in the operations.

, Kandahar, Pashtun-infested Logar, and Ghazni provinces."

The MoIA did not provide details about Afghan forces' casualties during the raids. And self-identified Taliban spokespeople have not yet commented on the operations.

Two Dead in Algeria Ethnic Clashes
[AnNahar] A man was killed Saturday in the southern Algerian town of Ghardaia, the second fatality in less than 24 hours of ethnic violence between Berbers and Arabs in the region, local sources said.

A Berber in his forties was stabbed early Saturday morning, Hamou Mesbah, a senior member of the opposition Socialist Forces Front, told Agence La Belle France Presse.

And Abdallah Zekri, front man for the Collective of Mozabites (Berbers) in Europe, said the man had been taken "by a gang, tortured, stabbed" and his corpse "thrown in front of a mosque."

Zekri said the dead man's family needed police protection to recover his body.

Ghardaia has been the scene of violence since December when fighting erupted between Berbers and Arabs, known as Chaambas.

The violence has killed 10 people and maimed more than 400.

On Friday, a man was killed when unrest erupted outside a mosque in Berriane, 45 kilometers (28 miles) north of Ghardaia, after weekly prayers.

"A young Mozabite, Nacer Benacer, was killed by a bullet from a hunting rifle," Mesbah told AFP.

"Another youngster, the same age, is in a coma after he was also shot," Mesbah said, without elaborating.

The man suspected of shooting Benacer was placed in durance vile

Arab-Berber clashes wound dozen south of Algeria
Around a dozen people, including two policemen, were wounded Friday in fresh clashes between Arabs and Berbers near the southern Algerian town of Ghardaia, a medical source said Al Arabiya reported.

The unrest erupted after the main Friday prayers outside a mosque in Berriane, 45 kilometres (28 miles) north of Ghardaia, APS news agency quoted the source as saying. The two sides threw Molotov cocktails and rocks at one another and caused a major backup on a key highway linking the country's north and south before police dispersed them with tear gas, the source said. Some businesses and homes in the area were looted, the source added.

Ghardaia has been the scene of ethnic violence that has killed seven people and wounded more than 400 since December when fighting erupted between Berbers, known as Mozabites, and Arabs, known as Chaambas.

Hundreds of houses and shops in the town, which is a UNESCO heritage site, have also been burned down in the unrest.

The two communities have lived together for centuries, but tensions between them have risen sharply since vandals destroyed a historic Berber shrine in late December.

Videos shown to visiting journalists in January have been circulating on the Internet showing youths vandalising Mozabite property and smashing up the tomb of Amir Moussa, a 16th century Berber leader, and desecrating the ancient cemetery in Ghardaia, as police look on.
That's certainly enough to lead to a round of mutual mustache cursing, and things took off from there...

#1  there is a lot of anti-arabism among the berbers and many think its time for autonomy or even an independent berber state

some berbers have even made the connection that it is Islam which is the source of their subjugation

Bahrain bomb blast wounds policeman
[Beirut Daily Star: Region] Bahrain: Bahrain's interior ministry says a homemade bomb has went kaboom! just outside the capital, Manama, wounding a policeman.

The ministry says the blast happened Friday in the village of Daih. The same area was the scene of a kaboom in March that killed three coppers.

An investigation into the blast is ongoing.

Bahrain is an island nation in the Persian Gulf that is home to the U.S. navy's Fifth Fleet. It has faced three years of unrest following an uprising led by its Shiite Mohammedan community demanding greater rights from the Sunni monarchy.

Bloody Sinaloa: 7 die

As many as 21 individuals have been killed in gunfights in a mountain municipality of Sinaloa state since April 8th, according to Mexican news reports.

Saturday a news account which appeared in the online edition of Milenio news daily said that four victims of a series of shootouts in Tamazula were found Saturday between the villages of Chacala and Las Coloradas. Those men were identified as Joel Barraza Chairez, 18, Aurelio Beltran Leon, 39, Nemias Fernandez Lopez, 24, and Jesus Alberto Guzman Garcia, 35.

