9 Dead, Scores Hurt in Twin Bomb Attack in Somali Town
[AnNahar] At least nine people were killed Friday in a twin kaboom in the central Somali town of Baidoa, police said, the latest in a string of attacks.

Two of those killed were journalists and three others were among the scores maimed, colleagues said.

"A jacket wallah let 'er rip amongst a crowd of people drinking at a busy teashop in the town. We have so far counted at least nine civilians, among them journalists, who died in the attack," police officer Abdirasak Ali told Agence La Belle France-Presse.

Minutes later a second blast went kaboom! as rescuers went to help those who had been maimed.

"A second kaboom, a car loaded with explosives parked nearby, went off as rescuers rushed to the scene, and that caused most of the casualties," Ali added.

The National Union of Somali Journalists (NUSOJ) said in a statement that it was "saddened at the murder of two journalists and three others maimed in ... the latest and biggest journalists? fatality in a single day in 2014."

The attack comes a day after a new federal regional leader took power in Baidoa, some 250 kilometers (155 miles) northwest of the capital Mogadishu.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but Somalia's al-Qaeda-affiliated Shabaab rebels have previously carried out repeated attacks in the town as part of their fight to overthrow the country's internationally-backed government.

Witnesses described a scene of carnage, with bodies of maimed victims scattered around the blast site.

"I saw the dead body of seven civilians including a journalist, two other journalists were also maimed," said local resident Abdirahman Hussein.

"Many people were maimed so I fear that the number who are killed could increase."

Recent Shabaab attacks in Somalia have targeted key government and security sites in an apparent bid to discredit claims by the authorities and African Union
...a union consisting of 53 African states, most run by dictators of one flavor or another. The only all-African state not in the AU is Morocco. Established in 2002, the AU is the successor to the Organisation of African Unity (OAU), which was even less successful...
troops that they are winning the war.

On Thursday they maimed an MP and killed a former politician in Mogadishu, while on Wednesday a Shabaab suicide bomber killed four when they rammed an exploding car into a United Nations

convoy.

The Shabaab have also stepped up operations in neighboring Kenya, and on Tuesday massacred 36 non-Moslem quarry workers in a Kenyan border town.

U.N.: Clash in C.Africa Kills Four, Leaves Several Wounded
[AnNahar] Communal festivities have left four people dead and more than a dozen maimed at Bambari in the unstable Central African Republic, the U.N. mission MINUSCA has announced.

"The town of Bambari has once again been the scene of serious and blind violence causing numerous casualties, including four dead, more than a dozen injured and houses burned down," MINUSCA said in a statement released on Thursday night.

The mission, which is part of international efforts to restore peace and help transitional authorities after a 2013 coup led to civil war, said that it was "particularly concerned by the inter-communal nature of this violence".

The unrest in the town in the center of the deeply poor, landlocked nation erupted after a cycle of violence taxi driver was killed and his vehicle stolen, according to the paramilitary police.

When the man's body was found by locals and recognized as that of a Peul (Fulani), a people who mainly profess Islam, Moslem residents launched reprisals against Christians.

The mainly Moslem rebel Seleka
...a 'mainly' Moslem rebel force in the Central African Republic that overthrew the govt, imposed a regime of rapine and looting on the country's non-Moslem population, and was then tossed by France. They still exist, getting funding and weapons from somewhere or other, licking their wounds, complaining about the oppression of Moslems, and occasionally raping and looting someone...
coalition that took power in a March 2013 coup has set up its headquarters in Bambari since being routed from the capital Bangui last January with the aid of French military intervention.

Since June, several dozen people have been killed and many maimed in festivities in the flashpoint trading town, which has a population of more than 41,000, according to a decade-old census.

Confronted with massacres, looting and burning by Seleka forces, majority Christian communities set up vigilante self-defense groups that chased many Moslems out of their homes and became as notorious for atrocities as the Seleka.

In a nation where the role of the state has been undermined by decades of unrest, the latest strife had by last August displaced 500,000 people in a population of some 4.8 million, according to the U.N. High Commissioner for Refugees.

