Nine Talibs Titzup in ANSF Operations
[Tolo News] At least nine Taliban militants were killed and 13 others were injured during an operation led by the Afghan National Security Forces (ANSF) in Kohistanat district of Sar-e-Pul province on Wednesday, local officials said on Thursday.

Officials added that four ANSF soldiers were also wounded during the operations.

No civilian casualties have been reported.

The Taliban have not yet commented about the operations.

Three 'militants' killed in shootout in Ain Sokhna
[Al Ahram] Egyptian troops on Thursday killed three hard boy fighters in a shootout near the Red Sea resort of Ain Sokhna, a military source told Reuter's Aswat Masriya.

The men made their way from Sinai, a hotbed of Islamist insurgency, through mountainous and desert areas as part of a plan to travel to Cairo and Suez to target security forces, the source said.

Six hard boy suspects were tossed in the slammer
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in the firefight with assistance from rustics, the source added.

Egypt's military has been fighting an Islamist insurgency based in the border Sinai Peninsula that has worsened since the army's ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi in July 2013.

Militant attacks have mainly targetedpolice and the armed forces but have also led to civilian casualties.

Last week, eleven coppers were killed in a blast near the North Sinai town of Rafah, adjoining the Paleostinian Gazoo Strip.

The killing is the latest in rising militant attacks in the restive Sinai Peninsula
[Al Ahram] An Egyptian civilian was shot and killed by person or persons unknown Thursday, taking the number of people killed in 24 hours up to three, a security source told Aswat Masriya news website.

The source said the killing took place in Al-Arish city in the restive Sinai Peninsula.

Egypt has witnessed a wave of krazed killer attacks, mainly targeting security forces but sometimes civilians as well, since the ouster of Islamist president Mohammed Morsi last year.

Mohamed 'Bouka' Al-Araibi wounded in Benghazi airstrike
[Libya Herald] Commander of the Brega Martyr's Brigade Mohammed Al-Araibi, more commonly known as Bouka, has been injured in an Operation Dignity Arclight airstrike in Benghazi.

A source close to the Araibi family told the Libya Herald that Bouka had been seriously injured in one leg after he was hit by shrapnel during a bombing raid over Sidi Khalifa two days ago. The source said while he did know Bouka was receiving treatment, he did not know where.

The Commander of Operation Dignity's Airforce, Adam Saqr Geroushi, refuted claims that Bouka had been captured by the Karama Operation. However,
facts are stubborn; statistics are more pliable...
he said that some of Bouka's family had been negotiating with Operation Dignity through intermediaries from the Barasi tribe in Beida. Geroushi explained that many members of Bouka's family who did not share his political allegiances were seeking amnesty for the militia leader.

Geroushi said as things stood Dignity was still pursuing Bouka as an enemy of the state.

Bouka's Brega Martyrs Brigade is aligned with Benghazi's Revolutionary Shura Council and the forces ranged against Operation Dignity. A former mechanic, he rose to prominence on account of his disheveled appearance and bizarre televised rants.

In April, Bouka was implicated in an attack on the General National Congress after a ramshackle coalition of brigades opened fire on the Congress building, apparently because their chosen prime ministerial candidate Omar Al-Hassi, who has now set up his own rival government in Tripoli

Ansar withdraws from Benghazi positions as Operation Dignity forces enter city
[Libya Herald] Across Benghazi, Ansar al-Sharia
...a Salafist militia which claims it is not part of al-Qaeda, even though it works about the same and for the same ends. There are groups of the same name in Libyaand Yemen, with the Libyan versions currently most active. Tunisia's Shabaab al-Tawhid started out an Ansar al-Sharia and changed its name in early 2014. It still uses the old name now and then, probably because the stationery's not all used up and the web site hasn't expired yet...
and its allies appear to have been quietly withdrawing from a number of their positions, possibly in anticipation of a possibly imminent Operation Dignity counter-offensive.