Last Wednesday news reports indicated that a total of 18 individuals were killed in a series of gunfights between local drug gangs in the municipality. At the time confirmed reports were that four were found dead and three were wounded, even though other publications had said the bloodletting was much worse.

According to a separate news account in Milenio published last Wednesday, starting on April 8th, some of the gunfights in the area lasted about 15 hours and took place in the villages of Chacala, Las Coloradas and Las Trancas.

Those reports also said that three individuals were wounded in the gunfights. They were identified in an April 9th La Jornada report as JosĂŠ Valdez CastaĂąeda, Alejo Villanueva Zazueta and JosĂŠ Angel Arredondo YäĂąez. The Milenio report which was filed Saturday also mentioned three wounded although none of the previous online reports have said if the reported wounded were the same.

Mexico, specifically in Sinaloa are no strangers to large scale armed encounters between drug gangs. Almost two years ago 57 individuals were killed on a month's time span beginning in May, 2012, after gangs aligned with the Sinaloa drug cartel fought against groups of fighters affiliated with the Juarez, Beltran Leyva and Los Zetas mostly in Choix municipality.

Given the nature of the fighting, usually gangs retrieve their dead to prevent rival gangs and Mexican security forces from gaining intelligence. Adding to that the government habit of failing to report everything about a confrontation, the death toll in Tamazula may be much worse than reported.

Caucasus/Russia/Central Asia
Russia Confirms Death Of Islamist Militant, Its Most Wanted Man
[Rooters] Russia's Federal Security Service
... the successor to the KGB...
(FSB) said on Tuesday it had killed Moscow's most wanted man, Islamist insurgency leader Doku Count Doku Umarov
... Self-styled first emir of the Caucasus Emirate. Count Doku has announced that his forces will not target civilians, but qualified that statement by saying there aren't any civilians in Russia...
, in a combat operation.

A website sympathetic to the insurgency in the North Caucasus said on March 18 that Umarov was dead but the Russian authorities had not previously confirmed the report.

Umarov's Caucasus Emirate organization has played a leading role in the insurgency aimed at creating an Islamist state in Russia's North Caucasus and says it was behind attacks in Moscow in 2010 and 2011 that killed a total of 77 people.

"As a result of a combat operation, the activity of the head of the terrorist organization Caucasus Emirate, Umarov, was neutralised," Alexander Bortnikov, the head of the FSB, told a meeting of Russia's National Anti-Terrorism Committee (NAK).

Another lawyer, trader killed in 'sectarian' attacks
[DAWN] KARACHI: A lawyer and a shopkeeper were rubbed out in suspected sectarian attacks in the city on Friday in apparent resurgence of violence during the last three days, when over a dozen people, including a doctor, a senior lawyer and three seminary students, were killed.

The lawyer was bumped off on Jehangir Road in the evening.

According to Jamshed Quarters SP Akhter Farooq, as Syed Ghulam Hyder, 50, driving a car reached near Shah Najaf Imambargah
...since Pakistain is very religiously correct™, Shia Moslems can't call their houses of worship 'mosques,' which are reserved for Sunnis. It's not clear if imambargahs are used for explosives storage like mosques are...
, motorcyclists attacked him with a 9mm pistol. The fleeing suspects also attacked the Imambargah, whose main gate was hit by two bullets. Mr Hyder sustained bullet wounds in the head and was taken to the Civil Hospital Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
, where doctors pronounced him dead
He's dead, Jim!
on arrival.

"It appeared to be an act of sectarian killing," said the police officer.

The dear departed, resident of Martin Quarters, was a 'consultant' at an office of the Federal Ombudsman for Insurance, said Akhter Farooq.

However,
there's more than one way to stuff a chicken...
secretary general of the Karachi Bar Association (KBA) Khalid Mumtaz told Dawn that the victim was a lawyer and member of the KBA. He said the lawyers would boycott court proceedings on Saturday in protest against the killing while a general body meeting of the KBA would be held to chalk out a future course of action.

Khalid Mumtaz said that around 41 lawyers had been targeted in Karachi since 2010. Except in the murder cases of two lawyers, including Naimat Ali Randhawa, the authorities had enjugged
Drop the rosco, Muggsy, or you're one with the ages!
no culprits involved in the killing of the lawyers in the metropolis.