Armed groups take advantage of the lack of law and order to rob humanitarian aid organizations in many regions, as well as terrorizing local people.

Three foreign forces have been deployed in a bid to help bring stability: the French military Operation Sangaris, which on Friday marked its first anniversary in the CAR, a European Union
...the successor to the Holy Roman Empire, only without the Hapsburgs and the nifty uniforms and the dancing...
mission named Eufor-RCA, and the U.N.'s MINUSCA.

Arabia
American journalist reported killed during Yemen rescue attempt
An American journalist held for more than a year by Al Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula was killed during a rescue attempt by United States commandos late Friday, according to a senior U.S. official.

The official said that the journalist, Luke Somers, was apparently shot by his captors as the raid occurred and was badly injured when the commandos reached him. By the time Somers was flown to a U.S. naval ship in the region, he had died from his injuries.

Somers, a freelance journalist, was seized in Sana in September 2013. Last month, U.S. commandos and Yemeni counterterrorism soldiers made an unsuccessful attempt to rescue him in a remote province.

On Wednesday, the Yemeni extremist group that was holding Somers threatened to kill him by the end of the week.

#1  They were going to kill him anyway. It was worth the risk to try and save him. Unfortunately there was not a better ending to this story.

#6  The best stat you can give in any hostage rescue is 50% survival rate. Usually the survival rate is less. But to die in a rescue attempt is far better than having your head sawed off on video. Its sad it ended this way, but I'm sure the entire camp was met with an arc lite after the SF guys departed.

#8  According to CNN it was Navy SEALS, texhooey. Also killed by the jihadis was a hostage from South Africa, Pierre Korkie. All the SEALS got out safe.

#10  Bigger Picture

Having failed in last months raid, the element of surprise is off. That puts the failure rate at way above 50%.

What the people of America would want to know, was last month's raid failure of Luke Somers due to Obama foot dragging again? Because the Al Qaeda elements and hostages vacated that location before that raid took place. In the past, Obama's Junior Varsity hesitations was THE failure of hostage rescues which meant no one was around when the Seals rolled in, and the hostages were then scheduled for execution. And in most all cases were beheaded.

The notorious "Obama Hesitation" has been a sentence of death to Americans in every foreign crisis involving Al Qaeda or ISIS or Benghazi. Americans should know if "he hesistated again".

#12  Claim: South African Hostage killed one day before his scheduled release.

According to a South African news release, a South African aid organization who had successfully negotiated the release of South African hostage Pierre Korkie's wife Yolande Korkie earlier this year held by Al Qaeda, Pierre Korkie was scheduled to be released the day following the raid.

(If that was also the day the American Somers was to be beheaded, then the raid would be considered necessary from the US perspective.)

#13  The Abbottabad, Pakistan raid on the UBL compound [just prior to the last presidential election] went off nearly without a hitch. Everything since then has been a cock-up. Prisoners moved, lack of tactical surprise, etc. Strange indeed.

#14  "That puts the failure rate at way above 50%." It's not cumulative. Each raid has risk to its own. With that and to Besoeker's point I wonder if the enemy's training is getting better, if our templates are getting old, or if our guys are just getting rushed into a op making it come off poorly.

#15  Yes, enemy training can't help but improve as we telegraph our every move and TTP. My feeling on the UBL raid was, and will likely always be, that it was orchestrated theater fully coordinated with the government of Pakistan.

Britain
Three Britons Jailed for Syria-Related Terror Offenses
[AnNahar] Three British men were sentenced to prison for terror offenses on Friday, as security forces crack down on what they say is a mounting threat from jihadists radicalized by the Syria conflict.

Childhood friends Mohammed "Nigel" Ahmed and Yusuf "Percy" Sarwar, both aged 22 from Birmingham in central England, were tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
for 12 years and eight months each.

Mashudur "Alistair" Choudhury, a father of two in his early 30s from Portsmouth on the southern English coast, was sentenced to four years in a separate case.

