Libya violence: Activists beheaded in Derna
[BBC] Three young activists have been found beheaded in Derna, in eastern Libya.

The three, who had relayed information about the city through social media, had been kidnapped earlier this month.

Several Islamist groups are competing for control of the city, with some murderous Moslems recently declaring allegiance to Islamic State

Libya has been in a state of flux since Col Qadaffy was tossed in 2011, with disparate tribes, militias and political factions fighting for power.

#1  ...Derna is kind of a weird place: no matter WHO is in charge in Tripoli, they're against them. It seems to be nothing personal, but just a matter of tradition. In addition, they are a center of religious thought in that part of Libya.

And yes, that's exactly as bad as you'd think.

"We also reiterate our call for those found responsible for human rights violations and abuses to be held to account under international and Libyan law," it said.

Boko Haram Attacks in North Cameroon Kill Three
[AnNahar] Islamists from Nigeria's Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
killed at least three civilians over the weekend as they attacked six communities in the remote north of neighboring Cameroon
...a long, narrow country that fills the space between Nigeria and Chad on the northeast, CAR to the southeast. Prior to incursions by Boko Haram nothing ever happened there...
, a defense ministry source told Agence La Belle France Presse on Tuesday.

"Six attacks were carried out almost simultaneously on Sunday," the source said on condition of anonymity, adding that at least three people were reported killed in the attacks.

Boko Haram's five-year insurgency in Nigeria has left thousands dead, and the Islamists have occasionally carried out attacks over the border, including a raid earlier this year blamed on the group that saw 10 Chinese and 17 locals taken hostage. They were released in October.

Cameroon has reinforced its military presence in the region in a bid to stop an escalation in attacks by Boko Haram.

Three Killed as Police, Rebels Clash at Yemen Airport
[AnNahar] Clashes at Sanaa airport between Yemeni police and Shiite rebel gunnies have left three dead, in a rare confrontation since the rebels overran the capital in September, a security official said Tuesday.

Two coppers and a civilian were killed in the festivities that erupted overnight between police and gunnies based at the airport since the northern rebels seized the capital unopposed on September 21.

The shootout caused a brief interruption of air traffic, the official said.

It followed a strike by airport staff who demanded the withdrawal of the rebel gunnies from the airport.

Complaints have recently been made by Western embassies that rebels stationed at the airport have opened their diplomatic mail, violating international conventions, sources at Yemen's foreign ministry said.

The snuffies have also been insisting on boarding planes for inspection, aviation sources said, causing several airlines to delay resuming flights to Sanaa that were suspended on September 19 for security reasons.

The rebels remain the main force in the capital.

A U.N.-brokered agreement reached in September stipulated that the Houthis, also known as Ansarullah, would withdraw from Sanaa once a new prime minister is named.

But they have rejected a new cabinet formed on Friday, insisting on a reshuffle that would keep out officials that they accuse of corruption.

Since they overran Sanaa, the Huthis have expanded their control to coastal areas and regions south of the capital, where their fighters have met fierce resistance from Sunni tribes and Al-Qaeda.

Al Qaeda member killed in Yemen strike, official says
[CNN] An al Qaeda leader in Yemen was among those killed in what a Yemeni official called a "counterterrorism strike," the latest such strike at a time of intensified fighting in the Arab nation.

The Yemeni official said Wednesday that those killed include Shawki al-Badani, whom the U.S. State Department named a "specially designated global terrorist" in June. So, too, was Nabil al-Dahab, a top member of the conservative Salafist group Ansar al Sharia.

Initial reports out of Yemen sometimes prove untrue. That said, the United States similarly believes al-Badani was killed in a strike, according to two U.S. officials who spoke to CNN on the condition of anonymity.

They said they are still trying to confirm whether al-Dahab was killed. The officials would not say if the two men were at the same location.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Chechen gets two years for fighting with the 'Free Syrian Army'
A court in Grozny sentenced a local man to two years' imprisonment in a penal colony for fighting in Syria. Said Mazhaev went to Syria in November 2013. He returned home to Chechnya on January 14, when he was taken into custody.

