Afghanistan
4 Militants Arrested in Baghlan Operation
[Tolo News] Local officials in northern Baghlan said on Wednesday that four bully boyz were nabbed
Keep yer hands where we can see 'em, if yez please!
during an Afghan military operation.

The operation was launched in the district of Andarab in Baghlan to clear the area of turbans and the Hezbollah of Afghanistan Death Eater group before Election Day, provincial Police Chief Aminullah Amarkhil said.

"The bully boyz were arrested with their weapons," Amarkhil said. "Their commander, Mujahid Andarabi, wanted to threaten the security of the district and wanted to recruit rebels to create the Hezbollah of Afghanistan."

Hezbollah of Afghanistan is not an extension of the Lebanese political party and paramilitary group.

Amarkhil said the military operation is still underway in Andarab district.

With three days remaining until Election Day, security forces have increased proactive military operations and police checkpoints throughout the country.

Kenya gunmen open fire on church service
Two terrorists gunmen stormed a church near the Kenyan coastal city of Mombasa and opened fire on worshippers, killing six people and wounding 20 others, police officials said.
The Lions of Islam™ strike again...
One witness said the terrorists gunmen shouted out in a foreign language before shooting indiscriminately at the congregation on Sunday.
It wasn't exactly 'foreign'; I bet I know what he was yelling...
"Both terrorists carried big guns and began shooting all over the place. I fell to the ground and could hear screams," said Lilian Omondi, who was leading a prayer recital at the time.

Another bystander said the terrorists assailants walked unhurriedly out of the church and opened fire on people standing outside.

An Interior Ministry official later said the terrorists they escaped.

"They were ordinary looking terrorists guys, one of them tall, dark and wearing a long-sleeved shirt. They walked casually as if all was ok," said Peter Muasya. "Then they started shooting at those of us who were standing outside."

The church shooting took place in Likoni, located across a deep-water channel from Mombasa city, a major tourist hub. There was no immediate claim of responsibility. Likoni's police chief Robert Mureithi said it appeared the terrorists gunmen were armed with automatic weapons.

I take it, no one waited reverently for the interpretation.

#2  What this story says to me is something simple:

if I'm a Christian in a land where Muslims were going after my fellow believers, it's time to arm up and defend the congregation, the church buildings, and the faithful at large.

Boko Harem in Nigeria and Cameroon, and the Shaboobs in Kenya, make it clear that the violent Islamicists at the bloody border of Islam aren't going to be stopped by usual policing. The armies in these kinds may not be well equipped and disciplined enough to root out the terrorists. So it's up to the church elders to make sure the flock are protected.

Suspected pirate leader killed in RAB 'gunfight'
[Dhaka Tribune] An alleged ringleader of sea robbers' gang was rubbed out in a "shootout" with the Rapid Action Battalion (RAB) at Urir Char in Sandwip upazila of Chittagong yesterday morning.
How do you say "Yar, me hearties" in Bengali?
Very carefully - one missed dipthong and you've invited them to dinner.
The dear departed was identified as Shahadat Hossain alias Jasu, 30.
How do you say "He's dead, Jim"?
Meanwhile,
...back at the saw mill, Scarface Al had tied Little Nell to the log and was about to turn on the buzz saw...
police found three bodies in the Bay of Bengal off the coast of Sandwip, but they could not confirm their identity, said Mohammad Shahidullah, additional superintendent of police of Chittagong (north zone). Local sources claimed that the bodies were of three other robbers killed during the "shootout."
"Lookidat, Nurul! You can see light right through his brisket!"
Major Md Shahed Hasan Rajib, commanding officer of RAB11 Comilla Camp, told the Dhaka Tribune that a gang of sea robberswere locked in the shootout with the elite force when its ringleader, Jasu, was rubbed out around 10:30am.
"10:30am"? The guys are running a little late - like about eight hours.
"Yar! Our beloved leader is titzup! We must have Dire Revenge™!"
"We had conducted drives at Urir Char since March 30 night to catch Jasu and his cohorts as we had information that they had taken position there ahead of March 31 upazila polls at Sandwip," he said.
Is Sandwip in the Sunderbans? Is it ruled with an iron fist by the Earl of Sandwip?
"The RAB personnel cordoned off the entire island to capture the pirates," he said, adding that the gang of robbers had also tried to flee the island.
"They're cordoning off the entire island! Flee fer yer lives!"
When they tried to capture the robbers about 5am the gang members opened fire on the lawmen, forcing them to retaliate, he claimed.
"You may fire when ready, Sgt. Shafiq!"
The robberswere compelled to take shelter in a nearby forest off the shore.
"Shelter! We gotta have shelter!"
"Row for that nearby forest!"
"Rrrraaaarrrr!"
"Not that one! The other one!"