British security forces have stepped up surveillance and arrests of terror suspects in recent months, and politicians are set to toughen anti-terror laws in a bid to stem the flow of Britons joining Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
(IS) jihadists fighting in Syria and Iraq.

An estimated 500 Britons have traveled abroad to become jihadists and officials fear the return of battle-hardened and radicalized fighters.

Choudhury, who in May became the first person to be convicted in Britannia of terror offenses related to the Syria conflict, was found guilty of engaging in conduct in preparation of terrorist acts.

Ahmed and Sarwar were tossed in the calaboose
Drop the heater, Studs, or you're hist'try!
for the same offense after traveling to Syria to join an Al-Qaeda-linked terrorist group.

Sarwar and Ahmed went to Syria in May last year after contacting Islamic murderous Moslems, and were incarcerated

on their return to Britannia in January, a court heard.

"They willingly, enthusiastically and with a great deal of purpose, persistence and determination embarked on a course intended to commit acts of terrorism," judge Michael Topolski said.

Choudhury was part of a group of up to six young men who traveled from Portsmouth to Syria in October last year, with the intention of attending a terror training camp, his trial heard.

Four of the group -- known as the "Pompey Boys" after a local football team, or the "Britani brigade Bangladeshi bad boys" -- have already been killed in fighting, according to reports.
"Cecil! I believe I am undone!"
"I, too, am leaving behind cares and woe, Percy!"

The self-proclaimed Islamic State group aims to create a "caliphate" straddling Syria and Iraq, and has proved adept at using social media, gruesome online videos and glossy literature to attract thousands of volunteers.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia Convicts Accomplices in Volgograd Bombing
[AnNahar] A Russian court on Friday convicted four men for helping orchestrate twin suicide kabooms in 2013 that killed 34 people, handing down sentences of up to 19 years in detention.

The attacks against the main railway station in the southern city of Volgograd and a trolleybus took place on two consecutive days in late December, sparking security fears only two months before Russia hosted the Winter Olympic Games.

Volgograd's Dzerzhinsky District Court ruled four people guilty of conspiring to stage the blasts by giving shelter to the two jacket wallahs and helping them leave the North Caucasus region, hidden in a truck carrying hay.

The bombers, Asker Samedov and Suleiman Magomedov, were helped in Dagestan
...a formerly inoffensive Caucasus republic currently bedevilled by low-level Islamic insurgency, occasional outbreaks of separatism, ethnic tensions and terrorism, primarily due to its proximity to Chechnya. There are several dozen ethnic groups, most of which speak either Caucasian, Turkic, or Iranian languages. Largest among these ethnic groups are the Avar, Dargin, Kumyk, Lezgin, and Laks. While Russers form less than five percent of the population, Russian remains the primary official language and the lingua franca...
by Alautdin Dadayev and Ibragim Magomedov, who "let them live in their houses and make the bombs" there, the Investigative Committee said in a statement.

Dadayev and Magomedov were sentenced to 19 years each in a strict penal colony, the statement said. They were tossed in the slammer
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
in February and police found "large quantities of weapons and ammunition" as well as home-made explosives in Magomedov's house, the statement said.

Two others -- radical Islamist brothers Magomed Batirov and Tagir Batirov -- "bought 188 bales of hay and placed them in a Kamaz truck" to hide the bombers who traveled to Volgograd on the truck.

The brothers were sentenced to three years and ten months each.

Moscow has battled simmering insurgency for several years in the North Caucasus after fighting two wars with separatists in Chechnya. The violence subsequently spread through the predominantly Moslem region.

In Chechnya, Islamists grabbed credit for a deadly raid in the capital Grozny on Thursday, where a shootout in the city center and festivities involving armored vehicles used by security forces left 20 people dead and several buildings barely standing.

Dagestan remains by far the most turbulent region with near weekly attacks by Islamists and 200 people dead from violence between murderous Moslems and security forces in the first 11 months of 2014, according to the Caucasian Knot news website that tracks the Caucasus region.

