet flight to Britannia minutes before take-off after he was found to be travelling on a suspect passport.

"Checks are under way, there is no need to start speculating in a way that could cause alarm," Interior Minister Angelino Alfano said on Canale5 television.

"It is too early to say if it was a case of a violation of immigration and citizenship rules or anything more than that. We will know more in the coming hours."

Flight EZY4917 from Rome's Fiumicino airport to London-Luton was within minutes of its scheduled 12:35 pm take-off on Sunday when Italian border agents boarded the plane and removed the man, easyJet confirmed.

A front man told AFP the man had been removed after the UK border agency alerted the Italians to discrepancies between the passport details the 33-year-old passenger had entered in his online booking and information that they held in their database.

"We don't know if it was definitely a fake passport. That is under police investigation," the front man said.

After all bags were removed from the hold and rechecked, the plane took off later in the afternoon. EasyJet said five passengers unconnected with the suspect opted not to fly in the immediate aftermath of the incident and were switched to later flights.

The scare occurred on the same day that Alfano announced that a Pak was among nine foreigners expelled from Italia since December because of suspicions they could be involved in jihadist attacks.

The other eight expelled were five Tunisians, an Egyptian, a Moroccan and a Turk.

U.S. A-10 reportedly shot at by ISIS militants with Strela MANPADS in Iraq
According to a report by Iraqi News, American A-10 were shot at with four Rooski Strela missiles during the recent air strikes carried out by the Warthogs (as the Thunderbolts are referred to by the pilot community) on ISIS positions near Mosul, in Iraq.

Based on reports by unnamed sources who witnessed the attack, the A-10s killed and wounded several terrorists but were also targeted by the ISIS militants who allegedly attempted to shoot down the U.S. planes fling at low altitude using 9K32 Strela-2 (NATO reporting name SA-7 Grail) man-portable, shoulder-fired, low-altitude, IR (infra-red) guided, surface-to-air missile systems.

Even though the Warthogs were not hit by the surface-to-air missiles, the episode seems to confirm that, flying at medium and low altitude and loitering over the battlefield, the A-10s deployed to Kuwait face the threat of MANPADS known to be in possession of Islamic State forces.

Still, the “Hog” is a tough plane, that has already shown its special ability to bring the pilot back to the homebase in spite of heavy damages by ground fire.

#2  The engines sit on top of the A-10 fuselage, with the tail wing designed to sit just behind and under the engines to shield the engines exhaust from ground based heat seeking missiles. Plus the A-10 uses flares, and if one engine is out, the other will take the plane back home. If the plane is hit, the turbo fins inside the engines are designed to spit out shrapnel almost as soon as it enters the engine. The list goes on.

The government put no restrictions on the A-10 designers leaving the design open to the engineers to set the specs for a close air support aircraft.

The engineers did an outstanding job of trying to make the wart hog immortal on the battlefield.

F-35 might have to do that in order to recover its altitude after the run. Don't know the operational stall speed, but I'm sure it's above 200-knots.

A Hog goes in WAY lower and slower (for 'effect' of course).

jihadist group in Syria's Kobane have captured a strategic hilltop, giving them line of fire over the town, a monitor said Monday.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said the Kurdish People's People Units (YPG) had seized the Mishtenur hilltop after fierce festivities overnight.

"The military operation led to the deaths of at least 11 Islamic State fighters, and the seizure of large quantities of weapons and ammunition," the Observatory said.

Observatory director Rami Abdel Rahman said the advance was a key strategic victory for the YPG, putting IS resupply lines to Aleppo in the west and Raqa in the east within their line of fire.

IS has been battling to capture Kobane, on the Syrian-Turkish border, since mid-September, and at one point seemed poised to overrun the Kurdish town.

But Kurdish fighters backed by massive air raids by the U.S.-led coalition against IS have gradually pushed back the jihadists, who now hold around 15 percent of the town.

Protests continue throughout the Moslem world, but were much smaller in Tehran, where some 500 people answered a call to protest near the French embassy as news broke that Charlie's print run was being extended to seven million copies internationally.

Several hundred people also gathered in Jalalabad in Afghanistan, which has seen three straight days of protests.

"We want an apology from La Belle France's government to the Moslem community," demanded one man, who also called for the closure of French embassies throughout the Moslem world if no apology was forthcoming.
