Algerian Offensive Kills 2 Militants
[An Nahar] Algerian soldiers have killed two armed Islamists and recovered weapons and ammunition in an operation 100 kilometers (60 miles) west of the capital, the defense ministry said Friday.

The deaths came amid an ongoing hunt for Islamists linked to an attack in the rugged Kabylie region last Saturday in which 11 soldiers were killed.

"The army succeeded in eliminating two hard boyz in the Gouraya region of Tipaza province," a statement on the ministry's website said.

"Two Kalashnikov assault rifles, three home-made grenades and a large amount of ammunition were recovered."

The pair were killed as part of an "anti-terrorist operation" launched after the 11 soldiers and three Death Eaters were killed in Kabylie just two days after a presidential election returned Abdelaziz Bouteflika
... 10th president of Algeria. He was elected in 1999 and is currently on his third or fourth term. Maybe it's the fifth. He'll likely die in office of old age...
for a fourth term.

The slain troops had been from a unit deployed as part of a nationwide security operation for the controversial leadership contest.

Kabylie is a mountainous and wooded region east of Algiers and a bastion of al-Qaeda in the Islamic Maghreb, which regularly targets the security forces.

Violence blamed on Islamists has declined considerably in recent years, but Death Eaters who battled the army during the civil war in the 1990s and later formed AQIM still operate in the Kabylie area.

The last major attack by Islamist groups there was in April 2011, when 10 soldiers were killed at a military post in Azazga, east of regional capital blood-stained Tizi Ouzou.

One Killed as Moroccan Leftists, Islamists Clash
[An Nahar] An Islamist student died and at least two more were maimed in festivities with leftist students at the University of Fez in Morocco, officials and other sources said Friday.

Thursday's festivities began after leftists tried to forcibly prevent the Islamists from holding a round-table discussion on "Islamists, the left and democracy", a journalist in Fez told Agence La Belle France Presse by telephone.

On one side were partisans of Morocco's ruling Islamist Justice and Development Party and members of the Annahj Dimokrati (Democratic Way) party.

Abderrahim Hasnaoui, 21, died in hospital after being fatally injured in the fighting in which students attacked each other with knives and even swords, the journalist added.

Local officials said four students suspected of involvement in the festivities were tossed in the clink

late on Thursday.

Universities in Morocco are frequently the scene of confrontations involving leftists, Islamists and Death Eaters from the country's Berber minority.

Clashes across Egypt leave at least two people dead
[Iran Press TV] At least two people have been killed and dozens more injured as protesters held anti-government rallies in several cities across Egypt.

A female protester was killed as Egyptian security forces used tear gas and buckshot to disperse a rally in the city of Fayoum, just south of the capital Cairo on Friday.

Reda Ramadan was shot by a birdshot pellet in the stomach during festivities with security forces, a source in the National Alliance for the Defense of Legitimacy said.

The other victim was a 52-year-old man who suffocated by tear gas during festivities in Cairo.

The festivities erupted following Friday prayers.

Afghan Taliban Broker Ceasefire between Rival Pakistan Factions
[An Nahar] The Afghan Taliban said Friday they have brokered a ceasefire between two rival factions of the Pak Taliban, halting a fresh wave of infighting that has killed more than 60 people.

The deadly bout of violence erupted earlier this month between supporters of commander Khan Said Sajna and followers of the late Hakimullah Mehsud in the restive tribal areas of North Wazoo.

Both factions are part of the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP) umbrella group, which has been waging a bloody seven-year insurgency against the state.

Pamphlets distributed on Friday in Miranshah
... headquarters of al-Qaeda in Pakistain and likely location of Ayman al-Zawahiri. The Haqqani network has established a ministate in centered on the town with courts, tax offices and lots of madrassas...
, the main town of North Waziristan, noted that the ceasefire would hold until August 12.

Written in the native Pushto language, it said the ceasefire was brokered by the Islamic Emirate of Afghanistan, the formal name of the Afghan Taliban's 1996-2001 government in Kabul.