Kadyrov: Terrorists' families to be deported, homes razed
Chechen leader Ramzan Kadyrov has announced new punishments for terrorism that target the families of those committing terrorist acts, a day after an attack in Grozny left 24 people dead.

Kadyrov said on his Instagram account on December 5, "If a gunman in Chechnya kills a policeman or someone else, the gunman's family will be immediately evicted from Chechnya without the right to return, and their home will be razed down to the basement.
Golly. Just like the Israelis. Doesn't he know that doesn't work?
Everyone should be aware of this before aiming a weapon at a policeman or another person. I won’t allow anyone to shed blood here."

Kadyrov continued, "The time when it was said that parents don't answer for the deeds of their sons or daughters is over. They will answer in Chechnya."

Kadyrov spoke after terrorists militants occupied a printing house on December 4 and battled security forces. Russia's Interior Ministry said that 14 policemen and security force members and ten terrorists militants had been killed in the clash. The building was destroyed after a fire broke out.

Kadyrov claimed Akhmat Umarov, the brother of the late Chechen militant leader Doku Umarov, plotted the attack in Grozny. He said Umarov organized the attack by "deceiving the group of thugs who infiltrated Grozny" that there were some 400 gunmen already deployed there waiting to join the operation once the publishing house was captured.

Akhmat Umarov lives in Turkey. Kadyrov said Russian officials should "demand that Turkish authorities extradite him."

Meanwhile, Russian Foreign Minister Sergei Lavrov criticized members of Ukraine's government who, Lavrov charged, spoke positively about the attack. Lavrov called the Ukrainian lawmakers' comments of support "blasphemous and cynical" and said statements from those lawmakers about opening a "second front" in Chechnya could cause Russia to file a lawsuit.

Russian authorities have filed criminal cases against Ukrainian officials, but neither party has any authority to bring officials from the other country to court.

German sentenced to less than four years for fighting with IS
A court in Frankfurt has sentenced a German national to three years and nine months in prison, after he admitted fighting with Islamic State (IS) militants in Syria. Kreshnik Berisha spent six months in Syria last year, fighting with IS in Aleppo province. Berisha was nabbed in December 2013 immediately on his return to Frankfurt.

Berisha is one of an estimated 500 Germans who have traveled to Syria to fight with IS. Of those 500, German intelligence estimates that that 180 have returned to Germany and another 60 have been killed in Syria, nine in suicide attacks.

Claudia Dantsche, who counsels families whose relatives are at risk of radicalization, said that there has been "a massive increase in propaganda from recruiters for ISIS...They have Germans spreading their propaganda on Facebook in German, in groups frequented by teenagers and on pages of people they identify with. The extent and effect of this radical direct approach is a new thing."

Syrian Associate Of Arms Dealer Gets 5 Years In US Prison
[Ynet] A Syrian associate of international arms dealer Viktor Bout who served in the US Army was sentenced Thursday to five years in prison on conspiracy and wire fraud charges.

US District Judge William H. Pauley III sentenced Richard Chichakli below sentencing guidelines that called for seven to nine years, noting his medical problems, his military service and his claims that he suffers from post-traumatic stress disorder as a result of his time as a soldier and of his childhood. Chichakli was also ordered to forfeit $1.7 million and pay $70,000 in restitution.

A year ago, a Manhattan jury found that he tried to illegally buy two airplanes to transport weapons to international war zones. Chichakli had been extradited to the United States from Australia, where he was tossed in the clink

Shukrijumah dead in Pak shootout
Shukrijumah, al-Qaeda's chief of global operations who had a $5 million (£3.2 million) bounty on his head, died in a raid by Pakistain military on a compound in South Wazoo
[Telegraph.uk] For a decade, he had criminal masterminded terror attacks against the West; plotting mass death and destruction on such targets as a Manchester shopping centre and the London Underground from his hideaway in a remote and lawless region of Pakistain.
He's been on the Burg radar since 2002.
On Saturday, the authorities finally caught up with Adnan Shukrijumah, al-Qaeda's chief of global operations who had a $5 million (£3.2 million) bounty on his head. Shukrijumah, 39, died in a raid by Pakistain military on a compound in South Wazoo tribal area. He had been hunted down and killed.

