UN: 9 Peacekeepers Killed in Northern Mali
[ABCNEWS.GO] Men on cycle of violences ambushed a convoy of U.N. peacekeepers in northern Mali on Friday, U.N. officials said, killing nine in the deadliest attack yet on the force.

It was the latest in a string of deadly attacks on the peacekeeping force tasked with bringing stability to the West African country following a coup and jihadist offensive, in what has become one of the bloodiest U.N. missions.

The convoy of troops from Niger included a fuel truck and may have been specifically targeted because of that, said U.N. front man Stephane Dujarric.

40 arrested after religious clashes in India's Gujarat
[Pak Daily Times] Authorities in India’s Gujarat
...where rioting seems to be a traditional passtime...
state locked away
Drop the rod and step away witcher hands up!
at least 40 people after late-night festivities between Hindus and Moslems in the city of Vadodara and suspended mobile phone Internet and bulk text messaging services for four days, officials said on Sunday.

Crowds from the two religious communities pelted each other with stones and set several vehicles alight until police dispersed them using tear gas on Saturday evening after days of tensions in the city, police told Rooters. Gujarat is the home state of Hindu nationalist Prime Minister Narendra Modi, who is currently in the United States and is scheduled to meet President Barack Obama
I am not a dictator!...
. The state has a majority Hindu population and a history of religious conflict. At least 1,000 people, mostly Moslems, died in Gujarat in 2002 in violence between Hindus and Moslems. Modi was chief minister of the state at the time.

The Hindustan Times newspaper reported this week that the trouble in Vadodara started with a posting on Facebook that some Moslems deemed offensive.

Police in the city said mobile phone text messages and other social media had been used to spread messages about rioting and to inflame religious tensions. The four-day suspension of the mobile Internet, bulk text messaging and MMS services began on Saturday, a crime branch official in Vadodara told Rooters on condition of anonymity.

Residents in the city confirmed to Rooters that services were disrupted. Emboldened by Modi’s emphatic election victory in May, Hindu hardliners have been agitating in parts of India against religious minorities.

A prominent right-wing Hindu group on Thursday warned Moslems and Christians against taking part in the Hindu Navratri festival as before.

“We have made 40 arrests since last night and will make more to quell the rioting,” SK Nanda, Gujarat’s home secretary, said. The police did not provide the number of injured in the festivities.

On Sunday, the streets of Vadodara were calm but the authorities remained on alert. “Not many people are out due to fear of recurrence of violence,” said a senior state government official, who did not wish to be identified. “We are keeping a close eye on the situation.”

bandidos bandidos myrmidons fighting in Iraq and Syria released a video on Friday that purported to show the beheading of a man it identified as British citizen Alan Henning.

The footage on YouTube, which was linked to on pro-Islamic State Twitter feeds, showed a man in an orange jumpsuit kneeling in a landscape who was identified as Henning.

"Because of our parliament's decision to attack the Islamic State, I, as a member of the British public, will now pay the price for that decision," the kneeling man says. Another man dressed in black and wearing a balaclava stands next to him.

A male voice then says, "The blood of David Haines was on your hands Cameron,” in a reference to Britannia’s prime minister. “Alan Henning will also be slaughtered, but his blood is on the hands of the British parliament."

The video shows the man in black making sawing motions at the kneeling man's neck. The video cuts to show a body in an orange jumpsuit lying on its front and a severed head balanced on the back of the corpse.

The black-clad man then introduces another hostage who he identifies as American Peter Edward Kassig.

U.S. officials confirmed that an American of that name was being held by the bandidos bandidos myrmidons and said they had no reason to doubt the authenticity of the video, titled "Another Message to America and its Allies."

fighters blew up a key bridge on Friday in Iraq’s Salaheddin province as they retreated in the face of an offensive by pro-government forces, officials said.

Iraqi troops, Kurdish peshmerga forces and Shiite militias have been pushing west from the city of Tuz Khurmatu since Thursday. “At 5 a.m. (0200 GMT), peshmerga and Iraqi forces attacked several areas, going from Tuz Khurmatu toward Tikrit, to reach Zerga bridge, a strategic link between the two,” Mullah Karim Shukur, a bigwig in the Patriotic Union of Kurdistan Party, said. “During this advance, retreating IS forces blew up the bridge and left dozens of bodies behind.”

Shallal Abdul, the mayor of Tuz Khurmatu, said five villages had been wrested back from the forces of Evil on Thursday and four more on Friday before reaching the bridge over a tributary of the Tigris. “They are going to retake all the areas under IS control, ” he said.

