Shaboobs: we will fight in Kenya
Somalia’s Al-Qaeda linked Shabaab terrorists vowed to move their war to neighbouring Kenya, one of the top terrorist commanders said in broadcast urging fighters to launch attacks.

“The war will be shifting to Kenya, if they kill a Somali girl we kill a Kenyan girl,” Fuad Mohamed Khalaf, one of the Shabaab’s most senior terrorists commanders, said in a radio broadcast.

His words follow a suspected grenade blast near a mosque that wounded 11 people in the eastern Kenyan town of Garissa on Tuesday, close to the border with Somalia, police and disaster officials said. The attack happened a day after suspected Somalia al Shabaab terrorists militants killed at least 12 people in northern Kenya’s Mandera County in an ambush.

Kenyan warplanes have been targeting al Shabaab positions in Somalia over the past days, as the country pursues the terrorists militants who have carried out a series of gun, bomb and grenade attacks on its territory. It sent in troops in 2011.

Police spokesman Masoud Mwinyi said one of the 11 wounded was in a serious condition but the rest were out of danger. A second grenade failed to detonate, he said.

Militias stream into Libyan capital, Tripoli
[Iran Press TV] Libya's militia forces have poured into the capital, Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
, amid a standoff with forces loyal to renegade General Khalifa Haftar.

The militias, known as Libya Central Shield, are composed of groups from the northwestern city of Misrata, and are under the command of the country's chief of staff, who answers to parliament.

A power struggle has broken out between rival bad boy groups who are flexing muscles against each other in the capital Tripoli.

On Thursday, Libya's government called on all forces of Evil in Tripoli to withdraw from the city.

The government has also proposed an initiative to save the country from plunging into civil war.

In an open letter published on the government's website, Tripoli called on the parliament to "take a recess after the vote on the 2014 budget and until new parliamentary elections" are held within three months.

On Sunday, forces loyal to Haftar stormed the parliament building in the heart of Tripoli. They also launched an air operation against bad boy hideouts in Benghazi on May 16.

Libyan authorities accused Haftar of trying to mount a coup.

In a joint statement released on May 17, the army, government and parliament warned that the May 16 raid is considered "an action outside state legitimacy and a coup d'état."

#3  A good read.

" One motivation for Hiftar was the growing strength of Islamic terrorist groups. Islamic conservatives, radicals and terrorists were well enough organized to prevent the GNC (General National Congress) from creating a new government that controlled the entire country. The Islamic politicians were a minority in the GNC but very active and disruptive. The GNC was originally formed in mid-2012 to create a new constitution for the country to vote on and rule until that was done. At the end of 2013 the deadlocked GNC extended its power for another year. The separatist activity in the east prevented any national vote and that had to be dealt with before a constitution could be completed and approved. The various factions in the GNC could not agree on much, although there was a consensus that the new constitution would use Islamic (Sharia) law. This was an effort to placate the many Islamic conservative groups. This made local Christians (native Copts, who have been Christian and present for 2,000 years and are five percent of the population) nervous.

The GNC is now being defended by Islamic radical and terrorist militias and some tribal and more secular groups. In Tripoli the GNC has long depended on the LROR (Libyan Revolutionary Operations Room) militia coalition to defend it against hostile militias. The GNC also has the support of most Islamic radical groups, the largest of which is Ansar al Sharia in Benghazi. This group was responsible for the 2012 attack that killed the American ambassador. Many of the militias in Misrata (east of Tripoli) militias support GNC, but many back Hiftar or are neutral. "

Army bombs insurgents' camps in Bauchi
[Nigerian Tribune] IN a move aimed at tackling bully boyz in the country at all fronts, the Nigerian Army, on Thursday, was reported to have bombed some Death Eaters' camps located in some parts of Bauchi State.

There have been an upsurge in the activities of unknown gunnies believed in some quarters to be bully boyz in the state in recent times, with series of kidnappings, particularly in the Darazo axis of the state.

