Afghanistan
Bomb Kills Family of Nine in Afghanistan
[An Nahar] A roadside kaboom has killed nine members of a single family in western Afghanistan, officials said Wednesday, in the latest violence as U.S.-led troops prepare to leave the country after 13 years.

The family was travelling in the Shindand district of Herat
...a venerable old Persian-speaking city in western Afghanistan, populated mostly by Tadjiks, which is why it's not as blood-soaked as areas controlled by Pashtuns...
province late on Tuesday when explosives destroyed their vehicle, Abdul Hameed Noori, the district chief, told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"Nine members of the family including two women, five children and two men were killed on the spot," he said.

Two people were maimed and taken to a nearby hospital.

Sameh Wafa, a provincial front man, confirmed the incident to AFP.

Roadside bombs are commonly used by Taliban Death Eaters to target Afghan and foreign forces but often cause injuries to civilians.

Attack that kill civilians often go unclaimed and there was no immediate claim of responsibility for Tuesday's deaths.

#1  Given that it's western Afghanistan, one might wonder if it could be of an inter-family feud.

Kenya Detains Two Somalis Suspected in Mombasa Attack
A Kenyan court ordered two Somali men held in custody for 10 days based on police suspicions that they were involved in twin explosions in the port city of Mombasa that killed four people and injured scores injured in last weekend.

Investigators asked the court to detain the two Somalis to complete investigations, pending any formal charges. Another 102 people arrested in police operations that followed the weekend attacks have since been freed.

Attackers threw a bomb at passengers at a bus station while a separate blast damaged a luxury hotel in the coastal city. Both incidents were on Saturday, and were followed a day later by two bus bombings in the capital Nairobi that killed three people.

There was no immediate claim of responsibility but in the past Kenya has blamed similar attacks on al Qaeda-linked Somali group al Shabaab, which killed at least 67 people at the Westgate shopping mall in Nairobi in September.

Deputy President William Ruto on Monday defended his government against accusations it had not done enough to secure the nation after the Westgate attack saying Kenyan defense forces will stay in Somalia until they clear Al-Shabaab militant group.

Hundreds Killed in Boko Haram Attack in Nigeria Border Town
[An Nahar] An attack by Boko Haram
... not to be confused with Procol Harum, Harum Scarum, possibly to be confused with Helter Skelter. The Nigerian version of al-Qaeda and the Taliban rolled together and flavored with a smigeon of distinctly Subsaharan ignorance and brutality...
Islamists in a northeastern Nigerian town on the Cameroon border has killed hundreds of people, a local senator and witnesses said Wednesday.

Senator Ahmed Zanna added that the town of Gamboru Ngala had been left unguarded because the soldiers based there to protect the population had been redeployed north towards Lake Chad in an effort to rescue more than 200 schoolgirls kidnapped by Boko Haram on April 14.

Gunmen riding in armored vehicles and on cycle of violences stormed the town on Monday and razed much of the area.

Residents said survivors fled when the attack began, with the Death Eaters firing on civilians as they tried to run to safety into Cameroon.

Casualty figures had remained unclear in the hours after the attack because the town had been overrun by krazed killer fighters and it was not possible to return to assess the loss of life, witnesses had previously told Agence La Belle France Presse.

"I have been in constant touch with Gamboru (Ngala)," Zanna said.

"From information reaching me from the town, the corpse count from the attack is around 300," he added.

"All economic and business centers have been burnt. The market in the town which attracts traders from all over the area...has been completely burnt," he added.

The senator's claim that the military had been redeployed from the town in search of the missing girls could not be immediately confirmed by the military, which has not responded to repeated calls and text messages seeking comment on the attack.

The mass abduction has shocked Nigerians and sparked global outrage.

The United States has sent military experts to Nigeria to help rescue the hostages.

Speaking by phone from Gamboru Ngala, resident Musa Abba told AFP that the town was "littered with more than 100 dead bodies," adding that the search was continuing and the toll may rise.

Another resident, Ibrahim Bukar put the corpse count closer to 300.

Gamboru Ngala falls in Borno state, Boko Haram's home base and where the Death Eaters have killed thousands in a five-year uprising aimed at creating a strict Islamic state in mainly Mohammedan northern Nigeria.

