Libya frees nine Turks detained by army
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] Libya on Friday released nine Turks who had been captured by the army and handed them over to representatives from Ankara, a government statement said.

The men had been captured by troops in the embattled eastern city of Benghazi, where former general Khalifa Haftar
... served in the Libyan army under Muammar Qadaffy, and took part in the coup that brought Qadaffy to power in 1969. He became a prisoner of war in Chad in 1987. While held prisoner, he and his fellow officers formed a group hoping to overthrow Qadaffy. He was released around 1990 in a deal with the United States government and spent nearly two decades in the United States, gaining US citizenship. In 1993, while living in the United States, he was convicted in absentia of crimes against the Jamahiriya and sentenced to death. Haftar held a senior position in the anti-Qadaffy forces in the 2011 Libyan Civil War. In 2014 he was commander of the Libyan Army when the General National Congress (GNC) refused to give up power in accordance with its term of office. Haftar launched a campaign against the GNC and its Islamic fundamentalist allies. His campaign allowed elections to take place to replace the GNC, but then developed into a civil war. Guess you can't win them all...
has launched an offensive against Islamist Death Eaters.

A statement from the internationally recognized government said the men were freed in response to a request by the U.N. mission in Libya (UNSMIL).

They were handed over to Turkey in an operation monitored by UNSMIL chief Bernardino Leon, the statement said.

In June, more than 400 Turks were evacuated from Libya following threats by Haftar, who accuses Ankara of backing his Islamist opponents.

Most of those evacuated had been working at a power station in the city of Sirte, home town of slain dictator Muammar Qadaffy
...a reminder that a single man with an idea can change an entire nation, usually for the worse...
.

A front man for Haftar, Mohammed Hijazi, said "the army released the Turkish nationals after making sure that they were not involved" in fighting that has rocked Benghazi almost daily since May.

Haftar launched an initial offensive against Islamists in Libya's second city in May with no government support, but in October, with Islamist militia influence growing, he launched a new campaign, this time backed by government troops.

Three years after Qadaffy was toppled and killed in a NATO
...the North Atlantic Treaty Organization. A cautionary tale of cost-benefit analysis....
-backed revolt, Libya is awash with weapons and powerful militias, and run by rival governments and parliaments.

Also on Friday, Libya's rival government said it had seized an Airbus A300 at an airport in the oasis town of Ghadames, southwest of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, because it was carrying "suspicious cargo".

A statement said that seven crew members -- three Russians, two Ukrainians and two Tajiks -- were also detained.

A front man for the internationally recognized government, which is based in the east, told AFP the aircraft was carrying "humanitarian aid" for southwestern regions of Libya.

gunnies at a filling station in Nigeria's northern city of Kano.

The kaboom, which caused a great fire and set cars ablaze, took place at about 7:30 p.m. (1830 GMT) at the Nagarshiku petrol station in the Hotoro area of Kano on Friday.

"A man driving a Toyota Sienna drove into the filling station as if he was going to buy fuel," said Kano state police commissioner Adenrele Shinaba, adding, "The vehicle went kaboom! causing six deaths, including three coppers."

Five people also sustained injuries in the kaboom, according to the Nigerian police official.

Shinaba further noted that "the terrorists" were behind the attack, referring to the Boko Haram hard boys.

A resident in Hotoro said firefighters struggled to extinguish the flames, adding, "I don't think there is any survivor inside the filling station."

The recent blast comes amid the deteriorating security condition in northern Nigeria, where the Boko Haram gunnies are relentlessly committing crimes against civilians and government forces.

Bokeaux seize Chibok, hometown of kidnapped schoolgirls
[FOXNEWS] Islamic faceless myrmidons in Nigeria have seized Chibok, forcing thousands of people to flee the town where turbans kidnapped nearly 300 schoolgirls in April, a local official said Friday.

The Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
turbans entered the town Thursday, shooting from pickup trucks and cycle of violences, Bana Lawan, chairman of the Chibok local government, told The News Agency that Dare Not be Named.