While the robbers were trying to leave the island by boats and trawlers, they again fought with the law enforcers at 10:30am.
Open fire again, men!"
Ah, the obligatory 5-hour break for tea and the licking of wounds.
An unidentified robber was struck down in his prime during the shootout.
"Aaaaiiieee! I am undone!"
The RAB official said the cohorts of the dear departed managed to flee the scene.
... as though they had never been...
and the law enforcers identified the body of the dear departed as Shahadat Hossain Jasu with the help of locals.
"Yep. That's him. I'd recognize that thumb anywhere!"
RAB recovered a revolver, two single-barrel guns and huge ammunition from the spot.
"Wowzers! Look at the size of that ammunition!"
"How did they fit it all on that spot?"

Local sources claimed that RAB men picked up Jasu along with three of his cohorts from the island on March 31 night. Four robbers were killed during the shootout with RAB men at Urir Char on Wednesday and three bodies recovered from the Bay were of the robbers, they alleged.
You're saying the shootout wasn't quite that dramatic?
Lt Col Tareq Sayeed, commanding officer of RAB 11, refuted the allegations. Jasu was involved in robbery at sea, killing, abduction and other crimes at Urir Char, Hatiya and Sandwip in Noakhali and Chittagong, police sources said.
"So there. And keep yer nose clean!"

10 Insurgents Killed in Logar
[Tolo News] At least ten Taliban turbans were killed in two separate incidents in eastern Pashtun-infested Logar province on Wednesday.

The Media Office of the Afghan Public Protection Force (APPF) released a statement on Thursday announcing that hard boyz had launched an attack in the Charkh district of Pashtun-infested Logar on Wednesday, and four were killed after a fourteen-hour clash with APPF troops.

Another six other turbans were killed in the Sulaiman Khil area of the province, when a jacket wallah accidentally detonated his explosives prematurely.

Ahead of the upcoming presidential and provincial council elections, turbans have stepped-up violence around the country in an attempt to derail preparations and scare voters away from the polls.

Toy bomb kills boy, injures four children in Nowshera
[DAWN] A 10-year-old boy was killed and four others were maimed when an explosive apparently hidden inside a toy they were playing with detonated in Khyber-Pakhtunkhwa
... formerly NWFP, still Terrorism Central...
's Nowshera town on Thursday, police said.

The incident took place in Khaki, a suburb of Nowshera, where many Afghan refugees are settled.

"Up to six children were playing with a toy that they had found from the garbage they collected from nearby areas when it went kaboom!, killing the boy and wounding four other children," senior local police official Khurram Rasheed told AFP.

Another local police official, Saeedullah confirmed the incident, and said the boy who was killed in the blast was Afghan.

Dozens of children, mostly in the insurgency-hit northwestern Pakistain, have bit the dust in the past when playing with "toys" that turned out to be bombs.

Iraq
Iraq forces kill dozens of militants near Baghdad: ministry
[DAWN] Iraqi security forces killed more than 40 hard boyz on Thursday in festivities in a town southwest of Storied Baghdad, the interior ministry said in a statement.

The firefight in the town of Yusifiyah also left one army officer dead, the statement said, adding that two heavy machineguns, 15 rifles and five grenade launchers were seized, along with other equipment.

"Iraqi security forces confronted a failed attempt

jihadist group.

"The security forces ... killed more than 40 terrorist attackers, and the attack resulted in the death of one of our officers when he was confronting these criminal gangs."

The festivities in Yusifiyah come after days of fighting in the Zoba and Zaidan areas west of Storied Baghdad, spurring concerns that hard boyz who have for months controlled the town of Fallujah could be looking to open a new front to encroach on the capital.