Foreign Qaida Suspects Killed in Yemen Army Offensive
[An Nahar] An Algerian, a Pak, and a Saudi are among Al-Qaeda suspects killed in an offensive against snuffies in southern Yemen, the army said Wednesday.

"The body of Abu Ayub al-Jazairi, a local (Algerian) leader of Al-Qaeda, was found in Wadi Dhiqa," a valley located between the southern provinces of Shabwa and Abyan
...a governorate of Yemen. The region was a base to the Aden-Abyan Islamic Army terrorist group until it dropped the name and joined al-Qaeda. Its capital is Zinjibar. In March 2011, al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula declared the governate an Islamic Emirate after seizing control of the region. The New York Times fastidiously reported that those in control, while Islamic hard boyz, are not in fact al-Qaeda, but something else that looks, tastes, smells, and acts the same. Yemeni government forces launched an effort to re-establish control of the region when President-for-Life Saleh was tossed and the carnage continues...
, the ministry said on its 26sep.net website.

"Another local chief, (Pak) Nakhii, aka Mikassa, was killed by our brave soldiers, as well as another, named Abu Dojana (a Saudi)," the ministry said, adding that both had died in Shabwa.

The offensive began on April 29 in the country's rugged southern and central provinces, where a wave of U.S. drone strikes killed scores of suspected Al-Qaeda forces of Evil last month.

Several foreigners suspected of membership in the network have been killed in the offensive, with authorities also speaking of Afghans, Somalis and Chechens.

The dead include two foreign commanders. One is Abu Islam al-Shishani, who had Chechen links, and Abu Muslim al-Uzbeki, who hailed from Uzbekistan.

So far, 75 forces of Evil and more than 24 soldiers have been killed in the latest operations, according to an AFP tally based on official figures.

Al-Qaeda in the Arabian Peninsula -- formed out of a merger of the network's Yemeni and Saudi branches -- has denied President Abdrabuh Mansur Hadi's allegations that 70 percent of its fighters are foreigners.

AQAP has been linked to a number of failed terror plots against the United States, and its leader Nasser al-Wuhayshi recently appeared in a rare video in which he vowed to attack Western "crusaders" wherever they are.

Yemen Police Shoot Dead Killer of Frenchman
[An Nahar] Yemeni security forces on Wednesday rubbed out the head of the "terror cell" behind the killing of a Frenchie in Sanaa earlier this week, the country's supreme security committee said.

Wael Abdullah Masood al-Waeli, "who supervised the killing of the French citizen," was killed in a clash with security forces in the capital, the committee said.

Another member of the cell was also rubbed out while a third was tossed in the clink
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
, it said, according to Saba state news agency.

The Frenchie was killed on Monday and another was maimed when gunnies shot up their car in Sanaa's diplomatic district. Both worked for a private security firm that officials said was guarding the EU delegation in Yemen.

Yemen's top security body said police had traced Waeli and other gunnies on Tuesday to a house in Sanaa, but they refrained from storming the hideout "because there were women and kiddies."

Police closed in on the gunnies when they left the house, but fighting erupted as the suspects resisted arrest, it said.

Waeli was also behind the kidnapping of a Dutch journalist and his wife, who were held captive for six months before they were released in December.

Oil tankers damaged in three blasts
[DAWN] KARACHI: Three oil tankers were badly damaged in as many blasts at the Keamari oil tankers terminal and Shershah on Tuesday, according to police.

No casualty was reported in the blasts which were carried out by improvised bombs (IEDs) attached to the oil tankers, the officials said.

The IEDs -- each weighing 600 grams -- along with a magnet were attached to a 40,000-litre-fuel-carrying tanker parked at a shed run by Shell and a 48,000-litre-fuel-carrying tanker of Total in the Keamari area, said City SSP Sheraz Nazeer.

Four injured in Peshawar blast
[DAWN] An kaboom at Beautiful Downtown Peshawar
...capital of Khyber Pakhtunkhwa (formerly known as the North-West Frontier Province), administrative and economic hub for the Federally Administered Tribal Areas of Pakistan. Peshawar is situated near the eastern end of the Khyber Pass, convenient to the Pak-Afghan border. Peshawar has evolved into one of Pakistan's most ethnically and linguistically diverse cities, which means lots of gunfire.
's Mina Bazar on Wednesday, has left at least four people injured including a child, said police officials.