Residents in Gwarsha, a long-held Ansar al-Sharia stronghold, told the Libya Herald that the Islamist group had abandoned its checkpoints in the area and had all but vanished, a stark contrast to their usual robust presence.

Similarly Benghazi's Revolutionary Shura Council, the body which represents the coalition of Islamist and Islamist-leaning forces in the city, has left a Ministry of Defence building near 17 February Brigade's headquarters in Garyounis. It has removed the banner proclaiming its presence, which was previously placed on the front of the building.

Operation Dignity troop movements into Benghazi have also been reported today. A large convoy, apparently part of an even larger deployment of troops, has been seen rolling into the eastern outskirts of Benghazi today unopposed.

Meanwhile,
...back at the game, the Babe headed for second base. He almost made it. Then Sheila slapped him....
reports of the arrival of 300 Tebu troops from the southeast and southwest of the country yesterday to bolster Dignity forces were underestimated, Operation Dignity Commander Adam Saqr Geroushi told this paper. He said just under 1,000 of the troops had arrived from Kufra, Jalu and other Tebu towns and villages.

Another 500 are expected according to other sources.

Two days ago Operation Dignity said it was staging a massive assault on Benghazi, offering its enemies one last chance to surrender.

Libya Dawn accused of demolishing Warshefana homes

Boko Haram Have 'Surrounded' Nigeria's Maiduguri, Say Elders
[AnNahar] Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
fighters have surrounded the northeast Nigeria
... a particularly crimson stretch of Islam's bloody border...
n city of Maiduguri and are preparing an imminent takeover, an influential regional group claimed on Thursday, calling for military reinforcements.

"They have completely surrounded the city of Maiduguri," said the Borno Elders Forum, which is made up of retired senior civilian and military officials as well as community leaders.

"It is apparent that their imminent target is to take the city of Maiduguri, the Borno state capital," they said in a statement.

Borno, Yobe and Adamawa regions have been under a state of emergency since May last year but despite the Nigerian army driving Boko Haram out of Maiduguri, thousands of people have died in the countryside and many more have been forced to flee.

"We wish to call on the federal government to urgently fortify in and around the city of Maiduguri," the elders added.

"The turbans... are nursing the ambition of attacking the city in all directions. There is credible local intelligence information to that effect."

The elders said that half of Borno state's 4.1 million population was now living in temporary accommodation in Maiduguri, where Boko Haram began as an anti-corruption movement in 2002.

The United Nations
...a formerly good idea gone bad...
says that more than 650,000 people across the northeast have fled their homes, while the United States has warned that any attack on Maiduguri could hit civilians further.

Roads and bridges have been destroyed, schools shut and the economy blighted, with Maiduguri without mains electricity for the last three months.

The elders warned of "starvation" given that subsistence farmers in the state had not been able to plant crops this year because of the chaos.

Security analysts have warned that Nigeria's government was on the brink of losing control of the northeast and Maiduguri would be a major gain in its aim at creating a hardline Islamic state.

The elders said the government needed to act, claiming the murderous Moslems were in control within reach of the city from the south and east after taking over swathes of territory elsewhere in the state.

Boko Haram recently claimed to have taken over Bama, 70 kilometers (45 miles) from Maiduguri but the military has since said it has retaken the town.

That followed a declaration by Boko Haram leader Abubakar Shekau in a video released on August 24 that another captured Borno town, Gwoza, was now part of an Islamic caliphate.

Nigeria launches air and ground attacks to reclaim town from Boko Haram
[ZEENEWS.INDIA] Kano: Nigeria`s military launched ground and air offensives against Boko Haram

to recapture the northeastern town of Michika that fell to the jihadist gunnies over the weekend, witnesses said on Wednesday.

Hundreds of troops aided by military jets have been pounding Boko Haram positions in Michika in Adamawa state since Sunday, residents of nearby towns and villages told AFP.

"We have been hearing thunderous kabooms from bombs dropped by military jets on Michika," said a Christian priest in Chibok, 20 kilometres (13 miles) from Michika.