The indictment says that Mazhaev fought for the Free Syrian Army (FSA), which is highly unlikely to have been the case. The FSA is a loosely defined term for locally based Syrian armed opposition groups, not a foreign fighter faction. That the term "Free Syrian Army" was used is thought to be a political move on behalf of the Chechen Republic, which - like Moscow - considers all of the armed Syrian opposition including the relatively moderate, Western-backed Free Syrian Army to be illegal terrorist organizations.

It is much more likely that Mazhaev fell in with other Chechens in Syria. In November 2013, when he traveled there, that would almost certainly have meant Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar, at the time led by Umar Shishani. Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar is linked to the Caucasus Emirate, which calls for the violent overthrow of the Chechen leadership. Chechen leadership would not likely want to publicize young Chechens who go to Syria to fight in a group that has any connection with the Caucasus Emirate.

Had Mazhaev been with Jaish al-Muhajireen wal-Ansar from November 2013 until January 2014, there would have been good reason for him to have become disillusioned with jihad, because that is the time when Umar Shishani moved with a group of his men to join Islamic State, a decision that caused a bitter split among North Caucasian militants in Syria.

Wagah attack suspects among 13 killed in Khyber airstrikes
[DAWN] Security forces in precise aerial strikes in Daras area of Khyber Agency killed 13 suspected holy warriors including some foreigners on Tuesday, Pak military said.

"Strikes were carried out on credible intelligence about presence of holy warriors involved in Wagah border suicide kaboom," said a statement issued by the Inter-Services Public Relations (ISPR).

During the strikes, fighter jets destroyed three murderous Moslem hideouts including an ammunition depot.

Intelligence sources believe that the criminal mastermind and handlers of Wagah border incident might be among the dead.

The information, however, could not be verified independently due to restricted access for journalists in the area.

At least 60 Paks were killed during the popular flag-lowering ceremony on the India-Pakistain border at Wagah when the bomber tried to get as close as possible to the border earlier this month.

Claiming responsibility of the attack, Jamaat-ul-Ahrar ‐ a splinter group of Pak Taliban, had said the attack was as much aimed at India as Pakistain.

Three Levies personnel killed in Bajaur blast; Taliban claim responsibility
[DAWN] Three Levies personnel were killed and three others were maimed, including deputy tehsildar Shaibzada, in a bombing that targeted a security forces vehicle in Bajaur Agency, aka Turban Central
...Smallest of the agencies in FATA. The Agency administration is located in Khar. Bajaur is inhabited almost exclusively by Tarkani Pashtuns, which are divided into multiple bickering subtribes. Its 52 km border border with Afghanistan's Kunar Province makes it of strategic importance to Pakistain's strategic depth...
's Salarzai tehsil on Tuesday.

The outlawed Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) grabbed credit for the attack.

Speaking to Dawn, TTP front man Muhammad Khurrsani said that the Taliban had targeted Shaibzada in Bajaur Agency's Salarzai tehsil by planting an Improvised Explosive Device (IED).

Levies personnel were on polio
...Poliomyelitis is a disease caused by infection with the poliovirus. Between 1840 and the 1950s, polio was a worldwide epidemic. Since the development of polio vaccines the disease has been largely wiped out in the civilized world. However, since the vaccine is known to make Moslem pee-pees shrink and renders females sterile, bookish, and unsubmissive it is not widely used by the turban and automatic weapons set...
security patrol when the IED blast took place. As a result of the kaboom, the vehicle was completely destroyed. Three Levies personnel were killed and as many others sustained injuries.

Bajaur, a tribal region in Pakistain's Federally Administered Tribal Areas (Fata), is governed by tribal laws.

An holy warrior insurgency led by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) plagues the region and the area is known to be infested with bad boys, including those from Al Qaeda and other armed holy warrior organizations.

In October 2014, a bad boy outfit distributed pamphlets in Bajaur's tehsil Khar area warning polio workers against participating in the "anti-Islamic" polio vaccination drive, and vowing to attack all those participating in it.

The Pashto language pamphlet pasted on walls in various parts of Haji Lawang and Moslem Bagh area of Khar says that those supporting the polio drive or participating in vaccination would be targeted.