He said lawyers and doctors were being targeted by forces bent upon creating anarchy in the city and the country.

Meanwhile,
...back at the shouting match, the spittle had reached unprecedented levels...
a spokesperson of the Majlis Wahadat-e-Moslemeen said Syed Ghulam Hyder was on his way from his home in Martin Quarters to attend the 'Soyem Majlis' of someone at the Imambargah when he was attacked. He said Shias were being targeted because they had taken a clear stance against hard boyz while the government was "appeasing" them by holding talks with them.

Some time later, a shopkeeper was bumped off in a suspected sectarian attack in the Nazimabad area.

Nazimabad SHO Ejaz Lodhi said Feroz Ahmed, 32, was riding a cycle of violence when gunnies on another cycle of violence ambushed him near Hamdard Centre in Nazimabad-3. He sustained two bullet wounds in the head and was taken to the Abbasi Shaheed Hospital, where he was declared dead on arrival. The police found three spent bullet casings of a 9mm pistol at the scene of the crime.

The victim was a shopkeeper and resident of Gulbahar. He belonged to the Gulbahar unit of the Ahle Sunnat Wal Jamaat
...which is the false nose and plastic mustache of the murderous banned extremist group Sipah-e-Sahaba Pakistain, whatcha might call the political wing of Lashkar-e-Jhangvi...
. ASWJ leader Maulana Rab Nawaz Hanafi condemned the 'assassination' of the activist.

Lawyer from Attock and his guard gunned down near courts
[DAWN] RAWALPINDI: A senior lawyer from Attock was bumped off along with one of his bodyguards by his rivals near the district courts here on Friday.

Mohammad Abbas, the elder son of the slain Mohammad Ameer Khan Advocate, sustained a bullet injury when the police opened fire on his car near Morgah when he was taking his injured father to hospital.

The injured lawyer, Ameer Khan, however, died before reaching the hospital.

The injured son of the dear departed lawyer was taken into protective custody by the Civil Lines police after he was given first aid at the District Headquarters Hospital and declared out of danger by the doctors.

The police said Ameer Khan Advocate had come to the Anti-Terrorism Court (ATC) No II in the Rawalpindi city to attend the proceeding of a case in which he had been nominated as an accused by his rivals in the Attock district.

Hardly Advocate Khan along with his son Abbas and two bodyguards had crossed the Katchery Chowk when their rivals, whose number could not be known, ambushed them.

As a result, one of the security guards was struck down in his prime and the lawyer was critically injured.

After the indiscriminate shooting, hundreds of people who had come to the district courts ran out of the premises in panic.

"There was a cross firing between two rival groups from Attock during which Mohammad Ameer Advocate along with an unidentified person was killed," Regional Police Officer (RPO) Umar Akhtar Hayat Laleka told Dawn.

He said a police team intercepted a car in which the injured man was being taken away near Morgah presuming that the people who had opened the fire near Katchery Chowk were fleeing in the vehicle towards Soan.

The RPO claimed that the police recovered two Kalashnikovs and two pistols from the car.

"Besides, a magazine (containing bullets) was also recovered from the second deceased who is yet to be identified," he added.

Though the police reacted promptly and forced the driver of the car to stop, the gunnies who attacked the lawyer managed to escape.

The police even could not give the number of people who attacked and killed the two men.

Two Shia Hazaras gunned down in Quetta
[DAWN] Armed turbans killed two people of ethnic Shia Hazara community in Sariab road area of Quetta, the capital of volatile Balochistan

province on Saturday night, police said.

Imran Qureshi, the Superintendent of Police Sariab Road told Dawn.com that armed turbans singled out two members of Hazara community from a passenger bus and opened fire on them from a very close range.

He said one person was killed on the spot while the other succumbed to his wounds on his way to hospital. The attackers sped away on their cycle of violences after the firing.

"The incident as an act of assassination," Qureshi said. The passenger bus was preparing to leave for Bloody Karachi
...formerly the capital of Pakistain, now merely its most important port and financial center. It is among the largest cities in the world, with a population of 18 million, most of whom hate each other and many of whom are armed and dangerous...
when intercepted by krazed killers, he added.