Chibok was the scene of a mass abduction by Boko Haram of more than 200 schoolgirls in April.

"The sounds of kabooms are more intense at night when flashes of exploding bombs can be seen from Chibok," said the priest, who asked not to be named.

It has been difficult to obtain information from the remote northeastern region where Boko Haram has seized control of numerous towns and villages in recent weeks, forcing thousands to flee their homes.

"From on top of a hill outside the village we can catch glimpses of compounds in Michika being occupied by Boko Haram and the street fight with soldiers," said David Buba, a resident of Jiginlambu village, eight kilometres from Michika.

"Nigerian troops are getting an upper hand on Boko Haram who are overwhelmed by the ground and air offensives."

Another resident, Silas Ande, gave a similar account.

"We can see them (the Lion of Islams) running in all directions in confusion", said Buba. "If soldiers sustain the assaults, Michika will soon be recaptured from Boko Haram."

A huge military contingent has been deployed in Mararrabar Vimtim village, 20 kilometres outside Michika, to prevent any rebels slipping out of the town and heading towards the main commercial hub of Mubi.

There has been a mass exodus from Mubi in recent days after Boko Haram took Michika.

Security fears prompted the indefinite closure of the Adamawa State University in Mubi, according to a university statement. In October 2012, Boko Haram fighters were blamed for shooting dead at least 40 polytechnic students at their off-campus hostels in the town.

The jihadists say they want to establish an Islamic caliphate in northern Nigeria and have killed thousands since launching their campaign in 2009.

A recent upsurge in violence has seen the group seize control of large swathes of Adamawa, Borno and Yala states. The Nigerian military has been accused of failing to effectively counter the threat.

The United States last week said it was alarmed by reports that Boko Haram had captured the Borno town of Bama and the possibility of an attack on the state capital, Maiduguri, 70 kilometres away.

Nigeria deploys extra 500 troops to Adamawa, Borno
[PREMIUMTIMESNG] The Nigerian military has deployed more than 500 troops to the troubled North-East to reinforce personnel on ground in the fight against Boko Haram.

Insurgents have made rapid gains in the last two weeks capturing a number of communities in Borno and Adamawa States. The government disputes the number of towns under the control of Boko Haram.

Mike Omeri, Coordinator, National Information Centre, said Thursday that more troops have been sent to join in the fight. He made the disclosure in Abuja while giving update on the security situation in the area. He vowed that the troops would soon flush out insurgents from Gulak, Michika and Kunchinga and other communities in Adamawa, where they currently hold sway.

"As part of efforts being made to check the incursion and Boko Haram challenge, the military has continued to reinforce its presence in several challenged communities in the North-East," he said.

"Military authorities have confirmed the renewed deployment of more than 500 troops or about that to support the expedition around that area.

"We believe that with this commitment and the additional deployment, the situation will be brought under control," he said.

Mr. Omeri said contrary to media reports, the insurgents did not sack Mubi, adding that "situation report indicates that Mubi town is calm".

He said that troops including the police and other services were patrolling the town to guard against any untoward incident.

Arabia
Drone Strike Kills 4 Qaida Suspects in Yemen
[AnNahar] A drone strike in Yemen's south killed four al-Qaeda suspects Thursday, a local government official told Agence La Belle France-Presse.

The United States is the only country operating drones over Yemen, but U.S. officials rarely acknowledge the covert program.

"Four al-Qaeda bully boyz were killed when a drone strike hit their vehicle" in Shabwa province, the source said on condition of anonymity.

No details were immediately available on the identities of the suspects.

In April, a U.S.-Yemeni aerial campaign killed at least 68 al-Qaeda krazed killers, as part of efforts to head off attacks by the jihadist network's regional affiliate.

Later that month, Yemeni troops launched a ground offensive against jihadists in the southern Shabwa province and neighboring Abyan

The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...