Iraq Army Chief Claims Major Victory in Sunni Town
[AnNahar]. Iraq's army chief Friday claimed a major victory in Dhuluiyah, a town north of Baghdad where a Sunni tribe has been resisting the Islamic State

jihadist group for almost four months.

The Dhuluiyah fighters contacted by Agence La Belle France-Presse, however, said the town had not yet been fully liberated.

"Dhuluiyah has been completely cleared of IS," Lieutenant General Mohammed al-Askari told AFP.

"The Iraqi army, as well as volunteers from the tribes and popular brigades (Shiite militias), entered Dhuluiyah and have now reached the office of the mayor," he said.

Dhuluiyah lies about 90 kilometers (55 miles) from Baghdad and the Jubur tribe in the south of the town has held out against relentless attacks by the jihadists.

A victory against IS there has been described as crucial to efforts by the government to show it was willing to support Sunni tribes rejecting IS.

"The army arrived from the north and moved into areas close to the Khazraj district" which has been under IS control for the best part of the past four months, said one fighter in Dhuluiyah, Abu Haitham al-Juburi.

He said the operation was coordinated with another tribe, the Albu Faraj, and explained that pro-government forces had left an escape route open for the jihadists in order to avoid more bloodshed.

"The officer in charge decided not to attack Khazraj tonight in order to minimize casualties. We will go there tomorrow," he said.

BIFF militants kill third soldier in Mindanao
Suspected members of a breakaway group from the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF) killed another soldier, the third in as many days, in Mindanao.

Colonel Marlon Abo said the victim, a corporal belonging to his unit, was in the town of Datu Piang, Maguindanao when two armed men on a motorcycle fired at him, killing him on the spot on Thursday morning. Abo said the killers fled with the victim’s motorcycle and wallet.

On Tuesday morning, armed men gunned down two Army soldiers in front of the Catholic church also in Datu Piang where they were lighting devotional candles to mark the birthday of one of the victims. The two soldiers were unarmed and in civilian clothes when they were shot and killed.

Abo blamed members of the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF), a breakaway group from the MILF, for the three killings. He pointed out that BIFF spokesman Abu Misry Mama earlier warned they would not stop their attacks on government security forces in their effort to establish an independent Islamic state in Mindanao.

Saqr Charges 11 with Terror Offenses, Including Mawlawi, Mansour
State Commissioner to the Military Court Judge Saqr Saqr on Thursday filed a lawsuit against a detainee and 10 runaways, including notorious Tripoli

turbans Shadi al-Mawlawi and Osama Mansour.

According to state-run National News Agency, they were charged with “belonging to an armed terrorist group in order to stage terrorist acts, and holing up at a Tripoli mosque with the aim of preparing bombs and bombs to target Lebanese army troops in the area.” The eleven were referred to First Military Examining Magistrate Riad Abu Ghida.

Earlier in the day, Military Examining Magistrate Nabil Wehbe issued in an indictment in the case of the August 3 bomb kaboom that killed Tripoli resident Issam al-Shaar in the al-Jinan area. Mawlawi and Mansour were also among those charged in the case. NNA said Wehbe accused “eight detainees and the three runaways Osama Mansour, Shadi al-Mawlawi and Amir Mansour of forming an armed gang with the aim of carrying out terror acts and undermining the state's authority.”

On September 12, Mansour, who leads an Islamist militia in Tripoli's Bab al-Tabbaneh, denied reports that his group had pledged allegiance to the Islamic State

Citing security reports, the TV network said Mansour's 20-member group has recently “occupied” the Omar bin Massoud Mosque in Bab al-Tabbaneh and that the myrmidon started “playing a bigger role” in the city with the beginning of the Arsal battle in the Bekaa in early August. Mansour and his group have however denied “occupying” the mosque, noting that they are present there because they are residents of the neighborhood, LBCI added.

Shadi al-Mawlawi, a runaway Islamist myrmidon and a member of Mansour's group, also appeared in LBCI's report.

“We contributed to the recent release of the five Sunni troops” who had been kidnapped by Nusra during Arsal's battle, Mawlawi told LBCI. “As for the Rafida (Shiite) troops, they have showed hostility and fought our people in (Syria's) Qusayr and Yabrud and (Sidon's) Abra. We wish they would be killed,” Mawlawi added.

Military Police Arrests Syrian Suspects in Raids North of Beirut
The military police arrested on Friday a number of Syrian suspects in raids it carried out in the Antelias areas north of Beirut.