Police and personnel of Frontier Corps (FC) reached the spot and launched an initial investigation into the incident.

"It is an act of sectarian terrorism," police said.

The dead bodies of the victims were rushed to the Combined Military Hospital (CMH) for medico-legal formalities.

The incident took place four days after at least 17 people were killed in a blast at Sibi railway station in the province.

Quetta remained under the grip of sectarian attacks for last more than a decade. A large number of members of Hazara community have been killed in assassinations and suicide kabooms.

Gunmen storm 'pro-govt' Pak village, kidnap 100 men
[Pak Daily Times] Gunmen stormed a village gathering in north-western Pakistain on Saturday and kidnapped around 100 men, government officials said.
Just a splinter group. Nothing to get excited about.
Any of them babies?
Officials said they suspected that the gunnies are Taliban because the villagers supported the government.

Three local government officials told Rooters that the gunnies had initially taken around 100 villagers from a gathering in the remote region on the border of Orakzai and Khyber tribal areas, both of which border Afghanistan, but had later released around 40 of them. The officials all asked to remain anonymous because negotiations for the men's release were ongoing.

"The government has no writ in those areas between Orakzai and Khyber tribal region but we are hearing from the local people that tribal elders had sent (elders) to the Taliban to release the kidnapped villagers without any condition," one official said.

Another official said that law-enforcement agencies had launched a search operation in the area for the safe recovery of the villagers.

"Yes they kidnapped over 100 villagers but later released some of them. I hope they will free others as well as the tribal elders have been working on," the bigwig said.

The Taliban and the government are currently involved in peace talks. The Taliban officially observed a ceasefire from March 1 to April 10, but the insurgency is split over whether to renew it. The two rival Taliban factions are currently fighting each other.

The Taliban are a loose alliance of krazed killer groups fighting to overthrow the government and impose a strict form of Islamic law on Pakistain.

In the northwest, where the Taliban are strongest, many villagers have formed self-defence militias known as lashkars to fight the insurgency.

Heavy fighting in Anbar province
Heavy fighting between Iraqi security forces and Al-Qaeda-linked militants and antigovernment tribesmen has been reported in Ramadi. Clashes with shoot-outs and large explosions were reported in the city.

Clashes have also been ongoing in nearby Fallujah and other towns and villages in Anbar.

Fighting has intensified since Iraqi security forces pulled out of several parts of Ramadi on April 8. The Women's and Children's Hospital in the heart of the city was damaged by mortar fire, wounding four people.

In Fallujah, clashes and indiscriminate shelling continued into the night. Widespread clashes are also taking place in Al-Garma township to the northeast of the city.

NPA militants ambush Philippine troops
The New People's Army on Saturday ambushed Philippine troops in the southern Philippine province of Compostela Valley where the communist militants earlier attacked two mining firms it accused of destroying the environment.

Rebel spokesman Daniel Ibarra said the latest NPA offensive was a follow-up to an earlier attack on the US-owned St. Augustine Gold and Copper Ltd., and the Malaysia-owned Apex Mining on April 7 and 10. He said an undetermined number of government troops were either killed or injured in the NPA attack that targeted the 9th Infantry Battalion.

Ibarra said the two mining firms "grossly and repeatedly violated regulations of the People's Democratic Government with regards to environmental protection, workers' welfare and people's livelihood."

Basilan death toll rises to 12
The death toll in the fighting between Islamist militants and soldiers in the southern Philippines has risen to 12. More than 28 soldiers were also reported injured in running gun battles that began on Friday in Basilan province between Philippine troops and suspected Abu Sayyaf terrorists.

The latest report said the casualties included five suspected Abu Sayyaf members and two government soldiers, correcting earlier reports of only three casualties on the side of the Abu Sayyaf fighters after the military attacked their bases in Ungkaya Pukan and Tipotipo.

Capt. Jefferson Mamauag said that seven Abu Sayyaf members had been killed, "with authorities now searching for their burial sites."