Cazeneuve described Fares as a "particularly dangerous individual close to jihadist terrorist movements," including the Islamic State and Al-Qaeda's Syrian affiliate Al-Nusra.

James Foley's mother 'appalled' by U.S. government handling of case
[CNN] The mother of James Foley -- an American journalist beheaded by ISIS militants -- said she is "embarrassed and appalled" by how the U.S. government dealt with her son's case, telling CNN that officials even suggested family members could be charged if they raised ransom to free him.

"I think our efforts to get Jim freed were an annoyance" to the U.S. government, Diane Foley told CNN's Anderson Cooper in an interview that aired Thursday. "It didn't seem to be in (U.S.) strategic interest, if you will."

At least THREE young Minnesota women have traveled to Syria to aid ISIS
[DAILYMAIL.CO.UK] At least three young Minnesota women are now believed to have traveled to Syria to give aid to the ISIS terror group responsible for the brutal beheadings of American journalists, MailOnline has learned.
Another pair of jailbait jihad hookers.
The trio left some three weeks ago, Omar Jamal, a leader of the Somali community in the state capital, St. Paul, tells MailOnline. They said they intended to become nurses tending to fighters injured in ISIS' violent surge in Syria and Iraq.

The news comes as 19-year-old suburban Denver woman Shannon Conley who federal authorities say intended to wage jihad has pleaded guilty to trying to help the Islamic State murderous Moslem group in Syria.

Abroad, police fear two maidens of tender years who fled Austria are inspiring other teenagers to join Islamic State ranks after they successfully fled the country saying they were going to Syria.

Samra Kesinovic was aged just 16 and her friend Sabina Selimovic 15 when the two vanished this year from their homes in the Austrian capital Vienna.

The case of one of the Minnesota girls, a 19-year-old, has already been widely reported, after the girl's family called the FBI, but Jamal said he believes at least two more girls have gone to the Middle East hotspot.

'Their identity is not known because their families have not contacted the authorities,' said Jamal. 'They have gone to Syria but as there are no official reports of them we do not know who they are.'

The shocking new revelation comes as MailOnline can reveal that the FBI has subpoenaed the 19-year-old girl's family to appear before a Grand Jury later this month, as authorities attempt to discover who bought her ticket, gave her money and provided her with a false passport.

There is no suggestion that the family is under criminal investigation, said one law enforcement source with knowledge of the subpoena.

'They are looking for evidence on exactly what the family knows,' said the source. Included in the subpoena is a demand for cell phone records as the girl called her brother from Turkey and later, after she crossed the border, from Syria.

IS Gunmen Kidnap 20 Iraqi Villagers
[AnNahar] Islamic State jihadists kidnapped Thursday 20 people in a northern Iraqi village suspected of forming a local group to fight them, a security official and witnesses said.

The kidnappings were carried out in Kirkuk province by dozens of fighters from IS, which led a major offensive that overran large areas of Iraq in June.

Militants kidnapped 50 people from a second village in Kirkuk province last week after residents burned one of their positions and their flag, but released them several days later.

According to rights group Amnesia Amnesty International, IS kidnapped thousands of civilians as it overran minority-populated northern villages last month.

Amnesty has accused IS of "systematic ethnic cleansing," including mass killings, of ethnic and religious minorities in Iraq.

On Wednesday, US President Barack Obama

outlined a strategy for combating IS, pledging expanded air strikes, training and other assistance to Iraq.

Seconds later, another boom-mobile kaboom near the market killed 14 people and maimed 35 others.

Elsewhere, a bomber rammed his explosives-laden car into a police checkpoint in a Shia neighborhood in southern Baghdad, killing five officers.

ISIL making a statement? These people are really messed up. Kerry fails to generate much excitement anywhere else that he goes.

Southeast Asia
Two Philippine Troops Killed in Clash with Muslim Rebels
[AnNahar] Two Philippines soldiers and an unknown number of guerrillas opposed to the government's peace deal with the country's largest Moslem rebel group were killed in a clash Thursday, the military said.