The bomb disposal squad AIG Shafqat Malik said that three hundred grams of explosives was used in a timer device.

The station house officer of Kotwali cop shoppe Ihsan Marwat said the bomb was planted to target a cold drinks shop.

He said the same shop had been targeted in 2013 and appears to be the result of a personal enmity, although they are probing the incident.

Mina Bazar has been the target of a number of kabooms, the most deadliest of which was on 28 October 2009, in which a boom-mobile left 137 people dead and over 200 others injured.

Rights advocate Rashid Rehman Khan gunned down in Multan
[DAWN] MULTAN: Human Rights Advocate Rashid Rehman Khan was bumped off by unidentified attackers in Multan, DawnNews reported late on Wednesday night.

Initial reports suggest that Khan was targeted by two gunnies inside his office at Kachehri Chowk.

Sources told Dawn.com that two clean-shaven young men barged into Advocate Khan's office and shot him dead. They also injured his two lawyer friends, identified as Nadeem Parwaz and Afzal.

Injured were taken to Nishtar Medical Center where Parwaz is said to be in a critical condition.

"Armed gunnies stormed the chamber of Rashid Rehman and started indiscriminate firing on Wednesday evening, injuring Rehman and two of his associates present there," senior police official Zulfiqar Ali told AFP.

Advocate Rashid Rehman Khan was a coordinator for the Human Rights Commission of Pakistain (HRCP). The senior lawyer was defending a university lecturer accused of blasphemy and had complained that he had been receiving threats on his life.

The HRCP had voiced serious concern over the threats extended to Khan.

The Supreme Court advocate had submitted an application with the District Bar Association president Sher Zaman Qureshi last month, saying he was threatened by two lawyers and two other persons who asked him not to appear in the case he was representing.

Rehman was representing Junaid Hafeez, a lecturer at Bahauddin Zakariya University.

Hafeez was known for his liberal views at the university and the case of blasphemy was registered after pressure from right-wing student groups, said a student, who wished not to be named.

Hamas Executes Two 'Collaborators' with Israel in Gaza
[An Nahar] Authorities in the Hamas, always the voice of sweet reason,-run Gazoo Strip on Thursday executed two Paleostinians for allegedly collaborating with Israel, the territory's interior ministry said.

"Two collaborators with the Israeli occupation, condemned to death for having given information leading to the martyrdom of two citizens, have been executed," a front man told Agence La Belle France Presse.

He said one of the men, aged 40 and identified by the initials ZR, was shot and the other, AK, aged 30, was hanged in a different location.

The last execution in Gazoo, in October, was of a man found guilty of murder.

Israeli security forces use Paleostinian informers to thwart attacks and assist in the liquidation of top krazed killers. Most Paleostinians view them as traitors.

Under Paleostinian law, collaboration with Israel, murder and drug trafficking are all punishable by death.

Syria-Lebanon-Iran
Militants break agreement, suspend evacuation of Homs
[Iran Press TV] The evacuation of foreign-backed gunnies from the strategic Syrian Old City of Homs has been suspended after gunnies broke an agreement with Damascus.

The evacuation was suspended on Wednesday after the gunnies fired rockets into the Shia towns of Nubl and al-Zahraa, violating the agreement.

Under the deal, the gunnies were to lift siege of the two northern towns. Hundreds of gunnies have already left the city under the deal.

The agreement was reached between the gunnies and the Syrian government on May 4.

More than 2,200 people, mostly myrmidons, are supposed to evacuate the flashpoint city and move to myrmidon-held areas in the north of Homs Province, located in the central western part of Syria.

It would bring almost all major districts of the city under the control of government forces. As part of the truce, the gunnies are to free about 70 government soldiers.

Bekaa Gunmen Clash over 'Kidnapping' Operations
[An Nahar] The army intelligence has incarcerated
I ain't sayin' nuttin' widdout me mout'piece!
two suspects after finding weapons in their vehicle in the eastern Bekaa valley, the state-run National News Agency reported on Wednesday.

NNA said Hussein al-Hujairi and Hilal Amoun were detained at a checkpoint in the north Bekaa town of Hrabta.