US authorities had him on their most wanted list since 2010, while the justice department had charged him with ordering an attack on the New York subway. The same indictment links him to a plot to blow up shopping centres in Manchester, while he has also been implicated in attacks on the London Underground and to trains in Norway.

Shukrijumah's role in al-Qaeda was to choose the targets and then recruit the holy warriors to carry them out. The attacks on New York, London and Manchester were thankfully thwarted.

Confirmation of his death came from a Pakistain senior army officer. "The al-Qaeda leader, who was killed by the Pakistain army in a successful operation, is the same person who had been indicted in the United Stated," he said.

Shukrijumah was made al-Qaeda's chief of global operations five years ago, taking on a role filled by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed. He was the only senior al-Qaeda leader with a green card.
Shukrijumah was made al-Qaeda's chief of global operations five years ago, taking on a role filled by Khalid Sheikh Mohammed, the criminal mastermind behind the 9/11 attacks on the Twin Towers and who was captured in 2003. Shukrijumah was also implicated, according to intelligence sources, in the 9/11 plot and was friends with at least some of the hijackers.

While born in Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. The country supports a large number of princes in whatcha might call princely splendor. When the oil runs out the rest of the world is going to kick sand in the Soddy national face...
, Shukrijumah, 39, had a better insight into the West than perhaps any other al-Qaeda operative, including even its founder the late Osama bin Laden
... who used to be alive but now he's not...
. He had grown up in the US, his family moving to Brooklyn when he was a teenager in the Eighties and then to Florida in the Nineties, giving Shukrijumah a familiarity with America that allowed him to move largely unnoticed. He was the only senior al-Qaeda leader with a green card.

It is reported he was a regular traveller to the Caribbean and an occasional visitor to London before he went on the run in the weeks prior to the 9/11 attack.

Federal authorities in the US believe Shukrijumah oversaw a panel with two other senior al-Qaeda leaders that hatched attacks from their base in Pakistain. One of his fellow plotters was Rashid Rauf, the Birmingham-born al-Qaeda commander, who had also criminal masterminded a plot to blow up transatlantic airliners using liquid bombs. Rauf was killed in a dronezap in 2008 in North Waziristan; Saleh al-Somali, the third member of the panel, was killed a year later in another drone strike.

Security services accuse Shukrijumah of involvement in a number of planned atrocities, including the plot to blow up a Manchester shopping centre in 2009. A dozen students were nabbed
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
but none charged due to lack of evidence. Some of the suspects had been watched by MI5 agents as they filmed themselves outside the Trafford Centre on the edge of Manchester, the Arndale Centre in the city centre, and the nearby St Ann's Square. Police round up the alleged plotters after they were overheard discussing dates, understood to include the Easter bank holiday, one of the busiest shopping weekends of the year.

Had it been successful, the attack would likely have been the worst in the UK. "We had to act," an intelligence source said at the time.

A year later on July 7 2010, Shukrijumah was charged by the US justice department with "an al-Qaeda plot to attack targets in the United States and United Kingdom". Two other men indicted in New York -- Abid Naseer and Tariq ur Rehman -- had previously been arrested on suspicion of terrorism over the Manchester plot.

Shukrijumah was charged with "providing and conspiring to provide material support to al-Qaeda; conspiring to use weapons of mass destruction; assisting the receipt of military training; committing and attempting to commit an act of terrorism transcending national boundaries; and using firearms in relation to the same offences".

The foiled attack on the new York subway, using a different cell, was described by the attorney general Eric Inaction Jackson Holder
... aka Mister Fast and Furious...
at the time as "one of the most dangerous" since 9/11.

Federal prosecutors said Shukrijumah had also recruited three men to carry out attacks on the London Underground as well. Details of that remain scant.