Israel-Palestine-Jordan
'Every counter-terrorism raid you've heard about includes us'
Hidden from view in camouflaged lookout positions, soldiers from the Nitzan Combat Intelligence Collection Battalion keep a close eye on terrorist suspects and transmit live data from a range of sensors to military commanders planning the next counter-terrorism raid.

Should peace talks between Israel and the Palestinian Authority fail and result in an elevated level of violence, the battalion's members and their ghost-like presence throughout the West Bank will direct the army to the location of terrorist suspects. That is what the battalion, under the IDF Central Command, has been doing until now, and its members say they are ready to deal with any future threats.

"We've been involved in every incident that made the news involving an operation in Judea and Samaria. We identify the enemy, and provide data to other forces. Our mission includes monitoring suspects trying to escape, or those who attempt to fire on the army," said Maj. Nadav Abargil, a company commander in the battalion.

Israel Air Force strikes targets in Gaza after rocket fire
[JP] Israel Air Force jets struck five terror targets in the Gaza Strip overnight Thursday, the IDF confirmed.

Israel Radio cited Palestinian sources as saying the IAF had hit various terror sites in northern and central Gaza, including two outposts belonging to Hamas's military wing.

On Thursday night, Palestinian terrorists in the coastal enclave fired four rockets toward southern Israel, activating the Code Red alert in Sderot and surrounding communities.

Israeli media reported that the projectiles had failed to reach their targets, landing in open territory near the border with Gaza.

No injuries or damage were reported on the Israeli side.

The IAF strike came after weeks of relative quite following a large-scale rocket attack on the South by Islamic Jihad terrorists in March. The Air Force struck nearly 30 Gaza targets in response to the attack.

Fighting Rages in Syria's Latakia
[An Nahar] Battles raged Thursday over key flashpoints in Syria's Latakia province, a monitor said, nearly two weeks into a rebel offensive against the heartland of Hereditary President-for-Life Bashir Pencilneck al-Assad
Terror of Aleppo ...
's clan and Alawite sect.

Fighting was especially fierce over a strategic hilltop known as Observatory 45, overrun by rebels last week, said the Syrian Observatory for Human Rights.

"Since last night, the fighting has been focused on Observatory 45. The army advances and takes over, then the rebels advance and push them back out," said its director Rami Abdel Rahman.

Supporting the army and militia on the ground, the air force launched several strikes targeting the hill, the Britannia-based monitor said.

Regime warplanes also struck rebel-held areas in the nearby Jabal Akrad area, a hill district under krazed killer control for many months.

Rebels and their jihadist ally Al-Nusra Front launched a major surprise offensive on Latakia nearly two weeks ago, and have since seized several positions and villages including the Kasab area, home to a border crossing into Turkey.

Hundreds of fighters on both sides have been killed in the battles for Latakia, including 20 rebels killed in the past day alone, said the Observatory.

Just over a week into the fighting, opposition chief Ahmad Jarba visited several rebel areas of Latakia, expressing support for the opposition fighters there and pledging funding.

But on Thursday, rebel chief for the area Mustafa Hashim accused the opposition National Coalition of failing to honor its promises.

"We hear from the radio and television channels that the president of the National Coalition visited the coast (Latakia) to have his picture taken and to divide the revolutionaries' ranks," said Hashim in a statement posted on YouTube.

"They (the Coalition) say they are giving military support to the revolutionaries but this is not true to this day," he added.

Elsewhere, four mortar rounds hit the Dukhaniyeh area near Damascus, killing six children and wounding five other people, said state news agency SANA.

Seven others were maimed in central Damascus, in three mortar attacks, one of which struck near the landmark Umayyad Square, SANA said.

On Monday evening, the army Airborne Brigade seized a booby-trapped car in Wadi Hmayyed.

State Security Foils Rocket Attack on al-Nabi Othman
[An Nahar] State Security agents on Thursday thwarted an attempt to fire rockets at the northern Bekaa town of al-Nabi Othman, in the first such achievement by security forces in that region.

"State Security seized four rockets that were set to be fired from Arsal's outskirts towards al-Nabi Othman," LBCI television reported.