A senior commander of one of the Pak factions confirmed the deal.

"We will strictly follow the ceasefire," the commander of the Khan Sajna group told Agence La Belle France Presse.

The infighting began after Sajna, a senior commander, was rejected for the TTP leadership following the killing of then-leader Mehsud last November, faceless myrmidons say.

The TTP has long been riven by infighting.

Sajna had been seen as a strong candidate to become TTP chief following Mehsud's death.

For some reason the Pak intel services were never able to locate his transmitter, much less bomb it. After ruling the place like a conquered province for a year or so, Fazlullah's Talibs began gobbling up more territory as they pushed toward Islamabad, at which point as a matter of self-preservation the Mighty Pak Army threw them out and chased them into Afghanistan...

killing at least four persons, including a woman, and injuring more than 20 others, DawnNews reported.

Provincial Information Minister Sharjeel Memon talking to media persons at the blast site confirmed that four persons had died in the kaboom.

He also said that three government vehicles were damaged in the attack and that these vehicles were the apparent target of the blast.

The information minister said that there had been an escalation in such incidents after the expiry of ceasefire announced by the Tehrik-e-Taliban Pakistain (TTP).

Five auto rickshaws, ten vehicles and scores of motor cycles were destroyed as a result of the blast whereas the windows of several nearby buildings were left shattered.

Ten kilograms of explosives were used in today's kaboom, sources in the bomb disposal unit told DawnNews.

They added that around the time of the kaboom, a bus with employees of the official residence of the Sindh chief minister had left Masjid-e-Yasrab shortly after Friday prayers.

The sources said the attack was most likely aimed at the bus carrying the CM house employees, adding that the bomber who was in a rickshaw went kaboom! before getting to its target.

Moreover, Inspector General Sindh Iqbal Mehmood said the bus with the CM employees could have been the target of the attack.

Security personnel also claimed to have taken two suspects into custody who were shifted to some holy man's guesthouse an undisclosed location for further questioning.

According to initial reports, the blast took place near the location of a carpet showroom in the area which was situated between two mosques.

Other eyewitness reports said that the kaboom occurred when people were leaving the mosques after offering Friday prayers.

The casualties were shifted to the Jinnah Postgraduate Medical Centre.

A huge plume of smoke was also visible above the area, following the blast.

Security personnel cordoned off the area as a search operation went underway.

The loud kaboom was heard in adjoining areas of Clifton, Gizri and several phases of Defence Housing Authority.

Gun battle kills two suspected Kashmiri rebels
[DAWN] At least two suspected rebels were killed late Friday in Indian Kashmire in a shootout with government forces, a day after a polling officer was killed in election violence, police said.

The shootout started when government forces laid a siege around Manloo village, 55 kilometres (34 miles) south of the main city of Srinagar, after receiving information about the presence of three Death Eaters who fired at them.

"Two bad boyz were potted in the encounter. The third may or may not have died yet in the operation," Nalin Prabhat, inspector general of the federal Central Reserve Force told AFP.

An Indian army officer was also "critically injured" in the shootout, a top police officer told AFP on condition of anonymity, adding that the operation was suspended for the night.

Late on Thursday suspected rebels ambushed a government vehicle in the area that was carrying polling officials back at the end of voting, killing a polling officer and injuring five others including three government forces personnel.

Anantnag constituency in southern Kashmire valley, where a separatist movement is centred, polled Thursday in the ongoing marathon Indian elections amid dozens of protests and rebel warnings to the people to stay away from voting.

"Indian troops used mortar and other heavy weapons which was strongly responded by Pak troops," a short statement from the ISPR said.

"No casualties have so far been reported," the statement said.

Reports running in the Indian media on the other hand quoted an Indian defence front man as alleging that the LoC ceasefire was violated from the Pak side of the border.

Iraq
28 killed in attack on Shi'ite political rally in Iraq
[REUTERS] A series of kabooms killed 18 people at a Shi'ite political organization's rally in Iraq on Friday, police and medical sources said.