He also said three members of the Moro Islamic Liberation Front (MILF), another Muslim insurgent group with whom the government has just signed a peace agreement, were also killed Friday, but "their bodies were as yet unrecovered."

Alton Angeles, municipal planning officer of the town where most of the fighting occurred, said MILF militants were fighting alongside government troops. However, MILF vice chair Ghazali Jaafar said their leadership had yet to receive a report of MILF casualties. He said, "It’s possible people got killed because there was a firefight."

'Eagle of Arsal' Arrested for Setting Up Booby-Trapped Cars
[AnNahar] The army intelligence enjugged
Don't shoot, coppers! I'm comin' out!
on Saturday afternoon in the northeastern town of Arsal one of the main runaways accused of setting up booby-trapped cars.

"Ahmed al-Atrash, nicknamed the 'Eagle of Arsal,' was arrested in the Bekaa town," the state-run National News Agency reported.

The NNA added: "Al-Atrash is a dangerous runaway accused of preparing bomb-laden cars."

Later in the evening, the military institution confirmed in a communique the arrest of Ahmed Ahmed al-Atrash on charges of terrorism.

"Investigation kicked off in the arrest of al-Atrash under the supervision of the competent court," the statement added.

OTV noted that the man is the brother of "terrorist" Sami al-Atrash, and the cousin of detainee Omar al-Atrash.

Sami al-Atrash was killed in March during a military operation in Arsal. He had several terrorism charges against him, and was accused of killing soldiers and civilians in the region.

On Wednesday, the army also arrested eight "dangerous" runaways, all Syrians, in the border town of Arsal.

The military institution confiscated a stolen car and weapons in the region as well.

The arrests come as security forces are implementing a security plan that was adopted by the cabinet to restore security and stability in the northern city of Tripoli

Dangerous Kidnapper among Several Fugitives Arrested in the Bekaa
[AnNahar] Internal Security Forces announced on Saturday arresting "one of the most dangerous runaways" and seizing several vehicles in the Bekaa, as the security plan continues to be implemented in the region and in the North.

"Ali Khodr Jaafar, also known as Ali al-Shaar, is one of the most dangerous runaways and is linked to several kidnapping operations," an ISF communique detailed, noting that the arrest took place during a security operation in the region.

"He collaborated with the gangs of detainees Abbas Jaafar and Ali al-Masri in kidnapping several Lebanese and Arabs for ransom," the statement said.

Al-Shaar also attacked, along with with Abbas Jaafar's gang, an army patrol in the Bekaa region of Riyaq in 2009, leaving four soldiers dead and an official with severe injuries.

"His attacks against ISF patrols in Baalbek killed several soldiers too," the ISF statement added.

The detained man is also accused of drug dealing, and of firing gunshots using small and medium-caliber weapons.

"Investigation with the detainee got under way under the supervision of the competent court to uncover his possible involvement in other crimes," the statement reported.

Also in the Bekaa, security forces seized nine vehicles during its raids of "suspicious sites" in the northeastern town of Arsal.

Six of the confiscated cars were stolen, and three without the necessary legal documents.

The army later announced in a communique that Syrian national Abdul Nabi Roumieh was held in Arsal over "his suspicious his ties with terrorist groups."

for firing gunshots and wounding one person.

"H. A. is also wanted on theft charges and for not possessing legal documents," the army added.

Later in the evening, the state-run National News Agency reported that army troops arrested additional runaways during the raids in several regions in Baalbek, including the towns of al-Kayyal, al-Sharawina, al-Osseira, Dar al-Wassia, and Iaat.

Saturday's efforts in the North resulted in the arrest of A. F. in Tripoli's Hara Barranieh area.

A. F. is accused of threatening shop owners in the neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh in disputes that were fueled by sectarian motives.

The Lebanese army had tightened its grip earlier on Saturday on Baalbek's al-Sharawina neighborhood from all sides and carried out raids in search of suspects.

Army units began deploying in the area three days after it kicked off a security plan in the eastern towns of the Bekaa Valley despite reports that top-wanted suspects have fled the area.