A former member of the House of Representatives, Honourable Samaila Ahmed, was kidnapped in his resident in Darazo, the headquarters of Darazo Local Government area of the state, while three polio

workers were also kidnapped in the area.

The recent activities of gunnies in the state culminated in the burning down of some buildings at Government Girls' Secondary School, Yana, the headquarters of Shira Local Government Area of Bauchi State, in which a five-year-old girl was burnt to death about a month ago.

Only Wednesday last week, some gunnies went on the rampage, burning down two primary schools in Darazo Local Government Area of the state, Shadarki Primary School and Yelwan Darazo Primary School respectively and an MTN telecommunications mast, though no life was lost in the attack.

Nigerian Tribune learnt that a sizeable number of gunnies suspected to be members of the dreaded Boko Haram

sect had been operating in the Balmo forests in Darazo, Burra in Ningi Local Government Area, Soro in Ganjuwa Local Government Area and Yuga forests between Zara-Miya, while another camp was believed to exist around the Bauchi --Gombe border in Alkaleri.

It was gathered from locals in the areas and security sources that the army invaded the camps and bombed them, with a view to dislodging bully boyz camped there.

It was further learnt from the locals that as early as 6.00 a.m., they started hearing loud sounds of explosives from the direction of the forest, where the bully boyz camps were reportedly located.

They further informed that shortly after the sound of the kabooms went down, they saw a military aircraft with Nigerian flag hovering over the areas.

A reliable security source in the state confirmed that the army had started operation in the forest, but did not give details, adding, however, that the exercise was carried out without creating panic among the inhabitants of the areas.

Meanwhile,
...back at the desert island, Bert was realizing to his horror that he'd had only one bottle for one message, and he'd forgotten to include a return address...
as of the time of filing this report, the Nigerian Tribune gathered that after bombing the camps, the military was carrying out mop up operation of the areas.

Arabia
Five Civilians Killed as Yemen Battles 'Qaida'
[An Nahar] A shell smashed into a vehicle and killed five civilians on Thursday during festivities between Yemen's army and Al-Qaeda suspects in the country's restive south, witnesses said.

The incident occurred near Al-Saeed, an Al-Qaeda stronghold in Shabwa province, destroying the vehicle and killing all five people on board, the same sources said.

They identified the victims as members of the powerful Shabwa-based Awaliq tribe, from which U.S.-born Al-Qaeda holy man Anwar al-Awlaqi, killed in a U.S. air strike in September 2011, hails.

One witness said the "echo of the sound made by the shelling came from an army position", as another spoke of a "mistake" by troops.

A tribal source also said "the army is responsible for firing at the car".

But a military official denied the accusations, and blamed Al-Qaeda.

"Al-Qaeda elements wanted to attack an army vehicle but their shells hit a civilian car," he told AFP.

The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. China-Japan-Koreas
Koreas exchange fire near disputed sea boundary
North and South Korean warships exchanged artillery fire Thursday in disputed waters off the western coast, South Korean military officials said, in the latest sign of rising animosity between the bitter rivals in recent weeks.

Officials from the South's Joint Chiefs of Staff and Defense Ministry said a South Korean navy ship was engaged in a routine patrol near the countries' disputed maritime boundary in the Yellow Sea when a North Korean navy ship fired two artillery shells. The shells did not hit the South Korean ship and fell in waters near it, they said.

The South Korean ship then fired several artillery rounds in waters near the North Korean ship which also did not hit it, said the officials, who spoke on condition of anonymity because of office rules.

South Korea was trying to determine if the North Korean ship had attempted to hit the South Korean vessel but missed, or if the shells were not meant to hit the ship.

Officials said that residents on the frontline Yeonpyeong Island were evacuated to shelters, and fishing ships in the area were ordered to return to ports. In 2010, North Korea fired artillery at the island, killing two civilians and two marines.

Both Koreas regularly conduct artillery drills in the disputed waters. The sea boundary is not clearly marked, and the area has been the scene of three bloody naval skirmishes between the rival Koreas since 1999. North Korea has in recent weeks conducted a string of artillery drills and missile tests and has unleashed a torrent of racist and sexist rhetoric at the leaders of the U.S. and South Korea.