Fighting broke out in the south a day after President Benigno Aquino asked Congress to pass a Moslem autonomy law for the region, a key step to ending a decades-old rebellion that has claimed tens of thousands of lives.

About 20 BIFF rebels opened fire on a military detachment late Wednesday, then attacked an army unit sent out to confront them early Thursday, said Major-General Edmundo Pangilinan, an army commander on the major southern island of Mindanao where the Bangsamoro Islamic Freedom Fighters (BIFF) operates.

The rebels killed two soldiers and maimed six others, he told news hounds by telephone.

He said residents recounted to the military seeing up to 10 rebels dead in Thursday's two-hour gunbattle, though no guerrilla bodies were recovered.

If the corpse count is accurate, it would be the deadliest clash in Mindanao involving the BIFF since July, when 17 rebels and a soldier were killed in a single day.

The BIFF split from the main Moslem rebel group, the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), in 2008.

The 10,000-strong MILF signed a peace agreement with the Aquino government in March with the aim of creating an autonomous region for Moslem-dominated areas in the south of the largely Catholic nation.

However the BIFF, which is believed to have just a few hundred fighters, has rejected the agreement and vowed to fight on for a separate Islamic state in the southern Philippines.

Last month the BIFF pledged allegiance to the Islamic State, hard boy jihadists who now control large swathes of Iraq and Syria.

The MILF has condemned the IS actions and vowed to stop the spread of the group's "virus" into the Southeast Asian nation.

6 Syrians Arrested in Koura as Army Raids Sidon Refugee Compounds
[AnNahar] Six Syrian suspects were placed in durance vile
... anything you say can and will be used against you, whether you say it or not...
Thursday at places inhabited by Syrian refugees in the northern district of Koura, state-run National News Agency reported.

The six men were apprehended in the towns of Bdibba, Aaba, Bsarma and Kfarqahel, NNA said, adding that they have have referred to the relevant judicial authorities.

In the evening, the agency said the army raided the Abra and al-Alayli Syrian refugee compounds in the southern city of Sidon without arresting anyone.

It also said troops carried out raids in the Keserwan area of Faraya "in search for runaways" and inspected "suspicious locations," without mentioning if the development has to do with Syrian refugees.

On Wednesday, a number of Syrian refugees were arrested during army raids in the southern Jezzine region.

There has been growing resentment by Lebanese citizens against Syrian refugees after Islamist hard boyz from the Islamic State group and al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front kidnapped in August a number of soldiers and coppers from the northeastern town of Arsal while withdrawing from the village after fierce festivities with the Lebanese army.

Hosting more than 1.1 million Syrians fleeing their country's three-year war, Leb is home to the highest number of Syrian refugees in the region, and also to the highest refugee population per capita in the world.

Army Defuses 100-Kg Car Bomb in Arsal's Ain al-Shaab
[AnNahar] The army on Thursday dismantled a booby-trapped car containing 100 kilograms of explosives in the Arsal area of Ain al-Shaab.

"Around 11:30 am, army forces discovered a suspicious Kia car with a Syrian plate that was parked on the side of the road in the Arsal area of Ain al-Shaab," the Army Command said in a statement.

"An army unit cordoned off the site and inspected the aforementioned car, which turned out to contain 100 kilograms of explosives planted inside metallic boxes and connected to wires and electric fuses," the army added, noting that the bomb was active.

"A military expert arrived on the scene and defused it as a probe was launched into the case," the army said.

Media reports had earlier said the car was found in the the Wadi Hmeid area in Arsal's outskirts.

Its discovery came after the Lebanese army targeted overnight the positions of jihadists in Arsal's outskirts, reports said.

Battles also raged between the Syrian army and gunnies on the other side of the border, they added.

Militants from the Islamic State group and al-Qaeda-linked al-Nusra Front overran Arsal last month and engaged in heavy battles with the Lebanese army.