"Nobody can tell you what is happening there today because everybody is just trying to escape with their lives," he said.

In Washington, State Department spokeswoman Jen Psaki
...a valley girl who woke up one morning and found she was spokeswoman for the U.S. Department of State...
said the U.S. is closely monitoring the situation in Chibok.

" We condemn these attacks in Chibok, a community that has already suffered too much. ... We remain committed to helping the government of Nigeria address the threat posed by bad boy organizations, Psaki told news hounds.

In a separate development, a bomb went kaboom! Friday night in northern Kano city, the second largest population center in Nigeria, killing an unknown number of people.

Resident Aliyu Yusuf Hotoro said many buildings shook from the force of the kaboom opposite a gas station on a main road leading to Maiduguri, the capital of Borno state to the northeast. Soldiers, police and emergency rescue operations workers cordoned off the area.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility for the bomb, but Boko Haram faceless myrmidons have detonated ones in Kano in the past.

Houthi fighters drive al-Qaeda out of Yemen's key district
[Iran Press TV] Yemeni Houthi
...a Zaidi Shia insurgent group operating in Yemen. They have also been referred to as the Believing Youth. Hussein Badreddin al-Houthi is said to be the spiritual leader of the group and most of the military leaders are his relatives. The Yemeni government has accused the Houthis of having ties to the Iranian government, which wouldn't suprise most of us. The group has managed to gain control over all of Saada Governorate and parts of Amran, Al Jawf and Hajjah Governorates. Its slogan is God is Great, Death to Americaâ¢, Death to Israel, a curse on the Jews ...
movement's Ansarullah fighters have driven al-Qaeda-linked Death Eaters out of a key district in al-Bayda Province in central Yemen, tribal sources said.

The Shia fighters liberated the Khobza area near the city of Rada' on Friday after fierce fighting that left 25 Houthi fighters and 10 al-Qaeda Death Eaters dead.

Ansarullah fighters used Katuysha rockets and heavy artillery in the fighting which began on Thursday afternoon.

Rada' is regarded as one of the main strongholds of the Death Eaters in the strategic central parts of Yemen.

The Lions of Islam have now withdrawn to Yakla district, on the border with Ma'rib Province.

Al-Qaeda Death Eaters frequently carry out attacks on Yemen's security forces and have been locked in deadly battles with Ansarullah fighters over the past months.

The central government has so far failed to confront the terrorist threat. Ansarullah fighters, however, have intervened to fill the vacuum and driven al-Qaeda Death Eaters out of many areas in the country.

#12  Thank you Steve White.

A woman of the Kurdish YPJ in an interview said she does not take prisoners, saying they could have suicide bombs on them. However, I have seen videos of the Kurdish men of the YPG take prisoners who are clearly non-threatening.

In WWII US Troops shot fanatical Japanese troops who would not follow instructions while surrendering thinking they may have a hammer and a mortar shell hidden on them. When in the midst of US Troops an IJA soldier not properly disarmed could hit the mortar shell with a hammer killing everyone around him.

Two RKK militants gunned down in southern Thailand
Two wanted militant leaders were gunned down and five others arrested in a shootout yesterday in Pattani province.

One of the dead suspects was Adul Rahman Jehtae, who was wanted under 84 arrest warrants for numerous crimes. The other dead man was Russali Baesorohmae, who had 10 arrest warrants issued against him.

Police said both were foreign-trained commando chiefs acting as the heads of the Runda Kumpulan Kecil cells active locally and previously in Yala province.

One of the five men arrested is Tuloh Keeyah, a former deputy head of a local administration organisation.

The shootout began after security forces sealed off a village to look for high-profile targets at dawn. Muslim clerics and community leaders were brought in to negotiate surrenders. The five arrested men surrendered, but the two suspects who were killed remained inside the house and opened fire on security forces in a gunfight that lasted about two minutes.

Meanwhile, two suspected insurgents hurled a grenade from a bridge in Pattani's Muang district which failed to explode when it hit the ground because the safety pin had not been removed.