On Thursday, the army deployed in the Bekaa Valley at the start of the security plan after armed forces took full control of all checkpoints on the road linking the towns of Arsal and Hermel near the Syrian border.

A similar security plan has gone into effect in the northern city of Tripoli where scores of suspects have been arrested for their involvement in several rounds of fighting.

'Fiercest' Fighting in Syria's Aleppo Since Mid-2012
[AnNahar] Syrian troops battled rebels around a military intelligence base in Aleppo in what a monitoring group said Saturday was the fiercest fighting in the northern metropolis since mid-2012.

Syrian Observatory for Human Rights director Rami Abdel Rahman said the overnight festivities were "the fiercest since the fighting began in Aleppo and the closest yet to the intelligence base in the Zahra neighborhood."

In an email, the Syrian Revolution General Commission, an activist network on the ground, said government aircraft "opened fire with heavy machine guns on the Al-Leyramun neighborhood, and the outskirts of the air force intelligence base."

The Observatory said there had been casualties on both sides and civilians had fled the area.

Government aircraft bombed rebel-held districts of the city throughout Friday and into Saturday, killing four rebels in the Rashidun district in the east of the city.

Salafist tough guys shelled several government-held neighborhoods, killing 10 people, five of them children, the Observatory said.

Rebels seized a big swathe of Aleppo in a major offensive in mid-2012 but the front line has since remained largely static.

Syria army gains more ground near Damascus
[Iran Press TV] The Syrian army has taken more ground from foreign-backed forces of Evil in the Damascus countryside amid ongoing heavy festivities between the two sides across the country.

Syrian army units on Saturday destroyed terrorist hideouts in the northern entrance of the town of al-Mleiha, in Eastern al-Ghouta.

They reportedly killed a number of bully boyz and discovered a vast net of tunnels the bully boyz had been using to move around and transport weapons and ammunition.
Press TV has discovered 'terrorists'...
Al-Mleiha was the scene of the latest fierce fighting between the two sides, which ended with the advance of the Syrian army troops.

On April 4, Syrian army tanks pounded Death Eater positions in al-Mleiha, while Syrian warplanes carried out several air raids on the town. The attack came a day after army bombing killed 22 forces of Evil in al-Mleiha.

The town is strategically significant as it is located near the army-held city of Jaramana, which comes under frequent fire by Death Eater forces.

On Saturday, the Syrian army was engaged in heavy fighting against forces of Evil around a military intelligence base in the northeastern city of Aleppo.

Officials reported casualties on both sides and said civilians had fled the area.

Meanwhile,
...back at the desert island, Bert was realizing to his horror that he'd had only one bottle for one message, and he'd forgotten to include a return address...
the Syrian army has also launched successful offensives against forces of Evil in the southwestern city of Dara'a and the Homs countryside, in the west.

Demo against Arrest Warrants Called Off in Tripoli, More Fugitives Interrogated
[AnNahar] A demonstration that was planned to take place on Friday to protest the arrest warrants issued against hundreds of the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
's residents has been called off, after the interference of several political figures.

A group of young men had called via social media platforms for a "mass demonstration" in Abdul Hamid Karami Square in Tripoli after Friday's prayers, to demand withdrawing the arrest warrants issued against hundreds of the city's residents.

"But after the interference of many influential figures in the city and the adoption of strict security measures by the army, the protest has been called off," the state-run National News Agency said.

"A small-scale sit-in took place instead, with dozens of participants gathering in front of the Amira mosque in Tripoli's Bab al-Ramel neighborhood," NNA reported.

The protesters called for the release of Sheikh Tareq Merhi, the mosque's Imam, and his lover companions, who have been held in Roumieh prison for years over their ties with krazed killer group Fatah al-Islam

, according to the same source.

In a related matter, Judge Nabil Wehbe interrogated on Friday two detainees from the Tripoli neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh, and issued arrest warrants against them.

Wehbe also issued arrest warrants in absentia against 12 other runaways, among them were Ziad A., Saad M., and Farouq M.

This comes as army troops and security forces continue to implement a security plan approved by the cabinet in the North and the Bekaa, to end the state of violence and chaos in the region. So far, more than 40 runaways have been tossed in the calaboose