The members of the checkpoint that lies in Baalbek district found arms, ammunition and rockets in the Volvo they were riding, it added.

Both suspects hail from the northeastern border town of Arsal, whose residents back the rebels fighting Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...

The town, which is a major rebel supply route, has suffered repeated strikes by the Syrian air force, some of them deadly.

Also in the Bekaa, the NNA reported in the afternoon that two people were maimed in armed festivities between gunnies in the al-Masyada region in the Arsal plains.

The agency said the festivities were caused by feuds over kidnapping and blackmailing operations.

The injured men were identified as Nayef Abdullah Audeh, and another from the Ammoun family.

The first was transferred to Dar al-Amal University Hospital in Douris for treatment, and the second to Arsal's field hospital, added the NNA.

Rocket Hits Bekaa Town of Ain al-Jawzeh, 'Free Sunnis' Claim Attack
[An Nahar] A rocket landed Wednesday in a town in northern Bekaa, causing material damage, as the shadowy Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade grabbed credit for the shelling.

"A rocket fell on the town of Ain al-Jawzeh between Hourtaala and Brital, near the house of Samir Darwish," state-run National News Agency reported.

MTV said the projectile was fired from the Syrian side of the border, but NNA noted that it was launched from "the Eastern Mountain Range."

Meanwhile,
...back at the barn, Bossy's udder had begun to ache...
al-Manar TV said "several rockets" landed between the two towns.

The so-called Free Sunnis of Baalbek Brigade swiftly claimed the attack, saying it was "in retaliation to the Assad regime's shelling of the outskirts of the town of Tufail."

The Brigade said the rocket fire was targeted against the town of Hourtaala.

The elusive group had claimed many assaults against Shiite towns in the Bekaa and the Lebanese Army.

Syria Rebels Evacuate 'Capital of Revolution' Homs
[An Nahar] The evacuation of rebel-held parts of Syria's Homs began Wednesday under an unprecedented deal which hands back control to the government weeks before the presidential election.

After nearly two years of government siege, weary civilians and rebel forces made their way out of the shelled-out ruins of Old City and surrounding areas on buses taking them to opposition territory in northern Homs province.

The deal effectively turns over the city once dubbed the "capital of the revolution" to government control ahead of a June 3 election expected to return Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Despoiler of Deraa...
to office and marks a symbolic defeat for rebels seeking his ouster.

The evacuation began at around 10 am (0700GMT), with three buses carrying civilians and fighters, some of them maimed, departing from the devastated Old City.

Videos posted online by opposition activists showed a group of fighters, some with their faces covered with black or white scarves, walking in a line towards green buses.

They carried backpacks and light weapons as they boarded the buses, under the gaze of regime police and accompanied by a white U.N. car.

By late afternoon, the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights, a Britannia-based monitoring group, said around 400 of the approximately 1,200 people believed to be in the Old City had left.

Governor Talal al-Barazi told Agence La Belle France Presse a third and possibly a fourth convoy were set to leave the city before nightfall, with the operation continuing Thursday morning.

The evacuees are being transferred to the rebel-held town of Dar al-Kebira, 20 kilometers (12 miles) from Homs.

Wael, an activist in the northern Homs province village of Termaaleh, told AFP he had received some of the evacuees.

"I asked one of my friends, who is now resting in my house, and he said to me that he felt hungry, and in pain and tearful over leaving Homs," he said.

"He said he felt his soul being pulled out of his body as he left Homs."

The deal between the regime and rebels, mediated by Iran's ambassador to Syria, was reached as part of an exchange for a number of hostages being held by opposition fighters in the northern city of Aleppo.

Under the agreement, fighters will also allow aid into two Shiite majority towns in Aleppo province, Nubol and Zahraa, where some 45,000 people are under rebel siege.

A rebel front man in Aleppo said 36 hostages, including "11 Iranians, some Lebanese, and the rest Syrians, all of them fighters", would be handed over.

By late Wednesday afternoon, 15 had already been transferred, said the source, speaking to AFP via the Internet on condition of anonymity.

He also said vehicles carrying aid had started to enter Nubol and Zahraa.

Once the Homs operation is complete, the evacuated areas are to be turned over to the government, which is expected to send in forces to sweep for mines and explosives.

The regime will then have control of all but one major area of Homs city.