The fighters withdrew to Syria but took with them hostages from the military and the Internal security Forces. They have beheaded two of them.

Leb has seen a string of deadly car kabooms linked to Syria's war, claimed by bad boys.

Syrian regime air raids kill 28
[Al Ahram] Air strikes by Syrian warplanes killed at least 28 people Thursday, including 11 civilians in a raid on Islamic State (IS) jihadists, a monitoring group said.

"Warplanes carried out six raids on Thursday against Al-Bab" in the north of the country, the Britannia-based Syrian Observatory for Human Rights said.

"Eleven people were killed, including women and kiddies, and 17 were maimed when fighters (jets) fired rockets into a crowded area near a market in the town," southeast of Aleppo city.

IS has been pulling fighters out of the area, with some of its commanders saying the move was in case of Syrian army bombardment and possible American air strikes.

US President Barack Obama
I inhaled. That was the point...
said Wednesday he had ordered the American military to expand its operations against IS, which has seized a swathe of Iraq and Syria and committed horrifying atrocities.

"Our objective is clear: we will degrade, and ultimately destroy, ISIL through a comprehensive and sustained counter-terrorism strategy," Obama said, using an alternative acronym for the group.

"I will not hesitate to take action against ISIL in Syria, as well as Iraq."

Elsewhere Thursday, air strikes on rebel-held Douma near Damascus killed 17 people, including four children, Observatory chief Rami Abdel Rahman said.

Douma, north of the capital, has been under siege for more than a year.

Fighting at Marea north of Aleppo Thursday killed four rebels from a group holding the area and 11 IS fighters seeking to seize it, the Observatory said.

And in the central province of Hama, the Observatory said regime forces supported by Iranian officers retook a large part of the Halfaya area from rebels and jihadists of the Al-Qaeda-linked Al-Nusra Front.

Gunfire Targets Syrian Camps in al-Qaa, Tyre as Borj al-Shamali Municipality Denies Expelling Refugees
All is not sweetness and light in Lebanon.
[AnNahar] Two Syrians were maimed Wednesday evening when unknown gunnies opened fire from a car on a Syrian refugee camp in the Bekaa border town of al-Qaa, state-run National News Agency reported.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shattered spaceship, Fffflirgoll the Arcturan slithered stealthily toward the control room, where the humans had barricaded themselves...
MTV said gunfire targeted another Syrian refugee camp in the southern region of Tyre, adding that no casualties were reported.

NNA had reported that the army "carried out several raids this aftermoon in the (southern) Jezzine region, arresting a number of Syrian refugees."

Earlier on Wednesday, head of Borj el-Shamali municipality Ali Deeb denied that Syrian refugee tents were removed from an unofficial camp in the Tyre district town.

"The reports are false and inaccurate," Deeb told NNA two days after the municipality gave Syrian refugees a 48-hour ultimatum to evacuate their tents and leave the town "or suffer the consequences."

He pointed out that the municipality agreed with the Syrian refugees that they should reside in their places of work to prevent any assaults against them.

However,
a lie repeated often enough remains a lie...
Deeb rejected any attacks "against our brothers the Syrians."

There are around 200 tents in the town.

There has been growing resentment by the Lebanese people against Syrian refugees after Islamist turbans from the Islamic State group and al-Qaeda-affiliated al-Nusra Front kidnapped in August a number of soldiers and coppers from the northeastern town of Arsal while withdrawing from the village after fierce festivities with the Lebanese army.

The turbans have beheaded two of the captives, sparking angry protests by their families, who have blocked roads and staged demonstrations throughout Leb.

Tents housing Syrian refugees in encampments in Beirut's southern suburb neighborhoods of al-Lailaki and Hay al-Sellom were torched after news emerged on the beheading.

Hosting more than 1.1 million Syrians fleeing their country's three-year war, Leb is home to the highest number of Syrian refugees in the region, and also to the highest refugee population per capita in the world.