Three policemen killed in grenade, gun attacks in city
[DAWN] KARACHI: Three coppers were killed and two others maimed on Monday, when the interior minister was in the city to review progress of the Rangers-led targeted operation launched more than a year ago, officials said.

Five coppers were patrolling M. A. Jinnah Road in a police van when suspects riding a cycle of violence threw improvised kaboom at the vehicle near Gul Plaza, resulting in the death of two coppers and injuries to a third one, said Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
's additional inspector general of police Ghulam Qadir Thebo.

The kaboom appeared to be 'a mix of a grenade and chemicals' as it instantly triggered a fire, destroying the van. "Both coppers died from burns while the third one sustained pellet wounds and jumped off the vehicle," said the city police chief.

The dead and maimed coppers were taken to the Civil Hospital Karachi. The dead were identified as head constable Shamim Rehman, hailing from Swabi, and constable Mobin, from Jhelum, while head constable Faisal Ejaz was admitted to the hospital for treatment.

In the other incident in Gulshan-e-Iqbal, a policeman was rubbed out and another was maimed.

They were buying grocery at a roadside shop in Block 13-D when gunnies riding a cycle of violence attacked them and escaped. The maimed coppers were taken to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre, where doctors declared Muftahuddin, 36, dead on arrival, said Dr Seemin Jamali, head of the JPMC's emergency department. She added that another police constable, Abdul Qayyum, 42, was admitted for treatment. He had sustained bullet wounds on the shoulder and his condition appeared to be stable, added Dr Jamali.

The coppers were guards of SP Tahir Noorani, said the city police chief.

Mr Thebo said he suspected that hard boyz were involved in both attacks on coppers that were aimed at 'demoralising' the police who had carried out a sustained action against hard boyz in the metropolis.

The AIG said there were similarities in the grenade attack on the police van on Monday evening and another grenade attack on a police van near an Imambargah
...since Pakistain is very religiously correct, Shia Moslems can't call their houses of worship 'mosques,' which are reserved for Sunnis. It's not clear if imambargahs are used for explosives storage like mosques are...
at NIPA in Gulshan-e-Iqbal before Ashura as both attacks sparked fires.

He said the police had got some 'clues' which suggested that a 'new terrorist group' had adopted a method of targeting the police by throwing 'chemicals' on them.

Iraqi militias grow brutal in anti-ISIS fight
[ENGLISH.ALARABIYA.NET] The vengeance that Iraq's Shiite militias mete out as they fight the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
group can be just as savage as that of their sworn sectarian enemies.

In a grisly video recently posted online, a Shiite fighter shouts the name of a revered imam in victory as he poses beside decapitated bodies.

Another militiaman sits nearby, grinning as he maims a corpse.

One bearded militiaman explains the bodies are those of fighters who "killed our comrades." Another man shouts, "Our fighters were good guys. These are dogs."

The Shiite militias who have answered the call-to-arms by the government to fight the Islamic State group are growing more brutal, stoked by a desire for Dire Revenge against the Sunni holy warriors who have butchered Shiites who fall into their hands.

That vigilantism is posing a challenge for the Shiite-led government in Baghdad, where authorities have been embarrassed by international criticism of the militias and are worried about bandidos bully boyz getting out of control. Sunnis whom the government is trying to win over accuse the militias of atrocities against their community, and there are concerns over the militias' links to Iran and Leb's Shiite Hezbollah guerrilla group.

At the same time, the state can't do without them. The Iraqi army melted away in June when the holy warriors overran the northern city of djinn-infested Mosul
... the home of a particularly ferocious and hairy djinn...
and has struggled since to regroup. The tens of thousands of fighters in about half a dozen Shiite militias have filled the void. Militias have been credited with many of the recent battlefield victories south and west of Baghdad, while in the north, Iraqi Kurdish peshmerga fighters backed by U.S.-led Arclight airstrikes have taken back some territory that fell to the Sunni holy warriors this summer.

"The intervention of the Shiite volunteers was vital to saving Iraq," said Shiite politician Faleh Hassan, who joined the Kataeb Hizbollah, one of the most prominent militias. He said he was answering the call by Iraq's top Shiite holy man, Grand Ayatollah Ali al-Sistani, to help fight the krazed killers.