Media reports said that the raids were carried out near the Golden Beach resort.

The security forces blocked the seaside road leading to Beirut, creating heavy traffic in the area, but it was later reopened, added the National News Agency

Later on Friday, the Army Intelligence raided Syrian refugee encampments in the northern region of Zgharta, arresting five suspects, said NNA.

It also confiscated two motorcycles in the area because their owners did not possess their legal licenses.

The army had carried out in recent months several raids throughout Lebanon in search of suspects.

Several have been arrested, many of whom are suspected of having links with terrorist groups.

Army Dismantles 50-Kilogram Bomb in Arsal
[AnNahar] The army on Friday defused an explosive device weighing around 50 kilograms in the Bekaa border town of Arsal.

The bomb was discovered as an army force was conducting an inspection patrol in the Arsal area of Ras al-Sarj, according to an army statement.

The 50-kilo explosive device was placed “in a camouflaged way inside a garbage bin,” the army said.

It noted that the bomb was set for remote detonation.

“The patrol immediately cordoned off the location and a military expert arrived and defused it as Military Police launched a probe into the incident,” the army added.

On Wednesday, a patrol for the army intelligence found three bags containing 66 kilograms of chemicals that can be used for making bombs in the Arsal area of Ain al-Shaab.

And on September 11, the army dismantled a booby-trapped car containing 100 kilograms of explosives in the same area in Arsal. The vehicle had a Syrian license plate.

Attackers had on Sep. 19 detonated a roadside bomb as an army truck passed by on a road near Arsal, killing three soldiers and wounding two others.

Militants from the Islamic State group and al-Qaida-linked al-Nusra Front overran Arsal last month and engaged in heavy battles with the army.

The fighters withdrew to Syria but took with them hostages from the military and the Internal security Forces. They have beheaded three of them.

Arsal's outskirts are still witnessing sporadic clashes between the army and the gunmen.

Lebanon has seen a string of deadly car bomb attacks linked to Syria's war, most of which were claimed by Syria-based extremist groups.

Syrian army fights for last major rebel route into Aleppo
[Al Ahram] The Syrian army clashed with bully boyz on the northern edge of Aleppo city on Friday, residents and activists said, threatening to take the last main rebel supply route into the city and trap opposition forces and civilians inside.

Although there are smaller, more indirect routes into Aleppo, taking the road would significantly reduce the rebels' ability to resupply and it would also allow the army to besiege areas of the city which fell to bully boyz two years ago.

"The road is completely closed and the regime has erected barriers," said Muhammad Bidour, a 25-year-old activist opposed to Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
. "Our comrades were there and had to take another very long road which takes hours."

Bidour said festivities were ongoing in the villages of Sifat and Dowir al-Zeitoun, around eight kilometres (5 miles) north of Aleppo.

Civilian Abdullah Qatmawi, 30, said he was unable to drive directly to Aleppo because of the blocked road. "When we arrived to the northern countryside (of Aleppo) we felt there was a problem on the road and when we arrived to Handarat there was fighting," he said.

The Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, which tracks violence in the country, said the army was not yet in control of the main road but that festivities centred around Handarat, a northern Aleppo district, had blocked the route.

"If the army can take and hold Handarat, then Aleppo will be under siege," Observatory head Rami Abdulrahman said by telephone.

Syria's civil war started with peaceful pro-democracy protests that Assad sought to crush by force. Nearly 200,000 people have been killed and the United States has formed a coalition to battle the most powerful rebel group, Islamic State

Beirut imposes curfew on Syrians
[ARABNEWS] Human Rights Watch
... During the fiscal year ended June 30, 2011, HRW received a pledge from the Foundation to Promote Open Society, of which George Soros is Chairman, for general support totaling $100,000,000. The grant is being paid in installments of $10,000,000 over ten years.Through June 30, 2013, HRW had received $30,000,000 towards the fulfillment of the pledge....
says Lebanese towns and villages have increasingly imposed curfews on Syrian refugees in the country.

The group says the curfews restrict refugees’ movements and “contribute to a climate of discriminatory and retaliatory practices against them.” The New York-based group said in a statement Friday it has identified at least 45 towns and villages across Leb that have imposed such curfews.

Leb is home to more than 1 million Syrian refugees, who are already seen by many Lebanese as a burden on the tiny country with a population of just 4.5 million people.

Attacks against Syrians, as well as curfews, have intensified since Aug. 2, when Islamic bandidos murderous Moslems crossed into Leb and captured more than 20 soldiers and coppers.