"Boxes of explosives" were found next to the rockets, it added.

The aforementioned town had come under several rocket attacks in recent months. Several people were killed or maimed by the falling rockets.

Al-Nabi Othman was also rocked by a suicide car blast that left two Hizbullah

Syrian Killed, Two Wounded by Army for Failing to Halt at Arsal Checkpoint
[An Nahar] A Syrian was killed and two others were maimed on Thursday by the army in the Bekaa region of Arsal, said the Army Command in a statement.

It said that the army was forced to open fire at the Syrians, who were riding a cycle of violence, after they fled from an army checkpoint in the Wadi Hmayyed area.

Investigations in the incident are underway.

The National News Agency had earlier reported that the three Syrians were armed members of al-Nusra Front, adding that they fell victim to an army ambush.

The victim was identified as Ziad Issa and the injured as Iyyad Samra and Ibrahim Hsayyan, reported Voice of Leb radio (93.3).

Al-Jadeed television meanwhile reported that the incident took place after the Syrians attempted to cross the border sand barrier in the area.

Arsal lies 12 kilometers from the border with Syria and has been used as a conduit for weapons and rebels to enter Syria, while also serving as a refuge for people fleeing the conflict.

Army Raids Northern Neighborhoods in Search of Fugitives, Arrests Omar Bakri Associate
[An Nahar] The army on Thursday raided several neighborhoods in the northern city of Tripoli
...a confusing city, one end of which is located in Lebanon and the other end of which is the capital of Libya. Its chief distinction is being mentioned in the Marine Hymn...
in search of runaways, as part of the security plan that troops started implementing earlier this week to end the state unrest and instability in the North.

The Internal Security Forces Intelligence Bureau also carried out raids in the northern Akkar town of Halba, and succeeded in arresting Sheikh Musheer Khodr, who is linked to radical holy man Omar Bakri, radio Voice of Leb (93.3) said.

Media reports said that Bakri, however, was able to escape the raids.

"Checkpoints have been erected in the Tripoli neighborhood of Abi Samra and troops raided several locations in the region," VDL mentioned.

It noted that army forces raided al-Bazar street in the city as they were looking for runaway Talal Issa.

"The army also raided Hussam al-Sabbagh's farm in Abi Samra," the same source added, describing him as a "very important runaway."

Troops, however, did not find him, VDL said.

Al-Jadeed television reported that Abdullah Yahya Mahmoud al-Hussein, who is nicknamed Abi Bakr al-Ansari, was also incarcerated

, who had left Leb along with his father, Ali Eid.

On Wednesday, the military institution announced arresting 33 people, including 14 Syrians, in Tripoli.

Troops also seized 15 cycle of violences, 10 unlawful cars, in addition to weapons and ammunition.

Separately on Thursday, one person was killed in an individual dispute that erupted in the Tripoli neighborhood of Bab al-Tabbaneh.

"Ahmed Mohammed Abdullah, nicknamed Ahmed al-Aswad, died of his wounds in the Islamic Hospital after he was critically injured in the dispute," the state-run National News Agency said.

VDL (93.3) had said that the Commando Regiment was carrying out raids in Tripoli's vegetable market following the dispute.

Ex-Prime Minister Saad Hariri

He was born in Riyadh to an Iraqi mother and graduated from Georgetown University. He managed his father's business interests in Riyadh until his father's assassination. When his father died he inherited a fortune of some $4.1 billion, which won't do him much good if Hizbullah has him bumped off, too.
lauded the Tripoli security plan on Thursday, saying it proved that "the state can extend its authority across all Lebanese regions when it determines to do so."

"We particularly salute the efforts exerted by the interior and the justice ministers, as well as all Tripoli's politicians, and civil activists," Hariri said in a released statement.

He also praised "the sacrifices of the army and security forces to safeguard the city and protect its people."

Prime Minister Tammam Salam telephoned the ministers of telecommunications, public works, energy, health and social affairs on Thursday afternoon, urging them to respond to the demands and needs of Tripoli regions affected in the fighting.

Telecommunications Minister Butros Harb ordered the technical teams in the ministry and in OGERO to inspect the damages sustained by the phone network in Tripoli due to the festivities.