In the US, he had not amounted to much. His father, a scholar born in Guyana in South America, had been a holy man at a mosque in Brooklyn until he moved the family to Florida. Shukrijumah went to a local college before getting a job selling used cars.

His mother Zurah Adbu Ahmed , described him as a "kind, loving, caring boy", but admitted he had been angered by the excesses of American society including "drugs, alcohol, a love for sex, and clubs". She added: "That doesn't make him a terrorist."

On Saturday in a pre-dawn raid, Pak helicopter gunships swooped on Shukrijumah's hideout. He died in a shootout, the most senior al-Qaeda leader killed by the Pakistain military. Intelligence officials confirmed that five people captured were Shukrijumah's wife and four children.

Banned outfit's activists held
LAHORE: An intelligence agency with the help of the city police raided a property in Main Market, Gulberg, and two other places in the provincial capital on Friday and picked up a dozen people said to be members of a banned outfit.

A police source told Dawn the suspects, including two ‘commanders’, belonged to banned Hizbut Tehrir. Their laptops, mobile phones, organisation specific literature and sensitive material were also seized during evening raids.

He said the suspects, who were picked up from a rented property in Main Market, Bund Road and Lorry Adda, had been brought to the Ghalib Market police station for further action.

The official said police would interrogate the suspects to probe whether they were working only for their organization or they also carried out some activities for Islamic State of Iraq and Syria (also named as Daesh).

Meanwhile, the suspects along with seized literature were produced before the media at the police station. Police will produce them in court on Saturday (today) to obtain their remand.

Elders from Kunar, Bajaur meet for peace
A grand jirga of elders of the Mamond tribe from both sides of the Pakistain-Afghan border decided on Friday to curb border incursion by faceless myrmidons and ensure durable peace and stability in the region.

The jirga, held in the border town of Tarkhoo in Bajaur, was attended by 22 tribal elders from Afghanistan's Kunar province
... which is right down the road from Chitral. Kunar is Haqqani country.....
and men belonging to different sub-tribes of Mamond tribe in Bajaur Agency, aka Turban Central
...Smallest of the agencies in FATA. The Agency administration is located in Khar. Bajaur is inhabited almost exclusively by Tarkani Pashtuns, which are divided into multiple bickering subtribes. Its 52 km border border with Afghanistan's Kunar Province makes it of strategic importance to Pakistain's strategic depth...
.

The jirga was aimed at restoring brotherly relations between people affected by militancy in the border region.

The Swat
...a valley and an administrative district in the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Province of Pakistain, located 99 mi from Islamabad. It is inhabited mostly by Pashto speakers. The place has gone steadily downhill since the days when Babe Ruth was the Sultan of Swat...
Taliban, who are loyal to outlawed TTP chief Mullah Fazlullah
...son-in-law of holy man Sufi Mohammad. Known as Mullah FM, Fazlullah had the habit of grabbing his FM mike when the mood struck him and bellowing forth sermons. Sufi suckered the Pak govt into imposing Shariah on the Swat Valley and then stepped aside whilst Fazlullah and his Talibs imposed a reign of terror on the populace like they hadn't seen before, at least not for a thousand years or so. For some reason the Pak intel services were never able to locate his transmitter, much less bomb it. After ruling the place like a conquered province for a year or so, Fazlullah's Talibs began gobbling up more territory as they pushed toward Islamabad, at which point as a matter of self-preservation the Mighty Pak Army threw them out and chased them into Afghanistan...
, are reported to have taken shelter in Kunar and launched attacks on Pak security forces and tribal people along the border areas.

Although the jirga members did not specify measures to be taken to restore peace, they were optimistic about persuading the people living along the border to keep a check on the movement of irrelevant people.

The jirga discussed the law and order situation along the border and a future line of action to maintain peace and strengthen ties among tribal people.

Before the spillover of militancy in the region, tribal people from both sides of the Durand line had very close relation.