The myrmidon group, Asaib Ahl Haq (League of the Righteous), introduced its candidates for elections on April 30 at the rally in eastern Storied Baghdad. Three bombs went kaboom! in succession as people were leaving, Rooters news hounds at the scene said.

A roadside kaboom blew up near the main gate, followed by a suicide boom-mobile after a few minutes and then a final kaboom.

The group is accused by some Sunnis and Shiites of carrying out killings and driving families from their homes.

Its leader Sheik Qais Khazaali denies the allegations but says his movement defends Iraq against terrorism. Some of its fighters are in Syria defending the shrine of Sayyida Zainab in Damascus.

More Jordan Unrest after Clashes Kill One
[An Nahar] "Outlaws" threw petrol bombs at government buildings in the restive southern city of Maan Friday, where unrest this week has killed one man and maimed five coppers, a security source said.

The violence first erupted Sunday night when gunnies shot up police guarding a courthouse in Maan, seriously wounding one of them.

It was not immediately clear what sparked the shooting in the impoverished city.

Security forces opened an investigation into the incident and launched a manhunt for the gunnies, triggering riots in the city, said the security source.

During one security operation Tuesday a 20-year-old man was killed in festivities with coppers outside his home, witnesses said.

The following day, angry residents blocked roads while others torched three banks and a tax office, and gunnies fired on police and other government buildings, witnesses said.

The violence did not abet, and "outlaws" opened fire from rooftops on police and used burning tires to block off roads in the city center on Thursday, the security source said referring to the troublemakers.

Police responded with tear gas.

Early Friday other assailants were back on the streets and "threw petrol bombs at government buildings," the source said, adding that fires broke out in two offices.

"Firefighters were unable to respond because the outlaws had blocked off the roads," the source said.

Interior Minister Hussein al-Majali told the cabinet Thursday that five coppers had been maimed since the trouble began.

Maan has a bloody and rebellious past dating back to the turn of the past century, when it was the seat of the Great Arab Revolt that crushed Ottoman rule.

Three kidnappers arrested in Zamboanga
Philippine police forces arrested suspected kidnappers in separate operations in Zamboanga City and Zamboanga del Sur province, officials announced on Friday.

Inspector Dahlan Samuddin, a regional police spokesman, said Jamal Gonzales was arrested before he could flee to Sulu province. He said Gonzales was about to board the boat when policemen seized him at the pier. He did not say if Gonzales is a member of the Abu Sayyaf, blamed for a series ransom kidnappings in the region.

Samuddin said another kidnapper, Tingaraan Pamosogan, was also arrested in Zamboanga del Sur province. It was not immediately known if Pamosogan is a member of a militant group, but their arrest came a day after local authorities captured an Abu Sayyaf militant, who uses the alias of Abu Darren, in Zamboanga City where he was allegedly planning to bomb civilian targets.

Abu Darren was arrested after police and military commandos swooped down on the seaside village of Baliwasan. He was involved in the ransom kidnappings of 21 mostly European holidaymakers from the posh Malaysian resort of Pulau Sipadan in 2000 and has also been linked by the police to a foiled kidnapping at a posh pearl farm resort in Davao that left two people dead in 2001.

The remaining seven suspects confessed to being involved in the attacks, and were detained at the Southern Border Provinces Police Operation Center.

Blackout in Syria's Aleppo Enters Second Week
[An Nahar] Syria's Aleppo has been hit by a power cut for seven consecutive days, a monitoring group said Friday, the day after some 50 non-combatants were killed in air raids there.

Regime-controlled areas of the city and countryside "have been deprived of electricity for seven days, after the (rebel) Islamic court ordered high-tension power lines be cut off as a way to put pressure on the regime," said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

That sabotage was also aimed at trying to stop the air force from dropping barrel bombs on Aleppo, the Britannia-based group said.

Hundreds of people, mainly civilians, have been killed in a massive aerial offensive against rebel-controlled areas of Aleppo that was launched in mid-December.

On Thursday alone, at least 48 people, including seven children, were killed across Aleppo province.