He said he fought in the battle that broke the krazed killers' siege on the Shiite-majority town of Amirli in August and later participated in operations to liberate Jurf al-Sakher, a town south of Baghdad.

He acknowledged "some misdeeds done by some Shiite fighters." But, he said, "such practices happen during wartime."

Abu Sayyaf bomb factory captured
The Philippine military said it captured a crude bomb factory for the Abu Sayyaf in Basilan province after a military offensive launched Sunday night.

Captain Rowena Muyuela said, "Before midnight of November 9, the joint forces of Western Mindanao Command (Westmincom) spearheaded by the combined elements of 104th Brigade conducted a deliberate attack against Abu Sayyaf Group under Furuji Indama and his IED (Improvised Explosive Device) factory at Tipo-Tipo, Basilan Province."

Colonel Rolando Bautista said the military offensive included a combination of artillery and mortar fire, which was followed by a ground assault.

Reports say up to 500 families were evacuated due to the military activity. The communication networks were also deactivated in 3 municipalities: Tipo-Tipo, Sumisip, and Ungkaya Pukan.

Local government officials in Basilan called for intensified military operations against the Abu Sayyaf following the slaying of six soldiers in an ambush by the Abu Sayyaf.

Syria Kurds 'Recapture' Areas of Kobane from IS
[AnNahar] Kurds battling the Islamic State
...formerly ISIS or ISIL, depending on your preference. Before that al-Qaeda in Iraq, as shaped by Abu Musab Zarqawi. They're very devout, committing every atrocity they can find in the Koran and inventing a few more. They fling Allah around with every other sentence, but to hear the pols talk they're not really Moslems....
jihadist group in Kobane reportedly made advances Tuesday in the south of the flashpoint Syrian town on the border with Turkey.

Top Kurdish officials told Agence La Belle France Presse their fighters were advancing "street by street", voicing confidence that the IS would soon be ejected.

The Syrian Observatory for Human Rights backed up the report.

"The (Kurdish) People's Protection Units (YPG) recaptured streets and buildings in the south of Kobane, after a fierce battle against the IS that began yesterday (Monday) evening," said the Britannia-based Observatory.

The monitor also said the YPG and its Iraqi peshmerga backers shelled IS positions on Tuesday elsewhere in Kobane, which is known in Arabic as Ain al-Arab.

On Monday night, the U.S.-led coalition that launched air strikes in Syria in September hit IS positions in Kobane's southeast.

Kobane has been under IS siege since mid-September.

Syria's Kurds are being backed by Iraqi peshmerga fighters and Syrian rebels in their bid to reclaim the town from jihadist hands.

More than 1,000 people have been killed in the fighting for Kobane, most of them jihadists.

Syrian Kurdish chief Saleh Moslem said the YPG were advancing "street by street" and that they would "recapture the town in a very short time".

And the Kurds' top field commander in Kobane, Narin Afrin, a 40-year-old woman, said by telephone: "We have been resisting for 56 days in very difficult conditions."

Kobane has become a symbol of resistance against jihadists who control swathes of territory in Syria and Iraq, committing brutal abuses against rivals and the local population.

#1  It has been announced that 30 families are moving back to Kobane.

ISIS supply lines into Kobane have been blocked after YPG takes control of strategic Raqqa and Tel Abyad roads into Kobane.

Supposedly US Soldiers in Turkey out of uniform are almost kidnapped by Turkish youth.

#5  FYI, the guys you hear on the video were cheering him on, with the AllahuAkbar and other comments. Its the ISIS snipers that were taking potshots at the little boy - may they rot in hell.

#6  Consider how this boy learned that snipers don't continue to shoot at targets that demonstrate they are hit.

That he used his knowledge to save another child is courage and bravery that we the old can understand and celebrate, but that he knew how to get inside the mind of the sniper, is the genius of the young that only the young can achieve but goes uncelebrated, because we the old do not remember how it was to be young.

#7  Oh, and if you missed out on sniper training, if it is important, unless in distress, take that second shot, just in case.