The elders and Maliks who attended the jirga reached an understanding to devise a strategy to curtail the movement of bully boyz and myrmidons. They vowed not to allow faceless myrmidons to use their territory for terrorist activities.

The jirga was told that peace and stability on both sides of the border were vital for prosperity and sustainable development in the region. The elders were of the opinion that since the tribal people of Kunar and Bajaur had the same culture and traditions, they should not create differences and enmities.

One soldier killed, six injured during rocket attack in Orakzai
One soldier was killed and six others were maimed Friday in a rocket attack on Kalaya, the agency headquarters of the restive northwestern Orakzai Agency
... crawling with holy men, home to Darra Adam Khel, the world's largest illegal arms bazaar. 14 distinct tribes of beturbanned primitives inhabit Orakzai agency's 1500 or so square kilometers...

Official sources said that two rockets were fired on the Kalaya Headquarters as a result of which seven soldiers sustained injuries. One of the injured soldiers died on his way to a hospital, while six others are receiving medical treatment.

Last month, 18 suspected bully boyz and six soldiers were killed during a gun-battle in Orakzai Agency. The gun-battle was set off by an attack by bully boyz before dawn, on a check-post in Shireen Dara area of Lower Orakzai.

Orakzai is one of Pakistain's seven semi-autonomous tribal regions in the northwest, where Pak Taliban and Al Qaeda-linked bully boyz are said to have carved out strongholds.

It was a key abode of former Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) chief Hakimullah Mehsud before he was killed in a US drone strike in North Wazoo in 2013.

'Missing' ASWJ activist found shot dead
[DAWN] A "missing" activist of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
was found rubbed out, a party official said on Wednesday.

The spokesperson for the ASWJ, Umar Muavia, said their 30-year-old party worker Tariq Muavia had been taken away in Lyari
...one of the eighteen constituent towns of the city of Karachi. It is the smallest town by area in the city but also the most densely populated. Lyari has few schools, substandard hospitals, a poor water system, limited infrastructure, and broken roads. It is a stronghold of ruling Pakistan Peoples Party. Ubiquitous gang activity and a thriving narcotics industry make Lyari one of the most disturbed places in Karachi, which is really saying a lot....
around two months back.

On Wednesday, they found his body at the Edhi morgue in Sohrab Goth, he added.

There were torture marks and bullet wounds on his body.

The party official said they were collecting information how his body reached the Edhi morgue.

The latest attack took place in Kashmire's Uri sector near the militarised border. Kashmiris are voting for a new state assembly in large numbers, officials said, and the attack came just days before voting in the staggered election is due to be held in that sector.

Paris Says 'Major' Anti-IS Raid Taking Place in Iraq
[AnNahar] La Belle France said Friday its fighter jets were conducting a "major" raid in Iraq as part of the U.S.-led coalition offensive against the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group, days after members said the strikes were having effect.

"At the moment, a major raid is taking place," Defence Minister Jean-Yves Le Drian told BFMTV, refusing to detail the targets or the number of jets involved.

He said French planes based in the United Arab Emirates and more recently in Jordan had carried out "120 to 130 missions" since the start of the coalition offensive.

These include intelligence gathering missions. Compared to the United States, La Belle France has carried out only a handful of strikes on the turbans.

The coalition of around 60 mainly Western and Arab states was formed several months after IS jihadists swept across northern Iraq, seizing swathes of territory and proclaiming a caliphate in parts of the country and neighbouring Syria.

Gay Paree has so far refused to join the United States in its air war against IS in Syria, but on Wednesday, President Francois Hollande
...the Socialist president of La Belle France, an economic bad joke for la Belle France but seemingly a foreign policy realist...
said La Belle France was ready to step up its actions against the murderous Moslems in Iraq.

The same day, a meeting in Brussels of countries in the coalition concluded that the IS group's advance was finally being stopped thanks to the strikes -- a claim reiterated Friday by Le Drian.

"But this halt does not mean that the war is over," he warned.

In an interview this week with French weekly Gay Paree Match, however, Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Light of the Alawites...
differed, saying the strikes were having no impact.