On Tuesday, South Korean navy ships fired warning shots to repel three North Korean warships that briefly violated the disputed sea boundary. On Wednesday, North Korea's military vowed to retaliate.

North Korean military ships and fishing boats have routinely intruded into South Korean-controlled waters that the North doesn't recognize. The Yellow Sea boundary was unilaterally drawn by the U.S.-led U.N. Command at the end of the 1950-53 Korean War.

31 Dead in Chinese Market Attack
Thirty-one people are dead and more than 90 injured after attackers drove their cars into an open-air market in China and hurled explosives out the windows.

The attack occurred at 7.50am local time in the city of Urumqi, the capital of the volatile Xinjiang region, and has been described as a 'serious violent terrorist incident' by China's Ministry of Public Security. Two 4x4 vehicles rammed into shoppers in an open market, Xinhua news agency reported, citing witness reports.

Photos posted on social media purportedly of the blast, but not verified by Reuters, showed a column of smoke and chaos at the market, with bloodied people lying on the tree-lined road near small stands selling fruit, vegetables and eggs.Other photos showed riot police on the scene and bodies lying amid flames. Produce and debris were scattered across the street.

President Xi Jinping said police would 'step up patrols and security controls over possible terrorist targets and prevent ripple effects', Xinhua reported. Xi vowed to 'severely punish terrorists'.

A working group led by Guo Shengkun, China's Minister of Public Security, was dispatched to the region to investigate.

Principal of local school shot dead
[DAWN] RAWALPINDI: A school principal was rubbed out while his brother-in-law was injured in an alleged murder incident on Tulsa Road on Wednesday night.

Mufti Imran Farooq, who served as principal of Iqra School on Mubarak Lane, Adiala Road, was going to a filtration plant with his brother-in-law Musarat Hussain in his car.

He was intercepted by two men on a cycle of violence, who opened fire.

As a result, Mufti Imran was struck down in his prime while Musarat Hussain received a bullet injury to his leg.

The dear departed and the injured were shifted to District Headquarters Hospital where Musarat is said to be in stable, pH balanced condition.

"He was targeted but it is yet to be established whether it was an outcome of an enmity or a sectarian killing," City Police Officer (CPO) Humayun Bashir Tarar told Dawn.

He further said the police were investigating whether the dear departed had any affiliation with a religious organization or was it an outcome of an old enmity.

Private schools stay closed in Turbat, Panjgur after threats by extremists
[DAWN] A grand jirga will be held in Panjgur on Thursday to deliberate on the closure of private schools and English language centres after threats hurled by a religious group.

The jirga will be attended by people of all walks of life, including political and religious leaders, members of civil society, teachers, elders and women.

"The jirga will discuss the issue in detail and announce future line of action in view of threats being hurled by (a hitherto) unknown religious organization to owners and managements of private schools," Zahir Hussain Baloch, an educationist running a private school in Panjgur, told Dawn.

All private schools and English language centres have been closed in Turbat in Panjgur because owners are receiving threats from an hard boy organization called "Tenzeem Islami-al-Furqan".

"The organization is asking owners to stop educating girls at their institutions. We had no other option but to close our schools and language centres," he said.

Last batch of Syria's chemical weapons packed: OPCW
[Iran Press TV] The Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons (OPCW) says the last batch of Syria's chemical weapons has been packed and will be taken out of the country as soon as the security situation permits.

"Some 100 metric tons of chemicals, or nearly eight percent of Syria's declared stockpile, remain at a single site," OPCW Director General Ahmet Uzumcu said on Thursday, adding, "They have been packed and are ready for transportation."

Syria, which has already shipped out 92 percent of its chemical weapons, has agreed to hand over its entire chemical arsenal by June 30, 2014.

"Syrian authorities have informed that they cannot yet be moved from the storage site due to the security situation in the area," Uzumcu added.