Thirty of them were killed in an air raid on the market area of Atareb village, said the Observatory, updating an earlier toll.

Elsewhere, fresh fighting broke out in the southern province of Daraa, a day after 31 rebel and jihadist fighters were killed during the takeover of a strategic hill, Tal al-Jabiyeh, near besieged Nawa town.

The Observatory had earlier reported an unknown number of soldiers killed or taken prisoner.

Activists in the area said the takeover was significant because the hill had been used as a launching pad to bomb several rebel-held areas nearby.

Syria militants suffers heavy losses across Aleppo
[Iran Press TV] Syrian army forces have managed to kill a number of foreign-backed turbans in operations across the northern province of Aleppo, Syrian national media report.

An unspecified number of turbans were killed on Friday as army units targeted gunnies attempting to infiltrate into a school in the Old City of Aleppo, SANA reported.

Elsewhere, army units killed and injured more turbans in the neighborhoods of al-Lairamoun, al-Jbeileh, al-Sheikh Saeed and al-Ameriyeh.

Syrian troops inflicted heavy losses on krazed killer forces, targeting their positions in several locations, including the towns of Khan al-Assal, Manbij, Tell Rifaat, Manbej, Khan Touman, Huraytan, and Kafr Hamrah.

Meanwhile in the eastern province of Deir Ezzor, government forces targeted a group of turbans in al-Mrei'yeh village and its neighboring farms, a military official said.

The army killed and maimed several of the group's members and destroyed their vehicles equipped with heavy machine guns.

Since March 2011, Syria has been experiencing a deadly violence that is fueled by turbans reportedly sponsored by the Western powers and their regional allies - namely Soddy Arabia
...a kingdom taking up the bulk of the Arabian peninsula. Its primary economic activity involves exporting oil and soaking Islamic rubes on the annual hajj pilgrimage. , Qatar and Turkey.

Reports say more than 150,000 people have so far been killed and millions of others displaced because of the foreign-backed militancy.

Earlier this month, Syrian Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad

Wanted Jordanian Suspect Traveling from Syria's Yabrud Arrested in Arsal
[An Nahar] The Internal Security Forces announced on Friday the arrest of a wanted Jordanian, who has entered Leb from Syria, in the eastern region of the Bekaa.

It said that the suspect, M.A., was locked away
Yez got nuttin' on me, coppers! Nuttin'!
in the town of Arsal after entering the country from the Syrian city of Yabrud.

It did not disclose the charges he is wanted for.

Security forces in Arsal had also seized on Wednesday and Thursday nine vehicles, some of which were stolen and others did not have proper registration papers.

Earlier, the army announced the arrest of a wanted Bekaa gang member.

It identified the suspect as Merhej Mohammed Jaafar, a member of the so-called Mohammed Dawra gang.

He is wanted for the hold up of a Syrian bus in the Tall al-Abyad region in the Bekaa region of Baalbek, which took place on January 9.

He, along with his accomplices, then robbed the passengers of around L.L. 25 million.

Jaafar is also wanted for opening fire at people in the Bekaa town of Younine.

The army on Thursday had arrested ten Syrians in Arsal for entering Leb with fake identification papers.

It also arrested three others in the same town.

One of the suspects possessed a belt carrying 3.5 kilograms of explosives.

These arrests are part of the ongoing security plan implemented in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
and the Bekaa region.

There are reportedly over a thousand suspects on the lam in the area.

Arsal lies 12 kilometers from the border with Syria and has been used as a conduit for weapons and rebels to enter Syria, while also serving as a refuge for people fleeing the conflict.

Israeli Soldiers Search al-Wazzani Area
[An Nahar] An Israeli military unit crossed on Friday the technical fence near al-Wazzani river and then left, the state-run National News Agency reported.

According to al-Jadeed TV, the unit, which consisted of 20 soldiers, crossed the barbed wire but did not cross the U.N.-drawn Blue Line.

They left the area and took position near the Hosn al-Wazzani leisure park, the TV station said.