Le Drian hit out at Assad's comments.

"It's vile for someone who has the deaths of 200,000 of his countrymen and women on his conscience to give lessons," he said.
Surely no more than half of those deaths are due to Assad, the other half -- or more -- being courtesy of ISIS, Al Nusra, and the rest.

IS Closes in on East Syria Air Base

group jihadists are closing in on the government-held Deir Ezzor air base in eastern Syria, nearly surrounding its beleaguered garrison, a monitoring group said on Friday.

IS fighters seized the village of Al-Jaffrah, adjacent to the base, leaving it surrounded except for a narrow corridor to the west, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

IS forces control most of Deir Ezzor province, but half of its capital remains in government hands, along with the military airport.

The oil-rich province lies between IS-controlled Raqa province and the Iraqi border, and is a key prize for the jihadist group, which declared an Islamic "caliphate" straddling the two countries in June.

IS launched a renewed assault on the military airport earlier this week.

The fighting has killed at least 30 government troops and militia, as well as 27 IS fighters, over the past 48 hours, the Observatory said.

Two of those killed on the government side were captured and beheaded, the Britannia-based group said.

Further east, at least 15 jihadists were killed in a U.S.-led coalition air strike on an IS convoy near the Albu Kamal crossing on the border with Iraq, it added.

Female Soldiers Recruited to Search Veiled Women in Sidon as Asir Warns of Storming Ain el-Hilweh
[AnNahar] The army is cautiously carrying out precautionary measures at the entrances of the southern Ein el-Hellhole Paleostinian refugee camp as Salafist holy man Sheikh Ahmed al-Asir
...Leb Salafist holy man with the usual grouch against Shiites. Currently on the run, he seems intent on reigniting the Leb civil war...
denied that he is residing there.

According to Ad Diyar newspaper published on Friday, the Lebanese army fortified its posts in the southern city of Sidon and appointed female soldiers to search veiled women after obtaining reports that Islamist runaway Shadi Mawlawi and Asir are planning to escape from the Paleostinian camp.

Mawlawi has been charged with belonging to an armed terrorist group in order to stage terrorist acts, and holing up at a Tripoli

mosque with the aim of preparing bombs and bombs to target Lebanese troops in the area.

In November, the militia led by Mawlawi and Osama Mansour clashed with the army in Tripoli and Akkar district. The gunbattles left dozens of fighters, soldiers and civilians dead and injured.

Media reports said that Mawlawi and Asir are preparing a security operation.

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy had come up with a new idea, one that didn't involve kerosene...
Asir said via social networking website Twitter that he is not in Ein el-Hellhole.

?I advise all brothers not to head to the camp,? Asir said in his tweet.

Judicial authorities have issued a detention order for Asir and 123 of his supporters, including singer turned Salafist Fadel Shaker, whose brother was killed in festivities with the army in Sidon last year.

Army Defuses Grenade and Home-Made Bomb in Tripoli
[AnNahar] A Lebanese army expert dismantled on Friday a hand grenade and a home-made bomb in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, the military announced.

The grenade and bomb were discovered by an army patrol in a empty water bottle in Tripoli's al-Amercan neighborhood, it said in a communique.

The bomb was produced from 500 grams of explosives and was linked along with the grenade to a fuse, the communique added.

On Wednesday, a Lebanese military expert was killed and two others were maimed when a bomb they were about to dismantle near the northeastern border town of Arsal went kaboom!.

The kaboom came a day after an ambush by gunnies in Ras Baalbek killed six soldiers and maimed one.

Troops have been battling Syria-based hard boys, including the Lion of Islam Islamic State

group and the al-Qaeda-linked Nusra Front, in areas near the border.

Soldiers have also lately engaged in deadly gunbattles with Lebanese faceless myrmidons in northern Leb.

Jihadi recruitment in impoverished areas of the North is on the rise, and black IS flags fly freely in some areas, reflecting pockets of growing support for the radical group.
